Good afternoon, what a week it has been for British tennis, one good

:00:36.:00:41.

news story after another. While we have come to expect to see Andy

:00:42.:00:47.

Murray in the latter stages of events, all of the headlines in

:00:48.:00:51.

Melbourne have been about a 24-year-old from Eastbourne.

:00:52.:00:58.

Britain's number one Johanna Konta outclassed Venus Williams. Johanna

:00:59.:01:02.

Konta continued her great form with a straight set victory. She is the

:01:03.:01:07.

first British woman to reach the fourth round ends 1987. Johanna

:01:08.:01:13.

Konta beating Ekaterina Makarova, a British man and a British woman in

:01:14.:01:17.

the quarterfinals of the grand slam for the first time since 1977.

:01:18.:01:23.

Another memorable day for British tennis, 6-4, 6-1. Next up she will

:01:24.:01:30.

face the seventh seed from Germany, Angelique Kerber. This is massive

:01:31.:01:35.

for Johanna and a big step for British tennis. Jo Konta has been

:01:36.:01:42.

hoisted into the spotlight and deservedly so after superb wins

:01:43.:01:45.

after beating Serena Williams and an even more impressive victory over

:01:46.:01:52.

Ekaterina Makarova. She is on a Grand Slam semifinal, the first

:01:53.:01:57.

British woman for 32 years, big-time tennis, facing the world number six,

:01:58.:02:01.

Angelique Kerber. We have highlights of that match coming up and also the

:02:02.:02:06.

first of the men's semifinals between world number one over

:02:07.:02:09.

Djokovic and the great Roger Federer, meeting for the 45th time.

:02:10.:02:14.

Those matches coming up in the next hour. More good news for British

:02:15.:02:18.

tennis, Jamie Murray is through to his third straight grand slam

:02:19.:02:21.

doubles final but with a new partner, Bruno Soares. After

:02:22.:02:26.

defeating the top seed yesterday, Gordon Reid is through to his first

:02:27.:02:31.

Grand Slam final after beating Fernandez of Argentina 9-7 in the

:02:32.:02:36.

third in a match lasting three and a quarter hours. The first lady

:02:37.:02:41.

semifinal did not last long, Serena Williams looks to be in a different

:02:42.:02:46.

class to the others right now, beating Agnieszka Radwanska and

:02:47.:02:50.

taking the first set in 20 minutes. Williams never looked in trouble and

:02:51.:02:54.

has her sights set on the 22nd grand slam title. It has not been a

:02:55.:02:58.

typical Aussie summer down under, plenty of rain this week and that

:02:59.:03:03.

was the case again today, closed for the Serena Williams semifinal but

:03:04.:03:08.

open for Konta against Kerber. She looked on food and stepping on the

:03:09.:03:15.

court but the nerves seemed to affect, Kerber taking advantage of

:03:16.:03:16.

the early nervousness. COMMENTATOR: A penetrating return

:03:17.:03:37.

from Johanna Konta, she will not back off, she has demonstrated that

:03:38.:03:41.

already in the Australian Open but this is a nervous start and

:03:42.:03:50.

experience has told so far. Semifinal feels different from a

:03:51.:03:54.

quarterfinal and different from the fourth round, the pressure builds.

:03:55.:03:58.

It can weigh heavily on the shoulders. Just desperate to get

:03:59.:04:00.

that first game under her belt here. Probably the weaker side of the

:04:01.:04:29.

left-handed German, her forehand. She can certainly take a short bull

:04:30.:04:45.

on common errors will come on the forehand side more than the steady

:04:46.:04:51.

double handed backhand. Konta will have done her homework. The back and

:04:52.:04:56.

just sat up, not much on that shot at all, another nervous looking shot

:04:57.:04:59.

from Konta. Coming into this match, she was

:05:00.:05:48.

happy to say that she was anxious to leave everything out on the court,

:05:49.:05:54.

her best effort, a it is way to approach it, positive.

:05:55.:06:06.

Beautiful backhands there, she really leans into that shot. Stays

:06:07.:06:11.

nice and low. Insulated to a degree from the hype

:06:12.:06:52.

over here in Australia. Certainly wearing the pressure at the moment,

:06:53.:06:53.

this is an important game. That is the way, she is off and

:06:54.:07:48.

running. And it was the backhand that set up the attack again, it

:07:49.:07:54.

looks good. It is a beautiful shot, she can do some real damage a

:07:55.:07:59.

penetrating with that shot, very aggressive and wanting to get off

:08:00.:08:04.

the mark here and get her first game in a Grand Slam semifinal, did well

:08:05.:08:10.

to hold her nerve. Now, to hold serve. She has not managed that so

:08:11.:08:13.

far, 1-3. Kerber is going to have to start

:08:14.:08:43.

getting a bit more depth on some of these forehands because Konta again

:08:44.:08:49.

edging into the court, aggressive, you can see how well she extends on

:08:50.:08:54.

this shot. A lot of body weight going into that backhand. You do not

:08:55.:09:01.

see too many of those. That was a wrong decision from

:09:02.:09:39.

Kerber coming on that forehand. A bit of a nervous shot from Kerber I

:09:40.:09:44.

thought, rushing, way back to come back from the baseline there, you

:09:45.:09:48.

open up the court, no chance of covering the net and getting close

:09:49.:09:52.

enough, a good forehand passing shot.

:09:53.:10:22.

A third Grand Slam semifinal for Angelique Kerber. The seventh seed

:10:23.:10:31.

here, 28 years of age and has been there before, did not win either of

:10:32.:10:36.

the two previous semifinals but she has felt this pressure. That may

:10:37.:10:40.

serve to extend this game. Yes, just by one point, Johanna

:10:41.:10:53.

Konta has commenced this semifinal in the Women's Singles at the

:10:54.:10:57.

Australian Open, two games in a row, something to build from.

:10:58.:11:36.

What a tremendous effort has been from Jo Konta, not only the

:11:37.:11:44.

semifinal of the Australian Open but the fourth round of the US Open last

:11:45.:11:50.

year as well. This time last two, 144 in the world and now into the

:11:51.:11:54.

top 30, now a star player and into the big money. Yes, a beautiful

:11:55.:12:00.

service motion, look at the body weight going through.

:12:01.:12:11.

Things looking a whole lot better for Britain's Johanna Konta than

:12:12.:12:19.

they were eight or nine minutes ago. She was 3-0 down, losing her first

:12:20.:12:25.

two service games but look back, at least one of those breaks and then a

:12:26.:12:28.

comfortable hold, it is now 3-2, Kerber.

:12:29.:12:44.

A big game for Kerber, she has to re-establish herself, she has been

:12:45.:12:54.

in semifinals before but never opportunities like that, that brings

:12:55.:13:00.

a lot of pressure. You like to play someone ranked this low in a Grand

:13:01.:13:03.

Slam semifinal but the expectations you put on yourself can sometimes

:13:04.:13:08.

get you fit the tight, this is a big game for Kerber.

:13:09.:13:23.

This is the confrontation of this match so far on court. The Kerber

:13:24.:13:31.

forehand, that is the wing that breaks down under pressure. She has

:13:32.:13:36.

a Radwanska type backhand that rarely misses, it feels comfortable.

:13:37.:13:41.

Konta happy to go to it all day long.

:13:42.:13:50.

There is another mistake, that is the side that gets tight. If there

:13:51.:13:57.

is one thing Konta does, it is her homework, her coach and her

:13:58.:14:00.

psychologist, they have done a fantastic job in preparing her. For

:14:01.:14:04.

the run that she is on now. The other area that Konta can go at

:14:05.:14:20.

is the Kerber second serve which also gets wobbly at times, tends to

:14:21.:14:26.

sit little bit. If she misses a few first serves, it is an area she can

:14:27.:14:28.

attack a bit. It is the backhand that breaks this

:14:29.:14:42.

time, this is nervous. It has caught the top of the net,

:14:43.:15:17.

over the high part, Konta, three games in a row, 3-3. STUDIO: The

:15:18.:15:26.

British number one back in the semifinal, nothing between them in

:15:27.:15:30.

the next few games, we rejoin them at 5-5, Konta serving. COMMENTATOR:

:15:31.:15:40.

The 5-5 game, her individual service preparation.

:15:41.:16:07.

Oh, what a point that was as well. Beautiful play from both women. The

:16:08.:16:17.

best rally of the match and that was the big opportunity, set herself up

:16:18.:16:22.

so well, just snatched at the drive forehand volley.

:16:23.:16:54.

She has come through every test at the Australian Open against

:16:55.:17:00.

Ekaterina Makarova and Venus Williams in round one, you see that

:17:01.:17:04.

in the first round but she came through that. The quarterfinal, a

:17:05.:17:11.

match she was expecting to win and now this, a new test.

:17:12.:17:16.

Wow. She has that look about her now, Johanna Konta, where she feels

:17:17.:17:29.

she belongs in this company, this is not a fluke. Look at how she set

:17:30.:17:34.

herself up and how pleased she is on court, a tremendous effort from

:17:35.:17:39.

where she has come from in the last 18 months.

:17:40.:18:06.

Could not have been a long way out, she looks up at the camera but

:18:07.:18:17.

declines to use the computerised line checking system. Not checking

:18:18.:18:21.

Hawk-Eye here. Two break points. When that passing shot hit the top

:18:22.:19:01.

of the net, it was not another one skipping over the racket, was it?

:19:02.:19:10.

That one. This time she was ready, stopped the bull 's progress, this

:19:11.:19:20.

was no easy shot. And back on the attack again, still a break point to

:19:21.:19:21.

save. The Kerber stood up to the pressure

:19:22.:19:47.

there are her forehand, it is a break of serve and she will serve

:19:48.:19:54.

for the first set at 6-5. STUDIO: A crucial stage of the match, they did

:19:55.:19:59.

not need a disruption to play but that is what happened, a few drops

:20:00.:20:02.

of rain stopped play and they needed to drive the court and the lines

:20:03.:20:07.

that can get very slippery. There was a delay of ten minutes and that

:20:08.:20:11.

would certainly test the nerves. We will pick it up again when play

:20:12.:20:15.

resumes with Kerber serving for the set. COMMENTATOR: Crucial moments in

:20:16.:20:20.

this second semifinal. Have to get one of the first couple

:20:21.:20:52.

of points in the big game like this. That is a pity. The break for the

:20:53.:21:23.

tension, to start a game like this with two of those 20 unforced

:21:24.:21:27.

errors, it is a shame but she is not out of the game yet. The wheels have

:21:28.:21:40.

come off in this game. Comfortable for Kerber, the luxury of three set

:21:41.:21:42.

points. The drop shot paid off, and

:21:43.:22:25.

injection of touch and just under 50 minutes played and the first set to

:22:26.:22:30.

Angelique Kerber, 7-5 against Jo Konta. Set number two.

:22:31.:22:39.

Has not settled at all after the break for rain. Even just a few

:22:40.:22:51.

minutes. She had lost her serve to go 5-6 down but that was a bull game

:22:52.:22:57.

to end the first set, she needs to settle quickly here in the second or

:22:58.:22:59.

it could run away. At this level, you cannot afford to

:23:00.:24:08.

throw these errors in bunches. The best players, play one bad point and

:24:09.:24:13.

get back into it and play more solid but at the moment, she is letting

:24:14.:24:15.

things get away from her. A piercing backhand, first the

:24:16.:24:49.

forehand and then down the line to the Kerber, considered a strength

:24:50.:24:52.

but Konta going with real heat down the line, that will please mum and

:24:53.:24:58.

dad on the south coast of England. Down in Eastbourne, they have been

:24:59.:25:02.

watching this on TV, choosing not to fly out and change anything, they

:25:03.:25:04.

must be so proud. It was an excellent change of

:25:05.:25:40.

direction fourth and side from Kerber, she is just turning the

:25:41.:25:45.

screw in this match. She has the break of serve as well as the first

:25:46.:25:55.

set. STUDIO: Kerber in control, Konta trying to get past defences

:25:56.:26:00.

but continued to make errors, as we rejoin it, Kerber is 5-2 up and

:26:01.:26:09.

serving for a place in the final. COMMENTATOR: What a moment in the

:26:10.:26:12.

career of the seventh seed, Angelique Kerber, veteran of the

:26:13.:26:18.

tour, 28 years of age, serving for a place in the final.

:26:19.:27:02.

Lovely injection of pace therefrom Kerber.

:27:03.:27:38.

That is telling, Konta has perhaps been over pressing on the backhand.

:27:39.:27:51.

Take that. That was a nervous little drop shot. Please be good. She did

:27:52.:28:03.

not want to hit the best shot, a bit tight, a clean winner. She had about

:28:04.:28:11.

half an hour to get to that one. Still had to hit the shot which she

:28:12.:28:13.

did. And now, a match point. Don't start

:28:14.:28:31.

thinking now. A chance to make a Grand Slam final and play Serena

:28:32.:28:32.

Williams, match point. Well, it is a shame it had to end

:28:33.:28:51.

that way. It is Angelique Kerber who advances to her first Grand Slam

:28:52.:28:56.

final at the Australian Open. She will play Serena Williams. But my

:28:57.:29:02.

goodness, we have seen so much to be proud from Johanna Konta, a

:29:03.:29:05.

tremendous run comes to an end but we salute Kerber who will take on

:29:06.:29:10.

Serena Williams, who she has beaten before but that is a daunting task

:29:11.:29:16.

indeed. This is really her victory for Kerber rather than a loss for

:29:17.:29:23.

Konta. Sydney born Johanna Konta, British from Hungarian parents,

:29:24.:29:30.

calls herself try national but a brilliant run. Many congratulations,

:29:31.:29:37.

28 years of age and your first Grand Slam final. A special moment for

:29:38.:29:46.

you? Yes. Thank you. It is a special moment, reaching the final for the

:29:47.:29:50.

first time. I will try to give everything today on court and Jo had

:29:51.:29:57.

a great two weeks and I am sure she will have a great future. She was a

:29:58.:30:04.

tough opponent. She will win many tournaments in the future, that is

:30:05.:30:07.

for sure. I just want to say thank you again, it is an unbelievable

:30:08.:30:14.

feeling to play on the Centre Court, thank you guys, I hope you will be

:30:15.:30:24.

supporting on Saturday. And we hope you will be supporting us on

:30:25.:30:29.

Saturday as well when we are on BBC One with Angelique Kerber taking on

:30:30.:30:31.

the great Serena Williams, the world number one. Kerber has a victory

:30:32.:30:38.

over her in the head to head. Highlight of the ladies final but

:30:39.:30:41.

also the Men's Doubles final with Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares.

:30:42.:30:49.

Disappointment for Joanna Konta, but let's hear what she have to say to

:30:50.:30:54.

Russell Fuller, he asked her if she became disappointed from coming so

:30:55.:31:00.

close to a grand slam final. I don't feel I missed an opportunity, I feel

:31:01.:31:03.

I've played a good match against one of the best players in the world,

:31:04.:31:08.

who basically won the match to go into the final. So the reason she's

:31:09.:31:11.

there is because she won the match and that's how I'm going to take it.

:31:12.:31:16.

You know, I'm looking forward to just continuing to work and

:31:17.:31:21.

continuing to create opportunities for myself to be in similar

:31:22.:31:25.

situations in the future. We all hope that and John Lloyd is with me,

:31:26.:31:29.

very impressive. Disappointing today, a few too many errors but

:31:30.:31:32.

over the fortnight she should be very happy with it overall.

:31:33.:31:36.

Absolutely, how far as she come in such a short distance of time. It's

:31:37.:31:41.

remarkable. Today she started off slow but understandably the Melissa

:31:42.:31:45.

Mead finals, going down 3-0 and when she got that back she looked like

:31:46.:31:51.

she belonged out there. -- the semifinals. She needs a bit more

:31:52.:31:55.

variety in places but I think she is a threat now. A lot of coaches now

:31:56.:31:58.

from the top women will be checking her out and coming up with different

:31:59.:32:02.

strategies to play her. I think she can move up the rankings a lot more,

:32:03.:32:06.

I see no reason why not. There is a big gap, if you take Serena Williams

:32:07.:32:11.

out of it, because she is a class among herself, for the rest there is

:32:12.:32:14.

an opening for someone like Joanna Konta and the way she has played in

:32:15.:32:18.

this tournament, why not, she can go a long way. Mentally she has

:32:19.:32:22.

improved on the big points but she also has weapons which is important.

:32:23.:32:25.

If you are going to win matches you need to put pressure on players. I

:32:26.:32:29.

love the way she hugs the baseline, takes the ball early, takes the ball

:32:30.:32:33.

on the rise, looking to go forward always, her serve is a big weapon,

:32:34.:32:38.

bit more variety on the return, hits a few too many down the middle on

:32:39.:32:42.

the second serve. She should have attacked the second serve more

:32:43.:32:46.

today? She should, she had the appointment Delhi opportunity to get

:32:47.:32:50.

the opponent off balance. She hits it too hard but she will learn that

:32:51.:32:54.

through experience and when she made errors she grouped them together,

:32:55.:32:57.

whereas the top players play one bad shot and get back down to it and

:32:58.:33:01.

play solidly for a couple of points. That is another thing that will come

:33:02.:33:05.

from experience but she has a great future. Nominee points to defend,

:33:06.:33:08.

she has only broken into the top 30, up to 28, -- already broken into.

:33:09.:33:15.

She will be in the Premier tournaments, getting big points add

:33:16.:33:17.

more experience and it's an exciting time. Very exciting and this will

:33:18.:33:22.

give her the chance to be seated at the Grand Slam is, that will protect

:33:23.:33:25.

her a bit more. I look at her and think there is no reason why not.

:33:26.:33:30.

How far? She can be top ten, no doubt, but the next level after

:33:31.:33:36.

that, again, Serena is the problem because at the moment she is a class

:33:37.:33:40.

of her own, how long she can go on for, who knows? But take the rest of

:33:41.:33:43.

the field and Konta has a good chance to do well against any of

:33:44.:33:46.

them if she keeps on improving and she will keep getting better. I

:33:47.:33:50.

worry for Kerber's second serve against Serena on Saturday, it will

:33:51.:33:54.

get a bit of a thumping but congratulations to Angelique Kerber

:33:55.:33:57.

who played a fantastic match today, through to her first grand slam

:33:58.:34:04.

final. The ladies final is on Saturday but the first of the men's

:34:05.:34:06.

semifinals took place earlier today and what a semifinal, two of the

:34:07.:34:08.

all-time greats, world number one Novak Djokovic begins the Roger

:34:09.:34:14.

Federer. They have met 44 times, 22-22 in their head-to-head and as

:34:15.:34:17.

you can see Djokovic has really dominated in their recent Grand Slam

:34:18.:34:21.

meetings. Could he go ahead for the first time against his great rival?

:34:22.:34:25.

There wasn't a spare seat in the Rod Laver Arena to see these two great

:34:26.:34:29.

champions doing battle once again. What an era we are enjoying at the

:34:30.:34:33.

moment. Djokovic knows he must be at his best against Roger and he

:34:34.:34:37.

started that way, taking the first set 6-1. We join it at the second,

:34:38.:34:43.

1-1, Federer to serve and John is with Andrew again.

:34:44.:35:01.

COMMENTATOR: He feels with this much break between the semifinal and a

:35:02.:35:07.

final you can really throw everything at the semifinal and not

:35:08.:35:11.

hold anything back. He said, not that you voluntarily do that, but if

:35:12.:35:14.

you have the final the next day or that they after you might pull back

:35:15.:35:24.

mentally at had Belly -- a tad. Once again you can see Federer is being

:35:25.:35:28.

made to play such awkward shots by Djokovic, coming at him so deep, not

:35:29.:35:33.

giving him enough time to react, and he's trying to power through with

:35:34.:35:37.

the forehand, Federer, but at the moment the timing is not there.

:35:38.:35:47.

Again, he's hoping for success, Federer, on that approach shot. It's

:35:48.:35:54.

not a real, genuine... He comes in and that's not going to get the job

:35:55.:35:57.

done, he can't get to the net quick enough from there, he has way too

:35:58.:36:01.

much time to hit the pass. Two shots too early in a rally. Exactly, he's

:36:02.:36:07.

rushing. It's unusual to say Roger Federer is panicking, not a word you

:36:08.:36:10.

associate with Federer, but at the moment it looks a little bit like he

:36:11.:36:12.

is. This is an absolute masterclass from

:36:13.:36:33.

Djokovic. Roger Federer is having a quick challenge, he's about to lose

:36:34.:36:37.

his serve again. The forehand looked like it landed long to the naked

:36:38.:36:44.

eye. And two Hawk-Eye as well. Djokovic is in complete control of

:36:45.:36:49.

this semifinal. Federer on the back foot, Djokovic

:36:50.:36:52.

held in the next game so here is Federer serving again at 1-3.

:36:53.:37:47.

Oh! How good is that? That was extraordinary, and it could have

:37:48.:37:56.

passed you by quite easily there. That's one of the greatest bits of

:37:57.:38:00.

defence I've ever seen. And it wasn't at this point in the rally,

:38:01.:38:04.

it was earlier. Federer hit a forehand as hard as he could hit it,

:38:05.:38:09.

deep into the corner, it may have been just inside. Who is this bloke?

:38:10.:38:13.

The lob was amazing. Oh dear. I'll tell you something,

:38:14.:38:41.

you might as well not worry too much about Federer. And just revel in

:38:42.:38:46.

Djokovic, because this is extraordinary. And, yes, Federer has

:38:47.:38:54.

made a lot of errors, John. He's in the zone, isn't he? At the moment

:38:55.:38:58.

there is nothing he can't hit, everything he hits is going where he

:38:59.:39:03.

wants it. And getting a nice net cord as well. This might be one of

:39:04.:39:08.

those high moments in an individual's performance. There is a

:39:09.:39:15.

Ivan Ljubicic, working with Roger Federer replacing Stefan Edberg

:39:16.:39:18.

after a couple of years, the Swedish player with Roger Federer. And his

:39:19.:39:23.

wife Mirka looking on as well. This is amazing. Truly amazing. The

:39:24.:39:42.

net cord return on the previous point and that return on the

:39:43.:39:49.

baseline. It is amazing. It is 6-1, 4-1.

:39:50.:39:51.

STUDIO: And proving unstoppable because Djokovic never let up, he

:39:52.:39:56.

took the set 6-2, the crowd in shock, who would have thought

:39:57.:39:59.

Federer would win three games in two sets but he found some form in the

:40:00.:40:04.

third set, we rejoin with Federer leading 3-2 and Djokovic to serve.

:40:05.:40:07.

COMMENTATOR: 2-3. That's the shop that has been

:40:08.:40:31.

causing him the most problems, his forehand. Always very reliable --

:40:32.:40:35.

shot. He got himself back into the rally so well and missed the easy

:40:36.:40:37.

one. That was the best backhand Federer

:40:38.:41:52.

has hit today. It got Djokovic out-of-court. That's the one that

:41:53.:41:59.

set him up. A slight opening here for Federer.

:42:00.:42:34.

0- 30 opportunity as rare as hen's teeth for Roger Federer today.

:42:35.:43:09.

The first break point saved and accurate serve but that one was on

:43:10.:43:52.

Federer's racket. Good signs for him, though. He needs something for

:43:53.:43:55.

him to get his teeth into. That is of poor passing shot from

:43:56.:44:37.

Djokovic there. -- a poor passing shot. Ivan Ljubicic, former world

:44:38.:44:41.

number three, working with Roger Federer.

:44:42.:44:48.

He just missed. At least he was inside the court that time and he

:44:49.:45:28.

earned the opportunity to pull the trigger. Two of those chances on the

:45:29.:45:32.

forehand in this game and he missed them both. Those are the sort of

:45:33.:45:36.

shots that normally you just expect Federer, because he's that good, to

:45:37.:45:42.

make that shot. He didn't have to make it that good. Fine defence

:45:43.:45:50.

before that from Djokovic, standing firm, three break points saved in

:45:51.:45:51.

this game. That's just too good. There was no

:45:52.:46:21.

chance Djokovic was going to miss a ground stroke there. Federer

:46:22.:46:26.

defended well in that rally. He was on the back foot. That's the

:46:27.:46:29.

familiar shot, the squash forehand, just missed that one but normally so

:46:30.:46:34.

good with that. But he never really got a chance to get ahead in that

:46:35.:46:35.

rally. That's cheeky. Beautifully played.

:46:36.:47:02.

This is a very fine phase of play for Federer. Djokovic doing nothing

:47:03.:47:11.

different, maintaining an amazing standard. This is the best part of

:47:12.:47:18.

the match standard-wise. You wouldn't necessarily expect

:47:19.:47:53.

Djokovic to out -base Federer over the course of the match -- out- ace.

:47:54.:48:05.

What a this is. -- a game this is. The previous time on this side he

:48:06.:49:25.

had run around and hit a forehand too hot to handle for Djokovic. This

:49:26.:49:30.

time standing his ground and getting over the top of that. It's a thing

:49:31.:49:36.

of beauty. What a game, ten minutes worth, deuce.

:49:37.:49:46.

CHEERING Djokovic would like this volley back

:49:47.:50:07.

here, Federer is onto it, and then the control, magnificent dig. The

:50:08.:50:19.

fourth break point. UMPIRE: Mr Djokovic is challenging

:50:20.:50:29.

the call on the left service line, the ball was called out. Pascal

:50:30.:50:34.

Maria in the chair, what big-time this is, challenging the serve,

:50:35.:50:43.

disrupting your own rhythm. Oh yes, there is reward. First serve.

:50:44.:50:52.

CHEERING First break of serve for Roger

:50:53.:51:26.

Federer in this semifinal. Some of the crowd rise. He's made it a

:51:27.:51:31.

match. This is going to hurt the years of Djokovic -- the ears.

:51:32.:51:39.

STUDIO: It certainly hurt his momentum as well, the crowd got

:51:40.:51:42.

behind Federer and he went on to take the set 6-3, match on also we

:51:43.:51:47.

go into the fourth set Djokovic leading 4-3, Federer to serve.

:51:48.:52:07.

COMMENTATOR: The 15 point in the previous game Djokovic held with a

:52:08.:52:14.

winning volley and then a nice clean ending to the game, now Djokovic at

:52:15.:52:20.

0- 15 in this game, danger for Federer here.

:52:21.:52:49.

Federer could have done more, couldn't he? Djokovic was onto that

:52:50.:52:58.

so close, he read that volley, he had too much time. That was a big

:52:59.:53:04.

point for Federer to lose. You could see him react, he gets up to it, the

:53:05.:53:08.

racket went back early, could have gone either way, 20 of time, and

:53:09.:53:14.

danger time now for Federer. -- plenty of time.

:53:15.:53:27.

That's surprising, really surprising. It was a good second

:53:28.:53:36.

serve, but not that good for Djokovic to make an error. It was a

:53:37.:53:48.

big opportunity vertigo 0- 40. -- there to go 0- 40.

:53:49.:53:57.

Oh! Ho-ho! That was unbelievable. Djokovic way too cautious. Great

:53:58.:54:18.

lob, this. Both players, what a recovery. That was the shot, didn't

:54:19.:54:23.

do enough with it, and there, the same thing, didn't snap the volley

:54:24.:54:30.

away, too Conservative, but what a backhand.

:54:31.:54:46.

That is good fortune right over the top of Federer's racket, off the top

:54:47.:54:53.

of the net, it was a piercing passing shot. He was unlucky,

:54:54.:54:59.

though. He was on that. That's a bit of a bluff, I'm afraid.

:55:00.:55:29.

STUDIO: Djokovic very much in charge once again and a few points later,

:55:30.:55:34.

here he is at match point. COMMENTATOR: Djokovic will go

:55:35.:55:39.

through to have a crack at his sixth Australian Open title on Sunday.

:55:40.:55:45.

Federer defeated in four sets, it's been too long since Federer was able

:55:46.:55:49.

to best the world number one at Grand Slam level. But it's hats off

:55:50.:55:56.

to Djokovic, superb. The first two sets unbelievable. And in the fourth

:55:57.:56:03.

set gutsy and determined. STUDIO: Truly proving what a great champion

:56:04.:56:07.

he is, he's coached by a great champion and applauded by another,

:56:08.:56:10.

Rod Laver, everyone appreciating the dominance of the world number one.

:56:11.:56:14.

And the feeling for this man Roger Federer, it wasn't his day, he

:56:15.:56:20.

fought hard in the first set but he found no answers for Djokovic was so

:56:21.:56:23.

good once again on the Rod Laver Arena, a court he has grown to love.

:56:24.:56:27.

John Lloyd was watching it with me. Sad for Roger Federer but the best

:56:28.:56:33.

man won on the day. Federer did not start well but lots

:56:34.:56:36.

of that comes down to Djokovic, he was brilliant and forced Federer to

:56:37.:56:39.

keep going for so much because he's right in his face, deep, and Federer

:56:40.:56:43.

starts going for too much and serve and volley too much and becomes too

:56:44.:56:47.

predictable and in the end Djokovic was a different class. Djokovic

:56:48.:56:50.

knows if he can get the first and second against Roger it's unlikely

:56:51.:56:54.

Roger is going to come back and win it in five, it's too much of an

:56:55.:56:57.

ASCII for him so he was in the driving seat once awake. Great

:56:58.:57:02.

effort to come back and win the third from Roger because it looked

:57:03.:57:06.

like it might be a whitewash at one stage. He has the answers again and

:57:07.:57:10.

Federer has to force the issue all the time and if his forehand is not

:57:11.:57:15.

at 100% Federer has no chance and Djokovic returns to well, his

:57:16.:57:20.

defence is amazing. Federer can't find a way through him. It seems

:57:21.:57:25.

inevitable in a best-of-5 set match that Djokovic will come out on top

:57:26.:57:29.

now. We talked about Serena being dominant, you feel not quite as

:57:30.:57:34.

much, but Djokovic is taking a lead over the others in the men's game as

:57:35.:57:38.

well. He seems so hard to beat in the Grand Slam is. Over five sets he

:57:39.:57:43.

is a frightening prospect, what can you do against him? He does

:57:44.:57:46.

everything better than everyone else, the pressure he puts on you,

:57:47.:57:51.

his defensive skills, his service has improved, he comes in, Boris

:57:52.:57:54.

Becker helped him with his volley and he's confident with that. How do

:57:55.:57:58.

you put him down over five sets, I don't know the answer and nobody

:57:59.:58:03.

else does. He moves so well, his movement on the court is so good. He

:58:04.:58:07.

is through to the final of the Australian Open once again. But the

:58:08.:58:11.

second men's semifinal will take place tomorrow, Andy Murray,

:58:12.:58:14.

Britain's number one, up against Milos Raonic, that's tomorrow.

:58:15.:58:25.

COMMENTATOR: That will do it, Andy Murray for the sick time through to

:58:26.:58:29.

the semifinals of the Australian Open.

:58:30.:58:35.

STUDIO: Willock forward to that tomorrow, Andy Murray against Milos

:58:36.:58:41.

Raonic, at 2pm on BBC Two. Today, though, the world number one in the

:58:42.:58:46.

men's, Novak Djokovic, marches on at the Australian Open and Johanna

:58:47.:58:49.

Konta's dream run ran out, I'm afraid. Bye bye

:58:50.:58:54.

COMMENTATOR: Johanna Konta, hurt Mendis run comes to an end but we

:58:55.:58:58.

salute Kerber. Djokovic will go through to have a

:58:59.:59:01.

crack at his sixth Australian Open title.
