APPLAUSE APPLAUSE | :00:33. | :00:50.
Thank you. Thank you very much everybody, and it's great to be back | :00:51. | :00:54.
in Norwich, and can I say thank you to all of you from great -- for | :00:55. | :00:59.
breaking off from campaigning to come here today. I just wanted to | :01:00. | :01:05.
say a few things to you, because this is a really crucial election, I | :01:06. | :01:10.
think it is the most critical country has faced in my lifetime. | :01:11. | :01:14.
And I know what hard work you have all been doing throughout the | :01:15. | :01:18.
campaign, and it is less than 36 hours before the polls close am so | :01:19. | :01:26.
let us make the most of that time. Being in Government is a huge | :01:27. | :01:33.
honour, but it is also a huge responsibility, and at no time has | :01:34. | :01:37.
that responsibility been greater than now. Because our country is | :01:38. | :01:44.
facing great challenges, but also huge opportunities are opening up to | :01:45. | :01:50.
us. And as we go out campaigning in this remaining time, I want us to | :01:51. | :01:53.
take out the message to people of the clear choice that is there for | :01:54. | :01:58.
them when they vote tomorrow. And the message of the vision that we as | :01:59. | :02:03.
Conservatives have for building a stronger, fairer and more prosperous | :02:04. | :02:08.
Britain than it is today. And it is only the Conservatives that have the | :02:09. | :02:12.
plan and the vision and the determination to do that. And I am | :02:13. | :02:17.
absolutely confident that we can do that, because I believe in Britain | :02:18. | :02:22.
and I believe in the British people. And I want to see us building a | :02:23. | :02:28.
country where nobody and no community is left behind. I want to | :02:29. | :02:32.
see us building a country where it doesn't matter where you came from | :02:33. | :02:36.
or who your parents are, how far you go is down to you and your hard | :02:37. | :02:42.
work. I want to see a country as we leave the European Union, we do see | :02:43. | :02:47.
opportunities opening up to us, and I think the promise of Brexit is | :02:48. | :02:52.
great. I want to see us as a global, a good-looking nation, I want to see | :02:53. | :02:57.
us out there trading our way round the world. I want to ensure that | :02:58. | :03:02.
economic prosperity and opportunity is spread throughout the whole | :03:03. | :03:06.
country. I want to ensure that this is a country that feels more | :03:07. | :03:13.
confident in its self. -- itself. And I believe in Britain and in the | :03:14. | :03:17.
British people. And that is the message that we will take out in | :03:18. | :03:23.
these remaining hours. Because, you know, there are great things that we | :03:24. | :03:29.
can do together. And I want us to reignite the British spirit. To show | :03:30. | :03:36.
the opportunities and what we can be as a country. Now, when it comes to | :03:37. | :03:45.
the election tomorrow, I think the choices and the questions people | :03:46. | :03:48.
need to ask are exactly the same today as they were right at the | :03:49. | :03:52.
beginning of the campaign, and the first is the question of who do you | :03:53. | :03:57.
trust to actually have the strong and stable leadership that is going | :03:58. | :04:01.
to deliver the best deal for Britain in Europe? Because Brexit matters. | :04:02. | :04:07.
Brexit is the basis of everything else. We need to get that Brexit | :04:08. | :04:14.
deal right. And another question is, who has got the will and crucially | :04:15. | :04:18.
the plan to just get on with the job and deliver Brexit? And remember, | :04:19. | :04:25.
those Brexit negotiations start 11 days after polling day tomorrow. So | :04:26. | :04:30.
in less than a fortnight, the Prime Minister and the Government have to | :04:31. | :04:33.
be ready to go out there and negotiate for Britain, and stand up | :04:34. | :04:37.
and fight for Britain. And there is one simple fact that nobody should | :04:38. | :04:43.
forget, which is that if we lose just six seats, the Government loses | :04:44. | :04:48.
its majority. That would mean that Coalition of chaos, with Labour, the | :04:49. | :04:52.
Lib Dems and the SNP. It would mean Jeremy Corbyn... In Number Ten, John | :04:53. | :05:01.
McDonnell at the Treasury, and what a combination that would be, we know | :05:02. | :05:05.
they would wreck our economy, and what we also know with Labour is | :05:06. | :05:09.
that it is ordinary working people who always pay the price. And in | :05:10. | :05:15.
that Coalition of chaos of course there is a third element, we would | :05:16. | :05:18.
see the SNP and Nicola Sturgeon pulling the strings. So we can | :05:19. | :05:24.
prevent that from happening. Every vote for a Conservative candidate | :05:25. | :05:28.
here and around the country can prevent that from happening, every | :05:29. | :05:33.
candidate -- every vote for Conservative candidates will | :05:34. | :05:35.
strengthen my hand in those Brexit negotiations, and every voter | :05:36. | :05:42.
Conservative candidates will enable us to fight for that brighter future | :05:43. | :05:46.
in the country. So let's go out there with renewed determination in | :05:47. | :05:50.
these last hours, let's go out there not for ourselves but for the future | :05:51. | :05:55.
of our country. And I have a very simple message to people. Vote | :05:56. | :05:59.
Conservative in the national interest. Give me your backing lead | :06:00. | :06:04.
Britain. Give me the authority to speak for Britain. Strengthen my | :06:05. | :06:09.
hand when I negotiate for Britain. And with your backing, I will | :06:10. | :06:12.
deliver for Britain. Thank you. Now, we have some members of the | :06:13. | :06:42.
media. Andy. When you call this election a lot of people were | :06:43. | :06:46.
talking about a landslide. Nobody is talking about that any more, isn't | :06:47. | :06:49.
the reason for that the campaign that you have led, it's been a | :06:50. | :06:55.
disappointment, hasn't it? There is only one poll that matters. I have | :06:56. | :06:59.
never talked about predicting election results, I say one simple | :07:00. | :07:02.
thing you need to do in an election is go out there and work to earn the | :07:03. | :07:06.
support of voters. That's exactly what I've been doing, it's what | :07:07. | :07:12.
Chloe and Lana have been doing, it's what candidates all run have been | :07:13. | :07:17.
doing. It's what all these activates -- activists have been doing. So the | :07:18. | :07:21.
only poll that matters is the one that takes place tomorrow. | :07:22. | :07:25.
Throughout this campaign you have said you have a plan for Brexit, but | :07:26. | :07:31.
after six, seven weeks, voters are no clearer to knowing how you plan | :07:32. | :07:35.
to pull Britain out of the single market, what Bill you might pay | :07:36. | :07:38.
Brussels, what the consequence of you failing would be. You haven't | :07:39. | :07:44.
given voters a clear choice, have you? Yes I have, I gave a speech | :07:45. | :07:51.
back in January, where I set out the negotiation -- negotiating | :07:52. | :07:54.
objectives for Brexit. We have repeated those, we have set those | :07:55. | :07:59.
are clearly in our manifesto. The article 15 letter triggering the | :08:00. | :08:03.
start of negotiations, I set out clearly objectives that we have got, | :08:04. | :08:07.
a conference of free trade agreement, a deep and personal | :08:08. | :08:09.
partnership with the EU in the future. Continuing to cooperate on | :08:10. | :08:16.
Security and defence matters. And there are 12 objectives I have set | :08:17. | :08:20.
out for the Brexit negotiations. I have been very clear what our plan | :08:21. | :08:25.
for Brexit is, Jeremy Corbyn's had I think seven Brexit plans in nine | :08:26. | :08:30.
months. When you are going into this negotiations, you need to know what | :08:31. | :08:33.
you want and how you are going to go about it. And we do. After 77 | :08:34. | :08:42.
bombings, the Conservatives accused the Labour Government of a knee jerk | :08:43. | :08:47.
response. -- 7/7 bombings. Aren't you doing the same by warnings of | :08:48. | :08:53.
tightening the human rights legislation? We are seeing the | :08:54. | :08:57.
terrorist threat changing, we are seeing it evolve, and really to | :08:58. | :09:01.
respond to that. And as I sat on the steps of Downing street, enough is | :09:02. | :09:05.
enough and things have to change. That is why I have said I believe we | :09:06. | :09:10.
do need to do more to tackle the ideology motivating the perpetrators | :09:11. | :09:13.
of these attacks. We need to have those international agreements to | :09:14. | :09:19.
wreck -- regulates cyberspace so the terrorists cannot plan online, we | :09:20. | :09:23.
need to do more to stamp out extremism here in communities in | :09:24. | :09:27.
Britain. And yes, we did need to know -- that the powers for police | :09:28. | :09:31.
and intelligence agencies, to make sure they have the powers they need. | :09:32. | :09:35.
I have talked about some of those powers, like making it easy to | :09:36. | :09:40.
deport foreign terrorists sub -- suspects, like being able to do more | :09:41. | :09:43.
to restrict the freedom and movements of terrorist suspects when | :09:44. | :09:47.
we know they are a threat, but when we don't have the evidence to | :09:48. | :09:52.
prosecute them fully in court, and longer sentences for terrorism | :09:53. | :09:55.
related offences for those who are convicted for them. And what I have | :09:56. | :10:00.
been clear about is that if human rights laws get in the way of us | :10:01. | :10:03.
doing those things, which I think the necessary as the first has | :10:04. | :10:16.
evolved, we will change those rules. Prime Minister, how would any of the | :10:17. | :10:21.
measures on human rights and counterterrorism you have announced | :10:22. | :10:25.
in the last 24 hours have prevented the last three terrorist attacks in | :10:26. | :10:28.
the UK? In those cases all the suspects were already down to MI5 | :10:29. | :10:32.
and the security services. -- were already known. | :10:33. | :10:49.
And and in increased. We're seeing terrorism and breeding terrorism and | :10:50. | :10:59.
the difference in the crude methods used. We need to adapt our response | :11:00. | :11:05.
to that. As Home Secretary, I was clear that when the police and | :11:06. | :11:13.
security services wanted the laws to do their jobs, we gave them to them. | :11:14. | :11:19.
We set in Major legislation, the powers of the security services, but | :11:20. | :11:23.
now the threat is becoming more complex and involved evolving, we | :11:24. | :11:31.
need to adapt to give the police powers need. Thank you. There may be | :11:32. | :11:41.
scores of Labour supporters who can't bring themselves to vote for | :11:42. | :11:47.
Corbyn, but they aren't sure about you either. How are you going to | :11:48. | :11:54.
change things over Brexit? This is a question of not how they voted | :11:55. | :11:57.
before but who they want to see, not just for the next five years but the | :11:58. | :12:03.
country in the future. I would say to those voters that they will | :12:04. | :12:09.
probably be the sort of people that I met in North West Durham years | :12:10. | :12:16.
ago, who are patriotic who want to see good jobs for their children. | :12:17. | :12:21.
They want their children to get a good quality of education, who want | :12:22. | :12:27.
the public services to be there when they need it. And it's the | :12:28. | :12:31.
Conservative Party will build that strong economy, with better paid | :12:32. | :12:41.
jobs. We will help people by capping those rip-off energy tariffs. By | :12:42. | :12:45.
growing our economy, we will ensure we can invest in the NHS, a good | :12:46. | :12:52.
school place for every child, and proper technical education for the | :12:53. | :12:55.
first time the young people in this country. | :12:56. | :12:56.
APPLAUSE In 2011, you scrapped control orders | :12:57. | :13:10.
and replace them with less restrictive powers over terrorist | :13:11. | :13:15.
suspects. Isn't this just another U-turn because you want to now beef | :13:16. | :13:20.
them up again? Reason we did what we did, was because the courts | :13:21. | :13:35.
increasingly knocked them down so we introduced TPIMs. It's right that we | :13:36. | :13:40.
look again to see what powers we can give. I will take a couple more. The | :13:41. | :13:51.
gentleman in front of the lamp with the bid. The Daily Express. You talk | :13:52. | :14:01.
about reigniting the spirit of the British people. Do you believe the | :14:02. | :14:07.
European Union snuffed it out? I believe there's a real opportunity | :14:08. | :14:13.
for us now, coming together as the United Kingdom, grasping the | :14:14. | :14:15.
opportunities available to us coming out of the European Union. We need | :14:16. | :14:23.
to encourage investment here, Seymour jobs come here and ensure | :14:24. | :14:29.
there is opportunity for everybody. As I said, it's about ensuring that | :14:30. | :14:36.
people know that it's not where it comes from that is then and their | :14:37. | :14:40.
hard work that will get them on in life. | :14:41. | :14:51.
Prime Minister, you said you wouldn't make policy up on the hoof | :14:52. | :14:57.
but isn't that what you did last night in the desperate attempt to | :14:58. | :15:02.
show voters you are tough on terror. You had your ups and downs. What | :15:03. | :15:06.
have you learnt about yourself from this campaign? I will say what I've | :15:07. | :15:18.
always known about my -- myself. I like to get out and about. What I'm | :15:19. | :15:25.
doing is setting out to people that as we've seen that higher tempo that | :15:26. | :15:31.
steps that we will take. But many of these are not things that have | :15:32. | :15:35.
suddenly come onto the page book. I've been talking about some of | :15:36. | :15:41.
these issues before. I've talked about deporting foreign suspects. I | :15:42. | :15:55.
have deported some hate preachers out of the country. | :15:56. | :16:03.
APPLAUSE You appeared at a lot of events but | :16:04. | :16:12.
Corbyn is attracting thousands of people to rallies. Does that worry | :16:13. | :16:16.
you at all? I been into workplaces and talk to people in their | :16:17. | :16:19.
workplace about the issues that matter to them and taken their | :16:20. | :16:26.
questions. And yes, I'm here with activists today but this is the last | :16:27. | :16:30.
stages of the campaign and dining carriage in people to get out over | :16:31. | :16:40.
the last 36 hours and campaign. -- and I am encouraging people to get | :16:41. | :16:48.
out. Can you promise Brenda from Bristol and the nation's beleaguered | :16:49. | :16:56.
sketch writers that there will be will not be another general election | :16:57. | :16:58.
but the next five years. LAUGHTER | :16:59. | :16:58.
APPLAUSE The country needed that stability | :16:59. | :17:13.
over the next five years. On the question of a referendum, we | :17:14. | :17:17.
are the one party who is going to deliver on the will of the British | :17:18. | :17:22.
people, respect their will and make sure we go through with Brexit, | :17:23. | :17:25.
unlike other parties. APPLAUSE | :17:26. | :17:36. |
