-It's a holy place - there's a rich

-Christian history in this place.

-Who was Saint Melangell?

-She was a princess from Ireland.

-She came here during the seventh

-century to live as a hermit.

-Her aim was to establish a sanctuary

-in this place.

-Prince Brochwel was out hunting

-one day, chasing a hare.

-The hare escaped

-and hid under Melangell's robe.

-The prince saw this and was amazed.

-He granted Melangell

-a parcel of land...

-..and she established

-a sanctuary here.

-A Christian presence

-has remained here ever since.

-There is someone lying in this

-graveyard that meant a lot to you.

-Nansi Richards, the Montgomeryshire

-harpist, is buried here.

-As a young man,

-I became good friends with her.

-I hold her, and all her work,

-in high regard.

-A few years ago,

-I wrote a poem about her funeral.

-It ends with these words.

-"She is here and across the world

-"She is everywhere but buried

-"Gypsy of our Saturdays,

-Melangell of our music."

-or Gildas as he is known.

-It was a historic moment for Arwel.

-A few months ago, I had the pleasure

-of travelling on a steam train...

-..from Caernarfon to Porthmadog in

-the company of Reverend Harri Parri.

-The future of the Church depends

-on children and young people.

-How did you attract them

-to your congregation?

-I'm not sure I succeeded.

-It's such a pleasure to work

-with children and youngsters.

-I remember my time in Porthmadog,

-it was a wonderful time.

-There was a group in Porthmadog

-called the Wana Kritso society...

-..named after a Kenyan girl

-who was adopted

-Iorwerth Jones and I

-worked with them.

-We achieved great things.

-It was the time of Gospel, Superstar

-and the Jesus Movement from America.

-Great things happened.

-Carys is now in Taiwan

-and has been there for 25 years.

-I remember the miracle happening.

-There was a theatre in the chapel

-in Caernarfon.

-With Ron Williams, I established

-a youth theatre called AniMeth.

-We performed musicals across Wales

-to impart the message of the Bible.

-Not everyone has stayed but seeds

-were sown and I'm proud of it.

-Thank you for keeping us company

-throughout the year.
