-by the Llandaff bishopric recently.

-went to Port Talbot to meet him.

-Rhun ap Robert

-is one of many priests...

-..ordained

-by the Llandaff bishopric recently.

-Raised in Pwllheli, he's now one

-of a team of priests in Port Talbot.

-Rhun, you spent years as a teacher.

-This is quite a change of direction.

-Take us back to the start.

-I first thought

-that I felt some kind of calling...

-..when I was 19 years old.

-I enjoyed going to church

-all the while I was growing up.

-I thought I might like to do it,

-but it always seemed beyond me.

-It was for someone else, not me.

-I wouldn't be good enough.

-Life went on, in a way.

-Various things happened in my life,

-some difficult periods.

-I went to some dark depths,

-to be honest.

-When I was 34 years old...

-..I went to St David's Church

-in Cardiff and was warmly welcomed.

-I learnt what it was

-to live in a Christian community...

-..and to understand

-the call of God to all of us.

-Not as a priest,

-but for us all to serve Christ.

-In the name of the Father,

-the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

-Was it easy to turn in?

-It wasn't easy, but once I crossed

-the threshold into the church...

-..it was like crossing into a world

-that was slightly different.

-I could leave behind

-the things that worried me...

-..the difficult things in my life...

-..and gradually learnt

-about God's love.

-Almighty God,

-who forgives all who truly repent...

-..have mercy on you

-and set you free from sin.

-Why then take the extra step

-and become a priest?

-I remember one particular sermon

-by Gwynn ap Gwilym...

-..about Paul's conversion.

-At the end of the sermon,

-Gwynn ap Gwilym said...

-..that the way Paul

-had moved forward from this...

-..was through prayer,

-jubilation and work.

-He didn't know what was happening,

-but he felt something within him.

-I prayed intensely in church one day

-and asked God...

-.."What do you want me to do?"

-I opened my eyes,

-looked at my hands and just felt...

-..that God was asking me

-to do His work.

-From that moment on, I said,

-"Fine, here I am, send me."

-Rhun, Port Talbot is so busy.

-Cars are whizzing by

-and life goes on.

-What is your work?

-It starts with a prayer

-at 7.30am in the church.

-We can't wait for people

-to come to us.

-We have to go out

-into the community, as Jesus did.

-We've opened the St Paul's Centre.

-It houses

-Christians Against Poverty.

-That organization

-does immensely important work.

-There is great poverty here,

-and people get into debt.

-Debt can cause great difficulties

-for individuals and families.

-It shatters lives

-unless it's dealt with correctly.

-Volunteers from the church

-go to these people's homes...

-..just as someone to talk to.

-They also offer themselves

-as a friend from the church...

-..to help them through

-a tough time in their life.

-What have you got on next?

-You're a young man in his 40s.

-Does that offer wider possibilities

-to reach out to more people?

-We feel that a generation has been

-lost here, if not two generations.

-Some people just don't know

-Jesus Christ's story at all.

-That's why, when I first

-came here three years ago...

-..I put on a nativity play

-in the town's shopping centre.

-It was a project

-that united all the local churches.

-It reached people,

-they were touched by it.

-It brought the true spirit

-of Christmas into people's lives.

-I believe that God knows

-what He is doing.

-We try to do all sorts of things.

-Some will succeed, some won't.

-But if we do so with faith and

-confidence and don't succeed...

-..then we'll try something else.
