No2EU, Yes to Workers' Rights is an electoral coalition that | 0:00:18 | 0:00:22
supports workers' rights, decent public services and peace. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:26
The European Union is a threat to all these things. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
If anyone believes that you're going to get socialism | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
or trade union rights from the European Union, | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
you live in a dream world. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:39
The sole reason that the European Union was set up | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
under the architect of Schuman | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
was to stop socialism spreading in the first place. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
And the laws are made in the Council of Ministers, | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
not in the European Parliament, and they're made in secret | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
by a bureaucratic group of commissioners, | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
not one of whom is elected, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
none of whom we can get rid of and who don't have to listen to us. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
A bureaucratic nightmare committed to neoliberalism. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:03
No wonder Bob Crow and Tony Benn supported No2EU. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
We campaign for an exit from the EU but unlike UKIP, | 0:01:07 | 0:01:11
we support policies for the millions, | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14
not the millionaires. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:15
UKIP wants to abolish health and safety laws, | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
No2EU wants them strengthened. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
UKIP wants to protect the city bankers from regulation, | 0:01:23 | 0:01:27
No2EU would take the banks into public ownership | 0:01:27 | 0:01:30
and tax the speculators. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
UKIP wants to privatise our NHS, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:36
No2EU wants to protect it. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
And where UKIP peddles fear and division between workers, | 0:01:39 | 0:01:43
No2EU stands for equal rights for all. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
Behind all the Eurobabble, | 0:01:51 | 0:01:52
the EU enforces the interests of big business. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:56
The troika - | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
the EU Commission, the European Central Bank | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
and the International Monetary Fund - | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
have bailed out the banks on a massive scale. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:08
And it's ordinary people who are paying the price. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
From Ireland and Portugal across to Cyprus, | 0:02:11 | 0:02:16
millions of workers have been thrown out of their jobs. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
Public services shut down or privatised | 0:02:19 | 0:02:23
and wages, benefits and pensions slashed. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:27
Elected governments that stood in the way | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
of EU slash and burn policies, as in Greece and Italy, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:35
were replaced with unelected so-called technocrats. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:39
The harsh reality is that EU domination means five things. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:44
First, member countries lose the right to govern themselves. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:48
Our elected parliaments, assemblies and councils | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
are increasingly restricted by EU law. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:55
Second, European Court judgments allow multinational companies | 0:02:55 | 0:03:00
to undermine hard-won standards of pay and conditions. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
Third, the EU is dismantling our welfare state and public services, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:09
opening them up to European and American corporations. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:14
Fourth, the EU has created an enormous pool of migrant workers, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:19
driven from job to job and from country to country. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:23
No2EU's answer is not to attack super-exploited workers, | 0:03:23 | 0:03:29
it's to invest in the communities where people live and want to stay | 0:03:29 | 0:03:33
and to protect labour standards for everybody | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
against greedy and ruthless employers. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:39
Finally, the EU is developing its own army to, | 0:03:39 | 0:03:43
in the words of former Commission President Jacques Delors, | 0:03:43 | 0:03:46
fight the resource wars of the 21st century. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:50
Today's unelected EU president Barroso | 0:03:50 | 0:03:52
refers to the Union as an empire. | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
The empire's common foreign policy means that we are embroiled | 0:03:55 | 0:03:58
in one deadly fiasco after another. | 0:03:58 | 0:04:01
From Libya to Syria and now the Ukraine. | 0:04:01 | 0:04:04
No2EU opposes EU and NATO interference | 0:04:04 | 0:04:07
in the affairs of other countries. | 0:04:07 | 0:04:09
And we certainly don't want to be shackled to the fascist forces | 0:04:09 | 0:04:12
now re-emerging in Europe. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:14
They thrive on the unemployment and despair | 0:04:14 | 0:04:17
created by austerity policies. | 0:04:17 | 0:04:19
We stand instead for democratic sovereignty, | 0:04:19 | 0:04:23
for freedom for the peoples of Scotland, Wales and England | 0:04:23 | 0:04:26
to decide their own policies, | 0:04:26 | 0:04:28
including trade links with other countries around the world. | 0:04:28 | 0:04:32
Our candidates include professors and factory workers, | 0:04:32 | 0:04:35
nurses and civil servants, | 0:04:35 | 0:04:38
carers and transport staff. | 0:04:38 | 0:04:40
We urge you to vote No2EU, Yes to Workers' Rights | 0:04:40 | 0:04:44
on Thursday, May 22nd. | 0:04:44 | 0:04:46 |
