Himalayan. I am delighted to welcome into the studio, here now to chat

about music, the wonderful Idris Elba! I see they have spoil you to a

quarter of a glass of beer. It is T! You have done these amazing

action roles, and now you have been moving into the world of music. Were

you always in the world of music? Yes, I was probably the youngest DJ

you have ever met, I was three years old when my parents gave me Marvin

Gaye, Let's Get It On. Then I was the family DJ. Did you play other

records, or just that one? Just that one! That was my life. I have always

had a love affair with music. I was a pirate DJ in London, it was either

to be a DJ or an actor, being an actor pays better but I have always

done it. This record, Mandela, shall we have a look or do you want to

explain it? I will explain it, it is part of -- it started when my agent

said they would like me to play Mandela. I went to the country, and

a year later I went back and recorded this album. It is a

testament, a love letter to Mandela and the country and my journey. And

learning about the music while you were there. Let's have a glance.

APPLAUSE That is a lovely piece of music.

The air guitar is shameless! And would you do this kind of thing

live? It would be nice too. I had a bunch of musicians, poets, we all

went to South Africa. We worked with a famous South African singer. We

all jumped into a studio for about four weeks. I did a lot of air

guitar. I said I want to try this and we came up with this album. Mary

J Blige was telling me he has done a record in London. She says in London

they stopped and they have a proper lunch. What about South Africa? It

was just a factory line. We had three or four studios and it did not

stop. We had lunch on the go. We had a lot of musicians who came from

townships. We just stayed there 24 hours and kept making you sick. It

was a joy for me just to watch musicians working and creating. This

album comes from the heart. -- making music. My dad passed away

shortly before we made the album. It sounds fantastic what I have heard

and I look forward to hearing more. When myself and Ruby Turner are

together, she says you are the most handsome bloke there is. The

womenfolk are chucking themselves at you. Is that difficult? Very

difficult! I hate what that is like. Are you going to marry her? Yes!
