First out of the block
tonight is athletics. | 0:10:06 | 0:10:08
Five years after the 2012 Olympics
and London had the fever | 0:10:08 | 0:10:10
again. | 0:10:10 | 0:10:12
Two World Championships
which both broke records | 0:10:12 | 0:10:13
for ticket sales. | 0:10:13 | 0:10:15
First up was the
World Para-Athletics | 0:10:15 | 0:10:16
Championships. | 0:10:16 | 0:10:20
Over the next nine days, so many
Paralympic heroes are going for gold | 0:10:25 | 0:10:30
right here.
# I won't let you down | 0:10:30 | 0:10:35
# So please don't give me up... | 0:10:35 | 0:10:39
Breaks her own world record. Claims
the world record. Georgina | 0:10:45 | 0:10:53
Hermitage, top of the world. Oh,
look at that! She's done it... Oh, | 0:10:53 | 0:10:59
yes! | 0:10:59 | 0:11:06 | |
It is a second gold for Kinghorn.
The third gold medal... | 0:11:07 | 0:11:21
So many superb performances
there at those | 0:11:27 | 0:11:29
World Para-Athletics Championships
where Great Britain won | 0:11:29 | 0:11:30
39 medals including 18 golds. | 0:11:30 | 0:11:34
And one of those big gees went | 0:11:34 | 0:11:35
to our first contender. | 0:11:35 | 0:11:37
He's the fastest single amputee in | 0:11:37 | 0:11:43
history, and he looks good
on the dancefloor too. | 0:11:43 | 0:11:45
It's | 0:11:45 | 0:11:46 | |
sprint king Jonnie Peacock. | 0:11:46 | 0:11:52
When I was five I lost my leg to
meningitis. Kids like to get on with | 0:11:52 | 0:11:59
it, I guess that was probably my
mentality. | 0:11:59 | 0:12:03
There's a moment just when you get
into the blocks where everything | 0:12:03 | 0:12:08
just goes silent.
Everything that you've worked for | 0:12:08 | 0:12:13
pretty much your whole life is going
to unfold in ten seconds. One final | 0:12:13 | 0:12:19
deep breath and then, bang!
I don't noted what -- know what it | 0:12:19 | 0:12:31
is, but it is that moment you
accelerate! 2012 was incredible for | 0:12:31 | 0:12:36
me. I never thought I would make it
there. | 0:12:36 | 0:12:40
I think that really shocked
Paralympics into the limelight. | 0:12:40 | 0:12:47
Going to Rio was even tougher than
London. | 0:12:47 | 0:12:52
THE COMMENTATOR: Peacock's gold
again! | 0:12:52 | 0:12:54
And to step back on that track, 2012
and re-do it, it was incredible. He | 0:12:54 | 0:13:01
is an inspiration. The poster boy.
He's raised the produce file of the | 0:13:01 | 0:13:05
sport and shows the world what can
be done. He works incredibly hard. | 0:13:05 | 0:13:09
He has a brilliant sense of humour.
He doesn't take himself seriously. | 0:13:09 | 0:13:14
That's what makes him such a
superstar. I just like to have fun. | 0:13:14 | 0:13:18
I feel like everyone goes through
battles in their life and it makes | 0:13:18 | 0:13:22
you who you are today. I wouldn't
change any of it. | 0:13:22 | 0:13:31
Please give a huge welcome to Jonnie
Peacock. | 0:13:34 | 0:13:39
APPLAUSE | 0:13:40 | 0:13:46
Your achievements speak for
themselves. Multiple world champion. | 0:13:54 | 0:13:58
Still only 24. What do you put it
down to? I think just luck. I think | 0:13:58 | 0:14:06
we've been blessed with British
Athletics. You can see behind you | 0:14:06 | 0:14:09
the amount of successful athletes we
produce. Coaches, you know. I have | 0:14:09 | 0:14:13
been really lucky to have been
handed to amazing coaches who have | 0:14:13 | 0:14:17
made sure I am in the peak at the
right time. Hard work grit and | 0:14:17 | 0:14:23
determination as well. 12 million
people enjoyed watching you on | 0:14:23 | 0:14:27
Strictly Come Dancing. You were
phenomenal. We loved it! And you... | 0:14:27 | 0:14:32
APPLAUSE
You seemed to love it, too. What do | 0:14:32 | 0:14:35
you think you got from that? Is
there anything you take from it as | 0:14:35 | 0:14:40
an athlete? Was it hard? The
training hours were tough. It was | 0:14:40 | 0:14:46
more mentally exhausting than
physical. Everyone was having ice | 0:14:46 | 0:14:49
baths. My body was fine. I put on
weight, I put on quite a bit of | 0:14:49 | 0:14:54
weight, so that was tricky. That
shows another way that Paralympic | 0:14:54 | 0:14:59
sport has come into the limelight.
2012 and 2017, the biggest and best | 0:14:59 | 0:15:04
World Championships and been in
London, in the UK, and you can see | 0:15:04 | 0:15:08
athletes behind who have had
success. When we saw your film | 0:15:08 | 0:15:11
there, we saw the little boy who was
coming to terms with being an | 0:15:11 | 0:15:16
amputee in the classroom. Now you
show lots of little boys and girls | 0:15:16 | 0:15:20
what is possible. What does that
mean to you? | 0:15:20 | 0:15:24
They are able to have people to look
up to and know that things get | 0:15:29 | 0:15:32
better. Going through tough times is
standard. Able, disabled, everyone | 0:15:32 | 0:15:38
can take something away from it. We
all just have fun and alt-right and | 0:15:38 | 0:15:42
when fast, throw far, you know. Best
of luck tonight. Ladies and | 0:15:42 | 0:15:49
gentlemen, Jonnie Peacock! APPLAUSE | 0:15:49 | 0:15:54
Down under, men at work. Well,
supermen. Roger overcame Rafa in a | 0:16:05 | 0:16:10
breathtaking battle of the
incredible is. Another title to | 0:16:10 | 0:16:14
Serena, but now with a baby on
board, eight weeks pregnant when she | 0:16:14 | 0:16:18
beat her soon aunt, Venus. Michael
van Gerwen, a popular PDC champion. | 0:16:18 | 0:16:24
BDO prices to Glen Durrant and Lisa
Ashton. At the Ally Pally rocket | 0:16:24 | 0:16:29
Ronnie is still the master. Also
winning indoors, two European golds | 0:16:29 | 0:16:34
for Laura Muir, one for Andrew
Buzza, Richard Kilty and Asha | 0:16:34 | 0:16:40
Philip. A World Cup slalom silver,
gold at Paris to Millie Knight and | 0:16:40 | 0:16:48
Brett Wild, her guide. After time
away, a world skeleton buns of steel | 0:16:48 | 0:16:54
for Lizzy Yarnold. Sizing John
finished strong in the Gold cup with | 0:16:54 | 0:16:56
full power laptop. The Super Bowl
was the Patriots game. A crazy | 0:16:56 | 0:17:02
comeback led by Brady at
quarterback. In the women's six | 0:17:02 | 0:17:06
Nations it was England's slam and
Wigan Warriors became club rugby | 0:17:06 | 0:17:10
league champions of the world.
Hobbling hay was beaten by brittle | 0:17:10 | 0:17:14
Bellew. Trash talk turned to
tenderness. And an unexpected | 0:17:14 | 0:17:20
knockout in the FA Cup. Normally
blink and against Premier League | 0:17:20 | 0:17:24
Burnley. In the EFL Cup, Manchester
United got the nod over Southampton. | 0:17:24 | 0:17:30
Zlatan, who else? | 0:17:30 | 0:17:35
He is a decent centre forward, that
Zlatan bloke. So is our next | 0:17:37 | 0:17:40
contender. He's helped his club beat
the best in Europe and led from the | 0:17:40 | 0:17:45
front as his team cruised to World
Cup qualification. Harry Kane has a | 0:17:45 | 0:17:48
golden boot of the highest quality.
Don't just take my word for it... | 0:17:48 | 0:17:57
What you need as a centre forward he
has. Just doesn't miss. He's made | 0:17:57 | 0:18:02
himself one of the best around now.
He can't do that golden boot | 0:18:02 | 0:18:06
glittering. There is no doubt Harry
Kane if England's brightest hope. My | 0:18:06 | 0:18:13
passion for gold has been there
since I was a kid. Ran over the park | 0:18:13 | 0:18:17
with my dad and brother. I suppose
it's something I was born with, a | 0:18:17 | 0:18:21
hunger inside, the feeling of
scoring goals never gets old, it's | 0:18:21 | 0:18:25
one of the best feelings ever.
Except for the birth of my baby | 0:18:25 | 0:18:29
daughter there's not much else that
comes close of it to be honest. | 0:18:29 | 0:18:34
Growing up I always looked at Alan
Shearer as a role model. Chirac! | 0:18:34 | 0:18:39
Yes! -- Shearer. | 0:18:39 | 0:18:42
I was similar to Harry, you have a
love of scoring goals. He hasn't had | 0:18:44 | 0:18:49
anything on a plate, whatever he has
got now he has earned. I've never | 0:18:49 | 0:18:53
let any excuse my way. There is not
a better feeling than when you see | 0:18:53 | 0:18:59
that ball hit the back of the net.
It's what I think about pretty much | 0:18:59 | 0:19:03
every day of my life. It's an
obsession. As a kid growing up you | 0:19:03 | 0:19:08
dream of playing for England. You
never think it's going to come true. | 0:19:08 | 0:19:12
It's the biggest thing that will
ever happen to you in your | 0:19:12 | 0:19:15
footballing life. Harry Kane is
there and England score. To score | 0:19:15 | 0:19:20
the last minute winner to send us to
the World Cup, incredible. Harry | 0:19:20 | 0:19:24
Kane has capped Alan Shearer's
record. He asked me the same | 0:19:24 | 0:19:28
question in the six or seven years,
am I getting nervous, and he has | 0:19:28 | 0:19:33
carried it on I'll be getting
nervous. But for now, OK. Hopefully | 0:19:33 | 0:19:37
he's feeling pressure now. He knows
what he's talking about, that Alan | 0:19:37 | 0:19:41
Shearer. Harry will be an stage
shortly. | 0:19:41 | 0:19:44
The Ice Queen will be on stage
shortly after we dive into | 0:19:44 | 0:19:47
the pool. | 0:19:47 | 0:19:48
At the World Aquatics
Championships, Tom Daley | 0:19:48 | 0:19:50
bounced back from the
disappointment of Rio to twist, | 0:19:50 | 0:19:52
tumble and turn his
way to a gold medal. | 0:19:52 | 0:19:54
Ben Proud flew to the 50m
butterfly title and | 0:19:54 | 0:19:56
in a great year for British
relay teams, the 4 x 200m | 0:19:56 | 0:19:59
freestyle team took gold. | 0:19:59 | 0:20:00
But when it comes to owning
the pool, one man dominates his | 0:20:00 | 0:20:03
discipline. | 0:20:03 | 0:20:06
With the help of Charles
Dance, it's time to | 0:20:06 | 0:20:09
lionise Adam Peaty. | 0:20:09 | 0:20:11
A great hunter waits calmly for his
time to strike. But the silence | 0:20:17 | 0:20:22
belies the internal war which drives
him. -- 2-1. The badge of the Apex | 0:20:22 | 0:20:34
Hunter, stained in ink, moulded in
gold. The alpha male who can look | 0:20:34 | 0:20:41
back at beating rivals and think
only about how to beat them again. | 0:20:41 | 0:20:46
And again. But beat them better,
beat them faster. Beat time itself. | 0:20:46 | 0:21:00
A new world record for Adam Peaty,
quite an extraordinary swim. Strain | 0:21:00 | 0:21:08
for hours, weeks, months, years, to
gain fractions of seconds. I never | 0:21:08 | 0:21:13
thought I would live to see the day.
The great Hunter strikes suddenly, | 0:21:13 | 0:21:19
stunningly. He's certainly prowling
around at the start. Just when you | 0:21:19 | 0:21:24
thought it was safe to go back in
the water... A clean start in the | 0:21:24 | 0:21:29
final of the men's hundred metres
breaststroke. Adam Peaty has | 0:21:29 | 0:21:33
destroyed the best in the world,
brilliant breaststroke swimming, | 0:21:33 | 0:21:36
making the rest of the world we set
their dreams because their dreams | 0:21:36 | 0:21:40
are no longer quick enough. Gold on
the Hundred, now on 50. He's an | 0:21:40 | 0:21:44
absolute beast. The Lion King only
rests briefly. The hunt is still on. | 0:21:44 | 0:21:54
Welcome Lion King Adam Peaty and
three Lions star striker, Harry | 0:21:59 | 0:22:04
Kane! | 0:22:04 | 0:22:08 | |
You haven't brought that lion with
you, have you? What a year, 50 goals | 0:22:25 | 0:22:30
in 50 games in this calendar year.
In the territory of Messi and | 0:22:30 | 0:22:33
Ronaldo. It must make you feel
really good. It's something I'm very | 0:22:33 | 0:22:37
proud of, you know. Messi and
Ronaldo have dominated so long, to | 0:22:37 | 0:22:43
get up there with them has been
great. Hopefully something I can | 0:22:43 | 0:22:46
continue for the years to come as
well. Five years ago you were | 0:22:46 | 0:22:49
sitting on the bench in the
championship. What has driven you on | 0:22:49 | 0:22:53
and made you be as good as you are
now? Self belief, hard work, I | 0:22:53 | 0:22:57
always say that to a young boy or
girl growing up, always believe in | 0:22:57 | 0:23:05
yourself work harder than everyone
else, hopefully one day you will | 0:23:05 | 0:23:07
make it. Two perennially golden
boots, World Cup Golden Boot next | 0:23:07 | 0:23:12
summit in the World Cup. How can
England do? Who knows? We have to go | 0:23:12 | 0:23:17
there with a clear mind, be free,
play our football, we have an | 0:23:17 | 0:23:21
amazing team, racing manager. Easier
today. We've just got to go there | 0:23:21 | 0:23:26
and do our best, it's all we want,
the nation behind us. The best thing | 0:23:26 | 0:23:30
ever would be to win it and bring it
home. We'll see what happens. That | 0:23:30 | 0:23:34
would be great, but even better
would be to beat Alan Shearer's | 0:23:34 | 0:23:37
record because he's insufferable. | 0:23:37 | 0:23:39
I know when you enter you are scared
of water, I didn't know you were so | 0:23:41 | 0:23:45
brave with Lions. It wasn't, it was
CGI... Shush. You are in the pool at | 0:23:45 | 0:23:53
Copenhagen last night winning
another gold medal. ER. Actually, | 0:23:53 | 0:24:02
not only are you brilliant, you also
very generous, because you gave that | 0:24:02 | 0:24:05
away. These top 12 guys and girls,
we can all go out there, inspire | 0:24:05 | 0:24:13
millions on TV, do what we do. Her
face, look at her little face! I | 0:24:13 | 0:24:22
mean, you know, I think, that
performance is in history. For us, | 0:24:22 | 0:24:27
hopefully, you're very successful in
your career, you've got loads of | 0:24:27 | 0:24:31
golds, for me to give it to her,
she'll remember for the rest of her | 0:24:31 | 0:24:34
life and if she wants to be the best
swimmer, best doctor, anything she | 0:24:34 | 0:24:37
wants to be, she's been inspired and
that is what sport is about for me, | 0:24:37 | 0:24:41
I said that since day one. You also
make sure you take your training to | 0:24:41 | 0:24:46
new levels. You will make an awful
lot of even athletes in here feel | 0:24:46 | 0:24:50
inadequate with the lengths you go
to. The strength you have. I think | 0:24:50 | 0:24:54
so but I think AJ was showing me up,
don't know why. Swimming is seen as | 0:24:54 | 0:25:01
you swim, swim 7000 metres, swim
another 7000 in the afternoon, but | 0:25:01 | 0:25:05
it is a lot of strength work, 35
hours a week of hammering the pool, | 0:25:05 | 0:25:09
in the gym, it's relentless. If you
slip up one day you have given 1% of | 0:25:09 | 0:25:15
the opposition. We work in very
small percentages, you can change | 0:25:15 | 0:25:18
your career by that amount of time.
If you're going to slip up one day, | 0:25:18 | 0:25:24
it could change your life. Setting
an incredible example and he | 0:25:24 | 0:25:28
continues to set new records. Good
luck to both of you tonight. To | 0:25:28 | 0:25:32
Harry Kane and Adam Peaty! APPLAUSE | 0:25:32 | 0:25:42
A reminder, please don't try to vote
yet, voting only opens later in the | 0:25:42 | 0:25:45
show once we'd seen all 12 nominees.
Many of you voted in your hundreds | 0:25:45 | 0:25:49
of thousands in 1984 when Jayne
Torvill and Christopher Dean took | 0:25:49 | 0:25:53
the main award after their perfect
bolero won the Winter Olympics gold. | 0:25:53 | 0:25:57
It is lovely to have you here
tonight. You are very welcome. In | 0:25:57 | 0:26:02
two months Britain will hope to
strike gold again on the eyes, this | 0:26:02 | 0:26:06
time with a skater who is fast,
fearless and fuelled with | 0:26:06 | 0:26:09
frustration of unfinished business.
She is short track speed skating | 0:26:09 | 0:26:13
sensation Elise Christie. | 0:26:13 | 0:26:15
When I'm on the ice I'm free. Speed,
movement, power. On the edge, never | 0:26:18 | 0:26:26
fully in control. No one ever can
be. Turmoil will stop being | 0:26:26 | 0:26:33
disqualified in rusher hurt, not as
much as the death threats that came | 0:26:33 | 0:26:41
with it. I've had a lot of abuse
over the Internet and stuff. I | 0:26:41 | 0:26:48
thought about never skating again.
It took me two years to get over | 0:26:48 | 0:26:53
that. It made me tougher than I ever
thought I could be. I've thought, I | 0:26:53 | 0:27:06
can do this. I will do this. I'm not
scared. Christy aiming to become the | 0:27:06 | 0:27:19
first British woman to win a short
track world title. I'm ready for the | 0:27:19 | 0:27:23
spotlight. It's going to be tight.
She's done it, she is the world | 0:27:23 | 0:27:31
champion, Elise Christie! Here comes
Christe on the inside, another goal. | 0:27:31 | 0:27:38
Proving something to the world. One
gold, two golds, three. The overall | 0:27:38 | 0:27:46
title goes to Elise Christie. When
something breaks your heart is takes | 0:27:46 | 0:27:50
a while to love it again but I'm
smiling now. | 0:27:50 | 0:27:55
What a story. She's here tonight,
please welcome Elise Christie! | 0:27:56 | 0:28:00
APPLAUSE | 0:28:00 | 0:28:09
You are such a lesson in resilience,
disqualify from all three races in | 0:28:15 | 0:28:19
Sochi, bounced back, three golds at
the World Championship, how do you | 0:28:19 | 0:28:23
do it? Yeah it was a really tough
few years for me, I think I was | 0:28:23 | 0:28:27
really scared of just going on the
ice. I'd done what I loved doing and | 0:28:27 | 0:28:33
tries to inspire people and I'd been
disqualified three times, suffered | 0:28:33 | 0:28:38
death threats. It was the scariest
time of my life. It was really just, | 0:28:38 | 0:28:43
you know, I was bullied through
school. I remember back then wanting | 0:28:43 | 0:28:47
to fight against the bullies and
show them I was tougher than them | 0:28:47 | 0:28:50
and show everyone I could do it. And
I think, you know, I took three | 0:28:50 | 0:28:55
years, but I turned it around and
feel I showed them all. Coming back | 0:28:55 | 0:29:02
as triple world champion was crazy.
That is indeed how to show them. | 0:29:02 | 0:29:09
When you look at your sport, it
looks so dangerous, so difficult. Do | 0:29:09 | 0:29:13
you always have to be on the edge,
taking the ultimate risk? Yeah, I | 0:29:13 | 0:29:16
think even in that video I have a
little slip. It's a crazy sport. | 0:29:16 | 0:29:23
Skating rout on that millimetre
thick blade at over 35 mph and | 0:29:23 | 0:29:29
everyday I feel like I'm going to
fall, it's so scary and so exciting. | 0:29:29 | 0:29:33
When you win you have the tactics
right, you've got the speed right, | 0:29:33 | 0:29:37
everything right, you're just in
shock, as you seem. It's the best | 0:29:37 | 0:29:42
feeling in the world, yes. In 53
days you will be out there on the | 0:29:42 | 0:29:46
eyes in the heartland of short track
speed skating in South Korea. We | 0:29:46 | 0:29:49
wish you the best in the Winter
Olympics. I screen Elise Christie. | 0:29:49 | 0:29:55

From high speed on the ice to live
in the fast lane and superbikes. | 0:30:01 | 0:30:05
These racing machines are like the
ones you see on the road but | 0:30:05 | 0:30:09
modified to raise about 200 mph
fast. The most rapid ride around is | 0:30:09 | 0:30:12
our next contender. He's from
Northern Ireland and this year he | 0:30:12 | 0:30:17
won a third successive world title.
Time to take a ride with Jonathan | 0:30:17 | 0:30:20
Rea. | 0:30:20 | 0:30:24 | |
Ever since I first wrote my first
bike, riding is my happy place. -- | 0:30:24 | 0:30:32
rode Road. Every win has a special
feeling. There is a moment of | 0:30:32 | 0:30:36
complete euphoria where it is like
the world stops for you. He ticks | 0:30:36 | 0:30:42
every box for me. Consistency,
aggression. I've grown up with | 0:30:42 | 0:30:50
bikes, of course the danger is
always there. Going to the gravel is | 0:30:50 | 0:30:55
like being in a washing machine at
150 mph but I wanted to go out and | 0:30:55 | 0:31:00
win the next day. No stopping the
man from Northern Ireland. One of my | 0:31:00 | 0:31:08
biggest motivations is winning not
just for myself but my two kids. | 0:31:08 | 0:31:14
Taking the family on the road is
great, you can never script what's | 0:31:14 | 0:31:17
going to happen next. He embraced
things. Father and racer. It kicked | 0:31:17 | 0:31:22
for him and it worked. I feel I'm
really living the dream and doing it | 0:31:22 | 0:31:28
with my family by my side. Jonny Rea
takes an historic third title! To | 0:31:28 | 0:31:34
win one is amazing really. So to win
three is incredible, it really is. | 0:31:34 | 0:31:38
My boys will have these memories for
the rest of their life and we'll all | 0:31:38 | 0:31:41
look back and think what an
incredible journey it has been. I | 0:31:41 | 0:31:45
was a kid with a dream, to race
bikes is my job. To sit here and | 0:31:45 | 0:31:49
tell you about winning three World
Championships is... I have no words. | 0:31:49 | 0:31:55
Watch out in the aisles, but here's
Jonnie! | 0:32:02 | 0:32:15
What an entrance! Come over here,
that is an entrance-and-a-half. You | 0:32:40 | 0:32:46
have not even got a hair out of
place. | 0:32:46 | 0:32:51
You managed to avoid the manager
there. I thought they might have | 0:32:54 | 0:33:00
team managers in insurance companies
scratching their heads. This is like | 0:33:00 | 0:33:05
a trial section. It is very
difficult. Parking is expensive | 0:33:05 | 0:33:08
around here. We will not keep you
long! You are an unprecedented | 0:33:08 | 0:33:14
three-time world champion. What is
it that makes you faster than all of | 0:33:14 | 0:33:19
the rest? It is such a difficult
question to hans. -- to answer. My | 0:33:19 | 0:33:29
team, they give me an incredible
bike. All my team sponsors allow me | 0:33:29 | 0:33:35
to live this incredible dream. My
wife and everyone who supports me, | 0:33:35 | 0:33:38
it is a total package. I go out
there and finish the job off. I | 0:33:38 | 0:33:42
couldn't do it without all that
support. We see all your family | 0:33:42 | 0:33:46
here. You are in a fortunate
position to take them with you. When | 0:33:46 | 0:33:50
you are out there and you take real
risks every day, does that cross | 0:33:50 | 0:33:54
your mind with these beautiful boys
back in the hotel or the trailer, | 0:33:54 | 0:33:57
wherever you are staying? Any
sportsman or woman who has kids | 0:33:57 | 0:34:02
knows how difficult it is to ride at
the top level and have a family at | 0:34:02 | 0:34:06
the same time. I am proud to bring
them on this journey. These are the | 0:34:06 | 0:34:11
best days of my life. To share that
with them is nice. Seeing your | 0:34:11 | 0:34:18
little boys shouting at you
afterwards, it creates that, | 0:34:18 | 0:34:22
heightens that experience.
Incredibly lucky. I know that | 0:34:22 | 0:34:26
everyone in Northern Ireland is
watching and supporting you. The | 0:34:26 | 0:34:29
sport is huge there. We are
delighted that you are on the short | 0:34:29 | 0:34:33
list this year. Ladies and

As a little girl I always dreamt of

THE COMMENTATOR: Three down, four to | 0:35:34 | 0:35:40

since I have won. | 0:35:40 | 0:35:54
THE COMMENTATOR: Johanna Konta...
When I went out on court I felt | 0:35:54 | 0:35:58
nerves and excitement. I felt
prepared to battle. | 0:35:58 | 0:36:04
THE COMMENTATOR: Konta has to come
from behind... Somehow Jo Konta has | 0:36:04 | 0:36:11
forced a final set. Both of us were
playing well and we were battling | 0:36:11 | 0:36:15
really well.
THE COMMENTATOR: Konta serving for | 0:36:15 | 0:36:19
the match.
APPLAUSE | 0:36:19 | 0:36:23
THE COMMENTATOR: British tennis
history has been made. 39 years | 0:36:23 | 0:36:27
since a British woman can say, I'm a
Wimbledon semi-finalist. As a young | 0:36:27 | 0:36:35
girl you dream about these matches.
It is hard to dream about what it | 0:36:35 | 0:36:38
does for you. Konta and Williams on
Centre Court. It didn't take me by | 0:36:38 | 0:36:45
surprise the level she played. I
wish she didn't play as well on the | 0:36:45 | 0:36:49
day!
THE COMMENTATOR: What a run Konta | 0:36:49 | 0:36:52
has had. A proud moment for me.
APPLAUSE | 0:36:52 | 0:36:59
She's not very far from Wimbledon
tonight. On the phone Johanna Konta. | 0:36:59 | 0:37:05
Hi, Jo. Hi. My word! That looks
magnificent. Looks like you are | 0:37:05 | 0:37:11
about to take to the piano and play
for us. I know. I was so excited to | 0:37:11 | 0:37:16
wear this dress tonight. I am so
sorry you couldn't in the end make | 0:37:16 | 0:37:19
it up here. I want to reflect on the
year you had. Two WTA tour titles, | 0:37:19 | 0:37:26
the semi-finals at Wimbledon. What
do you think made the big difference | 0:37:26 | 0:37:30
this year? I mean, I think, as my
years have been going and this was | 0:37:30 | 0:37:36
my second full year on the WTA tour,
so I am accumulating all these | 0:37:36 | 0:37:40
experiences, but I think as time
goes, I am dealing the situations a | 0:37:40 | 0:37:45
little better. Again, I am just
gaining that experience as time | 0:37:45 | 0:37:48
gives you. I have been very
fortunate that I have had these | 0:37:48 | 0:37:52
moments this season where I have
been really able to use that and | 0:37:52 | 0:37:58
have some pretty incredible
memories. And the crowds certainly | 0:37:58 | 0:38:02
embraced you, the TV viewers as
well. Your final against Halep, the | 0:38:02 | 0:38:10
most watched match ever and at
Wimbledon this year. Can you feed | 0:38:10 | 0:38:13
that? 100%. During the championships
this year I did distance myself a | 0:38:13 | 0:38:20
certain extent from newspapers and
from TV and social media. When I | 0:38:20 | 0:38:24
stepped out on to court one, on to
Centre Court, I felt the emotions | 0:38:24 | 0:38:31
from the crowd and felt their
passion and their want for me to do | 0:38:31 | 0:38:34
well. As a competitor in any arena
you definitely feed off those | 0:38:34 | 0:38:38
emotions from the people around you.
And the season will start again | 0:38:38 | 0:38:41
shortly. You will head out to
Australia. What are your hopes for | 0:38:41 | 0:38:46
2018? . I am leaving tomorrow. I am
really looking forward to getting | 0:38:46 | 0:38:51
started again. I finished my season
last year earlier than I wanted. I | 0:38:51 | 0:38:57
have been afrom the game for which
what to me seems like an eternity. I | 0:38:57 | 0:39:02
am looking forward to being on the
big stages and earn my way through | 0:39:02 | 0:39:07
tournaments to play in those big
matches. You are winning more and | 0:39:07 | 0:39:10
more fans every day. Thank you for
talking to us. Ladies and gentlemen, | 0:39:10 | 0:39:17
Jo Konta. | 0:39:17 | 0:39:19
APPLAUSE | 0:39:20 | 0:39:30
Ultimately... | 0:39:36 | 0:39:39
England in the semifinal.
The final whistle has blown on | 0:39:42 | 0:39:47
England's journey. The hosts are
through to the final. | 0:39:47 | 0:39:54
That's it... Champions of Europe!
Well, the future was certainly | 0:39:54 | 0:40:02
bright for the Netherlands with
their first European title. | 0:40:02 | 0:40:06
Congratulations to them. Our first
reward, it is in honour of Helen | 0:40:06 | 0:40:17
Rollason, who died of cancer in
1999. Her name lives on in her | 0:40:17 | 0:40:23
charity.
Those of courage, achievement and | 0:40:23 | 0:40:27
the ability to inspire in adversity.
This year's recipient showed all | 0:40:27 | 0:40:31
those qualities and more in a life
that shone too briefly. He was a | 0:40:31 | 0:40:36
beautiful little boy, who like many
loved football. He was a beautiful | 0:40:36 | 0:40:39
little boy, who unlike many had a
brutal, cruel illness to live with. | 0:40:39 | 0:40:44
During his suffering he moved
millions and raised millions, thanks | 0:40:44 | 0:40:47
to his energy, determination and
spirit. It is a rare thing to bring | 0:40:47 | 0:40:51
football fans together, but this
little boy from County Durham did | 0:40:51 | 0:40:55
just that. And he did so with the
biggest and brightest of smiles. | 0:40:55 | 0:41:01
Applause for the boy who has
chaptered the entire nation. The | 0:41:03 | 0:41:09
bravest smile you will ever see.
There is only one Bradley Lowery. | 0:41:09 | 0:41:18
Bradley was diagnosed with stage
four neuroblastoma at the age of 18 | 0:41:18 | 0:41:23
months and this is a childhood
cancer. For two years he went | 0:41:23 | 0:41:27
through very cruel and awful
chemotherapy, which is obviously | 0:41:27 | 0:41:31
hard.
I | 0:41:31 | 0:41:45 | |
think people were captored by his
story. | 0:41:50 | 0:41:53
Bradley was born into a family that
loves England. I have a photo of | 0:41:57 | 0:42:02
every year in the Sunderland strip.
He loved them and he loved Jermaine. | 0:42:02 | 0:42:07
Where's Jermaine. I remember sitting
in the changing room and hearing | 0:42:07 | 0:42:11
this little kid calling my name.
Then he saw me and he just ran over. | 0:42:11 | 0:42:15
It was probably that instant
connection really. | 0:42:15 | 0:42:19
That connection was wow! I have
never seen a connection like that | 0:42:19 | 0:42:23
before. It was genuine. The love was
genuine. I saw the way he looked at | 0:42:23 | 0:42:28
me. I knew in his eyes, he was
happy. | 0:42:28 | 0:42:34
To hear your child's name get sung.
As a parent, that is the most | 0:42:34 | 0:42:42
amazing, overwhelming thing that I
have ever and will ever experience. | 0:42:42 | 0:42:46
Guess who is going to the England
match next week? Who? Jermaine. I | 0:42:46 | 0:42:51
wanted to be there for him and see
him as much as possible. He came to | 0:42:51 | 0:42:56
the hospital, came to the house. Did
everything in his power to make | 0:42:56 | 0:43:01
Bradley feel better.
He was so loving. Even little things | 0:43:01 | 0:43:05
he would do. I remember giving him
cuddles and stuff like that. When he | 0:43:05 | 0:43:10
was cuddling me he would pat my
back. All these memories,ly never, | 0:43:10 | 0:43:14
ever forget them. Brad was always
brave. He was always full of life. | 0:43:14 | 0:43:24
And until the last moment. He raised
so much awareness for childhood | 0:43:24 | 0:43:29
cancer. When you talk about a best
friend, someone you love and trust, | 0:43:29 | 0:43:33
yes, it was a real friendship. I was
just proud of him as a person and | 0:43:33 | 0:43:40
how he put others first before
himself. | 0:43:40 | 0:43:44
I was just proud of my baby. | 0:43:44 | 0:43:49
APPLAUSE | 0:43:51 | 0:43:54
What a very, very special little
boy. England manager Gareth | 0:43:58 | 0:44:03
Southgate and England striker Harry
Kane are here to present the award. | 0:44:03 | 0:44:08
The Helen Rollason award recipient
for 2017 are the Lowery family. | 0:44:08 | 0:44:16
Please welcome Bradley's dad Carl
and mum, Gemma. | 0:44:16 | 0:44:24
APPLAUSE | 0:44:34 | 0:44:40
Everyone here in this room, you can
hear and see the admiration and | 0:44:56 | 0:45:01
respect that they have for your
family and we are so pleased to | 0:45:01 | 0:45:04
welcome you here tonight. I know
Jermain Defoe would dearly love to | 0:45:04 | 0:45:08
have been here but he was playing
this evening and only left the pitch | 0:45:08 | 0:45:11
and hour ago, he sent his best
wishes. I know, you would like to | 0:45:11 | 0:45:15
say a few words. I'm slightly
overwhelmed but I'm absolutely | 0:45:15 | 0:45:20
honoured to receive this on behalf
of Bradley. Bradley was only here | 0:45:20 | 0:45:24
for six short years but the nation
took him into their heart and he | 0:45:24 | 0:45:31
raise so much awareness for
childhood cancer it was | 0:45:31 | 0:45:35
unbelievable. I'm so proud of him.
To continue that, we've set up the | 0:45:35 | 0:45:40
Bradley Lowery foundation because we
want to continue the good work he's | 0:45:40 | 0:45:43
done. Not only are we going to be
supporting people with fundraising, | 0:45:43 | 0:45:48
we'll be giving out grants and we
have got the for Bradley campaign | 0:45:48 | 0:45:52
going because we want to build an
amazing house for sick children to | 0:45:52 | 0:45:55
go and be able to enjoy, have some
normality, and have some special | 0:45:55 | 0:46:01
memories, because we've got left now
is those special memories. We | 0:46:01 | 0:46:03
treasure them every single day. We
want to be able to get back to the | 0:46:03 | 0:46:07
people of the nation. -- give back.
Thank you so, so much for your | 0:46:07 | 0:46:14
continued support. Everyone has been
fantastic and we couldn't do it | 0:46:14 | 0:46:20
without you. So please continue to
support and together we can make a | 0:46:20 | 0:46:23
difference. APPLAUSE | 0:46:23 | 0:46:32
Lovely words, Gemma, thank you so
much. Ladies and gentlemen, on | 0:46:41 | 0:46:44
behalf of Bradley, the 2017 Helen
Rollason Award recipient, the Lowery | 0:46:44 | 0:46:50
family. | 0:46:50 | 0:46:54

when Arsenal took the cup for an

fourth time and became the first
ride in recent history to win the | 0:49:06 | 0:49:10
brutal Spanish Vuelta in the same
season. From the palette onto the | 0:49:10 | 0:49:14
podium, Chris Froome. | 0:49:14 | 0:49:18
This is a life on two wheels. Man
versus mind versus mountain. | 0:49:18 | 0:49:25
No ego here. No celebrity. Only
body, bike and 5-star brutality. For | 0:49:29 | 0:49:45
three weeks Matt Paine punctuated by
pain, punctuated by punishment, | 0:49:45 | 0:49:50
stomach churning, Podolski turning.
This tour is tough. This guy is | 0:49:50 | 0:49:58
tougher. King of the counter attack.
Master of the mountains. | 0:49:58 | 0:50:13
Unflappable, untouchable,
unbeatable. Taming the pain all the | 0:50:13 | 0:50:18
way to Paris. | 0:50:18 | 0:50:20

more, how about history? How about | 0:50:24 | 0:50:34
back-to-back grand tour victories?
He's the greatest of his generation. | 0:50:34 | 0:50:40

The voice of Stephen Graham
describing those stellar | 0:50:59 | 0:51:00
achievements. We'll hear from Chris
in a moment after we moved to the | 0:51:00 | 0:51:04
fast and furious Formula 1. The next
contender became the most decorated | 0:51:04 | 0:51:08
British driver in history. In his
latest record-breaking season Lewis | 0:51:08 | 0:51:14
Hamilton was crowned world champion
for a fourth time and in doing so | 0:51:14 | 0:51:17
cemented his place among motor
racing's legends. The young boy from | 0:51:17 | 0:51:22
Stevenage hasn't half done good. | 0:51:22 | 0:51:24
Recognise me now? And Lewis
Hamilton. They say boy racers grow | 0:51:28 | 0:51:34
out of it. Grow up. A wise up. Slow
down. Settle. My ambition is to get | 0:51:34 | 0:51:41
to Formula 1. Victory in China for
Lewis Hamilton. Get in there, Lewis. | 0:51:41 | 0:51:49
Take your time, know your place.
Sebastian Vettel wins the Bahrain | 0:51:49 | 0:51:55
Grand Prix. Knowing Ferrari are at
their best, Sebastian is at their | 0:51:55 | 0:52:01
best, I'm at my best. What's going
on? If he wants to prove he is a | 0:52:01 | 0:52:09
man, he should do it out of the car
face-to-face. Today is a bad day. | 0:52:09 | 0:52:14
The day they will understand... Let
them hear the roar. They don't feel | 0:52:14 | 0:52:22
the curves of the corners, Dempsey
the world as it disappears in your | 0:52:22 | 0:52:26
mirrors. A life lived in superfast
speed, control, in chaos. The | 0:52:26 | 0:52:37
Ferrari 's collide, Vettel is off,
it has paved the way for Lewis | 0:52:37 | 0:52:40
Hamilton to win the Singapore Grand
Prix. Not everybody loses the thrill | 0:52:40 | 0:52:45
of the chase. Lewis Hamilton is four
time Formula 1 world champion. This | 0:52:45 | 0:52:57
is the boy racer who never slowed
down. The most successful British | 0:52:57 | 0:53:01
Formula 1 driver of all time. | 0:53:01 | 0:53:02
The voice of Ashley Walters
describing who is's rise and | 0:53:04 | 0:53:11
dominance in F1. Lewis and Chris
can't be with us tonight but by the | 0:53:11 | 0:53:15
magical modern technology we will
speak to them live. We'll hear from | 0:53:15 | 0:53:18
you is in Los Angeles, but first,
Chris joins us from Majorca. Thank | 0:53:18 | 0:53:23
you so much and congratulations on
another stunning year. Out of was it | 0:53:23 | 0:53:28
to Windows two big tours so close
together? -- when those. Hi | 0:53:28 | 0:53:36
everyone. This season has been
absolutely brutal of racing. The | 0:53:36 | 0:53:43
Tour de France is the pinnacle of
the cycling calendar and this year's | 0:53:43 | 0:53:49
event was such a close race between
me and my rivals. The closest it has | 0:53:49 | 0:53:53
ever been for me. I think the
hardest fought battle of my career | 0:53:53 | 0:53:57
to date. Obviously standing on that
podium on the Champs Elysees in | 0:53:57 | 0:54:03
Paris for a fourth time, that is a
feeling that just never gets old. | 0:54:03 | 0:54:09
It's such a special feeling. To go
on to the Vuelta, the Tour of Spain, | 0:54:09 | 0:54:16
just a few weeks later, to win there
as well, that was a massive | 0:54:16 | 0:54:21
challenge for me. We heard news this
week about an adverse finding from | 0:54:21 | 0:54:26
of your you're in samples from the
Tour of Spain, over the threshold | 0:54:26 | 0:54:30
for the asthma medication, what is
your take on that and the concern it | 0:54:30 | 0:54:33
has caused? Listen, I mean, I do
completely get it. I understand the | 0:54:33 | 0:54:40
concerns. I've been a bike rider now
for ten years and I know how some | 0:54:40 | 0:54:49
people might look at our sport. And
that's a responsibility that I take | 0:54:49 | 0:54:55
really seriously. I am an asthmatic,
I have been since I was a child. I | 0:54:55 | 0:55:02
use a buffer to help me manage my
asthma. I've never taken more puffs | 0:55:02 | 0:55:06
than I am allowed. This really is a
horrible situation, if I'm honest. | 0:55:06 | 0:55:14
We're working as hard as we can to
try and get down to the of this. | 0:55:14 | 0:55:18
What happens next for you, Chris?
So, we are currently on a training | 0:55:18 | 0:55:25
camp in Spain at the moment. Looking
forward to getting home and being | 0:55:25 | 0:55:29
with the family next week for
Christmas. Before getting stuck into | 0:55:29 | 0:55:37
training for next year's Giro
d'Italia, that'll be my first goal, | 0:55:37 | 0:55:40
the tour of Italy in May, before
focusing on being ready again for | 0:55:40 | 0:55:46
the biggest challenge of next year,
which will be trying to win the Tour | 0:55:46 | 0:55:50
de France for a fifth time. That
would be an absolute dream come true | 0:55:50 | 0:55:53
for me. Not planning to take it easy
any time soon. Thank you for talking | 0:55:53 | 0:55:57
to us, Chris. Thanks a lot. | 0:55:57 | 0:56:04
Now we will attempt to move to Los
Angeles, eight hour time difference | 0:56:07 | 0:56:11
of course, so it's fairly early in
the morning there. There is Lewis | 0:56:11 | 0:56:14
Hamilton. Thanks for joining us,
Lewis. We saw you as a young go-kart | 0:56:14 | 0:56:20
driver in our film. Could you
possibly envisage at that stage in | 0:56:20 | 0:56:25
your life what he would later
achieve? Definitely not. Good | 0:56:25 | 0:56:31
evening everyone. No, definitely
not. It's been a lifelong dream, | 0:56:31 | 0:56:36
I've been racing for 25 years. I
think it is. This has been something | 0:56:36 | 0:56:42
that my family and I have dreamt of
for many, many years, so it's very, | 0:56:42 | 0:56:48
very surreal still to think I've
been in the sport for ten years, | 0:56:48 | 0:56:52
nearly 11, and we've now had the
fourth title. So just want to keep | 0:56:52 | 0:56:59
going. Wonderful achievement, four
world titles. This one in particular | 0:56:59 | 0:57:03
was a real battle with Sebastian
Vettel in Ferrari. How intense is | 0:57:03 | 0:57:08
the rivalry? It got bumpy along the
way at times. It did, but it's | 0:57:08 | 0:57:15
definitely been one of the most
exciting seasons of my career. I | 0:57:15 | 0:57:21
think particularly... Over 1500
people in my team. To build those | 0:57:21 | 0:57:25
two cars and fight against Ferrari,
which is obviously an historic, | 0:57:25 | 0:57:30
successful team... For every single
individual in the team to have to | 0:57:30 | 0:57:34
step up their game to be able to
compete with them, including myself | 0:57:34 | 0:57:39
even, was an incredible challenge
for us all. One that we all enjoyed. | 0:57:39 | 0:57:45
There is still that fire for next
year. You are the most successful | 0:57:45 | 0:57:48
British driver ever of course, with
four titles, level with Vettel. How | 0:57:48 | 0:57:54
many more have you got a new? -- got
in it you? I'm turning 33 in a few | 0:57:54 | 0:58:04
weeks but I differently feel like I
have a lot more left in me. I've got | 0:58:04 | 0:58:07
some incredible support,
particularly in the UK and around | 0:58:07 | 0:58:11
the world. The drive, the excitement
and enjoyment I have in the car | 0:58:11 | 0:58:18
currently is just as much as I had
when I was eight years old and when | 0:58:18 | 0:58:22
I first got to Formula 1. I think
I'll keep going for a while and are | 0:58:22 | 0:58:27
naturally, want to now put my focus
in preparing for next year and | 0:58:27 | 0:58:31
making sure I come back stronger,
making sure we're quick out of the | 0:58:31 | 0:58:34
box from the beginning of the
season, unlike this year. Number | 0:58:34 | 0:58:40
five is now the goal, and the
target. We certainly wish you all | 0:58:40 | 0:58:44
the best, Lewis, please say hello to
each and every one of your 1500 | 0:58:44 | 0:58:48
team-mates. A hell of a team you've
got there. Lewis Hamilton thank you | 0:58:48 | 0:58:52
very much indeed, thanks to both of
you on another record-breaking year, | 0:58:52 | 0:58:56
Chris Froome and Lewis Hamilton! | 0:58:56 | 0:58:59
This is the World Cup final, this is
England against New Zealand. | 0:59:01 | 0:59:06
# The calm before the storm #.
One of sport's greatest rivalries. | 0:59:11 | 0:59:16
England are beginning to express
themselves. This final is going back | 0:59:22 | 0:59:30
and forth the whole time. New
Zealand win the World Cup! Total | 0:59:30 | 0:59:39
devastation for England. | 0:59:39 | 0:59:41
What a final it was, it lit up
Saturday night prime-time TV. 2017 | 0:59:45 | 0:59:49
is a year I think we'll go down in
history as the year women's sport | 0:59:49 | 0:59:53
finally broke through in terms of
recognition and reward. Record | 0:59:53 | 0:59:57
audiences, record attendances and
record-breaking performances. The | 0:59:57 | 1:00:01
wave is building. With girls up and
down the country wanting to join in, | 1:00:01 | 1:00:03
even better things will come and you
will find a jumper. | 1:00:03 | 1:00:07
I hope not. A top women's team is
where we turn to next as our ninth | 1:00:10 | 1:00:15
contender took six wickets in the
comeback of all comebacks as | 1:00:15 | 1:00:19
England's cricketers won an
incredible World Cup final. Mission | 1:00:19 | 1:00:22
impossible until Anya Shrubsole put
Lord's under her spell. | 1:00:22 | 1:00:28
To have that final in front of a
packed house at Lord's was a | 1:00:28 | 1:00:34
brilliant showcase to the
tournament. The best part of playing | 1:00:34 | 1:00:36
is standing there with my team-mates
singing the anthem as loud as I can. | 1:00:36 | 1:00:42
Playing India in the final, they
were the team we started and lost | 1:00:42 | 1:00:47
to. It was great we had a chance to
put that first loss right. It was a | 1:00:47 | 1:00:52
great game for women's cricket. Won
the toss and decided to have a bat, | 1:00:52 | 1:00:57
try and get some runs on the board.
It's not constant noise, when | 1:00:57 | 1:01:04
someone hits, it is like the whole
place erupts. We were pleased with | 1:01:04 | 1:01:07
the total we got. Gave us a good
target to bowl at. | 1:01:07 | 1:01:13
Without a doubt, India were on top
for the majority of the innings. I | 1:01:13 | 1:01:17
thought at times the glam was
slipping away from us. | 1:01:17 | 1:01:21
-- the game was slipping away from
us. On track for the target. Felt | 1:01:21 | 1:01:30
there was a twist to the game. She
had her tail up and she had that | 1:01:30 | 1:01:35
glint in her eye. We got four
wickets in three overs. | 1:01:35 | 1:01:40
THE COMMENTATOR: Listen to the
crowd! Come on, one more wicket! You | 1:01:40 | 1:01:46
almost feel unstoppable at that
time. I got goose bumps and said, | 1:01:46 | 1:01:50
we'll do it here. One more wicket to
win the World Cup and that catch | 1:01:50 | 1:01:56
went up.
THE COMMENTATOR: The simplest of | 1:01:56 | 1:01:59
catches. Anna's reaction was best.
She wanted the ball back. She was | 1:01:59 | 1:02:05
like, right, I'll do it myself.
THE COMMENTATOR: England's hero. | 1:02:05 | 1:02:10
England win the World Cup. Realises
we had won the World Cup, that was | 1:02:10 | 1:02:16
special. That moment it comes
through and happens is crazy. | 1:02:16 | 1:02:20
I was looking around for people to
hug. As many people as I could. I | 1:02:20 | 1:02:27
turned around and Catherine squatted
down. She had a tear in her eye. | 1:02:27 | 1:02:31
Special memories. A special day.
I definitely think Anna's spell | 1:02:31 | 1:02:37
changed that game for us. We will be
handing her the ball in all | 1:02:37 | 1:02:42
situations when we need a wicket.
Proud she's on my team. | 1:02:42 | 1:02:46
What a match! What a win! Please
welcome Anya Shrubsole. | 1:02:46 | 1:02:54
APPLAUSE | 1:02:56 | 1:03:01
Anya, you don't have to calypso just
yet. That will be for later on. What | 1:03:09 | 1:03:14
everybody wants to know after seeing
that and that magnificent match and | 1:03:14 | 1:03:17
win, when your team needs you, the
match is in the balance, they are | 1:03:17 | 1:03:21
desperate for a wicket, what is
going on inside you? You just want | 1:03:21 | 1:03:25
to be the one to make a difference.
I came on for that spell. First | 1:03:25 | 1:03:29
balls went for four. It is up for
everyone really. You want to be the | 1:03:29 | 1:03:34
one to make a wicket and hope you
can start the ball rolling. | 1:03:34 | 1:03:38
Thankfully that happened. You were
calming them down. There was a | 1:03:38 | 1:03:42
quietness inside you. Needed one
more wicket. I was pretty confident | 1:03:42 | 1:03:46
we would be able to get that. It is
obviously a tense moment. You have | 1:03:46 | 1:03:50
to keep as calm as you can and trust
that all the practise you have done | 1:03:50 | 1:03:54
will come good. As Clare mentioned
there it has been a year for women's | 1:03:54 | 1:04:00
sport. 180 million watched that.
Three times as many as the last | 1:04:00 | 1:04:04
World Cup. We saw that beautiful
picture your dad posted of you, | 1:04:04 | 1:04:08
looking over the boundaries, a
little girl at Lord's. What do you | 1:04:08 | 1:04:11
think she would have thought that
day? Hopefully she would have | 1:04:11 | 1:04:15
thought it was pretty cool. It's a
really nice story. He's here on the | 1:04:15 | 1:04:23
front row tonight. He's pretty happy
with that tweet. It is symbolic of | 1:04:23 | 1:04:28
what we want to create. Hopefully
there were young girls or boys | 1:04:28 | 1:04:32
watching that final at Lord's and
they thought, I want to play out | 1:04:32 | 1:04:35
here. Some people watching that game
will play for England in the future. | 1:04:35 | 1:04:39
You have the best bowling stats of
any bowler in a world final omen or | 1:04:39 | 1:04:45
women, which is just phenomenal.
APPLAUSE | 1:04:45 | 1:04:49
And your team-mates spoke so highly
of you, emotionally of you. What did | 1:04:49 | 1:04:53
it feel like when you were watching
that? It always gives you goose | 1:04:53 | 1:04:58
bumps every time you wacht. I am
sure that is the same for all the | 1:04:58 | 1:05:01
other girls. It was an amazing day
to be part of history, to be world | 1:05:01 | 1:05:06
champions. Doesn't get better than
that. It duntz. Best of luck. Ladies | 1:05:06 | 1:05:13
and gentlemen, Anya Shrubsole.
APPLAUSE | 1:05:13 | 1:05:20
It stood for 100 years. Celtic's 62
games unbeaten. | 1:05:22 | 1:05:30
The 100 milestones, the 100th major
trophy and then that 100-year-old | 1:05:30 | 1:05:35
record broken. This unbeaten run of
today may pale alongside the wonder | 1:05:35 | 1:05:45
of 67 - the Lions of 50 years ago,
still the brightest beacon. The | 1:05:45 | 1:05:50
invincibles!
But to go so long undefeated is | 1:05:50 | 1:05:56
still to make history.
The elongated and the on-going | 1:05:56 | 1:06:02
process of placing Celtic ahead of
and above all others in Scotland. | 1:06:02 | 1:06:10
Can you believe it - their
69-unbeaten run ended today. | 1:06:10 | 1:06:21
Trophies galore and thanks to James
for the story. Staying the beautiful | 1:06:21 | 1:06:25
game, England's youngsters showed
its international future could be a | 1:06:25 | 1:06:28
bright one. At under-17, under 19
and under 20 level. They took on the | 1:06:28 | 1:06:34
best in Europe, the world and won.
Three teams, three cups, three | 1:06:34 | 1:06:38
Lions.
The future's invisible, but | 1:06:38 | 1:06:42
sometimes we get a glimpse of what
might be. Reflections in the eyes of | 1:06:42 | 1:06:46
Lions. But young Lions, born after
football came home in 1966. Time for | 1:06:46 | 1:06:54
one of hope.
England's winning over here. What | 1:06:54 | 1:06:59
you doing over there.
It is one of those once in a | 1:06:59 | 1:07:06
lifetime opportunities for these
teenagers... | 1:07:06 | 1:07:13
# Looking like zebras, looking like
an the antelopee for the young | 1:07:19 | 1:07:30
Lions. | 1:07:30 | 1:07:31
# From the south side. They don't
want to get angry | 1:07:32 | 1:07:36
# They mustn't beat my team.
# Shout the under 19s | 1:07:36 | 1:07:42
# The European Championship.
# Beat the German | 1:07:42 | 1:07:47
# Holland took shots
# World Cup got it locked | 1:07:47 | 1:07:52
# Overdue
# Brewster with the shots | 1:07:52 | 1:07:57
# Into the madness
# Never lost no matches | 1:07:57 | 1:08:01
# Other teams need practise
# Mexico should have mentioned that | 1:08:01 | 1:08:07
# Couldn't get past our centrebacks
# Yeah, so crazy. | 1:08:07 | 1:08:12
England have won the World Cup!
Whoa! | 1:08:12 | 1:08:21 | |
# Ain't nobody get spared...
# The Year of the Youth will soon be | 1:08:21 | 1:08:27
a memory as golden boys grow to men
# Can they conquer the world all | 1:08:27 | 1:08:32
over again. Thank you. That is my
Christmas number one Krept and | 1:08:32 | 1:08:38
Konan. So, Liverpool big it up for
the winning wonder kids. | 1:08:38 | 1:08:52
APPLAUSE | 1:08:53 | 1:09:03
Many congratulations to you all.
Astonishing efforts from all of you. | 1:09:13 | 1:09:17
The future is indeed bright. We've
got obviously lots of them here. We | 1:09:17 | 1:09:23
will speak to Rhian Brewster, top
scorer, he plays for Liverpool. | 1:09:23 | 1:09:31
Thought that would get a round of
applause. It must be great to be | 1:09:31 | 1:09:36
part of this golden bun. Do we have
a new generation to look forward to? | 1:09:36 | 1:09:43
Showing that winning under 17s,
under 19 and under 20 Cups was good. | 1:09:43 | 1:09:48
It shows the people coming through,
like the teams, we have a golden | 1:09:48 | 1:09:54
generation coming through and
hopefully win many cups to come. | 1:09:54 | 1:10:00
Premier League managers give these
kids a game. That's what we want. | 1:10:00 | 1:10:04
APPLAUSE
Quite right! Describe the emotions | 1:10:04 | 1:10:10
of actually binning it? After the
game, when the final whistle went, I | 1:10:10 | 1:10:14
didn't know what to do. Looked at
the bench, everyone started running | 1:10:14 | 1:10:18
at us and it was an amazing feeling
to win a World Cup. Obviously | 1:10:18 | 1:10:24
devastating losing in the under 17
European Cup to Spain. So to get | 1:10:24 | 1:10:29
back and win 5-2 against them, it
was an amazing feeling to win 5-2 | 1:10:29 | 1:10:35
and the lads kept their head and we
scored five goals in the final. Who | 1:10:35 | 1:10:38
does that? Wonderful achievement!
Who says you cannot win anything | 1:10:38 | 1:10:42
with kids? | 1:10:42 | 1:10:45
Nobody would say that. With the boys
on stage, let's focus on the Young | 1:10:46 | 1:10:51
Sports Personality of the Year. The
judges were spoilt for choice this | 1:10:51 | 1:11:02
year. Ellie Downie won many. Of
course Rhian Brewster, who we have | 1:11:02 | 1:11:12
had a chat to there had a World Cup
to remember. In the end, after much | 1:11:12 | 1:11:17
deliberation, the panel made their
difficult choice. They did and they | 1:11:17 | 1:11:21
choose a young footballer, who was
voted player of the under-17 World | 1:11:21 | 1:11:26
Cup, after he scored two goals in
that thrilling final. It gives me | 1:11:26 | 1:11:31
pleasure to announce the BBC Young
Sports Personality of the Year | 1:11:31 | 1:11:40
personality is Phil Foden.
That is for you. | 1:11:40 | 1:11:44
APPLAUSE | 1:11:44 | 1:11:49
Phil, you were voted player of the
tournament. Tell us what it meant to | 1:11:51 | 1:11:54
you? It meant everything to me. I
would like to thank my team-mates | 1:11:54 | 1:11:58
because without them it couldn't
have been possible, really. And | 1:11:58 | 1:12:02
also, since then, you have made your
Champions League debut for | 1:12:02 | 1:12:06
Manchester City. Yesterday a Premier
League debut, coming on as a | 1:12:06 | 1:12:12
substitute - it must be fun? I feel
very lucky to be part of a great | 1:12:12 | 1:12:16
team. I would like to thank all the
players, all the staff and my mum | 1:12:16 | 1:12:21
and dad for making this possible.
Well done Phil. Please show your | 1:12:21 | 1:12:27
appreciation for England's future
football stars and young personal | 1:12:27 | 1:12:34
sport Sports Personality of the
Year, Phil Foden. | 1:12:34 | 1:12:41
APPLAUSE | 1:12:41 | 1:12:43
Look beyond Andy Murray at Wimbledon
and you could find defending | 1:12:45 | 1:12:49
champions. Two here, hue wit and
Reid. And here's another. | 1:12:49 | 1:12:58
Hewetson and Reid repeated -- Hewitt
and Reid repeated it. | 1:12:58 | 1:13:04
There was a third for Ra if, a. And
an American surprise in Sloan | 1:13:04 | 1:13:09
Stephens. No secret about Speith.
The women's Open went to Kim and the | 1:13:09 | 1:13:19
US PGA to Justin Thomas. Staying in
the States, a statement, in the NFL | 1:13:19 | 1:13:26
some took a knee, America took a
view. In the County Championship, | 1:13:26 | 1:13:30
the only way was Essex.
The Less fizz in the water, still | 1:13:30 | 1:13:37
there was one British pararowing
gold. Smaller boats, bigger success. | 1:13:37 | 1:13:43
A titdle to Liam Heath.
In the women's there was a Grand | 1:13:43 | 1:13:48
Slam. And Franklin was the most
rapid through the rapids. British | 1:13:48 | 1:13:55
gold at the European eventing
championships. Six more in the | 1:13:55 | 1:13:58
dressage. A first for Dave Ellis and
Andy Lewis held on to his world | 1:13:58 | 1:14:05
title. A success defence for Hull FC
in the challenge Cup. Their fifth. | 1:14:05 | 1:14:18
Next year the Power finally goes
off. What a player he's been. | 1:14:18 | 1:14:24
The Power was turned back on again
at the London Stadium for world | 1:14:24 | 1:14:30
champs number two.
Here we go then... London's calling. | 1:14:30 | 1:14:36
Silver medal for Great Britain! He
has stood like a colossus over this | 1:14:40 | 1:14:46
sport for so long. The men's four by
100 m relay. Great start, Great | 1:14:46 | 1:14:55
Britain leading. Adam Gemili...
Silver for Great Britain and | 1:14:55 | 1:15:00
Northern Ireland. It | 1:15:00 | 1:15:05
Britain in front. He'll be chased by
the great man. Mitchell break is | 1:15:14 | 1:15:20
going to get it. Way he goes. --
Blake. Mitchell Blake... It's going | 1:15:20 | 1:15:29
to be gold! That was phenomenal.
Usain Bolt, sadly, ends for him in | 1:15:29 | 1:15:46
his team. Great Britain have won the
gold medal. Those dramatic world | 1:15:46 | 1:15:54
athletic Championships. They were
spectacular. Usain Bolt and the | 1:15:54 | 1:15:59
broken unbeaten while the British
boys bolted up. Not only was that | 1:15:59 | 1:16:05
the last time we would see the
fastest man of all-time race, it | 1:16:05 | 1:16:08
would be the last time we saw the
greatest British athlete of all time | 1:16:08 | 1:16:11
went on the track in a major
championships. How we will miss the | 1:16:11 | 1:16:15
magnificent Mo Farah. Mo Farah
fights for the silver. The greatest | 1:16:15 | 1:16:27
champions, one day it comes to an
end. Go on, good lad. What is your | 1:16:27 | 1:16:39
name? Mohammed Cobra. -- Mohammed
Farah. | 1:16:39 | 1:16:48
I've had a marvellous career, having
a dream and following that dream | 1:17:26 | 1:17:30
hasn't been easy but it has been
worth it and I've enjoyed every | 1:17:30 | 1:17:33
minute of it. In front of his home
crowd in the city you know so well, | 1:17:33 | 1:17:41
the city that he loves. | 1:17:41 | 1:17:44
The British best with the heart
pounding beneath it. A one-man world | 1:17:48 | 1:17:53
superpower. APPLAUSE
What an athlete, what memories we | 1:17:53 | 1:18:02
have. Mo can't be here but he can
join us from St Mary's University in | 1:18:02 | 1:18:06
London where a track has been named
in his honour. Good evening to you | 1:18:06 | 1:18:10
two and Hussein and Rhiannon. You
are now because of your incredible | 1:18:10 | 1:18:16
achievements... Here we go...
Because of your incredible | 1:18:16 | 1:18:21
achievements up there in those
echelons with the likes of Carl | 1:18:21 | 1:18:24
Lewis, Usain Bolt, Michael Johnson,
in terms of the golds you have won | 1:18:24 | 1:18:29
on the global stage, you've left no
stone unturned and obviously can | 1:18:29 | 1:18:33
have no regrets with that career.
LAUGHTER | 1:18:33 | 1:18:39
Did you get any of that? Know I
didn't, sorry. Daddy! You've been | 1:18:39 | 1:18:48
blinking marvellous, we absolutely
love you and salute everything | 1:18:48 | 1:18:50
you've done in your career. It's
clear to see the legacy of what you | 1:18:50 | 1:18:54
have in your life, your wonderful
family. You are at the Sir Mo Farah | 1:18:54 | 1:18:58
track, to have the track you started
off with named after you is a | 1:18:58 | 1:19:01
wonderful thing. It's amazing,
everything I ever dream Delph. I was | 1:19:01 | 1:19:07
one of the few at the St Mary's
college here, I never imagined it | 1:19:07 | 1:19:13
would be named after me, let alone,
you know, what happened to me over | 1:19:13 | 1:19:17
the years, it's been an incredible
career. I think a sale is getting | 1:19:17 | 1:19:21
more airtime than you at the moment,
he is near your Mike, if Rhianna can | 1:19:21 | 1:19:25
hold him I will ask you one quick
question. Thank you very much. | 1:19:25 | 1:19:30
Baby-sitting money coming to you
later on. A lot of people would | 1:19:30 | 1:19:35
think, you are heading for a easier
life. Bye bye! LAUGHTER | 1:19:35 | 1:19:42
APPLAUSE
I love Rhianna by the way, I've | 1:19:42 | 1:19:47
always loved Rhianna, thank you for
that. I love Hussein as well, | 1:19:47 | 1:19:51
obviously. We want to talk to you
about your achievements. Turning | 1:19:51 | 1:19:54
your attention to the road, the
marathon, some people might think it | 1:19:54 | 1:19:58
is heading into retirement. You will
run more miles than you ever have, | 1:19:58 | 1:20:01
this is not an easy ask, is it? Not
easy at all, you know. At the track, | 1:20:01 | 1:20:10
going to the marathon, it's going to
be quite easy, get into it. But | 1:20:10 | 1:20:14
since finishing track, it's been
sort of trying to get my body used | 1:20:14 | 1:20:19
to doing longer distance, cover more
distance, training longer effort. | 1:20:19 | 1:20:23
It's all right, going all right. I'm
enjoying it but, you know, it's no | 1:20:23 | 1:20:29
walk in the park which I thought
originally... I am just a track | 1:20:29 | 1:20:33
runner, I get on the road... Bethink
your microphone might have dropped | 1:20:33 | 1:20:38
down, there it is... This interview
has everything! Mo all I want to say | 1:20:38 | 1:20:49
to you is best of luck tonight, with
your career on the road, and thank | 1:20:49 | 1:20:52
you so much for the incredible
moments you have given all of us. | 1:20:52 | 1:20:58
Thank you everyone am sorry I can't
be there tonight, I want to wish all | 1:20:58 | 1:21:02
the nominees best of luck and, you
know, what an amazing year we had, | 1:21:02 | 1:21:06
particularly the world under 19.
Everyone has been amazing. Mo thank | 1:21:06 | 1:21:12
you so much, ladies and gentlemen,
Sir Mo Farah, a legend, Golden boy | 1:21:12 | 1:21:15
of British athletics. | 1:21:15 | 1:21:18
The best interview ever! Let's meet
our next short listed athlete, from | 1:21:21 | 1:21:26
Liverpool, who is taking tae kwon do
to new levels. In 2017 she was | 1:21:26 | 1:21:31
crowned world champion for a second
time and became the first athlete to | 1:21:31 | 1:21:34
win all four Grand Prix titles in a
calendar year. They call her Queen B | 1:21:34 | 1:21:38
but in these parts Bianca Walkden is
known as our Bianca. | 1:21:38 | 1:21:45
What you need to know about Our
Bianca Bianca. She is a fighter. | 1:21:47 | 1:21:54
Plagued by injury and with two knees
patched up with eight pins, she | 1:21:54 | 1:22:00
battled for bronze in Rio last year.
Look at that, cracking shot. Bianca | 1:22:00 | 1:22:07
Walkden, Olympic Games bronze
medallist. Made of tough stuff, as | 1:22:07 | 1:22:12
Scousers. But strength of body is
not enough. You need strength of | 1:22:12 | 1:22:19
mind to be a fighter. Two years ago
her grandad passed away on the day | 1:22:19 | 1:22:27
of the World Championship final.
When the world kicked her, she | 1:22:27 | 1:22:32
kicked back. Harder. | 1:22:32 | 1:22:35
This summer, Our Bianca set out to
defend her title. Six minutes to | 1:22:45 | 1:22:50
decide who will be world champion.
Poised, composed in control. | 1:22:50 | 1:22:56
Untouchable all day, unstoppable.
World-class! Sometimes we win for | 1:22:56 | 1:23:02
ourselves. Sometimes we win for
others. There is something greater | 1:23:02 | 1:23:06
than gold that drives us. Yet again,
Queen B would not be defeated. I | 1:23:06 | 1:23:14
guess you can never keep a good
Scouser down. Two time world | 1:23:14 | 1:23:19
champion, British tae kwon do
history. That's all you need to know | 1:23:19 | 1:23:23
when it comes to Our Bianca.
APPLAUSE | 1:23:23 | 1:23:32
We'll meet Bianca shortly after
we've turned our attention to | 1:23:32 | 1:23:35
boxing. In August 11 time world
champion Floyd made whether the | 1:23:35 | 1:23:39
ultimate fighter, McGregor in a
fight that packed punch but had a | 1:23:39 | 1:23:45
fistful of dollars. -- Floyd
Mayweather. In front of 90,000 | 1:23:45 | 1:23:51
people at Wembley a modest young man
faced a wily old warrior for the | 1:23:51 | 1:23:56
heavyweight championship of the
world. And when the bell went it | 1:23:56 | 1:23:59
would prove to be a knockout night
for our final contender. Anthony | 1:23:59 | 1:24:03
Joshua. | 1:24:03 | 1:24:04
Anthony Joshua on the floor for the
first time in his career. Wladimir | 1:24:07 | 1:24:11
Klitschko moving in for the finish.
For a split-second you don't know | 1:24:11 | 1:24:15
what's happened. A lot of things
running through your head. I thought | 1:24:15 | 1:24:18
myself, I've done well to get here
but this isn't where it ends. I | 1:24:18 | 1:24:22
never came in this gym to be a
boxer, I was still bricklaying, | 1:24:22 | 1:24:28
still working. Still had to find
ways to make ends meet. Seeing the | 1:24:28 | 1:24:32
different sides of the table. Both I
can look at in a positive light. I'd | 1:24:32 | 1:24:38
like to officially announce Anthony
Joshua against Wladimir Klitschko. | 1:24:38 | 1:24:41
It starts in a little gym around
Finchley. And we've taken it to the | 1:24:41 | 1:24:45
world. It was a barnstormer for
sure. | 1:24:45 | 1:24:52 | |
Rising to his feet like a
terminator! Anthony Joshua down! | 1:24:55 | 1:25:03
Seven, aged... I realise this is a
fight I was never willing to lose. | 1:25:03 | 1:25:08
As he threw the right hand that was
coming to my head, I went under, | 1:25:08 | 1:25:13
left hook, followed with the
uppercut. What an uppercut from | 1:25:13 | 1:25:17
Anthony Joshua, my goodness, rudd
Amir Klitschko shaken. That was the | 1:25:17 | 1:25:21
beginning of the end for Wladimir
Klitschko. Timber! When this shows | 1:25:21 | 1:25:29
up, there is a beast in me. I'm
never going to give up. On this | 1:25:29 | 1:25:34
show, wherever I get to now... Is
much better than where I started in | 1:25:34 | 1:25:40
the first place. Champion of the
world! Ladies and gentlemen, let's | 1:25:40 | 1:25:49
get ready to rumble... With
heavyweights Bianca Walkden and | 1:25:49 | 1:25:54
Anthony Joshua! | 1:25:54 | 1:25:56
What a welcome for both of you.
Bianca, your home crowd, walking out | 1:26:13 | 1:26:18
with AJ, Sue Johnstone having done
the voice-over for your film, pretty | 1:26:18 | 1:26:22
good isn't it? I can't ask for much
more could I, really? You had a | 1:26:22 | 1:26:27
phenomenal year, four Grand Prix
titles and nobody has done that and | 1:26:27 | 1:26:30
win the World Championship, what
makes you unbeatable? I think it's | 1:26:30 | 1:26:34
just that I never give up and I've
got like a motto. I always want to | 1:26:34 | 1:26:39
go out there and I always say to
myself, no matter what happens, I'll | 1:26:39 | 1:26:42
die trying. My dad always texts me
before I go in the ring saying, no | 1:26:42 | 1:26:48
mercy. I've literally got to give
them get as much as I can I have no | 1:26:48 | 1:26:54
choice to go out there and try to
kick someone in the face and knock | 1:26:54 | 1:26:57
them out. She puts it so well. You
had terrible, terrible trouble with | 1:26:57 | 1:27:02
injuries. You missed London 2012,
does it mean even more to you now | 1:27:02 | 1:27:09
because of what you've been through?
I think if I didn't go through all | 1:27:09 | 1:27:13
of that, like, it wouldn't make me
who I am today. I wouldn't go out | 1:27:13 | 1:27:18
there die trying because everything
I've been through has been so hard. | 1:27:18 | 1:27:22
I just want to, like, remember what
I've been through, to remember to go | 1:27:22 | 1:27:25
into the ring, so when I do go out
there I give absolutely everything | 1:27:25 | 1:27:29
I've got my blood, sweat and tears.
I think that is what has made me who | 1:27:29 | 1:27:33
I am. Because I am a Scouser, it is
deep down inside me, so I've got to | 1:27:33 | 1:27:38
fight for the win. You are doing
that tonight. We wouldn't encourage | 1:27:38 | 1:27:42
people to go out and kick each other
in the head. You do it so well. | 1:27:42 | 1:27:46
Please vote for me, yeah? | 1:27:46 | 1:27:49
Anthony, what year it has been for
you, that fight with Klitschko was | 1:27:51 | 1:27:55
so special, a rocky fight. It was
tough, tougher than I expected. All | 1:27:55 | 1:28:00
credit to him. Without him we
wouldn't be able to put on a good | 1:28:00 | 1:28:04
fight. Credit to the promoters and
manager and so forth, because the | 1:28:04 | 1:28:07
stage was set and it's just, are we
going to deliver in terms of the | 1:28:07 | 1:28:12
silo fight? We both came together
and it gelled well. Boxing is | 1:28:12 | 1:28:17
notorious for trash talking. But
that isn't really your style. You've | 1:28:17 | 1:28:21
shown you don't have to do that to
win a scrap. Life is about how you | 1:28:21 | 1:28:26
interpret things, so when I first
started boxing my interpretation was | 1:28:26 | 1:28:33
about Mike Tyson, the gutter side,
then I realised the discipline, the | 1:28:33 | 1:28:38
regiment, the likes of Wladimir
Klitschko and how they conduct | 1:28:38 | 1:28:41
themselves. I tried to change the
angle. It's good for the sport, | 1:28:41 | 1:28:46
isn't it? There are kids watching
and so on so I get that side of | 1:28:46 | 1:28:49
things. It's like what you were
saying, you need that gut which you | 1:28:49 | 1:28:54
show in the fight. Outside of that I
have calmness and respect. It's | 1:28:54 | 1:28:57
tough when somebody keeps poking
you, how do you keep a live on that? | 1:28:57 | 1:29:03
-- lid on that. Everybody wants to
know who is next. Tony Bellew? He's | 1:29:03 | 1:29:11
shaking his head, Tony Bellew, don't
fancy that one? Tony's my guy, I | 1:29:11 | 1:29:17
support him through whatever, thick
and thin. Who's going to be? Me, I | 1:29:17 | 1:29:22
think definitely we have to get our
hands on another championship belt, | 1:29:22 | 1:29:26
so there are five championship
belts, we've got three of them. Next | 1:29:26 | 1:29:30
year... It's crazy because so soon
we have the possibility of capturing | 1:29:30 | 1:29:33
the other two. First and foremost,
that is the long-term plan. Let's | 1:29:33 | 1:29:37
look at the short term. Jessica
Parker has been very realistic in | 1:29:37 | 1:29:41
terms of when he's going to fight an
internal negotiations. A fight that | 1:29:41 | 1:29:46
can potentially happen in March or
April. Hopefully that will take | 1:29:46 | 1:29:49
place. Good luck with that and good
luck tonight. Good luck to Bianca | 1:29:49 | 1:29:56
Walkden. Anthony Joshua ladies and
gentlemen! APPLAUSE | 1:29:56 | 1:30:00

To come, we review an action--packed
year in rugby union. Head downunder | 1:32:03 | 1:32:13
for the World Cup and the cricketing
year with a dear old friend. The | 1:32:13 | 1:32:24
road to Russia was an easy journey.
At this stage it is helpful if it is | 1:32:24 | 1:32:28
uneventful. What ifs and what nows
for Scotland and Wales - World Cups | 1:32:28 | 1:32:34
over before they began. Play-off
plain for the republic and Northern | 1:32:34 | 1:32:38
Ireland, condemned by a handball
that wasn't. It hurts more when it's | 1:32:38 | 1:32:41
not fair. Netherlands and Italy also
missed out. Frustration for England | 1:32:41 | 1:32:46
in the women's Ashes, too. A decent
draw, not enough to return the urn. | 1:32:46 | 1:32:50

two points. Scotland smashed | 1:33:47 | 1:33:52
Australia by 29. Something is

Thanks to Patrick Geary for all
those rave reviews this evening. | 1:33:58 | 1:34:01
Scotland ended the year impressively
and it is lovely to have one of | 1:34:01 | 1:34:06
their greats and a Lions legend with
us tonight, Doddie Weir is battling | 1:34:06 | 1:34:15
motor neurone disease. It is
fantastic how you are raising | 1:34:15 | 1:34:19
awareness of this illness. You are

2017 has been a busy one for the
15-aside code. In the company of | 1:34:24 | 1:34:31
Eddie Butler, let's review the two
biggies, the Six Nations and that | 1:34:31 | 1:34:38
memorable Lions' tour of New
Zealand. The Six Nations of 2017 - | 1:34:38 | 1:34:42
the team to beat, England.
Too strong for everyone again. | 1:34:42 | 1:34:49
Unbeaten under coach Ed di Jones,
straining to reach new heights. | 1:34:49 | 1:34:53
Questions about Italy's place in all
of this. | 1:34:53 | 1:34:57
Elsewhere, to play well enough to
become a Lion. The tour to New | 1:34:57 | 1:35:03
Zealand.
Scotland beat Ireland to put | 1:35:03 | 1:35:06
themselves in the frame.
Only to come unstuck against | 1:35:06 | 1:35:10
England.
Wales beat Ireland, having come | 1:35:10 | 1:35:15
unstuck against England.
England had the title won, with a | 1:35:15 | 1:35:20
round to go.
But they then came unstuck against | 1:35:20 | 1:35:24
Ireland. No Grand Slam - a first
defeet under Eddie Jones. | 1:35:24 | 1:35:33
Those that had feuded in the Six
Nations now become blood brothers as | 1:35:33 | 1:35:38
Lions in New Zealand - the toughest
tour of them all, only once had the | 1:35:38 | 1:35:43
Lions ever won here. | 1:35:43 | 1:35:48
The Kiwi media turned | 1:35:50 | 1:36:04
If it wasn't tough enough already,
it was a whole lot tougher now. | 1:36:06 | 1:36:12
The second test in Wellington - who
was feeling the strain now? Williams | 1:36:12 | 1:36:18
sent off. Patience required.
Patience rewarded. All square. | 1:36:18 | 1:36:27
Back to Auckland for the decider. A
strain of nerve. | 1:36:27 | 1:36:40
A drawn decider. A drawn series, but
not an anti- climax. More a dead | 1:36:40 | 1:36:47
heat.
Two mighty teams, inseparable on the | 1:36:47 | 1:36:53
finish line. | 1:36:53 | 1:36:55

Sport has the power to excite and
inspire. It brings people from | 1:38:04 | 1:38:08
different countries together with
one positive purpose in mind. In | 1:38:08 | 1:38:12
July, athletes from 97 countries
gathered in Turkey for the summer | 1:38:12 | 1:38:18
Deaflympics. In August, 2,600
travelled to Sheffield for the GB | 1:38:18 | 1:38:25
national games, that was an event to
remember. In September, the third | 1:38:25 | 1:38:29
Invictus Games were held in Toronto,
as Prince Harry pointed out they | 1:38:29 | 1:38:37
encapsulate sport to provide pride
and can change the lives not only of | 1:38:37 | 1:38:40
those taking part, but those
watching as well. More than ever, we | 1:38:40 | 1:38:45
reminded how important sport is in
all our lives, entertains us, keeps | 1:38:45 | 1:38:50
us healthy and brings communities
together and helps us heal. | 1:38:50 | 1:38:55

the planet! What can I say? Say no | 1:42:36 | 1:42:44
more! | 1:42:44 | 1:42:46 | |

something! Before we present this
award we want to thank all those | 1:43:41 | 1:43:45
people who give up their time to
help with grass root sports, they | 1:43:45 | 1:43:50
encourage, motivate. They are the
engines that drive sport in this | 1:43:50 | 1:43:53
country. Using the hashtag BigThank

regions we have singled out 15 | 1:44:00 | 1:44:05
people as Unsung Heros. A big thank

Hero. | 1:44:14 | 1:44:18 | |
In Hinckley Denise is helping people
to get fit. It's nothing special. It | 1:44:21 | 1:44:26
is just what you do. You get other
people moving a bit more. After her | 1:44:26 | 1:44:33
night shift she goes to her running
and walking group, encouraging the | 1:44:33 | 1:44:37
local community to be physically
active. It is that getting off the | 1:44:37 | 1:44:40
sofa and going for the first time
that is the hard bit. Just get up | 1:44:40 | 1:44:44
and go. She's bubbly, that is why so
many go out running. She supports | 1:44:44 | 1:44:51
everybody and gets so many involved
in the group. It is keeping me fit. | 1:44:51 | 1:44:54
I have made a lot of new friends.
Denise also helps the elderly, | 1:44:54 | 1:45:01
inspiring them to become stronger.
She keeps us all in line and makes | 1:45:01 | 1:45:05
sure we do our exercises.
She is changing people's lives. She | 1:45:05 | 1:45:13
does so much for other people. She's
a superstar. I feel I am worth | 1:45:13 | 1:45:18
something. She makes me feel that.
We think she's the tops. | 1:45:18 | 1:45:23
When people achieve things that they
didn't think was possible, it makes | 1:45:23 | 1:45:28
me feel, you know, just so proud, so
proud of them. | 1:45:28 | 1:45:32
She provides the motivation for
others to get up and get active, the | 1:45:36 | 1:45:40

Denise, bring your ward, come over | 1:46:09 | 1:46:20
here. Thank you. Look. That is a
standing ovation for you, for | 1:46:20 | 1:46:24
everything you've done. But also for
everything you encourage other | 1:46:24 | 1:46:30
people to do, would you like to say
a few words? Thank you so much | 1:46:30 | 1:46:34
everybody, this is so overwhelming.
But like to say thank you to Emma | 1:46:34 | 1:46:41
Silvester who listens to what I
wanted to do, gave me all the tools | 1:46:41 | 1:46:44
I needed to do it. I'd like to say
thank you to the people at the | 1:46:44 | 1:46:49
Hinckley and Bosworth Borough
Council, to Liz and Tareq and give | 1:46:49 | 1:46:51
me support all the time. And to
Graham who nominated me. And Paula | 1:46:51 | 1:46:56
just for being Paula. I'd like to
say thank you to my family, my | 1:46:56 | 1:47:01
partner Chris, who is my unsung
hero, I couldn't do without him. | 1:47:01 | 1:47:05
He's the love of my life. My
children, granny and Jamie who I'm | 1:47:05 | 1:47:11
incredibly proud of. -- Grainne.
Inactivity can be more detrimental | 1:47:11 | 1:47:19
to your health than smoking and
there are thousands of people up and | 1:47:19 | 1:47:22
down the country like me doing a
spectrum of sports that you can go | 1:47:22 | 1:47:26
and get involved with. Find out who
they are and go and join in. Well | 1:47:26 | 1:47:34
done, you. Get active, get out
there, make friends, hopefully you | 1:47:34 | 1:47:38

Bitter Rugby league. The 15th World
Cup was held across Australia, New | 1:48:31 | 1:48:35
Zealand and Papua New Guinea this
autumn. 14 nations took part over | 1:48:35 | 1:48:40
five weeks and in the end it came
down to the finest margins and a | 1:48:40 | 1:48:44
deja vu moment in a final between
those best of enemies, Australia and | 1:48:44 | 1:48:48
England. | 1:48:48 | 1:48:51
Tonight we start with a rugby league
try that will surely go down amongst | 1:48:52 | 1:48:55
the greatest of the decade. Is
anybody going to catch? I don't | 1:48:55 | 1:49:00
think anybody is going to catch him.
Everybody saying go, go, go. He for | 1:49:00 | 1:49:05
the try. Life is a game of moments,
and so is rugby league. This was a | 1:49:05 | 1:49:11
World Cup of sparkle and squander.
An Irish good bye bye fingertip. The | 1:49:11 | 1:49:18
Pacific powerhouses declared a New
World order. Happy for this moment. | 1:49:18 | 1:49:26
This is extraordinary. This moment
meant the world. Fiji are into the | 1:49:26 | 1:49:35
semifinals. England battled,
strange, until in the Tongan | 1:49:35 | 1:49:42
cauldron, they met fire with ice.
Their onslaught in the final | 1:49:42 | 1:49:48
moments, what might have been if not
for a fingertip. He's lost it! | 1:49:48 | 1:49:53
England have won. England hope for
glory, Australia expect. To win a | 1:49:53 | 1:50:01
World Cup you must make moments
happen, you must take your chance, | 1:50:01 | 1:50:06
and when a ghost from the past
revisits the... A fingertip. | 1:50:06 | 1:50:15
Australia's protector by a
fingernail. Those England players | 1:50:15 | 1:50:19
sick to their knees in utter
desperation. Agony again for | 1:50:19 | 1:50:24
England. Sony but so far away,
thanks to Jodie Whittaker, the new | 1:50:24 | 1:50:31
Doctor Who for that review. And well
done to the guys out there. It was | 1:50:31 | 1:50:37
the Australian women, the Jillaroos,
who triumphed. This is your last | 1:50:37 | 1:50:42
chance to vote, if you haven't done
it, do it now, don't be the person | 1:50:42 | 1:50:46
who says, my favourite didn't win
because I forgot to vote. The list | 1:50:46 | 1:50:52
of winners, as you would expect, for
lifetime achievement, are megastars | 1:50:52 | 1:50:57
and this year's recipient is no
exception. As the legend himself, | 1:50:57 | 1:51:01
Michael Johnson, tells us. | 1:51:01 | 1:51:09
When you start off in sport, you
never know where it could take you. | 1:51:17 | 1:51:21
For many, it doesn't take them far.
For a few, it takes them to the very | 1:51:21 | 1:51:27
top. The zenith. I was lucky, I had
God-given talent and I applied | 1:51:27 | 1:51:34
myself and reached that peak. In
1996, at my home Olympics, I became | 1:51:34 | 1:51:40
the focus from the one expected to
win. The one who had to win. So I | 1:51:40 | 1:51:47
ran fast and I won. Pressure, it's
only a word. But you have to deal | 1:51:47 | 1:51:56
with it. At the 2012 London Olympics
the same pressure I experienced in | 1:51:56 | 1:52:03
1996 was put on one particular
athlete, and so she ran, she jumped | 1:52:03 | 1:52:09
and she threw. And she won. And her
smile, her golden smile, lit up the | 1:52:09 | 1:52:19
whole world. As I say, when you
start off in sport you just never | 1:52:19 | 1:52:25
know where it can take you. Around
20 years ago the city built on seven | 1:52:25 | 1:52:33
hills, one girl tentatively started
her climb. If some youngster from | 1:52:33 | 1:52:37
Sheffield can achieve what she is
achieved, I think anybody can. She | 1:52:37 | 1:52:43
was only about nine, ten, something
came up Don Valley for kids to get | 1:52:43 | 1:52:49
involved in sport. She won. I think
it was a pair of trainers she won, | 1:52:49 | 1:52:53
you could see she got a taste for
it. When we first started going out | 1:52:53 | 1:52:56
I used to get text messages from my
mum going Jess is on the back of the | 1:52:56 | 1:53:00
Sheffield Star, she's won something,
I was like, didn't know she was | 1:53:00 | 1:53:03
competing. Quietly, confidently, a
steely start was being forged. | 1:53:03 | 1:53:09
Bronze for young Jessica Ennis-Hill
is the we couldn't imagine her | 1:53:09 | 1:53:13
winning anything bigger than that at
that point. Roll on 2012. Still she | 1:53:13 | 1:53:19
continued upwards. Before long she
was champion of the world. A winning | 1:53:19 | 1:53:24
smile, no heirs, no graces, one of
us. Your typical girl next door. She | 1:53:24 | 1:53:29
didn't change in any way. Cheated
out of a second title, her climb | 1:53:29 | 1:53:34
continued. Jess's focus soon turn to
the London Olympics, could she | 1:53:34 | 1:53:39
handle the pressure? She was the
only person on the British team | 1:53:39 | 1:53:43
where a silver medal would have been
a loss. You are the face of the | 1:53:43 | 1:53:46
games, you have to deliver. The
biggest year of all will be reserved | 1:53:46 | 1:53:51
for this lady... -- biggest cheer.
Everybody shouting your daughter's | 1:53:51 | 1:53:56
main permits and goose bumps all the
way down me. The girl next door on | 1:53:56 | 1:54:00
the verge of an Olympic gold. We all
know where we were on super Saturday | 1:54:00 | 1:54:05
everybody on their feet. The pride
of Great Britain... Jessica | 1:54:05 | 1:54:10
Ennis-Hill is the Olympic champion.
Everyone who supported me... I want | 1:54:10 | 1:54:16
to thank everyone here, my family
and... I can't believe this. If you | 1:54:16 | 1:54:23
watch it as a film, the credits, you
would leave the cinema, that's it, | 1:54:23 | 1:54:27
but for her life goes on. She wanted
to do what nobody had ever done | 1:54:27 | 1:54:32
before, return to the heptathlon
after giving birth. And win gold. | 1:54:32 | 1:54:37
The hardest part was making her
athletics workaround Reggie, she's | 1:54:37 | 1:54:41
like, why don't I retire? If she was
going to go for Reggie, she wanted | 1:54:41 | 1:54:47
to win. Jessica Ennis-Hill back on
top of the world. An Olympic silver | 1:54:47 | 1:54:52
medal followed. With past injustices
finally put right and a baby | 1:54:52 | 1:54:55
daughter welcomed to the world, her
climb was finally complete. She is | 1:54:55 | 1:55:01
the best British female track and
field athlete Britain has ever | 1:55:01 | 1:55:04
produced. I'm proud to know young
girls look up to her. If she can do | 1:55:04 | 1:55:08
it, other people can have those
aspirations. I'm so incredibly proud | 1:55:08 | 1:55:12
of Jess. You know... When she won,
we won with her. She is our Dame | 1:55:12 | 1:55:25
Jessica Ennis-Hill. APPLAUSE

I think they like you, Jess. Thank | 1:56:54 | 1:57:01
you, Rebecca Ferguson, as well, for
that wonderful performance. Isn't it | 1:57:01 | 1:57:05
fantastic to see so many great
British athletes out there on the | 1:57:05 | 1:57:08
stage? All we need is your award.
Jess is one of only 12 British women | 1:57:08 | 1:57:12
in history to take a track and field
Olympic or World Championship gold, | 1:57:12 | 1:57:15

APPLAUSE | 1:57:46 | 1:57:48
I'm sure you'd like to say a few
words, if you want to pop that over | 1:57:51 | 1:57:55
there, Jess, thank you so much, Dame
Mary. Oh my gosh I'm completely | 1:57:55 | 1:58:02
overwhelmed, to be steadier firstly
with these amazing women if inspired | 1:58:02 | 1:58:05
me through my career. And just in
this room full of so many legends, | 1:58:05 | 1:58:10
it's unbelievable. When I first
stepped onto the track, it was by | 1:58:10 | 1:58:16
chance, really, my parents took me
down to just burn off some energy | 1:58:16 | 1:58:20
and my mum joked about it being
cheap childcare. And from that point | 1:58:20 | 1:58:25
on I just fell in love with the
sport. I could never imagine I would | 1:58:25 | 1:58:31
have the years I've had, the career
I'd had. More than anything, I just | 1:58:31 | 1:58:35
feel incredibly proud of the career
I've had and really fortunate to | 1:58:35 | 1:58:39
have had an amazing team around me.
I coach, Toni Minichiello, and the | 1:58:39 | 1:58:45
team who have worked so many hours,
making sure I was in the best shape | 1:58:45 | 1:58:50
I could possibly be at those key
moments, like Michael said, the home | 1:58:50 | 1:58:53
Olympics. They come individually, as
technicians, are incredible, but as | 1:58:53 | 1:58:59
a collective team they have been the
best team I could ever have imagined | 1:58:59 | 1:59:02
having. This is to them as well, I
need to thank them. My family have | 1:59:02 | 1:59:08
been there with me every step of the
way. They supported me, taking me | 1:59:08 | 1:59:12
down to training sessions.
Competitions. Not very glamorous | 1:59:12 | 1:59:17
locations. They watched me one,
throw, jump, not very far in the | 1:59:17 | 1:59:21
early days. Then a massive thank you
to my husband, Andy. We've been | 1:59:21 | 1:59:29
together 14 years now, married for
four. He's been incredible, | 1:59:29 | 1:59:32
supported me the whole way. I've
just had a baby, that's why I'm | 1:59:32 | 1:59:36
emotional. He'd supported me. We've
been on this journey together. It's | 1:59:36 | 1:59:43
amazing now to be stood up here, you
know, as both looking back from the | 1:59:43 | 1:59:47
other side at the journey we've had
together. Now we've had two | 1:59:47 | 1:59:52
children, Reggie and Olivia. I
couldn't be happier, I'm so proud. | 1:59:52 | 1:59:57
Thank you to the BBC for this
incredible award. And thank you to | 1:59:57 | 2:00:01
everyone who has supported me for
all those years. I'm just eternally | 2:00:01 | 2:00:04
grateful, thank you. Ladies and
gentlemen our golden girl of 2017, | 2:00:04 | 2:00:11
the lifetime achievement winner,
Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill. | 2:00:11 | 2:00:14
Oh my word, an emotional night, as
you may have seen voting for the | 2:00:18 | 2:00:24
2070 BBC Sports Personality of the
Year now closed. -- 2017. Thank you | 2:00:24 | 2:00:29
to those who have voted but don't

time, we'll announce the winner
around 9pm. Plenty more still to | 2:00:32 | 2:00:35
come. | 2:00:35 | 2:00:37 | |
Cricket has been a busy year for
England. They are in the middle of | 2:00:39 | 2:00:43
an Ashes Series. It ain't going
well. But 2017 hasn't all been a | 2:00:43 | 2:00:47
struggle. There's been
record-breaking performances and big | 2:00:47 | 2:00:50
series wins. So to give us his spin
on the last 12 months, it is a | 2:00:50 | 2:00:55
pleasure to hear from the
melliflouousB Henry Blofeld. | 2:00:55 | 2:01:07
There was so much more to this
cricketing year. First the | 2:01:07 | 2:01:12
champion's trophy on home soil,
where Pakistan would foil the hosts | 2:01:12 | 2:01:15
and then their great rivals, India.
That's it for Pakistan! It is. | 2:01:15 | 2:01:23
Pakistan have proved everybody
wrong. In the test, the reign of | 2:01:23 | 2:01:29
Root started in some style. There he
goes, 150 for Joe Root. The new | 2:01:29 | 2:01:36
captain upstaged only by the
magnificent Mooen, the hat-trick | 2:01:36 | 2:01:41
hero.
He's taken a hat-trick! The series | 2:01:41 | 2:01:46
was won 3-1.
The West Indies visited next and | 2:01:46 | 2:01:51
showed spirit to force a decider.
But an England victory at Lord's | 2:01:51 | 2:01:56
came with a milestone for their
greatest ever bowler. Anderson... | 2:01:56 | 2:02:02
That's number 5 00! A fitting moment
for me to hang up the mic. I must | 2:02:02 | 2:02:10
try and not fall over when I hand
over to the next commentator who | 2:02:10 | 2:02:20
will be Ed Smith. How lovely. What
of the Ashes? Australia struck first | 2:02:20 | 2:02:28
at Brisbane, thanks to their
captain. His 100. And an England | 2:02:28 | 2:02:32
collapse. Everything going
Australia's way. England are | 2:02:32 | 2:02:36
collapsing. In Adelaide, the same
sinking feeling. Under the lights | 2:02:36 | 2:02:42
they showed some fight.
. They headed to Perth, down by two. | 2:02:42 | 2:02:53
Good luck England, my dear old
things. Thanks to Blowers. | 2:02:53 | 2:03:07
132-4. 127 runs behind Australia.
There's always hope. Let's stay | 2:03:09 | 2:03:15
global for the Overseas Sports
Personality of the year. A short | 2:03:15 | 2:03:18
list of six was short listed by a
panel of experts. It was up to you | 2:03:18 | 2:03:25
to vote via the BBC Sports website.
You choose from Tom Brady, Tatyana | 2:03:25 | 2:03:36
McFadden, Michael van Gerwyn, Sally
Pearson, record-breaking Wimbledon | 2:03:36 | 2:03:41
champion, Roger Federer and
five-time World Championship swimmer | 2:03:41 | 2:03:47
Katie Ledecky.
As for the winner, well, he's | 2:03:47 | 2:03:51
fantastic. | 2:03:51 | 2:03:54
MUSIC | 2:04:16 | 2:04:23 | |
THE COMMENTATOR: What a player! What
a champion here at Wimbledon. The | 2:04:24 | 2:04:30
first man to win eight
championships. | 2:04:30 | 2:04:35
Another trophy for Roger. He never
gets fed up of winning. A record | 2:04:35 | 2:04:39
fourth overseas award now. It takes
a while to go in that, one. He'll | 2:04:39 | 2:04:44
have it under the tree by Christmas.
The gongs come thick and fast, the | 2:04:44 | 2:04:49
next for Coach of the Year.
To present it Maro Itoje and the | 2:04:49 | 2:05:01
evergreen dynamic duo, Jayne
Torville and Christopher Dean. | 2:05:01 | 2:05:06
APPLAUSE | 2:05:07 | 2:05:09
Great to see you here. I said back
stage an unlikely but brilliant | 2:05:16 | 2:05:22
trio. Let's look at the contenders. | 2:05:22 | 2:05:28
Some great coaches, but Jayne, will
you do us the honours. The coaches | 2:05:58 | 2:06:03
of the year are Stephen | 2:06:03 | 2:06:16
Mcguire and Christian Malcolm... | 2:06:18 | 2:06:19
Congratulations. What a night that
was. What a victory. Who wants to | 2:06:35 | 2:06:39
say a few words. I know it is
intimidating. It is fine! Sorry. | 2:06:39 | 2:06:48
Tell us exactly what it meant to
you, that night to win in that | 2:06:48 | 2:06:51
stadium? Do you know, it was one of
those things that sort of the three | 2:06:51 | 2:06:56
years we have been working together
that we have been really trying to | 2:06:56 | 2:06:59
put it all together and it came
together that night. Amazing - I was | 2:06:59 | 2:07:05
afraid to look at the screen. I know
Christian was in the stadium, | 2:07:05 | 2:07:10
similar. The Guy's done an
impressive job. Recognition to all | 2:07:10 | 2:07:16
their coaches. We are lucky, we get
the cream on the cake here. They | 2:07:16 | 2:07:21
have done the work. Long may that
success continue. Please give it up | 2:07:21 | 2:07:29
for the coaches of the year... | 2:07:29 | 2:07:33
APPLAUSE | 2:07:35 | 2:07:38
The oldest Cup competition in the
world... | 2:07:48 | 2:07:54

my steps for the day! Well done. Our
penultimate award now, it is for | 2:08:58 | 2:09:04
Team of the Year. To present it we
will turn the Airblue. Please | 2:09:04 | 2:09:13
welcome Everton fan Tony Bellow and
big Sam Allardyce. | 2:09:13 | 2:09:21
APPLAUSE | 2:09:36 | 2:09:38
Good evening. Before you open the
envelope, let's see who was in the | 2:09:40 | 2:09:46
running. | 2:09:46 | 2:09:47
Oh, the party can begin now!
What a way to win the Six Nations! | 2:09:55 | 2:10:04
Mercedes world champions. England
win the World Cup. Chelsea... | 2:10:04 | 2:10:11
Champions of the land. England -
World Cup winners. | 2:10:11 | 2:10:17
A high-quality field. Sam, could you
please tell us who the winner is? | 2:10:19 | 2:10:25
The Team of the Year for 2017 is the
England's women cricket team. | 2:10:25 | 2:10:36
APPLAUSE | 2:10:38 | 2:10:48
Many of the team are actually out in
Australia, playing in the big bash. | 2:11:02 | 2:11:07
I know you would like to say a few
words. It is great to see so many of | 2:11:07 | 2:11:11
you here tonight. We would like to
thank you for the award. It's been a | 2:11:11 | 2:11:16
fantastic year for women's cricket,
women's sport in general. We've | 2:11:16 | 2:11:20
obviously been in the World Cup
final. Lord's was a fantastic day | 2:11:20 | 2:11:23
for us. We would like to thank
everybody who supported us | 2:11:23 | 2:11:27
throughout the year. Hopefully we
have gone places to inspire women's | 2:11:27 | 2:11:30
cricket and beyond. You most
certainly have. The 2017 Team of the | 2:11:30 | 2:11:38
Year - England's women's cricket
team. | 2:11:38 | 2:11:43 | |
Following us here on BBC One is the
Apprentice final. We have got the | 2:11:45 | 2:11:52
business of announcing the BBC
Sports personality for 2017. Now | 2:11:52 | 2:11:55
though, we will reflect a little and
celebrate a champion and legend we | 2:11:55 | 2:11:59
are all going to miss very much. | 2:11:59 | 2:12:03
Usain Bolt... The greatest ever.
Usain Bolt! | 2:12:08 | 2:12:16
That is superb. It is a new world
record. He's done it again! | 2:12:16 | 2:12:29
9. 58... The champion becomes a
legend! | 2:12:29 | 2:12:37
Everyone knows the name. Everybody
knows the name of the fastest man in | 2:12:37 | 2:12:40
the world.
All those are for him. Unbeatable, | 2:12:40 | 2:12:49
our surpassable. He saved his
reputation. He may have even saved | 2:12:49 | 2:12:53
his sport. History, history,
history, history... | 2:12:53 | 2:13:01
I don't think we have seen the last
of him. He's incredible. Tonight we | 2:13:02 | 2:13:07
have celebrated the achievements of
those who have elevated them to the | 2:13:07 | 2:13:11
pinnacle of performance. We have
lost many loved ones from our | 2:13:11 | 2:13:14
sporting family. Now in the company
of one of Britain's brightest and | 2:13:14 | 2:13:21
best musicians, Rag'n'Bone Man, it
is time to pay tribute to those with | 2:13:21 | 2:13:27
their ability and skill - we will
never forget them. | 2:13:27 | 2:13:33
# Said I loved you without
hesitation | 2:13:45 | 2:13:53
# So easy for you to
break my foolish heart | 2:13:53 | 2:14:03
# Now I wonder
if you ever speak my name | 2:14:05 | 2:14:15

fall down at your feet | 2:15:12 | 2:15:16
# In the half life reigns
the hand to my defeat | 2:15:16 | 2:15:26

APPLAUSE
Thank you so much to Rag'n'Bone Man | 2:17:45 | 2:17:50
for that wonderful, moving
performance so great to have you | 2:17:50 | 2:17:53
with us tonight. And thank you to
the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and | 2:17:53 | 2:17:58
Michael England, the musical
director, for the live music | 2:17:58 | 2:18:00
tonight. It's time to announce the
2070 BBC Sports Personality of the | 2:18:00 | 2:18:05
Year. From this class of 12
contenders, a career highlight | 2:18:05 | 2:18:08
awaits. | 2:18:08 | 2:18:12
The tension is mounting and so to
present the main award we are | 2:18:43 | 2:18:46
honoured to be joined on stage by a
legend of Liverpool football club. | 2:18:46 | 2:18:50
He won the lot as a player and as
manager won three league titles | 2:18:50 | 2:18:56
before helping the Hillsborough
victim families for their fight for | 2:18:56 | 2:19:01
justice, he is known as King Kenny
for a good reason. Ladies and | 2:19:01 | 2:19:04
gentlemen, Kenny Dalglish! | 2:19:04 | 2:19:09
APPLAUSE | 2:19:17 | 2:19:22

It's great to see you, Kenny. | 2:19:50 | 2:19:55
Brilliant to have him here, all
votes have been counted and | 2:19:55 | 2:19:58
independently verified. Full details
of the vote will appear later on the | 2:19:58 | 2:20:02
BBC sport website. Standing by we
have Mo Farah and Johanna Konta in | 2:20:02 | 2:20:07
London, Chris Froome in Majorca and
Lewis Hamilton in Los Angeles. | 2:20:07 | 2:20:11
Alongside friends and
representatives who are ready to | 2:20:11 | 2:20:14
present an award if needed. The
results, Kenny, please tell us who | 2:20:14 | 2:20:17
is in third place. In third place is
Jonnie Peacock. APPLAUSE | 2:20:17 | 2:20:29
CHEERING
APPLAUSE | 2:20:35 | 2:20:41
Fantastic. | 2:20:41 | 2:20:42
Brilliant, well done, Johnny. Kenny,
could you reveal who the run-up is? | 2:20:54 | 2:20:58
The runner-up for 2017 is Jonathan
Rea! APPLAUSE | 2:21:02 | 2:21:06

CHEERING | 2:21:27 | 2:21:37
And Kenny, can you please reveal the
2017 BBC Sports Personality of the | 2:21:38 | 2:21:44
Year? The 2017 BBC Sports
Personality of the Year is Mo Farah. | 2:21:44 | 2:21:52
APPLAUSE
CHEERING | 2:21:52 | 2:22:02
Mo, I hope you can hear us. Rhianna
is there with a trophy that she can | 2:22:21 | 2:22:25
present. Please don't tell me... Is
gone to bed? | 2:22:25 | 2:22:32
Oh no! I think that just about sums
up Mo's evening, doesn't it, really? | 2:22:34 | 2:22:43
I'm sure that is Hussein pulling the
plug out somewhere. It was the most | 2:22:43 | 2:22:47
brilliant non-interview that has
ever happened. Everybody has voted | 2:22:47 | 2:22:51
for a real legend of sport. We hope
we can resurrect the line shortly. | 2:22:51 | 2:22:57
His reaction was brilliant, that was
for sure. There he is, Sir Mo Farah. | 2:22:57 | 2:23:02
Let's have a quick word with Michael
Johnson because Michael, you have | 2:23:02 | 2:23:06
been there almost every step of the
way, every major championship we | 2:23:06 | 2:23:10
have been to, to watch Mo Farah, to
talk about his achievements. Put it | 2:23:10 | 2:23:14
into context what he's done on the
global stage. I was hoping I | 2:23:14 | 2:23:18
wouldn't have to step in! I mean Mo
has been amazing over the years. | 2:23:18 | 2:23:22
This year in particular, it was the
year he came into a home | 2:23:22 | 2:23:28
Championships, his last race on the
track, everyone knew this would be | 2:23:28 | 2:23:31
his last. And still delivered. Think
about over the years, as he has | 2:23:31 | 2:23:37
dominated, the canyons, Ethiopians,
have teamed up against him. He's out | 2:23:37 | 2:23:41
there by himself, he's always got
tactics right. I looked at distance | 2:23:41 | 2:23:46
running and think, you go out there
and run. But the tactics are | 2:23:46 | 2:23:50
amazing. He's always got it right.
We've seen him almost fall down a | 2:23:50 | 2:23:54
couple of times. Is there still
fighting. It's been an amazing | 2:23:54 | 2:24:00
season for him and an amazing
career. Well deserved. He was | 2:24:00 | 2:24:05
clearly surprised tonight. He's
there at the Sir Mo Farah track in | 2:24:05 | 2:24:09
west London and when he heard Kenny
Dalglish announce his name, genuine | 2:24:09 | 2:24:12
shock on his face. Look at the
reaction. He couldn't believe he had | 2:24:12 | 2:24:16
done it. It is a wonderful,
wonderful result, many | 2:24:16 | 2:24:22
congratulations to Mo Farah, we'll
have to catch up with him, you'll | 2:24:22 | 2:24:24
hear from him on BBC News on the BBC
website as well, many apologise for | 2:24:24 | 2:24:28
the loss of link at the crucial
time. As Gaby said, that is the way | 2:24:28 | 2:24:33
it happened. We can't even blame
Majorca or Los Angeles, its London! | 2:24:33 | 2:24:39
That is the way live television
goes, isn't it? Ladies and | 2:24:39 | 2:24:44
gentlemen, the 2017 BBC Sports
Personality of the Year is Mo Farah! | 2:24:44 | 2:24:49
APPLAUSE
Congratulations to all our winners, | 2:24:49 | 2:24:56
nominees, all sports stars. You've
made this such an incredible year. | 2:24:56 | 2:24:59
Thank you to all of you who
organised them behind the scenes and | 2:24:59 | 2:25:02
good luck to all | 2:25:02 | 2:25:03
From all of us here, thank you,
Liverpool, and thank you for | 2:25:04 | 2:25:08
watching at home. Good night and
have a very Merry Christmas. Good | 2:25:08 | 2:25:11
night. | 2:25:11 | 2:25:12 |
