feel so dark alone guy at the front there. Maverick

:12:39.:13:25.

Sabre from earlier on today. More music from here in a second. He's

:13:26.:13:28.

here, let's chat. Welcome to our tree house. Thank you for having me.

:13:29.:13:32.

A beautiful view you've got from up here so thank you for having me. How

:13:33.:13:39.

was your set, your Reading debut? I loved it. You can tell that the

:13:40.:13:45.

crowd you know, are based off a heavy kind of rock foundation from

:13:46.:13:49.

the past, even though they are quite a young crowd, they don't remember

:13:50.:13:53.

that past, they are still loud and excited. As you can tell by the

:13:54.:13:59.

screaming. Let it loose, release it! You were saying they are constantly

:14:00.:14:04.

on the verge of moshing? Yes, they are a young crowd but probably don't

:14:05.:14:09.

remember the days when it was pure rock festivals, it's excitable and a

:14:10.:14:13.

blessing to perform in front of a crowd like that. It's a rarity.

:14:14.:14:17.

There is a lot babies and kids here today. I saw a couple with the

:14:18.:14:24.

little ear must haves on. Glad they started off young -- ear muffs.

:14:25.:14:31.

Glastonbury have yummy mummies going through the mud with their buggies

:14:32.:14:36.

going, we have to get there before it starts. I saw a few babies. In

:14:37.:14:42.

terms of you and the album, we have had a few tracks and it's got Ain't

:14:43.:14:47.

Nobody on there. When is the album out? Should be out early next year

:14:48.:14:53.

hopefully. I've been away for a year-and-a-half, two years. I wanted

:14:54.:14:57.

to take time to experience life and not write songs about being in the

:14:58.:15:01.

back of a cab on the way to a show or on a tour bus, I wanted to

:15:02.:15:04.

experience life and not cheat my fans, you know. I always hike to

:15:05.:15:09.

give my full heart and soul in every bit of music I ever put out and yes,

:15:10.:15:14.

I feel like I've achieved that and understood myself a lot more. I've

:15:15.:15:18.

grown and learned a lot more about myself. While you were away, were

:15:19.:15:23.

you travelling, seeing the world or sat at home on the PlayStation? No,

:15:24.:15:29.

I did quite a lot of travelling, India, South Africa. A friend of

:15:30.:15:34.

mine brought me out there to work on a project out there which changed my

:15:35.:15:38.

life. I spent a bit of time in Jamaica recording and spent a bit of

:15:39.:15:47.

time in New York recording as well. I recorded with someone who is

:15:48.:15:57.

on-the-record who I met in New York. I was in New York with Idris Elba.

:15:58.:16:07.

Some nice friends to have. Yes, Idris Elba is doing an album himself

:16:08.:16:14.

in homage to studying Mandela because he played Mandela in a movie

:16:15.:16:18.

and spent a lot of time in South Africa and around Johannesburg so he

:16:19.:16:24.

brought me and Mr Hodgson out there, to work with South African

:16:25.:16:29.

musicians. Really, it was to write a record to pay homage to the South

:16:30.:16:32.

African people, the homage, the culture, the spirit, Mandela himself

:16:33.:16:36.

and what Idris learnt being out there. It was a spiritual awakening

:16:37.:16:42.

for me. If anyone's worked ever with South African musicians, the purity

:16:43.:16:46.

is something I can't explain as a musician and opened my eyes to a

:16:47.:16:49.

lotthings. You are taking your time with the new record which is a good

:16:50.:16:53.

thing with experiencing these new things. Is it daunting to come to a

:16:54.:16:57.

new festival for you and, when you walk out from the wings hoping

:16:58.:17:00.

people will be there for you, because you have been away for a

:17:01.:17:03.

while and not released an album so it must be daunting to be thinking,

:17:04.:17:10.

oh, will there be anyone there. The weirdest experience was coming back

:17:11.:17:13.

after two years and playing new song force the first time. For the first

:17:14.:17:18.

record ah lot of the songs I'd be playing for years, I'd been

:17:19.:17:21.

performing since I was 13 and 14 years of age in Ireland so we were

:17:22.:17:24.

well trained before the first album came out and doing the songs off

:17:25.:17:29.

that record. It was daunting to come out and do first material but I'm

:17:30.:17:32.

very blessed and honoured that the crowd came out like they did today

:17:33.:17:37.

and at Leeds on Friday. Massive crowd. It was brilliant.

:17:38.:17:40.

Let's take a look at two more songs from you. With flashing lights,

:17:41.:17:42.

thank you, Maverick Sabre. MUSIC:

:17:43.:18:27.

# And them people that would doubt me

:23:15.:23:17.

# And all them girls that I used to see running round

the Radio 1 NME stage. That was Maverick Sabre. We have a very

:24:10.:25:51.

special treat for you tonight. The first acoustic performance of

:25:52.:25:53.

Sunday, ladies and gentlemen of the tree house, make some noise for the

:25:54.:25:59.

1975, well, two of them! Gentlemen! All good?

:26:00.:26:06.

Talking to me? I can't even hear you. Take it away!

:26:07.:26:09.

One, two, three... # Bite your face to spite your nose

:26:10.:26:39.

# 17 and a half years old # Worrying about my brother finding

:26:40.:26:41.

out # What's the none in doing what

:26:42.:26:50.

you're told? # I said "no"!

:26:51.:26:57.

# Oh, give it a rest, I could persuade you

:26:58.:27:00.

# I'm not your typical stoned 18-year-old

:27:01.:27:03.

# Give me a night I'll make you # I know you're looking for

:27:04.:27:07.

salvation in secular age # But girl I'm not your saviour

:27:08.:27:13.

# Wrestle to the ground # God help me now

:27:14.:27:17.

# Because they're just girls breaking hearts

:27:18.:27:21.

# Eyes bright, uptight, just girls # But she can't be what you need if

:27:22.:27:27.

she's 17 # They're just girls

:27:28.:27:31.

They're just girls # A pair of frozen hands to hold,

:27:32.:27:39.

# Oh, she's so southern so she feels the cold,

:27:40.:27:43.

# One moment I was tearing off your blouse,

:27:44.:27:46.

# Now you're living in my house # What happened to just messing

:27:47.:27:56.

around? # I said "you, I think you better

:27:57.:28:02.

go, I can't take you" # You just sit and get stoned with

:28:03.:28:06.

30-year-olds and you think you've made it

:28:07.:28:09.

# Well shouldn't you be with somebody your own age

:28:10.:28:15.

# Instead of making changes? # Wrestle to the ground

:28:16.:28:22.

# God help me now because # They're just girls breaking hearts

:28:23.:28:27.

# Eyes bright, uptight, just girls # But she can't be what you need if

:28:28.:28:32.

she's 17 # They're just girls

:28:33.:28:40.

# Yes, they're just girls Thank you.

:28:41.:29:16.

APPLAUSE I love that song acoustic. Thanks! I

:29:17.:29:21.

love it! Can you hear me over there? Vaguely. It's noisy, I do apologise

:29:22.:29:25.

for the lack of glass. It's quite nice.

:29:26.:29:30.

It's a nice breeze through. How are you? Nice to see you. Hi, Jen. High,

:29:31.:29:35.

are you all right? Yes. How was Leeds? Mental. It was manic. We are

:29:36.:29:44.

expecting the same thing I think. But yes, Leeds as well, northern

:29:45.:29:50.

crowd! You are on in about an hour's time. I know. What time is it? 7.

:29:51.:29:56.

30ish so you are on in an hour. What are the pre-match warm-ups? What do

:29:57.:29:59.

you do before you go on? Do you have a huddle? We do an intimate touch of

:30:00.:30:06.

each other's hair and recreate scenes from films like Ghost and

:30:07.:30:11.

stuff like that! Just to setsle in before we go on. Greg and I do a

:30:12.:30:17.

similar thing. We do. I'm excited for tonight. Thank you for coming to

:30:18.:30:20.

the tree house and have a great show. 1975, everybody!

They made the BBC sound list. Very exciting act I would say. Had a very

:35:23.:35:30.

good time by the looks of it on the stage earlier today.

good time by the looks of it on the stage earlier today. Loads of people

I've got a message saying, I should be at Reading Festival but I'm not

We'll do that straight after the performance from earlier on today.

There is some strobing! # Never said any of this

a couple of movements ow main stage earlier on and we have

:48:37.:49:16.

them for an interview, well two of them. Welcome. Thank you so much for

:49:17.:49:19.

coming up here. How you doing? Pretty good. Last year was your

:49:20.:49:23.

first Reading in the dance tent. How did it compare to today? They were

:49:24.:49:30.

completely mad, like we had moshing during our second song today and

:49:31.:49:36.

last year as well. We played a song called UK shanty that no-one really

:49:37.:49:40.

knows because it was never released as a single but there was a big

:49:41.:49:43.

Moshe pit. There is not enough Moshing to vie Lynnses, not enough,

:49:44.:49:48.

it's good to see! I like it when, I don't know the name of your band

:49:49.:49:53.

mate, when he plays it like a little guitar. Yes. Your set earlier was

:49:54.:49:59.

insane. The tent was completely rammed. The outskirts became

:50:00.:50:03.

completely rammed and we had to move out of the tent just to be able to

:50:04.:50:07.

dance. Cool. Could you tell how packed it was, seas of people coming

:50:08.:50:11.

in and finding a way to stream into your pit? Yes. It was scary looking

:50:12.:50:17.

out and you see it and it's a huge Hoared of people but it's exciting

:50:18.:50:23.

as well. Obviously it was the dream to as big and as popular but did you

:50:24.:50:29.

imagine this so soon? No. It doesn't feel that soon. We got together like

:50:30.:50:36.

six years ago. We've been working together since then. The soonness

:50:37.:50:43.

doesn't feel that short. We never expected to go to number one or be

:50:44.:50:49.

in the pop charts at all really. Did you think you would ever play a

:50:50.:50:53.

festival like Reading? I don't know. I'd never expected to be doing

:50:54.:50:58.

anything like this at this stage. It's amazing. Did you guys go to

:50:59.:51:04.

festivals when you were growing up, Reading or Leeds? I went to

:51:05.:51:08.

Glastonbury when I was 16. That was my first festival. Yes, me too. We

:51:09.:51:12.

were there at the same time but didn't know each other then. You

:51:13.:51:17.

came to my attention a couple of years ago when I heard the song A

:51:18.:51:21.

and I fell in love with the video and thought, who is this, what is

:51:22.:51:25.

this, it's very different. It was your aim obviously to do something

:51:26.:51:28.

different with pop music and it seems to have gone very, very well.

:51:29.:51:34.

The success of Rather Be, did you ever think, that's a good one, when

:51:35.:51:37.

you wrote that one? It's interesting. One of the first times

:51:38.:51:43.

we played that was at Reading here, we'd been playing it live before we

:51:44.:51:48.

recorded it properly, we were testing it out and I think yes one

:51:49.:51:52.

of the reactions was at Reading and Leeds last year, we thought, oh,

:51:53.:51:56.

yeah, this one is going down quite well, let's record it.

:51:57.:52:03.

Understatement of the year! The song that knocked Pharrell's Happy off

:52:04.:52:07.

the charts. What is coming up next? You have been on the road for for

:52:08.:52:14.

ever? Yes, just more and more. We've got Ibiza rocks this week, then we

:52:15.:52:18.

are off to the States for a month. Then a UK tour and then a European

:52:19.:52:23.

Tour. How is it going in the States, as well as it is here? Yes, it's

:52:24.:52:29.

cool I think. We are getting random updates. Rather Bewas number one on

:52:30.:52:36.

the Shazam charts a couple of weeks ago. It's number four in iTunes or

:52:37.:52:41.

something like that now. Yeah, we are doing our first tour there in

:52:42.:52:48.

September and it's quite exciting. We've been to New York and LA before

:52:49.:52:53.

but nowhere else. We are going to go to San Francisco and Portland and

:52:54.:52:58.

loads places. Amazing. Long may it continue because I'm a big fan and I

:52:59.:53:01.

think it's a really refreshing change to pop music and all the very

:53:02.:53:10.

best! Thank you so much. Thank you. You've been Tweeting while playing?

:53:11.:53:15.

Yes. We have one more song from your set so it feels great to finish off

:53:16.:53:21.

with Rather Be with flashing imagery.

:53:22.:53:31.

# We're a thousand miles from comfort

:53:32.:53:35.

# But as long as you are with me, there's no place I rather be

:53:36.:53:47.

# I would wait forever, exulted in the scene

:53:48.:53:54.

# As long as I am with you, my heart continues to beat

:53:55.:54:03.

# With every step we take, Kyoto to The Bay

:54:04.:54:07.

# We're different and the same, gave you another name

:54:08.:54:15.

# If you gave me a chance I would take it

:54:16.:54:23.

# It's a shot in the dark but I'll make it

:54:24.:54:27.

# Know with all of your heart, you can't shame me

:54:28.:54:30.

# When I am with you, there's no place I rather be

:54:31.:54:35.

# N-n-n-no, no, no, no place I rather be

:54:36.:54:39.

# N-n-n-no, no, no, no place I rather be

:54:40.:54:50.

# We staked out on a mission to find our inner peace

:54:51.:54:58.

# Make it everlasting so nothing's incomplete

:54:59.:55:06.

# It's easy being with you, sacred simplicity

:55:07.:55:14.

# As long as we're together, there's no place I rather be

:55:15.:55:22.

# With every step we take, Kyoto to The Bay

:55:23.:55:26.

# We're different and the same, gave you another name

:55:27.:55:34.

# If you gave me a chance I would take it

:55:35.:55:42.

# It's a shot in the dark but I'll make it

:55:43.:55:46.

# Know with all of your heart, you can't shame me

:55:47.:55:50.

# When I am with you, there's no place I rather be

:55:51.:55:54.

# N-n-n-no, no, no, no place I rather be

:55:55.:56:02.

# When I am with you, there's no place I rather be

:56:03.:56:21.

# Yeah-e-yeah-e-yeah-e-yeah-e-yeah, yeah, yeah

:56:22.:56:26.

# If you gave me a chance I would take it

:56:27.:56:29.

# It's a shot in the dark but I'll make it

:56:30.:56:37.

# N-n-n-no, no, no, no place I there's no place I rather be

:56:38.:56:49.

# N-n-n-no, no, no, no place I rather be. #

Clean Bandit on the Radio 1 NME stage. I spat then. The house that

:57:05.:57:31.

bought them all a new house. A song. Kenny says got goose bumps watching

:57:32.:57:37.

them, wish I was there. A text from my mum, really like Clean Bandit.

Like in capitals, emphasis on like from Lesley Long. There you go. Emmy

says I love Clean Bandit and everyone else. I think my heart

might explode. We are back in a few minutes with You Me At Six and Saint

:57:57.:58:05.

of sport. Man United are still looking

:58:06.:58:10.

for their first Premier League win Jack Rodwell headed

:58:11.:58:12.

in the Sunderland equaliser. Stoke were helped by goal line

:58:13.:58:20.

technology in the early kick-off.
