to live Diamond League athletics on BBC 36789 we are trackside in the

:00:51.:01:00.

Bislett stadium in Oslo. The Dream Mile features this evening. Plenty

:01:01.:01:04.

more beside and lots more apprenticeship interest. Even when

:01:05.:01:09.

we were competing, lots of Brits would come to Oslo? Yes, the

:01:10.:01:14.

promoters had a chat to each other and linked across. It worked well

:01:15.:01:17.

for our schedules and that's continued. We've got lots of Brits

:01:18.:01:25.

on show, which is good for us. One name in particular who has competed

:01:26.:01:30.

and perhaps we thought would never compete again is Phillips Idowu Yes,

:01:31.:01:36.

it was nice to see him competing but I think he would be disappointed

:01:37.:01:40.

with his performance. In training apparently he's had problem hitting

:01:41.:01:45.

the board. When you've missed a lot of competitions that is a mistake

:01:46.:01:51.

that can happen, but it was great to see him back. An athlete in the

:01:52.:02:00.

twilight of his career, and an extra pick Anzhi to this -- piquancy to

:02:01.:02:11.

this. In contrast Richard Kilty is the

:02:12.:02:26.

world indoor champion. He beat a stellar field to take that title,

:02:27.:02:30.

surprising many people in the audience watching. I think its will

:02:31.:02:35.

be time for Richard to think he needs to get under that 10. 1. 0

:02:36.:02:47.

mark. It is going to be tight. The women's 400 metre hurdles is our

:02:48.:02:57.

first event. Eilidh Child had a strong performance. She's one of

:02:58.:03:02.

these athletes you can really rely on. She is under a lot of pressure,

:03:03.:03:07.

because Scotland at the Commonwealth Games and that nation will be

:03:08.:03:10.

expecting her to deliver and do well. And Kaliese Spencer from

:03:11.:03:15.

Jamaica as well. Won in Rome last Friday, 53. 97.

:03:16.:03:45.

Kemi Adekoya, won Doha in a personal best. Beat Spencer there but hadn't

:03:46.:03:54.

raced since. Lane 6 is empty. Kori Carter a late

:03:55.:04:01.

withdrawal. Natalya Antyukh, big and powerful, very fast, a former indoor

:04:02.:04:05.

champion over the flat 400. Watch her. And in lane 8 is Shevon

:04:06.:04:11.

Stoddart. Her personal best goes back to 2005, nine years ago. She's

:04:12.:04:19.

coming back to something lows to her best. This is very much a clash

:04:20.:04:27.

between Kaliese Spencer, who won in Rome, and Kemi Adekoya, who beat

:04:28.:04:32.

Spencer in Doha three weeks ago but hasn't raced since. An interesting

:04:33.:04:38.

return to the racing fold for the Bahrainian. She is in five.

:04:39.:05:00.

anybody has gone off the quickest perhaps it is Adekoya in lane 5. The

:05:01.:05:05.

third lane is empty. In the red Adekoya moving well. Eilidh Child

:05:06.:05:10.

down the back straight. Runs so confidently. She said she's feeling

:05:11.:05:15.

really good about her hurdling at the moment. Child in the centre of

:05:16.:05:22.

the picture hurdling well, but Spencer beginning to surge there, a

:05:23.:05:29.

powerful Jamaican there. In lane 4 the powerful Adekoya. Passed by

:05:30.:05:34.

Spencer. Eilidh Child battling away. Tiffany Williams in the blue, but

:05:35.:05:40.

expense hear a battle on her hand. Adekoya trying to go... Oh my word.

:05:41.:05:46.

That camera angle is far from perfect but I think Spencer might

:05:47.:05:52.

have hung on. Adekoya certainly did effectively, her first race in three

:05:53.:05:58.

or four weeks. Spencer battling hard. Eilidh Child running really

:05:59.:06:04.

well. Adekoya rallied so well. She - but Spencer ran a very even paced

:06:05.:06:19.

race she has a good deal left in the final stages of the race to run them

:06:20.:06:23.

down. She wasn't really in it at 200 metres. That's exactly the way she

:06:24.:06:31.

ran in Rome, when she won there. The time is being diminished by this

:06:32.:06:36.

blustery wind. 54. 94 the time on the clock. Spencer is dominant at

:06:37.:06:43.

the moment. She leads the diamond race. 55. 33 for child, Colin. After

:06:44.:06:56.

a 54 last week in Rome, perhaps a little business disappointed? I

:06:57.:07:00.

think it is pretty blustery at the moment and that will have an effect

:07:01.:07:06.

on all the events today, especially the early events. It is early, it

:07:07.:07:12.

needs to calm down a little bit. That's why the dream run is at the

:07:13.:07:17.

end. It was gusting all over the place. I was standing at the start

:07:18.:07:22.

trying to work out what stride to do. I was trying to do 15 but I like

:07:23.:07:30.

a tailwind to do that. Round the bend it was so windy I don't even

:07:31.:07:37.

know what happened. It was a little bit messy. The conditions are

:07:38.:07:42.

important, because you never know what you will come up against in

:07:43.:07:48.

Scotland at Hampden Park, eh? Yes. It will give me an advantage in

:07:49.:07:53.

Glasgow. We are all in the same boat at the end of the day. Next up the

:07:54.:07:58.

you've got the European team championships chosen to do, that a

:07:59.:08:01.

lot of senior athletes have chosen to avoid that. You will go there as

:08:02.:08:07.

one of the veterans. How are you looking forward to that I love the

:08:08.:08:12.

European Championships. We are working as a team, and you don't get

:08:13.:08:20.

that very often in athletics. I am looking forward to it. Eilidh, good

:08:21.:08:26.

luck with that. Thank you. Eilidh Child third place in the 400 metre

:08:27.:08:31.

hurdles, but there's much more to come over the next couple of hours.

:08:32.:08:42.

We'll be looking tore 16 metres plus tonight. Allyson Felix crashed out

:08:43.:08:46.

of the World Championships last summer. Tonight it is 200 metres as

:08:47.:08:52.

her comeback continues. And that includes Britain's Jody

:08:53.:09:03.

Williams, who runs 100m alongside her team-mate Asha Philip.

:09:04.:09:21.

The Dream Mile is always one of the highlights here at Bislett.

:09:22.:09:45.

Do get in touch with us on social media. Colin has already put up a

:09:46.:09:57.

picture of me with my make-up on. We can't believe that the world

:09:58.:10:04.

record has gob. And in his -- the world record has gone. And in his

:10:05.:10:10.

home nation. After he did such a wonderful jump, we didn't see him

:10:11.:10:15.

again, because he injured himself. I think he will look forward to

:10:16.:10:19.

putting down the gauntlet to the rest of the athletes here, because

:10:20.:10:23.

he likes to demonstrate how good he is. He is a supreme athlete, a great

:10:24.:10:28.

competitor. I'm looking at the conditions. It is going to be a

:10:29.:10:34.

little bit blustery. Where the pole vault takes place is at an evening

:10:35.:10:38.

al, so it will be interesting to see how it affects their performances.

:10:39.:10:43.

And outdoors he hasn't yet cleared 6 metres? Not yet. Not yet. He will be

:10:44.:10:51.

looking forward to doing that. I think he will demonstrate he is more

:10:52.:10:55.

than capable of doing that. He will want to get close to his indoor

:10:56.:10:58.

best, which is the overall world record now. Bubka is here, Seb Coe

:10:59.:11:10.

is here, but the main guest gets a plate with their face on it. This

:11:11.:11:15.

time it is this man, Carl Lewis. One of the things we mentioned when he

:11:16.:11:20.

was doing this is his sense of self possession the Americans had. If we

:11:21.:11:25.

were in that car we would be embarrassed but he is lapping it up.

:11:26.:11:32.

It is a long time since he's been here, so there'll be great memories

:11:33.:11:37.

for Carl. The applause, he was milking that. The athletes based in

:11:38.:11:42.

the United States, rarely do they come to Europe and experience this

:11:43.:11:46.

atmosphere. They haven't done it for an age. He enjoyed it. He had a

:11:47.:11:52.

wonderful interview a back off that presentation. It was lovely to hear

:11:53.:11:58.

his voice. It was like a monologue. It is great to debate who is the

:11:59.:12:03.

greatest of all time. We always talk in this country who is the greatest

:12:04.:12:10.

Olympian, but in world athletics would it be Carl lieu is? The

:12:11.:12:17.

greatest greatest because he is the most medalled? It hat to be his 1984

:12:18.:12:23.

performance in Los Angeles, a home performance and a tough competition.

:12:24.:12:27.

He pulled out something that was, well, it has never been achieved

:12:28.:12:32.

since. He is right up there. But a lot of athletes could debate that.

:12:33.:12:36.

Usain Bolt, his performances are spirit special too. The other thing

:12:37.:12:44.

with Carl Lewis is four consecutive long jump titles, perhaps the last

:12:45.:12:51.

one, in Atlanta, beating Mike Powell, he perhaps shouldn't have

:12:52.:12:54.

won but did because of the strength of his personality. They asked him

:12:55.:12:58.

that same question, which one of those medals were the most

:12:59.:13:03.

important, and he said that in 1996 at leanta. He was 35 and he

:13:04.:13:07.

surprised everybody, including himself, he could win that title.

:13:08.:13:14.

Now the men's steeplechase. Watch out for the Kenyans in this one.

:13:15.:13:16.

Talk of a world leading time. Haron Lagat, the Kenyan, who has

:13:17.:13:36.

been asked to take the two months ice two minutes 42 the 2000. -- some

:13:37.:13:43.

pacemakers. Evan Jager, the American, broke the record in his

:13:44.:13:50.

first-ever 3000m steeplechase. There is Jager. Eight minutes six he ran

:13:51.:14:02.

in 2012. There is Kipruto. Lots of talent here, the Olympic champion in

:14:03.:14:08.

2008. Phil on the sixth lap when defending his title in 2012. Birech

:14:09.:14:15.

is in great form. He was fourth in Doha. Then he won in Rome and then

:14:16.:14:22.

the trials. There is Koech, steeplechase bronze Olympic

:14:23.:14:28.

medallist in 2004. He does not run very well at altitude. It is

:14:29.:14:35.

interesting to see Jager, how well he will go. He was third in the

:14:36.:14:45.

Diamond mile race, one of the long-distance races to suit all. We

:14:46.:14:52.

are looking for two minutes 40. That is eight minute pace, and that will

:14:53.:14:58.

tell us if they actually along with this. Koech is at the front, so is

:14:59.:15:05.

Birech. As long as they stay in contact with the serious pace. As

:15:06.:15:18.

they go around that bend we will get a split on that first 1000. It has

:15:19.:15:23.

always promised a lot, the steeplechase, we nearly got a world

:15:24.:15:29.

record a year or so ago. It just missed it by 100th of a second. We

:15:30.:15:33.

always feel the talent is here with the leading time of eight minutes or

:15:34.:15:45.

83. -- 80183. It is a tall order, asking them to

:15:46.:15:51.

turn out the eight minute pace. Evan Jager come in second place, by

:15:52.:15:55.

the way, people talk about him having a shot at the US record here,

:15:56.:16:00.

which has is on record, eight minutes and six seconds from a few

:16:01.:16:08.

years ago. He ran close to that ten days ago, pretty tasty for a

:16:09.:16:11.

steeplechase. In second place in the red, Jager, he is full of confidence

:16:12.:16:20.

at the moment. Back to the pole vault, Konstantinos

:16:21.:16:25.

Filippidis. His first attempt at 5.60 for the

:16:26.:16:29.

Greek. A good competitor, though he is only

:16:30.:16:35.

cleared 5.62 this year, so he is nearing his limits so far this

:16:36.:16:38.

season. That was smooth from the 27-year-old.

:16:39.:16:44.

The next height will be at 5.70. He starts a fresh, so to speak,

:16:45.:17:03.

after that first-time clearance, he will put those failures behind them.

:17:04.:17:09.

There is a familiar figure, Renaud Lavillenie, world record holder.

:17:10.:17:15.

6.16, he runs over it. That is his opening height, no trouble at all

:17:16.:17:19.

for the 27-year-old Frenchman. He is a great world record-holder now, but

:17:20.:17:26.

there is -- there is no such thing from high jump perspective of indoor

:17:27.:17:30.

and outdoor world records. He is undisputed world number one at the

:17:31.:17:35.

moment and he has won the last two competitions here over the

:17:36.:17:40.

pole-vault. The first kilometre was fast, 2.38 .88 which is inside the

:17:41.:17:48.

pace if they can maintain this. The pace is very strong indeed, just

:17:49.:17:55.

what was asked for and Jager has gone with the pacemaker, Birech has

:17:56.:17:59.

latched onto him. Koech is behind him, then Kipruto,

:18:00.:18:05.

Olympic champion from 2008. 8.04 this season, and Jager looks full of

:18:06.:18:13.

confidence. This is fascinating, we can see Evan Jager really going for

:18:14.:18:15.

it here. He has a really good set of cards up

:18:16.:18:21.

his sleeve. 13.02 he ran for 5000 in Brussels at

:18:22.:18:26.

the end of last summer. 3.53, he is not hanging around on the flat for

:18:27.:18:32.

one mile, and he is a former 1500m runner who took to the steeplechase

:18:33.:18:35.

when he could not make it a mile. He has a lovely, lazy stride, Evan

:18:36.:18:39.

Jager. The steeplechase when he could not make it a mile. He has a

:18:40.:18:43.

lovely, lazy stride, Evan Jager. He and certainly break his US record.

:18:44.:18:52.

-- he could certainly. Birech has recognised the pace,

:18:53.:18:57.

because he is happy to sit there behind Jager, and Jager has the job

:18:58.:18:59.

now of leading the race. This is a very, very spread out

:19:00.:19:12.

race, and I'm not surprised, Jager is really taking them on.

:19:13.:19:16.

We're watching the clock to see how quick it is, but that first 2.38 was

:19:17.:19:24.

very promising indeed. Jager is taking them on. His fifth

:19:25.:19:27.

steeplechase he broke the North American record, 8.06.81.

:19:28.:19:32.

This is territory he has never been in.

:19:33.:19:37.

Darya Klishina in the long jump now. One of the pin-up girls of the

:19:38.:19:42.

sport, her opening effort. Goodspeed, just cuts astride a

:19:43.:19:46.

little bit on that opening effort. -- good speed.

:19:47.:19:54.

Darya Klishina, and her coach has now based herself in Florida, bought

:19:55.:20:00.

herself an apartment close to the training centre. Former world junior

:20:01.:20:03.

champion. That is solid enough. Chris Huhne --

:20:04.:20:12.

from Daria covers -- 6.62 from Daria Cucina.

:20:13.:20:19.

-- Darya Klishina. Jager has to settle for second place

:20:20.:20:30.

at the moment. In third place is Hilary Kipsang

:20:31.:20:35.

Yego, then behind him is Koech, then Kipruto.

:20:36.:20:39.

They are about 100m or so behind, and Jager and played all the --

:20:40.:20:47.

Birech have not given up. This is good to be very quick indeed.

:20:48.:20:53.

Jager looking strong in second place. The gap has stayed around ten

:20:54.:21:01.

metres. Birech Lukasz Kubot in Rome, full of running and he is doing well

:21:02.:21:08.

tonight. Evan Jager is looking not really strong. -- Birech looked

:21:09.:21:22.

supreme in Rome. Birech is well into the final 1000

:21:23.:21:26.

and looks very strong. The bill will go and that will encourage everyone.

:21:27.:21:34.

Hilary Kipsang Yego insert place behind Jager, then some way down is

:21:35.:21:43.

running talent -- Bremen pallette -- Brahim Taleb.

:21:44.:21:48.

There is no gap come it is marginal, around another five or six

:21:49.:21:54.

metres, but Birech, he promised in Rome and delivered that, he has

:21:55.:21:58.

promised there, he got a fast-paced pacemaking earlier on, Haron

:21:59.:22:05.

Lagat's pacemaking was superb. And Jager... A little starter.

:22:06.:22:14.

What has he got down the street? 7.43.44 on the clock.

:22:15.:22:21.

They have slowed down a little bit in the final third of the race, but

:22:22.:22:26.

it will be very close to eight minutes for Birech, just outside by

:22:27.:22:30.

the look of it, but it warmly will be just outside eight minutes.

:22:31.:22:39.

8.02.38. And Jager, 8.06. That is a very good run by the American,

:22:40.:22:42.

roughly the same as its personal best, but my goodness me this is the

:22:43.:22:47.

stage on which to perform. I tell you what, Evan Jager I think

:22:48.:22:52.

has just missed his US record, 8.06.974 Evan Jager. He is around

:22:53.:23:03.

two tenths of a second out side it. Birech blew him away mid-race, it

:23:04.:23:07.

would have been good for someone to chase for Jager.

:23:08.:23:13.

It may have stretched a little too long, the gap, between them.

:23:14.:23:24.

Birech control that, didn't he? He let Jager lead then ran that last

:23:25.:23:28.

part. He did not have anyone to really fight with on that final part

:23:29.:23:31.

of the race, but it is a great time of eight minutes two seconds .3 is

:23:32.:23:42.

-- 8.02.37. Birech looking supreme. Evan Jager,

:23:43.:23:47.

film star looks and it is great to see the header mini of the Kenyans

:23:48.:23:50.

taken apart there. That is a brand-new ten in -- great

:23:51.:23:57.

to see the hegemony of the Kenyans taken apart.

:23:58.:24:00.

That is a brand-new Kenyan competing.

:24:01.:24:03.

Evan Jager, fantastic performance, just two tenths of his US record.

:24:04.:24:10.

Great performance, good to see. Just before we came on air it was

:24:11.:24:15.

the men's 400m hurdles. Great anticipation for that because Ashton

:24:16.:24:19.

Eaton, the world record-holder in the decathlon, was going for this.

:24:20.:24:23.

Also, Rhys Williams from Great Britain was due to be on this.

:24:24.:24:26.

Unfortunately he was disqualified for a false start. This is what

:24:27.:24:32.

happened when they got away for real.

:24:33.:24:37.

No problem with the start this time, and Ashton Eaton has gone on

:24:38.:24:43.

very quickly indeed. He is right up on Van Zyl, who is a sub 48 man at

:24:44.:24:48.

his best. It is a very hard run the first 200m by Ashton Eaton.

:24:49.:24:52.

Johnny Dutch is going well in the outside, chasing Magi of Estonia.

:24:53.:24:57.

Schirrmeister is going well with a lot to do. Van Zyl has been run

:24:58.:25:01.

right down at the moment. Ashton Eaton is powering round to 300m.

:25:02.:25:06.

What an athlete, he is leading at the moment, Johnny Dutch coming into

:25:07.:25:12.

second place, then you have Van Zyl. Into the home straight. Ashton

:25:13.:25:15.

Eaton, and Johnny Dutch, these two, I said don't discount Johnny Dutch

:25:16.:25:21.

committee has the experience, but Eaton was coming through and wins it

:25:22.:25:27.

easily. Johnny Dutch in second place, Van Zyl comes through, 49.16.

:25:28.:25:39.

Now time to the 400m hurdler 's. You have won your Diamond League

:25:40.:25:42.

meeting, I was that? I am pleased, it was a good race.

:25:43.:25:50.

The timing was not stupendous but it was consistent for me come in the

:25:51.:25:55.

low 49s, that just means I have to import 48, and the crowd was great.

:25:56.:26:01.

How serious are you about it? There are no championships this year, I do

:26:02.:26:03.

away from the decathlon at the moment completely?

:26:04.:26:08.

Anything I do I take very seriously. It is serious in the sense that

:26:09.:26:13.

every time I race I tried to include myself and win. It is not serious in

:26:14.:26:17.

that I do not see myself doing a Championship.

:26:18.:26:20.

In terms of the rest of the season, do you have a time in your head? I

:26:21.:26:24.

know you are very competitive. I am competitive. I fill sorry for

:26:25.:26:28.

them, tough race. I do not like to set goals.

:26:29.:26:33.

If I try to beat people, the times will come. It would be nice to do

:26:34.:26:37.

48, absolutely. I will see if it happens or not. We have been in awe

:26:38.:26:41.

of what you have achieved. Thank you for talking to us. Thank

:26:42.:26:46.

you, guys, appreciate it. Ashton Eaton, it is all right to set

:26:47.:26:49.

goals. Colin, we were chatting earlier in

:26:50.:26:53.

the hotel and you think, talking about another multi-event, Jessica

:26:54.:26:58.

Ennis-Hill, who is obviously expecting around the time of the

:26:59.:27:02.

Commonwealth Games, may this we away for her, the 400m hurdles?

:27:03.:27:08.

I think she would be majestic as this. She is a British record holder

:27:09.:27:12.

already at the 100m hurdles. She has great speed and endurance, she goes

:27:13.:27:18.

under 23 seconds already in the 200m, and at the end of a gruelling

:27:19.:27:22.

pentathlon she still manages a great 800m. The 400m hurdles is that

:27:23.:27:26.

perfect, the nation of all of those things that are needed, strength,

:27:27.:27:30.

endurance, speed, technical ability. And with Katarina Johnson-Thompson

:27:31.:27:34.

going so well with a point score that would have won Moscow last

:27:35.:27:37.

year, maybe the appeal would be to go for something different.

:27:38.:27:42.

Sometimes athletes need new challenges. She will just have come

:27:43.:27:46.

back from childbirth. Jessica, I am pushing you to watch the 400m

:27:47.:27:49.

hurdles. Next up is the women's 800m, which

:27:50.:27:55.

features Jess Judd. She was one of the average for us last year. She

:27:56.:27:59.

won Diamond League meeting in Birmingham. Her form trailed off

:28:00.:28:05.

towards the end of the year, but still broad smiles to everyone.

:28:06.:28:08.

A lovely athlete, she really bounced on the scene with energy and

:28:09.:28:17.

enthusiasm. I am not sure she has actually running such a big area

:28:18.:28:23.

stadium, and quality field, also. We have three former world

:28:24.:28:26.

champions. Caster Semenya, not in the greatest

:28:27.:28:30.

format of the moment. She is struggling at 2.05. To see

:28:31.:28:36.

your competing something else. There is lots of talent in this field and

:28:37.:28:39.

it makes it competitive. That is what Jess Judd may need.

:28:40.:28:44.

Well, Jess Judd, we will talk to her about that when she comes off the

:28:45.:28:46.

track. Paula Radcliffe was a great support

:28:47.:28:50.

and help to her during the time when she fractured one of her bones.

:28:51.:28:57.

Back in the deep end here. Back to the commentary team. Angelika

:28:58.:29:10.

Cichocka of Poland, a silver medallist in the world indoors in

:29:11.:29:20.

March. She shares lane 6 with Ajee Wilson, reigning junior champion.

:29:21.:29:27.

Eunice Sum in wonderful form. Had big wins in Doha and Rome. Selma

:29:28.:29:46.

Kajan in lane 8 with Janeth Jepkosgei. Jepkosgei won here in

:29:47.:29:53.

2006. She isn't in that form at the moment. The women's 800.

:29:54.:30:03.

I don't think I've ever seen quite so many lanes being shared in an 800

:30:04.:30:09.

metres. It looks more like a 100. The lumbering figure of Caster

:30:10.:30:15.

Semenya in purple has gone off quickly. Can she hold it together?

:30:16.:30:25.

She finished in 10th in Rome. Pacemaker Selma Kajan of Australia.

:30:26.:30:29.

She needs a healthy pace to stretch this field out. It is dangerously

:30:30.:30:33.

big considering the speed they are moving at. Jessica Judd running a

:30:34.:30:38.

very cautious race. She's third from the back in the long white socks to

:30:39.:30:45.

the right of picture. The field still all there. They need 56 or 57

:30:46.:30:54.

with the rest of the field tucked in. Jepkosgei is in third. 57. 45 is

:30:55.:31:04.

just about spot on. Maybe a little on the slow side considering the

:31:05.:31:10.

size of the pack. Sum is in second pace, then Jepkosgei. Wilson in

:31:11.:31:15.

fourth place. Jessica Judd in 8th at the moment for Great Britain. Easing

:31:16.:31:23.

past the little figure of Brenda Martinez. Sum, who dominated in Rome

:31:24.:31:31.

and looked so impressive in recent ways, Judd has run a sensible,

:31:32.:31:37.

cautious race as the young Briton. She won the diamond in Birmingham

:31:38.:31:44.

last year. Wilson into third place, but Sum striding away in front. Here

:31:45.:31:51.

comes Wilson, a good run from her. Jepkosgei struggling in fourth.

:31:52.:31:58.

Coming through Cichocka. Wilson hanging on to second place, Jessica

:31:59.:32:06.

Judd in third. There is a strong wind down the home strait. It is

:32:07.:32:13.

gusting here in the Arena. Sometimes it can swirl and be in the faces of

:32:14.:32:20.

the athletes. Eunice Sum underlining her dominance. She went out in front

:32:21.:32:27.

behind the pacemakers. She got out of trouble early, staid up in front.

:32:28.:32:33.

-- staid up in front. -- stayed up in front. Wilson did a very good

:32:34.:32:38.

job, but so did Jessica Judd. I've watched her as a youngster for many

:32:39.:32:44.

years and now in the senior ranks on the tracks she's beginning to show

:32:45.:32:52.

great form. A best of sub-2. On this form chasing this sort of athletes

:32:53.:32:56.

she's going to do that again and even better. We could well be

:32:57.:33:00.

looking at the next Commonwealth champion there in the figure of

:33:01.:33:03.

Eunice Sum. She is already world champion. Went out in the elite of

:33:04.:33:10.

the Olympics in 2012, which is a -- but she's a very different athlete

:33:11.:33:16.

now. Ivana Spanovic in the women's long jump. The second round. No jump

:33:17.:33:25.

in the first round. A hang technique and that looks good. It could be

:33:26.:33:30.

challenging the lead position. Gets the white flag.

:33:31.:33:36.

Safe. Gets a very good leg shoot at the end. A very basic technique.

:33:37.:33:47.

Just a bit of a fall back but not too much.

:33:48.:33:54.

What's she done and where is she? 6. 67. Second place. One very happy

:33:55.:34:05.

Jessica Judd is here. A massive smile. Did you wake up this morning

:34:06.:34:10.

think you felt that good you could run that quickly? No, my parents

:34:11.:34:18.

will be getting texts from me. I wanted to get the standard. My

:34:19.:34:22.

season didn't start well. I fractured my back in the winter. I

:34:23.:34:26.

can't believe it! You've missed three months of running during the

:34:27.:34:33.

winter? Yes. It's been a stressful time, but Rob has utter faith in me.

:34:34.:34:40.

My granddad watching at home. Everyone had faith in me. I've been

:34:41.:34:48.

telling everyone I can go under two and annoying everyone, and now I've

:34:49.:34:53.

done it. I was worried for you halfway. What were you thinking? I

:34:54.:35:00.

was worried too! I thought I've learnt from my sister to keep the

:35:01.:35:06.

elbows out. You were boxed in at the back. You pushed your way through.

:35:07.:35:11.

You are still a teenager with tremendous maturity. It was one of

:35:12.:35:16.

the biggest fields we've seen. The biggest field and the most talented

:35:17.:35:22.

run I've run against, but I knew I had to up my game. All the British

:35:23.:35:26.

ladies have run so well. I wanted to be with them. Hopefully I can get

:35:27.:35:32.

back into training. And the next target is the trials? I was injured

:35:33.:35:38.

for it last year. Now it is probably the reverse, so at least I can try

:35:39.:35:45.

to progress. We are going to show a results graphic. 1. 59. 77 your

:35:46.:35:53.

personal best. When you look back to the dark times that you had over the

:35:54.:35:58.

course of the winter, it is amazing how it's turned around. I would like

:35:59.:36:04.

to thank everyone, especially in Park City, who head me get through.

:36:05.:36:10.

Thank you to everyone. It's been brilliant. I'm really happy to be

:36:11.:36:15.

back. And Paula Radcliffe was a great help and support to you Yes,

:36:16.:36:21.

she's my role model, so to have help from someone like that is brilliant.

:36:22.:36:24.

I wouldn't be here without them. Jess, you're a star. You were

:36:25.:36:28.

fantastic last year and I have a feeling you might be better this

:36:29.:36:31.

year. I hope soft. Thank you very much. It takes you back doesn't it

:36:32.:36:39.

getting PBs and the joy of going out and running or jumping. It was

:36:40.:36:44.

interesting. We got the result before Jessica did. We were waiting

:36:45.:36:48.

to explain to her. As soon as she realised what we said, she jumped up

:36:49.:36:52.

and down. It was brilliant to see. This is a great start for her. She

:36:53.:36:58.

gained a lot of experience in a busy field taking on great athletes.

:36:59.:37:03.

Massive ticks all the way. She talked about getting back into

:37:04.:37:08.

training. Having missed a lot through injury, not to run out of

:37:09.:37:15.

steam by running too much too soon? She has maturity, which will see her

:37:16.:37:19.

through if you think about it. She has a lot of good people around her.

:37:20.:37:25.

That will fill her with confidence. Last year was a learning curve.

:37:26.:37:30.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for the Commonwealth Games and for her

:37:31.:37:34.

the trials. Whatever happens for the rest of the night, it's been

:37:35.:37:39.

fantastic. Next up is the women's 400 metres. No Christine Ohurugu.

:37:40.:37:59.

I'm slightly disappointed but this is a good competitive field. When we

:38:00.:38:05.

are talking about track and field athletes it is about the head to

:38:06.:38:07.

head. Back to the come at a timers. Pretty good by Natasha Hastings.

:38:08.:39:15.

Montsho beginning to eat up the ground. Making ground on

:39:16.:39:22.

Williams-Mills now. On the outside Hall going pretty well. As they come

:39:23.:39:37.

through to 300 metres, in lane 4 is Montsho. Williams Mills coming BAE

:39:38.:39:48.

now and Hastings is coming through. Williams Mills winning this one.

:39:49.:39:56.

Once again the Jamaican shows real form. She won in Shanghai. Ran a 49.

:39:57.:40:05.

8 split in the relaze competition recently. It was a pretty hard

:40:06.:40:15.

battle wasn't it? It was, but that is a perfect three for her. Look at

:40:16.:40:27.

her pumping the arms. There is a worry about Montsho's form. She went

:40:28.:40:31.

off very aggressively and paid the price down the home strait.

:40:32.:40:38.

Williams-Mills at the age of 32, like a fine wine she's getting

:40:39.:40:42.

better and better. Just outside 50 seconds there, but it will come.

:40:43.:40:57.

Colin, worrying form for Montsho. You do worry how much of an impact

:40:58.:41:02.

that loss to Christine that will be. She had that world title in the bag

:41:03.:41:06.

it seemed, but didn't run through the line. It's been tough for her.

:41:07.:41:14.

It is tough. For any athlete when you were expecting to deliver and it

:41:15.:41:21.

is snatched from you, you can imagine how frustrating it can. But

:41:22.:41:25.

she's a class act. She knows what it can take to get to this level. You

:41:26.:41:30.

can understand she will be a little disappointed. But that run by

:41:31.:41:37.

Novlene was pretty strong. She's lost many world titles in that same

:41:38.:41:42.

situation, where she had it snatched at the last second. We heard the

:41:43.:41:48.

conditions are blustery. That was worth sub-50? I think so. That I

:41:49.:41:56.

think was a run that was there or thereabouts, so it is on its way.

:41:57.:42:01.

Lots of action in the field, but let's catch up with the women's long

:42:02.:42:12.

jump. That is the lead. You can see the

:42:13.:42:18.

graphic line over the pit. It has got to be seven metres. Hits the

:42:19.:42:23.

board spot on. That's as perfect as it gets. Lovely hang, good leg

:42:24.:42:28.

shoot. Follows through. Doesn't sit back on it that. Surely is close on

:42:29.:42:36.

seven metres. The lead by a good margin. World long jump champion in

:42:37.:42:46.

2005 remember. A re-emergence here. Got a world best... Oh, 7. 02 and

:42:47.:42:56.

that's a new world best. She's US just bettered her -- she's just

:42:57.:43:02.

bettered her previous result. She takes the lead.

:43:03.:43:09.

Renaud Lavillenie, a first attempt at 5. 70 metres.

:43:10.:43:16.

He is sun inhibited, does what he has to do. So uncomplicated

:43:17.:43:25.

mind-wise. Oh yes, I think he is pleased with that. He's quick. He's

:43:26.:43:33.

athletic. The plant was superb. He injects real force into that pole,

:43:34.:43:39.

which kindly gives it back to him. He clears that comfortably.

:43:40.:43:40.

Absolutely superb. with Asha Philip and Jodie Williams.

:43:41.:43:57.

We had a stunning performance in the men's 100m. The time got us all by

:43:58.:44:04.

surprise. It was a strong performance because

:44:05.:44:07.

it was a competitive race, a race where you finish runner-up to

:44:08.:44:14.

someone like Richard Thompson from Trinidad and Tobago. We have seen

:44:15.:44:17.

him go under 9.9 deal. We know that time is legit. That is always the

:44:18.:44:23.

first thing people ask. -- we have seen him go under 9.90. It was a

:44:24.:44:28.

class performance. He finished with a massive personal

:44:29.:44:33.

best and to this day he says he is still surprised to get round that

:44:34.:44:35.

quickly. We saw him in Manchester and there

:44:36.:44:40.

was not really an inkling that he had 9.96 in the tank, was there?

:44:41.:44:44.

Or, sometimes these things just happen. You have worked hard in the

:44:45.:44:51.

winter and things just click. That day he was competitive, the

:44:52.:44:53.

conditions were good. There were lots of great

:44:54.:44:57.

performances that weekend, so you have to think the conditions were

:44:58.:45:00.

pretty smart. It will put a good smile on his face and as I am

:45:01.:45:04.

concerned it really sets up our sports scene very well indeed.

:45:05.:45:09.

We will talk about that later on, Richard Kilty is also going later

:45:10.:45:14.

on. Now the women's 100m and two

:45:15.:45:18.

athletes who have been brilliant, Jodie Williams and Ashley Phillips,

:45:19.:45:22.

who are now looking to make it in the senior ranks. -- Asha Philip.

:45:23.:45:29.

We have seen already Asha Philip indoors showing she is at confident

:45:30.:45:34.

sprinter. Both of these athletes, as you say, where great juniors, and

:45:35.:45:38.

had their problems, as well. They had injuries, bad form, but it is

:45:39.:45:44.

their time to turn. They have that ability to turn. Asha Philip I saw

:45:45.:45:49.

earlier and she was really confident with a big smile, so I am hoping,

:45:50.:45:53.

really, that with these conditions she can deliver something special.

:45:54.:45:57.

They have both struggled with injury and when you are young you have such

:45:58.:46:01.

great hope and expectation, your career is in front of you, and it

:46:02.:46:04.

can be difficult to deal with, perhaps you do not have the maturity

:46:05.:46:07.

it takes to nurse yourself through as we have seen Jess Judd do.

:46:08.:46:12.

Not just that, it is having the right kind of people around who will

:46:13.:46:16.

help you through those dark moments because every single day is hell,

:46:17.:46:19.

living hell when you have a passion and desire to do something to the

:46:20.:46:26.

best of your ability. Jodie Williams, she has struggled

:46:27.:46:30.

with form, she has changed coaches and that kind of transition when you

:46:31.:46:34.

are young is difficult to happen -- to handle.

:46:35.:46:37.

Now it is important to shake it all out, put it behind you and train on

:46:38.:46:41.

what you love. When you have been this kind of

:46:42.:46:45.

child prodigy almost, people expect you to make that smooth transition,

:46:46.:46:51.

it is almost as if you need a couple of tough years to shake it off and

:46:52.:46:54.

start again. And that can build a whole career

:46:55.:46:58.

because now you start to believe in yourself.

:46:59.:47:01.

When you look back you think of all of the things you have gone through

:47:02.:47:05.

and managed to come back. It will put both athletes in good stead for

:47:06.:47:11.

the future. Now the women's 100m, no real dominant athletes like great

:47:12.:47:18.

opportunity. -- no dominant athletes, saw a great

:47:19.:47:20.

opportunity. Jodie Williams, former junior

:47:21.:47:27.

champion at 100m. 11 point 20 this season. Ezinne Okparaebo of Norway,

:47:28.:47:38.

record-holder at all sprint distances, very much a European

:47:39.:47:46.

affair, this. Then, for Jamaica, Alim Bailey,. She

:47:47.:48:00.

has 1116 this season. All very close. Asha Philip for Great

:48:01.:48:06.

Britain, fourth in the World Indoor Championships. Very competitive

:48:07.:48:17.

fare. She starts well. Cechova of Czechoslovakia, her personal best is

:48:18.:48:19.

11.19. Lee, Soumare, Lawson, Williams,

:48:20.:48:31.

Okparaebo, Bailey, Philip and Cechova.

:48:32.:48:34.

The women's 100m. I think that is lame three, that

:48:35.:49:00.

looked like Lakeisha Lawson to me. -- lane three. Was it Okparaebo?

:49:01.:49:07.

I saw a flinch from lane three, Lakeisha Lawson, unless someone else

:49:08.:49:10.

beat her to that. I think there is going to be a casualty here, Tim.

:49:11.:49:13.

I thought it was to the left. Let's look again, watch Okparaebo in the

:49:14.:49:20.

pink. The first which was from Jodie

:49:21.:49:26.

Williams, actually. -- the first twitch. We have already had a Rhys

:49:27.:49:30.

Williams disqualified. There were several problems there on

:49:31.:49:38.

the start. Let's hope that it is a green card. It looked as though

:49:39.:49:41.

there were a lot of people moving early. Okparaebo of Norway, I wonder

:49:42.:49:46.

whether it is her. She seemed to be worried a little bit.

:49:47.:49:54.

Now then, the officials making sure they have got it right on the

:49:55.:50:02.

electronic start. Here comes our card, what is it? Who is it? It is a

:50:03.:50:10.

yellow. It is like a get out of jail card!

:50:11.:50:14.

Right, let's breathe again! Lee, Soumare, Lawson, Williams,

:50:15.:50:30.

Okparaebo, Bailey, Philip and Cechova. The women's 100m.

:50:31.:50:38.

This is very nervous moments for these women. No one outstanding as a

:50:39.:50:43.

favourite in this race, let's be honest.

:50:44.:51:05.

I weigh this time, and certainly Okparaebo got well. Soumare was

:51:06.:51:13.

going strongly, very very strongly from the second lane. Soumare under

:51:14.:51:19.

Lawson, and are right on the inside, you know Lee. 11.18 the

:51:20.:51:27.

time. -- Muna Lee. Myriam Soumare has a best of 11.33

:51:28.:51:31.

this season. She looked very strong. She hit the front very

:51:32.:51:37.

early, 11.18 her time, and that is a season 's best.

:51:38.:51:42.

Just looking at Jodie Williams. Just losing a little bit of ground to

:51:43.:51:46.

Okparaebo on the near side, losing a lot of ground now.

:51:47.:51:52.

The top three lanes, as I said... They got out of the blocks very

:51:53.:51:57.

well. Jodie Williams was upright very quickly, did not get a

:51:58.:52:02.

brilliant start in lane before, but no doubting Soumare's dominance

:52:03.:52:06.

there, a comfortable win. Not the tidiest of sprinters, certainly in

:52:07.:52:10.

the latter stages it was becoming ragged, but Lakeisha Lawson to her

:52:11.:52:16.

late and I think Lee taking third place to her left. 11.18, up to

:52:17.:52:22.

11.24. That is clear daylight, in effect,

:52:23.:52:28.

in sprinting camps. That was a good run.

:52:29.:52:33.

Pretty even, then all of a sudden from lane two, Myriam Soumare

:52:34.:52:40.

started to move away. She made no mistake here at all.

:52:41.:52:45.

There is the result of that 100m, Soumare, 11.18, season 's best.

:52:46.:52:57.

11.414 Asha Philip, she is alongside me. Not that I you were looking for,

:52:58.:53:06.

tell us how that race was. It was a bit awkward.

:53:07.:53:08.

I got out of the start, the middle part was rusty.

:53:09.:53:13.

My coaching did not work out today, but the ending was strong which I

:53:14.:53:18.

have been working hard on. At least I can get to 100 and feel OK about

:53:19.:53:22.

it, it is just putting the whole race together.

:53:23.:53:25.

You see getting to 100, you were very strong at the end. What went

:53:26.:53:29.

wrong with the transition phase out of the start into the middle phase?

:53:30.:53:33.

I think I was thinking too much rather than running on my own race.

:53:34.:53:36.

I was contributing on other athletes, which is the wrong thing

:53:37.:53:39.

to do. At least I held it together to the end. Hopefully next time, I

:53:40.:53:44.

have not had that many races and I have not had violence, so I am sure

:53:45.:53:47.

by the second round I will be even better. You know, 11.41, I am not

:53:48.:53:53.

happy with the time, but it will come and I know it will. I think it

:53:54.:53:56.

will, good luck for the rest of the season, Asha Philip.

:53:57.:54:01.

It promises to be a great summer of sport in track and field.

:54:02.:55:08.

Yes, European Championships, Commonwealth Games, Diamond League

:55:09.:55:12.

already happening on the BBC committee should be a great watch,

:55:13.:55:15.

and the weekend after next we will be live in Germany for the European

:55:16.:55:20.

Championships, competing 14 points against the rest of Europe. In case

:55:21.:55:24.

you have been on the planet Mars or you have not been reading the papers

:55:25.:55:29.

or watching television, the World Cup - football - starts tomorrow.

:55:30.:55:35.

BBC1 at 10:35pm tomorrow night, Gary Lineker and the team in Rio with

:55:36.:55:37.

preview. Colin, who is your money on?

:55:38.:55:41.

Brazil. I am going to go Argentina.

:55:42.:55:48.

They got Player of the Year, what are you talking about?

:55:49.:55:53.

Big news at the moment circulating by the Telegraph, Mo Farah is going

:55:54.:55:59.

to run the 5000m and 10,000m in the Commonwealth Games.

:56:00.:56:01.

It is an interesting challenge for Mo Farah. They are to direct

:56:02.:56:10.

finals, so it will be much easier. It is nice to see him there. We were

:56:11.:56:17.

discussing earlier that he has done the -- European Championships and

:56:18.:56:22.

double World Championships, but he has not doubled the Commonwealth

:56:23.:56:25.

Games. It is fitting for him to do this, but it will be tough. There

:56:26.:56:28.

are a couple of competitors who are looking for Mo.

:56:29.:56:32.

They certainly are, the men's 1000m is up next, one of them really

:56:33.:56:43.

looking out for Mo will be Ndiku of Kenya, and he himself will be

:56:44.:56:48.

looking out for Galen Rupp. He is in great form. Let's see how

:56:49.:56:50.

this one pans out. They start in the two to lawns and

:56:51.:57:06.

will break as they come into the home straight.

:57:07.:57:10.

-- the two actual ons. There are two pacemakers, and we expect them to

:57:11.:57:24.

only run for three or four laps,. The second pacemaker will hope to

:57:25.:57:30.

take them to 3000. 62 seconds per lap. That works around 4.08 per

:57:31.:57:39.

mile, and that is for three miles. Soi has just moved up and he waved

:57:40.:57:44.

Rupp through, saying unit have to chase because the pacemakers have

:57:45.:57:48.

two other glance round, they are no use to anyone 20 metres in front.

:57:49.:57:52.

They are really not helping the vast majority of the field at the moment.

:57:53.:57:59.

Rupp is back in third place behind the two pacemakers. That is the

:58:00.:58:02.

reason the pack is some way down, with Galen Rupp now isolated in

:58:03.:58:06.

fourth place. He has surged down the back straight. He is trying to close

:58:07.:58:13.

up on the pacemakers but they went through much too quickly. That was

:58:14.:58:17.

59, 60 seconds. We have seen that happen on several

:58:18.:58:21.

races and it is a bit worrying when you wonder who asked for the pace.

:58:22.:58:26.

Certainly, you have some experience in there, but Rupp is making no

:58:27.:58:30.

mistakes whatsoever, is he? Julius Yego, first round of the

:58:31.:58:54.

javelin for him, of Kenya. Fourth in the World Championships in Moscow

:58:55.:58:58.

last year. Very strong.

:58:59.:59:04.

That is just over the 80. The wind is not helping terribly, they need

:59:05.:59:15.

just a slight wind over their throwing shoulder to execute a

:59:16.:59:17.

really good throw with these modern designed javelins. Julius Yego,

:59:18.:59:32.

80.83 he leads at the moment. Shara Proctor, this is her fourth round

:59:33.:59:42.

jump. 6. 49 her best so far. That certainly looked better. A good

:59:43.:59:48.

approach. Hit the board quite well. Hit the board very well indeed.

:59:49.:59:54.

White flag confirms that's a good hit on the board. Nice little hang.

:59:55.:59:58.

Long position in the middle of that jump. Good control. What's she got?

:59:59.:00:13.

Still waiting. 6. 78. A season's best. Second place. That's better.

:00:14.:00:23.

Vitezslav Vesely in the javelin is the reigning world and European

:00:24.:00:33.

champion. He's won the last two seasons, in 2012 and #13rks. He's --

:00:34.:00:50.

in 2012 and 2013. That I think is good enough to take the lead. 83 or

:00:51.:01:04.

thereabouts for Vesely. He threw that distance in London qualifying,

:01:05.:01:12.

but only 373. 34 in the final. 383. 17 takes him into the lead. -- 83.

:01:13.:01:24.

17 takes him into the lead. The two pacemakers are still isolated. They

:01:25.:01:30.

need to drop back and make contact with the pack and drag them up into

:01:31.:01:33.

a decent tempo. Rupp leads the pack between the game

:01:34.:01:56.

makers. Alamirew and Koech and Lopez Lomong and Gebremeskel is there as

:01:57.:02:03.

well. So is Ndiku, the tall figure in 10th place. I won't tell you he

:02:04.:02:10.

is wearing a yellow vest, as that doesn't help any of us. They are

:02:11.:02:21.

coming towards 2,000 metres. That's pedestrian for men of this calibre.

:02:22.:02:27.

At this rate they will struggle to break 13 minutes.

:02:28.:02:39.

Rupp is in second and Alamirew is third. Then Koech, Lomong, Ndiku.

:02:40.:02:50.

The tall figure Ndiku looking up at the big screen to see what's going

:02:51.:02:57.

on. 64. 49, that's a 65 second lap. It is a great shape. They were not

:02:58.:03:07.

doing anything like what was planned. That happens so often these

:03:08.:03:14.

days where we are told about a pace that's requested and it doesn't

:03:15.:03:20.

happen. Yes, and this race will be a negative split in terms of what

:03:21.:03:27.

happens in the second part, because Rupp will want to show real form

:03:28.:03:32.

here but he's been let down by the pace overall of this race.

:03:33.:03:37.

Pacemakers haven't been that helpful thus far. Ndiku is always in the

:03:38.:03:42.

right place at the right time. He's got a terrific finish on him. He is

:03:43.:03:55.

in 17th place at the moment. That's a bit quicker on that lap. It has

:03:56.:04:00.

picked up, but that's the pacemaker I think.

:04:01.:04:13.

Maltre Mohr a third and final vault. If Maltre Mohr had to beat

:04:14.:04:29.

Lavillenie he would have had to have a greater hate. No, he's gone and

:04:30.:04:34.

Lavillenie has won yet another and stands alone with three vaults all

:04:35.:04:46.

clear. The javelin, Yego's second attempt. 80. 383 in the first round.

:04:47.:04:57.

-- 80. 83 in the first round. That looks a little better. He really is

:04:58.:05:04.

a hour house. There's no finesse about him. He really does give it a

:05:05.:05:16.

wallop, that 800 gram javelin. Whacks it hard. Second place at the

:05:17.:05:22.

moment. The wind is causing a problem, as it did in Eugene.

:05:23.:05:33.

They've gone through 3,000. They are 10-15 seconds outside what was asked

:05:34.:05:38.

for. Nobody prepared to commit themselves and push it along that

:05:39.:05:43.

pack or make contact with the pacemakers, which is a shame. So

:05:44.:05:47.

many of these men have broken 13 minutes. The aim for Galen Rupp this

:05:48.:05:54.

season is to win races with aggression, to be more determined to

:05:55.:06:01.

win. The times are secondary. In Eugene they had the bonus of a

:06:02.:06:07.

fabulous win and a quick time. Imane Merga has separated from the pack.

:06:08.:06:15.

Rop leading from Rupp. Then Alamirew. Koech in fourth.

:06:16.:06:25.

Pitkamaki, a second throw for him. He became a dad on Monday. Wife and

:06:26.:06:32.

baby are doing well. He's got a son. And that could be around 84 on that

:06:33.:06:37.

line. I think that could well be the lead. That looks a limb better for

:06:38.:06:46.

Pitkamaki. He's had his ups and downs in the last few seasons. The

:06:47.:06:57.

battles with Andreas Thorkildsen in 2008. He's lost a lot of sleep, he

:06:58.:07:03.

says. Being a dad's not easy. We know that don't we? Here they go

:07:04.:07:08.

with three laps to go. They've slowed on that one. Nobody is

:07:09.:07:16.

prepared to be the first to go. Rop is up against the likes of Ndiku,

:07:17.:07:22.

Gebremeskel and Alamirew. Gebremeskel won here in 2012, the

:07:23.:07:28.

last time 5,000 was held in this stadium. Ang ang, what's he --

:07:29.:07:45.

Kangogo, what's he doing there. They have just oh two laps to go. Galen

:07:46.:07:53.

Rupp paying close attention to the front end. It is Longosiwa from al,

:07:54.:08:00.

a then Rupp, then Kangogo, and then a gap to the others with this

:08:01.:08:07.

acceleration. Two laps to run. That lap was a 61. 04. No wonder gaps

:08:08.:08:16.

appeared. 60. 8 for the front end of that field. They head into the back

:08:17.:08:23.

straight. Longosiwa in the orange. Alamirew. Rupp, and this is a long,

:08:24.:08:31.

long drive for home. This is more like a 1,500 metre race. Longosiwa

:08:32.:08:36.

is determined to make them pay for their dallying around. He was second

:08:37.:08:41.

in Shanghai. Fourth in the World Championships last year. He's not to

:08:42.:08:48.

be messed with. Coached by a former world record holder in the

:08:49.:08:51.

steeplechase. Longosiwa, with Alamirew. Now Ndiku, the dangerman

:08:52.:08:57.

moving up, alongside Galen Rupp, who is going to be sweeperly tested. - -

:08:58.:09:04.

severely tested. They go through the bell. About 12. 06 at the bell. 58.

:09:05.:09:19.

8 that lap. They've run - is this where Rupp pays. Even Ndiku is left

:09:20.:09:25.

at the moment. Alamirew from Longosiwa. Ndiku, biding his time.

:09:26.:09:33.

He and Rupp closing up on the two in front of them. Alamirew looks to

:09:34.:09:39.

have slowed on purpose. A glance over his shoulder. Longosiwa looks

:09:40.:09:44.

spent. Ndiku rallies with 150 to run. Galen Rupp has got to dig deep.

:09:45.:09:50.

This is a man who had a wonderful win but he's been outsmarted this

:09:51.:09:57.

time. It is Alamirew who comes away to take the win here. He takes it.

:09:58.:10:04.

Ndiku second. Rupp for third place, Longosiwa in fourth and the rest are

:10:05.:10:13.

way back. That last three laps 55. 4 that final lap. Something like 2.

:10:14.:10:21.

54, but my timing is never that good. I'm sure the last mile about

:10:22.:10:32.

3. 58. The winning time 13. 01. 13.01.58, a world best this year. To

:10:33.:10:38.

some degree a business disappointing. -- a bit

:10:39.:10:44.

disappointing. When the field is so strong and the build-up so big be,

:10:45.:10:54.

you want the clock to look great. Rupp held on in the end and the race

:10:55.:10:59.

did speed up, as we thought it would. It is a shame it didn't go a

:11:00.:11:08.

bit quicker early on. One or two excited by the victory. The

:11:09.:11:19.

Ethiopians reigning investment let's talk about Galen Rupp. They are

:11:20.:11:24.

challenging this orthodoxy that's grown up over the last decade or so

:11:25.:11:29.

that you have to be African to be successful in the long distances.

:11:30.:11:41.

Yes, there is a huge belief in that. It is installed into many distance

:11:42.:11:45.

runners that if we work hard and play as a team, we too can run these

:11:46.:11:52.

phenomenal performances. That's why Mo took himself over to the United

:11:53.:11:56.

States and settled in, knowing they this the right mind-set into

:11:57.:12:01.

delivering the good performances when it mattered. It is pretty good

:12:02.:12:05.

that we see the United States returning to good distance and

:12:06.:12:11.

mid-distance running. And possibly that barrier was psychological. It

:12:12.:12:16.

could be proved that way. But you still need the talent, and Galen

:12:17.:12:21.

Rupp has that. 5,000 metres one of the highlights this evening. This is

:12:22.:12:30.

what else you've missed. Teenageary Jessica Judd ran a PB in

:12:31.:12:34.

the 800 metres after a winter of injury. Eunice Sum was the win we

:12:35.:12:47.

are. Jessica Judd in third place. Tianna Bartoletta jumped a record.

:12:48.:12:53.

In the pole vault Renaud Lavillenie, the world record hold her, he is

:12:54.:12:58.

going to go even higher. . If he does, you will see it here on the

:12:59.:13:02.

BBC. Earlier we saw the men's triple the

:13:03.:13:06.

jump. Phillips Idowu didn't perform so well. First here's the 1, 2, 3 in

:13:07.:13:13.

that event. The men's triple jump, over nine men

:13:14.:13:20.

in the world have gone over 13 metres. In round two he went up to

:13:21.:13:31.

16 metres and that led to the fourth round. Three other efforts were over

:13:32.:13:36.

16 metres in a swirling wind, but nowhere near 17. Second place went

:13:37.:13:43.

to Christian Taylor. He's been together with 400 metres in recent

:13:44.:13:48.

weeks and almost gone under 45 seconds. That's probably cost him

:13:49.:13:53.

some form and distance. Here tonight 17. 15 was respectable enough in

:13:54.:13:59.

round five, backed up bay 17. 12 in the sixth and final round.

:14:00.:14:24.

behind Taylor, not exactly a consolation but unimpressive win by

:14:25.:14:28.

a sizeable margin. That raised a big cheer from the crowd.

:14:29.:14:42.

The final result, will clear and Christian Taylor over 17 metres. --

:14:43.:15:05.

Will Claye. From one Americans are to another, Galen Rupp. Conditions

:15:06.:15:09.

were not good tonight? Yes, the faster pace at the start of

:15:10.:15:13.

the race suited me better, but I have been saying all year that I

:15:14.:15:16.

really wanted to work on my tactics and this was a great place to

:15:17.:15:21.

practice that. I think I have made a lot of improvement since last year,

:15:22.:15:25.

finishing close to some of these guys and beating them at the end,

:15:26.:15:28.

but a little bit more work to do. Colin Jackson and I were talking

:15:29.:15:32.

about this orthodoxy that you have to be an African to win a five --

:15:33.:15:39.

5000m or 10,000m. You seem to be breaking that down. Yes, they are

:15:40.:15:42.

human too. Obviously they worked very hard and

:15:43.:15:45.

they are very talented and hard to beat, but I think that Americans are

:15:46.:15:50.

starting to realise just how hard you need to train to keep up with

:15:51.:15:54.

them. There are no short cuts in distance running, it takes a lot of

:15:55.:15:58.

miles, a lot of intensity, and I am just happy to be part of the group

:15:59.:16:03.

that is closing the gap. Also, we have heard that Mo Farah will double

:16:04.:16:06.

up at the Commonwealth Games. You may have the inside information

:16:07.:16:09.

on that, you don't have to comment on that, but if he does he has a

:16:10.:16:12.

tough thing on his hands with the Kenyans?

:16:13.:16:16.

Definitely, they are already in great shape. A lot of them have said

:16:17.:16:22.

that, but he has definitely come back well from the marathon. I have

:16:23.:16:26.

been surprised at how well he has bounced back, he is healthy, doing

:16:27.:16:30.

great and I will be looking forward to running with him at the

:16:31.:16:34.

Commonwealth. Galen Rupp, thank you for talking to us, good luck with

:16:35.:16:37.

the record. That go back to the pole vault. How

:16:38.:16:42.

high can the winner go? The third and final attempt at 5.834

:16:43.:16:47.

Renaud Lavillenie. He has won the event from

:16:48.:16:50.

Konstantinos Filippidis. 5.70. No, no, no. Well, not today. No six

:16:51.:17:07.

metres today. The record, incidentally, is six metres here,

:17:08.:17:08.

back in 1999. This man is clearly at the top of

:17:09.:17:18.

his game in every sense at the moment.

:17:19.:17:23.

He wins it, 5.8 three, three failures.

:17:24.:17:28.

No six metres for Renaud Lavillenie, but I am sure that will come, most

:17:29.:17:33.

likely in Zurich in the European Championships. You can see them on

:17:34.:17:35.

the BBC. Next up is the 110 metres hurdles,

:17:36.:17:40.

how fast did you run that here? I cannot remember, around 13.20, I

:17:41.:17:46.

think. The warm up was very difficult in

:17:47.:17:51.

those days, now it is difficult. I am loving that this race is

:17:52.:17:55.

competitive. You could not genuinely call this a race, and that makes it

:17:56.:18:01.

a mouthwatering prospect for me. Of course, Will Sharman from Great

:18:02.:18:05.

Britain is in the mix. He could, we have with a victory, he has already

:18:06.:18:09.

been to some of the world was Michael Best. -- he could come away

:18:10.:18:12.

with a victory. I am getting excited, I apologise. -- he has

:18:13.:18:20.

already beaten some of the world's best. This has not come alive in

:18:21.:18:23.

really quick times. It has not, but the races have been

:18:24.:18:27.

competitive. I like to see the Europeans in the

:18:28.:18:33.

mix and the lead belongs to a Frenchman who happens to be lining

:18:34.:18:36.

up today. You like him, you think this guy can go quit.

:18:37.:18:41.

Yes, Pascal Martinot-Lagarde is confident and believes in himself,

:18:42.:18:43.

there is talented. When you are in good shape and you

:18:44.:18:48.

are competent runner, he has a real opportunity of getting quicker and

:18:49.:18:51.

quicker and quicker. I think his first target now is looking at that

:18:52.:19:02.

French record, 12.97, that is fast. Jason Richardson that, former world

:19:03.:19:05.

champion. Good to see Will Sharman getting back to something like his

:19:06.:19:08.

best. When I was speaking to him earlier I

:19:09.:19:12.

said, even though he is frustrated he is not turning over those very

:19:13.:19:16.

quick times, the most important thing is the victories. Use beating

:19:17.:19:22.

people like Parchment on a regular basis. -- he is beating. Exactly

:19:23.:19:29.

what we like to see. I am scanning the field, looking at

:19:30.:19:34.

how everyone will do. Who will take this?

:19:35.:19:40.

Shubenkov, one of his big contenders in the European Championships. The

:19:41.:19:44.

defending European champion, bronze medal in 2010, there is competition,

:19:45.:19:46.

too. Sit and watch this with me.

:19:47.:19:51.

The men's 100m ice 110 metres hurdles. -- the men's 110 metres

:19:52.:19:57.

hurdles. This should be a very tough race

:19:58.:20:02.

indeed, and a close one, too. Court, Richard Summa -- Richardson,

:20:03.:20:11.

Vukicevic, Martinot-Lagarde, Parchment, Shubenkov, Riley,

:20:12.:20:15.

Sharman. The men's 110 metres hurdles.

:20:16.:20:35.

He has emerged this season, fast link speed, he came off the hurdles

:20:36.:20:41.

so well in Eugene. Well, the Frenchman got away well,

:20:42.:20:55.

Hansle Parchment going well, too, but Pascal Martinot-Lagarde is

:20:56.:21:00.

leading this by a big margin, 13.14. He takes it very comfortably. I did

:21:01.:21:04.

not think he would win it by that much. Absolutely superb, just one

:21:05.:21:09.

tenth of a second outside of the world lead, into a slight headwind

:21:10.:21:12.

of 0.6 metres per second. He emerged from the field, and we

:21:13.:21:18.

will take you through the line-up of the race again in a moment...

:21:19.:21:27.

Andrew Riley, the Jamaican... It has been rendered down, I was

:21:28.:21:32.

saying Andrew Riley got the second place and Shubenkov got third.

:21:33.:21:38.

They really attacked the first hurdle, look how quickly the

:21:39.:21:41.

Frenchman gets down to the deck. Richardson was going well at this

:21:42.:21:44.

stage and Shubenkov in the yellow top was going well as well.

:21:45.:21:50.

Parchment feeding a little bit in the final stages. -- fading.

:21:51.:21:57.

That was the striking feature on his win at Rome last we are -- last

:21:58.:22:04.

week. It is so quick, his legs regain contact with the ground and

:22:05.:22:08.

start driving towards the next barrier.

:22:09.:22:12.

That is a big margin, 13.12 with a 0.6 metres per second wind.

:22:13.:22:19.

This lad's record by the end of the season will of a special club.

:22:20.:22:24.

Will Sharman, 13.38, hopefully we will speak to him very shortly.

:22:25.:22:30.

But the Frenchman, Martinot-Lagarde, it looked a class apart.

:22:31.:22:37.

It looked very good indeed. I'm surprised he took such a huge

:22:38.:22:41.

margin. 13.12 is a world lead. On this track

:22:42.:22:46.

in Oslo, I am very surprised. I know now, he can be pretty confident he

:22:47.:22:53.

can go even quicker and get close to that 12.97 French record.

:22:54.:22:57.

He is still quite young for a high hurdler. When you keep that in mind,

:22:58.:23:00.

you can see he was getting close to the barriers and that means he has

:23:01.:23:05.

not quite mature committee cannot generate enough leg speed. That will

:23:06.:23:09.

come with maturity. If he keeps working hard and winning these

:23:10.:23:14.

races, you will get more confident. It is almost as if he looks as if he

:23:15.:23:17.

cannot sprint fully in between because he has such a range in

:23:18.:23:20.

stride. You used to run hard in between

:23:21.:23:24.

hurdles, just a little bit shorter, not that much, but a little bit, so

:23:25.:23:28.

what do you do to get quicker when you cannot really...

:23:29.:23:33.

There is Shubenkov, just giving a little bit of respect to the man

:23:34.:23:35.

here. No, he is very good, very strong. He

:23:36.:23:42.

will have to pick up his knees in between, that will make the

:23:43.:23:44.

difference in his performance, ultimately.

:23:45.:23:48.

We are talking about Martinot-Lagarde. That was a good

:23:49.:23:51.

run by him, perhaps we need to grab him later, too.

:23:52.:23:56.

It was tight after Pascal Martinot-Lagarde, because he was

:23:57.:23:59.

very strong from the blocks, took the lead and did not back up.

:24:00.:24:04.

Yes, the warm up from blocks was going really well. I thought, just

:24:05.:24:07.

leave it at one rap because it felt great.

:24:08.:24:11.

I did not want to go out there and be undercooked. Maybe I did too

:24:12.:24:17.

much. But it was going really well. I thought I finished strong and

:24:18.:24:21.

pushed away from the other guys around me, but I raced hard the

:24:22.:24:26.

other day and I can still feel that race in my lead lag. I have muscle

:24:27.:24:31.

soreness, for people that don't know. -- my lead leg. I know I can

:24:32.:24:38.

go quicker, I give my best shot on the day and they are the best guys

:24:39.:24:41.

in the world. I think sometimes people have to

:24:42.:24:45.

realise, these are the best competitors. You are in the mix

:24:46.:24:48.

there and beating a lot of them regularly, that has to give you

:24:49.:24:51.

confidence. Yes, there is one guy in there that

:24:52.:24:55.

beat me before, but I smashed him the other day. I would like to be

:24:56.:25:00.

consistent, and I am more consistent. Normally I'm not running

:25:01.:25:03.

these times until the back end of the season so it is looking good.

:25:04.:25:08.

Pascal is European leader at the moment, world lead, and I enjoy

:25:09.:25:12.

racing him. When I saw him at the will tell I was so excited, I

:25:13.:25:17.

thought, bring it on! -- when I saw him at the hotel.

:25:18.:25:21.

I can imagine you are excited, we are hoping he will take the victory

:25:22.:25:27.

next time. Thank you, Will. And he can talk.

:25:28.:25:31.

Let's had up to the women's high jump.

:25:32.:25:35.

Here she goes, 1.95. That is nice. That, very confident

:25:36.:25:44.

indeed for someone whose personal best from earlier this season is

:25:45.:25:50.

just 1.98. She won in Shanghai and one of the small meetings prior to

:25:51.:25:55.

that, then won in Beijing, she is putting together a very good CV, so

:25:56.:26:00.

to speak. The women's high jump has been going

:26:01.:26:04.

on for some time now, and this is Maria Kuchina.

:26:05.:26:10.

She has a third and final attempt at 1.95, very important jump. Ana Simic

:26:11.:26:27.

is the only one to clear up 1.95. She becomes the second person to

:26:28.:26:32.

clear, goes into second place in this high jump. She put it quite

:26:33.:26:38.

hard, but she is the youth Olympic champion of 2010, call hold of the

:26:39.:26:41.

world title just recently in the early part of this year. -- core

:26:42.:26:54.

holder. -- co-holder. Next up it is the women's 200m,

:26:55.:26:58.

Jodie Williams back in action, but watch out for the Olympic champion,

:26:59.:26:59.

Allyson Felix. There is the Bulgarian, Yvette Love

:27:00.:27:17.

over, European champion at 100m 2012, which makes is still reigning

:27:18.:27:21.

European champion. She has lain number two.

:27:22.:27:24.

The tight inside line is reserved for Irene Ekelund, world youth

:27:25.:27:30.

champion last year. She is just 17 years old, talent to be cherished

:27:31.:27:33.

and nurtured, this Swede. Allyson Felix, still on the comeback

:27:34.:27:40.

trail. She has had just a couple of races this year, fourth in

:27:41.:27:46.

Shanghai, then third in Eugene over 200m, 22.44. She said to me in

:27:47.:27:50.

Eugene she is still getting pain in that hamstring. It is not 100% but

:27:51.:27:56.

good enough to warm up on, train on and indeed to race on. In lane five,

:27:57.:28:01.

Felix, good God. She will have to go well because she will be tracing

:28:02.:28:04.

Soumare. Irene Ekelund, Yvette Llanover,

:28:05.:28:17.

Jeneba Tarmoh, Murielle Ahoure, Allyson Felix, Myriam Soumare, Jodie

:28:18.:28:22.

Williams, Barbie and clear -- Barbara Pierre.

:28:23.:28:28.

Not entirely clear what is causing all of this noise in the stadium,

:28:29.:28:35.

but in any case they are starting to bring them up. They are running to

:28:36.:28:41.

three minutes late at the moment. Allyson Felix is the fastest in the

:28:42.:28:46.

field. I cannot believe that the age of 28, Allyson Felix has been around

:28:47.:28:49.

for such a long time, this is her first time ever racing in Oslo.

:28:50.:29:03.

Second time of asking, then. The big names, Murielle Ahoure in

:29:04.:29:15.

four, Allyson Felix and five. Moving well in lane four is Ahoure

:29:16.:29:22.

alongside Allyson Felix. Third from right, Jeneba Tarmoh

:29:23.:29:24.

moving well. Lots of strength in the form to go

:29:25.:29:28.

clear of these athletes, and she is off. Felix is coming back, her

:29:29.:29:32.

season is returning to something like she is used to, she wins by two

:29:33.:29:37.

or three metres and the strength showing therein the last 50 from

:29:38.:29:40.

Allyson Felix as she eases away from those to her left. Those in lane

:29:41.:29:48.

four And lane three both run a better bend than her but she ran

:29:49.:29:52.

like a real 200m runner. She held her form all the way to the line

:29:53.:29:57.

just as the others began to fade. A big result for Jodie Williams

:29:58.:30:01.

because she has given in second place in 22.97. Look cat on the

:30:02.:30:05.

outside, that cannot be right. She comes through very strongly in the

:30:06.:30:08.

end. She did! A cracking run, she was so far down. Jodie Williams

:30:09.:30:15.

right on the outside in the seventh lane, very strong finish indeed. Ken

:30:16.:30:21.

three had a terrific bend, she was way ahead when they came out of the

:30:22.:30:25.

bend into the straight, but Felix's transition was good. Jodie Williams,

:30:26.:30:29.

coming into second place according to our computer. It was very close,

:30:30.:30:34.

blanket finish for the rest. Ahoure faded a little bit, but it is good

:30:35.:30:39.

to see Alex putt Allyson Felix back in business. Such a great champion,

:30:40.:30:44.

Olympic golds from 2012, winner of a record eighth Championship golds

:30:45.:30:53.

outdoors. We hope to speak to Alison letter. But from a British

:30:54.:30:59.

perspective, Jody Williams, finished like a train.

:31:00.:31:01.

perspective, Jody Williams, finished like She had a storming finish.

:31:02.:31:06.

Running against her all-time idol in this class field. We've seen what

:31:07.:31:13.

people have produced here has been sensational. The place is a little

:31:14.:31:25.

different. Here she is now, a tremendous performance by Jody. Come

:31:26.:31:30.

join us. A brilliant run off the back of that 100m. You looked tired

:31:31.:31:36.

towards the end but the way you finished, you must be delighted.

:31:37.:31:45.

Yes, it was a really strong field. I think the start threw me off a bit

:31:46.:31:54.

but by can't complain with -- I can't compete with that 200. I

:31:55.:32:02.

literally came off the track and went back, which was hard. I

:32:03.:32:07.

thought, forget about the 100, go and run the best you can in the 200.

:32:08.:32:13.

And up against Allyson Felix, yourself your heroes? Yes, it is

:32:14.:32:17.

crazy. Every time I race her, I can't believe I'm on the same track

:32:18.:32:23.

as her. I used to look up to her as a kid and now I'm a couple of lanes

:32:24.:32:30.

across the track. It's crazy. A nice job, so get yourself warmed down and

:32:31.:32:34.

recover. That really was a great performance. Thank you. Colin, a

:32:35.:32:39.

couple of great performances from our young sprinters. We talked about

:32:40.:32:44.

the pressure of them being great juniors and coming through the

:32:45.:32:48.

senior ranks. They both performed creditbly tonight. I love the fact

:32:49.:32:53.

that they were excited about their running. That's the most important

:32:54.:32:57.

thing, that they feel confident and comfortable in these conditions, and

:32:58.:33:02.

up against the best in the world. Indeed. Coming up is the Dream Mile.

:33:03.:33:07.

It is an event which has provided with us some amazing moments in

:33:08.:33:11.

track and field down through the years.

:33:12.:33:24.

This tremendous crowd are so used to records. Coe easing down slightly.

:33:25.:33:35.

The new world record. Is it to crack the world record? Yes, it is, cram

:33:36.:33:49.

has taken the world record. Bislett has the honour of yet another world

:33:50.:33:56.

record. A new world record for Great Britain and for Seb Coe. It's a

:33:57.:34:03.

world record! Bislett stadium comes to life. Yet another world record

:34:04.:34:11.

for Sebastian Coe. It is indeed an amazing record.

:34:12.:34:15.

Some great moments. The Dream Mile coming up shortly. I've been joined

:34:16.:34:20.

by Shara Proctor, second in the long jump. A season's best, getting

:34:21.:34:27.

towards your best now? Yes. I'm satisfied with a season's best but I

:34:28.:34:32.

want to jump further. I know I'm better than that. I'm being parity.

:34:33.:34:38.

I can't wait. Good performance. Go and get ready for the European team

:34:39.:34:42.

championships? No, I have nationals next. Good luck for that and we'll

:34:43.:34:47.

see you on the BBC soon tsunami. OK, the men's Dream Mile. It is what

:34:48.:34:55.

Oslo is all about. Chris O'Hare is competing for Great Britain, but

:34:56.:35:01.

watch out for Ayanleh Souleiman of Djibouti.

:35:02.:35:28.

Ayanleh Souleiman is a strong, aggressive racer.

:35:29.:35:41.

Four laps of the track. Previous winners reads like a who's who, Coe,

:35:42.:35:55.

Cram... More croft, Elliot. Six Britons have won this race before.

:35:56.:36:01.

Souleiman pumping along hard with that head-bobbing style of his. In

:36:02.:36:06.

contrast Matthew Centrowitz looks smooth there. Looking for a quick

:36:07.:36:12.

time here, Centrowitz. Help said he was frustrated with his 3. 50 in

:36:13.:36:18.

Eugene a couple of weeks back. Single file after just 300 metres.

:36:19.:36:24.

It is fast. We are looking for 56 seconds this first lap, nothing

:36:25.:36:28.

crazy. A couple of 57s is what's been asked for. 55. 06 by Bram Som,

:36:29.:36:35.

former European champion at 800 metres. That's pretty good. Most of

:36:36.:36:41.

that pack will have gone through in 56 seconds. Souleiman is in third

:36:42.:36:49.

place. Matthew Centrowitz is in fourth, Cronje the South African is

:36:50.:36:55.

in sixth. It is clipping along at a sensible tempo. I think that the

:36:56.:37:02.

people that matter are in the right place at the right time. Centrowitz

:37:03.:37:08.

is watching Souleiman, who is tucked in behind the pacemakers, looking

:37:09.:37:14.

strong. 3. 47 in Eugene was so impressive. They are all strung out

:37:15.:37:19.

now. There's a double level of mile here. They'll come up and see two

:37:20.:37:26.

laps to go in this Dream Mile. It is going to be tight. Centrowitz looks

:37:27.:37:31.

very comfortable indeed. He does, but that's his running

:37:32.:37:39.

style. Rono in second, Souleiman third, sent September and then

:37:40.:37:50.

Birgin -- Centrowitz and then Birgin. The pace maker has done a

:37:51.:38:02.

good job. One-and-a-half lap laps to run. Pretty much perfect. They can

:38:03.:38:09.

generate a quick time off this pace. Souleiman looking comfortable as he

:38:10.:38:15.

chases second pacemakers Rono, who is due to drop out at 1,200. They

:38:16.:38:23.

were looking at 2. 50 at three laps. APPLAUSE Souleiman from Centrowitz.

:38:24.:38:27.

Moving down the outside now, he could be a danger man, the former

:38:28.:38:36.

Ethiopian Tesfaye, who runs for Germany. This is slower than

:38:37.:38:40.

requested but they are all still there. 300 to run. Souleiman from

:38:41.:38:48.

Tesfaye. Centrowitz beginning to lose ground. Willis moving strongly

:38:49.:38:58.

in the orange. Looking good. Centrowitz has passed into fourth

:38:59.:39:03.

place. Crowd are on their feet. Souleiman is such a tough, tough

:39:04.:39:13.

customer. Souleiman with Tesfaye in second place. Willis in third.

:39:14.:39:18.

Ingebrigtsen having a marvellous run. Souleiman with Willis

:39:19.:39:23.

challenging for second place. Look at the time. 3. 49 from Willis and

:39:24.:39:30.

Tesfaye. Ingebrigtsen will have smashed his own Norwegian record.

:39:31.:39:34.

He's surely done 3751. The crowd loving that one. He is such a good

:39:35.:39:39.

competitor. Put him in a race where they are chasing world records and

:39:40.:39:44.

he might not be a factor, but where there's racing going on, and there

:39:45.:39:49.

was tonight, and he's always a danger. Henrik Ingebrigtsen. Whether

:39:50.:39:54.

you like that ponytail or not matters not a jot. He can perform,

:39:55.:39:59.

this lad. He's mixing it with the best of the for instance. Really

:40:00.:40:05.

good to see. Souleiman probably smarting after losing in Rome to

:40:06.:40:17.

Kiplgat. It is good to see Willis come out of that group. Tesfaye held

:40:18.:40:24.

that second place and looked very strong until Willis came past him.

:40:25.:40:33.

3. 49. A national record for Henrik Ingebrigtsen, 3. 50. 72. It was a

:40:34.:40:39.

race for everybody and Souleiman once again proves he is the man of

:40:40.:40:43.

the moment. No question about that. 3. 47 to 3. 49. Wonderful. ,ation of

:40:44.:40:51.

the win for Ayanleh Souleiman of Djibouti. The first three under 3.

:40:52.:40:57.

50. Henrik Ingebrigtsen, that fabulous national record, 3. 50. 72.

:40:58.:41:05.

The crowd love the Dream Mile and the pole vault. With me is Renaud

:41:06.:41:11.

Lavillenie. First time I've spoken to tow since you broke Sergei's

:41:12.:41:17.

record. Has it sunk into yet that you broke the record? It was crazy.

:41:18.:41:23.

Everybody was hoping to break that record that day, but it was more

:41:24.:41:29.

like a dream. For me it was just trying to do my best in that place.

:41:30.:41:34.

In fact everybody, in fact everything was perfect for me that

:41:35.:41:43.

day. I was really happy. In Moscow I was nervous because your team-mate

:41:44.:41:48.

looked like he would break my world record. I felt sick inside. What did

:41:49.:41:54.

Sergei say to you after you broke his record in his home town? For

:41:55.:41:58.

many years he is hoping a lot of things for me, so he was happy I did

:41:59.:42:06.

at this time in front of him. Now he is going over to something

:42:07.:42:11.

different. Of course, every record has to be broken, so even if it

:42:12.:42:18.

takes more than 20 years, it is still a record. In terms of your

:42:19.:42:26.

form so far outdoors, no 600 metres yet. I know you've had injury. How

:42:27.:42:32.

are you satisfied with your performance at the championships?

:42:33.:42:36.

Right now I have a long break with my ankle after the record. Right now

:42:37.:42:45.

I'm about to jump around 5. 80 and hopefully have a good win. We have a

:42:46.:42:52.

lot of time to prepare for at this time. I'm just waiting for good

:42:53.:42:59.

condition to be able to jump 5. 90, six metres, maybe higher. Today it

:43:00.:43:07.

was not possible to jump that pace but ping maybe in Lausanne or Paris

:43:08.:43:12.

I will show that I can be able to jump that high. I'm excited. We are

:43:13.:43:19.

excited about it too. I look forward to seeing you in Zurich. Thank you.

:43:20.:43:40.

is it hard to go on and take stock? It is perfect, and he enjoys this

:43:41.:43:46.

whole aspect of being a global star. And taking an icon's world record

:43:47.:43:49.

launches you're into that kind of stratosphere. For him he is enjoying

:43:50.:43:54.

the ride at the moment, let's see if he can get that ankle better and get

:43:55.:43:59.

that six metres mark. They love the Dream Mile here, and also the

:44:00.:44:02.

javelin, let's want catch up with that.

:44:03.:44:15.

Well, Tero Pitkamaki come in the fourth round of the javelin. He hit

:44:16.:44:19.

that one hard. That looked better and that is close

:44:20.:44:24.

to 85 metres. That could be good enough to take

:44:25.:44:29.

the lead. It is certainly 84, and that has to

:44:30.:44:31.

be the lead. Just waiting for that result to come

:44:32.:44:40.

up, and I have a feeling that the new dad, remember, he became a dad

:44:41.:44:48.

on Monday, 84.80, -- 84.18, season's best, first place.

:44:49.:44:54.

Maria Kuchina, third and final attempt at 2.01 in this high jump.

:44:55.:45:06.

No, no, no. She has gone. But, she is going to win this. She looked so

:45:07.:45:15.

solid until the third attempt at 1.95. But then she came back with a

:45:16.:45:29.

second time clearance at 1.98. Blanka Vlasic has one chance to go.

:45:30.:45:38.

Yes, 2.01 01 attempt left. When she is at her peak she would

:45:39.:45:42.

love this situation. No, she has got at all wrong.

:45:43.:45:45.

It's it on the way up and that is unlike her. She is about six foot

:45:46.:45:51.

five, she would normally clip it on the way down, but misjudged that

:45:52.:45:54.

one. Maybe she got too far from the bar. She actually clipped it with

:45:55.:45:58.

her elbow before most of her body got near it.

:45:59.:46:04.

Doesn't matter, three failures for bank of passage at 2.01.

:46:05.:46:09.

Solve competition from her, she is still enjoying her jumping, she has

:46:10.:46:12.

had such a dramatic time with that foot surgery back in January

:46:13.:46:17.

2012... Good to see Blanka Vlasic back in

:46:18.:46:21.

the mix, one of the real stars of track and field. Just one more event

:46:22.:46:25.

left here in Oslo, the men's 100m. There are two Brits, Adam Gemili and

:46:26.:46:30.

Richard Kilty, next to the top at international names.

:46:31.:46:44.

It is going to be a massive year for us both. Hopefully we will have some

:46:45.:46:50.

chance that winning medals into big championships this year.

:46:51.:46:56.

I think British printing is in one of the best places it has been for a

:46:57.:47:04.

while. The more and more guys we have got, the closer we can get to

:47:05.:47:08.

the Jamaicans, who are ahead of us and the moment.

:47:09.:47:12.

Well, this promises to be a tight 100m, I would imagine drama almost

:47:13.:47:43.

guaranteed. The extra dimensional from the British perspective as to

:47:44.:47:50.

chase that 9.96, which I am sure will play partly on Adam Gemili and

:47:51.:47:56.

Richard Kilty's mind. Yes, they will be thinking, they

:47:57.:47:59.

produced something fantastic, why cannot we? It has been a very

:48:00.:48:05.

impressive performance by our sprinters. Our women are leading the

:48:06.:48:09.

way at the moment and the guys will want to get in the mix. This field,

:48:10.:48:14.

don't underestimate them. There are nine men who have gone under ten

:48:15.:48:19.

seconds, and there are four of them in this competition today. It is a

:48:20.:48:24.

swift run we can expect. Richard Thompson is running, there is a good

:48:25.:48:34.

test to see where they really said in relation to him.

:48:35.:48:37.

Yes, he beat the record holder by 100th of a second.

:48:38.:48:42.

It is a talented race, this one, in so many aspects.

:48:43.:48:48.

Kim Collins, who is the grandfather of sprinting at the moment, right

:48:49.:48:51.

the way through to the beautiful boys.

:48:52.:48:53.

It will be exciting, people like Daniel Talbot, we can see that is

:48:54.:48:57.

really one of the strong relay runners, someone we can rely on, and

:48:58.:49:04.

great 200m runner. He will relish the opportunity to

:49:05.:49:07.

mix with a world-class field. It is exciting.

:49:08.:49:08.

Here in Bislett, the men's 100m. Watch out for Jimmy Vicaut, the

:49:09.:49:31.

Frenchman in lane three. A pretty even start. Vicaut got away

:49:32.:49:49.

well in lane three, moving very strongly indeed, and Kim Collins

:49:50.:49:52.

going well, here comes Thompson on the inside and it will be very close

:49:53.:49:57.

now. But it Vicaut or Thompson? It could have been Richard Thompson

:49:58.:50:01.

coming through strongly at the end, 10.03 into a headwind of 0.6 metres

:50:02.:50:07.

per second. Thompson had the last 20 metres or so, powered through.

:50:08.:50:11.

Vicaut looked as though he had got that race tied up, didn't he? Have a

:50:12.:50:17.

look at this, Vicaut got away well in the third lane.

:50:18.:50:21.

Adam Gemili working hard, did not get into the race in the first 60

:50:22.:50:24.

metres. No, Gemili working very hard to get

:50:25.:50:31.

past Collins, but in the meantime Thompson and Vicaut had got away

:50:32.:50:34.

from him. Roscommon is a big lad committee

:50:35.:50:37.

takes a while for him to get going, but once he gets into full flow he

:50:38.:50:41.

takes some catching. Thompson is a class performance,

:50:42.:50:46.

easy to forget his personal best is 9.85, years one metre quicker than

:50:47.:50:52.

Vicaut on paper. -- he is one metre quicker. That quality may be showed

:50:53.:50:55.

in the last six strides with Thompson maintaining his form

:50:56.:50:58.

better. Yes, Richard Thompson, big strong

:50:59.:51:03.

fellow, recently ran a 9.74. There was no wind gauge, but he said

:51:04.:51:07.

it was about plus four metres per second, he was very honest about it!

:51:08.:51:13.

He said I did not, even without a wind machine it was not a genuine

:51:14.:51:17.

performance. Adam Gemili gets through in third place, a good lad,

:51:18.:51:21.

he comes through strongly. Richard Kilty did not get away well in lane

:51:22.:51:25.

two, way off the pace. Richard Thompson from Trinidad and Tobago

:51:26.:51:29.

coming through very strongly to take the ways away from Jimmy Vicaut, who

:51:30.:51:33.

looked very much as though he was going to win that. Vicaut got third

:51:34.:51:39.

in Eugene, incidentally, a very good performance. And Thompson, well,

:51:40.:51:44.

couple of Olympic silvers from Beijing in 2008.

:51:45.:51:48.

You have to say, there are no flies on these youngsters now, self ease

:51:49.:51:50.

galore. -- self -- self Well, I have the British lads

:51:51.:52:17.

alongside me, Adam Gemili me, Daniel Talbot and Richard Kilty.

:52:18.:52:24.

Let's start with you, another place in the Diamond League, the start was

:52:25.:52:28.

probably not the stronger. It never is. Usually the second half of my

:52:29.:52:32.

race is the better parts I am trying to work hard and get that bit as

:52:33.:52:36.

well as I can to stay next to these guys.

:52:37.:52:38.

I was next to Kim Collins and Richard Thompson, and they are some

:52:39.:52:42.

of the best starters in the world. I tried to execute and did not do the

:52:43.:52:46.

best I could tonight. But fair play, it is OK.

:52:47.:52:49.

You came through strongly at the end and I had talked you would focus on

:52:50.:52:54.

the 200m at the trials. -- I heard talk.

:52:55.:52:59.

Tell us your thoughts for the rest of the season.

:53:00.:53:05.

For me, obviously at one of the championships everyone was shocked.

:53:06.:53:10.

He came second in Manchester and he did not even get an interview, but

:53:11.:53:13.

he has proven himself and done really well. Army for the rest of

:53:14.:53:17.

the season I am still undecided, I have to make decisions with my

:53:18.:53:20.

coach, I am still undecided, but potentially the 200m.

:53:21.:53:26.

You can have a little bit of a breather now.

:53:27.:53:29.

Daniel Comet must be fantastic for you to be in the mix because this is

:53:30.:53:32.

world class sprinting we have seen today. What was it like lining up?

:53:33.:53:40.

It is an honour to be asked to do it. I ran in pride on Monday, and

:53:41.:53:44.

they asked if I would do it, and I thought, definitely. To run against

:53:45.:53:48.

first of all these two guys, two of the best in Britain, is good

:53:49.:53:52.

enough, but especially Kim Collins and Richard Thompson, I thought I

:53:53.:53:55.

had to do it. You did not embarrass yourself in

:53:56.:53:57.

that field. Richard, squeeze in.

:53:58.:54:02.

For you it is an exciting time, you started your season very well and we

:54:03.:54:05.

are heading towards the Commonwealth Games and the trials. Where do you

:54:06.:54:10.

feel you are at this moment? I am still getting moving. It takes

:54:11.:54:14.

me a couple of races to get going but I am glad to be your enjoying

:54:15.:54:17.

myself and racing against the best guys. It is great, but hopefully I

:54:18.:54:21.

will keep getting quicker throughout the season, I have some things to

:54:22.:54:24.

work on with my coach, but I'm still not where I want to be, but I am

:54:25.:54:28.

sure I will get there when the time is right. I'm just enjoying myself

:54:29.:54:32.

competing against these guys. It is massive at the moment, sprinting in

:54:33.:54:36.

this country, so it is great to be part of that.

:54:37.:54:38.

You talk about sprinting in this country, there must be a real sense

:54:39.:54:43.

of anticipation about what you can do with the relay.

:54:44.:54:46.

I think there are no worries for us in the relay. I think we can

:54:47.:54:50.

definitely be challenging the Jamaicans and Americans, no doubt

:54:51.:54:54.

about it. Thank you for speaking to us.

:54:55.:54:59.

We're really looking forward to the trials.

:55:00.:55:02.

I know you will be nervous but we're really excited. Well done, guys.

:55:03.:55:06.

We will get back to the TV programme in a minute!

:55:07.:55:13.

A nice attitude from the guys there. I suppose Adam will be a little

:55:14.:55:16.

disappointed with that, and he said he did not have a great start, but

:55:17.:55:21.

he did get to have Kim Collins next to him, which accentuates that.

:55:22.:55:28.

Sometimes your world class athletes, like Adam, the lot of bit

:55:29.:55:33.

more expectation on new now because he has been in the big league, he

:55:34.:55:37.

has run against the big guys and has had these guys commentating on him.

:55:38.:55:41.

He has his own personal expectations, that is why he may be

:55:42.:55:45.

disappointed. But the trials are something to relish, we're rubbing

:55:46.:55:48.

our hands together because it will be sensational.

:55:49.:55:53.

James Dasaolu, his injury problems resulting, another -- persisting,

:55:54.:56:01.

another one is Usain Bolt, Diaz had to pull out of the Paris Diamond

:56:02.:56:05.

League. Any news on him? There is no real

:56:06.:56:09.

news, we know he had to pull out, and when you are at the level of

:56:10.:56:14.

Usain Bolt, talking about the expectation on our guys, this guy

:56:15.:56:17.

has the expectation of the whole world on him.

:56:18.:56:21.

He is one of the athletes that like to deliver when he gets on track. He

:56:22.:56:26.

will look to make sure there is at least nine seconds before goes on

:56:27.:56:30.

track. In terms of this evening and the

:56:31.:56:33.

performance of the evening from a British point of view? It has to be

:56:34.:56:38.

Jessica Judd. A phenomenal performance from her

:56:39.:56:42.

and a personal best, you cannot knock that. Jodie Williams was very

:56:43.:56:46.

close in getting my vote, but Jessica gets it this time.

:56:47.:56:51.

It has been a great evening here at the Bislett games, the Dream Mile

:56:52.:56:57.

was eight, as matter was great, but all of the dreams I think were in

:56:58.:57:01.

the women's 800m, Jess Judd had a difficult winter. She had a

:57:02.:57:05.

fractured bone, Paula Radcliffe helped her through that, she had not

:57:06.:57:09.

run for about three months and today she got a personal best. That is it

:57:10.:57:13.

from young Colin, the next Diamond League athletics is next Saturday

:57:14.:57:17.

from New York. Until then, from all of us, it is goodbye.

:57:18.:57:21.
