General Election 2017: 11/05/2017 Party Election Broadcasts: Social Democratic and Labour Party

Theresa May has called this election to re-enforce last year's

referendum result, to drag us out of Europe against our will,

to build barriers and borders across this island.

Well, let's send her a very clear message.

Vote for the most pro-European party on these islands.

Vote for the party that will turn up and vote against Brexit and

work against Brexit.

Don't let them build barriers and borders across this island.

I'm deeply concerned about the British Government's decision

to leave the European Union. The European Union and the European

single market has been very good for our economy in Northern Ireland.

Cross-border business will also be affected and that in turn

will reduce jobs here.

European Union membership has helped all of us in terms of funding,

the island economy, and the peace process.

The SDLP want those benefits to remain for all of us.

That's why we have proposed the best answers to Brexit's problems by

using and developing the Good Friday Agreement to its full potential.

Brexit isn't just about hard borders, it's about influencing

government to develop opportunities for our farmers, our fishermen,

and jobs for our young people in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

To do that, we need to put pressure on government to lower VAT on

tourism products, to bring more apprentices into the catering

industry and to ensure that more money flows into tourism projects

in rural economies to develop jobs for all our young people.

This Tory government is preparing to take more and more powers

away from Stormont.

Their austerity ideology is driving more families into poverty

and into food banks.

SDLP MPs have successfully defeated Tory welfare cuts by taking

their seats in Westminster.

We are the only local MPs fighting for fairness.

The British Government has already said it intends to abandon

crucial subsidies for our farmers.

We must not allow another Conservative government to

devastate our rural way of life.

Only SDLP MPs will take a stand.

Don't let them build barriers across this island.

Don't let them drag us out of Europe against our wishes.

If you want to stop them, you have to come out and vote against them.

If you want to stop them, you have to vote for people who will

actually turn up and vote against them.

If you want to stop a hard Brexit on this island, vote SDLP.
