multiplatinum artist who is about to start her second great role in a

It's your second, Memphis is your new musical you are going to be in

set in Memphis. In short what is the story of it? Memphis in the 1950s.

It's about the difficult birth of rock and roll set against the Jim

Crow segregation of the South. I play a blues singer called Felicia

Farrell who is desperate to break out and be a big star but she has to

punch through race lines but falls in love with a white DJ who might be

the key to it all. It's more of a metaphor than based on reality about

how white music and blues music and the hillbillies and the blues all

gave birth to rock 'n' roll. We have a film here. It's been on in

America. Not with you, this is a bit of Memphis here.

That looks like it will be great. Who has written this? The text was

written by a very well-known scriptwriter. The songs words

written by David Brian, who you might be familiar with if you are

familiar with their band called Bon Jovi. He wrote all of those songs. I

love your Wolverhampton drawl. But did you go to Memphis and learn the

Memphis drawl? Yes, it's very different from Wolverhampton. I went

there not only to experience the place and immerse myself in the

character, but also so I could listen really carefully to how

people spoke. And basically just mimic the drawl, specifically the

African American way of speaking. It's different in that part of the

world. And what happened when you reverted to your Wolverhampton

drawl? They all said I can't understand a word you are saying.

They said that to me when I went! It is fantastic you could come and see

us this evening. We are looking forward to Memphis and on Friday
