Spaghetti Western Orchestra BBC Proms

Once upon a time in the west, five intrepid mussitions, spurred on by

a passion for the film scores of Ennio Morricone, devised a

completely unclassifiable form of entertainment. They've taken these

epic soundtracks and given them new life through a cocktail of

conventional and, frankly, bizarre instruments. And for no more really

than a Fistful of Dollars, they're here tonight at the Proms. They are,

ladies and gentlemen, very good. Some of them may be a little bad,

but they're definitely not ugly. I give you the Spaghetti Western

Orchestra. Once upon a time in the west, there

were a fistful of men, men whose only wish was for a long life in

the magical world of Italian westerns, but their efforts were

destined for the cutting room floor - celluloid lives cut short by a

ruthless Italian director. Through the music of Maestro Ennio

Morricone, these restless souls are on a sonic journey, and they're

the Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences with the Spaghetti Western

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Tonight, the orchestra is going to

take you deep into some serious sonic territory with a collection

of fine musical works from the Ennio Morricone. That's Ennio

A la cart, we got tunes from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly Once

Upon a Time in the West, Fistful of Dollars, they're here tonight at

the Proms, For a Few Dollars More, A Fist Full of Dynamite, Death

Rides a Horse and of course, the classic Two Mules For Sister Sara,

if we're feeling frisky, we might do a tune from A Gun for Ringo or

perhaps The Return of Ringo or Ringo Rides Again. It all boils

down to a lot of guns and a lot of Ringos, but don't be perturbed,

ladies and gentlemen, because these sophisticated songs will be

seasoned with sound effect secrets and garnished with gratuitous

choruses of miscellaneous instruments. It's the sound of men

extremists. Ain't that right, boys? Thaimt right, folks? -- ain't that

right, folks? Sir Henry Wood would be pleased. Remember that - we're

going to call on your services a little later in the show, but for

now, ladies and gentlemen, madams and damns and Prommers and so on

with no more preverification or much ado about nothing indeed, it

is my great pleasure to present to you - the bank teller.
