APPLAUSE AND SINGING

0:00:020:00:08

Hi, we are Keith and Kristyn Getty,

0:00:080:00:09

and welcome to Joy at Irish Christmas.

0:00:090:00:12

Although we're from Northern Ireland,

0:00:120:00:14

over the last five years, we've had the privilege of performing

0:00:140:00:17

our Christmas concert to audiences across our adopted home of America.

0:00:170:00:21

And we'd love to share this with you now, which is

0:00:210:00:23

kind of appropriate, because the first songs we wrote for this

0:00:230:00:26

show, we wrote ten years ago, here on the North Antrim coast.

0:00:260:00:29

The concert you are about to see was recorded in Tennessee with

0:00:290:00:32

a fabulous band of musicians from America and from Ireland.

0:00:320:00:36

So, we hope you enjoy it. And feel free to sing along!

0:00:360:00:38

And we'd like to wish you a very happy Christmas.

And in the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy,

0:04:590:05:02

God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,

0:05:020:05:06

to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph,

0:05:060:05:10

a descendant of David.

0:05:100:05:12

The virgin's name was Mary.

0:05:120:05:15

The angel went to her and said,

0:05:150:05:17

"Greetings, you who are highly favoured. The Lord is with you.

0:05:170:05:22

"You will conceive and give birth to a son and you are to call him Jesus.

0:05:220:05:28

"He will be great and will be called the son of the most high."

APPLAUSE

0:08:470:08:50

It's an incredible thing, isn't it, how carols telling the story,

0:08:540:08:58

joining us together in so many ways? Throughout history they have told

0:08:580:09:01

this wonderful Christmas story.

0:09:010:09:03

In the old world, before the Bible was even in English,

0:09:030:09:07

it was the way the story was told - door-to-door in the streets,

0:09:070:09:10

carollers going out and singing.

0:09:100:09:12

And we stand on the tall shoulders, as writers and as singers,

0:09:120:09:16

of those many wonderful composers and poets who have penned

0:09:160:09:20

beautiful carols that have been handed down to us.

0:09:200:09:23

We're going to invite you to stand and let's sing first Joy Has Dawned.

0:09:230:09:27

APPLAUSE

0:14:240:14:26

Last time we were here we'd just had Eliza, our little daughter Eliza,

0:14:340:14:38

and we've come back with another little one, Charlotte.

0:14:380:14:41

And then we found out a few weeks before we went on the road

0:14:410:14:44

for this tour that we were pregnant with number three.

0:14:440:14:47

APPLAUSE

0:14:470:14:49

Which was a bit of a shock. I am really starting to show a bit,

0:14:490:14:52

so it was a relief when I could tell people because I got bigger very,

0:14:520:14:56

very fast. But this is a prayer for our kids and by extension

0:14:560:14:59

maybe they're your prayers, as well.

0:14:590:15:01

# Before you close your eyes to sleep

0:15:130:15:19

# I have a promise still to keep

0:15:200:15:27

# As I hold you in my arms

0:15:270:15:32

# I pray your little frame grows strong

0:15:340:15:41

# And that faith takes hold while you are young

0:15:410:15:49

# This is my prayer for you

0:15:490:15:53

# Hold my hand

0:15:560:16:01

# I'll teach you the way to go

0:16:030:16:07

# Through the joys, through the tears

0:16:090:16:14

# The journey of these years

0:16:140:16:17

# May you trust Him till the end

0:16:170:16:21

# May you trust Him in the end

0:16:240:16:29

# This world is not as it should be

0:16:320:16:37

# But the Saviour opens eyes to see

0:16:390:16:45

# All that's beautiful and true

0:16:460:16:51

# Oh, may His light fill all you are

0:16:530:17:00

# And the jewel of wisdom crown your heart

0:17:000:17:07

# This is my prayer for you

0:17:070:17:11

# Hold my hand

0:17:140:17:19

# I'll teach you the way to go

0:17:210:17:25

# Through the joys, through the tears

0:17:270:17:31

# The journey of these years

0:17:310:17:35

# He is with us till the end

0:17:350:17:39

# He is faithful till the end

0:17:420:17:46

# Ah

0:18:140:18:16

# Ah

0:18:180:18:20

# Ah

0:18:210:18:24

# Ah

0:18:250:18:27

# You'll travel where my arms won't reach

0:18:270:18:34

# As the road will rise to lead your feet

0:18:340:18:41

# On a journey of your own

0:18:410:18:47

# May my mistakes not hinder you

0:18:490:18:55

# But His grace remain and guide you through

0:18:550:19:03

# This will be my prayer for you

0:19:030:19:08

# Take His hand

0:19:110:19:16

# And go where He calls you to

0:19:170:19:21

# And whatever comes, seek Him

0:19:230:19:27

# With all of your heart

0:19:270:19:31

# This will be my prayer for you

0:19:310:19:36

# Mmm-mm-mmm

0:19:380:19:43

# Father, hear my ceaseless prayer

0:19:450:19:50

# Oh, keep them in your care. #

0:19:530:20:01

APPLAUSE

0:20:060:20:08

# Hark! Can you hear the angels?

0:23:370:23:42

# Hark! Can you hear the angels?

0:23:450:23:51

MUSIC: The Little Drummer Boy

0:25:240:25:27

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:30:350:30:37

This is a song that Keith and I wrote many years ago.

0:30:490:30:52

We brought back for this tour.

0:30:520:30:54

It's called Wonder and one of the things

0:30:540:30:56

we love about being parents is getting to see everything again

0:30:560:31:00

for the first time through the eyes of your kids.

0:31:000:31:03

That sense of discovery and wonder at new things, like snow falling.

0:31:030:31:07

But I don't know what happens as we get older,

0:31:070:31:10

that sense of wonder begins to dim a little.

0:31:100:31:13

And yet I think it is important that we keep our hearts soft

0:31:130:31:17

to the echoes of God's glory all around us.

0:31:170:31:20

In creation, in each other

0:31:200:31:22

and in this story of Christmas that we have been singing about tonight.

0:31:220:31:26

To keep us thankful, to keep cynicism away

0:31:260:31:30

and to draw our hearts into worship of the one whose name is wonderful.

0:31:300:31:37

# I've seen days

0:31:480:31:50

# Melt into nights

0:31:500:31:53

# In circles of light

0:31:540:31:59

# I've watched a spider spin a star

0:31:590:32:04

# Between the window box flowers

0:32:040:32:10

# I've heard you laugh

0:32:100:32:13

# And cry

0:32:130:32:16

# In a simple sigh

0:32:160:32:21

# And a story

0:32:210:32:24

# From within

0:32:240:32:28

# Don't let me lose

0:32:290:32:34

# My wonder

0:32:340:32:40

# Don't let me lose

0:32:400:32:45

# My wonder

0:32:450:32:50

# I saw her broken

0:33:120:33:14

# Dreams inside

0:33:140:33:18

# But helping others fly

0:33:180:33:22

# I saw his eyes without a doubt

0:33:220:33:27

# They web of lies faded out

0:33:270:33:31

# And though her calling roared

0:33:310:33:37

# Such graciousness poured

0:33:370:33:42

# From the vision of her soul

0:33:420:33:49

# Don't let me lose

0:33:500:33:55

# My wonder

0:33:550:34:00

# Don't let me lose

0:34:000:34:05

# My wonder

0:34:050:34:09

# A baby cried

0:34:500:34:52

# Through the dark

0:34:520:34:56

# Beneath a jewelled spark

0:34:560:34:59

# I knew Your voice up on the hill

0:34:590:35:04

# And heard my lostness still

0:35:050:35:09

# I found my home in the light

0:35:090:35:15

# Where wrong was made right

0:35:150:35:19

# And You rose as the morning star

0:35:190:35:26

# Don't let me lose my wonder

0:35:270:35:35

# Don't let me lose my wonder

0:35:370:35:45

# Don't let me lose my wonder

0:39:160:39:20

# Come ye sinners poor and needy

0:39:350:39:39

# Weak and wounded sick and sore

0:39:390:39:42

# Jesus ready stands to save you

0:39:420:39:47

# Full of pity, love and power... #

0:39:470:39:50

Woo!

0:39:510:39:53

# Come ye thirsty Come and welcome

0:39:590:40:03

# God's free bounty glorify

0:40:030:40:07

# True belief and true repentance

0:40:070:40:11

# Every grace that brings you nigh

0:40:110:40:15

# Come ye weary, heavy-laden

0:40:220:40:26

# Lost and ruined by the fall

0:40:260:40:30

# If you tarry till you're better

0:40:300:40:34

# You will never come at all... #

0:40:340:40:38

I will rise.

0:40:510:40:53

# I will rise and go to Jesus

0:40:530:40:57

# He'll embrace me in His arms

0:40:570:41:00

# In the arms of my dear Saviour

0:41:000:41:04

# Oh, there are 10,000 charms

0:41:040:41:08

# Oh, there are 10,000 charms. #

0:41:080:41:12

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:42:280:42:31

Won't you stand with us as we sing

0:42:370:42:39

of Christ who became a helpless bairn.

0:42:390:42:43

Whoo!

0:49:110:49:13

ALL CLAP ALONG

0:49:130:49:16

CHEERING

0:49:430:49:47

We have just one more song for you before you go.

0:49:530:49:55

Irish culture is famous for its blessings,

0:49:550:49:58

some of which should never be repeated in a microphone.

0:49:580:50:01

But there are some that might be worth listening to

0:50:010:50:04

and you might be able to take with you - we hope this is one.

0:50:040:50:07

For many, going to Christmas time, coming into this time,

0:50:070:50:09

you're excited, looking forward to it.

0:50:090:50:12

But for many others, they approach it with a heavy heart.

0:50:120:50:14

The most wonderful thing about this story we've been singing about

0:50:140:50:18

tonight is that those parts which are most important

0:50:180:50:20

reach to each of us, wherever we are.

0:50:200:50:22

And we hope and pray that this message of hope and peace

0:50:220:50:26

and grace might ring true in your hearts this evening.

0:50:260:50:30

# Now may the fragrance of his peace

0:50:410:50:45

# Soar through your heart like the dove released

0:50:470:50:53

# Hide in His wings Oh, weary, distant soul

0:50:540:51:00

# He'll guide your spirit home

0:51:000:51:05

# And may His love poured from on high

0:51:150:51:19

# Flow to the depths of your deepest sigh

0:51:210:51:27

# Oh, come and drink from the only living stream

0:51:270:51:33

# And on His shoulder lean

0:51:330:51:38

# And may the hope that will not deceive

0:51:460:51:52
