After years struggling as a single mum, you finally scrape together

0:00:020:00:05

the cash to achieve the new life you've been dreaming of for decades.

0:00:050:00:10

Now, all you have to do is persuade your children to move

0:00:100:00:14

to the other side of the world.

0:00:140:00:15

For 20 years, Paula Jones has been craving a new life in Australia.

0:00:170:00:22

It means the world to me.

0:00:220:00:23

I want the best for my children.

0:00:230:00:25

But daughter's Kacey's far from sold.

0:00:250:00:28

I feel like I'm going to have to leave everything behind

0:00:290:00:32

to make everybody else happy.

0:00:320:00:34

Whilst a trial week down under is a massive hit...

0:00:340:00:37

This is our dream house.

0:00:370:00:39

-Yeah.

-This is the dream house.

0:00:390:00:40

I'd want to come here as soon as possible. It's just great.

0:00:400:00:44

It's just brilliant, I don't want to go home.

0:00:440:00:46

..will Kacey missing loved ones ultimately derail the dream?

0:00:460:00:50

BOTH: Hi!

0:00:500:00:52

My dad and my best friend...

0:00:520:00:53

I don't think I could live properly without them.

0:00:530:00:56

For the last two decades, Australia's been the number one destination

0:01:190:01:23

for British citizens moving abroad.

0:01:230:01:26

Every day, around 23 families leave the UK to start

0:01:260:01:30

a new life in the country.

0:01:300:01:31

Boasting an average temperature 13 degrees higher than Britain's,

0:01:330:01:37

it's easy to understand why so many

0:01:370:01:39

are lured to a land with more than 10,000 beaches.

0:01:390:01:43

Since she was a teenager,

0:01:480:01:50

mum Paula Jones has dreamt of a life in the Australian sunshine.

0:01:500:01:55

Now, over 20 years later, it could finally be within reach.

0:01:550:02:00

Over the next week, Paula and her two children

0:02:000:02:03

will discover everything the country could offer them

0:02:030:02:06

before deciding whether to take the plunge

0:02:060:02:09

and move to the other side of the world or stay put in the UK.

0:02:090:02:13

Flying via Singapore,

0:02:150:02:17

it takes a family over 24 hours to get from the UK to Australia.

0:02:170:02:21

Everyone's on fine form though when they finally touch down in Adelaide.

0:02:230:02:28

The flight was good. Enjoyed it.

0:02:280:02:30

I spent most of the time watching movies, eating, drinking,

0:02:300:02:34

bit of shopping. I don't know what anyone complains about really.

0:02:340:02:36

I slept for most of the flight, so I'm not tired.

0:02:360:02:39

Arriving on Australian soil for the first time has been emotional for Paula.

0:02:390:02:44

The minute I landed, I'm flying.

0:02:450:02:48

So pleased to be here.

0:02:480:02:50

She's like, "Oh, my goodness! I'm finally in Australia!"

0:02:500:02:52

And we just looked at her like, "What?"

0:02:520:02:55

And she's already worried the country won't live up to the image

0:02:560:02:59

she's created in two decades of dreaming.

0:02:590:03:03

I'm nervous in case I don't like it, I'm nervous in case

0:03:030:03:05

my dream gets shattered and it's not what I think it's going to be.

0:03:050:03:08

Paula's in no doubt as to what's at stake over the next week.

0:03:080:03:12

This is it, I've waited years for this week to come.

0:03:120:03:15

It's make or break.

0:03:150:03:17

Ahead of the Jones' lies seven days to discover

0:03:170:03:19

if they can achieve the life Paula desires.

0:03:190:03:23

I think it's quite warm, actually.

0:03:230:03:25

Told you we were hardened Brits.

0:03:250:03:26

Meet the Jones family from Prestatyn in North Wales.

0:03:320:03:36

They're mum Paula, 18-year-old Luke and 13-year-old Kacey.

0:03:360:03:40

Life's been far from plain sailing for Paula.

0:03:450:03:48

Leaving home at the age of just 15,

0:03:480:03:51

she met her future husband one year later and had Luke when she was 18.

0:03:510:03:56

But it's been the last decade that's proved particularly hard.

0:03:560:03:59

I ran my own dry-cleaning business and then the recession hit

0:03:590:04:03

and, well, I lost the business and my marriage broke down

0:04:030:04:09

and we divorced and Luke was eight and Kacey was nearly three.

0:04:090:04:14

I think life for mum has been pretty tough, to be honest.

0:04:140:04:17

Ooh, I'll buy that!

0:04:200:04:22

Ever since becoming a single parent,

0:04:220:04:24

making ends meet has been a struggle.

0:04:240:04:26

Even when I was a kid there was never really any money.

0:04:260:04:29

I didn't have all the things I wanted to have.

0:04:290:04:31

We've had some difficult times, but we stick together as a family

0:04:310:04:34

and we get on, don't we?

0:04:340:04:36

We just get on with it.

0:04:360:04:37

Financially, the family situation has left them no alternative

0:04:390:04:42

but to rely on the state for support.

0:04:420:04:45

I've had no choice but to claim benefits,

0:04:450:04:47

housing benefit, council tax benefit and tax credits,

0:04:490:04:53

in order to survive as a single parent.

0:04:530:04:55

Even though I have always worked.

0:04:550:04:57

Depending on government assistance is something Paula's always been

0:04:580:05:01

determined to escape.

0:05:010:05:03

It made me feel very worthless

0:05:040:05:06

and not a full person within society really, from the day I started

0:05:060:05:11

to claim benefits, I tried to find a way out of that trap.

0:05:110:05:14

Four years ago,

0:05:150:05:17

she took decisive action to turn her family's life around and juggled

0:05:170:05:21

looking after Kacey and Luke with studying to become a radiographer.

0:05:210:05:25

I did an access course, I went to university,

0:05:250:05:28

I've worked hard, I've got my degree, I've got a good job.

0:05:280:05:32

Yeah, she's found it tough, but I'm quite proud of her really.

0:05:320:05:34

Paula's driven herself hard, but had only limited success.

0:05:340:05:38

Even now, I still have to rely on tax credits.

0:05:380:05:42

Desperate to steer out of the benefits trap

0:05:420:05:44

and provide a better future for her family,

0:05:440:05:47

Paula's now considering a move to the other side of the world.

0:05:470:05:50

It's not the first time emigrating has been on the cards.

0:05:500:05:54

When I was 16 I used to write to my uncle

0:05:540:05:57

who lived in New Zealand at the time.

0:05:570:05:58

We discussed then for me to go over to New Zealand

0:05:580:06:01

and hopefully start a new life then.

0:06:010:06:03

It didn't work out.

0:06:030:06:05

Determined to make it down under one day,

0:06:050:06:07

Paula turned her attention to settling in Australia

0:06:070:06:10

and started saving every penny she could scrape together

0:06:100:06:13

to fund a move.

0:06:130:06:14

Years later, she's managed to build up a small nest egg.

0:06:140:06:18

But Paula faces a difficult dilemma.

0:06:180:06:21

On the one hand, her new-found career could be the road to

0:06:210:06:24

a new life in Australia for her, Luke and Kacey.

0:06:240:06:27

I think my potential for work in Australia

0:06:270:06:31

and career prospects for the children are better in Australia.

0:06:310:06:34

To not have to rely on the government for any kind of hand-out,

0:06:360:06:39

whether it be tax credits or any kind of benefit,

0:06:390:06:42

would make me feel free and happy.

0:06:420:06:44

But on the other,

0:06:440:06:46

it could at last provide them with a home to call their own in the UK.

0:06:460:06:49

I've managed to save enough money for a deposit on a house.

0:06:490:06:52

It's great have an opportunity to buy a house,

0:06:520:06:54

I've been trying buy a house for ten years.

0:06:540:06:58

Paula's torn as to which option will prove best for her and her children

0:07:010:07:05

in the long run.

0:07:050:07:06

I'm in a complete dilemma as to whether

0:07:060:07:08

I spend what savings I've got on the deposit

0:07:080:07:11

and settle here and stay in the UK, or whether I use the money to apply

0:07:110:07:15

for visas and flights to go over to Australia and start a new life out there.

0:07:150:07:20

While Luke doesn't feel much love for life in North Wales

0:07:200:07:23

and is ready for a change...

0:07:230:07:25

I don't like living around here a lot.

0:07:250:07:27

It's very dull and boring. Nothing ever to do.

0:07:270:07:30

I think he starting to realise that it's going to be very

0:07:300:07:32

difficult for him to get the job that he wants in the UK.

0:07:320:07:35

..persuading Kacey to uproot to Australia will be a much tougher battle.

0:07:370:07:42

I've only just made like, the best bunch of friends ever.

0:07:420:07:46

It's so scary...

0:07:470:07:48

I feel like I'm going to have to leave everything behind

0:07:480:07:51

to make everybody else happy.

0:07:510:07:53

Kacey's very reluctant to go

0:07:530:07:55

and she's very reluctant to leave her family and her friends.

0:07:550:07:58

Kacey's very close to her dad.

0:07:580:08:00

She sees her dad on a regular basis.

0:08:000:08:03

Paula feels she must act now if she's ever to stand

0:08:030:08:05

a chance of achieving her dream of living in Australia.

0:08:050:08:09

I think the time's right now, because I know deep down that

0:08:090:08:12

if I don't do it now, I'll probably never go.

0:08:120:08:15

But in the back of her mind,

0:08:150:08:17

she knows choosing a fresh start in the country could mean closing

0:08:170:08:20

the door on financial security in the UK for good.

0:08:200:08:24

Moving to Australia would be a huge gamble for me now.

0:08:240:08:27

Simply because if I spend all the money that I've got for

0:08:270:08:30

a deposit on going to Australia, I haven't got anything to come back to.

0:08:300:08:34

I'll be back at square one, we'll be back to ten years ago.

0:08:340:08:37

And she's concerned that the reality of life down under

0:08:370:08:40

might not square up to her dreams.

0:08:400:08:43

Looking at Australia in pictures and magazines

0:08:430:08:46

and the internet isn't the same as being there.

0:08:460:08:50

I'm a little bit worried that it might not

0:08:500:08:52

actually be what I'm expecting.

0:08:520:08:54

The next week will decide once and for all where Paula

0:08:540:08:57

and her family will call home.

0:08:570:08:59

This is it for us, as a family.

0:08:590:09:02

It means the world to me.

0:09:020:09:04

I just want... I want the best for my children.

0:09:040:09:07

The family are spending their trial week visiting Adelaide.

0:09:140:09:17

The driest Australian state capital,

0:09:170:09:19

almost one in 12 of its inhabitants hail from the UK.

0:09:190:09:22

Home for the week is a three-bedroom house at just a ten-minute walk

0:09:240:09:27

from the white sands of Henley Beach.

0:09:270:09:29

About 20 minutes west of the city.

0:09:290:09:31

Even before they're out of the car,

0:09:330:09:35

the family are over the moon with their temporary base.

0:09:350:09:38

It looks like one of those houses you buy if you've

0:09:380:09:40

just won the lottery.

0:09:400:09:42

Wow, I really like it.

0:09:430:09:45

Inside, everyone's soon claiming the master bedroom as their own.

0:09:450:09:49

-This is my room.

-"This is my room!"

0:09:490:09:52

-Now this can be my room.

-No, it's not.

0:09:520:09:55

I've got my own walk-in wardrobe... Two walk-in wardrobes!

0:09:550:09:58

This is definitely my room, yes, definitely the master bedroom.

0:09:580:10:01

-It's going to be mine, I love it.

-It's mine.

0:10:010:10:03

-THEY LAUGH

-That's it.

0:10:030:10:05

Paula's bowled over by the open plan kitchen-diner and living room.

0:10:050:10:10

I really like the open space. I can see myself cooking on here.

0:10:100:10:15

I can see you cooking on there too.

0:10:150:10:17

Cheeky!

0:10:170:10:18

The garden goes down well too.

0:10:200:10:23

-It's nice, isn't it?

-Nice barbecue.

0:10:230:10:25

Compared to the garden at home, this is lovely, isn't it? It's big.

0:10:250:10:28

It's actually got grass as opposed to mud.

0:10:280:10:31

Paula's settled in quickly.

0:10:310:10:33

So far, we really like it. Feel at home.

0:10:330:10:36

-Feel like I should have always been here.

-It is nice. I like it.

0:10:360:10:39

And Luke's first impressions of Australia are pretty positive.

0:10:390:10:44

It reminds me of like, a bigger, less serious Britain.

0:10:440:10:49

Has all the qualities, but it's just... It's just like that.

0:10:490:10:51

But the gamble she could be taking with her life savings

0:10:530:10:56

is already playing on Paula's mind.

0:10:560:10:59

I haven't got enough money to move out here AND buy a house in the UK.

0:10:590:11:03

It's one or the other.

0:11:030:11:05

And if I do move out here, I'm going to be sacrificing the deposit I've

0:11:050:11:08

got on the house for the UK and I'll have to live

0:11:080:11:11

in rented accommodation here.

0:11:110:11:13

And Kacey's thinking of who she's leaving behind in the UK.

0:11:130:11:18

I worry to move to Australia because of my friends

0:11:180:11:22

and my dad and his family.

0:11:220:11:24

Because my dad loves seeing me all the time.

0:11:240:11:29

He really would miss me so, so much.

0:11:290:11:31

Paula's under no illusion as to how critical the week ahead is.

0:11:320:11:36

By the end of this week, the dream will come to a conclusion.

0:11:360:11:40

We'll either be moving to Australia or we won't.

0:11:400:11:43

It's make or break.

0:11:430:11:44

Back in the UK, the Jones family live in a three-bedroom rented house

0:11:540:11:57

in the North Wales seaside town of Prestatyn.

0:11:570:12:01

Whilst Paula enjoys living there for half the year...

0:12:010:12:04

I really do like Prestatyn. I like living very close to the beach.

0:12:040:12:08

In the summer it's fantastic.

0:12:080:12:10

..the other six months leave her cold.

0:12:100:12:12

In the winter, it's my worst nightmare.

0:12:120:12:14

The family has struggled to find a permanent home.

0:12:160:12:19

-I think they've lived in...

-How many have we lived in? 15 houses.

-No.

0:12:190:12:23

Yeah, me and Luke have.

0:12:230:12:24

-If you include your dad's houses...

-He's only lived in like, two.

0:12:240:12:28

From our point of view, from what we lived in,

0:12:280:12:30

I think we've lived in eight different houses.

0:12:300:12:33

For a home down under, there's one thing on Luke and Kacey's wish list.

0:12:330:12:37

I'd want a house that's definitely got a swimming pool.

0:12:380:12:41

I'd love that.

0:12:410:12:43

I think it's great, but I think they're unrealistic.

0:12:430:12:46

I'd be quite happy with just a modern three-bedroom house.

0:12:460:12:49

To find out what kind of house the Jones' could have in Australia,

0:12:550:12:58

today we'll show them three properties.

0:12:580:13:00

Two on budget, and a third which could be their dream home.

0:13:000:13:05

Only after they've seen each one

0:13:050:13:07

will they find out how much they'd cost to rent.

0:13:070:13:10

The family have a monthly rental budget of £1,000.

0:13:100:13:13

First the family head to Brompton,

0:13:140:13:16

a suburb ten minutes north of Adelaide city centre.

0:13:160:13:19

So, will this three-bedroom townhouse be to the family's taste?

0:13:190:13:24

Outside, first impressions are good.

0:13:240:13:26

-Very...

-I like it.

-..posh.

0:13:280:13:30

And inside, the house continues to work its charm.

0:13:300:13:34

Oh, this is nice.

0:13:340:13:35

Ooh, look at the shiny floors!

0:13:350:13:37

Oh, my goodness!

0:13:380:13:40

The spacious kitchen has one appealing feature.

0:13:400:13:43

I like it. I just like the fact it's got a dishwasher.

0:13:430:13:45

That's definitely your job, Luke.

0:13:450:13:47

All right.

0:13:470:13:49

And Paula takes the opportunity to test the water with Kacey.

0:13:490:13:53

Would you move from the UK for this house?

0:13:530:13:55

-Maybe.

-Yeah.

0:13:550:13:57

Not bad, considering they're only just in the door.

0:13:570:14:00

Upstairs, Paula's already assigning rooms.

0:14:010:14:04

This is a Luke room.

0:14:040:14:05

No, it's probably the smallest room. So that's not happening, is it?

0:14:050:14:08

PAULA LAUGHS

0:14:080:14:10

Luke's got his eye on the master bedroom.

0:14:100:14:12

See, this could be my room. It's big.

0:14:120:14:14

It's massive!

0:14:140:14:15

This bed's definitely made for the queen and that'll be me.

0:14:160:14:20

But some hidden features mean Kacey's laying claim too.

0:14:200:14:23

Oh, my God!

0:14:230:14:26

It's a wardrobe. And an en-suite.

0:14:260:14:29

-Oh, this is mine. I'm having this!

-That's very nice.

0:14:290:14:32

Kacey seems swayed.

0:14:320:14:34

I'd have this. I've come to Australia for this, for this big room.

0:14:340:14:37

If I thought for a minute that this would actually make you come

0:14:370:14:40

to Australia, I'd let you have this room.

0:14:400:14:43

Oh, that's quite interesting, really.

0:14:430:14:45

Outside lies the one thing Kacey and Luke wanted.

0:14:450:14:48

Very nice.

0:14:480:14:50

-Look at the pool!

-Oh, my goodness.

0:14:500:14:52

It's got a pool.

0:14:520:14:53

We'd have some fantastic times out here.

0:14:530:14:55

I think it's wonderful, I love it.

0:14:550:14:57

I could see myself coming here every morning, waking up,

0:14:570:15:00

having a nice swim before I go to work. Really nice.

0:15:000:15:03

This house has been a big hit with the whole family,

0:15:040:15:08

but could they afford it with their monthly rental budget of £1,000?

0:15:080:15:12

I think this is going to be over budget.

0:15:120:15:16

You couldn't get anything like this in the UK, anyway.

0:15:160:15:20

I reckon it'll cost about £915.

0:15:200:15:22

I reckon £1,050.

0:15:220:15:25

-I think maybe a little bit more.

-Maybe even £1,100.

0:15:260:15:29

-Do you want to have a look?

-Yeah, you ready?

-Yeah, I'm ready.

0:15:290:15:32

Oh, my goodness. Seriously?

0:15:340:15:38

That's just £40 over budget.

0:15:380:15:41

Now you've seen how much it's going to cost,

0:15:410:15:43

would you move from the UK, for this house?

0:15:430:15:47

Maybe.

0:15:470:15:49

I'd still miss my dad and my friends.

0:15:490:15:51

And the rest of the family.

0:15:510:15:53

I think it's good, for what it is.

0:15:530:15:57

This means that we can actually afford to come to Australia

0:15:570:16:00

-and live here...

-..in a nice house.

0:16:000:16:02

..in a really nice house.

0:16:020:16:03

It looks like Paula's still got work on her hands convincing Kacey.

0:16:030:16:08

Will house number two do the job?

0:16:080:16:10

The Jones' head ten miles northwest of the city, to Largs bay.

0:16:140:16:19

It's an ideal suburb for families, with schools, cafes and shops nearby.

0:16:190:16:23

And a beach just a five minute stroll away.

0:16:230:16:28

-Oh, I like it, the trees.

-Very nice.

-Nice.

0:16:280:16:32

The property's spacious interiors are an instant hit.

0:16:320:16:36

-Oh, lovely.

-This is quite nice.

-Big.

-It's giant.

0:16:360:16:40

But, unlike the last house, this isn't a shiny new-build.

0:16:400:16:44

The property's more dated.

0:16:440:16:46

-I don't think it is.

-It is,

0:16:460:16:47

this is a much older property than the ones that we've seen.

0:16:470:16:50

Yeah, it looks older, it has an older feel to it.

0:16:500:16:52

Plus, the layout's a potential fly in the ointment for Paula.

0:16:520:16:56

I'm not overkeen on the master bedroom

0:16:560:16:58

being right at the front of the house.

0:16:580:17:00

-Mm.

-Cos I'm not keen on sleeping right in front of the house.

0:17:000:17:04

While the living room decor pleases Kacey and Paula...

0:17:040:17:08

-I like the fireplace, it's lovely.

-It's gorgeous.

0:17:080:17:11

..Luke spots something's amiss.

0:17:110:17:13

Where's the TV?

0:17:130:17:15

-I don't know.

-They don't have a TV.

0:17:150:17:19

I think that we could replace the mirror that's on the mantelpiece

0:17:190:17:21

with a TV. It would make more sense.

0:17:210:17:25

The open-plan kitchen-dining area gets the thumbs up.

0:17:250:17:28

-Aw!

-I like this.

0:17:280:17:30

-Very big, open-plan.

-Kitchen-diner, yeah, I like it, it's nice.

0:17:300:17:35

-Yeah, it's got a little island in the middle, hasn't it?

-Yeah.

0:17:350:17:38

-You're into these islands, aren't you?

-Yeah, I really do like these.

0:17:380:17:41

But Paula and Luke can't help but compare it to the first property.

0:17:410:17:45

It's not as good as the one in the last house, I don't think.

0:17:450:17:48

And I agree with Luke, I actually prefer the one in the last house.

0:17:480:17:53

Despite boasting a large garden...

0:17:530:17:56

-This is massive.

-Oh, my goodness!

0:17:560:17:59

-It's nice.

-This is gorgeous.

-It even has a tree that you could climb.

0:18:000:18:05

..this house just isn't cutting the mustard.

0:18:050:18:08

I like the garden, but the house just isn't modern enough for me.

0:18:080:18:12

I don't like this sort of house.

0:18:120:18:14

It's nice, but I still don't think it's for us.

0:18:140:18:18

So this property isn't one the family would want to call home.

0:18:180:18:21

But could they afford it, with their £1,000 a month budget?

0:18:210:18:25

-I think it's over budget.

-I think it's over budget, too.

0:18:250:18:28

-But it has got four bedrooms.

-I reckon it's going to be about...

0:18:280:18:32

Hm... £1,200.

0:18:320:18:34

I reckon £1,250.

0:18:340:18:37

I'm going to go with Luke, I think that it's about £1,200.

0:18:390:18:44

-So shall we have a look, see how much it is?

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

0:18:440:18:48

-Whoa!

-Oh.

0:18:480:18:50

That's £40 under budget.

0:18:500:18:52

So do you think this price would sway it?

0:18:530:18:56

Not really, I still don't like the house that much.

0:18:560:18:59

I think, for the price, it's quite good,

0:18:590:19:01

but I still wouldn't want to live here.

0:19:010:19:03

-We'll have to have a think about it, won't we?

-Yeah.

0:19:030:19:06

For their final viewing, we've found what we think could be

0:19:120:19:16

the family's dream home, in the newly created suburb of St Clair.

0:19:160:19:19

While the area's still under construction,

0:19:190:19:22

it benefits from a recreation centre,

0:19:220:19:24

offering sports and leisure activities,

0:19:240:19:26

and is only ten minutes' drive from the nearest beach.

0:19:260:19:29

Once more, the exteriors impress.

0:19:320:19:35

-This is huge.

-This is great.

-This is absolutely beautiful.

0:19:350:19:38

-Do you like it?

-Yeah.

0:19:380:19:40

-Yeah.

-Yeah, brand-new house,

0:19:400:19:43

brand-new area, brand-new start.

0:19:430:19:46

But what about inside?

0:19:470:19:49

-Oh, wow!

-This is massive.

0:19:490:19:51

-Oh, my God.

-Oh, my goodness!

-This is huge.

0:19:510:19:54

Luke's worried about how much this shiny, new house would cost.

0:19:540:19:57

Never going to be able to afford something like this.

0:19:570:20:00

Oh, my goodness.

0:20:000:20:02

But Kacey's already sold.

0:20:020:20:04

-This is our dream house.

-Yeah, this is the dream house.

0:20:040:20:07

The first of three living spaces has everyone enchanted.

0:20:070:20:11

-This is, like, amazing.

-Look at it.

0:20:110:20:13

-Aw! Oh, my goodness. Crazy!

-This is mad.

0:20:130:20:18

This is the dream house.

0:20:180:20:20

This is the house that I'd go anywhere in the world for.

0:20:200:20:24

The open-plan kitchen-dining and living room

0:20:240:20:27

doesn't disappoint either.

0:20:270:20:29

This is well good.

0:20:290:20:31

-Oh, my...

-It goes all the way round.

0:20:310:20:33

-That's really nice.

-Oh, I love it.

0:20:330:20:36

It is perfect for me.

0:20:360:20:38

Could definitely live in this house, definitely.

0:20:380:20:41

I'd do anything to live in a house like this.

0:20:410:20:43

-Would you clean the floors?

-Yeah.

-Would you?

0:20:430:20:46

-I'd clean the whole house.

-Wow.

0:20:460:20:48

My word, that's quite an endorsement, Luke.

0:20:480:20:52

Upstairs lie four bedrooms and a third living area.

0:20:520:20:56

Oh, my God.

0:20:560:20:57

-A sitting area upstairs.

-Yeah.

-How cool.

0:20:570:21:00

CASEY GASPS While the bedrooms impress...

0:21:000:21:02

Nice room.

0:21:020:21:05

I like it.

0:21:050:21:07

..it's the master suite, with French doors leading onto a balcony,

0:21:070:21:10

that's the real winner.

0:21:100:21:12

-Oh, my God.

-Oh, my...

-This is gorgeous.

0:21:120:21:16

Oh, my... This is my dream room!

0:21:160:21:18

Wow, look at this.

0:21:200:21:21

-Oh, my goodness.

-Look, there's a lake.

0:21:220:21:25

-This is a really nice ensuite.

-Wow.

0:21:270:21:29

It's a bubbly bath!

0:21:290:21:32

And Paula can't help but try out the spa bath for size.

0:21:320:21:36

Oh, yeah! Could I have some candles, please?

0:21:360:21:38

Let's just go.

0:21:380:21:40

Are you just leaving me? Don't leave me, come back!

0:21:400:21:43

A spacious garden, with pool, is the icing on the cake.

0:21:430:21:46

It's got a pool, barbecue.

0:21:460:21:49

It's got everything.

0:21:490:21:52

This is so good.

0:21:520:21:54

Think of the parties we could have here in the summer.

0:21:540:21:56

Oh, my goodness. Barbecues.

0:21:560:21:58

I feel like I'm in a different life, if I lived here.

0:21:580:22:01

-Do you?

-This is the Hollywood dream.

-Yeah.

0:22:010:22:05

-That's what I feel like.

-Prince of Bel Air, Luke?

-Yeah.

0:22:050:22:09

So is this a house only suited to Hollywood stars?

0:22:090:22:12

Or could it be somewhere the Jones' could afford with their

0:22:120:22:15

£1,000 a month rental budget?

0:22:150:22:17

I don't think we're ever going to be able to afford

0:22:190:22:21

a house this expensive. I reckon it's going to be £1,500 a month.

0:22:210:22:25

About £1,400.

0:22:250:22:27

And you?

0:22:270:22:30

I'm going to go with you, Mum, £1,500.

0:22:300:22:33

OK, have a look, go on, then.

0:22:330:22:35

KACEY GASPS

0:22:410:22:43

-Oh, my God, what?

-That's not that bad at all, is it?

0:22:430:22:46

-£1,200.

-You're kidding me?

0:22:460:22:48

That's £290 over budget.

0:22:480:22:51

-That's well good.

-That is amazing.

0:22:510:22:53

-It's much cheaper than I thought it was going to be.

-Yeah.

0:22:530:22:56

-OK.

-It's great.

0:22:560:22:58

Let's see how I get on for jobs.

0:22:580:23:01

It's been an overwhelmingly positive day for the Jones',

0:23:010:23:04

checking out properties in the Adelaide suburbs.

0:23:040:23:07

Property 1 hit the spot,

0:23:070:23:09

with it's fought-over master bedroom and inviting pool area.

0:23:090:23:13

Despite its size, property 2 disappointed,

0:23:130:23:17

with a floor plan that failed to win praise.

0:23:170:23:19

Property 3 was the clear favourite, though,

0:23:200:23:23

with generously sized rooms, numerous living areas and its perfect pool.

0:23:230:23:29

So, when it comes to properties,

0:23:290:23:30

has everything they've seen been enough for everyone

0:23:300:23:34

to choose Australia over the UK?

0:23:340:23:36

-Australia.

-Australia.

-Australia.

0:23:450:23:48

For me, it was an easy decision.

0:23:480:23:49

All the houses are big, they're all spacious.

0:23:490:23:52

In Australia, the houses are definitely better.

0:23:520:23:54

British houses are just tiny.

0:23:540:23:56

And they're more modern,

0:23:560:23:58

instead of having old Victorian houses.

0:23:580:24:01

I reckon we should just drop everything,

0:24:010:24:04

sell everything we've got and come live here.

0:24:040:24:06

-Do you think so?

-Yeah, we'll slowly buy furniture.

0:24:060:24:09

PAULA LAUGHS

0:24:090:24:11

A clean sweep of votes for Australia's just what Paula

0:24:200:24:22

had been hoping for,

0:24:220:24:24

but, if she's to afford her dream home,

0:24:240:24:26

a good job and salary will be essential.

0:24:260:24:29

Back in the UK, Paula's a radiographer, working for the NHS.

0:24:320:24:36

I take X-rays and produce images, so that doctors can use those images.

0:24:360:24:41

OK, Dawn, so is it your right wrist?

0:24:410:24:43

'I love working with the general public and I enjoy what I do

0:24:430:24:47

'and I feel that every day I'm at work, I help people.'

0:24:470:24:50

Down under, she'd be keen to develop her career.

0:24:500:24:53

I will definitely look into being a diagnostic radiographer,

0:24:530:24:56

but I definitely will also be looking for future career prospects

0:24:560:24:59

in Australia.

0:24:590:25:01

Ideally, I want to go on to do a master's degree.

0:25:010:25:04

As the sole earner in the family, she's all too aware,

0:25:040:25:07

a move relies on her job prospects.

0:25:070:25:10

It's very important that I get the right job

0:25:100:25:13

and the right salary in Australia.

0:25:130:25:15

If I don't get the right salary,

0:25:150:25:17

it will kill my dream and I won't be able to go.

0:25:170:25:20

We've arranged for Paula to visit the Royal Adelaide Hospital,

0:25:220:25:25

the largest in the city.

0:25:250:25:28

First up, she meets Dominic, a team leader in a radiology department,

0:25:280:25:33

and wastes no time in asking about the working week.

0:25:330:25:36

So what kind of shift pattern do you work here and how many hours a week?

0:25:360:25:39

-We have 37.5 hour week.

-Very nice.

0:25:390:25:43

We have four shift groups, who rotate across shifts in a pattern.

0:25:430:25:47

So day shifts, afternoons and night shifts and weekends.

0:25:470:25:50

Seven days and then four days off and then seven days again, five days off.

0:25:500:25:54

So, you actually do get quite a chunk of time

0:25:540:25:56

-where you get quite a few days off together?

-Mm-hm.

0:25:560:25:59

-Correct, yeah.

-So, really, it's very good for you...

0:25:590:26:01

It's very flexible.

0:26:010:26:03

..for your lifestyle, really, and your general wellbeing?

0:26:030:26:06

-It is, yeah.

-That sounds good to me.

0:26:060:26:08

Nearing the end of his A-levels in the UK,

0:26:090:26:12

Luke's keen to research options for further education in Adelaide.

0:26:120:26:16

So he's off to Flinders University to find out more.

0:26:160:26:19

He meets prospective student advisor Kym Sara.

0:26:210:26:24

-Hi, I'm Luke.

-Hi, I'm Kym, welcome to Flinders.

0:26:240:26:26

-Let's have a look around.

-OK.

0:26:260:26:29

After a quick campus tour,

0:26:290:26:30

Luke asks if he could qualify for a degree course

0:26:300:26:33

in his favourite subject of psychology.

0:26:330:26:36

Coming from overseas, what would normally happen,

0:26:360:26:39

assuming you'd be a permanent resident,

0:26:390:26:41

we would look at your overseas qualifications.

0:26:410:26:44

They're assessed by the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre, so SATAC.

0:26:440:26:48

And they'd look at what you've done overseas.

0:26:480:26:50

Is it better for me to be an international student or would it be

0:26:500:26:52

better coming over as a permanent resident with my mother?

0:26:520:26:55

Mm-hm. Well, you could do either.

0:26:550:26:57

If you're going to be applying as a permanent resident,

0:26:570:26:59

there's a lot more benefits for you.

0:26:590:27:01

So that's access to be able to get in,

0:27:010:27:03

so entry options that you've got, as well as all the things

0:27:030:27:06

like the fees and how much you're going to be paying for the course.

0:27:060:27:09

Outside, Luke's delighted with what he's discovered.

0:27:090:27:12

I'd probably want to come here as soon as possible, it's just great.

0:27:120:27:15

Hopefully, mum's got the news she needed,

0:27:150:27:17

if she hasn't, then,

0:27:170:27:19

maybe, this isn't for us, but hopefully she has.

0:27:190:27:24

Back at the hospital, Paula meets with operations manager Michael,

0:27:240:27:27

and is eager to learn if her qualifications

0:27:270:27:30

would be transferable to Australia.

0:27:300:27:33

My UK qualification is a Bachelor of Science,

0:27:330:27:35

-so would that be recognised here?

-I would assume that it would be,

0:27:350:27:38

however AHPRA, being the regulatory body for registration,

0:27:380:27:43

would need to recognise that as well.

0:27:430:27:46

OK, good. Sounds great.

0:27:460:27:48

So career progression is really important to me,

0:27:480:27:51

so if I couldn't go into reporting,

0:27:510:27:53

I'd like to go into MRI, maybe ultrasound.

0:27:530:27:56

So how do you see that in the future?

0:27:560:27:58

When we don't have anyone training in those areas

0:27:580:28:00

and we require that resource, we put out an expression of interest,

0:28:000:28:03

to all the staff, so it's fair and equitable.

0:28:030:28:06

We put together a training plan for the department

0:28:060:28:09

and select individuals based on that.

0:28:090:28:12

So, as a recently qualified radiographer,

0:28:120:28:14

what could Paula expect to earn?

0:28:140:28:16

-Around 60,000, 62,000...

-OK.

-..per year.

0:28:160:28:21

If you put shift penalties on top of that,

0:28:210:28:24

there's a high chance that doing

0:28:240:28:25

general radiography you'd be on a shift roster,

0:28:250:28:28

you can probably add an additional 5,000 on top of that,

0:28:280:28:30

-with penalties.

-OK, so about 65,000 a year?

0:28:300:28:33

Yeah, I would say 65,000, comfortably.

0:28:330:28:35

OK. So, after a few years, when I've got some more experience,

0:28:350:28:38

if I wanted to apply for a senior position,

0:28:380:28:41

what's the salary for that?

0:28:410:28:42

You'd be starting at around the 70,000 mark.

0:28:420:28:45

A staring salary of 65,000 is about £33,000.

0:28:460:28:51

A whopping 50% more than Paula currently earns.

0:28:510:28:56

That's £11,000 over what I'm getting paid currently in the UK,

0:28:560:29:00

for the same job, same hours.

0:29:000:29:03

And the shift pattern seems better for lifestyle.

0:29:030:29:05

So, yeah, I'm quite happy.

0:29:050:29:07

Time for Paula to cast her vote.

0:29:070:29:10

Based on the information I found out about work today, my vote goes to...

0:29:100:29:14

Australia.

0:29:210:29:23

As soon as I heard the salary that I could earn

0:29:230:29:26

and the potential salary that I could earn in the future,

0:29:260:29:29

that was definitely the decision maker for me.

0:29:290:29:32

Discovering his potential options appears to have already sold Luke

0:29:340:29:39

on the idea of a new start in Adelaide.

0:29:390:29:41

But Paula's always known Kacey would be the biggest barrier

0:29:410:29:45

to achieving her lifelong dream.

0:29:450:29:48

So, will a day spent experiencing the lifestyle

0:29:480:29:50

the family could enjoy in Australia be enough

0:29:500:29:53

to put the whole family on the same page?

0:29:530:29:56

Being adventure lovers, the Jones' head to Woodhouse Activity Centre,

0:29:590:30:02

in the Adelaide hills.

0:30:020:30:04

Where Simon mentally prepares them for what lies ahead.

0:30:050:30:09

-I hope you don't mind a little bit of an adrenaline rush.

-Oh, my God.

0:30:090:30:13

First up, is a ride on a larger than life swing.

0:30:130:30:17

Oh, this is quite cool

0:30:250:30:28

How many times do we swing?

0:30:280:30:30

THEY SCREAM

0:30:360:30:39

This is well good!

0:30:430:30:45

That was loads of fun, it was brilliant.

0:30:450:30:47

Really enjoyed that.

0:30:470:30:49

Back on terra firma, it's time to tackle the centre's assault course.

0:30:490:30:53

Ready, steady, go!

0:30:540:30:57

Whoa!

0:31:070:31:09

Then, Kacey spots one of Australia's most famous, yet elusive, animals,

0:31:120:31:16

as it puts in a guest appearance.

0:31:160:31:18

A koala bear!

0:31:180:31:20

Oh, yeah.

0:31:200:31:22

Kacey's certainly getting into the swing of things.

0:31:220:31:25

I enjoyed it all today, because it's just been a really nice day.

0:31:250:31:30

And Luke's lapping up the Aussie lifestyle too.

0:31:300:31:33

I feel more at home here than I do at home.

0:31:330:31:37

Taking a breather gives the family the opportunity to catch up

0:31:370:31:40

on how the week's going.

0:31:400:31:42

So what you thinking so far about Australia?

0:31:420:31:45

-It's pretty good.

-I want to move here.

0:31:450:31:47

Oh, my goodness.

0:31:470:31:49

Life in Australia could mean Paula finally waving goodbye to benefits.

0:31:490:31:53

Coming to Australia would actually mean that I'm completely free of

0:31:530:31:56

any kind of tax credit or benefit and it would make me feel like

0:31:560:32:00

I don't have to be reliant on the government.

0:32:000:32:02

Luke may be sold, but Paula's desperately hoping today will have

0:32:020:32:05

worked wonders on Kacey.

0:32:050:32:08

Every time I think I've got there with Kacey,

0:32:080:32:10

she's going to be happy and she's definitely going to want to be here,

0:32:100:32:13

she'll then say to me, "Oh, I'm not quite sure."

0:32:130:32:16

She, though, is torn, still thinking of who

0:32:160:32:18

she'd have to leave behind in the UK.

0:32:180:32:20

Holding me back the most is probably my dad and my best friends,

0:32:200:32:25

because I don't think I could live properly without them,

0:32:250:32:29

because it would just be on my mind constantly.

0:32:290:32:33

The whole family have enjoyed their day together in the Australian bush.

0:32:330:32:37

So how will they vote when it comes to lifestyle?

0:32:370:32:40

Based upon the lifestyle activities we've enjoyed today,

0:32:400:32:43

our vote goes to...

0:32:430:32:45

-Australia.

-Australia.

0:32:520:32:53

Undecided.

0:32:530:32:55

Really? How can you be undecided on today?

0:32:550:32:58

Yeah, what is there to in Britain?

0:32:580:33:01

I think we could do most of this in the UK,

0:33:010:33:03

so I'm quite happy with my decision.

0:33:030:33:07

I'm quite surprised that you voted undecided.

0:33:070:33:10

Kacey's fear of leaving friends and family

0:33:170:33:20

threatens to derail Paula's dream.

0:33:200:33:22

At home, her passion is performing arts,

0:33:220:33:25

so we've arranged for her to visit a local drama group,

0:33:250:33:28

to give her a feel for how she could settle in.

0:33:280:33:30

One! Two! Three! Four! Five!

0:33:300:33:32

I'm just hoping that Kacey enjoys herself and that she makes some new friends

0:33:320:33:35

and that she realises that it's not as scary as she thinks it is,

0:33:350:33:38

coming to a new country.

0:33:380:33:39

-Kick, two, three, four...

-There is a lot riding on tonight,

0:33:390:33:43

because if I get along with people and if I like it,

0:33:430:33:45

then we're probably going to come.

0:33:450:33:48

And if you concentrate on the other person, your nerves will disappear.

0:33:480:33:52

As mum watches from the back of the room,

0:33:520:33:55

Kacey takes to her new class like an old-timer.

0:33:550:33:58

Oh, my God! Hey, hey, can I get a quick picture?

0:33:580:34:00

-Sorry, do I know you?

-Can I get a picture, please? Is it you?

0:34:000:34:03

Sorry, I don't have time for this at the moment,

0:34:030:34:06

-you'll have to do it another time.

-But...

0:34:060:34:08

Aw!

0:34:080:34:09

Afterwards, she gets to know some of her classmates.

0:34:090:34:12

How long have you been coming here and what's it like?

0:34:120:34:14

A couple of years, it's just really good. I love it.

0:34:140:34:17

What do you do with your weekends, then?

0:34:170:34:19

I'm a trainer for Glenelg footy club, like, the seniors, so I spend

0:34:190:34:22

a lot of my weekends with them.

0:34:220:34:25

Paula's happy to hear Kacey's had a fun evening.

0:34:250:34:28

-So do you feel a little bit better now?

-Yeah, I feel a lot better.

0:34:280:34:31

Reassured there was nice people.

0:34:310:34:33

There are nice people, I kept telling you this.

0:34:330:34:36

-Yeah, happy?

-Yeah.

-Good.

0:34:360:34:38

With Kacey perhaps coming round to a move, it's more important

0:34:440:34:48

than ever for the Jones' finances to stack up down under.

0:34:480:34:53

The family sit down to compare the cost of living in Australia

0:34:530:34:56

with the UK.

0:34:560:34:57

Starting with the weekly food shop.

0:34:570:35:00

Oh, my God. Look how much pizza is.

0:35:000:35:03

It's really expensive here, compared to the UK.

0:35:030:35:06

Potatoes are £5 more here.

0:35:070:35:10

-£5 more expensive for a bag of spuds?

-£5, yeah.

0:35:100:35:14

Ham's cheaper by £1.25.

0:35:140:35:17

That's quite a lot, isn't it, really?

0:35:170:35:20

-So it's £19.14 a week more expensive.

-That's not that much.

0:35:200:35:24

At around £80 a month more in Australia,

0:35:240:35:26

the food shop doesn't cause too much concern,

0:35:260:35:29

but they've still to look at the bigger bills.

0:35:290:35:33

The family base their calculations on the first property they saw.

0:35:330:35:37

Obviously, the rent's going to be more expensive,

0:35:370:35:39

but we knew that, well, I knew that,

0:35:390:35:41

because I wanted to get a much better house here, in Australia,

0:35:410:35:44

-than the one in the UK.

-Yeah.

0:35:440:35:46

Electricity's more expensive, but that's probably

0:35:460:35:48

because of all the air conditioning that people use over here.

0:35:480:35:52

Paula would be spending £304 more per month in Australia.

0:35:520:35:56

And losing benefits she'd get at home, means,

0:35:560:35:59

despite her higher salary down under,

0:35:590:36:01

the overall figure doesn't look good either.

0:36:010:36:05

So that's £321 a month worse off.

0:36:050:36:10

In total, the family would be nearly £4,000 a year worse off,

0:36:110:36:16

but Paula's determined that needn't hold them back.

0:36:160:36:20

We don't have to live in that really nice house that we've chose,

0:36:200:36:23

we could live in something a little bit cheaper.

0:36:230:36:26

So, we'd be better off in Britain?

0:36:260:36:28

A little bit, but it'll rain all year.

0:36:280:36:31

Paula feels they could make up the shortfall,

0:36:310:36:33

but will the necessary compromises be ones they're happy to make?

0:36:330:36:37

As they cast their votes on finances in Australia.

0:36:370:36:41

Based on the results of the reality check today, our vote goes to...

0:36:410:36:45

-Australia.

-Australia.

0:36:510:36:53

Undecided.

0:36:530:36:54

-So you're undecided again?

-Yeah.

0:36:540:36:57

-Why?

-Because, if we moved here,

0:36:570:36:59

I'd want to move for a really good reason and we couldn't have a house with a pool.

0:36:590:37:04

We'd have a better life.

0:37:040:37:05

So what you're saying is that you'd not really want to

0:37:050:37:09

compromise on a cheaper house?

0:37:090:37:11

It's not that, it's that I wouldn't want to come all the way out here

0:37:110:37:14

and leave my friends and family if we didn't have a pool,

0:37:140:37:16

because the pool's one of the main things I wanted.

0:37:160:37:19

With a little bit of imagination and some sacrifices,

0:37:260:37:29

Paula's confident the finances could work,

0:37:290:37:32

but Kacey's still not ready to commit to making the move.

0:37:320:37:37

Now Paula faces, potentially, her biggest hurdle,

0:37:370:37:40

as the family sit down to watch messages from friends and family

0:37:400:37:44

back in the UK.

0:37:440:37:46

-Hi.

-Hi, Paula.

-Hope you're having a good time.

0:37:460:37:48

Hope you're not missing us too much.

0:37:480:37:51

-Hello!

-Hi.

0:37:510:37:53

All right, Luke. Hi, Paula. Hi, Kacey.

0:37:530:37:55

What on earth do you want to go and live in Australia for?

0:37:550:37:57

-When you could be here in sunny...

-Beautiful, sunny north Wales.

0:37:570:38:01

The family's very close, we all are, really.

0:38:010:38:07

Paula's a brilliant girl.

0:38:070:38:09

Paula is one of the most chilled, easy-going people that I know,

0:38:090:38:12

which is probably why we get on so well.

0:38:120:38:15

She's a good laugh at school and she's very nice and kind.

0:38:160:38:20

A good friend.

0:38:200:38:23

Luke is lovely, confident, silly, daft,

0:38:230:38:28

has grown up to be a lovely young man.

0:38:280:38:32

She seems to want to go for her mum's side,

0:38:320:38:35

because her mum's really excited to go.

0:38:350:38:38

She doesn't want to leave, cos she'd miss us all.

0:38:380:38:41

-Australia's gain would be our loss.

-Oh, definitely, yeah.

0:38:410:38:44

-Because we would miss her very much.

-Definitely.

0:38:440:38:47

I'd miss their phone calls,

0:38:470:38:49

I would miss Sunday meals and I'd miss my daughter.

0:38:490:38:54

Luke, if you like what you're seeing so far and you're enjoying it,

0:38:540:38:57

I think you should go for it.

0:38:570:38:59

But, don't forget, if you do decide to go, you can always come home.

0:38:590:39:03

Oh, my God. I'm actually going to cry.

0:39:030:39:06

Don't consider anybody else, think about you and the children and

0:39:060:39:10

how you feel in Australia at the moment

0:39:100:39:13

and make your decision based on that.

0:39:130:39:16

Bye for now, bye!

0:39:160:39:18

What are you thinking?

0:39:180:39:20

I reckon we should come over. Maybe.

0:39:200:39:24

-What do you think?

-That's what they all think.

0:39:240:39:27

-I'm not really sure.

-You're still unsure.

0:39:270:39:30

Yeah, I'm still unsure, cos I know I'd miss them.

0:39:300:39:34

Messages from home have been a poignant reminder of

0:39:360:39:39

just how hard it would be to leave loved ones behind in the UK.

0:39:390:39:44

For decades, Paula's dream of a new life in Australia

0:39:440:39:47

has been out of reach.

0:39:470:39:49

Now, she's closer than ever to finally making it a reality,

0:39:490:39:53

but, with two undecided votes so far from Kacey,

0:39:530:39:56

will her plans for a fresh start in Australia

0:39:560:40:00

slip from her grasp at the last moment?

0:40:000:40:02

A week ago, when the Jones family arrived

0:40:070:40:10

for their trial week in Adelaide,

0:40:100:40:12

Paula was pinning her hopes on Australia

0:40:120:40:14

delivering a brighter future.

0:40:140:40:17

It's completely lived up to expectation.

0:40:170:40:19

In fact, if anything, it's got better, it's better than I expected.

0:40:190:40:22

It's just brilliant, I don't want to go home.

0:40:220:40:25

For Luke, Australia hasn't put a foot wrong.

0:40:260:40:30

The week's been really good, I've had a good time.

0:40:300:40:33

It makes me want to move here now.

0:40:330:40:35

I could definitely call it home, straight away.

0:40:350:40:37

But the week has thrown some obstacles in Paula's direction.

0:40:370:40:41

There's been a couple of little disappointing moments,

0:40:410:40:43

especially where Kacey's involved,

0:40:430:40:46

cos I know she's a little bit unsure of what she wants.

0:40:460:40:49

I think I'm the one keeping us back from doing it

0:40:490:40:51

and I feel quite upset for doing it,

0:40:510:40:54

but I'd just miss everybody too much.

0:40:540:40:56

Kacey knows her vote could have a massive impact

0:40:580:41:01

on the future direction of the family's lives.

0:41:010:41:04

There is a lot of pressure put on me today, in the voting,

0:41:040:41:07

because if I say yes, then I know we're definitely coming

0:41:070:41:11

in the next year, but if I say Britain, then, obviously,

0:41:110:41:14

they'd get very upset.

0:41:140:41:17

PAULA SIGHS

0:41:170:41:18

If Kacey votes for the UK today, I will be upset, I'll be gutted.

0:41:180:41:22

Paula's dream will live or die on the approaching final turn of the cards.

0:41:220:41:27

I'm really hoping to get a clear outcome for Australia today.

0:41:270:41:30

I think now's the time. I think if I'm going to do it,

0:41:300:41:33

I should do it now.

0:41:330:41:35

It's time for the family to decide

0:41:350:41:37

where they will spend the rest of their lives.

0:41:370:41:39

We've had a fantastic week, this week, in Australia.

0:41:390:41:42

We've learnt a lot about Adelaide. We've really, really enjoyed it.

0:41:420:41:46

So, based upon our experience this week, our vote goes to...

0:41:460:41:49

-Australia.

-Undecided.

-Australia.

0:42:010:42:04

-Are you undecided, still?

-Yeah.

0:42:040:42:06

-OK.

-You voted that every time, apart from once.

0:42:060:42:09

Yeah, but I'm not really sure where I want to be right now,

0:42:090:42:12

whether it's in Australia or the UK.

0:42:120:42:15

I definitely want to come here when I'm older.

0:42:150:42:17

So it's definitely an option to still move out here,

0:42:170:42:19

-when you're a little bit older?

-Yeah, definitely.

0:42:190:42:22

-Yeah, is that a promise?

-Definitely.

-Can I have a pinkie promise?

0:42:220:42:25

-Go on, pinkie promise.

-Pinkie promise!

0:42:250:42:27

-When you're older.

-Are you kidding me?

-No, come on!

0:42:270:42:30

-No you've got to pinkie on it.

-Oh, fine.

0:42:300:42:32

-Pinkie promise, yeah, happy with that?

-Yeah.

0:42:320:42:34

What about you, happy with that?

0:42:340:42:35

Yeah, I definitely want to move here. Definitely.

0:42:350:42:40

-Come on.

-Are you kidding me? Is this actually happening?

0:42:400:42:43

-I don't want to hug.

-Group hug!

0:42:430:42:45

Do you think I've made the right decision, Mum?

0:42:450:42:47

Well, you haven't made the decision.

0:42:470:42:49

-I'm very excited now.

-Why?

-I'm excited,

0:42:490:42:52

cos I know that we might not be able to come straight away,

0:42:520:42:54

but Luke will come and then we'll follow him.

0:42:540:42:57

It's not the definitive result that she had hoped for,

0:42:570:43:00

but Paula remains optimistic that, with time,

0:43:000:43:04

the family will make it down under.

0:43:040:43:07

Her dream's not dead yet.

0:43:070:43:10

We hope, wherever Paula, Luke and Kacey choose to settle,

0:43:100:43:13

the future brings them every happiness.
