Hello there and welcome to the final show from a fantastic weekend

0:00:260:00:30

of live music at Reading 2011 and the last thing we are going to

0:00:300:00:36

share with you is our incredible headlines. The headliners all

0:00:360:00:40

weekend have been fantastic. My Chemical Romance were joined by

0:00:400:00:45

Brian May on stage on Friday, it was a brilliant set. We can't

0:00:450:00:52

forget about the Strokes who were fantastic, Jarvis Koblger got his

0:00:520:00:56

bump and grind on. The old snake hips. You are going to see the

0:00:560:01:01

mighty Muse. But before that, let's have a look back at Muse over the

0:01:010:01:11
0:01:110:01:26

years, this is their story. -- It all started in south Devon in

0:01:260:01:32

the early 90s where the future members of Muse met at college. Not

0:01:320:01:37

put off by Matt Bellamy's dress sense, he was spotted playing

0:01:370:01:41

guitar. About here where that brown patch is, is where me and Matt met

0:01:410:01:45

and I asked him to join my band. Persuading their mate Chris to join

0:01:450:01:50

them on the bass they formed a trio. Winning a local Battle of The bands

0:01:500:01:53

competition in 1994 convinced the lads they were on to something good.

0:01:530:01:59

Now they just needed a decent name. So gothic Plague and Fixed Penalty

0:01:590:02:02

gave way to Muse. Their early EPs were creating a

0:02:020:02:08

buzz here and across the pond, even the Queen of pop herself was a fan.

0:02:080:02:14

Madonna offered us a million quid then we gave up our day job! Debut

0:02:140:02:19

album show bisz arrived in 99, the same year they played Reading for

0:02:190:02:23

the first time -- showbiz. The following summer, the lads

0:02:230:02:28

headlined Reading's second stage and got a slot on Glastonbury's

0:02:280:02:36

other stage. Their second album, Origin of Symmetry stormed to the

0:02:360:02:43

charts in 200 1 and included Plug in Baby, their massive hit. The

0:02:430:02:48

album saw a change in direction for the band. We found our identity on

0:02:480:02:52

the last tour. Some of it is more uplifting I think, not so sort of I

0:02:520:02:56

hate the world type, a little bit more thought out than that I think.

0:02:560:03:02

As they moved up the chart, they moved up the bill at 2002's Reading

0:03:020:03:10

Festival. The next two albums Absolution and

0:03:100:03:15

Revelations saw the band graduate to global heavyweights. And in the

0:03:150:03:19

summer of 2006, the band fulfilled the dream when they headlined

0:03:190:03:28

Reading Festival for the first time. The gigs just came together,

0:03:280:03:31

everything was just bang on and you've got to bear in mind I used

0:03:310:03:35

to come here when I was a kid. I was looking at the crowd and

0:03:350:03:38

getting such a vibe, there are bands out there from the future you

0:03:380:03:41

know. Having realised their dream, the lads returned to where it began

0:03:410:03:50

for a special home-coming gig in 2009. More than 2,000 rock fans

0:03:500:03:53

queued to get tickets to see local group Muse.

0:03:530:04:01

Hot on the heels of their area, the band released their album which

0:04:010:04:06

went to number one in several countries. They returned and were

0:04:060:04:16
0:04:160:04:17

joined by a special guest. They are without doubt the power trio of

0:04:170:04:21

their generation. Fine praise indeed.

0:04:210:04:24

Not content with conquering this planet, this year, the band

0:04:240:04:29

announced plans to play a gig in space. But before that, Reading

0:04:290:04:38

Festival. Welcome back the simply out of this world Muse! This is the

0:04:380:04:41

moment that we've all been waiting for. We spoke to Matt and Dom

0:04:410:04:45

earlier on and they seemed really excited off the back of playing a

0:04:450:04:52

great set at Leeds, it all ends here, Reading sorry. This is the

0:04:520:04:56

moment we've all been waiting for. There's going to be flame throwers

0:04:560:05:00

and a lot of lasers and a lot of songs that you are going to

0:05:000:05:06

absolutely love. This is all summer celebration of their album Origin

0:05:060:05:11

of similar metry and you are going to hear so many beautiful songs --

1:19:131:19:41

you're amazing. Thank you. See you The mighty Muse. Whenever you see

1:19:411:19:47

them live it is less than a gig, it is more of a visual experience. It

1:19:471:19:52

was a beautiful gig. We are asking you to get in touch on line. There

1:19:521:19:59

is Facebook as well as that. Get in touch via Twitter.

1:19:591:20:05

It's only taken me all weekend. Only one hour left of the show.

1:20:051:20:11

Quite a few of you have got in touch on Twitter saying you are

1:20:111:20:15

disappointed we have not shown the entire Muse set. They did not feel

1:20:151:20:18

ready to show all the songs from that set, given they have not

1:20:181:20:23

played them for a long time. I hope you agree, what we did show was

1:20:231:20:28

awesome. It was a thoroughly enjoyable show. We will show you a

1:20:281:20:32

huge chunk of the Streets. This is their last summer of festivals,

1:20:321:20:37

playing as a band. It is something worth waiting around for. Now we

1:20:371:20:42

have something special. It is lovely. As a lot of the crowd make

1:20:421:20:49

their way back, we have a nice acoustic set from the lovely Ed

2011 here on BBC Three. We have been talking about this all show.

1:25:251:25:29

Can I say something, I need to do a warning at some point, there will

1:25:291:25:33

be strobing and bad language on the way. I want to get that out there

1:25:331:25:37

now. I panicked. Look, I have been looking forward to this pretty much

1:25:381:25:42

all day. It's their last summer of festivals. This is The Streets and

1:25:421:25:46

remember, there might be some strobing and some bad language.

# Her eyes glaze over like she's looking at me

1:26:271:26:33

# It seems like an eternity # When she opens them up

Touch the bottom of her chin and let out a sigh

1:26:591:27:02

Cos I can't imagine my life without you and me

There's things I can't imagine doin' Things I can't imagine seein'

1:27:051:27:09

She pulls away, my arms are tightly clamped round her waist

1:28:341:28:37

Gently pushes me back and she looks at me straight

1:28:371:28:40

Turns around so she's now got her back to my face

# Your eyes locked onto my course

1:34:181:34:21

# I couldn't concentrate on what I wanted to order

huge chunk of that. If that is to be believed that will be the last

1:42:031:42:09

time they perform here at Reading. It was a historic moment. It looked

1:42:091:42:14

very sweetie but excellent. Greg has hung out with us all weekend.

1:42:331:42:39

We'll look at some of the wonderful performances, War Paint, who are a

1:42:391:42:44

great band. I would like to be friends with those girls and hang

1:42:441:42:50

out with them. They are the coolest ever. They performed at 5pm this

1:42:501:42:54

afternoon. You are a big fan of their album. I think I spotted one

1:42:541:43:02

of them. I saw on her badge it said "War Paint." Did you risk it and go,
