Good afternoon. The Murray brothers are looking to extend their history

making careers at the Australian Open by becoming the first brothers

in the open era to make it through to a grand slam final in the singles

and doubles. Jamie plays tomorrow but Andy was in action in his

semifinal earlier today. He's had another impressive season and

arrived in Melbourne as the world number two. In recent years he given

Summit to celebrate and turned Great Britain into a proud tennis nation

once again. -- given us so much to celebrate.

COMMENTATOR: It's a golden triumph for Andy Murray.

One senses that after this actually there could be so much more to come.

And Andy Murray has got his first grand slam. Oh my goodness, he's

gone and done it and done it the hard way!

The waiting is over, Andy Murray is the Wimbledon Championships!

Great Britain have done it in the most spectacular style!

STUDIO: What a career so far, now today Murray has his sights on a

fifth Australian Open final, but up against him was Alice Raonic. We've

talked about him being one of the next superstars tennis for years and

finally he seems to be living up to the hype. -- Milos Raonic. He's all

was had a big serve and now he has a new coach, Carlos Moya command a

more attacking style. But for Raonic this is only his second Grand Slam

semifinal but the man on the other side of the net is very used to

playing on the big occasion. Because, for Andy Murray, this is

his 18th Grand Slam semifinal. He's been through to an amazing eight

grand slam finals and has won two of them, the major titles coming at the

US Open and Wimbledon in 2013, what a record. Now, can he make it grand

slam final number nine? As we join the match Raonic had taken the first

set 6-4, Murray came back by taking the second set 7-5. So, we can join

it now it is 5-5 in the third set, Murray to serve, John Lloyd and

Andrew Castle other commentators. COMMENTATOR: That, to me was some of

the improvement, the forehand, the variety, the instinct to go short

and take the angle away, you don't normally see that from him, he is

known as a power player. That forehand, there. That was just a

classy shot. Once again he gets 0-15. The third time this set

against Murray's serve. And like in the previous game Raonic

gets to 0-30. They are absolutely toe to toe at the moment, 1-1 and

5-5. In the previous game he had a second serve at 15-30, Raonic

command didn't go for second serve at 15-30, Raonic

a second serve in one of the next two points I'd be surprised if he

didn't step in and really clobber it.

There it is. Let's see if he goes for it now. He's got to gamble at

0-30. Oh! It was Murray that did the

gambling. He knew that he was under attack, brilliant match player. That

was fantastic. He knew what was going to happen, the odds were that

Raonic would step in and bump this forehand, and that is a brave second

serve at that stage in the match. That could literally be the turning

point. Another chance. UMPIRE: Murray is challenging the call on

the left far sideline. If it is a second serve does he slide one down

the middle and catch Raonic unawares? Has this caught the line?

No, it is a second serve. Oh no. Really, seriously? You would

go for a shot like that? How many out of ten? Nine out of ten. Second

serve ace at 0-30 and then the drop shot

strokes, and he has a break point. He has not

here. He hasn't broken since the very first game of the match and

that propelled him to the first set will stop he normally goes out wide

on these big points, Murray. That his favourite serve. We will see if

he can do it this time. I tell you, it was high enough to go

over, Murray almost broke the net cord on the forehand, and it went

deep. He served it to Raonic's forehand, he went to the strength,

took the risk, and it paid off. The

That is a magnificent game of tennis. From both players. They

could be the fulcrum of the match, we will see. Murray saves break

point, takes a 6-5 lead in the third set.

Really not many, five, considering how hard he goes for it, and that

Murray seems to go the right way almost all the time on the big shot,

he knew where it was going and anticipated it. It wasn't an easy

shot by any means but he had a chance.

The best backhand he's hit all match. Superb match in the Rod Laver

Arena. Absolutely delighting in this contest as we go into a third set

tie-break. What a hold of serve, you have to take your hat off.

Better winning percentage in tie-breaks for Murray. They've

played three, 2-1 to Raonic. Is matter. -- doesn't matter. That's

lucky. Yeah, he didn't mean that return. He will take it, obviously,

but it is a mis-hit. That is a rough start for Andy Murray, it really is,

the danger. He totally lost control, his racket almost flipped in his

hand. Bid is another one of those. Make

your man play. That is how the second set ended, with a fairly lame

volley from Raonic. If anybody is going to make you play it is going

to be Murray. Murray and Djokovic in this situation are ridiculous,

getting a racket on it. Could have moved in a couple of steps instead

of the lunge on that volley, that was the mistake he made.

That's what he's done well, Raonic. When he's played a disappointing

shot he's rebounder very quickly, he hasn't let it worry him, he's got

right on with business. Obviously in the tie-break you don't have time to

feel sorry for yourself. He's done that throughout the match. He's

mentally kept himself really in this whole time, as has Murray, after a

disappointing start to the match. Absolutely what you've been saying.

That second serve did sit down. Murray's second serve has been

better in this tournament Murray's second serve has been

are occasions when he gets tight, he hits that won three quarters down

the middle of the service box and that's what you've got to do with

it, go for it and attack it, the best chance you have two win the

point against him, get ahead early in the rally.

Andy's Brother Jamie in the doubles final with a ruler Suarez, a new

partnership going well, they are playing against Nesta, the

43-year-old Canadian and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic. Will

Murray make a fifth final here? I don't think I've ever seen anybody

serve as many body serves as Raonic has today against Murray and it's

been this successful. It's a serve not used that much but you've got to

be brilliant to do not used that much but you've got to

depth and pace and height not used that much but you've got to

getting on this serve not used that much but you've got to

remarkable. Talking about Carlos not used that much but you've got to

an illustrious name working with Raonic, but Riccardo Piatti is one

of the unsung heroes of coaching, he always gets the best out of his man

and he's in the camp too, he will have had a lot to do with this and

they would have done their homework on Murray. Of course. 4-2 now.

Oh! O my Lord, What a shot. When that mob went up

for Murray I thought Raonic would have to hit a three quarters overhit

to get back into the point but he goes for a clean winner and makes

it. When you haven't lost for three months you feel pretty confident. He

feels good, he's beaten Federer this year in Brisbane. He's ready to

contest this, and that was risky business.

What a tie-breaker this is. Raonic has already beaten Wawrinka in this

tournament and Viktor Troicki, Robredo.

OK, well, here it is. This is why you train, white you work, get up,

OK, well, here it is. This is why stretch, go through the pain barrier

again and again, go and do your physio, think about it 24 hours a

day come for these moments. Yes, he will be visualising two big first

serves, either to the body or going for aces and Murray will be

visualising getting to this point and reading the serve no matter what

and getting it back into play. He's picturing now where he will hit this

as he's bouncing the ball. How good was that point? Superb.

From the serve onwards both men. This is quality. It doesn't get much

better than this. It really doesn't, 140 mph first service took some guts

as well. He might be tempted by the wide serve here, he's got two set

points. Big down the middle. Raonic has

played a superb third set and third set tie-break and he's one set away

from his first grand slam final. Murray has got to win two straight

to make it to Sunday's final once again. What a contest.

STUDIO: Raonic in charge of the match but just three games later he

called for the trainer to the court and he pointed to his hip as if it

was the problem. After much discussion the trainer decided

privacy was required for the treatment so they decided to leave

the court. There was a delay for about five minutes. Let's pick up

the match once again, we will move on a few games and rejoin at 3-3

with Raonic to serve. Fantastic return. Raonic tempted to

have a look at that with Hawk-Eye. He had the best view and he knew it

was in. It came at him so quickly off if a huge first serve.

Good start for Murray in this game. Now then. Going over the high part

of the net with a ball you are trying to keep low, obvious it

hasn't. That is away and its three break

points for Murray in the second game of the fourth set. Proactive on the

backhand to start with and then the forehand down the line drawing the

error. This expression is one that we've seen so many times over the

years. There was an urgency to the work

Andy Murray put in there. It's a break of serve, will it bring him

the fourth set? Time will tell, but that was a great effort. 4-3, fourth

set. It is one thing breaking serve, it's

quite another to go ahead and capitalise on it. It's 4-3, Murray,

breaking Raonic. The semifinal of the Australian Open, deep in the

fourth set. Nice point from the Canadian, he

needed to break that momentum a little bit.

This is a Murray phase of the match, it really is. See the way he dealt

with the Raonic slice, just lifted it over the net, good control adjust

rolling over the top of all of these, he has got his man where he

wants him at the moment. He took an injury time-out, Raonic, 15 minutes

ago. Is he hurting? We thought it was a stomach muscle, was it a leg?

We really don't know. Unforced errors, yes, lots more from

Raonic but he's hit much more winners, 30 more. That's been the

nature of the match, Murray Rock-like, making as few errors as

possible from the back of the court and Raonic kind of going for it and

taking more risks. That's way too early. Concentration.

What is the panic? Unusual for Murray to make two bad errors like

that in a game, occasionally he will throw in one like anybody but two

poor shots is unusual. I think throw in one like anybody but two

his leg, John Raonic. Yes, it looks like it. Yes. He's had issues

before. This is extraordinary. Mentally,

Murray has been so strong in this set, and almost the whole match, and

then in this game, suddenly after doing the hard work and breaking he

has got sloppy. It's the sloppiest game he's played. Three poor shots,

still not out of it yet. But it is a bit of a bonus for Raonic. He's up a

break point without really playing a particularly good game. It's been

given to him a little bit. He needs a first serve here to get himself

out of trouble. What a first volley that was. He

wants the final against Djokovic again, he so badly wants to win this

one. The first volley was absolutely crucial. The second one was a put

away and he had to hold his ground crucial. The second one was a put

but the first one he managed to get it behind Raonic somehow, good

effort. Is that positive enough for you? That is a Lleyton Hewitt move,

isn't it? This is a dangerous game, he was

40-15 up after breaking serve. Long. Raonic is still moving well,

if he has a hip problem, he could be in the circus will with that one.

Murray saying to his box "Terrible tennis" and it has been by his

standards in this game but he can still hold.

That was anything but terrible. Raonic had hip surgery in 2011 after

taking a fall at Wimbledon against Muller in the second round, he was

out several weeks with that. I wonder if there has been a

recurrence but I really hope not. Murray gets out of the game. That is

an important hold of serve, 5-3. We appear to be heading to a fifth set.

Ricardo, in the Orange hat, a brilliant coach. Played here in

1997, lost to Sampras but beat defending champion Becker in the

first round. An exhausting point, Murray being

sarcastic, cannot believe he missed that last shot. Even though Raonic

came through that point but it is an illustration of how awkward it is to

play against Murray, he gets every bull back.

Regardless of what happens in this game, whether Raonic wins it or not,

Murray wants to make him struggle and suffer and get that momentum, a

little something on his side before he serves for this fourth set.

Why not get the job done right here? Andy Murray is two points away from

taking us to a fifth set. Novak Djokovic awaits in the final again.

He will be quite happy right now, hoping this match goes to five sets

and that they stay out there for another hour or two. Two days rest.

Correct, but still. I wonder how much Raonic has left in

the tank now. Just wide, I am sure Andy Murray

will have a look and why not, that is what the technology is for, he

went for it on the backhand. Mrs maybe one in 20 of these. But he did

miss it. Set point gone. There is no defence to that.

Previously the server had gone out wide, rising and slicing, that one

about 40 K pH quicker. That is nicely done. He likes the drop

I do not see any signs where that medical problem is affecting him

right now in his game, it affected his serve power in the previous

game. Perhaps it does not have the base he wants, a problem with his

leg. If so, it will be a long fifth set. If we go a fifth, I think

Raonic, as a theory, he might have to get the job done now, in this

set. I am not sure what he to get the job done now, in this

offer after this, moving to the backhand side, clicking hips and

things like that is nasty, speaking as a man with metal in that area

myself. A bad error from Murray. This is a beautifully constructive

point, credit where it is due. He is summoning the energy from somewhere.

He had to use his legs well to get up for this overhead, that was a

tough overhead, two quick steps back and a good spring to get up and snap

that one away. He has kept the lid on his devotions so much in this

match, Murray. -- his emotions. Aided by a first serve, still break

point. that was gutsy. It certainly was. I

thought Raonic would get round and hit a forehand, as he was going to,

hit round it and then went for it. Three points in a row from 15-40

down, Murray has a set point for a decider.

He had to fight so hard in the last two service games, in that one he

had to save two break points but he has got the job done. Looking for a

fifth final at the Australian Open. The elephant in the room as we go to

a fifth set in this semifinal at the Australian Open is the injury to

Milos Raonic, how bad is the right hip? It will be tested here.

Bad start. Look at Murray, he is raising over there, he is

broadcasting that he is ready now, get early and push ahead.

Troubling times now for Milos Raonic, a double fault, backhand

into the middle of the net and Murray will sense his opportunity.

That is a good switch from Raonic. A nice angled serve and then the

majority of those forehands, he nice angled serve and then the

hit them to the oft forehand and that is where Murray recovered on

that one, fooling Murray, good point from Raonic.

Murray's wheels getting the job done there, Stern defence. Making his

opponent play the bull. A second double fault in the game

and from that side, Raonic is livid and it is more than livid, it is the

emotions coming out, not anger in the traditional sense. We do not

condemn it as such, if he has to take a fine, so be it but he has

thrown it into this match, everything in this match, I don't

think he has much left and the injury has been a factor.

Frustrating for the Canadian but Murray very much in charge and

following that break he did not let up, racing through the final set,

here he is with match point. And that is it, the forehand winner

closes out a famous victory for Andy Murray, he will have a crack at

Djokovic again in a final of the Australian Open. A superb

contribution from Milos Raonic, who will surely have a tremendous 2016

but once again, Murray advances. Plenty of time to rest and

recuperate ahead of the most mundane matchup in tennis, playing Djokovic.

That is why the trains and why he works because he would so dearly

love to win an Australian Open. It would be at his fifth attempt.

Expect big things from Mill 's Raonic this year, he beat Stan

Wawrinka here and Gael Monfils as well. And who knows what would have

happened if he had not injured his right hip. An excellent tournament.

Murray, just four wins at grand level bind Boris Becker at 159 now.

He is talking to former champion here, Jim Courier. This match had a

lot of twists and turns and at the end of the third set, he played a

near-perfect tie-break, what was going through your mind when you sat

down? It was tough because I played well in that set but in the

tie-break he did not miss a first serve and he has one of the best

serves in tennis. It was frustrating when you do not have much say in the

points. I started to get a better read on his serve as the match went

on and able to make a few more returns and that was the key. He was

treated for an injury early in the fourth set and that is difficult for

the player who is injured but sometimes challenging for you to see

what is going on and how to process that, how did it impact you and the

match? Won he definitely slowed down in the fifth set, for sure, which is

unfortunate for him. It would have been nice to play a more competitive

fifth set but he was struggling with his movement and his serve a bit. In

the fourth set, I thought he was still moving pretty good through to

the end but got a bit lucky with that and you have to try and focus

on your side of the court that and you have to try and focus

you can. You are into your that and you have to try and focus

final at the Australian Open and laying a familiar foe, Novak again

will be there, what will be the key in that battle on Sunday night? Reid

a lot of things are important when you are playing the best players in

the world. I need to execute my game plan well and not have any lapses in

concentration and play as best match as I can. Novak has played extremely

well in last couple of matches and obviously loves playing on

well in last couple of matches and court and we have played a bunch of

times but hopefully this time it will be a different result. Not the

only Murray in a final here, your brother Jamie and doubles final

tomorrow night, the first time two doubles have made a singles and

tomorrow night, the first time two doubles final in The Open error,

tomorrow night, the first time two must make your mum proud, what are

tomorrow night, the first time two Both of my parents will be extremely

tomorrow night, the first time two players coming out of Scotland. I

never expected to be doing this comment neither of our parents would

have expected us to be there, to be in a slam final at the same time is

incredible, hopefully he can get the win tomorrow. This is the third one

in a row for him so I hope he can get the win tomorrow night. Sunday

is obvious the important for you, you and your wife have an important

event in the next couple of weeks, are you ready to be a father? I hope

so. I will find out pretty soon. I have been reading a lot of books and

trying to learn but I think when the baby comes, you need to be able to

adapt. I do not think books or classes will make you a great

parent, I will just try to learn on the way and with the support of my

wife, we will try our best to be good parents. If I can do it,

macro he handled it well, a short answer, no, you never are, it does

not matter what your expectations are but what a wonderful thing to

fitter and stronger, beating Federer in Brisbane and playing well and

then gets an injury. He said it is an abductor injury he has struggled

with. I thought he was fantastic today and in the whole tournament.

We have thought of him as being one-dimensional, the big serve, not

much variety but we know that is now not true. We saw some fantastic

forehand angles and approach shots and his volleying was superb, the

body serve was wonderful. The variety of the forehand. I look at

him now and you talk about people who can win Grand Slams, including

the big four, including Wawrinka but Raonic will be a threat from now on.

Everyone will take note from now on, as far as the final is concerned, a

familiar foe. They met in the final last year, the fourth time they are

meeting and Djokovic has been so dominant. He has won ten of the last

11, Murray can hang on to a couple of things, he has beaten him in

grand slam finals before, he can do it. I think Novak Djokovic has never

been better and everybody understands that. He had the most

phenomenal 2015, losing one grand slam match and he has started in the

same form again, he does not lose, he lost in the group stages at the

O2 in the end of season tournament but has not lost since. He is the

nearest thing we have two unbeatable on the men's side for quite a while.

It is the greatest task but that is what Murray gets ready for, he is

not bad at number two in the world and he is playing superbly. He has

nothing to lose, go for it, he has beaten him before. Murray only

winning one match in the last 11 meetings but you would say he has

had the Davis Cup and he seemed to have reinvented himself in some ways

with a new confidence. Their games cancel each other out because they

are so similar and so great. In the matches recently, Djokovic can hang

in there longer and Murray seems to fall off a bit. I was impressed with

Murray today, the mental side, he got agitated at the beginning and we

thought he would be looking at his box but mentally he got into the

state he needs to be in. He needs to do that against Djokovic from start

to finish, do not give away any weaknesses to Djokovic. I think he

has a good chance in the final actually. It can be tetchy between

the two of them, but we look forward to that on Sunday and we have the

ladies final tomorrow on BBC One. At today, Andy Murray, British number

one, proved what a tough competitor he is when it matters in the big

events, well done Andy, goodbye from us all.
