This programme contains some strong language.

:00:00.:00:33.

APPLAUSE Yes, it is the 15th series, some 25

:00:34.:00:47.

years, but still filled with excitement, love and music.

:00:48.:00:52.

# But you got me walking circles like a dog on a lead

:00:53.:01:16.

# And the doctors say I'm crazy, that I'm eight miles thick

:01:17.:01:19.

# I'm like the taste of macaroni on a seafood stick

:01:20.:01:24.

# And you got me switched on, baby, like electric eel

:01:25.:01:28.

# And I'm tight with Axel Foley, that's just how I feel

:01:29.:01:32.

# Like a grapefruit and a magic trick, the prodigal son

:01:33.:01:36.

# I'm walking, I'm walking, I'm walking, I walk so quick

:01:37.:01:42.

# And there's nothing you can do about it

:01:43.:02:10.

# And there's nothing you can do about it

:02:11.:02:25.

# And reciting Charles Bukowski, I got nothing to lose

:02:26.:02:35.

# And I wait for you to follow me to share my chips

:02:36.:02:39.

# But you're walking, you're walking # You walk, you walk so quick

:02:40.:02:45.

# I stick around for the thousand yard stare

:02:46.:02:52.

# I'm never up, never down, down, down, down

:02:53.:03:00.

# And there's nothing you can do about it

:03:01.:03:14.

# And there's nothing you can do about it

:03:15.:03:30.

# Maybe this way we'll find a solution of problems

:03:31.:03:45.

# And there's nothing you can do about it

:03:46.:04:08.

# And there's nothing you can do about it

:04:09.:04:18.

:17:31.:17:38.

the show? 17 years old. Friday night. Coming home. It was like

:17:39.:17:49.

Cheech and Chong. I wonder how many people now aged 17 comeback from the

nearly 15 years. He is hiding. There he is.

:18:24.:18:37.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. . Since he has been on here, his tender has

:18:38.:18:43.

:18:44.:18:49.

record to the last one, it has a different vibration. We dusted the

The wonderful rock and roll sound of Kasabian.

:32:52.:33:00.

And Courtney Marie Andrews. It is our 25th birthday and we have done

:33:01.:33:06.

# I can tell you've kinda got uncomfortable

:45:03.:45:17.

# Don't call me, don't text me after 2am

:45:18.:45:26.

Thank you Thundercat! Friend Zone. Beautifully played. I am going to

:45:27.:47:15.

have more charts at the table, generously furnished with a great

:47:16.:47:20.

table laid with drinks and food, we welcome David Roderick.

:47:21.:47:25.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. And David Roderick, I have been listening to

:47:26.:47:29.

you for years because you're one of the first broadcasters who has

:47:30.:47:35.

championed and been a great lover of Jamaican music. When did you first

:47:36.:47:40.

fall in love with it? I fell in love with it in the 1960s at the age of

:47:41.:47:46.

16, I knew I was completely hooked. It was the summer of dump. It was

:47:47.:47:51.

just amazing. It was this scarlet fever that came in from Jamaica. It

:47:52.:47:56.

was the beat everyone was dancing to. We were like thousands of other

:47:57.:48:00.

people and I have been hooked ever since. I have been through the

:48:01.:48:06.

changes, roots and culture music and I have stayed with it because I have

:48:07.:48:11.

always loved it. It is one of my most favourite music styles. It is

:48:12.:48:18.

the elements, it is one of the best things. Where does the reggae music

:48:19.:48:23.

comes from? What are the elements? For me it is one of the most

:48:24.:48:28.

passionate music forms. It speaks out for impoverished people and

:48:29.:48:30.

speaks out against injustice and that is why it is revered around the

:48:31.:48:36.

world. Then you have the great love songs, the beautiful harmonies, the

:48:37.:48:42.

bands, like the whalers, we could go on. We have been talking about 50

:48:43.:48:47.

years of music, rolling back from the early 60s. In the book, you

:48:48.:48:51.

cover the history of that and your history. We have got a little bit of

:48:52.:49:02.

footage here of Burning Spear. I am a big fan of them. I remember buying

:49:03.:49:11.

the first album. It cost ?5. It was a Jamaican import and I played it in

:49:12.:49:15.

my bedsit and they knew every note of it and then in 1979 when I got a

:49:16.:49:20.

job on BBC Radio London I got the chance to go to Jamaica and my first

:49:21.:49:24.

weekend, I took a chance, there was no way of communicating, I knew that

:49:25.:49:30.

he lived in Saint Ann 's Bay and had built a community centre and I went

:49:31.:49:32.

up there and I hoped and prayed and on the Saturday morning,

:49:33.:49:45.

hanging around and waiting, he appeared. I got to interview Burning

:49:46.:49:48.

Spear. Excellent. # So do you remember the days of

:49:49.:49:50.

slavery? # So do you remember the days of

:49:51.:50:27.

slavery? APPLAUSE. Yes, Burning Spear. It is

:50:28.:50:36.

a Labour of love, this book. It is your life and the history of reggae

:50:37.:50:41.

music. What ultimately do you think it is that is special about reggae

:50:42.:50:46.

music? It touches your soul. It is as simple as that. For me, it has

:50:47.:50:53.

always touched my soul, it is passionate, it is beautifully made.

:50:54.:50:59.

It is a music to be revered. Thank you very much for joining us. His

:51:00.:51:09.

book is now out. Now, you heard her beautiful voice and one of her

:51:10.:51:13.

beautiful songs earlier, now let's hear and enjoy some more of Courtney

:51:14.:51:15.

Marie Andrews. # I just pulled

:51:16.:51:32.

into town an hour ago # I'm just waiting

:51:33.:51:45.

for the bar to open # I've been

:51:46.:52:00.

driving till I get tired # There is no telling

:52:01.:52:49.

which way this road bends # Hope you finally settle

:52:50.:53:04.

down in Washington #. # Coven up, let's be it,

:53:05.:53:23.

do it, celebrate it. # Make it burn, let's be it,

:53:24.:55:31.

do it, celebrate it. # Come on up, let's be it,

:55:32.:55:52.

do it, celebrate it. # Mirror, mirror,

:55:53.:56:43.

build the fire high. # Mirror, mirror, be

:56:44.:57:55.

the wild, the wild fire. The exquisitely talented Goldfrapp.

:57:56.:58:44.

Systemagic. Before that we enjoyed Courtney Marie Andries. And now

:58:45.:58:53.

let's round off this delightful evening and event with Kasabian.

:58:54.:59:07.

# You know my name, you know my name.

:59:08.:59:17.

# You are losing the plot. # It took you a lifetime to get

:59:18.:59:23.

where you got. If I had my way I would be king for

:59:24.:59:29.

the day. # All the while I am sorry, I am

:59:30.:59:38.

sorry it is by too late. # I heard it all before.

:59:39.:59:50.

# I don't have the time to listen to this.

:59:51.:59:52.

# I don't know what the point you have missed.

:59:53.:59:58.

Look what you have got. I don't care what they say.

:59:59.:00:12.

# We can demand, look into the world, look into the future.

:00:13.:00:20.

# Into the light, into the light. # Try tell your joke over and over.

:00:21.:00:30.

# The higher the mountain, the higher the climb.

:00:31.:00:39.
