Scotland have won the gold medal in the men's pairs.

:00:58.:01:00.

What a wonderful gold medal for Dan Greaves of England.

:01:01.:01:03.

Now he has the Commonwealth gold medal.

:01:04.:01:06.

The gold medal goes to Nick Matthew is.

:01:07.:01:09.

Jazz Carlin from Swansea cakes Wales to a gold medal.

:01:10.:01:13.

She is stretching away, and Libby Clegg gets a gold medal.

:01:14.:01:18.

Goodness me, a wonderful swim, Sophie Taylor wins a gold medal.

:01:19.:01:25.

So, we had the first medals in the athletics at Hampden Park yesterday.

:01:26.:01:28.

And, on day six of the Commonwealth Games, we have another

:01:29.:01:31.

Today, we'll see some of the stars of 2012 compete here in Glasgow.

:01:32.:01:41.

The great Kenyan David Rudisha lit up the London Games,

:01:42.:01:44.

as he took the 800 metres title, and broke the world record.

:01:45.:01:47.

We'll see him in action for the first time here later on.

:01:48.:01:51.

Another Olympic champion due up today.

:01:52.:01:54.

England's Greg Rutherford, back on form after a miserable time

:01:55.:01:57.

A 2012 Paralympic star to look out for too.

:01:58.:02:04.

David Weir is sure to get a great reception.

:02:05.:02:13.

As is the poster girl of the Glasgow Games, Scotland's Eilidh

:02:14.:02:16.

Child will be looking to qualify in style in the 400m hurdles.

:02:17.:02:27.

Here are those all-important timings for the next few hours.

:02:28.:02:32.

In a moment, we'll be looking back on some of

:02:33.:02:35.

yesterday's terrific performances with medallists Dan Greaves,

:02:36.:02:37.

Then, at 9.30, it'll be time for some live sport,

:02:38.:02:40.

as the England netball team look to bounce back from that heart-breaking

:02:41.:02:43.

They need to win their last two matches to reach

:02:44.:02:47.

the semi-finals, and play Trinidad and Tobago this morning.

:02:48.:02:49.

After that, we're off to Hampden Park for a packed morning

:02:50.:02:52.

Greg Rutherford and Chris Tomlinson will be hoping to qualify with ease

:02:53.:02:55.

And we'll see both sets of multi-eventers in action.

:02:56.:03:01.

The decathlon reaches its conclusion, whilst

:03:02.:03:02.

Then, in the para-sport, Shelley Woods in the 1500 metres T54.

:03:03.:03:13.

And David Weir in the men's event just before midday.

:03:14.:03:15.

it's David Rudisha, in the men's 800 metres first round.

:03:16.:03:25.

And there's plenty of other action already underway here at the Games.

:03:26.:03:33.

Over on BBC Three this morning, you can see England's men play

:03:34.:03:36.

Both teams are unbeaten so far in the group stages.

:03:37.:03:45.

And, throughout the day, you can watch every sport live

:03:46.:03:48.

on the BBC Sport website, just go to bbc.co.uk/glasgow2014

:03:49.:03:50.

And all that works on your mobile device as well, so, if you're out

:03:51.:03:58.

and about or even at work, you shouldn't have to miss a thing.

:03:59.:04:05.

Let's start with athletics, though, which got off to a great start

:04:06.:04:08.

yesterday, with huge crowds at Hampden Park, inspiring the athletes

:04:09.:04:10.

That was certainly the case late in the evening,

:04:11.:04:15.

when both the women's and men's 100m finals produced some stunning runs.

:04:16.:04:31.

COMMENTATOR: Hampden Park falls silent. The 100m final.

:04:32.:04:42.

Away first time, Campbell-Brown. A good start by blessing Blessing

:04:43.:04:49.

Okagbare. Here comes the tall Nigerian, storming to the line and a

:04:50.:04:55.

gold medal. Campbell-Brown is second. What a run!

:04:56.:05:04.

A new season's best. My work has been based on the Commonwealth

:05:05.:05:11.

Games, I am just happy. The men's 100m final.

:05:12.:05:19.

Jeb Nikos away. And here he comes. Miguel Angel Jiminez has gone by Tim

:05:20.:05:34.

-- Adam Gemili. The gold goes to Jamaica once more. Ten sat the

:05:35.:05:35.

winning time. Congratulations to both of you, what

:05:36.:05:55.

does it mean to you? It is my first visual medal in a Championships.

:05:56.:06:00.

A big breakthrough for you are big things are predicted a view, this is

:06:01.:06:04.

just the start. Just the start of the individual

:06:05.:06:08.

medal. Congratulations, you have done

:06:09.:06:11.

Jamaica proud. Let us bring in Adam. I can see the

:06:12.:06:16.

reaction, when that result came up on the board, describe it for me.

:06:17.:06:25.

My first senior medal. Oh, I speak less -- speechless. There was so

:06:26.:06:29.

much preparation which goes into running ten seconds. I have a great

:06:30.:06:33.

team behind me. They know who they are watching. I can't believe it. My

:06:34.:06:41.

first time representing England. I am so happy. That perception you got

:06:42.:06:45.

at the start must have given you goose bumps before the race. And to

:06:46.:06:49.

clinch a medal. It was unbelievable. -- that

:06:50.:06:55.

reception. Something I will never forget my

:06:56.:07:00.

life. The reception was brilliant. It is not about time but position,

:07:01.:07:04.

and I have done it, I am over the moon.

:07:05.:07:10.

As you say, it is a medal that counts, it is what you can build

:07:11.:07:17.

on. Exactly. The times will come, hopefully, a decent time, with the

:07:18.:07:24.

guys looking after me. Medals are what count. This is a stepping stone

:07:25.:07:28.

for the World Championships, the Europeans in a couple of weeks, and

:07:29.:07:34.

eventually we are. Thank you, I have got so many messages, thanked you

:07:35.:07:38.

for all of the support, I can't thank you enough.

:07:39.:07:46.

The first medals were won in the para discus.

:07:47.:07:52.

The first ones were won in the men's para discus by these two

:07:53.:07:55.

gentlemen, Dan Greaves who won gold, and Aled Davies who got the silver.

:07:56.:07:58.

the men's para discus by these two And eventful day. At that moment in

:07:59.:08:05.

there, when you through the discus, did you know how well you have done?

:08:06.:08:12.

Yes, I first two did not go to plan but my third, I got hold of and you

:08:13.:08:17.

can always tell from your fingers, there is a tingling sensation when

:08:18.:08:21.

it rips through your fingers. I knew I had sent it, and I had fight to

:08:22.:08:26.

stay in the circle. Pretty much the same feeling I get in training all

:08:27.:08:28.

the time. Let us show it to everyone again.

:08:29.:08:38.

The minute it left your hand, you had a good feeling?

:08:39.:08:41.

I was struggling to pull through my shoulder blades and get the

:08:42.:08:45.

elevation right in the first two. On that one, yes, the elevation comes

:08:46.:08:53.

up. And I managed to keep it flat and it took off. Unfortunately, it

:08:54.:08:59.

bounced just in front of the 16th line. I couldn't really tell.

:09:00.:09:01.

Normally they have markers. -- 60. And lead, North Road came a little

:09:02.:09:18.

bit later on, how was it for you to watch him? -- Aled.

:09:19.:09:27.

What did you think when you saw him put in a throwback that one? He is

:09:28.:09:33.

an incredible athlete, at the best of his career. He can go 63 metres.

:09:34.:09:41.

So I knew it would take something special to beat him. All I thought I

:09:42.:09:46.

would have to do is to go in there and deliver my best performance

:09:47.:09:47.

possible. It didn't quite go to plan, if you

:09:48.:09:56.

things I could have improved on. It was a very emotional day. Still good

:09:57.:10:04.

enough for the silver medal. A fantastic achievement at the

:10:05.:10:09.

Commonwealth Games. Definitely. Looking back now, my first

:10:10.:10:12.

Commonwealth Games. I still have a lot of learning to do. Hopefully, my

:10:13.:10:15.

career will as successful. You have many more Games ahead of

:10:16.:10:28.

you, I am sure. I -- my first senior international

:10:29.:10:36.

was 2011. And I took a medal in my first Games, so I hope I can follow

:10:37.:10:41.

in his footsteps and keep para-sport going in the discus.

:10:42.:10:48.

Your first Paralympics was in Sydney 2000.

:10:49.:10:51.

Not even I can remember that far back! I had my 18th birthday on the

:10:52.:10:59.

aeroplane on the way to Sydney. They took me on a whim really for

:11:00.:11:02.

experience and I came up with a silver medal.

:11:03.:11:08.

You have won a medal every single Paralympics since? Yes, every

:11:09.:11:15.

Paralympics, wild Championships, Europeans, for the last 14 years, I

:11:16.:11:20.

thank my lucky stars. It is down to my team, my coach, my parents. We

:11:21.:11:26.

have a great system and it works. We will keep going on until 2017 which

:11:27.:11:32.

is when I will be hanging up my shoes.

:11:33.:11:34.

So you're not done. Speaking of support, Hampden Park

:11:35.:11:40.

looked fantastic last night. What was it like to be competing, but

:11:41.:11:44.

that crowd around you? Incredible. 80,000 in London, but

:11:45.:11:49.

the noise from those 40,000 fans yesterday, it makes me tingle right

:11:50.:11:54.

the noise from those 40,000 fans now. That is what elevates you to a

:11:55.:11:57.

great performance. now. That is what elevates you to a

:11:58.:12:03.

unbelievable, I want to thank them for making it special. The Hampden

:12:04.:12:12.

Park raw. Yes, we felt like we were Scottish! They got behind everyone

:12:13.:12:21.

What is it like for you to compete -- roar.

:12:22.:12:29.

What is it like for you to compete in an integrated event? It is

:12:30.:12:33.

striking for viewers certainly, one of the striking thing Tour about the

:12:34.:12:37.

Commonwealth Games. It is really good --

:12:38.:12:50.

things. We are in separate classes. So it is

:12:51.:12:56.

great to give everyone this opportunity. The Nigerian

:12:57.:12:57.

great to give everyone this came third was phenomenal.

:12:58.:12:59.

great to give everyone this one leg. He put his cracked down,

:13:00.:13:04.

great to give everyone this and he threw 38 metres. He got a

:13:05.:13:10.

standing ovation, the biggest cheer of the day. Such an inspiration.

:13:11.:13:14.

That is what we have in Paralympics. To be integrated, we

:13:15.:13:19.

are all athletes fighting for medals. You get some inspiration

:13:20.:13:22.

like that. I had lots of people, to medals. You get some inspiration

:13:23.:13:23.

me, thanking me. Hopefully they will medals. You get some inspiration

:13:24.:13:31.

go home well into sport. What happens next for you? You have

:13:32.:13:38.

a solve a medal this time, you got a gold medal at London 2012. Your next

:13:39.:13:42.

chappie ships is not far away. We both have the European

:13:43.:13:50.

Championships ten days away. Then, of course, we have our own events in

:13:51.:13:53.

Rio. We both want to keep dominating of course, we have our own events in

:13:54.:13:57.

the world of throwing as much as we can. And keep pushing the barriers.

:13:58.:14:03.

I have no doubt you will carry on, having seen you in action in

:14:04.:14:09.

Glasgow. Good luck for the future. Thanks you for coming in this

:14:10.:14:16.

morning. Greg Rutherford will be in action

:14:17.:14:23.

today. We saw him become Olympic champion in London. Since then, he

:14:24.:14:28.

has struggled with injury, but is hoping his form will have returned

:14:29.:14:35.

at the right time. Ultimately, no matter what happens,

:14:36.:14:41.

nothing will come close to super Saturday. Everything went right. I

:14:42.:14:49.

experienced the greatest moment of my life. Jess had just gone out and

:14:50.:14:56.

won. I remember thinking, this is absolutely incredible. I had this

:14:57.:15:02.

feeling of wanting a little bit of that reaction the crowd gave. I was

:15:03.:15:08.

sitting in a good position, my second round attempt had put me into

:15:09.:15:13.

first place. Ultimately, as soon as I started running down the runway,

:15:14.:15:17.

muscle memory takes over, everything felt good. I felt that lift from

:15:18.:15:23.

what I had just seen, and the crowd going mad. As soon as I hit and took

:15:24.:15:29.

off, I knew it was pretty good. It just happened, the third best

:15:30.:15:34.

jump of my career. One that would take the on to become Olympic

:15:35.:15:35.

champion. An amazing moment. I knew they were in the stadium, but

:15:36.:15:51.

I didn't know where. That was my first reaction, I just wanted to see

:15:52.:15:56.

them, then finally I heard them. Obviously just jumped in and gave

:15:57.:16:12.

them a bigger. -- a big hug. You have to deal with the scrutiny from

:16:13.:16:16.

the media, especially when you have done well, everyone expects you to

:16:17.:16:20.

do it every time, and there is only Usain Bolt - apart from that, not

:16:21.:16:25.

many get it right every single time. When it goes slightly wrong, you get

:16:26.:16:29.

a bit more stick, and that is something you have to deal with and

:16:30.:16:33.

understand, and also your private life and everything else is

:16:34.:16:36.

scrutinised as well. So these are things that I don't think you can

:16:37.:16:42.

prepare for. Ultimately, if I hadn't gone to the World Championships in

:16:43.:16:45.

2013, I would have been wondering, what if? The story of my life in

:16:46.:16:50.

injuries, it strikes at precisely the wrong time, and everyone around

:16:51.:16:54.

you is expecting from you, they expect you to do well. With two out

:16:55.:16:58.

of three hamstrings working, it doesn't actually happen! After the

:16:59.:17:03.

injury last year and seeing how my body reacted in the World

:17:04.:17:06.

Championships, I wasn't sure whether or not I'd be able to get back to

:17:07.:17:09.

the level that I had been previously. You had a really good

:17:10.:17:16.

winter season, and then to go and set a British record, you must be

:17:17.:17:20.

pretty chuffed with that. Absolutely, yeah, over the moon. I

:17:21.:17:26.

went really well at a competition indoors, I was chuffed to bits with

:17:27.:17:30.

it. I only finished third, but I beat the people I needed to beat. I

:17:31.:17:36.

jumped a PB indoors, and I thought, there is probably more, but I just

:17:37.:17:40.

need to get away and get some training done. It is a great way to

:17:41.:17:44.

start the season, exactly how my season started in 2012, and that

:17:45.:17:50.

went on to be a pretty good year. Are significant to you the

:17:51.:17:53.

Commonwealth Games? It is the biggest focus of 2014, it is what

:17:54.:17:57.

the focus has been since I came back from the injury in 2013, purely

:17:58.:18:04.

going out in Glasgow and becoming Commonwealth champion. Everything I

:18:05.:18:05.

am doing is geared towards winning. Well, if these Games have inspired

:18:06.:18:20.

you, you can get all the details you need about getting involved in local

:18:21.:18:24.

athletics clubs or any of the 17 sports at the Games, by going to the

:18:25.:18:26.

BBC website. Well, speaking of inspiring and

:18:27.:18:43.

performances, one of them at the Games came courtesy of Libby Clegg,

:18:44.:18:46.

who got one of the loudest roars of the Games last night in the final of

:18:47.:18:56.

the T11/12 100m, and she is here, having won that gold medal

:18:57.:19:02.

yesterday. It has not really hit me yet, it has not signed in. As the

:19:03.:19:08.

day goes on, I think it will settle. But no, absolutely incredible. Not

:19:09.:19:13.

only did you win, but he did it in such style, and incredible race to

:19:14.:19:18.

watch. You and your guide runner just shot out of the blocks, and he

:19:19.:19:22.

won by an incredible margin. I know, well, we sort of had a race plan,

:19:23.:19:29.

and we executed it perfectly. The bus of that was obviously winning a

:19:30.:19:33.

gold medal and running a season's best. We are seeing you here now,

:19:34.:19:39.

you are powering ahead, the distance between you and your competitors is

:19:40.:19:43.

incredible, did you sort of gauge how far edge you work? Did you have

:19:44.:19:50.

any idea? I didn't know how far ahead we were. I knew we were in the

:19:51.:19:54.

lead at about 60, but I wasn't sure, it ended up all glory into one

:19:55.:20:02.

moment. -- all blurring. How can you tell you are in the lead? Because

:20:03.:20:06.

your vision is very severely impaired, you are registered blind.

:20:07.:20:10.

It is kind of a feeling, but also the way they crowd were roaring and

:20:11.:20:15.

cheering, I could tell I was in the lead as well. Usually you can feel

:20:16.:20:19.

your competitors around you, and I couldn't feel anyone. There was just

:20:20.:20:24.

air all around you, no competitors any near you! No, so the crowd were

:20:25.:20:29.

incredible, really uplifting. It felt like they were carrying you

:20:30.:20:35.

down the track. Fantastic to watch. What is the relationship with your

:20:36.:20:39.

guide? You obviously train together, and when you start

:20:40.:20:44.

training with someone who is your guide, how long does it take before

:20:45.:20:49.

you think, this is the one? I have been running with him for four

:20:50.:20:54.

years, previous to that I was running with his stepdad. We went to

:20:55.:20:59.

the World Championships together, then Lincoln thought it was time to

:21:00.:21:06.

hand over the reins. So he said, I know someone who? Yes, he had a go,

:21:07.:21:13.

we collect and it worked, we have been together ever since. And there

:21:14.:21:22.

is a strap around your wrist, you are running elbow to elbow. It is

:21:23.:21:27.

actually a weightlifting strap that we wrap around our hands to keep us

:21:28.:21:31.

together, and it seems to work for us. We were trying to think of

:21:32.:21:36.

something that wouldn't... Well, the new rules said you couldn't have an

:21:37.:21:40.

elasticated rope, and you have to make your own. We thought, a

:21:41.:21:44.

weightlifting strap, it has just worked. It worked in fantastic style

:21:45.:21:48.

last night. A brilliant win for you, and then afterwards you really felt

:21:49.:21:54.

the love of the crowd, didn't you? We sort you go right around, do a

:21:55.:22:00.

full lap of Hampden Park. That took our long? I think it's talk about 45

:22:01.:22:05.

minutes! We were getting so much support from everyone in the crowd,

:22:06.:22:11.

we wanted to say hello to everyone. I don't know, everyone was giving us

:22:12.:22:18.

high fives, wanting photographs. What does that mean to you? So much

:22:19.:22:22.

of the time you are training in pretty solitary circumstances, and

:22:23.:22:27.

then you get out there at a home Games, you have that kind of result

:22:28.:22:34.

and reaction. Yeah, no, it was so nice to get that reaction.

:22:35.:22:39.

Overwhelming, we never have had so much attention before, but it was

:22:40.:22:43.

incredible, meeting everyone, people saying how proud they were of ours.

:22:44.:22:48.

There was so much support, it was fantastic. Have you slept much? I

:22:49.:22:55.

think I have had about five hours' sleep, but I will survive! You have

:22:56.:23:00.

the golden glow around you for sure! What's next? You have competed in

:23:01.:23:05.

London and here, what does the future hold? The Europeans in a

:23:06.:23:10.

couple of weeks in Swansea, then the World Championships, and then Rio in

:23:11.:23:15.

2016. I have a busy couple of years ahead of me! A packed schedule, good

:23:16.:23:20.

luck with it, so many people will now be following your progress

:23:21.:23:23.

having seen what you can do. Very best of luck. Libby Clegg, thank

:23:24.:23:26.

you. If you are heading out this morning,

:29:17.:29:26.

This is a key match for England's women, hoping to bounce back from

:29:27.:29:31.

the defeat against Australia. Before we see them in action, here is your

:29:32.:29:35.

guide to the game. Netball requires determination in

:29:36.:29:42.

defence, agility in attack, and skilful shooting. Each team

:29:43.:29:49.

comprises seven players playing in a rectangular court with raised

:29:50.:29:54.

goalposts at either end. Each player has a specific position on the team

:29:55.:30:00.

with a baby indicating their role. The position indicates there is

:30:01.:30:05.

movement is limited, and if a player and quotas beyond their designated

:30:06.:30:10.

area, a free pass is awarded to the other team. -- encroaches. Defenders

:30:11.:30:14.

have to stand three feet away from the player with the ball and can

:30:15.:30:17.

only win it back once it has been released. A player with the ball may

:30:18.:30:21.

take no more than one step before passing it, and they must pass or

:30:22.:30:26.

shoot for goal within three seconds of taking possession. Only the goal

:30:27.:30:29.

shooter and goal attack positions may attempt to take shots from

:30:30.:30:34.

inside the shooting circle. Similarly, only the goal defence and

:30:35.:30:38.

goalkeeper may enter the circle in a bid to thwart the attacking side.

:30:39.:30:46.

Let's get over to the SECC, England needing to win their final two games

:30:47.:30:50.

to guarantee qualification for the semifinals.

:30:51.:31:11.

McCollin. Goal attack. Rhonda Davis. Tricia

And goal difference Kemba Duncan. And the coach, Wesley Gomez. And

:31:43.:31:56.

please welcome your umpire. Delivering the match ball is our

:31:57.:31:59.

competition winner from Falkirk! Trinidad and Tobago get as under

:32:00.:32:13.

way, attacking the post to our left hand side, playing in the black

:32:14.:32:21.

strip. An important first phase of possession for Trinidad and Tobago.

:32:22.:32:28.

The Collin gets the chance to open proceedings but cannot find the

:32:29.:32:33.

target. Anita is our resident netball

:32:34.:32:47.

expert. England also struggling to find the opening goal.

:32:48.:32:55.

Corbin sensing she needs to work closer. It is a fast start by

:32:56.:33:01.

England. England starting with Harten, in the

:33:02.:33:08.

shooting circle, as they have done throughout this tournament.

:33:09.:33:15.

Jade Clarke has moved up to wing attack. She hasn't started there

:33:16.:33:22.

before. Sara Bayman in Centre Court starting

:33:23.:33:27.

for the first time. Trinidad and Tobago have the Collin

:33:28.:33:50.

and Cooper in attack. McCollin having a second shot and a second

:33:51.:33:57.

miss. She needs to get her confidence going.

:33:58.:34:01.

Struggling with the height of Geva Mentor. Some strong communication.

:34:02.:34:09.

Struggling with the height of Geva contact call. Giving Daystar

:34:10.:34:13.

possession. Mentor has had a good tournament for

:34:14.:34:20.

England. Joanne Harten ringing that under control.

:34:21.:34:24.

Good pressure by England in the mid-court. Positioned in front of

:34:25.:34:28.

the Trinidad and Tobago players. Daystar Swift gets herself into the

:34:29.:34:36.

mix in the shooting circle. Corbin was unlucky, trying to keep

:34:37.:34:41.

that alive. Trinidad and Tobago on the bench.

:34:42.:34:52.

Contact called against Beckford-Chambers. Oh, lovely work

:34:53.:34:58.

Contact called against from Sara Bayman. In the starting

:34:59.:35:04.

line-up for the first time. Rubber-stamping that start.

:35:05.:35:12.

It is good but so far by Sara Bayman, she read the ball well for

:35:13.:35:23.

the intercept. Top of the circle. Clarke availability good for the

:35:24.:35:35.

pass. -- Clarke's. Corbin opens her account.

:35:36.:35:47.

Joelisa Cooper just trying to work this ball. They need to work on

:35:48.:35:55.

pulling some width through to goal. That is a penalty corner. Penalty

:35:56.:36:03.

over in that far side. Joelisa Cooper. Wasn't expecting

:36:04.:36:10.

that pass. Liverpool was there. And running out of time.

:36:11.:36:17.

Great pressure. Beckford-Chambers winning her 50th cap for England,

:36:18.:36:26.

congratulations to her. Just finding Joanne Harten. A good

:36:27.:36:33.

move forward from Kadeen Corbin. They need some consistency in the

:36:34.:36:37.

shooting. Quality movement but they need to convert the goal.

:36:38.:36:50.

Good defence by England, Sara Bayman, lots of pressure going on

:36:51.:36:58.

through the court. Corbin, finding the target. Inside

:36:59.:37:08.

the opening five minutes. It could have gone in earlier from Corbin,

:37:09.:37:16.

through to Harten. A strong front body position against Daystar Swift.

:37:17.:37:27.

Oh! And Swift and jack, Duncan, sorry, trying to keep the ball

:37:28.:37:29.

alive, and they both collide. Quite a fuse stray passes in the

:37:30.:37:45.

game at the moment. -- few.

:37:46.:37:52.

England have lost the structure. They need to set the triangle around

:37:53.:37:58.

the shooting circle. Great play by Beckford-Chambers. It is difficult

:37:59.:38:01.

for Trinidad and Tobago in that mid-court area.

:38:02.:38:07.

Nice exchange of passes between Damen and Corbin.

:38:08.:38:14.

England now lead. Trinidad yet to find the target.

:38:15.:38:17.

Just pushing up, England. Trying to force the diagonal ball.

:38:18.:38:33.

Sara Bayman, clever play by her. That was a good pass to split the

:38:34.:38:41.

England defence. Joelisa Cooper opens up the Trinidad and Tobago

:38:42.:38:43.

account. Some good vision from Rhonda

:38:44.:38:51.

John-Davis. That was a brilliant take.

:38:52.:38:57.

That is more like it for England. With Kadeen Corbin, a goal line run.

:38:58.:39:05.

They last met in a tri- Nations tournament in South Africa in

:39:06.:39:10.

October last year. England beat the dad and Tobago 56-24 on that

:39:11.:39:22.

occasion. I imagine it will be something

:39:23.:39:28.

similar here today. Certainly, with England leading

:39:29.:39:34.

inside the first seven and a half minutes.

:39:35.:39:38.

They have got the perfect start. Tricia Liverpool, putting pressure

:39:39.:39:48.

along the circle edge. That was unlucky for Jade Clarke.

:39:49.:40:04.

Cooper, John-Davis, high in the court area, this is where Trinidad

:40:05.:40:12.

and Tobago need to make the path to the circle edge.

:40:13.:40:16.

There was no way through for Rhonda John-Davis.

:40:17.:40:30.

A footwork call against Joanne Harten.

:40:31.:40:40.

A quick recover from John-Davis, finds herself down in court. You

:40:41.:40:49.

mentioned the structure for England. They have to try to impose their

:40:50.:40:55.

game onto this match, don't they, England? As do Trinidad. Either

:40:56.:41:01.

side, neither side finding their own game. It is crucial for England,

:41:02.:41:07.

particularly that they set the structure around the circle edge.

:41:08.:41:12.

And perhaps start to see some relationship with Corbin and Harten,

:41:13.:41:16.

some screens, just mixing up the play. McCollin, putting the goal in.

:41:17.:41:24.

She is trying to do a lot out there.

:41:25.:41:35.

England have had four interception is already in this game.

:41:36.:41:43.

-- interceptions. McCollin working the ground.

:41:44.:41:55.

Good work from Beckford-Chambers. A real height difference in that

:41:56.:42:01.

shooting circle. England, much taller.

:42:02.:42:09.

That was lovely work. That was pretty close to offside.

:42:10.:42:45.

It has gone against the goalkeeper, Daystar Swift.

:42:46.:42:51.

Another goal from Corbin. Fans watching on. New Zealand are up

:42:52.:42:58.

against St Lucia in the next game. They will be taking in the first

:42:59.:43:03.

half of the first game on day seven. Then into the pre-match warm up

:43:04.:43:08.

routine and chat. If England and Australia win their

:43:09.:43:25.

opening games, then New Zealand will be playing England in the semifinal.

:43:26.:43:32.

I am sure New Zealand will be interested to see this combination

:43:33.:43:38.

of Clarke and Bayman. Daystar Swift is quick.

:43:39.:43:45.

Tricia Liverpool, too much forward Kadeen Corbin, not fazed there. Some

:43:46.:44:04.

good pressure by England. You can see three over on the line. Sara

:44:05.:44:09.

Bayman is picking up a lot of possession, a lot of deflections.

:44:10.:44:13.

Bayman is picking up a lot of good start to the game by Sara

:44:14.:44:21.

Bayman. That is a good ball through from Guthrie.

:44:22.:44:29.

Bayman. That is a good ball through causing havoc

:44:30.:44:29.

Good work from Bayman. circle.

:44:30.:44:42.

Good work from Bayman. England are getting to the passes.

:44:43.:44:49.

They have a good front position. It gives them a little time, you can

:44:50.:44:56.

see again, real denial by Guthrie. Not letting any player get to the

:44:57.:45:00.

circle edge. It has gone

:45:01.:45:13.

players, we saw the Trinidad and Tobago bench,

:45:14.:45:46.

McCullen, good links by the Trinidad and Tobago shooters. -- good by.

:45:47.:46:00.

We have from Bayman, from the

:46:01.:46:05.

We have difference to the previous against

:46:06.:46:09.

South Africa. A tough first quarter against South

:46:10.:46:23.

Africa, they trailed at quarter time 8-9 in that one. No such

:46:24.:46:29.

difficulties here today. Chambers almost

:46:30.:46:29.

difficulties here today. Chambers perfection, just pulled up by the

:46:30.:46:40.

South African umpire. Good screen on the line by Clarke allowing Corbin

:46:41.:46:52.

to come through. Just a little bit flat in the shooting circle, Harten

:46:53.:46:57.

realised that, moved out through the top. Inside the final ten seconds,

:46:58.:47:04.

England's lead by ten, a good start to this match by them. Trinidad and

:47:05.:47:10.

Tobago, can they find the last goal? No, they can't, England have

:47:11.:47:15.

one goal a minute for their efforts in the first quarter, which they

:47:16.:47:19.

lead by ten over Trinidad and Tobago.

:47:20.:47:30.

So a good start for England, but for Trinidad and Tobago, their first

:47:31.:47:35.

goal coming with eight and a half minutes remaining in the first

:47:36.:47:38.

quarter. Still in the 70s, the shooting

:47:39.:47:48.

percentages, and that is something that needs to be worked on. Shot

:47:49.:47:54.

attempts, what a difference, 19-7. And there we start to see the impact

:47:55.:47:59.

of ball into the circle, the goal assists for England far greater,

:48:00.:48:02.

breaking down for Trinidad and Tobago in the mid-court.

:48:03.:48:10.

Trinidad and Tobago did struggle to start with, it took them six and a

:48:11.:48:17.

half minutes to get their first shot. Good interception by Bayman.

:48:18.:48:23.

It is often the first line of defence for England that is coming

:48:24.:48:27.

out with possession. When the triangle is set around the circle,

:48:28.:48:32.

it works, and there we see Beckford-Chambers, good tracking,

:48:33.:48:38.

goody... Goodbody position on the goal attack. Joelisa Cooper keeps

:48:39.:48:43.

fighting strong for Trinidad and Tobago, working well with McCollin.

:48:44.:48:50.

That's straight ball is the one England's needs to do more of.

:48:51.:48:59.

Continued the defence, make sure when we are dropping off, we step

:49:00.:49:04.

back. So some changes to tell you about

:49:05.:49:39.

for Trinidad and Tobago, Rhonda John-Davis goes from wing attack to

:49:40.:49:48.

centre. And La Roche-Brice comes in to wing defence. So a little change,

:49:49.:49:52.

a double shuffle in the mid-court for Wesley Gomez. Anika La

:49:53.:49:57.

Roche-Brice, the captain, has a chance to have an influence on this

:49:58.:50:02.

game. As for England, no changes for them.

:50:03.:50:07.

So England get this second quarter under way, leading by ten, and

:50:08.:50:19.

opting not to shuffle her pack for this second 15 minutes, or at least

:50:20.:50:27.

the start of it. It is an 11-macro gold, unlucky for Kadeen Corbin. La

:50:28.:50:31.

Roche-Brice, John-Davis. Guthrie gets the throw in for

:50:32.:50:49.

England, some great defence from England, and then thrown away.

:50:50.:50:56.

Mentor and Guthrie not on the same wavelength.

:50:57.:51:10.

It is a struggle for them when they get to the circle edge, they feed

:51:11.:51:17.

much better, the swing of the ball, but no lead to the front pocket.

:51:18.:51:22.

With the swing needs to come the movement of the shooters, and the

:51:23.:51:27.

idea was right, but credits to Trinidad and Tobago. They were

:51:28.:51:32.

patient, they could not get the ball to circle edge, but they retained

:51:33.:51:36.

possession with that shot gain. That is good.

:51:37.:51:41.

Fast hands by Harten, sensing the movement of the goal attack for

:51:42.:51:58.

England. Crucial that Trinidad and Tobago keep working the ground,

:51:59.:52:01.

pulling their fence apart from England, who have set their page in

:52:02.:52:04.

the centre of the court. They lead to the front pocket a

:52:05.:52:17.

split too late, but they do feed it into the back, where Trinidad score

:52:18.:52:28.

another goal. Cuppa finding the target. -- Cooper. Good reset in,

:52:29.:52:38.

getting the ball back to the transfers line, Clarke going again.

:52:39.:52:43.

Jack getting out well at the centre pass for Trinidad and Tobago.

:52:44.:52:55.

Jack into John-Davis, this is McCollin. It has gone against La

:52:56.:53:09.

Roche-Brice. That is allowing England still have another attack.

:53:10.:53:12.

Well, that is not one from the training manual, but it works for

:53:13.:53:18.

England on that occasion. Yes, Harten just needed Clarke in

:53:19.:53:35.

the pocket, but she recovered well. Just timing a little bit for England

:53:36.:53:41.

letting them down as they get into this final phase towards the

:53:42.:53:48.

shooting circle. That is better work from Bayman through to Joe -- Jo

:53:49.:53:55.

Harten. Daystar Swift is tracking well, a

:53:56.:54:11.

difficult defender to get around, and probably just realising that

:54:12.:54:17.

now, Jo Harten, potentially better if she stays back with one on one in

:54:18.:54:25.

the circle. With the medal matches to come, the semifinal and then

:54:26.:54:29.

either gold or bronze, it is going to be looking after the ball, isn't

:54:30.:54:31.

it? It is, possession will be to be looking after the ball, isn't

:54:32.:54:37.

crucial. Individual errors for any team who want to be in the

:54:38.:54:40.

semifinals, they need to be eradicated from their

:54:41.:54:44.

semifinals, they need to be sent out a

:54:45.:54:56.

with a phenomenal display against Malawi. It was an incredible first

:54:57.:55:07.

half, 25-10, 23-15, there were goals galore, Jamaica looked really

:55:08.:55:13.

ominous. You can't really say that either New Zealand, Australia or

:55:14.:55:16.

England have put down a performance like that yet in this tournament.

:55:17.:55:23.

Jamaica, the first team to really show their hands. Unlucky, Sara

:55:24.:55:26.

Bayman. Yes, definitely working the ball well, Jamaica, with lots of

:55:27.:55:33.

options on the bench, lots of positional changes that they could

:55:34.:55:39.

make. Tactically, Jamaica could play a very different game when it

:55:40.:55:41.

make. Tactically, Jamaica could play to the semifinal stages, if they did

:55:42.:55:48.

opt for two of their main aerial base shooters. Aged and played at

:55:49.:55:59.

goalkeeper last night for Jamaica, incredibly effective. -- Aitken.

:56:00.:56:05.

That is another option that Jamaica house. But that is in the future,

:56:06.:56:11.

this is now, and Trinidad and Tobago just a little wayward on that shot.

:56:12.:56:16.

this is now, and Trinidad and Tobago And England will go hunting for

:56:17.:56:28.

12- goal lead. A handle on is in there from La Roche-Brice, and a

:56:29.:56:32.

legal one, halting the flow of the attack.

:56:33.:56:47.

Nowhere to go for Harten, back to the transfers line, feeds Bayman. --

:56:48.:57:07.

Nowhere to go for Harten, back to transverse. A shove in the shoulder

:57:08.:57:13.

from Harten, and England get that 12 point lead back. It is interesting,

:57:14.:57:18.

Jo Harten doing an awful lot of the play, Kadeen

:57:19.:57:19.

Jo Harten doing an awful lot of the shots in this game. That is a better

:57:20.:57:24.

finish from Jo Harten. Good pressure again by England, just

:57:25.:57:36.

seeing how they try to force wide, tried to deny the movement. Pole,

:57:37.:57:44.

Geva Mentor! -- oh. We have seen some fantastic athleticism from a

:57:45.:57:48.

number of athletes at this tournament. Credits to the line of

:57:49.:57:53.

defence in front of Geva Mentor there, they put the pressure on to

:57:54.:57:55.

allow that movement through there, they put the pressure on to

:57:56.:58:01.

that ball. Time out being called as we have another look at this piece

:58:02.:58:07.

of work. Superb pick-up by Sara Bayman. Khalifa McCollin has called

:58:08.:58:16.

the time out, looking for some attention, she is just having some

:58:17.:58:21.

work done on that right ankle. Trinidad opening their account in

:58:22.:58:37.

the second quarter are a lot earlier than they did in the first, but not

:58:38.:58:41.

being able to score at regular intervals and get some sort of

:58:42.:58:45.

momentum going. It is tough for them, and we mentioned Sara Bayman

:58:46.:58:49.

starting for the first time, she has had a good game. Solid performance

:58:50.:58:54.

so far from Sara Bayman, and she picks off an awful lot of

:58:55.:58:57.

possession, she is the real threat for Trinidad and Tobago in the

:58:58.:59:02.

mid-court as they tried to move the ball through the court. She is on

:59:03.:59:07.

fire, Sara Bayman, a safe pair of hands in delivering through to goal.

:59:08.:59:13.

The driving force for Manchester Thunder, who won the Super League in

:59:14.:59:22.

Great Britain last season. And good to see her back, because she had a

:59:23.:59:28.

knee injury she, a couple of seasons ago? If you are wondering what the

:59:29.:59:32.

black things are on the back of their necks, it is a GPS that track

:59:33.:59:37.

their movements throughout the match so the analysis can be done with a

:59:38.:59:38.

fine tooth comb. Here is Jade Clarke to Bayman, and

:59:39.:59:56.

there you go, having talked up, the commentator's curs, she cannot bring

:59:57.:00:00.

that in! The swing of the ball to John-Davis.

:00:01.:00:13.

Cooper scores. McCollin almost playing a centre

:00:14.:00:41.

wing attack role. That challenge was almost a little

:00:42.:00:51.

brush. -- rash.

:00:52.:01:14.

That was rifled in there, too Corbin. The idea was right.

:01:15.:01:22.

England are having a patch. Struggling to work it through.

:01:23.:01:28.

A better start by Trinidad and Tobago. After the time-out.

:01:29.:01:43.

McCollin knows exactly what she needs to do. That movement towards

:01:44.:01:51.

the ball, opening up the space to get the ball through to Joelisa

:01:52.:01:56.

Cooper. A wonderful pass from John-Davis,

:01:57.:02:07.

but not quite red in the attacking circle -- read. England haven't

:02:08.:02:16.

added to their score, they can't afford to have a period in the game

:02:17.:02:20.

of two or three minutes where you don't score goals. Because no

:02:21.:02:25.

opposition can take the game away from you in that moment. Absolutely.

:02:26.:02:32.

Credit to Trinidad and Tobago. They have worked the ball, played the

:02:33.:02:36.

short game, getting to the circle edge. 7-5 to England in this

:02:37.:02:41.

quarter. Oh, dear. Cooper coming up short on

:02:42.:02:50.

the shot, and all the good work didn't bring any reward.

:02:51.:02:55.

Clarke, three minutes since England scored a goal.

:02:56.:03:00.

Good vision by Corbin. A fast release, two on one, Joanne Harten.

:03:01.:03:06.

Good vision by Corbin. A fast release, two on She clawed that ball

:03:07.:03:11.

in. Isn't that her nickname in the

:03:12.:03:29.

league, The Claw. A good pick up again by

:03:30.:03:40.

Beckford-Chambers. She will be looking for more constituency,

:03:41.:03:42.

Joanne, in this game. England, as you mentioned, eight

:03:43.:03:53.

goals in this quarter so far. Really, a minimum of 12 in each

:03:54.:04:03.

quarter. 18 goals is their target. So, that

:04:04.:04:09.

is the understanding to compete with number one and number two in this

:04:10.:04:13.

world. Firing at 50% right now. Equally

:04:14.:04:21.

looking at the distribution between the number of shots between goal

:04:22.:04:25.

attack, goal shooter, targets on the goal attacks. Sharing some of that

:04:26.:04:29.

shooting. A bit of pressure by

:04:30.:04:42.

Beckford-Chambers. A lot more pressure on Joelisa Cooper's

:04:43.:04:42.

movement. I am not sure McCollin would have

:04:43.:04:56.

been any closer on the return pass than she was with the initial

:04:57.:04:57.

penalty. She feels a little than she was with the initial

:04:58.:05:03.

side, it doesn't show as she puts it Good defence by Swift but well

:05:04.:05:18.

played by Kadeen Corbin who steadies on the shot. For a 19-year-old,

:05:19.:05:29.

McCollin does command the attack for Trinidad and Tobago.

:05:30.:05:41.

Plenty of, worth games -- Commonwealth Games for her at 19

:05:42.:05:48.

years of age. A better, nation of passes. As we approach the final 60

:05:49.:05:51.

seconds, England lead 27-11. Guthrie rushed in. England get the

:05:52.:06:10.

throw in. Harten. Comes up short on the shot.

:06:11.:06:18.

England are up to 12 goals in this quarter.

:06:19.:06:27.

A better performance Certainly forward options which they

:06:28.:06:39.

were missing in the McCollin. Double jump by

:06:40.:06:56.

Beckford-Chambers. McCollin will have another chance to ride to

:06:57.:07:02.

Trinidad and Tobago's total. So, McCollin. She finishes the half with

:07:03.:07:09.

a goal. And that is half-time here at the NSPCC. England are in charge

:07:10.:07:19.

against Trinidad and Tobago. -- SECC.

:07:20.:07:27.

We are going to leave the netball now. This match is available on the

:07:28.:07:38.

Red Button. The men's hockey continues, both

:07:39.:07:51.

sides their group.

:07:52.:08:14.

Let us go straight over to hand in pork where they have been roaring

:08:15.:08:24.

for track and field -- had over to Hampden Park. What a treat we had

:08:25.:08:41.

last night. Let us look back to those 200m. In the women's race, the

:08:42.:08:45.

big story was blessing Blessing Okagbare. She was incredible. She

:08:46.:08:55.

looked fantastic in the semifinals. 10.93. It was a question, could she

:08:56.:09:03.

raise her game for the final. Against Veronica Campbell-Brown,

:09:04.:09:06.

multiple Olympic medallist. She was so good out of the blocks.

:09:07.:09:12.

Powerful and strong running. You thought Broad Oak might come back --

:09:13.:09:26.

Pharaonic. But Okagbare, you could see how much that meant to her.

:09:27.:09:33.

She was incredibly relaxed, given the history. You are right, thinking

:09:34.:09:46.

about her history. Do we learn from mistakes? This is crucial. She made

:09:47.:09:51.

a couple of mistakes at the World Championships and took herself at

:09:52.:09:56.

medals. Now she has honed all of her skills and delivered at the

:09:57.:10:02.

Commonwealth Games. In the men's 100m, it was a gold

:10:03.:10:08.

medal for Jamaica, as you expected. And a new name. And a silver for

:10:09.:10:15.

Adam Gemili. He ran his face perfectly well. Out of the blocks as

:10:16.:10:20.

strong and as positively as he could. He got into his running well.

:10:21.:10:28.

In contrast, I am laughing because the Jamaican didn't react. He was so

:10:29.:10:33.

confident he could run the whole field down

:10:34.:10:34.

the Jamaican didn't react. He was so confident he could run the which is

:10:35.:10:38.

what he did. He ambled it? Was he hurt, he looked like he was

:10:39.:10:43.

hobbling over the line? I think he went harder than he wanted to. To

:10:44.:10:49.

claw back the gap he lost initially. He is a beautiful banner, so very

:10:50.:10:54.

tall, about 1.95, almost as tall as you saying bolt -- a beautiful

:10:55.:10:59.

runner. And Adam?

:11:00.:11:09.

It is important to be in the mix. You have to raise your game,

:11:10.:11:14.

especially against the Jamaicans. They have come here in force. Adam

:11:15.:11:19.

knew what he needed to do. His first senior medal. He will be slightly

:11:20.:11:24.

disappointed with the time but a great performance. What about this

:11:25.:11:31.

morning? This is the timetable for a fantastic session of athletics, into

:11:32.:11:37.

the early afternoon. Greg Rutherford in the men's long

:11:38.:11:41.

jump qualifying, fingers crossed he is back to form and fitness.

:11:42.:11:46.

The women's heptathlon gets under way.

:11:47.:11:49.

The men's death cap launch continues, our first action on the

:11:50.:11:55.

track -- decathlon. Andy Turner in the hurdles.

:11:56.:12:06.

David Weir is in the T54 men's 1500m.

:12:07.:12:07.

David Rudisha next. Where do you start for a highlight?

:12:08.:12:23.

Probably the strongest morning session we have got today and later

:12:24.:12:28.

this evening. A great day of athletics. The crowd want to see

:12:29.:12:36.

more Scottish medals, Eilidh Child had to navigate this wonderful

:12:37.:12:39.

hurdles race. A lot to look forward to. Greg Rutherford, if he is injury

:12:40.:12:52.

free. And the quality event! Let us look back to yesterday evening and

:12:53.:12:57.

the 400m, the final event. A great day for Damian Warner who started

:12:58.:13:02.

off with an incredibly fast 100m, a personal best, and finished the day,

:13:03.:13:04.

the way he started. A good first day for Ashley Bryant

:13:05.:13:17.

of England and John Lane. At this point, after four events Damian

:13:18.:13:21.

Warner hanging on. John Lane coming through. Very quick that these

:13:22.:13:28.

athletes. These were the standings at the end.

:13:29.:13:34.

John Lane of England, a great first day. The question is can he hang on

:13:35.:13:42.

for a medal in this second day? We expect Ashley Bryant to come

:13:43.:13:50.

through. We have now to the commentary team

:13:51.:13:54.

standing by, Andrew Cotter, good morning.

:13:55.:13:58.

Good morning indeed and welcome to Hampden Park, a little bit cooler,

:13:59.:14:07.

and the men's death cap launch. Look out for Damian Warner. A second

:14:08.:14:12.

faster than the rest in this high hurdles. Ashley Bryant in contention

:14:13.:14:20.

for a medal. Kurt Felix who ran in the first heat did not get close to

:14:21.:14:27.

his personal best. So he will slip back in little bit.

:14:28.:14:42.

Cleanly away. David Warner. Ashley Bryant clashing a couple of hurdles.

:14:43.:14:53.

David Warner is a long way clear as we expected. What is the time?

:14:54.:14:59.

13.51. And we look further down the field for the English athletes.

:15:00.:15:02.

Inside his personal best. very clean across the hurdles

:15:03.:15:19.

there. Conversely, England's Ashley Bryant it's just about

:15:20.:15:20.

there. Conversely, England's Ashley He clattered every hurdle, the

:15:21.:15:27.

Englishman highly fancied. Oh, my word! That is the last thing you

:15:28.:15:32.

want, it hits your rhythm, it hurts your rhythm. On the other side of

:15:33.:15:35.

the track, John Lane is having a whale of a time, fantastic PB first

:15:36.:15:43.

day yesterday, three PBs, and a clean race from him to maybe take

:15:44.:15:48.

second, possibly third. At a Diamond League meeting here a couple of

:15:49.:15:53.

weeks ago, the hurdlers were talking about the warm up track having a

:15:54.:15:56.

different feel to the actual track, and they were struggling with the

:15:57.:16:01.

first hurdle. Ashley Bryant is not as confident as those men, trying to

:16:02.:16:08.

find an excuse for him. Damian Warner has been rounded down a

:16:09.:16:13.

couple of hundredths of a second. He flew in the 100m flat, 10.29, which

:16:14.:16:19.

was extraordinary. Ashley Bryant hitting the first hurdle, clipping

:16:20.:16:22.

the second, and from there your balance and rhythm is all over the

:16:23.:16:27.

place. He is in medal contention at the moment, lying fourth as we

:16:28.:16:32.

speak. He has a great javelin throw. John Lane, three personal bests

:16:33.:16:35.

yesterday, in the back of the picture there, trying to get close

:16:36.:16:40.

to his personal best. Not too far away, but that race was all about

:16:41.:16:43.

Warner, and he is heading for gold. Men's long jump qualification, and

:16:44.:16:57.

an anxious look on the face of England's Greg Rutherford, the

:16:58.:17:01.

Olympic champion, starting his bid to add macro the Commonwealth title

:17:02.:17:10.

to his list of achievements. 7.90 is automatic, anything beyond that, he

:17:11.:17:13.

can go home and come back tomorrow for the final. No-one has gone

:17:14.:17:20.

beyond that mark yet. Chris Tomlinson is just one centimetre

:17:21.:17:21.

shy, out in front. That is big, that is beyond eight

:17:22.:17:33.

metres! Does he get the white flags? It looks as though it is good, yes,

:17:34.:17:40.

he does. And breathe! I don't know why, I always feel a little anxious,

:17:41.:17:45.

he has had so much injury woes, qualification always a no bragging

:17:46.:17:49.

time. The pressure on him, all eyes on him as Olympic champion. --

:17:50.:17:56.

always a nerve wracking time. Eight metres, safe on the board.

:17:57.:18:00.

always a nerve wracking time. Eight very good jump, especially first

:18:01.:18:08.

round qualification, shoes off. And we are just waiting for confirmation

:18:09.:18:10.

of that, 8.05, we are just waiting for confirmation

:18:11.:18:16.

the Hampden Park crowd here for the Englishman, big smile. Big smile!

:18:17.:18:26.

There it is, 8.05, well done, Greg! Right, time to do some arithmetic.

:18:27.:18:32.

Damian Warner winning that one, pretty much according to form.

:18:33.:18:40.

13.52, 100th of a second inside his personal best, a Games best in the

:18:41.:18:50.

decathlon. So we convert it all to points, and after six events, Damian

:18:51.:18:55.

Warner is a long way clear, but John Lane helped by the fact that Kurt

:18:56.:19:00.

Felix did not do well in the first heat of the hurdles. Ashley Bryant

:19:01.:19:04.

has got a great javelin. The key thing is going to be the javelin. I

:19:05.:19:09.

was talking to the great man Daley Thompson, and he said, don't look at

:19:10.:19:13.

this event in terms of medals until after the pole vault, that is the

:19:14.:19:18.

big event. Ashley Bryant is a fantastic javelin thrower, John Lane

:19:19.:19:23.

not so much. The discus will come next, then the pole vault, then

:19:24.:19:26.

javelin, then 1500 metres to finish. The other names there.

:19:27.:19:34.

Martin Brockman down in 11th place. Some of those athletes have better

:19:35.:19:35.

events to come. Now then, Chris Tomlinson. He

:19:36.:19:52.

mentioned the first-round jump of 7.90 automatic qualification, and

:19:53.:19:58.

good battle between the Englishman, Greg and Chris. And that's jump just

:19:59.:20:04.

shy of the 7.90 automatic qualifying, but 7.89 is what that

:20:05.:20:16.

was. He won't look happy! He has his leg heavily strapped there. That is

:20:17.:20:22.

his take-off leg, and he will need to go into that final full of

:20:23.:20:28.

health, because he will need to jump beyond eight metres to be in the mix

:20:29.:20:32.

for medals. That will probably take him through to the final.

:20:33.:20:41.

Time for Australia's Henry Frayne to have a go trying to qualify, world

:20:42.:20:47.

indoor silver medallist in this event. The athletes choosing to

:20:48.:20:54.

leave their longs on, their tights. A little fresh this morning, also a

:20:55.:21:00.

bit of psychology in there, maybe wanting to show, I am not trying

:21:01.:21:05.

that had, I don't need to take the bottoms off. -- hard. Around

:21:06.:21:10.

automatic call for him, 8.10 already this season, he looks back on it in

:21:11.:21:17.

terms of 7.90. It is always a tough decision if you don't quite get it,

:21:18.:21:22.

the automatic qualification that is, because you might need to have

:21:23.:21:26.

another jump just to make sure. But it is top 12 if you don't get the

:21:27.:21:36.

automatic. 7.85 for Henry Frayne. Damar Forbes coming out of Jamaica.

:21:37.:21:44.

He looks controlled on the runway, does Forbes, very quick, one of the

:21:45.:21:53.

quickest of the long jumpers. Again, around that 8.0 metres mark. So it

:21:54.:22:01.

looks as though there will be a group of athletes in contention for

:22:02.:22:10.

that medal tomorrow evening, 8.0 metres plus. As we wait for his

:22:11.:22:20.

mark, he looks pleased. So we are likely to have a couple of

:22:21.:22:24.

Australians. South likely to have a couple of

:22:25.:22:34.

strong in this event as well, with Visser leading the way. Taking a

:22:35.:22:40.

while for the diseased and -- for the distances to come up. Bang on

:22:41.:22:49.

the automatic. A great feeling to hits automatic

:22:50.:22:52.

qualification with your first jump, pack your bags and go back to the

:22:53.:22:56.

village, great relief for Greg Rutherford. If you think back to

:22:57.:23:00.

Moscow, when he came in with fitness doubts, he did not qualify. No, and

:23:01.:23:06.

he was a troubled man last year, but he seems to have shrugged that off.

:23:07.:23:12.

Yes, he has had a few injury problems this year, but mentally he

:23:13.:23:15.

seems to be on the right place, he has changed his training group a

:23:16.:23:19.

couple of times, and it's just seems like a more complete man. And he's

:23:20.:23:23.

proving that is jumping is back to his very best. We will all very

:23:24.:23:28.

impressed with that first jump of his, 8.05, and technically sometimes

:23:29.:23:33.

he over rotates, but well in control of that. Yes, you know that

:23:34.:23:37.

qualification mornings can of that. Yes, you know that

:23:38.:23:41.

difficult, but he looked really good on the runway, and his preparation

:23:42.:23:44.

into that take-off, just really balanced, and that is what you want.

:23:45.:23:49.

He has got great flat speed, great jumping ability, and when he

:23:50.:23:53.

combines that well, without, as you said, that forward rotation that he

:23:54.:23:57.

sometimes does, that is the result, a consistent 8.0 metres plus

:23:58.:24:02.

jumper. The other slight bubble not of his own making was the 8.51

:24:03.:24:10.

British record, questions raised by Chris Tomlinson, was it legal? That

:24:11.:24:16.

can't be very comfortable for either of them, to have that type of battle

:24:17.:24:22.

in public. But I think what was impressive about Greg, he has said,

:24:23.:24:27.

I don't do the measuring, I just do the jumping. What the was old is is

:24:28.:24:31.

what the result is, it has been ratified, he is the British record

:24:32.:24:37.

holder. I want to say that this is very good for jumping, this track.

:24:38.:24:40.

If you go back to the Anniversary Games, a lot of good jumps took

:24:41.:24:45.

place on the track. I remember saying, Greg will be furious that he

:24:46.:24:49.

is not jumping on this particular surface. Yes, if you did not know,

:24:50.:24:55.

this track is on stilts, a bit like the gates that are at Manchester

:24:56.:25:00.

with a layer of concrete on top. I wonder if there is a slightly

:25:01.:25:04.

different dynamic from a track laid on the ground. Completely, and I

:25:05.:25:09.

have not been down, but it seems to be a surface that people are

:25:10.:25:13.

responding to. I remember Katarina Johnson-Thompson jumping extremely

:25:14.:25:17.

well, setting a new personal best, having to take a run-up back. So

:25:18.:25:23.

yes... It might be just a tiny bit of bounce. This is why the hurdlers

:25:24.:25:28.

are struggling, because it throws you, peaches you into the hurdle,

:25:29.:25:33.

and if the warm up track is very different to the competition track,

:25:34.:25:39.

they could run into trouble. Let's look back to Damian Warner over the

:25:40.:25:43.

hurdles in the decathlon. A real is printer, he marries a really good,

:25:44.:25:49.

stable technique, which the decathletes will find very difficult

:25:50.:25:53.

to master, because they have to try and muster ten events, they have to

:25:54.:25:57.

be good at all ten, so I think he's a natural runner and hurdler, and I

:25:58.:26:01.

think he enjoys those events, and that is why we see great

:26:02.:26:06.

performances from him. We talked about his PB in the 100m, same as

:26:07.:26:13.

yours, 10.29, how does that translate to a hurdle time? Is that

:26:14.:26:23.

a slow conversion? It could be better, no doubt, but he is not a

:26:24.:26:26.

specialist hurdler, and you have to take that into consideration. You

:26:27.:26:28.

can only spend a certain amount of time on his hurdling, so what we

:26:29.:26:33.

have just seen as more than adequate in the capital on. You mentioned

:26:34.:26:37.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson and long jump performance, women's heptathlon

:26:38.:26:40.

coming up this morning, and she is not here, such a disappointment. I

:26:41.:26:46.

am so gutted for though, she is in great shape, fantastic shape, but

:26:47.:26:52.

you know, this happens sometimes. It is just really bad timing, and what

:26:53.:26:56.

she will have to do going forward is look at why and how she managed to

pick up this injury. She is a wonderful jumper, we talk about that

:27:02.:27:05.

speed and being able to convert at that speed that she generates on the

:27:06.:27:10.

runway. Do you think are focused on the high jump and the long jump has

:27:11.:27:15.

put extra strain on her? Personally, that is my opinion. It is not easy.

:27:16.:27:20.

I fell into that category as well, maybe jumping too much, because you

:27:21.:27:24.

are doing the jumping in training, and she has done a lot of long jump

:27:25.:27:29.

and high jump competitions, together with the heptathlon. It puts a

:27:30.:27:32.

strain on the joints. So she is going to have to go away and think,

:27:33.:27:36.

maybe at the trials could I have done javelin instead or short,

:27:37.:27:41.

working on the events I am not so good at? I don't know. And other

:27:42.:27:46.

English athlete not here is organ like, who was doing the world Junior

:27:47.:27:51.

Championships in America, what a performance she provided. -- Morgan

:27:52.:27:57.

Lake. Stunning, Denise must be very proud that the heptathlete are doing

:27:58.:28:03.

so well! We are talking globally, and talking about what we will do in

:28:04.:28:08.

Rio, we mentioned that Jess may find it difficult to return instantly,

:28:09.:28:12.

but what a catalogue of great heptathlete we have got. Talking

:28:13.:28:18.

about Damian Warner there, generally great flat speed, and speed is the

:28:19.:28:24.

key to a great have to learn and decathlon, and Morgan Lake, her

:28:25.:28:31.

speed is not quite there, but she has got wonderful jumping ability.

:28:32.:28:36.

Look at her form, languid, lovely, rangy jumper, and she is as good as,

:28:37.:28:46.

you know, Carillion Kluft at this stage. -- Carolina. British junior

:28:47.:28:54.

record. Just fantastic. Lot of good heptathlete here, trust me! Steve

:28:55.:29:00.

Cram has been looking at the 110 metres hurdles in the heptathlon.

:29:01.:29:05.

Talking about the strength in depth, a view of the bronze medallists from

:29:06.:29:09.

eight years ago, Grace Clements of England. Three English women taking

:29:10.:29:15.

England. Three part, a late replacement for Katarina

:29:16.:29:17.

Johnson-Thompson was just happen, and Jessica Taylor will be going as

:29:18.:29:25.

well. The outstanding favourite is Briannae Theisen Eaton. Grace

:29:26.:29:26.

Clements will be hoping that Briannae Theisen Eaton. Grace

:29:27.:29:36.

Delhi. A huge welcome as all of the home country athletes have received

:29:37.:29:43.

during these Games. An interesting conversation about Morgan Lake and

:29:44.:29:52.

KJT, I think it was the right decision of those around her to

:29:53.:29:57.

centred to the World Juniors, rewarded with two fabulous titles.

:29:58.:30:06.

So two heats of this, seeded according to hurdling ability in

:30:07.:30:09.

terms of times obviously, so this is how the first one lines up.

:30:10.:30:41.

Australia. Not such a good start but the Australian is starting to go

:30:42.:30:47.

away. Pulling away. A good performance by Stanwell. That is

:30:48.:30:52.

just outside her personal best. Into a slight headwind. It is chilly this

:30:53.:30:57.

morning, as Andrew said. A swirling breeze. It had been with the men

:30:58.:31:02.

earlier in the decathlon on. It just took the edge of the times. Grace

:31:03.:31:08.

Clements, a good performance from her in second place.

:31:09.:31:14.

For Grace Clements, having Sophie Stanwell of Australia next to almost

:31:15.:31:18.

helped her in her pick-up to the first hurdle. Matching her stride

:31:19.:31:25.

for stride out of the blocks. Watch this, the Australian to her left,

:31:26.:31:30.

matching her and almost tries to go with her. She knows she is slightly

:31:31.:31:35.

quicker on paper. Grace Clements with a season's best. Very close to

:31:36.:31:43.

that. A clean run. A quicker time than she might have done, with the

:31:44.:31:49.

help of an Aussie. It is going to be interesting. When

:31:50.:31:55.

you look at Theisen-Eaton. There are one or two who are quite good.

:31:56.:32:06.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is also here. -- Theisen-Eaton.

:32:07.:32:16.

Stanwell winning. 14.18. Grace Clements, a very good start for her.

:32:17.:32:24.

As Steve was saying, her seasons best -- season's best.

:32:25.:32:42.

In the men's decathlon, Damian Warner is the standout.

:32:43.:33:03.

In the women's heptathlon, we have quality athletes. That head too hide

:33:04.:33:15.

we have looked for was a mouthwatering prospect. In May when

:33:16.:33:20.

they competed in the combined event, they were pushing each other

:33:21.:33:27.

all the way. It is not going to be easy for Brianne. When you are on

:33:28.:33:31.

your own, you have to stay focused. You might not be pushed. She will

:33:32.:33:35.

have to raise her game to make sure she stays in that moment, when she

:33:36.:33:41.

is waiting around for hours. Brianne, in Moscow, getting a silver

:33:42.:33:46.

medal. There is no question of pressure, you would think, getting

:33:47.:33:52.

to her. She is used to being in a major Championship situation.

:33:53.:33:55.

She may look at the conditions and think, I am going to go for it. I

:33:56.:34:01.

can take a little risk in some events and extend my performance. I

:34:02.:34:05.

am hoping the conditions change to give them a fair chance. A strong

:34:06.:34:10.

headwind, I am sure she would like to give herself a good total

:34:11.:34:17.

overall. What is the Championship record? Was it you?

:34:18.:34:29.

There will be one very interested spectator today. The world record

:34:30.:34:38.

holder, her husband, Ashton. He will be supporting his wife, as he does

:34:39.:34:43.

all the time. Giving words of encouragement. They do train

:34:44.:34:48.

together. They have a great coach. He gives them both what they need.

:34:49.:34:56.

Sometimes, that dynamic is not easy. She is really strong, a great

:34:57.:34:58.

sprinter as well. Ashley has been doing some 400m

:34:59.:35:09.

hurdles as well. He is enjoying his ear off.

:35:10.:35:13.

Andrew, it is all yours. Welcome to this heat of the 100

:35:14.:35:22.

metres hurdles. We just saw Jessica Tappin. Jessica

:35:23.:35:27.

Zelinka is an individual Olympics finalist in this event. She will be

:35:28.:35:32.

favourite for the silver medal in the overall heptathlon behind

:35:33.:35:38.

Brianne. But a lot of things can happen. There is a chance for other

:35:39.:35:43.

athletes. Al CD goes in lane four.

:35:44.:36:00.

Slack of Jamaica. -- Alcide. And the favourite, looking for a good start.

:36:01.:36:07.

13 seconds flat she has managed in the 100 metres hurdles before. A

:36:08.:36:11.

good event for her. She is good pretty much all the way through the

:36:12.:36:16.

event. Jessica Zelinka, her Canadian team-mate. What can Jessica Tappin

:36:17.:36:26.

and Jessica Taylor do? There are certainly medals up for

:36:27.:36:33.

grabs for someone else in this field. Tappin and Taylor have a very

:36:34.:36:43.

good shout. Jessica Tappin is the stronger

:36:44.:36:50.

hurdler in the race. Away they go. Already, Jessica

:36:51.:36:59.

Zelinka is moving away comfortably. Brianne with a decent run. Tappin in

:37:00.:37:06.

third place. A little bit of a breeze behind. A

:37:07.:37:12.

Games best in this event for Jessica Zelinka of Canada. It may be her

:37:13.:37:19.

illustrious team-mate who takes the title.

:37:20.:37:22.

The two in dish athlete title.

:37:23.:37:29.

behind, Jessica Tappin ran pretty well -- English athletes.

:37:30.:37:33.

A good start for Jessica Zelinka, as we expected.

:37:34.:37:38.

You can tell she is a well honed hurdler and she runs away from this

:37:39.:37:45.

field, as she is expected to in this heptathlon. Both Canadians are

:37:46.:37:54.

likely on paper at least to be the main contenders. But there is a

:37:55.:37:55.

bronze medal up for grabs. This makes for a great two days of

:37:56.:38:15.

activity. Brianne Theisen-Eaton is an outright favourite.

:38:16.:38:24.

Let us concentrate on the two English athletes. Jessica Tappin

:38:25.:38:28.

does have a very decent personal best in the hurdles. She has got

:38:29.:38:33.

reasonably close to it. Jessica Taylor on the inside, she has won a

:38:34.:38:40.

personal best here. That is what we are looking for, to beat your

:38:41.:38:45.

personal best. The hurdling technique of Jessica Zelinka is

:38:46.:38:53.

flawless. It adds up to a comfortable victory.

:38:54.:39:02.

A Games best. The overall favourite is in second place. And a personal

:39:03.:39:07.

best for Jessica Taylor. JJ Jegede Matt -- is looking for an

:39:08.:39:26.

automatic qualification. Come on! 7.90 is

:39:27.:39:37.

A controlled effort from JJ. Straining through the air, however.

:39:38.:39:45.

He was very good on the board. Straining through the air, however.

:39:46.:39:51.

always a challenge when things go right, which it looked, if it is not

:39:52.:39:56.

quite enough, what do you do about it? That may not be enough. That is

:39:57.:39:59.

eighth place. Greg Rutherford, enjoying himself. A

:40:00.:40:14.

few photos, why not? He has until tomorrow evening to muster

:40:15.:40:16.

few photos, why not? He has until spring. Which he is no doubt mindful

:40:17.:40:18.

of. Olympic champion from two years spring. Which he is no doubt mindful

:40:19.:40:24.

ago. It is the best feeling ever, you qualify first round, gave

:40:25.:40:28.

everyone struggling, do you have a rest. And the official. The bad

:40:29.:40:36.

guy, just doing his job! That is enough.

:40:37.:40:41.

I know he will have half an eye on the rest of the contenders for this

:40:42.:40:50.

long jump. This is certainly one of them. Samaai, one of

:40:51.:40:59.

long jump. This is certainly one of Africans here. He gets the white

:41:00.:41:08.

flag. He is behind the plasticine. Samaai, looking to join Rutherford

:41:09.:41:17.

with automatic qualification. It looks around the mark of Rutherford.

:41:18.:41:28.

Samaai, out towards what is his lifetime best. The 22-year old looks

:41:29.:41:39.

pleased. Yes. Automatic qualifying also will stop good stuff.

:41:40.:41:48.

-- qualifying also. The Greg Rutherford still

:41:49.:41:56.

infuriating the official! I wonder if there is dope testing, there is

:41:57.:42:04.

no him to be brushed off. -- no need for him to be rushed off.

:42:05.:42:19.

Brianne Theisen-Eaton recovered very well after that first total. Which

:42:20.:42:24.

is why keeping focused is so important. A lot of adrenaline.

:42:25.:42:30.

She came out and clattered that first hurdle. I would only assume

:42:31.:42:37.

she is carrying so much speed she was on top of that hurdle too

:42:38.:42:41.

quickly. She recovered nicely, concentrated, and came away with a

:42:42.:42:47.

good hurdles time. You mentioned the hurdlers were

:42:48.:42:54.

struggling because of the wind. It looked like she was too close to

:42:55.:42:59.

the first hurdle. When you hit it with your lead leg, it means you are

:43:00.:43:06.

too close to the barrier. The other thing for Brianne, she had

:43:07.:43:13.

Jessica Zelinka streaking away and she had to maintain her composure.

:43:14.:43:18.

She knows Ellington is a quality hurdler, she has been around a long

:43:19.:43:24.

time and made finals -- she knows Jessica Zelinka.

:43:25.:43:36.

How do you get that out of your mind for the next event. The frustration,

:43:37.:43:44.

that mistake. That is the challenge with the heptathlon, you had to

:43:45.:43:51.

eradicate that. You focused next on becoming the high jumper. The

:43:52.:43:54.

proximity between the hurdles and the high jump, it is quite short

:43:55.:44:01.

between events. You have to lose that baggage early. Whether it is a

:44:02.:44:07.

good one or -1. On the track, the 110 metres hurdles

:44:08.:44:09.

heats. Thank you very much. I wanted to

:44:10.:44:21.

bring you an update on the men's hockey taking place this morning.

:44:22.:44:25.

England have been playing New Zealand. That match has ended with

:44:26.:44:26.

England losing, the score was 2-1. That was the winning goal, scoring

:44:27.:44:38.

from a penalty corner. The moment that took the school to 2-1. It

:44:39.:44:46.

means England may end up facing Australia in a potential semifinal.

:44:47.:44:51.

This is what is on BBC Three at the moment, the morning session at the

:44:52.:44:55.

swimming, Helen Skelton is looking after all of that.

:44:56.:44:59.

That is all available on the Red Button.

:45:00.:45:03.

Netball is continuing now, England still going strong against and dad

:45:04.:45:05.

and Tobago. There is even more on the Sport

:45:06.:45:21.

website, a choice of other live options including badminton, lawn

:45:22.:45:25.

bowls and table tennis. You can take your pick. Back, though, to Hampden

:45:26.:45:33.

Park, a very busy day of athletics under way.

:45:34.:45:37.

Thanks, Mishal, next up on track is the men's 110 metres hurdles, the

:45:38.:45:42.

first heat featuring the defending Commonwealth champion, Andy Turner.

:45:43.:45:49.

I don't think I'm ever going to have a year quite as bad as last year,

:45:50.:45:54.

straight after the Olympics I had surgery, I have to have more

:45:55.:45:58.

surgery, and that is not going to plan. My mum passed away of a

:45:59.:46:06.

stroke, very unexpected, she was my biggest fan, she used to come to the

:46:07.:46:09.

track all the time, watch all the races, so devastating, but during

:46:10.:46:18.

the funeral some little... I can't say the word I wanted to say, but

:46:19.:46:23.

burgled the house and stole everything. A lot of times I have

:46:24.:46:29.

just thought, well, I don't want to do this any more. What have I got

:46:30.:46:38.

left? My motivation just went. But just thinking back, my mum would

:46:39.:46:42.

never have wanted me to stop, she would have wanted me to try and make

:46:43.:46:46.

the World Championships, and I have been fortunate enough to get some

:46:47.:46:51.

shape and qualify for these and get picked for the European

:46:52.:46:55.

Championships as well, so she is watching over me. Andy Turner is

:46:56.:47:00.

going to become the champion. I excited? Do I feel extra pressure?

:47:01.:47:08.

The hurdles has moved on, the standard is very high a guy has run

:47:09.:47:17.

some 13, he is going to be there. I have not ran that this year, so I

:47:18.:47:23.

have got a lot of work to do, and it is an event that on the day, a bit

:47:24.:47:31.

of adrenaline, ten clear barriers, a personal best, my training has got

:47:32.:47:36.

better, I am happy to go and use my experience and try to pull it at the

:47:37.:47:45.

bag! My career kind of depends on how this goes. I am thankful to get

:47:46.:47:52.

the opportunity to run for Great Britain, for England. Thinking about

:47:53.:47:56.

it, it is getting my heart beating, and I can't wait to get out in front

:47:57.:48:02.

of the crowd. : Has disappeared to the commentary box, it is good

:48:03.:48:11.

morning to Paula. -- Colin. For all sorts of reasons, Andy Turner, he

:48:12.:48:16.

has had a really tough time. He has had a really tough time, he has had

:48:17.:48:21.

to stay buried focused and handle a lot of emotional turmoil which can

:48:22.:48:28.

really make it tough when you are trying to compete every day, so he

:48:29.:48:33.

has done really well to get here, and I'm sure that turmoil will give

:48:34.:48:38.

him extra motivation to make this count here. , bronze medallist in

take emotionally and physically, and with Andy, how much of a period of

:49:02.:49:06.

time can he be healthy to get some training in?

:49:07.:49:10.

time can he be healthy to get some time injured, and that is very

:49:11.:49:13.

draining. I have been there myself, and to get here, it is such an

:49:14.:49:18.

incredible testament of his drive, his ambition, and the support that

:49:19.:49:23.

he gets from friends and family to keep going. You end up in a very

:49:24.:49:29.

difficult position where you have got to run to earn money, but you

:49:30.:49:31.

shouldn't really be running got to run to earn money, but you

:49:32.:49:35.

you are not quite fit. Exactly, and at that point it comes down to how

:49:36.:49:40.

much you love what you are doing and how much you want to keep fighting

:49:41.:49:44.

against all those knocks, investing yourself in it. Like you say,

:49:45.:49:48.

putting yourself on the line when you are not quite ready, because you

:49:49.:49:52.

have to fund your next block of training. That is in about five

:49:53.:49:56.

minutes' time, Andy cannot take anything for granted, but in the

:49:57.:50:02.

meantime we will head out to Steve Backley. And we rejoined the long

:50:03.:50:08.

jump, where Greg Rutherford's party still goes on, celebrating

:50:09.:50:17.

qualification. He has left the competition. That official must be

:50:18.:50:24.

losing the will to live. It is a good ten minutes! Is best event of

:50:25.:50:32.

the Games! -- his. He has earned the right to entertain the crowd, you

:50:33.:50:35.

would have to say, and it is great to see him

:50:36.:50:43.

He is going to sell him a dummy any minutes! He gave him the slip! He is

:50:44.:50:52.

going to get a medal for this. He minutes! He gave him the slip! He is

:50:53.:50:56.

would have done well in the sevens with that kind of move!

:50:57.:51:02.

Meanwhile, back at the event proper, the one that Greg has just earned

:51:03.:51:09.

the right to walk away from, this is Australia's Fabrice Lapierre, with

:51:10.:51:16.

his third attempt. A man who we might have expected to easily

:51:17.:51:19.

qualify, he has not yet, but he may have now. It looks as though he has

:51:20.:51:31.

saved his best until last. 8.40 at his very best. That was four years

:51:32.:51:39.

ago, however. 7.87 is his best from this year, but he may have just

:51:40.:51:44.

bettered that, I would suggest. 7.90 is the automatic qualifying. Five

:51:45.:51:50.

men have gone clear already, including England's Greg Rutherford.

:51:51.:51:59.

7.95, a season's best for Fabrice Lapierre.

:52:00.:52:05.

We still live with these wonderful pictures! Look at his face the

:52:06.:52:13.

Meanwhile, again, back to the up, just give up!

:52:14.:52:21.

Meanwhile, again, back to the events, this is all happening as we

:52:22.:52:28.

watch it, JJ Jegede looking trio join the finalists. -- to. He is not

:52:29.:52:40.

quite there just yet. That looks to be a similar mark, the third

:52:41.:52:48.

Englishman. Chris Tomlinson, 7.89, looks like it will qualify. But JJ

:52:49.:52:58.

Jegede, the 2014 UK champion, may be on his way home. We wait to see.

:52:59.:53:02.

This is going to be right down to the wire. Just didn't finish that

:53:03.:53:08.

drive off the board, cut it short. That is a sign of John one just

:53:09.:53:16.

forcing it, no improvement, 7.58. -- that is a sign of someone just

:53:17.:53:20.

forcing it. He might just sneak into the final, 12 to qualify.

:53:21.:53:24.

You have to feel sorry for that official! He has completely given

:53:25.:53:31.

up, hasn't it? Exasperated, I think, is the word to use for him. I think

:53:32.:53:35.

he has had the right attitude to that. That is down, as Greg finally

:53:36.:53:40.

makes his way towards leaving the arena, at the far end. Racing

:53:41.:53:46.

towards an very shortly will be the men in the first heat of the 110

:53:47.:53:54.

metres hurdles. The first two and two fastest losers will be through

:53:55.:53:59.

to the final, so quite brutal. For Andy Turner and the others here, no

:54:00.:54:01.

room for error, this is tough. Well, that is the look of a man who

:54:02.:54:26.

looks determined, doesn't he? He is going to have to produce something

:54:27.:54:30.

pretty special to get into the top two, because without an extra round

:54:31.:54:37.

in here, this is going to be tough. Sharman goes in the third heat.

:54:38.:54:44.

Lawrence Clarke is in the second one.

:54:45.:54:49.

So the conditions are improving, I have to say. There is sunshine and a

:54:50.:54:57.

little bit of blue sky above. It is not that warm, to be honest. Colin

:54:58.:55:00.

Jackson has turned up in what looks like winter clothing, I have to say!

:55:01.:55:06.

Shane Brathwaite is having a great season for Barbados in lane two.

:55:07.:55:12.

Watch out for lane three as well. Brathwaite gets a good start, Thomas

:55:13.:55:18.

just hitting the first hurdle. He has faltered again and again. Andrew

:55:19.:55:22.

Riley coming through, Turner has gone. Andrew Riley is going to take

:55:23.:55:28.

this one. That was expected, but for Andy Turner, sitting on the track,

:55:29.:55:31.

the defending champion, not the way to go out. Despair! It has been a

:55:32.:55:38.

difficult, up and down year once more for Andy Turner, and this is

:55:39.:55:41.

not the way you want to see any champion go out. Always a

:55:42.:55:49.

possibility, Colin, the pressure, apart from injuries and all that

:55:50.:55:54.

sort of thing, do you know? 13.47, the winning time, Riley has been

:55:55.:55:59.

having a cracking year, that was a mountain for Andy Turner to climb.

:56:00.:56:03.

It is very tough, he would have looked at the lane draws and just

:56:04.:56:08.

pondered over his circumstances and the situation and wished he was at

:56:09.:56:12.

his real best, but he smashed into that first hurdle, drove into the

:56:13.:56:15.

second, couldn't recover and that was his race over very quickly. The

:56:16.:56:22.

high hurdles is an unforgiving evident. One mistake and it can

:56:23.:56:26.

seriously cost you. Out in front, Steve, Riley from Jamaica, as you

:56:27.:56:31.

said, has had quite a nice season, building up very well indeed, and he

:56:32.:56:35.

will be pleased he has made it through. He works hard, reacts well,

:56:36.:56:40.

drives into the first hurdle, but he gets close to the barrier. He

:56:41.:56:45.

catches it with his trailing leg, causing him to rotate. He had no

:56:46.:56:49.

chance to recover. Too close to this one, he pushes it down. You can

:56:50.:56:54.

imagine the huge frustration that he is suffering, the defending

:56:55.:57:00.

champion, a tough old dear. A good point you were making in discussion

:57:01.:57:04.

in the studio - what the athletes are saying it is that the warm up

:57:05.:57:09.

track is very hard, it is different in the arena, but that was not the

:57:10.:57:12.

start of the entity was competition he would have wanted, and he has

:57:13.:57:18.

made it down to join Phil Jones. Thanks a lot, Steve, Andy,

:57:19.:57:22.

commiserations. It is going to be difficult for me to even has to a

:57:23.:57:27.

question, maybe you can describe it from your perspective. I got too

:57:28.:57:38.

close to the first hurdle, hits it. And then the second one, and then

:57:39.:57:43.

you are done for. Make a mistake at the first hurdle, to come back is

:57:44.:57:49.

very difficult. Schoolboy error, absolute idiot. You have had a

:57:50.:57:54.

troubled build-up, to say the least, how were you at the start? What was

:57:55.:58:00.

your mindset like? No, it felt really good, training had gone well

:58:01.:58:06.

all week. I felt like I was ready to run fast, I've ran well at the

:58:07.:58:11.

Anniversary Games last week, so I am really disappointed not to put on a

:58:12.:58:15.

better show, a cause that is just shocking. I know Andrew Cotter

:58:16.:58:21.

talked in commentary about something said during the Diamond League

:58:22.:58:26.

meeting about the warm up track, how springy it is, putting you off

:58:27.:58:29.

kilter when it comes to the track here, did you experience anything

:58:30.:58:36.

like that? A track is a track to me. If you run on a track like a

:58:37.:58:39.

springboard, there is not going to be a spring yet one than that, I

:58:40.:58:43.

cannot use that as an excuse. There is no excuse. I didn't execute what

:58:44.:58:48.

I should have done. You know, I am not that guy who was going to go, my

:58:49.:58:52.

shoelace came undone or a dog came on the track or something stupid. I

:58:53.:58:56.

did not do what I was supposed to do. We appreciate your time and your

:58:57.:59:04.

honesty. Cheers. He was very honest, but a little bit

:59:05.:59:08.

harsh on himself, because he mentioned it being a schoolboy

:59:09.:59:12.

error, but sometimes, with the emotion and the adrenaline flowing,

:59:13.:59:14.

remember, he is the defending champion, he was going to work hard

:59:15.:59:21.

into that first hurdle, and unfortunately if he had nailed

:59:22.:59:22.

into that first hurdle, and he would have been up the front, but

:59:23.:59:28.

you take the risk in high hurdles, and it did not pay off for Andy

:59:29.:59:33.

today. Let's that is not the end of him, though. -- let's hope. You can

:59:34.:59:41.

see his reaction, very sad for him, and frustrating. And the wind is

:59:42.:59:54.

blowing harder to the west, which is kind of behind them down the home

:59:55.:00:00.

straight. So it is another easy hurdling, sometimes you get blown

:00:01.:00:04.

down faster to the first hurdle than you would like. As we get ready for

:00:05.:00:10.

is second of these three heats. Straight through to the final. So it

:00:11.:00:14.

is fairly brutal. You have to be on your game to go through. Lawrence

:00:15.:00:25.

Clarke goes here. Such a surprise performance he had at the Olympics.

:00:26.:00:35.

I'm looking to lane 2 where Parchement is supposed to be. I

:00:36.:00:40.

can't see him at the moment. It says he is lining up, but he does not

:00:41.:00:49.

start. He was struggling with a ham string problem. And busby doesn't

:00:50.:00:54.

start. So things become a bit easier in this heat. There is Lawrence

:00:55.:01:00.

Clarke. Finished fourth at the Olympics in London. Nicholas Hough

:01:01.:01:09.

from Australia. He is the Olympic youth champion. Another Nigeria

:01:10.:01:21.

combran who is an American convert. He is a former US college yacht

:01:22.:01:30.

champion in lane 5. And Swift from Barbados. And an empty lane 7 where

:01:31.:01:47.

busby was supposed to be and an empty lane where Parchement was

:01:48.:01:57.

supposed to be. Two to go through only automatically, plus the two

:01:58.:02:03.

fastest losers over the three heats. The final tonight.

:02:04.:02:25.

Swift takes it from Clarke. They go through automatically, the time

:02:26.:02:32.

13.58. A through automatically, the time

:02:33.:02:42.

came through at the end. Clarke will be in the Commonwealth Games final.

:02:43.:02:47.

Very pleased for Lawrence. If you remember in 2012, he was in the

:02:48.:02:53.

Olympic final. So domestic running for Clarke is good. In contrast with

:02:54.:02:59.

Andy Turner, he had a very good first hurdle, which set him up well

:03:00.:03:05.

and he could execute his race perfectly. Some good competition

:03:06.:03:08.

from Swift. That is what you want. Just pushing you all the way. Gets

:03:09.:03:14.

out the blocks, reacts well, drives into that first hurdle and pulls his

:03:15.:03:18.

trail leg through. If you can do that and keep it in the straight

:03:19.:03:23.

line, it means you can push yourself directly forward. The impetus you

:03:24.:03:27.

want and you can get your leg speed going makes it easier. The key for

:03:28.:03:33.

all the hurdlers is to keep that leg speed going over the barriers that

:03:34.:03:37.

will make your time much quicker. Well done Lawrence Clarke. He will

:03:38.:03:43.

be pleased. A good run and a good result. That shows the times.

:03:44.:03:53.

Lawrence Clarke safely through to the final. Anti-Turner crashed out

:03:54.:04:13.

out in the first heat. Sometimes you're almost intruding on a private

:04:14.:04:22.

grief. You almost come through in a daze, in a dream and you don't want

:04:23.:04:26.

to have to come through. But you have to. All credit to him. He was

:04:27.:04:31.

honest about what happened. But all he wants to do probably is just get

:04:32.:04:35.

away. Get rid of the emotion of that and try and gather himself and

:04:36.:04:40.

refocus in some way to come back from that. Because it is gutting. It

:04:41.:04:44.

will have knocked the stuffing out of him. It was different in terms of

:04:45.:04:52.

the issue with some of the hurdlers hitting that first hurdle too early.

:04:53.:04:57.

Yes, he caught it with his trail leg foot. It is almost like the hurdle

:04:58.:05:03.

grabs you and takes you out of your stride. It was difficult for him to

:05:04.:05:06.

recover. He crashed through the second and you can see the pain on

:05:07.:05:12.

his face. It is just adding insult to injury. It is such a shame for

:05:13.:05:17.

him. But he will go to the European Championships hopefully. He doesn't

:05:18.:05:21.

seem to be hurt. So hopefully his season will continue. Will Sharman

:05:22.:05:28.

is in the next heat and for him it has been a different sb and --

:05:29.:05:34.

season and something back too his best. Yes he is growing in

:05:35.:05:39.

confidence. That is translating to his performances on the track. So we

:05:40.:05:45.

want to see a nice, smooth passage through these heats, which will help

:05:46.:05:49.

him build on the mope tum he has build up from this great win and how

:05:50.:05:54.

well he ran in Glasgow and then at the anniversary games. This year he

:05:55.:06:00.

has beaten good fields by a long way, but he has not got the time we

:06:01.:06:05.

think he is capable of. But that will come. You can't search for

:06:06.:06:11.

these things. You can see from his flat speed that he is almost there.

:06:12.:06:19.

If he stays relaxed and has a clean hurdles race, that - those times

:06:20.:06:23.

will come. Colin will be watching this, but first over to Steve.

:06:24.:06:32.

COMMENTATOR: Will Sharman would have looked at Brathwaite, a former world

:06:33.:06:40.

champion, and also the name of Wayne Davies, who is ranked No 3 in the

:06:41.:06:50.

Commonwealth, Parchement was not a starter and this opens the way up.

:06:51.:06:57.

Only Riley has run quicker than Sharman of those left and with the

:06:58.:07:01.

form he is in, he must be thinking, he would have been hopeful any way.

:07:02.:07:07.

It will make a huge difference to his mind set and he can think about

:07:08.:07:15.

being positive. Of all the titles available to domestic athletes, the

:07:16.:07:21.

Commonwealth Games and the European Championships, for Will this is the

:07:22.:07:26.

one he can win. The Europeans will be a different level with our

:07:27.:07:36.

Frenchman doing so well. Ryan Brathwaite, who is no relation to

:07:37.:07:42.

Shane Brathwaite, who we saw in the first heat. A former world champion.

:07:43.:07:53.

Will Sharman. Always seeps to produce his best when it matters.

:07:54.:07:58.

That win here in the Diamond League event a couple of weeks ago seems

:07:59.:08:04.

ages ago now, but that must stand him in such good stead. Same Baines

:08:05.:08:10.

of Australia, a former Commonwealth youth champion in 2008. Ogieriakhi

:08:11.:08:37.

from Nigeria is next to him. And Thingalaya from India. His friends

:08:38.:08:41.

call him Sid and I think he is a friend of mine as well! 13.84 his

:08:42.:08:50.

best this year. He is Keetched by Sally Pearson's coach. -- coached by

:08:51.:09:02.

. The top two into the final tonight

:09:03.:09:09.

at quarter to 9. 13. 48 the winning time. That was

:09:10.:09:57.

better from Brathwaite than we have seen this season. Will Sharman is

:09:58.:10:01.

through. You worry when the guy next to you is hitting hurdles and so

:10:02.:10:10.

close to each other. Yes I was anxious. You can see if there was

:10:11.:10:18.

any clashes of arms. But what was good is both are battling into a

:10:19.:10:22.

strong head wind. You take that winning time of 13. 48f they had

:10:23.:10:31.

that as a tail wind, they would be close to 13.1. So they come out of

:10:32.:10:35.

the blocks hard. Let's see if there are any clashes. That seems to be

:10:36.:10:40.

OK. They work hard into the barriers. It is the arms that will

:10:41.:10:48.

cause the problems. They will flay and maybe touch each other. When

:10:49.:10:53.

you're hurdling, you're not used to people being around. I think there

:10:54.:10:57.

was a touch there and you can see that they're keeping each other

:10:58.:11:02.

close and there is another clash and they both ebds up -- end up hitting

:11:03.:11:08.

the hurdle. But nice and strong and it was all about qualification. We

:11:09.:11:17.

have been watching that. Some bumping and elbow clashing, but

:11:18.:11:21.

safely through? Yes through to the business end of the competition now.

:11:22.:11:26.

That is what it is about. So looking foyer ward to tonight. What is like

:11:27.:11:33.

in a race like that where you're trying to put a marker down to your

:11:34.:11:39.

rivals? Well, if you don't take each run seriously, the next one is not

:11:40.:11:43.

guaranteed. I took it seriously. I came out and I wanted to win. Then

:11:44.:11:49.

guaranteed. I took it seriously. I started hooking arms with

:11:50.:11:50.

Brathwaite. As I was trying to go past him, I was getting caught

:11:51.:11:55.

behind his arm. I thought it is not worth risking a fall in the heat we

:11:56.:12:01.

are clearly ahead and I tucked in where I was and ticked over to the

:12:02.:12:07.

finish. But I'm in the final. So it's got to be guns blazing f

:12:08.:12:15.

somebody fires, you fire a bazooka back. England were

:12:16.:12:18.

somebody fires, you fire a bazooka to do well. How does it affect your

:12:19.:12:24.

mind when your rivals have gone? You have got to handle business. I have

:12:25.:12:30.

got a job to do. I like to compete against the best. It is a shame

:12:31.:12:35.

they're not here and I wish them the best. Well done. We will see you in

:12:36.:12:43.

the final. That final tonight at quarter to 9. Brathwaite just

:12:44.:12:49.

getting the nod ahead of Sharman. He will hope they aren't drawn with

:12:50.:12:55.

each other. An interesting qualification. Partly because of the

:12:56.:12:58.

people who didn't line up and then these are the men who will contest

:12:59.:13:07.

the final. Al-Ameen competing four Nigeria -- for Nigeria and making it

:13:08.:13:14.

through. It is all very tight there. Conditions tonight may be a factor.

:13:15.:13:18.

It will be chilly and the wind could be in their face again. Day two of

:13:19.:13:33.

the decathlon continues. This is the event Damian Warner is leading by

:13:34.:13:45.

some 300 points and looking to make his mark in the event. It looks as

:13:46.:13:51.

though he is romping away after being quick out of the blocks

:13:52.:13:56.

yesterday. Takes no risks. Nowhere near the front of the circle. A man

:13:57.:14:00.

who knows he is on a way to only one thing and that is Commonwealth gold.

:14:01.:14:07.

Just the pole vault, the javelin and the 15 hundred metres. -- 1,500

:14:08.:14:18.

metres. John Lane is having a great couple of days. This is not one of

:14:19.:14:24.

his strongest vents. But he knows medals are on offer and he is in

:14:25.:14:32.

contention. A relative newcomer to the event. He has a lifetime best of

:14:33.:14:36.

42 metres. It didn't seem to the event. He has a lifetime best of

:14:37.:14:42.

out of his hand cleanly. A good strike at the front of the circle.

:14:43.:14:47.

Quick through the throw and just chased it out and got a little off

:14:48.:14:58.

balance maybe. 38.96. It is a slight improvement. But this man, this is

:14:59.:15:08.

the man Felix from Grenada, who may just spoil the English party.

:15:09.:15:33.

That is very significant. It is about accumulating

:15:34.:15:38.

That is very significant. It is two days. That is a huge personal

:15:39.:15:47.

best. Great stuff! Well, the hurdles final is set up or

:15:48.:15:55.

this evening. It is wide open. Andy will be even more gutted, if that is

:15:56.:15:57.

possible. He will be really kicking himself.

:15:58.:16:11.

Great for William Sharman, great for Lawrence Clarke. There are medals to

:16:12.:16:13.

be one. Lawrence Clarke. There are medals to

:16:14.:16:16.

be I believe those two could get on the podium. Will Sharman will have

:16:17.:16:22.

his eyes on gold, no doubt about that.

:16:23.:16:29.

Did he get drawn into a race before the final? Of course he did! He

:16:30.:16:37.

wants to be competitive. He wants to stamp his authority. He is saying, I

:16:38.:16:45.

am here, I am ready to win. That says a lot to the rest of the

:16:46.:16:48.

competitors that he is in good shape and he once said. We didn't exactly

:16:49.:16:54.

believe him when he said he eased off! You didn't, did you? I didn't.

:16:55.:17:03.

It is not my event and I would not profess to be an expert, but I think

:17:04.:17:07.

there was a bit of ego going on there. It is important going into

:17:08.:17:15.

the final feeling that you have another gear. To be honest, I think

:17:16.:17:19.

he does have another gear. Very diplomatic, Paul! As always! When we

:17:20.:17:30.

come back we will see David Weir. First, back to Michelle.

:17:31.:17:35.

If you are with us earlier, we showed you the opening stages of the

:17:36.:17:39.

net ball clash between England and Trinidad and Tobago. England went on

:17:40.:17:47.

to win that comfortably. They are on track for a semifinal spot. In the

:17:48.:17:51.

men's hockey, there was a late goal by Simon child that give New Zealand

:17:52.:17:56.

victory over England. England should still qualify. This defeat means

:17:57.:18:03.

that they are now likely to meet Australia in the semifinals.

:18:04.:18:11.

On BBC Three, the swimming heats. This evening there will be some yet

:18:12.:18:16.

gold is on offer. That will be the end of the swimming here in Glasgow.

:18:17.:18:21.

Live by the red button, the gymnastics is just beginning. There

:18:22.:18:27.

are two golds on offer today in the team event. There is a lot more via

:18:28.:18:35.

the BBC website, including Abington and long balls.

:18:36.:18:40.

Back to the athletics! Thanks, Michelle. Lots of stars in action

:18:41.:18:50.

today, David Rudisha, not later. David Weir. We also saw Greg

:18:51.:18:54.

Rutherford in long jump qualification. He qualified very

:18:55.:18:59.

easily with 8.05 metres. He seemed to sign every autograph in the

:19:00.:19:06.

stadium! Eventually, he made it to Phil Jones.

:19:07.:19:11.

Well, job done! I'd came into this saying I would love to get one jump

:19:12.:19:21.

and get into the final. It was called this morning, I was wearing

:19:22.:19:26.

nylon tights just to make sure the muscle stayed warm. From the point

:19:27.:19:30.

of view of the first round, I was happy. Just determined to get out

:19:31.:19:36.

there, get over 7.90 and get myself ready. The last time you were in

:19:37.:19:41.

Glasgow you warmed up but did not compete, you have a niggle. Are you

:19:42.:19:49.

OK? I am! There are always little niggles, but you manage them and

:19:50.:19:52.

hopefully come into the championships feeling as good as you

:19:53.:19:56.

can. I feel confident and happy, which is the most important thing.

:19:57.:20:02.

Unregistered tomorrow and hopefully another good performance. What a

:20:03.:20:05.

reception from the crowd! You must have brought back memories of London

:20:06.:20:15.

2012. Absolutely. It was unreal! It was out of this world. I just want

:20:16.:20:18.

to say thank you to the crowd, they helped hugely. Without them, it does

:20:19.:20:24.

change things. That was incredible. Amazing reception. You can hear how

:20:25.:20:32.

noisy it can get! You were able to give back to the crowd. You were

:20:33.:20:37.

signing autographs after autograph. As I said, the crowd were out of

:20:38.:20:43.

this world. It is always nice to spend a bit of time, try to take a

:20:44.:20:47.

few photographs and things like that. It was a pleasure. I was

:20:48.:20:55.

getting pulled away a lot! I like dew sidestepping Bacchae! It is

:20:56.:20:58.

likely to give back a little bit and I don't think everybody always does

:20:59.:21:03.

that. It is great to get some interaction. It is nice to be

:21:04.:21:07.

involved in that way. It is a great thing. We just saw Andy Turner, one

:21:08.:21:16.

of my best mates, go out and have a torrid time. That is a wake-up call.

:21:17.:21:21.

It is never easy at a major championship. You have to keep your

:21:22.:21:26.

head on, hope fully have a good one. Thank you for talking to us.

:21:27.:21:32.

Let's have a look at the long jump qualifiers. Greg Rutherford leading

:21:33.:21:41.

the way. Very generous with his time, we have to say. I think Samaai

:21:42.:21:54.

could be a real fact in the final. Chris Tomlinson also made it

:21:55.:21:58.

through, but he has had his injury problems. JJ Jegede also managed to

:21:59.:22:04.

scrape through. Those finals are tomorrow evening. We have another

:22:05.:22:07.

guess, Tanni Grey-Thompson. We have the T54 Ontrack coming up

:22:08.:22:31.

soon for the men. Yes, the women's are coming up. I am nervous, I am

:22:32.:22:38.

feeling sick! There is nothing I can do now. Is it worse than competing?

:22:39.:22:44.

We worse. There is nothing I can do to help her. Right now I would

:22:45.:22:51.

rather be on the track them here. She is looking good. She is a teen

:22:52.:22:57.

and one of the most calm athletes I know. She just turned 16 in London.

:22:58.:23:03.

She dealt with it incredibly well. Every athlete works hard but I see

:23:04.:23:05.

She dealt with it incredibly well. her day in, day out. Being that

:23:06.:23:13.

close to her, it is really hard when you are closely involved with an

:23:14.:23:14.

athlete. Qualification, it is three you are closely involved with an

:23:15.:23:21.

plus the fourth fastest, so it shouldn't be too difficult. Shelly

:23:22.:23:27.

Woods, is -- comes up in the second heat will get through no problems at

:23:28.:23:31.

all. It'll be interesting to see how they run the races. It is whether

:23:32.:23:36.

all. It'll be interesting to see how they go out hard early, then go for

:23:37.:23:39.

an easy qualification. It is a they go out hard early, then go for

:23:40.:23:45.

atmosphere. For the athlete, are they enjoying it, is this a

:23:46.:23:51.

distraction with the cried? I think it all is preparation. You know that

:23:52.:23:57.

the crowd are supporting you. It is all good.

:23:58.:24:03.

Jonathan, you have interrupted a singsong! We were jumping up and I

:24:04.:24:19.

that everybody else. It is creating a great atmosphere for Jade Jones.

:24:20.:24:35.

She looks incredibly calm. Dawson-Farrell is from Glasgow. She

:24:36.:24:52.

gets a huge cheer! There is Frimpong, from Gama. Christie Dawes

:24:53.:25:01.

is on the inside. She is getting to the end of her career at 34. She

:25:02.:25:06.

picked up a bronze in the 5,000 metres in London. Here, going in the

:25:07.:25:19.

T54 1500 metres. Diane Roy is the defending champion.

:25:20.:25:26.

A great opportunity for the two youngsters, Jade Jones in

:25:27.:25:31.

particular. She has satellite ready quickly. Shelly Woods will be going

:25:32.:25:38.

in the next heat. The top three will qualify and the fourth fastest will

:25:39.:25:42.

get into the final. Jade Jones has gone into an early lead. Tucked in a

:25:43.:25:54.

little bit further back is Dawson-Farrell of Scotland. I think

:25:55.:26:01.

Jade Jones Dawson-Farrell of Scotland. I think

:26:02.:26:04.

trouble early on, make sure that she was clear. The challenging it is to

:26:05.:26:13.

force her way into the pack. Megan Farrell made a very sensible

:26:14.:26:15.

force her way into the pack. Megan decision to drop back. Jade Jones is

:26:16.:26:18.

a good person to sit behind because she has a good sprint finish.

:26:19.:26:34.

Four of them are already pulling away. Only three will qualify by

:26:35.:26:40.

right. You would have to think that the speed they are setting, there is

:26:41.:26:45.

every opportunity that all four of them will go through.

:26:46.:26:52.

Dawson-Farrell, her dad set up a set of rollers in the front room where

:26:53.:26:56.

she lives so she could do a bit of training there. The record at the

:26:57.:27:10.

games, that is still held by Rory, there is every chance we could see

:27:11.:27:14.

that cool here in the heat. Jade Jones is leading them three 800

:27:15.:27:21.

metres. Tanni Grey-Thompson, she is only 18, but she is shown but she

:27:22.:27:25.

can cope with this kind of situation. Jade shows no fear

:27:26.:27:29.

whatsoever. Interesting, they are just lying

:27:30.:27:46.

Dawson-Farrell to come to the front. This is Megan's moment, actually.

:27:47.:27:55.

They are taking it fairly steady at the moment. This is a wonderful

:27:56.:28:03.

experience for Dawson-Farrell. It'll be a great race for a Megan,

:28:04.:28:07.

probably a personal best. They take the bell. It is

:28:08.:28:12.

probably a personal best. They take leading at the moment. Tucked in

:28:13.:28:19.

behind her is Jade Jones, then Diane Roy. The top three will

:28:20.:28:23.

automatically qualify. A reasonable speed being set here. The Scottish

:28:24.:28:29.

cried are really enjoying this performance from the 21-year-old.

:28:30.:28:32.

cried are really enjoying this Jade Jones has moved through to take

:28:33.:28:40.

the lead. These three start to pull away. Jade Jones is going to try to

:28:41.:28:53.

hang on to the lead. A little bit of testing is being done. Look at the

:28:54.:29:03.

experience of Diane Roy. Dawes is following in her slipstream. These

:29:04.:29:05.

three will qualify fairly comfortably. Let's look at the

:29:06.:29:14.

clock. A new games record in the heats! Those three are safely

:29:15.:29:21.

through. Dawson-Farrell crosses the line in fourth place.

:29:22.:29:25.

through. Dawson-Farrell crosses the fastest loser spots available, I am

:29:26.:29:28.

pretty hopeful that she will be able to go through to the final

:29:29.:29:32.

pretty hopeful that she will be able Thursday. Job done. I'm sure the

:29:33.:29:35.

pretty hopeful that she will be able atmosphere in here will be something

:29:36.:29:36.

that the three of them will have enjoyed. A little bit over the test

:29:37.:29:39.

over the last 300 metres. race. She wasn't pulling the pace

:29:40.:29:53.

too hard. She is good at grabbing on to a wheel. It is quite windy and if

:29:54.:30:00.

you're behind somebody, you can make a difference to the time and energy

:30:01.:30:06.

that is expended. She is very experience doing just what she had

:30:07.:30:12.

to do. And there is plenty more to come from all three women in this

:30:13.:30:27.

race. Well, Tanni, I know - well for both of us, our days have gone, but

:30:28.:30:32.

the chance to compete in this sort of atmosphere is marvellous for Jade

:30:33.:30:39.

Jones. Yes, I can relax now, as somebody involved in her coaching. I

:30:40.:30:45.

felt I was pushing every single step with he:. Shelley Woods in the next

:30:46.:31:00.

heat. But Jade Jones is through. Back to this decathlon. David Guest

:31:01.:31:08.

of Wales. Looking to get among the medals. He is just outside of them

:31:09.:31:15.

at the moment for the Welsh record holder. He is a world junior

:31:16.:31:22.

champion. Now at the age of 22, with a discus best of 43 metres. Anything

:31:23.:31:30.

close to that gives you a chance of accumulating the points across the

:31:31.:31:41.

ten events. Very good, a season's best. 43.14. STEVE CRAM: Roy winning

:31:42.:31:51.

that one as expected. Perhaps as expected. Jade Jones going through

:31:52.:31:59.

and Dawson Farrell with a good performance in fourth. A season's

:32:00.:32:07.

best for Fordjour. Jade is with me after what I would imagine is an

:32:08.:32:11.

amazing moment for you to go around being cheered by this crowd and a

:32:12.:32:17.

Scot in the race as well. Yes, it is the first time I have competed for

:32:18.:32:19.

England. So it was different. the first time I have competed for

:32:20.:32:25.

experienced it at the Paralympic this atmosphere, did it bring back

:32:26.:32:29.

good memories? Yes I have been saying the whole thing reminds me of

:32:30.:32:35.

London. It is good and the crowd's amazing. You're still so young, to

:32:36.:32:41.

have those experiences under your belt will stand you in great stead?

:32:42.:32:50.

Yes I'm still quite young and wheelchair racers don't peak until

:32:51.:32:56.

their 20s. So to make the final is amazing. What do you learn from a

:32:57.:33:01.

race like this, a tactical race? Yeah, the girls raced differently at

:33:02.:33:06.

Paralympics and the Commonwealth Games. It is more tactical and it is

:33:07.:33:10.

kind of getting yourself in the right positions and you learn from

:33:11.:33:16.

each race. Tanni said that you're fearless! I am not so shoor about

:33:17.:33:23.

that -- sure about that. But it was a good race. All the best well done.

:33:24.:33:38.

Thank you. The second of the first round T54 heats with Samantha

:33:39.:33:46.

Kinghorn in this one and beside her Shelley Woods. Both would expect to

:33:47.:34:05.

qualify. What an experience this will be for her. I stress that ten

:34:06.:34:12.

athletes will go through from 14 starting. So qualifying should be

:34:13.:34:21.

comfortable for Shelley Woods and Samantha Kinghorn. Angie Ballard as

:34:22.:34:27.

well from Australia and you would expect them to make it. Shelley

:34:28.:34:33.

well from Australia and you would Woods is the world record holder

:34:34.:34:36.

over this distance. Silver medals from the last two Paralympics. And

:34:37.:34:40.

Tanni watching this, I was from the last two Paralympics. And

:34:41.:34:46.

quote from Steven Miller who said integration isn't the way forward,

:34:47.:34:54.

but it is great for the athletes involved. It is amazing for

:34:55.:34:59.

Commonwealth Games, where you're able to drop in a number of events

:35:00.:35:05.

and it is interesting that canoeing and rowing have integrated world

:35:06.:35:08.

Championships. That is something that would be easy to achieve and

:35:09.:35:14.

quite exciting. Because I think for the fans, they don't differentiate

:35:15.:35:19.

between somebody disabled and not disabled. They just want to see

:35:20.:35:24.

great racing. One of things in wheelchair racing is when they're

:35:25.:35:28.

crashes and people are moving each other in and out in a way you can't

:35:29.:35:34.

do in running. And spectators love that. For those watching Athletic

:35:35.:35:39.

lets for the first time, morning sessions are not supposed to have

:35:40.:35:44.

crowds like this. You go around the world and morning sessions are

:35:45.:35:50.

sparsely attended. We saw at the London Olympic what is can happen

:35:51.:35:53.

with crowds and we are seeing it again in Glasgow. We're just about

:35:54.:36:02.

ready. It is a longish hold on the start. The T53s are racing here as

:36:03.:36:22.

well. But perhaps for Tanni to explain the differences. Well the

:36:23.:36:31.

T53 has no stomach or lower back Mus ms and a T54 does. The difference it

:36:32.:36:37.

makes is on the start. You're not able to hold your body down in the

:36:38.:36:44.

same way. At 1,500 metres and above, even races together, because it is

:36:45.:36:51.

deemed there is so little difference. Once you get up to top

:36:52.:36:56.

speed there is no differentiation. Does that affect a change in speed,

:36:57.:37:02.

if somebody puts in a kick to get the acceleration going? It can do in

:37:03.:37:07.

terms of if there is a lot of repetitive kicking. I was a T53 and

:37:08.:37:12.

used my head and arms to lift my body. If you look at Samantha

:37:13.:37:18.

Kinghorn, her knees are higher than some of the T54 athletes, because

:37:19.:37:25.

she uses the knees and the seating cage to act ass a support to help --

:37:26.:37:31.

to act as a support to help her. So she may get a better top speed if

:37:32.:37:36.

her niece were lower, it would have a big effect on how she is can get

:37:37.:37:43.

away from the gun. A big noise for Shelley Woods. The head phones being

:37:44.:38:06.

put to good use in this noisy Hampden Park. The second heats in

:38:07.:38:16.

the first round. Three to go through automatically and the four fastest

:38:17.:38:19.

losers to the final on Thursday night. A bit of weak sunshine

:38:20.:38:27.

filtering through as an give Ballard takes it -- Angie Ballard takes the

:38:28.:38:50.

lead. The noise will carry these athletes all the way around the

:38:51.:38:53.

track. Shelley Woods is athletes all the way around the

:38:54.:38:59.

in third. Explain some of the tactics here? Shelley Woods is in a

:39:00.:39:13.

safe place and doesn't want go go to the front. They will hit the front

:39:14.:39:20.

of the chair, that is the compensator that takes them around

:39:21.:39:24.

the bends. They will have an opportunity to set the chairs and it

:39:25.:39:28.

is crucial they get that right. Especially at the change in speeds

:39:29.:39:35.

and the wind can affect it. It is crucial you get this right. Because

:39:36.:39:45.

if you don't you can clip the kerb. Samantha Kinghorn out in front and

:39:46.:39:49.

the crowd enjoying this. Her personal best she was set in Bedford

:39:50.:39:54.

in June. But just 18 years old and plenty to come. She is having a look

:39:55.:40:00.

around and asking perhaps for others to come through. Yes, Sammy Kinghorn

:40:01.:40:07.

has only been racing two year, she op broke her back in 2010. So she

:40:08.:40:15.

has a fast PB. But that was in a paced race. She doesn't have the

:40:16.:40:19.

experience of the tactics. But this is slower. They're taking it very

:40:20.:40:24.

steady and going for safe qualification. Three go through

:40:25.:40:31.

automatically. And not as quick as the first heat and they're really

:40:32.:40:38.

slowing down as Angie Ballard looks around. They're all doing the maths,

:40:39.:40:43.

saying three from five. Shelley Woods, the big talent, the world

:40:44.:40:48.

record holder, in the middle of the pack. It is a very slow pace. You

:40:49.:40:57.

look at the time in the first one we are not going to be on that now. But

:40:58.:41:01.

the crowd want to see a race and they will see a burn up on the last

:41:02.:41:10.

lap. Sammy Kinghorn deciding to hit the accelerator a bit. And they come

:41:11.:41:16.

to the final lap and we stress just three from this top five will go

:41:17.:41:27.

through automatically. Shelley Woods hanging on to the back of Angie

:41:28.:41:33.

Ballard. We suspect they may begin too lift away. The noise, which has

:41:34.:41:37.

been tremendous for the morning session, rose again and here comes

:41:38.:41:43.

Shelley Woods on the outside. Takes her past Angie Ballard and Sam

:41:44.:41:48.

Kinghorn and a look inside and testing her pace for greater

:41:49.:41:53.

challenges to come in the final. Angie Ballard easing her way past

:41:54.:41:58.

Sam Kinghorn. But Kinghorn looks like she is going to hang on to

:41:59.:42:06.

third and automatic qualifying. Shelley Woods showing us what she

:42:07.:42:11.

can do, as if they needed reminding. She takes it just outside four

:42:12.:42:13.

minutes. Samantha Kinghorn goes She takes it just outside four

:42:14.:42:20.

through in third. A steady race and nothing too spectacular. But Shelley

:42:21.:42:25.

Woods with plenty left in the tank. No doubt about that. Shelley Woods

:42:26.:42:36.

again doing just what she had to do, Tanni? Yes I may have expected her

:42:37.:42:42.

to take it out earlier to test the others. But when you see her

:42:43.:42:47.

accelerate, she lifts her elbows very high and drives strongly

:42:48.:42:54.

through. In the last couple of months Shelley's acceleration has

:42:55.:42:59.

improved. At the final she will have to go harder and quicker. She does

:43:00.:43:05.

haven't the sprinting that Angie Ballard has and she will have to

:43:06.:43:09.

work harder to reach the podium on Thursday. Mohammed was squeezed out

:43:10.:43:19.

to fourth and she will have wait to see if she qualifies for the final

:43:20.:43:28.

as the fastersest lose -- fastest loser. Shelley Woods you suspect my

:43:29.:43:35.

be the athlete too beat in the final. But of course Diane Roy and

:43:36.:43:42.

Dawes and Jade Jones looked very strong in the first heat. They're

:43:43.:43:52.

just enjoying the atmosphere. The final is on Thursday night. So a

:43:53.:43:54.

couple of days to recuperate. final is on Thursday night. So a

:43:55.:43:59.

Weir is going in a little while of that? When she had to, she found

:44:00.:44:44.

a bit of extra speed. That was a consummate performance

:44:45.:44:52.

through to the final. Let me ask you about the atmosphere and how you

:44:53.:44:58.

enjoyed it? It is fantastic out here. It is amazing to have the

:44:59.:45:04.

opportunity to race here. I think they give support for everybody, but

:45:05.:45:09.

especially for England the support is amazing. There are a lot of

:45:10.:45:16.

people supporting all of the racers, which is brilliant. How did that

:45:17.:45:23.

risk all for you? It was good. I am happy with that. It is happy to blue

:45:24.:45:31.

-- I am happy to blow away the cobwebs of it. I think the big

:45:32.:45:37.

contenders are in the other heat. I think the final will be very

:45:38.:45:42.

competitive. Will you be in medals? That is what I am going for! Thank

:45:43.:45:48.

you for talking to us. Thank you. A full house at Hampden Park.

:45:49.:45:57.

Jessica Ennis-Hill has said that Reggie, he is her new baby, are

:45:58.:46:05.

enjoying watching the athletics. Day one of the heptathlon. Well,

:46:06.:46:10.

actually, he is fast asleep. As parents, we say enjoyed those

:46:11.:46:12.

moments of peace and quiet. Up on track next is arguably the

:46:13.:46:24.

greatest Paralympic athlete of all time. David Weir. We have been to

:46:25.:46:33.

meet him. You had fallen out of love with the

:46:34.:46:39.

Paralympics after your first experience. I was training aid not.

:46:40.:46:49.

I just lost the love of it. I wasn't impressed with the whole movement,

:46:50.:46:52.

the Paralympic movement. I didn't think there would be a future in it.

:46:53.:46:59.

Racing in Atlantic, there were probably more people sitting down

:47:00.:47:02.

beside the swimming pool than there were in the whole stadium. I trained

:47:03.:47:07.

for a bit when I got back, then I just didn't want to do it any more.

:47:08.:47:13.

That is four gold medals for Tanni Grey-Thompson!

:47:14.:47:18.

It was watching Sydney and Tanni Grey-Thompson. Yes, it was, watching

:47:19.:47:24.

Tanni Grey-Thompson and the team doing so well, I was bitterly

:47:25.:47:30.

disappointed in myself. I felt like I had let down a lot of people. I

:47:31.:47:36.

said to myself, I will get back into the sport. I didn't know what I was

:47:37.:47:41.

going to do, but afterwards I got the chair right and slowly got back

:47:42.:47:46.

into it. Driving him on is somebody that he has known since he was eight

:47:47.:47:51.

years old, Jenny Archer, who he turned to in 2002 since taking a

:47:52.:47:57.

break from the sport. I asked what he really wanted to do. He said, I

:47:58.:48:03.

want world records, gold medals, I want to be number one in the world.

:48:04.:48:09.

I thought, I can't let this guy down. He had so much talent. He just

:48:10.:48:19.

needed someone there to give him an extra push. He came and asked for

:48:20.:48:23.

help and I have been working with them ever since. It has been

:48:24.:48:28.

phenomenal for me to be by his side all these years. Are you now

:48:29.:48:33.

impressed with how things have changed? Yes. I think London was

:48:34.:48:39.

such an amazing experience, not just winning all the gold medals.

:48:40.:48:42.

Underneath the stadium as we were going in, they already had said that

:48:43.:48:48.

the tickets have sold out, but you still have the dyke, have they

:48:49.:48:55.

really? I looked up and all I could see was the top layer -- they have

:48:56.:49:04.

all sold out. I've just had a big smile, we have done it! You have all

:49:05.:49:09.

those incredible memories. Do you draw on them? Of course. You think

:49:10.:49:14.

of what you have done and that drives you on. I still have a few

:49:15.:49:20.

challenges left. If I didn't have that, I probably would have retired.

:49:21.:49:27.

I still have goals that I want to achieve.

:49:28.:49:33.

What does it mean to you when a child comes up to you and tells you

:49:34.:49:39.

that you are their hero? You get little clips on the Internet with

:49:40.:49:47.

people saying, my child is sitting on a skateboard and he thinks he is

:49:48.:49:51.

David Weir. Those kids don't care that you are in a wheelchair. It

:49:52.:49:58.

gives you a happiness and joy at being recognised for what we do. We

:49:59.:50:05.

are athletes. Yes, we might Bush machine, but it takes a lot of

:50:06.:50:09.

effort to do and I think the kids realise that. -- push a machine.

:50:10.:50:18.

From the start days, he has blossomed into a stunning athlete.

:50:19.:50:29.

He was amazing as a junior athlete. He didn't believe that he was as

:50:30.:50:33.

good as everybody else thought he was. We are all telling him, you can

:50:34.:50:38.

be number one in the world. He was so disillusioned by Atlanta. We are

:50:39.:50:50.

so happy that Sydney triggered him back in again. Even in Athens he was

:50:51.:50:55.

still saying, I am not sure I can be number one in the world. After

:50:56.:50:59.

Athens, and massive jump up and performance. -- in performance.

:51:00.:51:12.

He can push themselves harder in training than most people I know.

:51:13.:51:17.

Tactically, he is really astute. Until he believed that, whatever you

:51:18.:51:23.

said to him, he just didn't get. His partnership with Jenny Archer is

:51:24.:51:30.

amazing. She knows him Inside Out. She knows how to encourage him,

:51:31.:51:37.

cajole him. David is very selective in the racers that he does so in

:51:38.:51:42.

those races he has to do well. She brings out the best in him. Where do

:51:43.:51:53.

you think is mindset is? Real will be a very different games. In

:51:54.:51:58.

London, we got the Paralympics. Because of the TV coverage people

:51:59.:52:03.

came to watch. I am much we will have that in real. He absolutely

:52:04.:52:11.

can't get there and win gold medals. It is whether he feels it is enough

:52:12.:52:23.

of a push for him. The silver bullet from Switzerland, that will sharpen

:52:24.:52:29.

his mind. Let's jump back to the stadium to

:52:30.:52:35.

catch up with some Horsfield. We are moving back to the discus,

:52:36.:52:40.

the seventh of the ten the capital on events. This is Ashley Bryant.

:52:41.:52:46.

Some of the contenders for the medals have already throw in. You

:52:47.:52:51.

can get amongst them. Well, it was high. An awkward flight. We can

:52:52.:53:02.

improve on that. Good power. He did not get his hand into the right

:53:03.:53:08.

position at release. He showed too much of the discus to get the flight

:53:09.:53:14.

required to send it out to serious distances. He just wanted to get one

:53:15.:53:21.

in. This man, Lindon Victor, is a very good discus the law. He is a

:53:22.:53:36.

50-metre discus thrower. His pole-vault is almost nonexistent.

:53:37.:53:48.

His javelin is good also. These guys know that the minor medals are still

:53:49.:53:55.

up for grabs. That is a game is best for him. -- games.

:53:56.:54:14.

We are just getting ready for the first heat of the T54 1500 metres.

:54:15.:54:22.

Everyone is huddling together for warmth. It is a wonderful setting,

:54:23.:54:31.

wonderful atmosphere. We are just waiting for the athletes. A bit of a

:54:32.:54:34.

delay. We will head back to the field.

:54:35.:54:55.

So, Jessica has a link -- Jessica Zelinka. Well clear.

:54:56.:55:07.

Early stages, but the English athletes know that the bronze medal

:55:08.:55:15.

is up for grabs if they put together a good performance.

:55:16.:55:22.

is up for grabs if they put together there. 1.57 metres.

:55:23.:55:42.

Jessica Taylor now. Her first attempt. They are

:55:43.:55:54.

Jessica Taylor now. Her first each other. Quite an unorthodox

:55:55.:55:54.

technique. Went very wide and each other. Quite an unorthodox

:55:55.:56:04.

came back. A huge clearance. Clean so far.

:56:05.:56:12.

I think we have worked out why we are waiting for the start of the T54

:56:13.:56:24.

1500 metres. The Kenyan athlete briefly left the stadium. I believe

:56:25.:56:30.

some of the athletes here are briefly left the stadium. I believe

:56:31.:56:40.

the same chairs as athletes from a previous race. They might have to

:56:41.:56:49.

swap the wheels. A long wait for David Weir and the rest. You can see

:56:50.:57:01.

Richard Colman beside David Weir. He goes for Australia. Josh Cassidy, he

:57:02.:57:13.

has gone close to three minutes, as well. He won the 2012 Boston

:57:14.:57:21.

Marathon. There is Richard Nicholson. He got a bronze medal in

:57:22.:57:29.

2012. Boateng, off-camber. There is one

:57:30.:58:04.

T53 in this race, and there he is, Richard Colman. He was a champion in

:58:05.:58:13.

Athens and London at T53. Let's listen to the noise for David Weir.

:58:14.:58:24.

This kind of atmosphere, that is what keeps him going after all he

:58:25.:58:28.

has already done in the sport. Six Paralympic golds. He will have no

:58:29.:58:44.

problems in this heat. Three go through automatically, plus the

:58:45.:58:48.

fourth fastest losers go through to the finals. David Weir just looking

:58:49.:59:00.

out to Josh Cassidy, who will take it out. Looking at the four men

:59:01.:59:10.

there, they are of the standard athletes here. Only three will go

:59:11.:59:20.

through automatically. I think they will like it to be a fairly quick

:59:21.:59:25.

race, just so if they finish out of the top three they will still have a

:59:26.:59:31.

chance of getting through. Tanni Grey-Thompson, they should be

:59:32.:59:39.

comfortable for David Weir. The first lap was, I think it is fair to

:59:40.:59:45.

say, sedate. Josh Cassidy is more of a road specialist. You can see that

:59:46.:59:52.

it looks as if they are having a bit of a chat. Josh doesn't seem to want

:59:53.:59:57.

to take the lead. Richard Colman is the one they seem to want at the

:59:58.:00:05.

front. He is a dangerous athlete. He does have a devastating pick-up and

:00:06.:00:09.

sprint finish. I think they are trying to tire him out and make it

:00:10.:00:12.

more difficult for him to think about qualifying.

:00:13.:00:19.
