Blind Auditions 6 The Voice UK

Five weeks ago, four superstars set out to build their teams of 12.

Tonight, those teams must be completed.

I think when you're down to the last two, especially the last one,

they have to move you.

There's a lot of voices to come yet, so you don't want to do it

too soon, but you don't want to wait too long either.

I don't want 12 contestants that really don't challenge me,

because that's boring.

People have their dreams on the line. That's a tough decision.

Completing the team is probably the hardest part of it.

Danny is searching for one more act.

Tom also has one final spot to fill.

Jessie is in need of two to complete her team.

This is the final blind audition.

With so few places left on their teams, time is running out for the

coaches and artists, but our first act has brought plenty of backup.

I am Adenike Makinde, I'm 23.

My family is very musical.

When it comes to music, we become house band, literally a house band!

My brother will be on the drums, my sister on the piano,

and I'll be singing, pretending I'm Tina Turner, with a hairbrush.

When I sing, something wells up inside of me.

Music is my life.

This is such a great opportunity for me.

If the competition wasn't fierce before, it certainly is now.

It's the last day. I have this good instinct that something just

incredible is going to come along.

You started off really great

and you hit this one riff that was just magnificent,

and then after that, I think you hit a bad note

and it haunted you through the rest of your performance.

That song means a lot to me -

in my childhood, it's my mom's favourite song.

When she would play that song she was happiest

because my sister's dad would come to the house

and, you know, it just was...

And my mom would have her romantic time

with the love of her life at the time.

I was too young to know what was going on, but... I know...

For me, honestly, any note that I was like, "Ohh,"

-wasn't making me sure, was purely because of nerves.

It is like make or break now, like we're filling up spaces

and it's really tough to know when to go and where not to go,

but I don't want you to feel disheartened at all.

Singing's always something that I've always wanted to do

and when I saw the show I was kind of like,

"OK, this could be a last shot kind of thing for me."

I've been singing since I was eight, so nearly nine years.

I'm now 17 turning 18.

Performing for four superstars is a daunting prospect for any act.

Any singer that comes for The Voice is taking a risk

because you're putting your voice up for judgement.

33-year-old Danny Foster from London knows this better than most.

What's interesting for me

is that I started my career on the first ever TV talent show.

# Wherever you go... #

Hear'Say was an amazing time in my life.

We had the fastest-selling debut album and single of all time.

# Pure and simple gonna be there... #

What have you been doing since Hear'Say ended?

I've just been grafting really, doing gigs up and down the country.

And obviously now I get to do me.

51-year-old Jay Aston was also in a famous band,

one that took Europe by storm.

I was in a pop group back in the '80s called Bucks Fizz.

# You gotta speed it up and then you gotta slow it down... #

We had three number ones and we sold about 15 million albums

and we travelled all round the world.

And in 1981 we won Eurovision with a song called Making Your Mind Up.

It was just a whirlwind of gloriousness, actually.

Tragically, it all ended when we had a really bad coach crash.

I was paralysed down one side,

I didn't know whether that would come back.

I just had to leave.

I think in a way I'm trying to pick up where I lost something out.

I guess there's a bit of me that still wants to be heard.

What's appealing for me is that the coaches cannot see me.

So, in my mind, there's no judgement on Danny from Hear'Say.

And everything is just judged purely on my voice.

I didn't turn around because it was good but it wasn't amazing, for me.

And you look really familiar as well.

I used to be in a group called Hear'Say, so...

OK, that's exactly where I knew you from.

-And then came out of the pop group

and started a soul band, so...

You know, for me, I quite liked the tone of your voice.

The track just sounded a bit cabaret and I mean that with utmost respect.

I think you have a really great voice.

But if I was going to do that with your voice - I know you sing soul -

but there's a bit of edge to your voice, a bit of rock.

I'd have done something to support that grizzly voice

that you have, you know? That was the reason why I didn't turn around.

You sing really well

and I understand what you were trying to do.

But it just didn't come together, for me.

For me, it was just about saying, "This is me, I'm Danny Foster.

"Take it or leave it." And today, they left it, you know?

It's hard, man. You know what I mean? You turn around to someone.

He was in a band, a famous band.

Singles out, was on stage doing all this stuff and then sings here

and no-one turns around, you know?

With just five places left, could Danny's loss be Jay's gain?

I could just end my career in 90 seconds or I could restart it.

It's that simple.

Now I feel like I'm 100 times better than I used to be then,

For me, to be honest with you, song choice is so hard.

Yeah, I mean, I'm not really a rock artist.

Yeah, that's the thing. It kind of just went like that for me.

It stayed too kind of safe.

And then you really started to show "I can do this, I want this"

right at the end, and before I kind of had a chance, it was finished.

Right, OK.

But it was good, I enjoyed it, it just wasn't for me.

My advice again, coming on the show,

is pick a song that's in your vein and really shows you off best,

cos it did sound a bit like chalk and cheese, that's my personal opinion.

Again, no disrespect.

You've more than enough credentials in the music industry.

But I applaud you for performing for us.

For me it's difficult to try

and give my views on what you should do and shouldn't do, especially

because you've been in the business and you've been successful.

For me, I felt that you need to control,

as far as I'm concerned, your vibrato.

Your vibrato is very strong.

Day to day, just fillings, root canals, the usual.

that this wasn't really for me. I've always been a musician first.

There's not many very artists out there that are doing what I'm trying

to do, bring in the Western with the Eastern in a tasteful mix.

If I got through today, it might prove it's not just a dream,

it's something that I could really do well in.

This time last year, I was in a pop group,

ended up going on tour with The Saturdays and JLS,

which was amazing.

And then I got really ill, ended up in hospital.

I was in hospital for quite a long time.

The band decided that they would move on without me.

One week, I was on tour in the O2 Arena, 10,000 people.
