slices across the posts but it doesn't matter. -- the conversion.

:00:00.:00:09.

New Zealand, perhaps, unbeatable? We can say it for the umpteenth time,

:00:10.:00:14.

New Zealand have still not lost a match in the Commonwealth Games

:00:15.:00:18.

ever. DJ Forbes absolutely instrumental as we said he would be.

:00:19.:00:22.

There is something impenetrable about them. It was not flash but it

:00:23.:00:29.

did not need to be. They did what they needed to do. The contact, the

:00:30.:00:34.

last two days, it has been in contact when New Zealand have been

:00:35.:00:39.

the best team in competition. This is wanting that we have got that

:00:40.:00:46.

highlighted exactly how good they are in contact. Australia get out

:00:47.:00:56.

here. They try and take on Pat Lam. Bang, turnover ball. From that, New

:00:57.:01:01.

Zealand went away and scored the turnover try. They know that when

:01:02.:01:08.

they have to create an offside line, there is somebody there who will try

:01:09.:01:13.

a half a break, uncertain of what they are going to do, there is no

:01:14.:01:20.

support. New Zealand will come in and clear them out. There is a clear

:01:21.:01:24.

structure to the way that they play. When they make the tackle, they know

:01:25.:01:28.

that they are creating an offside line for the opposition to have to

:01:29.:01:33.

go back. Is it churlish to say that they do not have much flair but they

:01:34.:01:38.

are the ruthlessly efficient. I think that is a competent. They

:01:39.:01:43.

haven't got the players that they had in the past like Jonah Lomu but

:01:44.:01:51.

they have seven guys that work incredibly hard for each other and

:01:52.:01:55.

they make good decisions and stay in contact with their support running.

:01:56.:01:59.

They have players on a one-to-one who can beat people. Webber, Kaka,

:02:00.:02:09.

brilliant. How do you feel your team is playing at the moment? The

:02:10.:02:13.

Aussies are a pretty good side to get one over on them we are pretty

:02:14.:02:19.

pleased. Obviously, our first game this morning was pretty tough. We

:02:20.:02:22.

are pleased to get through to another final. How tired are you by

:02:23.:02:29.

this stage of a competition? The body is pretty sore. At this stage

:02:30.:02:33.

it is more mental than physical. We just need to get ourselves up. It is

:02:34.:02:41.

a world record crowd for sevens over two days, 200,000 people. As it felt

:02:42.:02:48.

special to you? Yes, this is by far the loudest crowd we have ever

:02:49.:02:53.

played in front of. The stadium, the people, and awesome crowd to play in

:02:54.:02:56.

front of and it is really helping the boys. Samoa or South Africa?

:02:57.:03:06.

Don't you care? We just need to focus on our recovery and gain

:03:07.:03:09.

control and make sure it is a good final. The one thing that he

:03:10.:03:17.

mentioned was it is not physical, it is mental. Mental toughness is what

:03:18.:03:22.

they are always good at. They don't want to be the first New Zealanders

:03:23.:03:27.

to lose a game at the Commonwealth Games. We have just been talking

:03:28.:03:33.

saying that you do not want to be the first New Zealander to lose a

:03:34.:03:36.

sevens match in the Commonwealth Games. Is that driving you an? Every

:03:37.:03:44.

time we play Australia it is a trans-Tasman rivalry. We always get

:03:45.:03:48.

up for it. We had a great performance. Are you going to watch

:03:49.:03:53.

this dispassionately? Who would you rather play in the final? I don't

:03:54.:03:59.

think it really matters. They are both huge teams, physical, really

:04:00.:04:07.

fast. Whoever wins, we are going to have to step it up a little. Here we

:04:08.:04:14.

go, South Africa against Samoa. Real speed from South Africa, real

:04:15.:04:19.

physicality from the men in blue. For the right to play New Zealand in

:04:20.:04:22.

the final of the Commonwealth Games sevens. COMMENTATOR: Asifaamatala

:04:23.:04:38.

with the headband. He is supported by Afa Aiono. Kyle Brown making the

:04:39.:04:48.

tackle on Afa Aiono. He got injured in Hong Kong with a concussive

:04:49.:04:57.

injury. Missed out on the final tournament of the IRB world sevens

:04:58.:05:01.

series at Twickenham but he returns to captain the squad in the

:05:02.:05:03.

Commonwealth Games and certainly a big influence. Branco du Preez with

:05:04.:05:14.

the tackle. Plenty of space down the near side. Lio Lolo up to the 22,

:05:15.:05:25.

super tackle by the sweeper Cecil Afrika. Afa Aiono. Tries to play

:05:26.:05:39.

football. Tupou will have the throw. Cecil Afrika has scored over 100

:05:40.:05:53.

tries, a brilliant player. Lolo Lui on the outside. Samoa breaking

:05:54.:06:04.

through. Samoa Toloa, his eighth try of the weekend. The South African

:06:05.:06:11.

defence has been splintered. Splintered? More like ripped apart.

:06:12.:06:19.

Gaping holes through the midfield. Just a lack of urgency. The whole

:06:20.:06:25.

South African approach to the defensive line. We just see here, we

:06:26.:06:37.

know about the speed of Toloa, he picked a nice line. South Africa

:06:38.:06:46.

caught by the short side again. That is a great run and a great try. A

:06:47.:06:55.

perfect start for Samoa. Tupou with the restart. Doesn't find the ten

:06:56.:07:04.

metres and ad vantage is played because Karl Brown has picked up the

:07:05.:07:10.

ball for South Africa. Seabelo Senatla to Cornal Hendricks. A bit

:07:11.:07:21.

of a hike tackle from Samoa Toloa. He is not back ten there surely. The

:07:22.:07:25.

referee is going to blow his whistle surely. Very physical at the

:07:26.:07:35.

breakdown, the Samoans. This tie is in the balance in terms of the

:07:36.:07:39.

physicality of Samoa alongside the speed and precision of South Africa.

:07:40.:07:44.

However sallow will be matched by South Africa in the physicality

:07:45.:07:54.

stakes. -- Samoa will be. A lot of movement. Usually in the hands of

:07:55.:08:01.

Cecil Afrika, will they pick the right option? Francis Horne takes it

:08:02.:08:11.

in. A wonderful try from Cornal Hendricks. That was beautifully

:08:12.:08:16.

crafted. Absolute precision from the training field to the playing field

:08:17.:08:21.

here. As a defensive line, you have to keep chasing from the inside. It

:08:22.:08:28.

might have been a line ball. From the wide channel, look at that for

:08:29.:08:32.

players within five metres of South Africa. They have worked hard enough

:08:33.:08:38.

of the ball. Supporting the player of the ball. Unfortunately, you need

:08:39.:08:44.

to three players on the inside of the ball here because they are going

:08:45.:08:49.

to come at you nonstop. All square between Samoa and South Africa. As

:08:50.:08:56.

we see, the ball into the hands of Cecil Afrika. Inside, a big coal has

:08:57.:09:05.

already opened up. Getting across way too easy. That is training

:09:06.:09:15.

ground stuff. A high kick off taken by Samoa. Leave the half-backs

:09:16.:09:29.

alone. A big tap and go by Tupou. The pass on the outside, there is a

:09:30.:09:37.

flag out here but we are playing on. Toloa. Up to the halfway line.

:09:38.:09:55.

Reupena Levasa looking to spring. Did you see that incident? I only

:09:56.:10:03.

saw the reaction. Talk of a kick on the referee's Mike. I didn't see

:10:04.:10:08.

exactly what happened really concise. Number two. Walk away,

:10:09.:10:17.

please. There was a bit of holding on the player. As he walked away, he

:10:18.:10:23.

lashed out with the boot. Did he pick him? Make contact with his

:10:24.:10:29.

boot? A kick to the body is a kick. Sounds like a red card. Is that

:10:30.:10:41.

accurate? Blue number two, yellow card. Unnecessary use of the boot on

:10:42.:10:51.

a player. A fat Iona is sent to the bench. -- Afa Aiono. Power play for

:10:52.:11:04.

South Africa. They have got seven players. It was a knock-on from a

:11:05.:11:17.

Samoan hand. They went for the same setup on the set play again. Opting

:11:18.:11:23.

for a different option. Switching back around the blindside. Getting

:11:24.:11:28.

away from the summer when defenders, thankfully, from a Samoan

:11:29.:11:33.

viewpoint. They are hanging on now because I do not know how you defend

:11:34.:11:42.

these three threats in the ground. On the right of your picture, you

:11:43.:11:48.

can see Branco du Preez feeding the scrum. Cornal Hendricks on the

:11:49.:11:52.

outside. As he got the pace to go wide? Samoa Toloa with an excellent

:11:53.:12:01.

tackle. Playing the ball on the ground. Cecil Afrika has a go. This

:12:02.:12:07.

is Christopher Dry. Into the contact. Cornal Hendricks is going

:12:08.:12:11.

to have to play scrum-half. Samoa kick the ball. Oh dear, it is going

:12:12.:12:22.

to be yellow. Kicking the ball out of the ruck. Cornal Hendricks did

:12:23.:12:40.

very well. I thought he should have moved the ball. It means that South

:12:41.:12:46.

Africa are up to a lead here. That was the first play of the first half

:12:47.:12:52.

with a convergent to come. It is a well deserved lead, whether or not

:12:53.:12:54.

with a convergent to come. It is a well deserved lead, whether or it is

:12:55.:12:56.

well taken, five against seven on this situation. They couldn't stop

:12:57.:13:04.

him. Disastrous final two minutes of the half for Samoa. Two yellow cards

:13:05.:13:15.

in succession. Branco du Preez with the additional two point. Still it

:13:16.:13:19.

is only one try and they are right in this. In 15 aside if you lose a

:13:20.:13:38.

player for ten minutes, you can cope, but not in seven aside. For

:13:39.:13:45.

one minute there will only be five on the pitch, which is incredible.

:13:46.:13:56.

But I think O'Brien makes some wrong calls. The referee had to see it as

:13:57.:14:03.

he called it. They said foul play, and he didn't see. You won't be

:14:04.:14:20.

aware of this at home but there is something called the case camera in

:14:21.:14:30.

the stadium. -- kiss camera. I think we have missed the moment of truth!

:14:31.:14:39.

A little snob. As the players resume for the second half, Samoa, I don't

:14:40.:14:45.

know how long they will be down to 54, but what do you do? -- how long

:14:46.:14:56.

they will be down to five for. You do everything because you cannot

:14:57.:15:04.

defend five against seven, especially against an attacking side

:15:05.:15:08.

like South Africa. The next few minutes will be crucial for Samoa.

:15:09.:15:16.

Still in it, that is the thing. This will go very quickly. As we said

:15:17.:15:24.

yesterday, these matches can turn in the blink of an eye. And there is

:15:25.:15:29.

only one score in it. The winner of this plays New Zealand in the final.

:15:30.:16:03.

Stretching the Samoan defence. Christopher Dry runs towards the

:16:04.:16:12.

posts. We have seen some scintillating tries here and that

:16:13.:16:16.

has been one of the best today. The pass from Cecil Afrika. That is

:16:17.:16:20.

absolute power. The vision, pass from Cecil Afrika. That is

:16:21.:16:24.

strength. He has taken out four players were on the Samoan defence.

:16:25.:16:30.

He keeps on working. Into the hands of Christopher Dry on the outside.

:16:31.:16:35.

Powerful running, power rugby, quality rugby. This South African

:16:36.:16:38.

team, when they turn it on, they are very hard to stop. On Carnes

:16:39.:17:11.

Faalemiga Selesele. -- on comes. It looks like the two best teams from

:17:12.:17:15.

the World Series will be meeting in the Commonwealth Games final in

:17:16.:17:22.

Glasgow. In the history of the World Series, Samoa have scored 367 tries

:17:23.:17:27.

and South Africa 523. But Samoa were still have five

:17:28.:17:39.

minutes on the clock and that is plenty of time in a game of sevens

:17:40.:17:41.

to turn this around. Look how quick Kyle Brown got up.

:17:42.:18:26.

Great from South Africa. Look at the support on the inside. Stand up if

:18:27.:18:29.

you are watching at home! This is great play. Cecil Afrika! It is just

:18:30.:18:37.

the innate understanding that they have on this team. This is

:18:38.:18:44.

absolutely brilliant, textbook rugby. Two guys clean out. He uses

:18:45.:18:49.

therefore is to get the ball back on their side. Then it is about

:18:50.:18:55.

support. The players working for each other. Cecil Afrika with the

:18:56.:19:02.

big slam down. Definitely in the goal area and another seven points

:19:03.:19:07.

for South Africa. When you think Samoa are threatening to get back in

:19:08.:19:12.

the game, what do great teams do? Put you under pressure and South

:19:13.:19:15.

Africa have done that superbly tonight. What a display so far. When

:19:16.:19:27.

a cook comes in off the bench, he made his debut in 2013. -- Kok. He

:19:28.:19:41.

has always done something special on the pitch when he comes off the

:19:42.:19:42.

bench. What did I say? There is always

:19:43.:19:57.

something that happens when Kok gets his hands on the ball. Very good.

:19:58.:20:07.

First touch, one try, thanks for coming! First with a left foot and

:20:08.:20:13.

then the right. That is why we call it rugby football.

:20:14.:20:20.

Totally dominant second-half performance by the South African

:20:21.:20:39.

side here. The two Samoan yellow cards, even if they had had a full

:20:40.:20:47.

complement, the way that South Africa are controlling this ball, it

:20:48.:20:52.

has got to be admired. That is the keyword. This game is all about

:20:53.:20:55.

control, controlling the ball and possession. It is so easy with the

:20:56.:20:59.

ball in hand. I have not mentioned the Samoan

:21:00.:21:24.

coach. We have seen a change in the way Samoa have played this

:21:25.:21:28.

tournament, maybe building bridges. There he is.

:21:29.:22:06.

We still have 30 seconds left on the clock and Samoa are giving it

:22:07.:22:21.

everything. He ran into a blind alley then, Seabelo Senatla. Bundled

:22:22.:22:29.

into touch. Samoa going for the attack to finish the game with a

:22:30.:22:31.

flourish. Turnover ball. Warm applause echoes

:22:32.:22:49.

around Ibrox. That is Warren Whiteley. That wry smile on the left

:22:50.:22:57.

of your picture. The youngster has come into this squad from the Bolden

:22:58.:23:07.

Lions. He played in 2011. No risks need to be taken by South Africa.

:23:08.:23:13.

Take the ball and kick it out. Easy on the late tackles! We are

:23:14.:23:14.

finishing the game. rugby year. They will go towards the

:23:15.:23:24.

gold Samoa will play Australia in the

:23:25.:23:50.

bronze match. Confirmation that South Africa in control, winning by

:23:51.:23:54.

35 points to seven. Goodness me, that was much more

:23:55.:24:05.

emphatic than we might have thought. South Africa were awesome. That is

:24:06.:24:08.

the most complete performance we have seen in the whole tournament.

:24:09.:24:11.

They go into the final against New Zealand, who have never lost any

:24:12.:24:18.

game. But I think South Africa might be the best team. It is very

:24:19.:24:24.

difficult against the New Zealand side. They have tremendous

:24:25.:24:30.

individuals and that pace. South Africa are very sharp and they do

:24:31.:24:35.

something out of nothing. The structured physicality of the New

:24:36.:24:43.

Zealanders, they will plan it. The Titans will know which way to beat

:24:44.:24:46.

this South African side. It will be a fascinating final. A battle

:24:47.:24:52.

between flair and efficiency, and the flair comes from South Africa

:24:53.:24:57.

and not New Zealand. Very unusual. That has won so many tournaments

:24:58.:25:03.

over so many years. They have the tactical magician with Gordon to get

:25:04.:25:11.

them through it. We have the best two teams in the Commonwealth Games

:25:12.:25:14.

rugby sevens contesting the final and that is a good thing. We have

:25:15.:25:20.

four matches left. The junior finals will between Trinidad and Tobago and

:25:21.:25:23.

the Cook Islands. Then Wales will play England and we will show you

:25:24.:25:25.

that match at 8:38pm. play England and we will show you

:25:26.:25:31.

bronze level match with Samoa. There is a bronze medal that is at stake

:25:32.:25:34.

and you want that on your is a bronze medal that is at stake

:25:35.:25:38.

mantelpiece. That was a bit of a thumping that Samoa got and you

:25:39.:25:42.

wonder how they will take it? They will have less time to recover than

:25:43.:25:46.

Australia so that will have an influence. I just think the final

:25:47.:25:52.

could be a fantastic game of rugby. They play in the World Series, but

:25:53.:25:57.

on this occasion there is a Commonwealth gold medal at stake.

:25:58.:26:00.

And that had something special to it. It will be a fantastic final

:26:01.:26:05.

with two great sides. If the camera can look at the touchline, you can

:26:06.:26:10.

see the South Africans having a long and serious gathering. This is a big

:26:11.:26:17.

moment for them. What is the time difference? A couple of hours

:26:18.:26:21.

ahead. The final will be after midnight in South Africa but there

:26:22.:26:25.

will be a huge television audience for that. I should mention that

:26:26.:26:28.

Glasgow high school playing Dundee high school in the hiatus between

:26:29.:26:35.

the finals. At one of these two is a former pupil from Dundee. I don't

:26:36.:26:41.

know which! They had a fantastic end to the season and they played in the

:26:42.:26:48.

tournament really well. There are rewards was to play in front of

:26:49.:26:53.

45,000 at Ibrox and that is great for both sides. Lovely idea. Let's

:26:54.:26:58.

have a chat with Cecil Afrika. Great name first of all, but fantastic

:26:59.:27:06.

rugby player, too. Inspiration for this South African team, driving

:27:07.:27:09.

them into the final of the Commonwealth Games sevens against

:27:10.:27:14.

New Zealand. Lovely to meet you. How do you feel you are playing at the

:27:15.:27:33.

moment? Lovely to meet you. South Africa against New Zealand is always

:27:34.:27:38.

special. It has mostly been them but sometimes you, where do you think

:27:39.:27:45.

the balance of power is tonight? It is a lovely and unique game. We are

:27:46.:27:54.

going to go out there and do our best. A gold medal is at stake. We

:27:55.:28:01.

are looking forward to it massively. Thank you. South Africa for you in

:28:02.:28:13.

the final? I am going to go to South Africa. I am going to stick with New

:28:14.:28:18.

Zealand. We were hoping it would build up to that if we couldn't have

:28:19.:28:22.

a home nation in the final. Don't miss it later tonight. Thank you

:28:23.:28:31.

very much. It has been wonderful entertainment at Ibrox. The gold

:28:32.:28:36.

medal match will be on BBC1 at 9:30pm. A warm welcome to BBC

:28:37.:28:41.

Three's coverage of the Commonwealth Games. Thanks to Lee McKenzie for

:28:42.:28:49.

the last few hours. So much to come between now and ten o'clock. Plenty

:28:50.:28:59.

more of the fast-paced rugby sevens as we bring you the plate final and

:29:00.:29:07.

the bronze medal match. The squash has reached the semifinal stage. We

:29:08.:29:12.

will bring you the best of the action as Laura Massaro takes on

:29:13.:29:20.

Jane Walters. The home nations are once again in the ring. Rhys

:29:21.:29:24.

McFadden and Charlie Edwards. We will speak to Zoe Smith about her

:29:25.:29:30.

gold medal in the weightlifting and that celebration. Here we are, based

:29:31.:29:41.

on the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow, as we are well and truly

:29:42.:29:47.

into the evening session of day four of Glasgow 2014. These are the

:29:48.:29:52.

friendly games, they are also the interactive games where you can

:29:53.:29:57.

watch any sport. There are 14 live streams available for you. These are

:29:58.:30:02.

the pick of them. All of the best swimming will be on BBC1 including

:30:03.:30:07.

Fran Halsall and Liam Tancock going for gold. It is semifinal time in

:30:08.:30:15.

the squash. We will be bringing you that shortly but it is in full

:30:16.:30:21.

online. England V India right now on the red button. The semifinals of

:30:22.:30:29.

the mixed team badminton. Also on the red button it is England V India

:30:30.:30:32.

in the men's team semifinals of the table tennis. If you have been glued

:30:33.:30:41.

to any of the sports on view here at the Commonwealth Games, you might

:30:42.:30:46.

want to take part. All the information is on the website.

:30:47.:30:58.

Talking of inspiration, you do not have to look much further than

:30:59.:31:02.

20-year-old weightlifter from England Zoe Smith. Four years ago

:31:03.:31:08.

she bagged a bronze in Delhi. Since then she has carried the weight of

:31:09.:31:13.

expectation out of the gym. When she closed in on gold last night, it was

:31:14.:31:17.

great to see that she did disappoint. -- didn't disappoint.

:31:18.:31:32.

COMMENTATOR: Zoe Smith for England. A very speedy lift. She dominated

:31:33.:31:46.

it. Three kilograms entry up to 92. Didn't hold it for very long but she

:31:47.:31:57.

did get it. 92 kilos! What she needs is a good lift here. This will do

:31:58.:32:07.

nicely. Almost. That is OK, she has a very strong clean and jerk. She is

:32:08.:32:17.

a great text. She is a great tweeter. She's probably tweeting to

:32:18.:32:23.

her fans right now and it is what gets her in the zone. Zoe Smith on

:32:24.:32:29.

112 kilos. This is to go straight into the lead. Zoe Smith right now

:32:30.:32:40.

is really in the drivers seat. She is putting the pressure on all of

:32:41.:32:46.

the other lifters. She is throwing that bar over her head no problem.

:32:47.:32:56.

This is where she loves to be. Zoe, right now going for a record.

:32:57.:33:00.

Certain that she has got the gold medal. This for the icing on the

:33:01.:33:10.

cake. Yes! What a great way to finish the day! Zoe Smith is

:33:11.:33:24.

champion of the Commonwealth. Great scenes. As you can see, Zoe Smith

:33:25.:33:30.

joins me now. How do you reflect on that? It is the first time I have

:33:31.:33:36.

watched more than three seconds of my competition. Great feeling. I was

:33:37.:33:40.

obviously very happy as you can tell by the jumping and face. Watching it

:33:41.:33:48.

back is for me. Amazing on so many levels. You just lifted 18 stone and

:33:49.:33:55.

then you left yourself through the last couple of seconds with the

:33:56.:33:59.

weight above you. You clearly knew that it was yours at that moment. I

:34:00.:34:06.

have done 118 kilos in training before and in competition I knew I

:34:07.:34:11.

could do it. It was just making sure I got a safe lift in to break the

:34:12.:34:17.

record and get the gold. When I held it above my head and I was still in

:34:18.:34:22.

there, I thought I have got it, I couldn't put it down, I was so

:34:23.:34:28.

relieved. You started in gymnastics. Hence the backflip. Gymnasts would

:34:29.:34:35.

probably have something to say about it. Yes, I used to be about I used

:34:36.:34:44.

to be a pretty bad gymnast. A failed gymnast as I like to say. I was

:34:45.:34:51.

training at a gymnastic club in south east London, Kent kind of way.

:34:52.:34:58.

The way they got me into the weights was because they said I wouldn't get

:34:59.:35:04.

in with gymnastics but I might with weightlifting. It was a throwaway

:35:05.:35:08.

line at the time but it has come true. I have got a Commonwealth

:35:09.:35:12.

Games gold medal, what more could I want? Have you peaked at 20? I

:35:13.:35:21.

really hope I haven't. I want to go on and do a lot more in my career.

:35:22.:35:28.

Next to the Gold Coast and I hope to be in my peak at Tokyo in 2020,

:35:29.:35:35.

strength wise. It is all to go really. What was going through your

:35:36.:35:41.

mind when you were on the podium with the flags being raised and

:35:42.:35:47.

everybody cheering you on? It took me back to school days. They were

:35:48.:35:51.

playing Jerusalem and I was humming under my breath and it took me back

:35:52.:35:55.

to being back at grammar school, where I was not so long ago sitting

:35:56.:36:00.

in assembly having to sing Jerusalem. It made me a little bit

:36:01.:36:05.

emotional, reminding me of the whole journey I have been through. It was

:36:06.:36:14.

just really emotional. You started at 16 in the Delhi Commonwealth

:36:15.:36:18.

Games. What made you start in weightlifting to begin with? Like I

:36:19.:36:23.

said, I was a failed gymnast and they used this line to get me into

:36:24.:36:28.

the gym to have a go at weightlifting. They needed someone

:36:29.:36:35.

for the London youth games. As a girl. You needed to have two boys

:36:36.:36:44.

and one girl. I was always very powerful and good at tumbling. But I

:36:45.:36:48.

never had the grace and flexibility to be a good gymnast. I thought I

:36:49.:36:53.

would give it a go. It could play to my strengths. My mother used to be

:36:54.:36:59.

very involved in martial arts. She likes strength sports and stuff. I

:37:00.:37:04.

thought I might be good at it and gave it a go and really enjoyed it.

:37:05.:37:10.

You are a laid-back character. You have a nickname from your trainer.

:37:11.:37:19.

It is becoming my middle name. After Pablo Lara. He was a Cuban

:37:20.:37:24.

weightlifter. My coach said he had seen a video of him in a hammock

:37:25.:37:30.

between sets and getting up and doing a phenomenal lift and then

:37:31.:37:34.

going back for a snooze. It is the approach I like to take in training.

:37:35.:37:42.

What are you going to be doing now? I am going to carry on supporting my

:37:43.:37:47.

team. Every girl in my room has finished today. We are just going to

:37:48.:37:53.

hit up the food hall. It is 24 hours for free food. We are just going to

:37:54.:37:59.

leave here three stone heavier than when we came. Other than that, I am

:38:00.:38:03.

going to try to see as many sports as I can. I really want to get down

:38:04.:38:09.

to the athletics. If anyone has a spare ticket, let me know.

:38:10.:38:15.

Everybody, a round of applause. We have got a gold medallist in our

:38:16.:38:20.

midst. Let's bring you some squash action now here on BBC Three. The

:38:21.:38:25.

first women's semifinal took place today. It was between the top seed

:38:26.:38:31.

Nicol David and Joelle King of New Zealand. It was Nicol who reached

:38:32.:38:46.

another world final. We can bring you now the second semifinal which

:38:47.:38:53.

was an all English affair between Alison Walter and Laura Massaro who

:38:54.:39:07.

is the current world champion. If you were to describe squash to

:39:08.:39:10.

somebody who doesn't really know the sport, how would you describe it?

:39:11.:39:17.

Chess at 1 million miles an hour. It is fast, furious and hard work.

:39:18.:39:23.

Endurance, technical work. The reason I love to play squash is that

:39:24.:39:29.

it has so many different aspects to the game. That is the aspect of my

:39:30.:39:36.

sport but I love to play. This is your second Commonwealth Games. Just

:39:37.:39:43.

describe your experience? I was planning for what I was at the time,

:39:44.:39:52.

I was eighth in the world. I went on to win silver with my doubles

:39:53.:39:58.

partner Jenny Dunn calf. We will be playing together this time around.

:39:59.:40:04.

We will be trying to do a lot better in both events. You have really gone

:40:05.:40:10.

from strength to strength in the last year or so. It has been a

:40:11.:40:17.

phenomenal year for me. Four years ago in Delhi, if you would have said

:40:18.:40:22.

I'd be going in as world champion and world number two, and number two

:40:23.:40:25.

seed for the individual event, I probably wouldn't have believed you.

:40:26.:40:32.

It has been an amazing year. I never thought I would have won the title

:40:33.:40:36.

is that I have. I want to take it in my stride as much as I can and keep

:40:37.:40:46.

improving all the time. In Delhi, you were 26. Now you are 30. How

:40:47.:40:54.

come you are a better player now? I have no idea. Part of me thought it

:40:55.:41:00.

was never going to happen. My career was always a success but I wanted to

:41:01.:41:04.

hit the pinnacle and try to become world number one. To win a world

:41:05.:41:12.

open, to hit those targets is amazing. You didn't experience

:41:13.:41:20.

London 2012 like a lot of your team-mates. Is this London for you?

:41:21.:41:28.

It is definitely our Olympics. In terms of medals and everything you

:41:29.:41:33.

can achieve. Squash is very strong as a Commonwealth is to. A lot of

:41:34.:41:38.

players in the world are going to be at the games in Glasgow. That is

:41:39.:41:44.

going to be something extra special. You are doing something on a world

:41:45.:41:48.

level, not just a Commonwealth level. It makes it harder to win but

:41:49.:41:58.

it makes it more prestigious. So to the all English battle. Laura

:41:59.:42:05.

Massaro against Alison Walters. They are reaching the conclusion of the

:42:06.:42:22.

second game. COMMENTATOR: Here it comes. She has got the stroke. She

:42:23.:42:58.

is not impressed. 11-11. She can choose where she is going to serve.

:42:59.:43:04.

I think she thought the score was wrong and that she was in the lead

:43:05.:43:08.

having got the stroke. I think that was the confusion. She just saved

:43:09.:43:16.

the game, the video review helped her saved the game.

:43:17.:44:03.

Well, she could have played the ball. It looked like she had plenty

:44:04.:44:12.

of room. It is so important. No wonder we are getting plenty of

:44:13.:44:18.

lets. The crowd feel for Laura. You can understand that. Game ball

:44:19.:44:20.

again. Third time. Excellent rally from Laura! Great

:44:21.:44:57.

control. Game point down, you really have to hold your nerves and that

:44:58.:45:00.

was a really great rally from Laura Massaro.

:45:01.:45:25.

Missed it! A real surprise. Unusual for Laura. We have had the whole

:45:26.:45:42.

gamut of emotion here. Fourth game point now for Alison Waters.

:45:43.:46:05.

She has got it! There is going to be a video review. It is not over.

:46:06.:46:22.

Video review on the stroke decision towards us. It went against Laura

:46:23.:46:28.

Massaro the last time. Can you get back to the court for the video

:46:29.:46:33.

review? She is going back but with no racket. I assume she thinks the

:46:34.:46:35.

decision will be upheld. Well, they were all smiles when they

:46:36.:46:50.

came on court, two women who know each other very well, but they are

:46:51.:46:55.

fighting like demons now and you can understand it. Stroke was the call

:46:56.:47:05.

given. I will be amazed if it is changed but you never know.

:47:06.:47:12.

There it is. And it is one game each. 14-12 to Alison Waters. One

:47:13.:47:34.

game all. Quite a thrilling and full of controversy. So many lets and a

:47:35.:47:39.

couple of strokes given at the end. We are at one game each.

:47:40.:47:55.

Well, she was looking out played at the start of that game, six - one.

:47:56.:48:04.

Laura will be kicking itself because she was in total control of the

:48:05.:48:07.

match and now she is right in the middle of a game.

:48:08.:48:45.

Well, Laura Massaro was in total control at one stage and she has

:48:46.:48:52.

rested that control away. One of the England coaches was saying to Alison

:48:53.:48:56.

that she can't go out there and blasted. She has to do it in

:48:57.:49:02.

patches, consolidate, then go hard again and consolidate. Build on the

:49:03.:49:06.

game that way instead of trying to win it flat out. We will see if she

:49:07.:49:13.

is able to do that. But Laura Massaro in total control of the

:49:14.:49:17.

first game and the first half of the second game. I kind of felt it was

:49:18.:49:22.

make or break for Alison, she had to get stuck in, go for some shots, mix

:49:23.:49:33.

up the match ibid. -- a bit. There was in two straight or different

:49:34.:49:38.

about her game and she when mixed things up, it took Laura Massaro out

:49:39.:49:42.

of her groove and then the match got interesting. She needs to do the

:49:43.:49:47.

same again. She can't afford to keep going in going drive, drive, drive.

:49:48.:49:53.

She has two throw some more shots in and that will make the difference.

:49:54.:50:06.

-- she has to throw. I can't imagine things will be very different in

:50:07.:50:10.

game number three. It will be fascinating to see how Alison Waters

:50:11.:50:13.

plays this. I think it will only get more feisty. Both of these girls

:50:14.:50:19.

will want to get through to the gold and silver medal match. To lose now

:50:20.:50:30.

is a real blow. Water is fourth in Delhi, the worst possible place to

:50:31.:50:43.

be. -- Waters. Laura Massaro was one place behind and now the favourite

:50:44.:50:44.

at one game all. The best of five. Yes, Laura Massaro waiting and

:50:45.:51:51.

waiting to hit her shop. Get her out of position. Very effective. Good

:51:52.:51:55.

start after the disappointment of losing the second game.

:51:56.:52:03.

How many rackets would she take courtside? Probably five or six, I

:52:04.:52:26.

would think. In a match you can break two or three strings. None are

:52:27.:52:31.

broken and I think she must have cracked the head of the racket. You

:52:32.:52:36.

can lose tension then, so you need to change straightaway. But five or

:52:37.:52:42.

six rackets, depending on the player. Same tension? Everything

:52:43.:52:46.

will be the same, the grips and the strings.

:52:47.:53:04.

Perhaps a little lucky to get away with that little let. Second best in

:53:05.:53:52.

the rally. She is getting opportunities in the

:53:53.:54:16.

front court, Alison Waters, and not able to take them. It is easy to say

:54:17.:54:21.

from here why does she miss them? But the pressure is on. She wants to

:54:22.:54:26.

get their head and is trying to take the opportunities that is playing

:54:27.:54:32.

too tight. -- get ahead. She needs more leeway.

:54:33.:54:49.

Stroke to Laura Massaro. Appeal. Video recording. She had better be

:54:50.:55:03.

right to make the appeal so early on.

:55:04.:55:20.

Well, very similar to the one we had before. I would be surprised if it

:55:21.:55:26.

is changed. The original decision was stroke and

:55:27.:55:54.

it stays that way. Alison Waters has no reviews remaining. 6-0.

:55:55.:56:17.

Well played. Little glance back to see where Laura Massaro was and a

:56:18.:56:22.

beautiful shot into the corner. Massaro playing with a lot of

:56:23.:57:07.

confidence, playing more smoothly. She is pushing up the court. It is

:57:08.:57:11.

noticeable when a player takes charge. It is looking for the

:57:12.:57:19.

opportunity, which ultimately opens up the court.

:57:20.:58:18.

Brilliant shot. Interesting. It was a superb kill. But no appeal.

:58:19.:58:39.

Brilliant shot. Interesting. It was go for the net? She is. This is

:58:40.:58:52.

terrific from Massaro now. She is playing with a lot more confidence.

:58:53.:59:13.

Great running by Laura. Stroke to Massaro. Yes. It is a bit of a

:59:14.:59:23.

shame. It is a great rally but Laura looking for that one. She could have

:59:24.:59:33.

played the shot at any time. Unfortunately, Alison is in her

:59:34.:59:39.

swing and it is her stroke. She knows the game. She knows what the

:59:40.:59:51.

officials might do. First error for a long time. Walter 's supporters

:59:52.:00:01.

are starting to get a little bit more animated.

:00:02.:00:51.

Is this a squash match or a boxing match, I wonder. She is over egging

:00:52.:01:01.

the pudding. There was no need for a push quite like that. I think a bit

:01:02.:01:08.

of frustration on Alison's part. That really was a show. Not

:01:09.:01:16.

necessary, really. Seven game points. -- really was a shove. Laura

:01:17.:01:47.

Massaro reasserts herself here. It is a big start and she never

:01:48.:01:52.

relinquished it. She goes to her chair leading 2-1. She really was in

:01:53.:01:58.

charge for most of that game. Exactly. I think she went back on

:01:59.:02:03.

court after losing her second knowing her game plan and she stuck

:02:04.:02:11.

to it. Much more positive. She is just going to disappear and change

:02:12.:02:16.

her shirt. Much more positive. More aggressive on the ball. Looking for

:02:17.:02:23.

the opportunities again. In the second game she was laying back a

:02:24.:02:28.

bit. She was allowing Alison to dominate a bit more. To take

:02:29.:02:42.

advantage of the T. Whereas this time she was prepared to push Alison

:02:43.:02:49.

back and make the most of the opportunity. More assertiveness in

:02:50.:02:53.

that game. She became a bit tentative in the second game.

:02:54.:02:58.

Possibly, a bit of pressure creeping in that second game cost her a few

:02:59.:03:03.

points. In that third game, she really was on the money. She knew

:03:04.:03:08.

what she was trying to do. She just implemented it to the letter. Really

:03:09.:03:16.

good fence. Her defence was really good as well. Tight to the wall.

:03:17.:03:21.

That makes all the difference if you do not give your opponent the

:03:22.:03:29.

angles. The moment you put those into play, you are in all sorts of

:03:30.:03:35.

troubles. You have to negate those angles. Keep it nice and deep and

:03:36.:03:39.

then when you open up, jump on it and take your opportunity. It was

:03:40.:03:45.

that kind of balance that she was displaying so well in the third

:03:46.:03:56.

game. So the number two seed, just a game away from her first final in

:03:57.:04:01.

the Commonwealth Games. First singles final. She has got to the

:04:02.:04:31.

doubles final. Runners-up with Jenny Duncalf in Delhi in 2010. This would

:04:32.:04:36.

mean so much to her. She has achieved so much. Waters, how is she

:04:37.:04:44.

going to turn this around? Has to show some of the form she showed

:04:45.:04:48.

when she really took hold of that second game.

:04:49.:05:22.

Again, so tight to the wall. No let given. I just feel that Alison is

:05:23.:05:33.

far more consumed with not getting a let or a situation that is going on

:05:34.:05:39.

on court rather than focusing on her game and concentrating on what she'd

:05:40.:05:44.

need to do to win the match. She is slightly angry about the things that

:05:45.:05:49.

are not important as opposed to the things that are.

:05:50.:06:08.

are not important as opposed to the defence. That is one of the things

:06:09.:06:14.

that Laura has really improved on. Her mental attitude. She's really

:06:15.:06:19.

good, even when she has had a bit of a blip. She doesn't play the next

:06:20.:06:25.

point like she has had a bad point prior to that. She really does

:06:26.:06:29.

concentrate. I think that has been a really big improvement in her game.

:06:30.:06:38.

She is clasping at straws asking for let's like that, Alison Waters. Her

:06:39.:06:46.

whole body language is very different to the way she started the

:06:47.:06:51.

match. Shoulders down. She is trying to pep herself bouncing up and down.

:06:52.:07:05.

This is racing away from her now. Laura Massaro has total confidence.

:07:06.:07:40.

Sporting. Making the decision that the ball wasn't up before the

:07:41.:08:10.

officials. But it is 6-0. Oh yes. Love that. Great shot. She came back

:08:11.:08:22.

from 6-1 down in the second game and won it. Can't see it happening this

:08:23.:08:26.

time around but that was good. Total deception. Often when you are

:08:27.:08:40.

playing that well, luck goes with you. Well, it does. I think at the

:08:41.:08:47.

moment Laura Massaro is in total control. I cannot see Alison coming

:08:48.:08:53.

back from this. She doesn't look positive enough to me. Disappointing

:08:54.:08:59.

to see that she doesn't seem that positive about the fact that she is

:09:00.:09:11.

still in the match. It has got to be now or never. No need to go for

:09:12.:09:26.

those shops. I don't think so. It is difficult. 7-2. She is only four

:09:27.:09:33.

points away. She smells the winning line and it sometimes gets the

:09:34.:09:38.

better of you. She has just got to stay focused and keep under control.

:09:39.:09:53.

Alison is just not happy at all. She is a picture of frustration at the

:09:54.:10:19.

moment. Well, that looked great. It is nice to see her attacking.

:10:20.:10:24.

Sometimes, when you feel you are down and out of a match, you kind of

:10:25.:10:32.

just let go and relax and just play. Really, that is what she needs to

:10:33.:10:42.

do. Nearly a nasty moment. Ideal boast from Massaro. Well, it was a

:10:43.:10:58.

great shot by Laura. How lucky was that? Oh dear. A complete mis-hit.

:10:59.:11:05.

She could not have placed it any better. She could do with all the

:11:06.:11:10.

help she can get at the moment, so that is a good way. Lovely. So here,

:11:11.:11:25.

five match points. For a place in the final. It did look out. Stop!

:11:26.:11:47.

The ball was out. We called it out. After Alison Waters had appointed

:11:48.:11:54.

that it was out. I think it was out. They were rather late calling it. It

:11:55.:12:13.

was a close one. Well played. Hanging in there. That is just the

:12:14.:12:20.

kind of play we have been calling for. In the front court. If she is

:12:21.:12:24.

going to get back into this match, it is what she has to do. Take the

:12:25.:12:32.

opportunities when they are there. Cannot let them go. An appeal.

:12:33.:12:53.

I think probably it was a let. In the general scheme of things, the

:12:54.:13:03.

way this has been going, you think it probably was. A bit ambitious

:13:04.:13:06.

thinking she could get in front there. I think so. A couple of feet

:13:07.:13:17.

away from a side ward, not -- sidewall, not clinging to one so

:13:18.:13:27.

probably a let ball. And if she doesn't get it, the match is over.

:13:28.:13:31.

It is that important. Is she hanging on? Yes. Decision upheld. Yes, let.

:13:32.:13:53.

No doubt about that one. It is getting very tense here.

:13:54.:14:32.

Yes, not enough width that time from Massaro and three match balls have

:14:33.:14:42.

been saved. You wonder whether or not the nerves are coming into play

:14:43.:14:43.

from Laura. It is Laura Massaro who goes through

:14:44.:15:19.

to the final. She will play Nicol David in the final. The numbers one

:15:20.:15:22.

and two seeds will contest the final.

:15:23.:15:30.

Well done to Laura Massaro, the defending World Champion, through to

:15:31.:15:32.

the Commonwealth final where she will battle for gold of course. We

:15:33.:15:38.

are back at Pacific Quay just outside BBC Scotland where the bases

:15:39.:15:44.

for Glasgow 2014. BBC Live divides all kinds of entertainment. We have

:15:45.:15:54.

had Simple Minds. And we have these guys all the way from South Africa.

:15:55.:16:00.

You perform soul, Jazz, R, and traditional songs from South

:16:01.:16:05.

Africa, do you? Yes, all kinds of styles and our music. We do not box

:16:06.:16:11.

ourselves in one genre. We are versatile in terms of genre. Are you

:16:12.:16:17.

taking in the vibe of the Commonwealth Games? Very much. South

:16:18.:16:21.

Africa have just scored right now. Very nice. What have been your

:16:22.:16:28.

highlights? You have been here for three months. Yes, quite some time.

:16:29.:16:33.

One of the highlights was performing here on stage. The crowd was very

:16:34.:16:39.

lively. And you have more performances to come between now and

:16:40.:16:44.

September. Yes, we are performing at the fringe, from the first to the

:16:45.:16:49.

25th. We are performing at our main venue and if you want to come and

:16:50.:16:50.

see us, you will be amazed. OK, venue and if you want to come and

:16:51.:16:55.

amaze us now with a rendition of your finest. All right!

:16:56.:17:15.

At Kelvingrove, Natalie Melmore was hoping to retain her singles title

:17:16.:17:36.

in lawn bowls for England just hours before her 25th birthday but it was

:17:37.:17:40.

not to be because Jo Edwards won by 21 to 15.

:17:41.:17:51.

Time to bring you some boxing now from the SECC. The fight took place

:17:52.:17:57.

earlier today. Reece McFadden of Scotland has his eyes on a medal in

:17:58.:18:03.

his home Games. He completed a major upset in the last round by dispatch

:18:04.:18:07.

in one of the favourites for Commonwealth gold, Andrew Selby of

:18:08.:18:13.

Wales. He was taking on Charlie Edwards of England in the flyweight

:18:14.:18:14.

division. Here we go, the first of the

:18:15.:18:23.

scheduled three three-minute rounds. The flyweight division. Charlie

:18:24.:18:33.

Edwards competing in his first bout of the contest having received a bye

:18:34.:18:40.

into the second round. His opponent is 19-year-old Reece McFadden.

:18:41.:18:43.

Waging war immediately, getting through a good right jab. It will be

:18:44.:18:52.

interesting to see if Reece McFadden employs the same tactics as he did

:18:53.:18:57.

against Selby. He seemed to wait for him to strike and caught him on the

:18:58.:19:01.

way out. Clever tactics from the young Scotsmen. Whether he will do

:19:02.:19:05.

that against Charlie Edwards, who has a different style, remains to be

:19:06.:19:15.

seen. Reece McFadden having a success with his forward forays. He

:19:16.:19:20.

has turned orthodox momentarily. He is having success with the jab. Just

:19:21.:19:35.

over a minute gone in the opening round.

:19:36.:19:49.

Edwards was stalking flat-footed for a few moments. Those boxes looking

:19:50.:20:11.

for openings, plenty of feinting. Edwards is just waiting, probably

:20:12.:20:16.

waiting for the Scots to come in on the front foot so he can do the

:20:17.:20:21.

countering. Both men reigning champions of their respective

:20:22.:20:27.

nations. Good shot to the body countered immediately by a shot to

:20:28.:20:32.

the head from Edwards. McFadden to the national title earlier this year

:20:33.:20:35.

and Charlie Edwards did the same thing in Liverpool in a high quality

:20:36.:20:39.

contest, as good as I have seen in recent years, against Jack Bates.

:20:40.:20:43.

Nip and tuck all the way with Edwards, who came out on top, and

:20:44.:20:48.

that was crucial for securing his passage through to this tournament

:20:49.:20:52.

to where the English best in the flyweight division. -- to wearing

:20:53.:21:08.

the English vest. He is not used to boxing so unorthodox. McFadden has

:21:09.:21:11.

two watch what he is doing. The crowd are behind him but he is

:21:12.:21:18.

making mistakes. Closing stages of this opening round. An exchange to

:21:19.:21:23.

end the round between the two. Edwards pleased with his work,

:21:24.:21:28.

pumping his right fist. Quite a close round to score. I think they

:21:29.:21:32.

will be fairly pleased in the blue corner. Reece McFadden coming

:21:33.:21:43.

forward. Deep. Not too bad. This is another angle. Three shots going in

:21:44.:21:50.

from McFadden. Towards the end of that round, starting to make his own

:21:51.:22:00.

work. A close one to score. Both men have had moments of success but all

:22:01.:22:05.

three judges favoured McFadden over Charlie ages. Mike Keenan issuing

:22:06.:22:11.

instructions. Into the second round we go. Reece

:22:12.:22:25.

McFadden, the reigning national champion, has taken the opening

:22:26.:22:29.

round in unanimous passion over his English counterpart. On the

:22:30.:22:36.

Frankfurt from the Scottish man. Having some success from his forward

:22:37.:22:39.

forays. -- on the front foot. The left hand was more correctly

:22:40.:22:56.

thrown from McFadden in that exchange. Edwards is just 21 but in

:22:57.:23:02.

2011, his first senior national tournament, he... Good response from

:23:03.:23:13.

the crowd for that. He took a European championship bronze medal,

:23:14.:23:17.

with a terrific movement from the junior to the senior ranks, and

:23:18.:23:20.

coming away with that bronze medal in Turkey. That was that light

:23:21.:23:32.

flyweight 49 kilograms. When McFadden is fighting against the

:23:33.:23:34.

majority of his opponents, he gives away height and reach but he does it

:23:35.:23:38.

well. He crouches back and waits for his opportunity. Edwards is

:23:39.:23:47.

struggling to establish that jab. Trying to lead of the jab and then

:23:48.:23:50.

go back to his opponent and it is not quite happening yet for Charlie

:23:51.:23:55.

Edwards. This is his first bout in the Commonwealth Games. McFadden has

:23:56.:24:03.

experienced this atmosphere before, an atmosphere which Charlie Edwards

:24:04.:24:07.

will embrace, but he has got to find his rhythm and timing.

:24:08.:24:17.

McFadden with the advantage of having a bout under his belt. Into

:24:18.:24:26.

his rhythm. Left hand from Edwards, that single jab was not too far

:24:27.:24:33.

away. McFadden switching to the orthodox. I think Edwards has got to

:24:34.:24:44.

apply more pressure here. McFadden is comfortable sitting back and

:24:45.:24:48.

waiting. He is picking off the English man with those shots, mainly

:24:49.:24:51.

because he has been given the room and space to do that, and the time.

:24:52.:24:56.

We need a change of tactics from Edwards. He has two up the tempo and

:24:57.:25:04.

put his opponent under pressure. In the closing seconds of this round,

:25:05.:25:15.

just over the top. The two boxers separated. Working to the body and

:25:16.:25:20.

the referee allowing him to do so. Edwards likes what he did but smiles

:25:21.:25:24.

on the face of Reece McFadden as well because he got some double shot

:25:25.:25:35.

success. Successful with ones and twos. He went for him a little bit

:25:36.:25:42.

but here he is waiting and waiting too long. That allows McFadden to

:25:43.:25:47.

score. And on that exchange again with that left hand. He is happy at

:25:48.:25:51.

the end of that round. Another close one. I am not going to argue with

:25:52.:26:00.

that, all going for McFadden. Two rounds completed and both have gone

:26:01.:26:05.

in the favour of Reece McFadden, in a good position as we wait for the

:26:06.:26:12.

bell for the third round. Letting Charlie Edwards note the status.

:26:13.:26:14.

Going to have Charlie Edwards note the status.

:26:15.:26:23.

this third and final round. We move into round three. Charlie Edwards

:26:24.:26:31.

trailing 2-0. He takes a hard left hand as the referee tries to come

:26:32.:26:38.

between them to issue instructions about punching correctly. First and

:26:39.:26:45.

third from Edwards was lovely. The jab, the range finding. Just moved

:26:46.:26:50.

out of range again and brought his opponent onto a long left hook. He

:26:51.:27:00.

needs more of that, does Edwards. The year when he won the bronze

:27:01.:27:04.

medal at senior level, Reece McFadden was emanating that feat as

:27:05.:27:11.

junior, getting a junior championship bronze. More roaring

:27:12.:27:17.

from the crowd but their heads are clashing at close quarters. A bit

:27:18.:27:22.

scrappy and they have to watch that. Nobody wants to sustain a cut.

:27:23.:27:27.

Good from McFadden once more. The decibel level is beginning to

:27:28.:27:37.

rise in the SECC with cries of Scotland, Scotland, drowning out

:27:38.:27:41.

everything else. A sizeable English contingent here as well. That is

:27:42.:27:52.

better from Edwards. The first round has dictated the tactics for the

:27:53.:28:03.

next two rounds. Charlie's father is in attendance here. I had a

:28:04.:28:07.

conversation with him and he said that he was feeling good. He is in a

:28:08.:28:13.

difficult position because he has conceded the opening two rounds and

:28:14.:28:17.

the clock is ticking down. Reece McFadden has boxed very well.

:28:18.:28:25.

Keeping out of harms way and having success in the exchanges with his

:28:26.:28:30.

vast counters. Edwards is trying to close the distance. He is difficult

:28:31.:28:36.

to get to, McFadden. He stays back and then he comes in with very fast

:28:37.:28:41.

counters. It is a very difficult style to box against. Inside the

:28:42.:28:58.

final 30 seconds. Edwards remaining patient trying to fashion an opening

:28:59.:29:04.

but the clock is in favour of the Scotsman. That is much better work

:29:05.:29:12.

from Edwards. A furious exchange to conclude this third round. But as

:29:13.:29:20.

the bell sounds, both boxers raise their arms immediately. Rhys

:29:21.:29:27.

McFadden took the opening two rounds in unanimous fashion. You see his

:29:28.:29:34.

pensive face. I suspect they think their man has been eliminated.

:29:35.:29:45.

Charlie Edwards has come up against an inspired Reece McFadden. We will

:29:46.:29:49.

go to the score cards but I suspect that Edwards has not done enough to

:29:50.:29:56.

turn it around. A scrappy display by both boxers. I think Edwards should

:29:57.:30:01.

have applied more pressure. The counters from McFadden have been the

:30:02.:30:11.

difference. Ladies and gentlemen, a fantastic opening contest. Let's

:30:12.:30:14.

hear it for both boxers this evening. The winner by unanimous

:30:15.:30:23.

decision, into the quarterfinal, in the blue corner, Reece McFadden!

:30:24.:30:36.

19-year-old Reece McFadden has pulled off what must be considered

:30:37.:30:42.

another upset. He has beaten a Great Britain representative for the

:30:43.:30:45.

second time in these Commonwealth Games and he takes a well-deserved

:30:46.:30:52.

bow to the fans who are cheering his accomplishments in hearty fashion.

:30:53.:30:57.

Reece McFadden has beaten Charlie Edwards on a unanimous decision.

:30:58.:31:02.

Team McFadden are delighted because their boxer is one bout away from a

:31:03.:31:07.

bronze medal. Charlie Edwards eliminated, conceding the first two

:31:08.:31:14.

rounds in unanimous fashion. Edwards had enough -- McFadden had enough in

:31:15.:31:25.

the tank to get him over the line. Here in front of his home fans. That

:31:26.:31:31.

was an amazing fight for you. It was. It was hard but I battled on

:31:32.:31:45.

and I won't. I don't know why he thought he was going to win the

:31:46.:31:50.

fight. Can I ask you who you thought won the fight? I don't think anyone

:31:51.:31:56.

thought that you didn't win. It was a good fight. I really enjoyed it. I

:31:57.:32:00.

am just going to enjoy the next one and the next one until I go on and

:32:01.:32:06.

win the gold medal. The opening two rounds must give you a lot of

:32:07.:32:10.

confidence. I am confident every time I get in the ring. I guess that

:32:11.:32:14.

there must be something wrong with me. Keep it going. Reece McFadden

:32:15.:32:25.

through to the next round. We have moved indoors. It has started to

:32:26.:32:31.

rain. We are in the hub of the Commonwealth Games. We want you to

:32:32.:32:38.

get in touch, showing us your Commonwelfies. You can go to the

:32:39.:32:46.

website or our Facebook or Google pages. I don't think that the Daleks

:32:47.:32:52.

have got the right idea. We want to see you enjoying our coverage of the

:32:53.:32:58.

Commonwealth game. Amy Young has sent this in, enjoying a glass of

:32:59.:33:08.

wine while enjoying the rugby. Lisa was enjoying the action at Glasgow

:34:17.:34:20.

Jack Oliver is going for gold in the weightlifting which is currently

:34:21.:34:26.

online in full. It has been a busy day in the rugby sevens over at

:34:27.:34:31.

Ibrox. There was the unusual sound of the Ibrox draw for both England

:34:32.:34:36.

and Wales, along with England and Scotland they fail to get beyond the

:34:37.:34:41.

quarterfinal stage. England and Wales have a final chance in the

:34:42.:34:45.

plate final. Let's go over there now and join the commentary team. It is

:34:46.:34:58.

the nature of sevens competition that once you have lost you go into

:34:59.:35:04.

a lesser competition. It is part of the culture and the ethos of rugby.

:35:05.:35:11.

Irrespective of anything else it is England against Wales and there will

:35:12.:35:18.

be an edge. There always is a bit of an edge. Both teams will be bitterly

:35:19.:35:23.

disappointed not to be in with a chance of a medal. But it is a

:35:24.:35:28.

fantastic atmosphere, the last game of the tournament for these lads

:35:29.:35:32.

giving it everything. Lots of English fags, -- flags. I just hope

:35:33.:35:44.

that they throw the ball around and have a really exciting game. Wales

:35:45.:35:55.

are the underdogs on world rankings. A very interesting game coming up.

:35:56.:36:00.

The physicality of England against the thoughtful game of Wales. This

:36:01.:36:06.

is the last match before the medal matches. This is for fifth and sixth

:36:07.:36:13.

spot. Afterwards, it is the match for the bronze medal, Australia

:36:14.:36:19.

against Samoa. After that, we are on BBC1 for the final between New

:36:20.:36:23.

Zealand and South Africa. It promises to be the outstanding

:36:24.:36:26.

contest of the Commonwealth Games. But here we go, England against

:36:27.:36:30.

Wales is always special. COMMENTATOR: Davies takes the cake.

:36:31.:36:48.

-- kick. Lays the ball back. Seems to have been pinched. The referee is

:36:49.:36:54.

happy with that. First attack for England. First time they have the

:36:55.:36:59.

ball. From good break up the middle. Watson with a bit of thrust. Davis

:37:00.:37:09.

has the opportunity to gather the spilled ball from England. The

:37:10.:37:21.

atmosphere is building nicely. It has been jumping all afternoon. Just

:37:22.:37:28.

overran the past there. James Davies back into the poker position. Lee

:37:29.:37:46.

Williams is the only surviving member of the side that won the

:37:47.:37:56.

championships in 2009. Great defence. Took two bites of the

:37:57.:38:01.

cherry but he did the work in the end. That is Norton that has come in

:38:02.:38:14.

illegally. Thomas the captain. Williams. Great play. A flick out of

:38:15.:38:19.

the back door from the captain Adam Thomas. It is that man Lee Williams.

:38:20.:38:24.

The first try of the final against England. He was frustrated because

:38:25.:38:32.

he didn't need the wide pass. But look at the running on the outside,

:38:33.:38:37.

brilliant from the Welshman. Steps in, flicks the ball out of the back

:38:38.:38:42.

door, not only that but attracts two defenders. Creating the overlap.

:38:43.:38:58.

Davies doesn't manage to add the extras. Watch the reaction of Lee

:38:59.:39:05.

Williams when he doesn't get the ball. Adam Thomas has done so well

:39:06.:39:11.

for Wales to slip one out there. The back door. The delight from Williams

:39:12.:39:24.

evident. Hanging kick again. It is gross and Thomas there. Well taken

:39:25.:39:28.

out of the air by Thomas Powell. Burgess. Sneaking up the blindside.

:39:29.:39:36.

Thomas was aware. The Welsh captain back on his feet. James Davies takes

:39:37.:39:44.

it quickly. He has grossed with him. Williams, Harries. Davis outside.

:39:45.:39:52.

This is him. A flat pass to Morgan. Straight down the wing. Shows his

:39:53.:39:59.

strength. Will Harries get over in the corner? It is another try for

:40:00.:40:06.

Wales. Very well worked. As they did against Australia, Wales have come

:40:07.:40:19.

out of the box. -- blocks. It is the strength and support of the running

:40:20.:40:23.

lines that are so good down the right-hand side. That is a great

:40:24.:40:47.

shrike. He is not able to add the extras but it is ten points to the

:40:48.:40:52.

good for Wales. Arab Williams looks on and he will be purring inside

:40:53.:40:57.

with the quality of this try. Interestingly enough, I look down

:40:58.:41:04.

the Welsh bench and looked at Wayne Proctor, the former international

:41:05.:41:10.

winger, the strength and coach, and I must say that these Welsh boys are

:41:11.:41:15.

well conditioned. Remember, this is the sixth time that these boys, both

:41:16.:41:20.

teams, have played throughout the weekend. Trust me, it doesn't matter

:41:21.:41:30.

when it is Wales against England. Either team is desperate to get the

:41:31.:41:37.

bragging rights. Lewis Pratt. Baby comes on the angle. Great run up the

:41:38.:41:46.

middle. Davies shows him a clean pair of heels. So many dummy runners

:41:47.:41:57.

coming for England. They took their eye off Bibby and he spotted the

:41:58.:42:05.

gap. Sometimes as a player you back yourself and Dan Bibby. Wonderful

:42:06.:42:13.

camerawork to follow the England man into the tri- zone. Great running

:42:14.:42:22.

from Bibby. Great response from England to pull one back. Good in

:42:23.:42:38.

telling to play between Christian Lewis-Pratt and Dan Bibby. --

:42:39.:42:49.

interlinked play. Looking sharp. As we wind down towards the end of this

:42:50.:42:54.

first pulsating half, Wales with a 3-point advantage.

:42:55.:43:02.

Opportunity! Now referee has a decision to make. Did he go over the

:43:03.:43:21.

line? Immediately the try is given. Talk us through that. Brilliant from

:43:22.:43:33.

James Davis. A great riposte. He timed that perfectly. Then I buy BB

:43:34.:43:43.

-- denied by Dan Bibby the first time. The intensity!

:43:44.:44:05.

A great first half in the plate final. Wales just edging it at the

:44:06.:44:14.

moment. A very exciting half of sevens. Here we have confirmation.

:44:15.:44:22.

One day you might have noticed from some of the Welsh players,

:44:23.:44:25.

One day you might have noticed from some -- one thing. They had a

:44:26.:44:32.

wristband on that says stay strong, to show support for Williams and the

:44:33.:44:36.

injury that he sustained. Yes, Owen Williams was seriously

:44:37.:44:50.

injured in an accident in a tennis tournament. Yes, stay strong for

:44:51.:44:58.

him. Fingers crossed. We are being spoiled. Just when you think you

:44:59.:45:01.

can't have another exciting game, you get another thriller. That is

:45:02.:45:06.

rugby sevens. Even when there is nothing on the line here, just

:45:07.:45:11.

playing for fifth and sixth, they are playing. I have no idea where

:45:12.:45:16.

the plate goes! There is a plate. It is one of those things, the plate,

:45:17.:45:21.

that goes in the cupboard under the stairs, and then somebody finds it

:45:22.:45:26.

30 years later. The plate competition. But it is England

:45:27.:45:31.

against Wales. England have started well again and taken opportunities

:45:32.:45:35.

and we hope they can hang on. That is the key. They have created a lot

:45:36.:45:40.

of tries. Going on the outside flanks and they don't want to take

:45:41.:45:44.

them up the middle. Just in front. I hope they can hang on. Wales will be

:45:45.:45:49.

acutely aware of what happened when they played Australia earlier today

:45:50.:45:53.

in the outstanding match so far of this festival, when they were nearly

:45:54.:45:58.

home and dry. And Australia won with the last ball of the match. It can

:45:59.:46:08.

turn very swiftly in sevens. They are only eight points up here and

:46:09.:46:12.

that is just one score and a bit. Any score could be crucial. The

:46:13.:46:16.

referee has called release. What have England got? Good

:46:17.:46:26.

interplay. riposte in the second half, bringing

:46:27.:46:58.

the score within three points with a conversion to come. Great play,

:46:59.:47:08.

especially from Dan Bibby. Marcus Watson outstripping the Wales

:47:09.:47:15.

defence and a lovely, executed try. After the 12 points scored so far,

:47:16.:47:19.

Dan Bibby has had a hand in most, scoring a try himself and creating

:47:20.:47:27.

that one over Watson. Christian Lewis-Pratt has had the opportunity

:47:28.:47:28.

to keep the deficit to one point. It is interesting that when you

:47:29.:47:45.

consider that England lost their captain yesterday in Tom Mitchell,

:47:46.:47:51.

sometimes players stand up to the mark and Dan Bibby and Christian

:47:52.:47:53.

Lewis-Pratt have been taking responsibility. He comes off because

:47:54.:48:04.

he has taken a little knock. And Watson, the try scorer, also off.

:48:05.:48:15.

Brake has come on to replace him. Dan Bibby did not quite get that

:48:16.:48:18.

right but it is the first mistake he has made. A wry smile from Dan

:48:19.:48:26.

right but it is the first mistake he Bibby, the proud Lancastrian. Maybe

:48:27.:48:28.

getting stick from his mates for that.

:48:29.:48:47.

Great tackle from Dan Bibby. Wales maintain possession.

:48:48.:49:13.

Wales trying to create quickly but it is an England ball. England were

:49:14.:49:20.

magnificent, flying up on the Welsh line. James Rodwell now coming off

:49:21.:49:23.

the bench. Mark Bright makes way. Still plenty of opportunity in this

:49:24.:49:47.

game for both teams. Brake with the throw in. He will go round and

:49:48.:49:51.

collected. -- collect it. Jason Harries will take the penalty

:49:52.:50:17.

or swap. Lee Williams comes across. Morgan makes the long trek across

:50:18.:50:38.

field to get out onto the win. Why is Morgan on the wing?

:50:39.:50:59.

Great counterplay from England. Yes, good. Morgan had to

:51:00.:51:08.

play-the-ball at the bottom of the pile and was penalised accordingly.

:51:09.:51:15.

England keeping their composure and keeping their line intact. England

:51:16.:51:27.

set the attacking move here. Lots of space in behind the defensive Welsh

:51:28.:51:32.

line. England opting to push the ball down the touchline. Moving

:51:33.:51:38.

towards the last two minutes of this plate final.

:51:39.:51:47.

They suddenly realised there were two twin pines in the England pack!

:51:48.:52:16.

Poor execution at the set piece. Minute and a half for Lee Williams

:52:17.:52:22.

to set and protect this English line. Becoming very tactical. Both

:52:23.:52:31.

teams looking to kick to touch and go for the set piece. The added

:52:32.:52:39.

advantage of it eating into that time clock. Charlie makes an

:52:40.:52:56.

entrance, replacing Phil Burgess, I think. No! The referee was calling

:52:57.:53:01.

Burgess. Wales losing five or six metres but

:53:02.:53:25.

retaining possession. And losing 20 seconds on the clock. I don't even

:53:26.:53:30.

think the coach would say they planned that.

:53:31.:53:49.

Penalty. England will be looking to take this and get out of their

:53:50.:53:56.

inside the last 30 seconds. What can Dan Bibby do? Defence is strong by

:53:57.:54:02.

Wales. Expect the hooter at any moment. We

:54:03.:54:23.

are into last play territory. Last-ditch tackle from Jason

:54:24.:54:31.

Harries. The ball is there to be recycled. Little dash down the

:54:32.:54:38.

blindside. What are they going to do? James Rodwell finds the inside

:54:39.:54:48.

ball to break. He off-loads. They are playing advantage. This is the

:54:49.:54:55.

opportunity! Over in the corner! It will be heartbreak again for Wales.

:54:56.:55:00.

They have lost out again for Australia. Great passage of play

:55:01.:55:09.

from England, waiting in a try in the corner and thoroughly

:55:10.:55:12.

well-deserved. Absolutely. A brilliant tackle by Groves. And Dan

:55:13.:55:21.

Bibby down the far side. Burgess went in low. No worries about him

:55:22.:55:26.

getting pushed out of touch. You have to say it was yet again that

:55:27.:55:32.

man, Dan Bibby. Great vision, great pass, found Burgess on the

:55:33.:55:37.

right-hand touchline. Finished the job. A fantastic game of rugby. It

:55:38.:55:56.

was fantastic rugby. Australia did it by 21 points to 19 and England

:55:57.:56:00.

have done it with the last play of the game by 17 points to 15, and

:56:01.:56:05.

England's hero is Phil Burgess and of course Dan Bibby and all the

:56:06.:56:09.

players who represented England in the Commonwealth Games sevens. They

:56:10.:56:16.

have lit up the tournament. Two sides that we have very much enjoyed

:56:17.:56:20.

watching play and a big smile from Dan Bibby and quite rightly because

:56:21.:56:24.

he was magnificent in the final. He really ran the show for England.

:56:25.:56:29.

They have missed Mitchell immensely but with Dan Bibby they had a

:56:30.:56:31.

playmaker. It is hard to know quite what to

:56:32.:56:47.

say! It would be better if it was six minutes each way, to be honest,

:56:48.:56:52.

or six minutes and 50 seconds! D?j? vu. Last play. That is what sevens

:56:53.:56:59.

is all about. They converge on and England just kept on plugging away

:57:00.:57:06.

and deservedly got the try. You have to go to the last minute, it is such

:57:07.:57:11.

an exciting game. All those cliches that we trot out in sport, we trot

:57:12.:57:15.

them at because they are true. Two evenly matched sides toe to toe. It

:57:16.:57:23.

is a long two days. The cumulative effect of their legs. England just

:57:24.:57:39.

had enough to get across and when. When you get to the last play, you

head back to the SECC. The boxing prelims are into the last 16. With

:02:16.:02:23.

Andrew Selby out in the first round to home favourite Reese McFadden, it

:02:24.:02:34.

opened the door for the contender from Northern Ireland. We can join

:02:35.:02:51.

it in the second round. COMMENTATOR: Dalston opened his account with a

:02:52.:02:56.

convincing win over Christopher Katanga of Zambia. He exemplified

:02:57.:03:02.

the art of hitting without being hit. He has exhibited that again in

:03:03.:03:17.

the opening round. A good right hand to the chin of Dalston. Dalton is

:03:18.:03:30.

far superior in terms of his movement to the Tanzanians. He

:03:31.:03:39.

hasn't got full mobility from his calves. His feet are very

:03:40.:03:58.

flat-footed. He cannot catch him because he is too slow on his feet.

:03:59.:04:14.

Dalton not providing a stationary target. Generally, he cannot be

:04:15.:04:22.

pinned down. A fluid moving target peppering with shots. Look how he is

:04:23.:04:32.

continuing to fall short, punching air. Dalton was caught by a

:04:33.:04:45.

right-hander there. The only way he will get caught if he is made to

:04:46.:04:57.

miss. That is not a bad shot. Dalton has to keep moving his feet. His

:04:58.:05:01.

opponent is struggling to cope with the movement. Mwanjwango Is having

:05:02.:05:38.

minimal success in closing the distance. Dalton is stay out of

:05:39.:05:51.

range of the Tanzanians's punches. Already saving his energy for the

:05:52.:05:57.

second round. A couple of jabs here. A superb combination from Dalton.

:05:58.:06:03.

Keeping the movement going. He finishes that sequence going with

:06:04.:06:09.

his right hand. Really, he is in a total comfort zone, the Northern

:06:10.:06:13.

Irishman. Let's see what the judges have gone with here. Given the Gulf

:06:14.:06:23.

in experience and ability, apparent ability, that exists between the two

:06:24.:06:32.

boxers. It is difficult to see what Mwanjwango can do to turn this in

:06:33.:06:39.

his favour. Into the third and final round. Mwanjwango is trailing by two

:06:40.:06:47.

rounds and he has barely laid a glove on Dalton. There is always the

:06:48.:06:52.

possibility that he will land a punch. And that was a good right

:06:53.:07:01.

hand. And another one. As Richie Woodhall has pointed out, the only

:07:02.:07:06.

time he has a modicum of success is when Dalton stops moving. This is a

:07:07.:07:12.

completely different tactic from the Northern Irishman. He takes another

:07:13.:07:18.

left, right. He has been hit more in this round than in the preceding two

:07:19.:07:27.

rounds. It just shows that if you change your tactics and get them

:07:28.:07:32.

wrong, you play into the hands of the other man. Mwanjwango is having

:07:33.:07:38.

some success here. It is simple tactics. Another right over the top

:07:39.:07:47.

from Mwanjwango. And there is a long left. A left, right from Mwanjwango.

:07:48.:07:54.

In electing to hold his feet and trade at mid and short range, Dalton

:07:55.:08:01.

is coming off second best in this first half of the final round. When

:08:02.:08:07.

you are moving off the back foot, you will frustrate your opponent. He

:08:08.:08:13.

will try silly shots from silly angles and leave himself open. That

:08:14.:08:18.

is what is happening now. Mwanjwango is really going for it and not

:08:19.:08:24.

eating much. He is committed all the time with shots and leading himself

:08:25.:08:32.

open. Standing there, he has got half a chance. A much better start

:08:33.:08:42.

to the round from Mwanjwango. That is probably due to the tactics of

:08:43.:08:52.

Dalton. Rather than gliding from left to right like he did

:08:53.:08:56.

first two rounds, he is electing to stand on his feet and

:08:57.:09:03.

first two rounds, he is electing to And another good punch there. You

:09:04.:09:11.

have got to hand it to him, Mwanjwango is limited but he is

:09:12.:09:15.

strong. He knows he is losing but he keeps coming forward and he is still

:09:16.:09:20.

ambitious. There is another left hook. Now he is pinned in a neutral

:09:21.:09:31.

corner and Mwanjwango is teeing off. But not with much success. He

:09:32.:09:38.

probably wishes there is another three rounds but it is too late.

:09:39.:09:43.

That third round brings a round of applause from the crowd. Dalton

:09:44.:09:51.

received far more punches and punishment during that round then he

:09:52.:09:55.

did in the entirety of the first two rounds. The Tanzanians kept coming

:09:56.:10:02.

forward. Sustained persistent pressure. Because Dalton chose to

:10:03.:10:09.

hold his feet he is caught by a terrific left hand. It was a good

:10:10.:10:14.

performance. He definitely lost the last round. For me, this fella had

:10:15.:10:24.

some success. But it wasn't enough. Ladies and gentlemen, we have our

:10:25.:10:30.

judges scores. The winner moving through to the quarterfinal stages,

:10:31.:10:56.

in the red corner, Ruairi Dalton! Mwanjwango has been outpointed in

:10:57.:11:02.

spectacular fashion. The man from Tanzania came into it far more than

:11:03.:11:06.

he was in the first round. Nevertheless, Ruairi Dalton is one

:11:07.:11:17.

bout away from a Commonwealth medal. It is turning out into a chilled

:11:18.:11:25.

evening here in Glasgow. It is anything but that at Ibrox. It is

:11:26.:11:36.

raining here as well but it is not dampening the spirits. Everything is

:11:37.:11:40.

moving to fever pitch. We really do think that the final could be a

:11:41.:11:45.

classic. This bronze medal match is interesting because some hour took a

:11:46.:11:50.

thumping from South Africa in the semifinal. How will they respond

:11:51.:11:55.

when Australia are the favourites? They are but there is something

:11:56.:12:03.

tangible to play for for these teams. Samoa came up against the

:12:04.:12:10.

best performance of the two days in the semifinal which was from South

:12:11.:12:15.

Africa. If they can get the ball in space they will score tries. If they

:12:16.:12:31.

can just bring him into the game that is the key. But not too early.

:12:32.:12:37.

This could be a very physical encounter because both of them like

this game. Like we have seen on so many occasions, half-time can turn

:23:07.:23:07.

things around. Do not rule Samoa out of this. Jeloudev has had a great

:23:08.:23:09.

game scoring two tries. I don't think they will change anything.

:23:10.:23:10.

They have not isolated the Samoans at all. There are some weary

:23:11.:23:17.

figures. They are lifting themselves the seven more minutes when they

:23:18.:23:24.

have been playing 90 minutes, just seven of them. The ball isn't out

:23:25.:23:30.

our play along either. Tired bodies, but some tired minds. They have got

:23:31.:23:37.

to focus one more time, broke the Australians and the Samoans with a

:23:38.:23:38.

bronze medal at stake. Ed Jenkins, the skipper draws the

:23:39.:24:14.

penalty. Once again a bit of language we could do without on a

:24:15.:24:20.

Sunday! The Australians looking to increase their lead. They just know

:24:21.:24:25.

if they can keep control of the ball, stop Samoa competing at the

:24:26.:24:32.

breakdown, that is where the game will be one and lost. One by Sean

:24:33.:24:38.

McMahon launching another Australian attack. Palmer who took a bit of a

:24:39.:24:48.

knock in the semifinal against New Zealand. But he is back on his

:24:49.:25:03.

speed. Such good work. Once again, James Stannard was at the centre of

:25:04.:25:09.

things to win possession back. What can Liam Gill do with it?

:25:10.:25:24.

Under the gaze of Geraint John. Once again

:25:25.:25:33.

Under the gaze of Geraint John. it is Sean McMahon. Such a handful.

:25:34.:25:41.

Goodness me! The strength of Sean McMahon to get back close to the

:25:42.:25:45.

line and take Australia to the brink of their third try. The bronze medal

:25:46.:25:51.

is almost birds, they can almost touch it. Look at the strength of

:25:52.:25:59.

Sean McMahon. He represented Australia for the first time at 17.

:26:00.:26:02.

20 now and he made this try. Two players who have been central to

:26:03.:26:24.

Australia over the last few minutes. Combining to score a try which may

:26:25.:26:27.

have taken them beyond the reach of the Samoans. The extra insurance of

:26:28.:26:34.

another two points from the conversion. He can take his place on

:26:35.:26:44.

the bench and take some water, knowing he has done his bit. Nothing

:26:45.:26:50.

more he can do. Sean McMahon, we identified him as a real workhorse

:26:51.:26:55.

of a player and he has been replaced by Tom Cusack. Australia,

:26:56.:27:02.

silver-medallists in Delhi four years ago. Bronze medal in Kuala

:27:03.:27:08.

Lumpur. All those years later, set to repeat. Samoa will still think

:27:09.:27:15.

they have a few words to say about it, however. They need to score

:27:16.:27:19.

quickly. They are into Australian territory.

:27:20.:27:37.

Lio Lolo striding with some purpose. The injury to Asifaamatala upfront

:27:38.:27:56.

has been crucial. But they are up against a very good Australian team.

:27:57.:28:02.

Gavin John from Australia will be delighted with his charges. I'm sure

:28:03.:28:12.

he will be the first to recognise the work that Michael O Connor has

:28:13.:28:18.

done since taking over at the 11th hour. As the rain is starting to

:28:19.:28:24.

fall. We were promised one or two showers today and we have escaped

:28:25.:28:28.

quite likely. But we are getting a bit of a dousing here. The Glasgow

:28:29.:28:38.

skies south of the Clyde. It is taken on by Tulolo Tulolo. Some were

:28:39.:28:49.

nearly needing something special now. The camaraderie was evident

:28:50.:28:56.

with that last bit of work and each of the Australian players clapping

:28:57.:29:02.

each other. Egging each other on. A good team ethos amongst this

:29:03.:29:13.

Australia team. Tom Lucas to feed the fruit machine. Foley. Two Pama

:29:14.:29:25.

Fou. Scored some important tries on the way to this bronze medal match.

:29:26.:29:34.

The number 11. Lost it though. An opportunity for Samoa to do

:29:35.:29:40.

something with it. It was lost by Afa Aiono. Lost of that unity to do

:29:41.:29:52.

some more attacking. -- lost that opportunity. There have been some

:29:53.:29:59.

familiar names in this Wallabies setup down the line. David Campese

:30:00.:30:07.

was one of the people in charge. Matt Giteau. He has played his part.

:30:08.:30:14.

Turner, Cummins, silver medals in 2010. Players who have featured in

:30:15.:30:23.

this seven side. This 2014 generation are powering towards

:30:24.:30:27.

bronze in Glasgow. Sam Myers make sure. It will be Aussie runs.

:30:28.:30:39.

Absolutely. -- bronze. There was a sharpness to that Australian play.

:30:40.:30:46.

The sixth game of their weekend. Jenkins the captain is first to

:30:47.:30:50.

congratulate the try scorer Sam Myers. Just going to have time for

:30:51.:31:05.

the restart. Some Samoa have been completely shut out. They have been

:31:06.:31:11.

outfought. , Foley with the line-out. There has been a sharpness

:31:12.:31:18.

in this Australian performance. Delight on the bench. They are

:31:19.:31:24.

standing up now and they will be standing on the medals podium before

:31:25.:31:29.

the evening is out here at Ibrox. They are going to have bronze medals

:31:30.:31:34.

around their neck. Selesele could not control the ball. Tulolo Tulolo

:31:35.:31:42.

for Samoa who still cannot get their hands on a Commonwealth Games medal.

:31:43.:31:50.

Still can't move any closer to Fiji's achievements. Fiavaai trying

:31:51.:32:03.

to do his best but the game is gone for the Islanders. They only

:32:04.:32:08.

finished eighth in the world 11 series last year. This was a chance

:32:09.:32:14.

to improve an otherwise pallid year for them. It is not going to happen.

:32:15.:32:20.

They fail to make any headway on the scoreboard after dominating the

:32:21.:32:22.

first five minutes of the match and it has never looked likely. Samoa

:32:23.:32:34.

want to have the last word. Silly silly thought it was going to be

:32:35.:32:41.

him. But emphatically it is Australia. -- sailor Soleil.

:32:42.:32:47.

While that game was going on we were treated to a sensational sunset here

:32:48.:32:56.

at Pacific key. The sun falling down behind the transport Museum here.

:32:57.:33:02.

They had a similar one yesterday but lighting issues meant that we

:33:03.:33:06.

couldn't appreciate it. England won the plate in the rugby sevens. It

:33:07.:33:11.

was scant consolation at the end of the day because they are effectively

:33:12.:33:14.

finished fifth. After the contest, John spoke to England back Marcus

:33:15.:33:21.

Watson. You couldn't have left it much later in that game. We had a

:33:22.:33:26.

difficult start but we pulled through in the end. How do assess

:33:27.:33:36.

your performance overall? We came for the gold so a bit disappointed

:33:37.:33:39.

but the last two games, it was good to get a win. From your point of

:33:40.:33:46.

view, you scored a couple of spectacular individual tries. You

:33:47.:33:51.

cannot have had a bigger reception anywhere. The crowd has been amazing

:33:52.:33:55.

here and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. You are an interested

:33:56.:34:01.

observer at the final, how do you assess it? We'll see. It is going to

:34:02.:34:09.

be a good. New Zealand have just edged it this year. It has been an

:34:10.:34:16.

amazing experience. We are going home tomorrow, unfortunately. Thank

:34:17.:34:23.

you very much. That final will be over on BBC1 shortly. We have been

:34:24.:34:29.

getting some of your Commonwelfies. Use the hashtag. Ronnie has managed

:34:30.:34:37.

to get a Commonwelfies with the Australian cycling team. Alex took

:34:38.:34:44.

his with his grandfather at the rugby sevens. Clyde has been

:34:45.:34:51.

everywhere and Scott got his picture with Clyde the mascot. Some of the

:34:52.:34:59.

BBC rugby team were involved with this one. And Dave Rogers the

:35:00.:35:04.

badminton announcer at the Commonwealth Games sent as this

:35:05.:35:13.

picture following our coverage. So only a handful of games available

:35:14.:35:17.

for your viewing at the moment. Gold medal match in the rugby sevens will

:35:18.:35:25.

be over on BBC1. New Zealand never beaten in the Commonwealth Games

:35:26.:35:31.

against South Africa. In the hockey, England are playing their second

:35:32.:35:39.

pool match against me -- against Malaysian. If you have been watching

:35:40.:35:45.

the coverage over the last couple of days you will have noticed rowing

:35:46.:35:48.

legend Katherine Grainger all over the place trying to grab words with

:35:49.:35:55.

some athletes. Glasgow is her home and she learned her trade here.

:35:56.:35:59.

Let's get her take on glorious Glasgow. Behind me lies Glasgow

:36:00.:36:19.

cream. One of Glasgow's biggest and most well-known greens paces. It

:36:20.:36:23.

will be home to the hockey competition and form part of the

:36:24.:36:28.

marathon route and road race. The Clyde here is home to rowing clubs.

:36:29.:36:35.

It's stretch of water is where I first got in a boat and never looked

:36:36.:36:40.

back once. Just across the street in the east end lies the Barra market.

:36:41.:36:56.

An iconic landmark is here, a popular ballroom that was turned

:36:57.:37:15.

into a popular concert venue. Barrowlands is a venue that

:37:16.:37:19.

everybody wants to play. In 2012 when I won the Olympics, that

:37:20.:37:32.

traffic cone was painted gold. Established in 1451, Glasgow

:37:33.:37:34.

University is the fourth oldest in the English-speaking world. It

:37:35.:37:41.

played a crucial role in 18th-century Scottish

:37:42.:37:44.

Enlightenment. Its buyers dominate the skyline and it has many

:37:45.:37:49.

illustrious alumna including James Watt and John Logie Baird. Several

:37:50.:37:55.

Nobel laureates, to British prime ministers, senior Emily Sunday and

:37:56.:38:04.

actor Gerard Butler. Glaswegians have a tough worth ethic -- work

:38:05.:38:13.

ethic and a strong sense of play. In this street the pubs clubs and

:38:14.:38:16.

restaurants throw their doors open ready for everyone to enjoy

:38:17.:38:21.

themselves. Growing up in Glasgow, no school year was complete without

:38:22.:38:26.

a trip to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Everything I

:38:27.:38:31.

know about Egypt, Dinah Shore is an Medieval Britain began here. There

:38:32.:38:37.

is even a full life Spitfire and a trip to visit Alvis. What's not to

:38:38.:38:42.

love? It is one of the most visited free attractions in the whole UK.

:38:43.:38:46.

This summer it became famous for something even bigger. The

:38:47.:38:51.

Commonwealth Games came to the Kelvingrove and brought lawn bowls

:38:52.:39:04.

with them. Interesting to see her at Kelvingrove, one of the most

:39:05.:39:11.

picturesque venues at the games. The final of the men's badminton. Nick

:39:12.:39:16.

Matthew took on fellow squad member Peter Barker. Matthew came through

:39:17.:39:20.

that 3-0 to reach another major final.

:39:21.:39:41.

Six success for Nick Matthew. Can he be joined by James Willstrop. He

:39:42.:40:04.

faces Saurav Ghosal of India. be joined by James Willstrop. He

:40:05.:40:24.

COMMENTATOR: Again, you feel for Saurav Ghosal, he has provided some

:40:25.:40:28.

spectacular moments but he has got nothing to show for it. James

:40:29.:40:32.

Willstrop is a game away from the final. Let's see if we can pick up

:40:33.:40:45.

anything here will final. Let's see if we can pick up

:40:46.:40:56.

anything here will don't give him things to chase onto.

:40:57.:41:25.

Anything that you are going to open up on INAUDIBLE

:41:26.:41:41.

The only thing I could pick up was not to hit with so much pace from

:41:42.:41:48.

the back of the court, use more control. David Campion the England

:41:49.:41:56.

coach saying to James it is OK and play your normal game. Pushed to the

:41:57.:42:01.

back of the court. You have two be more aggressive sometimes. It is not

:42:02.:42:11.

going to do it. Saurav Ghosal is moving too well and he is able to

:42:12.:42:16.

return it and create his own pressure. It takes James out of his

:42:17.:42:23.

comfort zone. It is a good sign for Saurav Ghosal. He is making James

:42:24.:42:26.

Willstrop working Gregory hard in this match. -- work incredibly hard.

:42:27.:42:36.

It has been a wonderful match to watch. Saurav Ghosal came back from

:42:37.:42:44.

two games down yesterday but to do that against James Willstrop playing

:42:45.:42:49.

like this, the number six in the world, it is a massive Aske. He does

:42:50.:43:21.

looks fresh, Ghosal. James Willstrop's game, plays a bit

:43:22.:43:28.

slower, so he does a lot of miles around the court, front and back.

:43:29.:43:39.

Two players who train at the same club. Coached by the same man.

:43:40.:43:49.

Willstrop's dad. What is he thinking now with his son just one game

:43:50.:43:52.

away? A rare mistake. Takes great care in

:43:53.:45:07.

the execution of every shot, James Willstrop. Even his serve will stop

:45:08.:45:14.

--. Because of his technique he can leave the ball a little bit later

:45:15.:45:19.

than most players. He can utilise the wrist. As we see, let the ball

:45:20.:45:27.

the wrist. As we see, let the comeback quite fast so he can use

:45:28.:45:34.

the strings. Wait and then executed. Very nice shot.

:45:35.:45:59.

Andrew Shelley. Chief executive of world squash. Must be very proud of

:46:00.:46:18.

the show Glasgow have put on and also these competitors have put on.

:46:19.:46:25.

Great advertisement for squash and what is essentially a window into

:46:26.:46:38.

the world of a game of squash. The hope now is the big cheeses in the

:46:39.:46:46.

IOC are watching what is being delivered here. It is obviously the

:46:47.:46:52.

goal of squash to get into the Olympic sport. They want that

:46:53.:47:01.

recognition. It is such an intense affiliation, the players do have

:47:02.:47:09.

with this game. They are struggling to believe squash is not in the

:47:10.:47:14.

Olympics. It exhibits all of the criteria squash is a sport has to

:47:15.:47:31.

get into the Olympic Games. I don't want to get them into trouble so I

:47:32.:47:36.

won't name them, but it is a better fit the Olympics than a lot of other

:47:37.:47:43.

sports. It is a lot of criteria to fill, not just the sport itself, but

:47:44.:47:49.

to fit into the logistics. Movable court. I am sure it will happen one

:47:50.:47:58.

day... We hope. Yes! Willstrop getting closer and

:47:59.:48:21.

closer now, to his goal. Strange miss then from Ghosal. This

:48:22.:48:55.

is rapidly going Willstrop's way. Of course, 3-0 is a good score line.

:48:56.:49:11.

You would want to leave something in the tank for the bronze medal match.

:49:12.:49:13.

The bronze medal match is tomorrow. Maybe that could be in the back of

:49:14.:49:20.

his mind, even now. If there is still a window of opportunity, I am

:49:21.:49:24.

sure Ghosal will want to take advantage of every opportunity. As

:49:25.:49:34.

this score creeps closer to the finish line the

:49:35.:49:35.

this score creeps closer to the is certainly a consideration.

:49:36.:50:03.

Ghosal is giving it the maximum right now. Lovely touch to finish.

:50:04.:50:22.

Just caressed it home. No letter. I think that is harsh. He

:50:23.:51:06.

is going after the video replay. -- letter. He was pretty close to it?

:51:07.:51:12.

He was close and Willstrop was close to the ball as well. Look how tight

:51:13.:51:21.

it was to the wall. That will be a consideration when the referee looks

:51:22.:51:24.

at this. It was a beautifully executed shot. The appeal judge,

:51:25.:51:32.

like an a second opinion. It does not increase the probability of

:51:33.:51:35.

making a better decision, but it is a chance the Ghosal. Maybe that was

:51:36.:51:54.

a sympathy let. Does such a ring exist? He is still in this. --

:51:55.:51:59.

thing. Miraculous defending again. Ghosal

:52:00.:52:32.

still maintains his appeal. When both players reached ten, they

:52:33.:52:38.

automatically get one each again. They know each other really well.

:52:39.:52:53.

Lovely moment. Two points away now, Willstrop.

:52:54.:53:04.

Devilish disguise. Here are five match balls were James Willstrop.

:53:05.:53:49.

Superb. James Willstrop has made it through. To the final of the

:53:50.:54:04.

Commonwealth Games here in Glasgow. Runner up four years ago. He faces

:54:05.:54:13.

the same man tomorrow. But you can see just getting to the final has

:54:14.:54:19.

meant an awful lot to him. He guarantees himself at least a silver

:54:20.:54:26.

medal now. He was made to work tonight. He did not have it all his

:54:27.:54:34.

own way. The first two games were very tough. He had to think about

:54:35.:54:42.

his strategy to get through. Had to change his natural game. He will

:54:43.:54:49.

face Nick Matthew in an all English final. That is almost bit on BBC

:54:50.:54:53.

Three in terms of coverage of Glasgow 2014. At 10:30pm on BBC One,

:54:54.:55:01.

Clare Balding and Nick Chapman. What can we look forward to? Lots of

:55:02.:55:06.

medallists, Chris Hoy and Mark Foster will be with us. We will be

:55:07.:55:10.

looking forward to the final day of track cycling, we will have Laura

:55:11.:55:19.

Trott adjoining is as well. We have the inspirational marathon runner,

:55:20.:55:24.

Steven Way to talk to. We will concentrate on the home nations, but

:55:25.:55:28.

tonight we will be going down the Australia route as well, with some

:55:29.:55:31.

Australians coming in and we will reflect on the sevens be at Ibrox.

:55:32.:55:38.

It should be allowed if there are a few Australians in? Yes it should be

:55:39.:55:44.

and the Barman should be doing a few Australian cocktails as well. That

:55:45.:55:55.

is it for BBC Three. Tomorrow, as far as we are concerned, we have

:55:56.:56:00.

lawn bowls, Northern Ireland against South Africa starting at nine

:56:01.:56:05.

o'clock. Swimming heeds starting from half past ten and Dan is with

:56:06.:56:19.

wet, wet, wet. The crowd are poised, so let's get the house band

:56:20.:56:22.

to play is out on BBC Three.
