Highlights: Day 1 T in the Park

Hallo, good evening and welcome to T In The Park from the picturesque

sass -- Strathallan Castle. We are with you all over the weekend on BBC

Scotland and BBC 4, bringing you the best of the festival. We are

backstage in the artist area. I will show you more of that through the

weekend. We have a lovely selection of music coming up from the likes of

Disclosure, Alesso, Frightened Rabbit and Bear's Den, to name a

few. Let's start with a bad return to T In The Park for their sixth

time. -- let's start with a band returning. They played at King Tut's

Inside the fear machine. # One of the things I love about The

Coral is you can always expect a bit of drama on stage when they play a

festival. They finally got round to releasing a new album after six

years. It came out earlier this year and it's fantastic. The Coral

nailing it earlier at King Tut's. If you would like to see more highlight

over the weekend, we will be feeding the website and the iPlayer as we

get things in, so check it out. We will put performances are as and

when we get them. There will be loads up there as we get through the

had no idea there were so many members of Bear's Den, but they were

wonderful earlier on today on the King Tut's stage live at the huge

blue tent. It is my first time at this site, the second time T In The

Park has been held here at Strathallan Castle, overlooked by

this wonderful castle. I spent a lot of time wandering round, getting my

bearings. There is loads of space. We are surrounded by a wonderful

forest, overlooked by this Castle. It's beautiful and it feels like

there is loads of space for everyone. Hopefully we can give you

an idea of that through the weekend, bringing you as many performances as

physically possible. Now we are going head to the main stage and a

man who is no stranger T In The Park. I remember doing something

with them on Radio 1 where I was persuaded, blackmail, I don't know

what the right word is, to try and do the Ne;lly Furtado part of this

Amazing. Much better job than anyone else could have done there. I'm now

joined by Scott and Grant from Frightened Rabbit, thanks for coming

in. Thanks for having us. I went round to what you in the buggy early

on. We had a short window of opportunity, it was like, got to

watch them. T in the Park is a special one for you. You came here

as music fans before, didn't you? First weekend I was here I saw Fun

Lovin Criminals, who are here tonight. Stereophonics. Yeah, it's a

really special festival, you know. I remember finding a little bottle of

beer and opening it against a fence, sharing the study. Drinking beer?

No, ma'am, I wasn't drinking beer. She's going to be disappointed.

She'll be chuffed to get a mention. Congratulations on the album, which

is wonderful. You're getting a great response from that well from the

fans. You spend two years making something, then... We were talking

about this earlier, when you take that long to make something and then

putting it out... It's like doing exams or something. It's like exam

day or something. When it comes out and people actually connect with it,

it's amazing that people actually still care about Frightened Rabbit

after all this time. It's been a long time. How long? Ten years. We

are not old. I'm quite old. OK, then I'm... I am younger. You'll always

be youngest one. How do you go about picking the set now. You have this

amazing collection of songs, you've got those found to be never the

start. You've also got this new set of fans who are discovering you now.

If that something you think about when you're putting together a set

for a festival? I mean you have to, you know, and it differs each

festival. This is obviously, in Scotland people have been listening

for a bit longer than Belgium for example. Use that as an example. You

have to think, what will people actually want to hear at this

festival. You have to leave out songs people are really going to

want to hear and they are going to get angry and treat you later,

saying, why didn't you play this? If they given us a three hour set we'd

have played everything but we're not Bruce Springsteen. Do you tweet

back? It depends. In case of any bottles of beer you found. It was

difficult when we went on to after the album was released, dropping

songs that have been in the set for six years, five years. It makes it

harder. It reinvigorates the set for us to put in new songs. And play

them and see how the crowd reacts to that. You've just come back from...

Are you going back out to the States? You've just been in the

States, what an amazing response you've had. Congratulations, that

must blow your mind. It's weird. It's strange to be so well-received

somewhere like that, somewhere that's far away. We always dream

duff touring the US. Then all of a sudden, you know, we've got this

audience that... I think people really, really like Scottish stuff

over there, any Scottish stuff. The accent. You should do dancing with

the stars over there. You've not seen my dancing. Give me half an

hour. Tell you what, we'll play you, I'll show you my dancing, then you

should never have suggested that. As in, thank you so much for popping

What a huge crowd for the Courteeners earlier on. I saw Liam

leaving just before we came on air, and he was walking with an

incredibly large selection of shirts. I guess he went with the

camouflage, the one that most went with the pastel coloured chalk dust

that they had during the performance. That is my new

favourite thing at festivals so far this summer. We are in the artist

area, it's quite quiet. There is music still on and we are going to

head over to the Radio 1 stage and catch Alesso live in a bit. First,

two young lads who have worked their way up here at T In The Park. They

went from King Tut's to the Radio 1 stage and this year they are second

top on the main stage. This is the wonderful Disclosure.

are playing in daytime, the huge visuals they have, they are used to

playing in a dark environment, whether it be a stage, tent, later

at night. They had amazing views of the sunset behind them at T in the
