:12:19.:12:22.

Thank you, Syd. All about me. I think, let's face it, if we were to

:12:23.:12:55.

look at a map, we would notice that for instant if we go to Jamaica, you

:12:56.:12:59.

think it has a particularly early on sand. New Orleans has a particularly

:13:00.:13:06.

brilliant distinct sound, and our next artist is from Cuba, also a

:13:07.:13:11.

place with a distinct sound. We now welcome Dayme Arocena.

:13:12.:13:12.

APPLAUSE # Maybe tomorrow

to keep my dreams inside me # But in this moment

:14:10.:14:15.

I know it's not in my hands # My heart is open,

I know it's not in my hands # My heart is open,

still it is an ocean # My mind is shining,

:15:31.:15:34.

the light is going far # My body's searching,

:15:35.:15:39.

my soul is always finding # I just want to love

:15:40.:15:46.

and feeling giving me my life # I just want to love

:15:47.:15:56.

and feeling giving me # I just want to love

:15:57.:16:06.

giving me my life #. CHEERING

:16:07.:16:38.

. Lovely sound, lovely musician,

:16:39.:16:45.

lovely singing, Dayme Arocena. So, I'd like to introduce, I like the

:16:46.:16:53.

word legend, and I like the word legend when it is applied to this

:16:54.:16:57.

person, the legendary Christine McVie! It is very good to get you on

:16:58.:17:07.

the show at last. You've got this record, which is a joint record, is

:17:08.:17:12.

that you how you would describe it, with Lindsey Buckingham? It didn't

:17:13.:17:18.

start to be anything particularly, but when I rejoined the band, we

:17:19.:17:24.

were just rehearsing and I had already sent some songs over to him,

:17:25.:17:29.

and he was just kind of working it in the studio, and we thought we

:17:30.:17:33.

would go in and put a couple of tracks, which we did. And did you

:17:34.:17:36.

get the other people from Fleetwood Mac to play on it? We were all there

:17:37.:17:41.

because we were rehearsing the tour, except for Stevie Nicks who was

:17:42.:17:48.

doing another project. We didn't have a plan, but without ultimately,

:17:49.:17:52.

why not splinter off and finish the record? It is a lot, almost a

:17:53.:17:59.

Fleetwood Mac record but not quite. It has some great songs, and you

:18:00.:18:01.

have everybody playing on the record? Do you enjoy the recording

:18:02.:18:12.

process? I love it, I prefer a touring, but I love recording, and I

:18:13.:18:22.

love working with Lindsey. With somebody like Lindsey Buckingham who

:18:23.:18:25.

you have worked with for many years, is it much easier to communicate? Do

:18:26.:18:29.

you have to not use Word so often because you know? Very often, I'm

:18:30.:18:34.

sure that applies to a lot of musicians, but me in particular with

:18:35.:18:36.

him, there isn't much talking going on. We have some singing here from

:18:37.:18:42.

you, let's look at this. # Take your time

:18:43.:18:51.

# To cross the line # All without a doubt

:18:52.:19:01.

# In my world everybody's dazed # Nobody wishes for what they

:19:02.:19:03.

couldn't say # Bless my soul

:19:04.:19:09.

# Singing in my world # In my world

:19:10.:19:15.

# Everybody's Gaze # Nobody wishes for what they

:19:16.:19:17.

couldn't say # Bless my soul

:19:18.:19:24.

# Dancer and a dreamer # Singing in my world...

:19:25.:19:30.

APPLAUSE Great sound there. Going back to the

:19:31.:19:37.

early part, what music was first heard? I didn't start as a singer, I

:19:38.:19:42.

was moreover keyboard player, and I was in a band called Chicken Shack,

:19:43.:19:55.

and I was encouraged by Mick who must've seen some singing in me. And

:19:56.:19:59.

you are inspired by the blues early on? Very much so, it was the 60s,

:20:00.:20:05.

and I was a blues player. A lot of American blues artists were coming

:20:06.:20:09.

to perform in England, and it caught on by many English blues bands that

:20:10.:20:15.

then followed, and I just got hooked on Freddie King, BB King, all the

:20:16.:20:21.

great guys, and I learned to play the blues from listening to their

:20:22.:20:26.

records. And Fleetwood Mac, who I believe might be going on tour next

:20:27.:20:30.

year? That is correct. They became one of the most successful bands in

:20:31.:20:34.

the world, played huge stadiums in the 70s and 80s, much as our

:20:35.:20:40.

wonderful guest Ed Sheeran is today. Any advice you would give to him?

:20:41.:20:46.

Stay on your own, Mate! APPLAUSE

:20:47.:20:51.

On that bombshell, that is all we need! Thank you for joining us,

:20:52.:21:01.

Christine McVie. It is wonderful to have you here.

:21:02.:21:04.

Our next artist is one of Britain's great singer-songwriters,

:21:05.:21:06.

He is celebrating 15 years of making music.

:21:07.:21:09.

# I passed the Mallard just the other day

:21:10.:21:45.

# I was riding a train, I was riding away

:21:46.:21:50.

# She's a picture from the age of steam

:21:51.:22:22.

# But it's farewell to the Mallard and you

:22:23.:22:32.

# Tea garden singer but we're just friends

:22:33.:23:08.

# He's driving me down to the band tonight

:23:09.:23:11.

# I'm driving down to the cold, cold sea

:23:12.:23:13.

# To see if the sea can make a change in me

:23:14.:23:19.

# I passed the Mallard just the other day

:23:20.:24:13.

# I was riding a train, I was riding away

:24:14.:24:18.

# So it's farewell to the Mallard and you

:24:19.:25:19.

Mallard, great steam train. Now we have a new duo, please pick it up

:25:20.:25:51.

for Marion hill. # But if you get me out,

:25:52.:26:01.

:26:02.:26:06.

bodies on the floor # So baby we should

:26:07.:26:09.

go and add some more # Down, d-d-down, d-d-down,

:26:10.:26:13.

d-d-down, down, down? # Everywhere I look

:26:14.:26:24.

are peoples' hands # Thrown up in the air

:26:25.:26:27.

to help them dance # I know you don't

:26:28.:26:30.

have any other plans # Down, d-d-down, d-d-down,

:26:31.:26:35.

d-d-down, down, down? # Down, down, d-d-down,

:26:36.:26:48.

down, d-down, down? # Are you down, are you down,

:26:49.:26:59.

are you d-d-down? # Down, down, d-d-down,

:27:00.:27:04.

down, d-down, down? # You know we could

:27:05.:27:16.

put them all to shame # Isn't this the reason

:27:17.:27:19.

why you came? # So, baby, don't

:27:20.:27:24.

you let it go to waste # Down, d-d-down, d-d-down,

:27:25.:27:27.

d-d-down, down, down? # Every single thing

:27:28.:27:38.

is feeling right # I don't really think

:27:39.:27:41.

that we should fight this # What if we don't

:27:42.:27:47.

stop until it's light? # Down, down, d-down, down?

:27:48.:27:49.

d-d-down, down, down? # Down, down, d-d-down,

:27:50.:28:07.

down, d-down, down? # Are you down, are you down,

:28:08.:28:12.

are you d-d-d-d-down, # Are you down, are you down,

:28:13.:28:15.

are you d-d-down, are you? # Down, down, d-d-down,

:28:16.:28:19.

down, d-down, down? # Are you, are you,

:28:20.:28:22.

are you d-d-down, down? # Down, down, d-d-down,

:28:23.:28:32.

down, d-down, down? # Are you down, are you down,

:28:33.:28:46.

are you d-d-d-d-down, # Are you down, are you down,

:28:47.:28:49.

are you d-d-down, are you? # Down, down, d-d-down,

down, d-down, down #. # Well, I could sing

:29:07.:29:09.

you a country tune # And carry the name

:29:10.:29:39.

sweet Valerie June # Well I could play you,

:29:40.:29:45.

play you the blues # And carry the name

:29:46.:30:10.

sweet Valerie June # Well I could play you,

:30:11.:30:17.

play you the blues # Said, I got soul

:30:18.:30:39.

and I got soul # Been tossed and tangled

:30:40.:31:04.

in search of what's good # And, I got soul

:31:05.:31:47.

yeah, I got sweet soul # And I got soul,

:31:48.:32:16.

yeah, I got sweet soul # Singing to you now,

:32:17.:32:31.

now, now, now, now # Talking to you now,

:32:32.:32:40.

now, now, now, now # And, I got soul,

:32:41.:32:55.

yeah, I got sweet soul # Said, I got soul

:32:56.:33:16.

and I got soul # Said, I got soul

:33:17.:33:26.

and I got soul CHEERING

:33:27.:33:37.

Thank you, Valerie June. Seoul. Before that we enjoyed Marian Hill.

:33:38.:34:13.

And now over at the end of the studio a man who has gone from

:34:14.:34:16.

strength to strength with his wonderful songs and he is going to

:34:17.:34:19.

do a song which he has never done before on the television and

:34:20.:34:24.

probably won't again. We are delighted to have with us now Ed

:34:25.:34:25.

Sheeran! CHEERING # I gave all my oxygen

:34:26.:34:33.

to people that could breathe # I gave away my money

:34:34.:34:37.

and now we don't even speak # I drove miles and miles,

:34:38.:34:43.

but would you do the same for me # I gave you my shoulder

:34:44.:34:49.

just for you to cry upon # Gave you constant shelter

:34:50.:35:06.

and a bed to keep you warm # They gave me the heartache

:35:07.:35:09.

and in return I gave a song # Life can get you down so I just

:35:10.:35:12.

numb the way it feels # I drown it with a drink

:35:13.:35:25.

and out-of-date prescription pills # And all the ones that love me,

:35:26.:35:30.

they just left me on the shelf # So before I save someone else,

:35:31.:35:36.

I've got to save myself # I gave you all my energy

:35:37.:35:50.

and I took away your pain # Cos human beings are destined

:35:51.:35:54.

to radiate or drain # Life can get you down so I just

:35:55.:36:01.

numb the way it feels # I drown it with a drink

:36:02.:36:17.

and out-of-date prescription pills # And all the ones that love me,

:36:18.:36:22.

they just left me on the shelf # So before I save someone else,

:36:23.:36:29.

I've got to save myself # But if I don't then I'll go back

:36:30.:36:36.

to where I'm rescuing a stranger # Just because they needed

:36:37.:36:48.

saving, just like that # Oh I'm here again,

:36:49.:36:53.

between the devil and the danger # My dad was wrong,

:36:54.:36:58.

cos I'm not like my mum # Cos she'd just smile

:36:59.:37:08.

and I'm complaining in a song # So before I save someone else,

:37:09.:37:13.

I've got to save myself # Life can get you down so I just

:37:14.:37:26.

numb the way it feels # Or drown it with a drink

:37:27.:37:31.

and out-of-date prescription pills # And all the ones that love me,

:37:32.:37:35.

they just left me on the shelf # And before I blame someone else,

:37:36.:37:42.

I've got to save myself # And before I love someone else,

:37:43.:38:03.

I've got to love myself #. What a great song, I hope you caught

:38:04.:38:29.

that, he might not do it again. Thank you, Ed Sheeran, with Save

:38:30.:38:42.

Myself from the album Divide. What a talented fellow. Let's come up to

:38:43.:38:46.

this end of the room, how are you doing? CHEERING

:38:47.:38:49.

You are looking beautiful and in the middle of you is the incredible

:38:50.:38:51.

talent that is Syd! # Keep it between us,

:38:52.:39:08.

can't let 'em see us # It'll be our secret,

:39:09.:39:30.

don't wanna get caught creeping # Is it really cheating,

:39:31.:39:33.

who says we're cheating # If we had a little more time

:39:34.:39:37.

I'd take it slow babe # You can stay till the morning,

:39:38.:40:18.

when we wake up jump on it # It's the way that you flaunt it,

:40:19.:40:22.

lets me know that you want it # Keep it secret baby,

:40:23.:40:25.

they don't have to know # No more pictures baby,

:40:26.:41:05.

put away your phone # Let 'em wonder what

:41:06.:41:09.

we do when we're alone # Cos you know how I like it, babe,

:41:10.:41:12.

let's do this in private baby # Water still rising,

:41:13.:41:16.

no sign of a storm # The sun don't shine

:41:17.:43:19.

to keep us warm. # I sent a prayer,

:43:20.:43:24.

:45:50.:46:35.

Drive. . Before but was Syd. And now I scoot up here to talk to the very

:46:36.:46:45.

talented Ed Sheeran. Up at this end of the room with the Internet, that

:46:46.:46:50.

is a complimentary gift from us! I love that song you played before,

:46:51.:47:01.

where did that come from? With Labyrinth, and another girl called

:47:02.:47:07.

Amy, and it was really late in the album, we had nearly finished, Amy

:47:08.:47:10.

just came to stay and the song just happened. I have to say

:47:11.:47:15.

congratulations from the whole studio, a round of applause, because

:47:16.:47:20.

you have a phenomenal success, 18 songs in the top 20. In the old

:47:21.:47:25.

days, you would have done every song! Element do you guys want Top

:47:26.:47:39.

Of The Pops back? To watch! I feel like it is pretty much the only

:47:40.:47:50.

thing on TV. SCREAM what was that about?

:47:51.:47:55.

I find I'm stepping back from reading things, there are two

:47:56.:48:00.

extremes, people either really love you all really hate you, there isn't

:48:01.:48:05.

anything in the middle, and I think sanity lies in the middle, so I am

:48:06.:48:08.

staying away from both. And you can't believe anything you read in

:48:09.:48:12.

the papers, particularly about yourself. Unless they say he is a

:48:13.:48:18.

saint and a genius. If you read stuff like that, you turn into an

:48:19.:48:25.

egotistical maniac, but also there are people who say that you are the

:48:26.:48:30.

worst person ever. You took a year's break. That was brilliant. Weren't

:48:31.:48:36.

there are a lot of people saying, you can't take a break, we need you

:48:37.:48:43.

for this, for that. We had been touring for five years straight, and

:48:44.:48:46.

none of us had taken a break, so it came to a point where some of the

:48:47.:48:50.

people I toured with wanted to work with people different, and I just

:48:51.:48:55.

wanted to take the time, now I never want to stop touring, the year of

:48:56.:49:00.

the Meireles how lucky we are. You are a bit like me in that, I don't

:49:01.:49:05.

have an e-mail, you don't have a mobile phone. Do you think that is

:49:06.:49:10.

the way forward with communication? For communication, no, but going

:49:11.:49:14.

back to the sanity thing, it is. It is to do with being bored and just

:49:15.:49:18.

going online and reading things. I needed to get away from reading what

:49:19.:49:21.

people thought about me, because it doesn't work well. Plus I wanted to

:49:22.:49:27.

step away from being contactable at all times. If someone really, really

:49:28.:49:32.

needs to get in contact with you, they will find a way. Does anyone

:49:33.:49:38.

have WhatsApp? You know when you can see when someone has read it, that

:49:39.:49:44.

drives people's mental, if you read it and haven't replied, if I put it

:49:45.:49:48.

in my pocket, people go mental because you haven't replied. How

:49:49.:49:54.

dare you? Element anyway e-mails me, there is a thing that goes out and

:49:55.:49:57.

says, I might not reply to this, and then people are fine. If they e-mail

:49:58.:50:03.

me, they wouldn't even get that! What is your next song that you will

:50:04.:50:05.

play for us? from Northern Island and every time

:50:06.:50:12.

I see their name somebody whips. We wrote this song called Galway

:50:13.:50:29.

Girl, I'm a big fan of theirs, they are touring the country is doing

:50:30.:50:32.

Glastonbury, you should check them out. It is wonderful to have you

:50:33.:50:36.

here as a guest, and you might want to chat to Christine who says, stay

:50:37.:50:40.

on your own! Have you got anything to say to her? I really like your

:50:41.:50:46.

staff! Wonderful to have you here, thank

:50:47.:50:51.

you, Ed Sheeran! APPLAUSE

:50:52.:51:00.

So now the vibrations are back, and we welcome Valerie June.

MAMBO AND JAZZ BLENDED WITH AN AFRO-CUBAN PERCUSSION BEAT.

:54:05.:54:46.

Dayme Arocena, the lovely Cuban sound. Nystrom is, nice piano, nice

:54:47.:57:40.

singing. Before that we enjoyed Valerie June. And now, joined by

:57:41.:57:50.

Beoga, we are lucky to have with us, Ed Sheeran.

:57:51.:57:57.

# You know, she played the fiddle in an Irish band

:57:58.:58:00.

# But she fell in love with an English man

:58:01.:58:02.

# Kissed her on the neck and then I took her by the hand

:58:03.:58:06.

# I met her on Grafton street right outside of the bar

:58:07.:58:09.

# She shared a cigarette with me while her brother played the guitar

:58:10.:58:12.

# She asked me what does it mean, the Gaelic ink on your arm?

:58:13.:58:15.

# Said it was one of my friend's songs, do you want to drink on?

:58:16.:58:19.

# She took Jamie as a chaser, Jack for the fun

:58:20.:58:21.

# She got Arthur on the table with Johnny riding a shotgun

:58:22.:58:24.

# Chatted some more, one more drink at the bar

:58:25.:58:26.

# Then put Van on the jukebox, got up to dance

:58:27.:58:29.

# You know, she played the fiddle in an Irish band

:58:30.:58:32.

# But she fell in love with an English man

:58:33.:58:34.

# Kissed her on the neck and then I took her by the hand

:58:35.:58:37.

# Said, "Baby, I just want to dance" with my pretty little Galway Girl

:58:38.:58:41.

# You're my pretty little Galway Girl.

:58:42.:58:43.

# You know she beat me at darts and then she beat me at pool

:58:44.:58:47.

# And then she kissed me like there was nobody else in the room

:58:48.:58:50.

# As last orders were called was when she stood on the stool

:58:51.:58:54.

# After dancing the ceilidh singing to trad tunes

:58:55.:58:56.

# I never heard Carrickfergus ever sung so sweet

:58:57.:58:58.

# Acapella in the bar using her feet for a beat

:58:59.:59:01.

# Oh, I could have that voice playing on repeat for a week

:59:02.:59:04.

# And in this packed out room swear she was singing to me

:59:05.:59:07.

# You know, she played the fiddle in an Irish band

:59:08.:59:10.

# But she fell in love with an English man

:59:11.:59:12.

# Kissed her on the neck and then I took her by the hand

:59:13.:59:15.

# My, my, my, my, my, my, my Galway Girl

:59:16.:59:30.

# And now we've outstayed our welcome and it's closing time

:59:31.:59:33.

# I was holding her hand, her hand was holding mine

:59:34.:59:36.

# Our coats both smell of smoke, whisky and wine

:59:37.:59:38.

# As we fill up our lungs with the cold air of the night

:59:39.:59:41.

# I walked her home then she took me inside

:59:42.:59:44.

# To finish some Doritos and another bottle of wine

:59:45.:59:46.

# I swear I'm gonna put you in a song that I write

:59:47.:59:49.

# About a Galway Girl and a perfect night

:59:50.:59:51.

# She played the fiddle in an Irish band

:59:52.:59:54.

# But she fell in love with an English man

:59:55.:59:56.

# Kissed her on the neck and then I took her by the hand

:59:57.:59:59.

# My, my, my, my, my, my, my Galway Girl #.
