BBC Two: Day 7: Artistic Gymnastics Final and Boxing Commonwealth Games

Welcome back. We left the gymnastics at a critical and exploiting stage

so we are straight back to it. COMMENTATOR: Elizabeth Beddoe is up

into fourth position for the moment. So, Ruby Harrold needing a score of

13.168 to go ahead of Hannah Whelan. Hannah Whelan is leading the

competition. She's scored 13.5 on this piece. Ruby needs precise

landings. Really good first tumble. Very dramatic floor routine.

Well-controlled. This is quite a complex tumble. She

is really going for it here. She really goes for the dance. Need

enough energy for the big last tumble. No problem at all! What a

performance! She could not have done any better than that. My word! She

knew exactly what was asked of her and she went up there and she

delivered. Absolutely, I have watched her complete that routine

quite a lot and I have never seen her land with such precision. That

was really special. She has set up her land with such precision. That

grandstand finish! This competition! Bosch! -- gosh.

Georgina Hockenhull. She needs a good vault. Not bad at all, just a

little bit off line. She has done very well in her first major

championships. Lots of promise for the future. A proud coach.

Good round off and lift, body shape very nice. She will be deducted a

little bit for being off-line. That comes from not pushing quite evenly

off the top of the platform. An enquiry has gone in to Hannah

Whelan's score. It was 13.5. 13.7. Hannah Whelan is looking to push up

from 13.5. So, Ruby Harrold now leads. Elsabeth

Black marches out for one of the most important floor routines of her

life. She needs over 13.842. And she has a very big floor routine.

Good leaps. This tumble is so difficult. The same as yesterday,

she just bounced forward out of it. That is going to be very costly.

Two really difficult tumbles. But deductions on them both. And you can

tell by the look on her face, she had a moment before she smiled to

the crowd. A couple of staggers which will prove crucial. I think

the first one had her hand stamped as well. One hole mark, there is no

quibbling. At the moment Georgina Hockenhull is

in fourth place. I would have been happy with a top ten finish. As you

can see, the enquiry rejected. She really got their heels over the top

there to rotate that. Really nicely done.

Lots of power here. Well done and dead centre. This is a very nice

fault. She is a good tumbler and on the vault. Elsabeth Black just waits

and wonders if it is enough to push her into second and guarantee her a

medal. It is going to be very tight. Very

tight indeed. If she is in third and cloud if I can get over 13.8, it

will be an all England medal rostrum -- Claudia Fragapane.

It is third. 12.766. It is first and second for England at the moment.

Will it be first, second and third? Claudia Fragapane needs over 13.833

to get gold. She thought her opportunity for a medal was over but

she will grab this chance with both hands. Claudia Fragapane for a medal

in the women's all-around final. Now we are going to see how much she has

mature. She has been a great team player but has not yet done it for

herself. Come on, Claudia. Makes it easily!

We are getting excited here. This is the tumble that is the

tricky one. She makes it. If she can land this final tumble,

that score is within her grasp. She can! Oh! What a performance, I am

thrilled for her! Acrobatics that are out of this world, surely it is

England first, second and third! Not only the acrobatics but the

projection, confidence, presentation, the whole thing was

brilliant. What a performance and what a release of emotion from this

young lady who has made her senior debut this year.

Dear Road Deary me! An amazing result for England. Halfway through

it did not look likely at all when mistakes were coming.

What a fantastic performance, what they routine. Spectacular stuff. We

can join West Weddle now and get her opinion on that. It was exciting --

Beth Tweddle. They did fantastic, they knew what they had to do and

they were literally points within each other and it is an incredible

day for English gymnastics and for British gymnastics. She thought she

had blown it, didn't she? She came off the beam and you could see that

look, the title was over but she came back on the floor and she has

an incredible powerful floor. You should have seen the reaction from

the team when she landed that final tumble. They knew she had taken the

title. That beam is tough, it is scary, dangerous! It can be. There

were those top six and three out of those six fell. It can make or break

it but they all have such high difficulty that they were able to

get it back on other pieces. We are in good shape domestically in terms

of gymnastics, both the men and the women. Yes, obviously England

winning the gold medals again and one, two, three is brilliant. Also

Scotland and Wales making their debuts and doing fantastic. It

continues tomorrow, what are you looking forward to? We have the

vault final and the bar final where Rebecca Downie will be hoping to add

the Commonwealth title to the European title and everybody cannot

wait for the pommel horse final where you have Lewis, Max and Daniel

competing against each other for the first time. We look forward to that.

As you can see, I have been joined by Barry McGuigan which signifies

the fact that we have some boxing. I am sure you would like to hear his

analysis about the pommel horse but he is here to talk about user

liaison -- pugilism! We start with Steven Donnelly of Northern Ireland.

He was sent home from Delhi four years ago for drunken behaviour but

was looking for a medal in this one. He was up against the highly rated

Custio Clayton of Canada, we join it in the second round.

COMMENTATOR: Clayton has him on the ropes. He keeps him there. Donnelly

has got to keep moving. Hit and move. If you does that people get

through this. Donnelly taking a clipping left on

the inside but he's having success with shots to the body.

Donnelly again using straight shots to keep Clayton off-balance and

preventing the man from Canada getting his own shots off cleanly.

Into Round 3, the world number eight, Custio Clayton is trailing by

two rounds to nothing on two of the three judges' scorecards.

The man in blue is the three-time Northern Irish champion.

A real test of Donnelly's fitness and focus now. He is doing the right

things, boxing at distance. He needs to move.

He's matching Clayton for industry and keeping the Canadian

off-balance. The shots were carried effectively by Clayton but they kept

him out of punching range. -- the shots were blocked

effectively. The man from Canada goes backwards

for one of the rare times in the bout. He must have got hurt somehow

there. He just lost his balance. Obviously, something is wrong.

The speed seems to have gone out of Clayton.

It is Donnelly's second Commonwealth Games. After a nightmare experience

in Delhi four years ago, he is on the cusp of securing what would be

the most wonderful redemption, a medal place on the podium.

Clayton's head appears to have cleared and he's coming on strong

again. For my many, Stephen Donnelly has

just pulled off a significant upset. As the bell sounds, Stephen Donnelly

races his arms in anticipation of what surely is a place in the final

four of the 69 kilograms welterweight tournament. The winner

through to the last place in the welterweight semifinals... In the

blue corner, representing Northern Ireland, Stephen Donnelly!

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE A terrific performance. Redemption.

From 04-macro years ago to Hebrew and meta- list. He Furahisha the

Irish seniors this year and he beat the European gold medallist. He has

really set the world ablaze this year with his performances. The

number eight in the world, the Canadian, is a very capable fighter.

So I think he has really improved. The last and he made Clayton's legs

do a silly dance. He caught him long. He is big and rangy for the 69

K division. Is range? His range. He can actually box and fight, which is

good. It is a very competitive division. And he shuffled.

Impressive performance. He must be very pleased that I know that his

coach must be thrilled. Can he bring very pleased that I know that his

the goal back row -- can he win the gold? I do not want to say just yet.

It is a very competitive division. Scott Fitzgerald has also Furahisha

his way through to the finals. -- won his way through to the finals.

You have just completely given away the result of our next fight. I am

very sorry. But the people who are going to watch it will have seen it

anyway. England's Scott Fitzgerald was up against the New Zealander. We

join it in the start of the third round. Richie and Ronald McIntosh

Men's 69 K quarterfinal action. A place on the podium is the price for

the victor here. Morgan has taken the opening two rounds for one judge

but the other judges have seen it in favour of Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald

boxing effectively on the back foot but Morgan getting onto his own

punching range and exchanging jabs with him.

Don't hold your feet, Scott. Just keep doing what you're doing. Don't

stand there. Plenty of exchanges occurring at the

beginning of this third round. Both men having their success with clean

punches. Right hand over the top was the

response from Morgan to a shot to the body from Fitzgerald.

I think that might have heard Morgan, then. -- hurt. That is a

sign, when a boxer pauses in the action.

The movement has lessened from Fitzgerald in this part of the

round. Now we are reaching the part of the

contest, who wants it the most? There is the bell. What a contest.

The warm embrace between two committed boxers. England's Scott

Fitzgerald and New Zealand's Bowyn Morgan. A split decision. In favour

of the winner now through to the semifinals... In the red corner,

representing England, Scott Fitzgerald!

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Who saw that coming, Fitzgerald

winning like that? You should have told me! Good effort, though.

William performance. A great kid. He has it all. He can punch, fight

aggressively, but he is fighting a South African in the next round,

very talented guy. Quick. But he has had two magnificent performances so

far but I have seen. Very talented guy. He can box and punch. He

prefers to come forward and he had to fight this very strong guys from

New Zealand. Nothing in it, really. But Fitzgerald through the most

significant punches and managed to get through on point, but very

close. Welterweight, a tough decision. Exactly. The most

competitive decision. Donnelly is also in a very tough semifinal

against an Indian by who is very good. I think he's number 12 in the

world. So it is a competitive division. The welterweight division

one time online. Back to the ring and the women's middleweight

division. Shush, Barry! Lauren Price of Wales took on Australian Kaye

Scott for a place in the semifinals. COMMENTATOR: Into the fourth and

final round we go. Kaye Scott from Australia, in red. The three rounds

completed have all gone in favour of the boxer in blue from Wales. A

standing count from the referee for the Australian.

So Kaye Scott has had her efforts at coming forward negated by receiving

a standing count courtesy of two swift shot from Lauren Price. Lauren

Price was leading three rounds to nothing coming into this fourth and

final round and then she has just produced a standing count against

her opponent. Kaye Scott has it all to do and really has to look at a

stoppage within the distance if she wants to go through to the final

four. 83 punch combination. The referee

said stop after the first two. -- three punch combination. Somebody in

the crowd says, come on, Lauren, same again! I am sure that is the

intent running through the mind of Lauren Price.

Demonstrating great use of the feet and legs, using all the space in the

boxing ring. Price just tying Scott up there, not giving her the

opportunity to land anything clean and then she walks away.

Good shot goes in once more and it is Lauren Price who receives the

first count of the contest. It was a strong right across from Scott. A

standing count. What an all action fourth round this has been but from

Scott's point of view, too little success far too late. Lauren Price

receives a high five from Colin Jones and the Welsh coaching staff.

She goes back to her corner victorious and in the knowledge,

safe in the knowledge, that she is through to the middle stages of the

Commonwealth Games middleweight tournament. We have our judges'

scorecard all in agreement, winner by unanimous decision, through to

the semifinals, in the blue corner...

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Lauren Price! For the second bout in succession

here in Glasgow, Lauren Price has produced the most magnificent

display of boxing and on this occasion, this quarterfinal stage,

it means she is through to the medal podium.

A former kick boxer as well, world champion many times. Very talented.

I love the way she moves back, she counterpunches. She was under Russia

there in the end and she caught the Australian girl. -- under pressure.

She kept cool under pressure. She is very talented. She is against

potentially Savannah Marshall who is the English girl and has already won

the middleweight world title. It is another tough division. We are just

about out of time that let pop back and see the girls with their medals

there. The gymnastic trio. England, one, two, and three. What a

brilliant effort from those three. That adds to England's growing tally

of medals in the Commonwealth Games. Hopefully it will appear at some

stage, the medal table, as we gradually ran out of time... No, we

have a bit of a problem with our traffic but it is all going
