And welcome to the Caird Hall in Dundee

for the BBC Proms Last Night Celebrations in Scotland.

We have a great show coming up for you tonight,

with some of the world's finest musicians and singers joining us on the stage.

Already onstage, we have the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra,

guest-led tonight by Helena Wood.

Hot-footing it fresh from the West End

we have one of the country's best-loved singers, Alfie Boe,

and one of Scotland's most successful singer-songwriters, Fran Healy,

is going to be performing with the BBC SSO for the first time.

And from Orkney, one of the brightest new talents

on the traditional music scene,

BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year

Kristan Harvey will also be playing with the orchestra.

And behind me, looking resplendent as you can see,

we have our very own Dundee Proms Chorus.

They have been brought together just to perform for us tonight.

They haven't performed in public before,

so we will be hearing their debut performance

-in just a few moments' time.

-We've got some superb pieces for you -

everything from show tunes to Shostakovich.

It's a real celebration of music of all kinds.

And to lead us, and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra

through this evening, please welcome our conductor, Stephen Bell!

getting us off to a great start with the Festival Overture

by Shostakovich, first heard at the Bolshoi in Moscow in 1954.

Now to meet our first soloist of the evening. Are you ready?

-AUDIENCE:

-Yes!

He is rather good, I can tell you.

Legend has it that he only joined the local amateur operatic society

because his sister told him it was a good place to meet girls.

-That's why we do it!

-Bear that in mind.

He was also spotted by a talent scout who heard him singing

while he was at work in the local car factory.

Well, the car factory's loss is certainly our gain

because he is now regarded as one of the finest tenor voices

in the world.

That was, of course, a medley of some of the best James Bond themes,

our own tribute to the late, great John Barry.

In the summer we announced that once again we'd be forming

the Dundee Proms Chorus. Now, this is a choir of all ages,

all abilities and experience. We don't have any auditions -

we just ask that they come along to the rehearsals

and sing their heart out, which they absolutely do,

but tonight the rehearsals are over. They are about to sing for you, for the very first time.

Remember, this group have not sung in public before.

So, performing Verdi's Chorus Of The Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco,

with Stephen Bell, I give you the Dundee Proms Chorus.

I'd like to introduce you to the next of our fantastic soloists.

Kristan Harvey started playing the violin at the age of nine in her home in Orkney.

This early start paid off, because earlier this year, she was handed the title

BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year.

one of the most successful Scottish singer-songwriters of this generation.

He's had a string of hits with his band, Travis,

including our other national anthem.

And also, he's had great critical acclaim with his solo album, Recorder.
