In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, | :14:39. | :14:43.
keeping watch over their flock by night, | :14:43. | :14:46.
then an angel of the Lord stood before them | :14:46. | :14:50.
and the glory of the Lord shone around them, | :14:50. | :14:53.
and they were terrified. | :14:53. | :14:55.
But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, | :14:55. | :14:59.
"for see, I am bringing you good news | :14:59. | :15:02.
"of great joy for all the people, | :15:02. | :15:05.
"to you is born this day in the City of David a Saviour, | :15:05. | :15:09.
"who is the Messiah, the Lord. | :15:09. | :15:12.
"This will be a sign for you, you will find a child | :15:12. | :15:16.
"wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger." | :15:16. | :15:20.
And suddenly there was with the angel | :15:20. | :15:24.
a multitude of the heavenly host, | :15:24. | :15:26.
praising God and saying, | :15:26. | :15:29.
"Glory to God in the highest heaven, | :15:29. | :15:32.
"and on earth peace among those whom he favours!" | :15:32. | :15:37.
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, | :15:37. | :15:40.
the shepherds said to one another, | :15:40. | :15:43.
"Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing | :15:43. | :15:46.
"that has taken place, | :15:46. | :15:48.
"which the Lord has made known to us." | :15:48. | :15:51.
So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, | :15:51. | :15:56.
and the child lying in the manger. | :15:56. | :15:59.
When they saw this, they made known | :15:59. | :16:02.
what had been told them about this child | :16:02. | :16:05.
and all who heard it were amazed | :16:05. | :16:08.
at what the shepherds told them. | :16:08. | :16:10.
But Mary treasured all these words | :16:10. | :16:14.
and pondered them in her heart. | :16:14. | :16:16.
The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God | :16:16. | :16:20.
for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. | :16:20. | :16:25.

A very happy Christmas to you all! | :17:47. | :17:50.
A friend was at a carol service | :17:50. | :17:53.
and singing his way through O Little Town Of Bethlehem | :17:53. | :17:57.
until he found himself singing what he thought | :17:57. | :17:59.
was quite an appropriate misprint for our time - | :17:59. | :18:02.
"While morals sleep, the angels keep, | :18:02. | :18:12.
:18:12. | :18:22. | ||
." | :18:22. | :18:23. | |
." "While | :18:23. | :18:24.
." "While morals | :18:24. | :18:33.
." "While morals sleep." we note even behind that lies a moral and | :18:33. | :18:39.
even a spiritual crisis. This week there was a survey which | :18:39. | :18:44.
showed that we Brits are more pessimistic than any other nation. | :18:44. | :18:51.
And, the world is becoming more gloomy. Wars, earthquakes, of | :18:51. | :18:58.
revolutions. Children going to bed hungry. Starvation. Can anyone say | :18:58. | :19:02.
that the euro or rescue the nations of Europe from going down like | :19:02. | :19:08.
dominoes? But, here we all laugh. The cards have been sent, the tree | :19:08. | :19:15.
has been decorated, children are up early. Adults are sleepy from all | :19:15. | :19:22.
of their tasks. Why are we here? To welcome our King and Saviour to his | :19:22. | :19:30.
world. Long ago, the Roman Emperor Augustus had rescued the Empire by | :19:30. | :19:35.
defeating his rivals. Now he found himself having to pay for the | :19:35. | :19:40.
armies and their weapons. So, he uses his military might on the | :19:40. | :19:46.
civilian population. He orders a senses to raise taxes and pay his | :19:46. | :19:53.
bankers. It sounds a little familiar. Ordinary people like Mary | :19:53. | :19:57.
and Joseph and find themselves in an unfair situation which has | :19:57. | :20:02.
suddenly got a lot tougher. Bethlehem turns away the young | :20:02. | :20:11.
couple. Their baby is born in an outhouse. And placed in a manger. | :20:11. | :20:18.
In the same region, there were shepherds in the fields. The angel | :20:18. | :20:26.
comes to ordinary people first. The sort who had to be on duty at night. | :20:26. | :20:30.
With a shift patterns that mean they cannot come to the temple | :20:30. | :20:35.
regularly. But the Angel says, this is for everyone, we are in it | :20:36. | :20:42.
together. Be not afraid, I bring you good news of great joy, for all | :20:42. | :20:52.
:20:52. | :20:54. | ||
of the people. Bethlehem may reject the Messiah, but God's army, the | :20:54. | :20:59.
people in the fields, will see what everybody else Mrs, that here is | :20:59. | :21:05.
the moment when God steps in to redeem the human story. So that we | :21:05. | :21:12.
do not have to be afraid of the future. And which will have more | :21:13. | :21:20.
influence on the history of the world? The Army, or Ray baby, and | :21:20. | :21:27.
the ordinary men and women who will become his followers? As a pagan | :21:27. | :21:34.
writer wrote, while the Emperor made give peace from walk on land | :21:34. | :21:39.
and sea, he cannot give peace from passion, grief, and envy. He cannot | :21:39. | :21:47.
give peace of heart, which we yearn for more than out with peace. But, | :21:47. | :21:51.
the birth of this child can. This will be a sign for you, you will | :21:52. | :22:01.
:22:02. | :22:02. | ||
find a child wrapped in bands of cloth, and lying in a manger. So, | :22:02. | :22:07.
what about us? Mostly, our lives are humdrum, but occasionally we | :22:07. | :22:11.
get a glimpse of the angels, especially perhaps at Christmas. | :22:11. | :22:19.
And, our heart cannot stop itself from lolling -- lolling to join in | :22:19. | :22:24.
with the angels and their song. It is at such moments that our lives | :22:24. | :22:32.
can become a kind of stable, and our heart's, a kind of manger. | :22:32. | :22:42.
:22:42. | :22:43. | ||
Where he is glad to do well and -- dwell. When the world get darker, | :22:43. | :22:49.
surveys show we are less generous. Poor people must big scroungers, we | :22:49. | :22:54.
say. But remember, it was to the shepherds that the Saviour came | :22:54. | :23:00.
first. Christ will be our Saviour again, and take away our here, if | :23:00. | :23:05.
we make space for him as the one who chooses the humble to defeat | :23:05. | :23:15.
:23:15. | :23:15. | ||
the arrogant. What had seemed the gloomiest of times was the moment | :23:15. | :23:20.
when history was redeemed for all who welcomed the Saviour. The most | :23:20. | :23:27.
powerful thing is a heart which is open, an open heart to God. Let us | :23:27. | :23:37.
:23:37. | :23:43. | ||
Lord, you found no room in the inn, but make yourself a temple for all | :23:43. | :23:47.
who make space for you. Come into our heart, swe pray, and help us | :23:47. | :23:57.

:40:18. | :40:20. | ||
We praise and bless you, loving Father, | :40:20. | :40:22.
through Jesus Christ, our Lord, and as we obey his command, | :40:22. | :40:26.
send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread | :40:26. | :40:30.
and wine outpoured may be for us the body | :40:30. | :40:34.
and blood of your dear Son. | :40:34. | :40:37.
On the night before he died | :40:37. | :40:40.
he had supper with his friends and, | :40:40. | :40:43.
taking bread, he praised you. | :40:43. | :40:46.
He broke the bread, gave it to them and said, | :40:46. | :40:49.
"Take, eat, this is my body | :40:49. | :40:54.
"which is given for you, do this in remembrance of me." | :40:54. | :41:02.
When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. | :41:02. | :41:10.
Again he praised you, gave it to them and said, | :41:10. | :41:15.
"Drink this, all of you, | :41:15. | :41:21.
"this is my blood of the new covenant, | :41:21. | :41:24.
"which is shed for you and for many | :41:24. | :41:27.
"for the forgiveness of sins." | :41:27. | :41:30.
Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. | :41:30. | :41:40.
:41:40. | :41:41. | ||
So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, | :41:41. | :41:45.
in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice | :41:45. | :41:48.
made once for all upon the cross. | :41:48. | :41:52.
Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, | :41:52. | :41:55.
we proclaim his death and resurrection | :41:55. | :41:58.
until he comes in glory. | :41:58. | :42:01.
# Christ is the bread of life | :42:01. | :42:06.
ALL: # When we eat this living bread | :42:06. | :42:16.

And | :42:46. | :42:46. | |
And justice | :42:46. | :42:46.
And justice and | :42:46. | :42:55.
And justice and mercy will be seen we. Gather us in your loving arms. | :42:55. | :43:01.

ALL: God here among us, light in the midst of us, | :44:30. | :44:33.
bring us to light and life. | :44:33. | :44:38.
Christ is the true bread | :44:38. | :44:41.
which has come down from heaven. | :44:41. | :44:44.
ALL: Lord, give us this bread always. | :44:44. | :44:54.
