# Well, it ain't easy What a joy to have Norah Jones back

in the studio. Norah Jones, ladies and gentlemen. With Say Goodbye

from her Broke Hearts LP. So we're going over here. Somebody was going

like that and I thought they meant stop, but it means we only have got

four minutes to talk to the wonderful, Jack White. You are a

marvel. First of all, I want to discuss this, because you have made

one of these and not a lot of people have these. Can I just show

the people what it is? Yes. Some of the younger viewers may not know

what this is. How would you describe this this? It is a

gigantic compact disc. You prefer vinyl to CD? It is the

most romantic way to experience music.

You make it in Nashville and your record company is in Nashville. Why

do you choose Nashville? It just felt good to me. I was always

working in Tennessee. I always found myself in Tennessee. I don't

know why. I looked off over down south.

There is great music. For sure.

The other thing I should explain, you started off with the fantastic

all female group, but you have an all male group. Why two instead of

one? I wanted to challenge myself. It would be easier if I had five or

six people to back you up on stage and learn your songs like they are

on the record, but I want to try things differently and make myself

work every night and challenge ourselves. We don't have a set list

and we challenge each other. When we go out there, we don't know what

we're going to do. We do different versions of the same songs, but it

is still a lot of work. We were talking about the song St

James Infirmary Blues. It is a very old London song, but you have a

great take on it? Yeah, you know what, Meg and I covered that track

on one of our early records. We had Betty Boop cartoons.

Am I right at right table? Yes. Congratulations because The

Chieftains are celebrating 50 years? 50 years of madness. A great

journey. A great journey. You have got this great record and

it is called The Voice of ages and lots of fantastic people have done

stuff with you. There is some people in the room, tell us about

who is in the room that's going to be stuff with you, the Carolina

Chocolate Drops and it fits perfectly into their blue grass

style and fitting our reels into their music and the music was just

amazing altogether and also Peggy Gordon, a lovely song from The

Secret Sisters. That was all a great joy.

And they seemed to fit in beautifully? When I heard a lot of

the music from the various, there must be nine or ten, artists on

like Bonnie who sings a lovely song called down by Will Gardens which

is an old melody called The Men Of The West. A lot of the songs came

from Irish tunes and that sort of thing.

That's where they first sprang out of the fields or fromted fairy

fairy glades. Is that true, there is supposed to be a place where the

fairies live and the music is created? We don't have much of that

over there! I I think we have got a bit from the middle period of your

career, from 1977. Oh gosh. I think here we are from the London

You are a terrible man. You are a terrible man!

It has got a great beat. What is that drum called? The boran.

It is like a whole kit? Yes. You have lasted, I mean the Rolling

Stones are going to be going for 50 years and you too have been going

for 50 years. What's the secret to your longevity? Madness! It has to

do with the music, this great folk artist of music and there is a

great buzz there and now we start to spread it around the the world

and to mix it in other traditions, from China, we played on the Great

Wall of China with Chinese musicians. So there is no stop on

it, you know, and the last one was Mexico, you know, and people

joining in with us. Anyway, I could go on forever.

It is great to have you in the studio. What a marvellous record.
