and a completely direction all together. She's very talented and

is somebody who all the big shots in the jazz world have said she is

catch up with. He's tremendously talented. He's only seated at the

moment. There's not a single drunk in front of him. And completely

Now, new record, over 20 years since you released your first record.

Indeed. 11 albums on, have you changed the way you approach music

now? I'm exactly the same inside, but I just try to control that rage

and anger and try to make it a bit more grown up. Focus it more?

Indeed, yeah. Does the music you like changed? I think the stuff you

like from 16 to 22 stays with you forever be that the Clash or

Morrissey or echo and the bunnimen, I think Jake is amazing. Are

different things also outside of music that inspire you now? Yeah,

they always have done, books or paintings or magazines or anything

really. Clothes. Very nice. Rush jacket is marvellous. Ive was going

to talk about your painting and books and things. Before that, we've

got a lovely bit of footage which we've found. There was a programme

called Top of the Pops. What an amazing programme. Life was so easy

then. Here it is. APPLAUSE

That was the most ever complaints on Top of the Pops. Really, why?

17,000, I think. Well done. There was fire and we looked like extras

from apop lips now. Which we thought was -- Apocalypse now. Which we

thought was brilliant. Here we are, back in the day. You tend to look

really ugly upside down. Now, that balaclava, you don't have it? Yeah

it's on the teapot in the studio in Cardiff. I had a -- I had to Tippex

James' name on it before the show. Having a mask and writing somebody's

James' name on it before the show. name on it, that's nice. Are you a

great hoarder? I'm the archivist of the band. Mick Jones in the Clark

great hoarder? I'm the archivist of collects stuff. My wife makes me

throw that stuff away. Who wears the trousers. The Subutio went out last

week. Many people will write in about that. Would you like an

exhibition, like David Bowie where the person becomes an art work,

about yourself or yourself and the Manics? I have an exhibition of my

own work next year. I would like to have one for Richie, because he was

one of the greatest and most intelligent rock stars of our

generation. A great tribute too. Indeed. You've worked with a lot of

great people. Richard Hawley is one and Lucy Rose. Lucy has flown over

to Las Vegas and cancelled a few gigs to do it tonight. Been real

live blessed. It's a lovely record. It's a mellower record. Very mellow,

which led me to making this new record. It's called Samson and

Delilah. Yes. A departure from your last record. It's like an 80s

electrosound. Yes, I feel there's been a transformation. I've been

soaking up so much music and music that I didn't know much about

deeply, BJORK, I'm a huge fan of. Grace Jones. Andrewy Lennox. Yes,

absolutely. She's an incredible artist. I remember seeing her at the

woman of the world event and she's so inspiring because she's such a

strong woman. Her music is incredible. So I was, yeah, heavily

inspired by her. Do you ever since of her music? I love Sweet Dreams.
