London and its landmarks have become synonymous with sporting drama and

:01:39.:01:43.

this weekend, a new event aims to keep that ball rolling, or rather,

:01:43.:01:48.

the wheels. The UK's largest ever cycling Festival, something for

:01:48.:01:56.

everyone. Welcome to RideLondon. It kicked off yesterday morning with

:01:56.:02:03.

free cycle, over 50,000 bicycles on traffic free cycle in heaven in

:02:03.:02:10.

London. On even in, the focus switched to St James's Park and the

:02:10.:02:20.
:02:20.:02:20.

Golden pursued Queens. -- in the evening. Then, 20,000 amateur riders

:02:20.:02:24.

were on the 100 mile course based on last year 's Olympic road race. And

:02:24.:02:29.

in one hour, the professional riders take to the same roads, the London -

:02:29.:02:39.

sorry classic with star names to look out for. The action yesterday

:02:39.:02:42.

was in central London and today it shifts to Stratford and the Queen

:02:42.:02:49.

Elizabeth Olympic Park. Happy memories. The riders set of between

:02:49.:02:52.

6am and 8am and then the professionals at around 12:45pm.

:02:52.:02:59.

Just signing in. They finish on the mile, we -- anticipate the

:02:59.:03:05.

professionals at around 6:15pm. And the amateurs, they are already

:03:05.:03:10.

coming in behind me. They started arriving at 10am and the cut-off is

:03:10.:03:17.

at 4pm so we hope that Boris Johnson will make it before the wagon sweeps

:03:17.:03:22.

up! Good morning from the very first Prudential RideLondon. A celebration

:03:23.:03:29.

of cycling the likes of which the city has never seen and alongside me

:03:29.:03:35.

is Rob Hayles. A great weekend for cycling. And a measure of just how

:03:35.:03:42.

far this board has come? It is amazing to see just were cycling is,

:03:42.:03:46.

British cycling membership has gone to over 75,000 and that was before

:03:46.:03:49.

this year and the Tour de France, with that second consecutive British

:03:49.:03:56.

winner. It really is amazing to see over 70,000 riders here in London

:03:56.:04:00.

this weekend on closed roads, hundreds of thousands coming to spec

:04:00.:04:08.

Tate. I am blown away. And we have the weather as well. When you fast

:04:08.:04:15.

-- first started, it was different? It was completely different. I am so

:04:15.:04:23.

glad to have been able to come through this, I can sit back and I

:04:23.:04:28.

can watch from the shop window and see what is going on. I just cannot

:04:28.:04:33.

believe the household names, Bradley Wiggins, Laura Trott, all of those

:04:33.:04:42.

people. Amazing to see out of those last four BBC sports personality of

:04:42.:04:49.

the competitions, three of them have been cyclists. What has been the

:04:49.:04:56.

catalyst for this resurgence? To be truthful, we are just so good at it.

:04:56.:05:03.

A lotta that comes the elite side, with Cavendish and Chris Froome, but

:05:03.:05:12.

also, cycling is seen as a pastime that is acceptable and the amount of

:05:12.:05:15.

brand-new bikes going around yesterday, I do not know how they

:05:15.:05:21.

can cope. And this is seen as a way for people to spend time, not just

:05:21.:05:28.

getting from a to B. It is actually a pastime and great to see. The

:05:28.:05:33.

action kicked off yesterday morning early with 50,000 riders on that

:05:33.:05:39.

eight mile loop in central London and our reporters were there to

:05:39.:05:45.

follow them. It kicks off in St Paul's with the world 's second

:05:45.:05:50.

attempt for the longest single parade of bicycles. Leading them, a

:05:50.:05:54.

Rugby World Cup hero. And a double Olympic champion getting them under

:05:54.:06:04.
:06:04.:06:05.

way. You are usually used to setting world records. Are you excited?

:06:05.:06:12.

Really excited. So many people have come here already. We already have

:06:12.:06:17.

half of the amount. You are leading this line and you have been leading

:06:17.:06:21.

many teams in the past, what do you have to do to make sure this world

:06:21.:06:26.

record is set? Don't go the wrong way! I want to see so many people

:06:26.:06:33.

riding as possible. This is a massive amount of people and it is

:06:33.:06:43.
:06:43.:06:44.

turning us into a cycling nation. have a clear road in front of me. I

:06:44.:06:52.

will be fine. I will see you at the finish. Good luck. Good luck to all

:06:52.:07:02.
:07:02.:07:33.

not enough to brake the record? I am buried is appointed. But we are

:07:33.:07:40.

enjoying this so we are going to do the whole route. Brilliant. -- very

:07:40.:07:50.
:07:50.:07:53.

disappointed. So, no world record but they have put on plenty of other

:07:53.:07:56.

events for the people of London to get involved with and with a

:07:56.:08:06.
:08:06.:08:13.

beautiful backdrop. Bicycles have so many different uses! That is it.

:08:13.:08:23.
:08:23.:08:28.

After you... That is beautiful! And this was not good enough, Jill

:08:28.:08:34.

Douglas has been getting more right action around London. -- bicycle

:08:34.:08:40.

action. Loads going on in Green Park, one stone 's throw away from

:08:40.:08:44.

Buckingham Palace so if you are a great grandmother looking for

:08:44.:08:54.
:08:54.:09:05.

inspiration for the perfect gift, take a look around. You are a very

:09:05.:09:09.

game having a go on that ridiculous bicycle! It is not as easy as it

:09:09.:09:14.

looks, it is very difficult to get your feet onto those pedals. You

:09:14.:09:24.
:09:24.:09:49.

leave that there are... -- there. From world record attempts to

:09:49.:09:55.

bicycle polo to the MX trickery, we have had everything but sometimes

:09:55.:10:01.

you just have to leave things to the professionals. They are very good!

:10:01.:10:07.

They were having far too much fun. And earlier this morning at the

:10:07.:10:13.

start of the road race, we got up with a man whose idea this entire

:10:13.:10:20.

weekend was. Boris Johnson. There is a festival of feeling at the start

:10:20.:10:25.

and I am joined by the headline act, Boris Johnson. Fantastic to see you

:10:25.:10:29.

and after all of those months of planning, you got to drop the flag

:10:29.:10:35.

and get this started. Must've been a great feeling? And it is a real

:10:35.:10:41.

honour to participate. I hope to start very soon, I cannot delay.

:10:41.:10:46.

With the speed that I go! It is the greatest cycling event this country

:10:46.:10:51.

has ever held. It was amazing coming through the streets of East London

:10:51.:10:58.

to watch these huge numbers swarming like hornets towards the Olympic

:10:58.:11:04.

Park. Obviously, it was very worrying to see the amazing levels

:11:04.:11:09.

of fitness! You will put them to shame because you will be racing

:11:09.:11:14.

later? I will be racing now, if I possibly can. I am very happy to do

:11:14.:11:19.

this in under 12 hours! You had a vision for cycling in London and

:11:19.:11:25.

this is a fantastic setting. Is this what you wanted? London is moving

:11:26.:11:28.

east and the Olympic Park is a fantastic venue and this was a

:11:28.:11:33.

fantastic ways to start this but this is a magnificent symbol for

:11:33.:11:38.

what we are doing for cycling in the city. In 19 four, 30 percentage

:11:38.:11:44.

earnings were made by bicycle and I want to turn the clock back! Time to

:11:44.:11:47.

turn the clock back and time to get back down to the start line.

:11:47.:11:54.

Absolute pleasure! I am glad to say, he has got a slightly more

:11:54.:12:00.

aerodynamic T-shirt than the shirt, not too sure about his helmet! He

:12:00.:12:07.

had this plan to get through to the finish line before he was sweet. And

:12:07.:12:13.

the latest news, 355 miles, four hours and 40 minutes for Boris

:12:13.:12:17.

Johnson. He will be right on that cut-off point but he will give

:12:17.:12:26.

people lots of smiles. Good luck to Boris Johnson. Yesterday given in,

:12:26.:12:29.

people would not look at St James's Park and the appearance of Laura

:12:29.:12:39.
:12:39.:13:16.

Trott, Danny King and Jill Russell. see the Americans. They are on fire.

:13:16.:13:19.

Great Britain win the Olympic title and the gold medal and another

:13:19.:13:29.

medal! Danny King, Laura Trott and Jo Rowsell. Willoughby chaplains.

:13:29.:13:33.

Wonderful memories. And what they different challenge yesterday. They

:13:33.:13:40.

spoke to Simon Brotherton. -- Olympic champions. You would involve

:13:40.:13:45.

this morning? It has been really good. We had so many people coming

:13:45.:13:49.

out for that world-record event which we did not get, but it was

:13:50.:13:54.

nice to see so many people riding their bikes. Do you get some feeling

:13:54.:13:59.

of being brought back? That feel-good factor and the flags and

:13:59.:14:04.

people? Definitely, it is all about the public supporting us and after

:14:04.:14:10.

the race, people always congratulating us. It was great to

:14:10.:14:17.

come back and everyone still has that Olympic fever, one year on.

:14:17.:14:21.

the Olympic Games, you road very much as a team and you are wearing

:14:21.:14:25.

the same uniform today but to what extent will you ride as a team?

:14:25.:14:35.

100%. All 41. And on the road, Colin different shots. Different tactics.

:14:35.:14:42.

-- altogether. I am really looking forward to this. Who does this

:14:42.:14:48.

circuit suit best? It depends. If this is an attacking race, probably

:14:48.:14:54.

Jo Rowsell. Myself and Danny, it could be either one. We wish you

:14:54.:15:00.

well. Best of luck. It has been a great day to kick this off with

:15:01.:15:06.

50,000 people trundling around the closed roads of the centre of the

:15:06.:15:10.

capital but now, the final event takes us away from family fun to the

:15:10.:15:14.

elite women's competition and the London grand prix. And they are

:15:14.:15:24.
:15:24.:15:41.

underway. Hannah Barnes in the centre. We have a delayed start. The

:15:41.:15:47.

cyclists have been held on the line for quite a while. Two junior

:15:47.:15:49.

competitors were receiving medical attention on the road. We hope they

:15:49.:15:56.

are OK. But it has been a long time standing around for the riders?

:15:56.:16:01.

Yes, it was over 30 minutes in total. They would have done their

:16:01.:16:05.

worm odds 20 minutes previously, so your legs get a bit shaky and weak

:16:05.:16:10.

standing on the start line. There would have been a lot of nervous

:16:10.:16:16.

girls going off the start line. have a very large field. Do you

:16:16.:16:20.

think that some of the more senior rivals will be keen to cut down the

:16:20.:16:27.

field sooner rather than later? Definitely. There are some really

:16:27.:16:32.

strong teams with MG-Maxifuel and Wiggle Honda. They will put the

:16:32.:16:37.

pressure on from the start. Already we can see riders from the teams

:16:37.:16:43.

that you were mentioning on the front of the pack. Wide boulevards

:16:43.:16:49.

around St James's Park for this women's Grand Prix. The last of the

:16:49.:16:53.

fund cyclists were cleared off the road at about four o'clock. It was a

:16:53.:16:59.

great site earlier today. This looks like the first attack of the day

:16:59.:17:05.

from Katie Colclough. She is riding for a really strong team. She will

:17:05.:17:12.

probably be working form -- for her sprinter, Loren Rowney. She's

:17:12.:17:22.
:17:22.:17:23.

extremely fast. Katie Colclough, a strong rider. She was the under 23

:17:23.:17:26.

British Rd race champion last year. She also has plenty of track

:17:26.:17:33.

experience. She was involved in the British development programme but

:17:34.:17:43.
:17:44.:17:48.

has chosen to go her own way as a road rider at the moment. The

:17:48.:17:50.

cyclists on Horse Guards Parade. They are getting ready to turn left

:17:50.:17:59.

into the Mall. This circuit has a really smooth surface, so I think it

:17:59.:18:06.

will be a fast race. I'm sure that the race will be an attacking race

:18:06.:18:13.

and really exciting. The lack of technicality in the circuit makes it

:18:13.:18:23.
:18:23.:18:23.

easier. But it does make it more difficult for someone to get away.

:18:23.:18:29.

That is right. The straights are quite long. It makes it more

:18:29.:18:34.

difficult to break away and get out of sight. There is a rider from

:18:34.:18:42.

Edinburgh on the front. Katie Archibald. No one attack from

:18:42.:18:52.
:18:52.:18:53.

Harriet Owen. She is showing her face at the front. Harriet Owen just

:18:53.:19:00.

making a little move of the front. Decent crowds enjoying the early

:19:00.:19:07.

evening sunshine in front of ducking and palace. I think it is important

:19:07.:19:13.

in the early stages of the race for a good number of teams to get

:19:13.:19:16.

towards the front to show the jersey. Many of them know that they

:19:16.:19:24.

are unlikely to be there at the end. Yes, that is right. Riders from

:19:24.:19:34.
:19:34.:19:38.

smaller teams need to take cans. -- to take their chance. Hannah Barnes

:19:38.:19:43.

has covered this attack straightaway and she on the counterattack.

:19:43.:19:46.

wondered if she might be tempted to keep our powder dry for the

:19:46.:19:50.

remainder of the race. When it gets to the business end in half an

:19:50.:19:55.

hour's time, she is one of the riders that we expect to see towards

:19:55.:20:00.

the front of the race. She is not afraid to take the wind at the

:20:01.:20:10.
:20:11.:20:11.

moment. She's been followed by New Zealander. Yes, she joined Wiggle

:20:11.:20:15.

Honda for her first year as a professional. This is Laura Trott

:20:15.:20:20.

going towards the front. This is our first chance to see the double

:20:20.:20:26.

Olympic champion. She is the ambassador for RideLondon. She will

:20:26.:20:29.

be the person more than anyone that most of the spectators have come to

:20:29.:20:35.

see. That was closed down quickly by Hannah Barnes. This is an

:20:35.:20:45.
:20:45.:20:46.

interesting start. These are the two strongest riders today. There is a

:20:46.:20:56.
:20:56.:20:57.

bit of rivalry developing between these two. Hannah Barnes did beat

:20:57.:21:02.

Laura Trott in London earlier this summer. Yes, she did. She has won so

:21:02.:21:08.

many races this year. This is Katie Colclough on the front again, making

:21:08.:21:13.

it a hard race. She has Loren Rowney in there, so she is trying to put

:21:14.:21:23.
:21:24.:21:25.

pressure on the other teams. She is heavily marked by Orica. Orica art

:21:25.:21:35.
:21:35.:21:35.

in the light blue, with a little bit of green and yellow on the kit.

:21:35.:21:40.

is Anna Schnitzmeier. She is working for Laura Trott today. She is on the

:21:40.:21:48.

front trying to pick up the pace. Yes, 23 years of age, from Germany.

:21:48.:21:52.

She went to see her first race at the age of 11 and she was racing

:21:52.:21:58.

just 12 months after that. The Wiggle Honda team is effectively the

:21:58.:22:05.

Manchester United of women's racing. Yes, that is fair to say. They are

:22:05.:22:12.

definitely the team to beat. They have so many strong riders. They

:22:12.:22:17.

only have five riders, but each one of them has great qualities. What

:22:17.:22:22.

makes them unique is that the race as a team. Natalie Creswick now

:22:22.:22:32.
:22:32.:22:35.

attacking. She won in Stoke earlier this year. She came second to Hannah

:22:35.:22:41.

Barnes in the Tour series and she may featured as the race goes on.

:22:42.:22:49.

She has got a little bit of a break. It looks like Wiggle Honda are

:22:49.:22:59.
:22:59.:23:12.

working to pull back back. Anna Schnitzmeier is doing the work.

:23:12.:23:17.

Wiggle Honda have five top-level riders. MG-Maxifuel probably have

:23:17.:23:23.

five riders as well. There is strength in numbers. But there is

:23:23.:23:27.

not the strength in depth in some of the teams? In women's cycling, it is

:23:27.:23:31.

very important to have a strong team. The British riders want to do

:23:31.:23:37.

well on home soil. It is so important to have a strong team so

:23:37.:23:40.

they have brought the New Zealander and the German to ensure that they

:23:40.:23:50.
:23:50.:24:00.

have a strong team. She has read in in the UK, Emily Collins, this year.

:24:00.:24:08.

-- she has ridden quite a lot. Emily Collins has that tape on her left

:24:08.:24:18.
:24:18.:24:20.

leg. It makes easy to spot. Here is Joanna Rowsell. She is a gold medal

:24:20.:24:25.

men are -- is a gold medal winner from the Olympics in 2012, and a

:24:25.:24:30.

world champion as well. She is stringing the peloton out at the

:24:30.:24:40.

moment. Once again, Hannah Barnes is up at the front. This is Amanda

:24:40.:24:44.

Spratt from Orica. She will be making the race really hard for

:24:45.:24:52.

everyone. Amanda Spratt is one of the strongest workers on the Orica

:24:52.:24:57.

team. She knows that her job is to make it hard, and make sure that

:24:57.:25:03.

everyone gets stinging legs. She's been closed down by Wiggle Honda,

:25:03.:25:08.

Laura Trott and Dani King. Yes, Dani King on the left-hand side of your

:25:08.:25:17.

screen. Dani King intends to write the London-Surrey 100 tomorrow. It

:25:17.:25:27.
:25:27.:25:29.

is a bit like the London Marathon. -- to ride. There is Laura Trott

:25:29.:25:34.

coming to the front once more. think the peloton will want to close

:25:34.:25:41.

that down. Hannah Barnes has had to close that down. The onus is really

:25:41.:25:46.

on Hannah Barnes. She cannot afford riders from Wiggle Honda or Orica to

:25:46.:25:51.

get away. No one else will be able to bring them back in. Here is Emily

:25:51.:26:00.

Collins. Here she goes again. That is Hannah Barnes chasing down. There

:26:00.:26:05.

is a lot of pressure on Hannah Barnes to close down. There is a

:26:05.:26:08.

crash in the middle of the peloton. Several of the riders have gone to

:26:08.:26:16.

the ground. It looks like one of the Mulebar riders has come off worst of

:26:16.:26:22.

all. It is Natalie Creswick. A few laps ago, she was on the front of

:26:23.:26:27.

the race, and no, potentially she's out of it. That is disappointing for

:26:27.:26:37.
:26:37.:26:40.

her. That was a really nasty fall. She has clearly injured her side,

:26:40.:26:45.

maybe damaged a couple of ribs. It just illustrates that in cycling

:26:45.:26:49.

you're never more than a second or so away from sporting disaster.

:26:49.:26:55.

Everything happened so quickly. Things can be going so well, she was

:26:55.:26:58.

off the front at the beginning of the race, and now it looks like you

:26:58.:27:04.

race is over. Things like that happening bike racing. It is a

:27:04.:27:10.

matter mental strength. You give me a knowing look when you said that. I

:27:10.:27:16.

think you have had some crashes yourself. Yes, ten years of being a

:27:16.:27:22.

sprinter in the women's peloton. It is a dangerous game. I have loved it

:27:22.:27:28.

and enjoyed it, and I did not have a feed of crashing. Two years ago I

:27:28.:27:38.
:27:38.:27:40.

had my worst crash in Verona in the jaded Italia. I broke my pelvis. --

:27:40.:27:48.

in the Giro D'Italia. I had to learn how to walk again. These are the

:27:48.:27:52.

challenges of been a professional cyclist. You almost make it sound

:27:52.:27:57.

like it was part of the job, learning to walk again! I am glad

:27:57.:28:03.

that you were able to get back in the saddle. Emily Collins, riding on

:28:04.:28:08.

the front. She is getting through a lot of work. Katie Archibald in the

:28:08.:28:18.
:28:18.:28:30.

blue and white. Katie Colclough is really making this race exciting.

:28:30.:28:35.

She's putting the hammer down. the future good for riders like

:28:35.:28:41.

Katie Colclough? She is in her early 20s. She was part of the Olympic

:28:41.:28:44.

development programme but she seems to have fallen outside the British

:28:44.:28:51.

system. What prospects for riders like her with these sort of teams?

:28:51.:28:57.

Specialise Lulu Lemon is one of the best teams in the women's peloton.

:28:57.:29:04.

-- specialise Lulu Lemon. I think that Katie Colclough might come back

:29:04.:29:11.

to the track. It is in her mind. Now that the women's pursuit has gone

:29:11.:29:21.
:29:21.:29:22.

out to four kilometres, she could be useful to the British programme.

:29:22.:29:26.

mentioned the Wiggle Honda riders, but other than them, it is the trio

:29:26.:29:34.

from Orica. They are perhaps the key rivals, as well as Hannah Barnes.

:29:34.:29:39.

This is a dangerous move to let Amanda Spratt have a gap like that.

:29:39.:29:43.

She's definitely a strong rider. It looks like Katie Archibald is come

:29:43.:29:53.
:29:53.:29:56.

across. Amanda Spratt on the back of those three but Katie Archibald is

:29:56.:30:05.

still in pole position. She has taken that one out. Getting back

:30:05.:30:10.

onto the wheel. Katie Archibald takes the very first sprint of the

:30:10.:30:19.

race. Here comes the Palatine. Laura Trott sitting right on her wheel.

:30:19.:30:26.

Looking like they are riding as a pair today. And that is the result.

:30:26.:30:36.
:30:36.:30:39.

Katie Archibald taking that. Then Amanda 's brat. Danny King, bringing

:30:39.:30:49.
:30:49.:30:53.

the Palatine. -- Palatine. And Laura Trott stuck on her wheel. I think

:30:53.:30:57.

that they work really well together and have a very close relationship

:30:57.:31:06.

so it comes natural that they stick together. Jo Rowsell, she likes to

:31:06.:31:11.

strike out on her own. And she is such a strong rider and that people

:31:11.:31:18.

don't want her to get away. They know how strong she is and she

:31:18.:31:25.

really hurts. They will close this down because she is a danger.

:31:25.:31:35.
:31:35.:31:37.

is a very useful tactic. There are several cards to play in this team.

:31:37.:31:41.

They just keep attacking and that weakens and takes out the top end

:31:41.:31:45.

speed of the other competitors. They are a definitely putting the

:31:45.:31:55.
:31:55.:32:01.

peoloton under pressure. -- peloton. Was Emily Collins the very first

:32:01.:32:06.

winner for the team this year? was a very big win. It was her first

:32:06.:32:15.

year with the professional team. that was a very big team in Belgium.

:32:15.:32:21.

She was the first ever to win a race with Honda. Emily Collins, powering

:32:21.:32:28.

past horse guards per. Decent crowd staying out to watch this race in

:32:28.:32:38.
:32:38.:32:38.

the evening. -- parade. Trying to close that line. Getting some

:32:38.:32:42.

support not having to do this yourself and the pressure is really

:32:42.:32:52.
:32:52.:33:05.

matrix team coming through. Emily Collins, leading them through the

:33:05.:33:12.

line. Heading into the second sprint laps. It has been a pretty fast race

:33:12.:33:22.
:33:22.:33:23.

so far with riders specifically attacking, particularly Honda.

:33:23.:33:28.

Considering that there have been some attacks, there are quite a lot

:33:28.:33:38.
:33:38.:33:42.

of riders still bear? Quite a very strong field. Helen Wyman, seven

:33:42.:33:48.

years she has one. The European champion. One of the more

:33:48.:33:56.

experienced riders in that peloton. She is on the right of the picture

:33:56.:34:03.

with an orange crash helmet. I think that her speciality, no doubt, her

:34:03.:34:08.

speciality is cycle cross. She will just be gearing up into her season

:34:08.:34:16.

as everybody Weinstein. She is riding very well today. She has put

:34:16.:34:21.

some pressure on this bunch. And she won at Sheffield grand prix a couple

:34:21.:34:25.

of weeks ago although the course was slightly different to this one. It

:34:25.:34:31.

is all good tuning for the legs as she prepares for the winter season

:34:31.:34:40.

that lies ahead. We are seeing what we thought. Lots of riders going to

:34:40.:34:47.

the front and gaining three seconds and perhaps 15 or 25 metres but that

:34:47.:34:53.

does not grow any larger? It is a very difficult course because we

:34:53.:34:57.

always have that rider inside and there are so many left in the bunch,

:34:57.:35:04.

there are a number of people to do this job. She has been doing a lot

:35:04.:35:09.

of work in this race and she is closing down the gap. Emma Grant.

:35:09.:35:15.

She has had a couple of good places this year. She was racing in the

:35:15.:35:19.

United States last year. She also has the strength to test the legs of

:35:19.:35:29.

the rest of the field. Grand, looking comfortable. But, again, as

:35:29.:35:33.

with all of those other attacks, unable to gain any ground. And Katie

:35:33.:35:40.

Archibald, sitting so strong, just if you've metres behind. Emma Grant

:35:40.:35:46.

is not gaining any ground. Katie Archibald, leading the sprint. She

:35:46.:35:50.

is looking to take the second. Not in the best position to do that,

:35:50.:35:57.

having led from the start. Here comes the Dutchwoman, who looks like

:35:58.:36:05.

she has that in the bag. Katie Archibald taking second place.

:36:05.:36:11.

is a very strong rider, she is the captain for the Orica Greenedge team

:36:11.:36:21.
:36:21.:36:27.

in Europe. She was part of that Dutch team. This is a very strong

:36:27.:36:37.
:36:37.:36:40.

move. This is a very interesting move. Laura Trott, her team cannot

:36:40.:36:50.
:36:50.:36:54.

afford to let these get away. She is a very strong rider, Loren Rowney.

:36:54.:37:00.

They will need reeling in. Katie Archibald doing the lion 's share.

:37:00.:37:05.

Trying to get onto the back of that. There is already some activity in

:37:05.:37:09.

black and orange behind her. And also from Helen Barnes. They know

:37:09.:37:15.

that this brake cannot you load to get away. That was interesting to

:37:15.:37:20.

see. Helen on the start about chasing peloton. They have missed

:37:20.:37:30.
:37:30.:37:32.

that move. Wiggle Honda have got that. They have an opportunity.

:37:32.:37:38.

that a slight experience issue? She could afford to just sit there and

:37:38.:37:43.

look at those riders and say, what are you going to do? Because the

:37:43.:37:48.

imperative is very much on the likes of Danny King? It is positive and

:37:48.:37:53.

negative, she is willing to get onto the front and do the work, and she

:37:53.:37:59.

is happy to put in that hard work for herself. Interesting that Danny

:37:59.:38:03.

King heading the front and Laura Trott. Then, Amanda Spratt in third

:38:03.:38:12.

place. As they head towards the final sprint lap. Danny King, trying

:38:12.:38:17.

to wave the others through. Matrix hanging on. Do they have the

:38:17.:38:23.

strength? Danny King was asking for Amanda sprint -- Amanda Spratt to

:38:23.:38:30.

give her a hand? No, I am not having any of this. I want to be in a

:38:30.:38:36.

position with me and one other rider. Hats off to Danny and Laura,

:38:36.:38:39.

you can see that Danny is getting frustrated. She knows that move will

:38:40.:38:46.

not go. To have riders like that, I would not want that either. Amanda

:38:46.:38:51.

Spratt, happily thinking, I will just ride alongside this motor bike

:38:51.:38:57.

and get free ride and that takes me up, great, but she will not

:38:57.:39:00.

contribute to something which might affect a team-mate. Danny King on

:39:00.:39:05.

the front, Laura Trott tucked in behind her. Amanda Spratt, in the

:39:05.:39:10.

blue and white. This is amazing riding from Danny King, she just

:39:11.:39:15.

sacrifices everything she has got for her team-mates and she is

:39:15.:39:20.

obviously feeling some pain in her legs. Whatever she is feeling in her

:39:20.:39:25.

legs, half of them will be feeling that twice as badly. Really strong

:39:25.:39:31.

riding from Danny King. As soon as she stops, somebody else has a go.

:39:31.:39:41.
:39:41.:39:44.

Will this work again? Yes, one of the strongest riders. Helen Wyman,

:39:44.:39:50.

also closing the gap. In that orange crash out. She has got those orange

:39:51.:40:00.
:40:01.:40:05.

patches on her shoulders. -- crash helmet. Matrix also closing down.

:40:05.:40:10.

will try to see who that is. Not gaining any ground at the moment,

:40:10.:40:14.

but she is stringing out the peloton. When the hammer is going

:40:14.:40:21.

down, cyclists suddenly appear in a very long, thin line and if you are

:40:21.:40:26.

at the back, you could be riding just as hard as those at the front,

:40:26.:40:33.

particularly in and out of corners. She almost looks as if she is

:40:33.:40:39.

enjoying herself? Smile on her face? She is extremely professional, she

:40:39.:40:44.

has lots of experience. She is the road leader for the team, she calls

:40:45.:40:54.

the shots in Europe. Another fabulous job to close that time.

:40:54.:40:58.

may not be one of the star names, but she has an aggressive style and

:40:58.:41:06.

she put in the work. She will wiggle -- she will walk before she runs.

:41:06.:41:13.

I'm sure that day will come whenever that Faber is returned. Matrix

:41:13.:41:22.

trying to get into the mix with Emma Grant. Helen Wyman, crossing the

:41:22.:41:28.

line in first place at the moment. The clock says over 36 minutes, so

:41:28.:41:33.

we are about ten minutes away from the end of this race. This is the

:41:33.:41:40.

business end. The peloton is still quite large and that is due to the

:41:40.:41:44.

fast nature of this circuit. Helen Wyman, she is not known as a

:41:44.:41:54.
:41:54.:41:57.

sprinter. And she is looking in fine form. Jessie Walker. Taking second

:41:57.:42:06.

place. Emily Collins, we have seen quite a lot of, in third place. But

:42:06.:42:11.

Amanda Spratt, who has been really animated today, getting in front

:42:11.:42:17.

once again. And we are heading towards the end of this women's

:42:17.:42:27.
:42:27.:42:32.

race. They are making this very hard for Honda. We are coming into the

:42:32.:42:37.

finish they sense the danger back in the peloton. This will be an

:42:37.:42:42.

exciting finish. Plenty of riders in the reckoning, a good number know

:42:42.:42:45.

that this comes down to the sprint and they will not have a chance.

:42:45.:42:52.

Amanda Spratt, really stringing them out. Having struck out for glory on

:42:52.:42:56.

her own at the moment in the closing stages. Inside the final few

:42:56.:43:05.

minutes. And here is Jo Rowsell. Putting the pressure down. She is

:43:05.:43:12.

really hurting the legs of the other riders. This is really going to

:43:12.:43:16.

cause problems for the rest of the riders behind. Someone with the

:43:16.:43:26.
:43:26.:43:27.

power of Juana Russell, this could cause some sports. -- Jo Rowsell.

:43:27.:43:33.

You can see 216 Mac. Helen Barnes ready once this, she has won so many

:43:33.:43:43.
:43:43.:43:45.

of these in the year. -- Helen Ralston. The last event of the

:43:45.:43:50.

opening day of RideLondon. Still plenty of riders in contention.

:43:50.:44:00.
:44:00.:44:01.

Helen Barnes, number one, the white jersey. 20 years old, she won the

:44:01.:44:04.

series long series featured on television so she has had a very

:44:04.:44:09.

good year this season. In a lot of promise but in a lot of work to do

:44:09.:44:16.

in the next two laps. Just under two laps left to go. Very strong attack

:44:16.:44:24.

coming from Anna Schnitzmeier. They want to close down everything. She

:44:24.:44:32.

must have something left in her legs to be able to do that. Charline

:44:32.:44:42.
:44:42.:44:49.

Joiner. And Julie Erskine. They will give absolutely everything right

:44:49.:44:59.
:44:59.:45:03.

now. Charline Joiner, she took up cycling as rehabilitation when she

:45:03.:45:06.

was injured as a hockey player. It is amazing the number of riders who

:45:06.:45:11.

first took up the sport when injured doing something else. That is what I

:45:11.:45:17.

was saying about injury, you have to work so hard to get back but you get

:45:17.:45:20.

back to a much higher level than before. And cycling is often a very

:45:20.:45:30.

big part of that. And a good number decide to stick with it. Laura Trott

:45:30.:45:36.

in the centre of your picture. Dani King is going through in second

:45:36.:45:44.

place. Loren Rowney is on about seventh place. We have about a lap

:45:45.:45:51.

and one third to go. Anna Schnitzmeier has done a fabulous

:45:51.:45:56.

job, to do this in the last couple of laps. She is making sure there is

:45:56.:46:01.

lots of pressure on the peloton. It will be interesting to see if the

:46:01.:46:11.
:46:11.:46:16.

setup the sprint for Laura Trott Dani King. This could be set up a

:46:16.:46:21.

recommend this sprint finish on the Mall. We have the three leaders,

:46:21.:46:24.

Charline Joiner leading them up the finishing straight towards taking

:46:24.:46:30.

the bell. Anna Schnitzmeier this right behind. Julie Erskine is

:46:30.:46:40.
:46:40.:46:45.

hanging on. She has dropped back. It is Anna Christian, the national

:46:45.:46:50.

junior champion from the Isle of Man, just 17 years of age. They

:46:50.:46:54.

cannot afford to hesitate, the bunch is closing in. What an amazing

:46:54.:47:01.

crowd. That was an amazing sound from the banging on the barriers.

:47:01.:47:07.

The bunch is coming pretty quickly. This will be some final lap. I do

:47:07.:47:13.

not think that these three will stay away. The pack will gobble them up

:47:13.:47:17.

before the end. Katie Colclough on the front, with the black slaves,

:47:17.:47:27.
:47:27.:47:32.

from Specialized. -- black sleeves. Charline Joiner in the sky blue.

:47:32.:47:41.

Anna Schnitzmeier from is -- from Wiggle Honda. That is a fabulous

:47:41.:47:46.

effort from these riders. They have put their sprinters in a good

:47:46.:47:52.

edition, the other teams have to work. They are heading past Horse

:47:52.:47:56.

Guards Parade. Some of the riders are choosing to take the right-hand

:47:56.:48:01.

split in the road. There is some road furniture to negotiate, some

:48:01.:48:09.

speed bumps. The final tense moments. We are halfway round the

:48:09.:48:16.

final lap. A number of riders are still in contention. All of the big

:48:16.:48:24.

names are near the front now. is Emily Collins coming to take the

:48:24.:48:34.
:48:34.:48:39.

lead. There is a crash. It is one of the Wiggle Honda riders. It is

:48:39.:48:47.

Joanna Rowsell. Five riders taken out by that. I think Helen Ralston

:48:47.:48:51.

was the first to hit the deck. At the front of the race, Emily Collins

:48:51.:48:58.

leading the way. Joanna Rowsell has fallen heavily. Here is the crash

:48:58.:49:04.

once again. That was a very nasty fall for several riders, including

:49:04.:49:09.

Joanna Rowsell. She is the world and Olympic champion with the number

:49:09.:49:15.

nine on her back. That was a heavy fall. I would not be surprised if

:49:15.:49:21.

that is a serious injury. There are 400 metres to go. The finish will

:49:21.:49:28.

look so enticing. They can see the line as they come round the corner.

:49:28.:49:32.

300 metres to go, Emily Collins on the front with Amanda Spratt in

:49:32.:49:38.

second place. Hannah Barnes is biding her time. Dani King is in the

:49:38.:49:48.
:49:48.:49:49.

centre of your picture with Laura Trott on her real. -- we will. Laura

:49:49.:49:52.

Trott is coming through the centre, Laura Trott against Hannah Barnes,

:49:52.:49:58.

and Laura Trott takes the win. Right in front of the King Palace, the

:49:58.:50:03.

rider who is the ambassador for the race, Laura Trott, takes the victory

:50:03.:50:12.

that most of the crowd have come to see. -- Buckingham Palace. That was

:50:12.:50:17.

a hard race to judge in the headwind. Dani King started out

:50:17.:50:25.

early and Laura Trott came off her real. That was a greatly dead. She

:50:25.:50:32.

put her in the perfect edition. It was pure desire that Laura Trott got

:50:32.:50:38.

to the finish line first. Hannah Barnes was not far away. She rode a

:50:38.:50:46.

superb race, Hannah Barnes. Teamwork came into play in the last half a

:50:46.:50:56.
:50:56.:51:19.

have been doing so much this weekend, and everyone is like, I am

:51:19.:51:24.

rooting for you. I was like, I have got to pull this off. The team

:51:24.:51:28.

worked amazingly. We did not go in with a plan that I was the sprinter.

:51:28.:51:35.

We made it aggressive. 100 riders is a lot of riders. We decided that we

:51:35.:51:42.

were going to attack, and nothing stayed away. With five laps to go,

:51:42.:51:47.

we decided to chase, rather than attack. Dani King and I said nothing

:51:47.:51:53.

to each other, it was just the way it happened. Coming into the finish,

:51:53.:51:58.

she absolutely floored it. I would not have won without her. I knew

:51:58.:52:01.

when she hit the front that there was no chance of anyone coming

:52:01.:52:07.

around. Your made up with this? Guess, I am so happy. It was such a

:52:07.:52:11.

long way to the finish and I wanted to hold it as late as possible.

:52:11.:52:15.

Laura Trott got the better of me. I cannot complain, coming second to

:52:15.:52:23.

Laura. What was it like, racing is your? It was amazing, in front of

:52:23.:52:28.

Buckingham Palace. Being in the national jersey as well, I was

:52:28.:52:33.

hoping that the Queen would come out. It is tough to counter the team

:52:33.:52:38.

as strong as Wiggle Honda in a race like this. Yes, it is their home

:52:38.:52:44.

country and you have three Olympic champion so it will always be tough.

:52:44.:52:47.

As an experience within your season, how would you rate this as an

:52:47.:52:54.

occasion? I think the way it has been run and the crowds, it is

:52:54.:52:57.

probably the best atmosphere that have raced in this year. I hope this

:52:58.:53:03.

event grows and more teams come. Laura Trott are very popular

:53:03.:53:09.

winner. Alongside me, Rochelle Gilmore. She is the reigning

:53:09.:53:15.

Commonwealth Games champion. Updaters and Joanna Rowsell. It was

:53:16.:53:21.

terrible to see. Mixed emotions at the finish. Laura Trott crossing the

:53:21.:53:24.

line first, but knowing that Joanna Rowsell was at the end of the course

:53:25.:53:30.

being put onto a stretcher. She has broken her collar bone. She will

:53:30.:53:36.

need surgery and will head to Manchester today. We have had great

:53:36.:53:39.

support from British cycling. long will rehabilitation be before

:53:39.:53:45.

she is racing on a bike? It will only be about two weeks of the bike.

:53:45.:53:49.

She is determined and she feels really quickly. She will be back on

:53:49.:53:54.

the bike in a couple of weeks. great result for Laura Trott and for

:53:54.:54:00.

Wiggle Honda. Did the race go the way you anticipated? Yes, if I had a

:54:00.:54:03.

check list of the things that the riders had to do yesterday, they did

:54:03.:54:09.

it perfectly. We had ambitions to win, not specifically with Laura

:54:09.:54:14.

Trott. They are so professional that they do not need clear

:54:14.:54:21.

instructions. The road a perfect race. It was not easy for them.

:54:21.:54:25.

King and Laura Trott, they have a great relationship on the track, but

:54:25.:54:30.

they have taken out onto the road? Guess, they know each other so well.

:54:30.:54:36.

They said they did not have to speak coming into the finish of the race.

:54:36.:54:40.

Laura Trott has so much dedication and support from Dani King. She

:54:40.:54:44.

knows that if Dani King goes longer, she can come off and win the

:54:44.:54:49.

race. Yesterday, Dani King did a perfectly dead. A little word on

:54:49.:54:54.

women's cycling. There has been a lot of talk about the Tour de France

:54:54.:54:59.

and having a women's race. How do you see the strength of the sport?

:54:59.:55:05.

think yesterday speaks loudly about cycling in the UK. The crowds were

:55:05.:55:10.

unbelievable. The women's race was the main event. They were here to

:55:10.:55:15.

see the women. They were here to see the Olympic champions and women's

:55:15.:55:20.

racing in general. It was a good show, like we had in London for the

:55:20.:55:26.

Olympics. When women cycling gets an opportunity that there is an

:55:26.:55:30.

exciting race, we have done a great job and the fans love it.

:55:30.:55:34.

women's Grand Prix was not the only race last night. There was also a

:55:34.:55:43.

junior race and a hand cycle race. Jill Douglas has the story. Jody

race together, and when they came to the finish, a group of four had an

:56:13.:56:23.
:56:23.:56:24.

advantage. The leader was a double Olympic champion. The overall winner

:56:24.:56:27.

was the reigning Paralympic champion. He won the sprint to the

:56:27.:56:37.
:56:37.:56:38.

finish. The Swiss rider was third. finish. The Swiss rider was third.

:56:38.:56:40.

It is amazing. I thought that they had lots of cyclists in China, but

:56:40.:56:46.

London is also a big cycling city. I am surprised. London has more

:56:46.:56:51.

cyclists than the whole world. good news is that you want, but you

:56:51.:56:55.

do not have time to pick up your prize on the podium? I am sorry

:56:55.:57:00.

about this. I have to go back to Austria. Tomorrow we have an

:57:00.:57:07.

important national championship. I feel sorry about not been here, but

:57:07.:57:16.

I have to go back for an important race. This was the first woman over

:57:16.:57:23.

the line. She was able to enjoy her podium moment. Great Britain

:57:23.:57:26.

podium moment. Great Britain finished in second and third place.

:57:26.:57:29.

Then there were some aspiring champions of the future in the youth

:57:29.:57:36.

cycle. It was an opportunity for under 16s to experience the big race

:57:36.:57:43.

atmosphere. This solo breakaway was maintained until the final lap. But

:57:43.:57:50.

he was caught by the chasing he was caught by the chasing

:57:50.:57:59.

peloton. Let's focus on today's action.

:57:59.:58:04.

Earlier this morning, the Olympic Park was a hive of activity as

:58:04.:58:10.

several riders got ready for the London-Surrey 100. There were lots

:58:10.:58:16.

of famous faces taking part. I am joined by Matt Dawson and James

:58:16.:58:26.
:58:26.:58:27.

Cracknell. You must be excited about this race. I am buzzing. I did the

:58:27.:58:31.

marathon a few years ago, and I was quite apprehensive and nervous, but

:58:31.:58:38.

I have a good feeling about this. James has given me lots of tips. I

:58:38.:58:44.

am cycling for a great charity. What could go wrong? I already went wrong

:58:44.:58:50.

this morning. I put my number on the front and it is meant to be on the

:58:50.:58:55.

back. Apart from that, I am a bit apprehensive and nervous. I do not

:58:55.:59:00.

know how I will manage 100 miles on a bike. But I have done a bit of

:59:00.:59:10.
:59:10.:59:13.

training, but properly not enough. am vice president of the brain

:59:13.:59:15.

injury Association following an accident with the tracking the

:59:15.:59:25.
:59:25.:59:31.

United States. I am raising awareness. Unfortunately, with

:59:31.:59:36.

cyclists and horse riders, there is a massive amount of unseen injury.

:59:36.:59:43.

Guys, it is a beautiful day. It could hear beautiful race as well.

:59:43.:59:47.

Is it a race or is it a challenge? It has got to be a challenge, 100

:59:47.:59:55.

miles. I am going for six hours. have been training for this one?

:59:55.:00:03.

Yes, I probably do close to 100 miles a week on my commute. Like

:00:03.:00:09.

John, I am feeling nervous. I was really well one week ago. But now

:00:10.:00:14.

you see all these people who look so professional. It starts to sink in

:00:14.:00:23.

that it is a big deal. To see so many people cycling into Olympic

:00:23.:00:32.

Park. And it looks very different today, rather than Chris Whitehead

:00:32.:00:38.

and Bradley Wiggins, it is a six-pack we shall speak to James

:00:38.:00:43.

Cracknell later on. There was no sign of map Dawson. Still lots of

:00:43.:00:53.
:00:53.:00:57.

people finishing, lots of people out there. -- it is us! I am joined by

:00:57.:01:02.

four people who have already achieved superhuman efforts on the

:01:02.:01:09.

bicycle, Land's End to John O'Groats. This is the climax? We

:01:09.:01:16.

have done Land's End to John O'Groats and three in France and the

:01:16.:01:21.

culmination of fundraising efforts was 50,000, were me go past

:01:21.:01:26.

Kingston in an effort to release smashed that target. I will come to

:01:26.:01:33.

you. Slightly smaller. Average sized! It will be great, riding

:01:33.:01:39.

through Kingston and also the Mall on that Olympic course? It will be

:01:39.:01:45.

phenomenal. This could be a massive event in a few years and to be

:01:45.:01:49.

involved with the very first one is fantastic and hopefully our family

:01:49.:01:58.

and friends will be in Kingston. Tell us about that figure, 50,000?

:01:58.:02:02.

That was the figure given to us last year as the might of money it cost

:02:02.:02:09.

to run a nurse for Macmillan for one year with training and wages. And

:02:09.:02:15.

they do fantastic stuff. Yes, very few people these days are not

:02:15.:02:23.

touched by cancer in some way. is going through your head before?

:02:23.:02:27.

You have done challenges before but you do have a lot of people guiding

:02:27.:02:36.

you through this? And 20,000 others? It is just sensational, for me, such

:02:36.:02:42.

an amazing pinnacle to a crazy year and for cycling, it is just an

:02:42.:02:47.

amazing event, the size is phenomenal. Little bit of nerves.

:02:47.:02:52.

But we are used to doing 120 miles every day with that challenge but

:02:52.:02:58.

this will still be fantastic. Brilliant. The sun has come out,

:02:58.:03:03.

just in time to set. Good luck! Enjoy the ride and congratulations

:03:03.:03:11.

on your fundraising. The end of this event will be like the London

:03:11.:03:15.

Marathon on wheels, one of the largest one-day fundraising events

:03:15.:03:21.

and it has been a very good start. We are building up to the classic.

:03:21.:03:26.

We have been looking forward to a great race? Fantastic race. We have

:03:26.:03:36.
:03:36.:03:43.

the double green jersey winner Peter Sagan. And David Mellor is here. And

:03:43.:03:50.

Gerald Ciolek. We are expecting a finish with a very large group

:03:50.:03:52.

because one third of this is climbing so that comes into the

:03:52.:03:57.

middle of the course. If this does split things up, there is plenty of

:03:57.:04:02.

opportunity to come back. There are only six riders for every team so to

:04:02.:04:07.

control the race is harder. But a very good race in prospect. You

:04:07.:04:10.

mentioned that the course is different from the Olympic road

:04:10.:04:16.

race. That's how they look. Starting at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

:04:16.:04:21.

passing Canary Wharf, the Tower of London. Across the Thames, through

:04:21.:04:27.

the cycling mecca that is Richmond Park. And into the picturesque

:04:27.:04:37.
:04:37.:04:37.

countryside. Newlands Corner, back towards central London. And back

:04:37.:04:46.

across the Thames, over the Embankment and finishing, the

:04:46.:04:51.

opposite way to the Olympic road race, at the mall. We sold with the

:04:51.:04:55.

women's Grand Prix, the importance of a very strong team in controlling

:04:55.:05:01.

the race. That will be important? Is It very tough out there so that if

:05:01.:05:06.

they want to come down to a sprint, the sprinter must be dependent on

:05:06.:05:09.

team-mates and the better the job of the team-mates, the fresher the legs

:05:09.:05:15.

of the sprinter. We saw Wiggle Honda supporting or trot very well and she

:05:15.:05:19.

had more power at the finish so it will be very important for the team

:05:19.:05:29.
:05:29.:05:33.

as a whole. We mentioned some names but here are the ones to watch.

:05:33.:05:39.

like London very well, after a very tough Tour of France, maybe I won't

:05:39.:05:45.

have too much pressure, you know? I can start good with this race and I

:05:45.:05:55.
:05:55.:05:58.

want to make good reparation. British public prove that they are

:05:58.:06:02.

the best because they very rarely get to see excitement levels through

:06:02.:06:07.

the roof. And I also have Peter Sagan, so that makes it harder, he

:06:07.:06:12.

is the green jersey winner from that. One of the best sprinters in

:06:12.:06:18.

the world. But I think there are a lot of people who don't want this to

:06:18.:06:28.
:06:28.:06:28.

finish in a sprint and I am one of those. This is not easy but we shall

:06:29.:06:34.

see the sprint. In other races in the UK, Olympic races, what I

:06:35.:06:43.

remember always is a lot of spectators and great public. That

:06:43.:06:49.

keeps up motivation. It is very good for the riders. It will be amazing.

:06:49.:06:54.

The Olympics last year was one thing but this is such a one-off, special

:06:54.:06:59.

event and it is nice to do this in more relaxed circumstances. It is

:06:59.:07:06.

always nice to finish in big cities. In front of big buildings and I

:07:06.:07:15.

think that is nice. I want to be on the front. And for the sprint, I

:07:15.:07:25.
:07:25.:07:29.

want to do well. Another couple of riders, Ben Swift. And also Matthew

:07:29.:07:39.
:07:39.:07:40.

Goss. These boys hope there could be as Brent to the end. You had a very

:07:40.:07:46.

difficult journey to the start line? It has been an very long week,

:07:46.:07:50.

starting in Italy. We have that European trip to get here but it is

:07:50.:07:55.

nice to be back. That jet set lifestyle! But you are very keen to

:07:55.:08:00.

get back onto these roads in front of the home crowd? This is the very

:08:00.:08:05.

first time Britain has had a very big one-day race and there is a very

:08:05.:08:11.

good field. You were not able to make the squad last year. Are you

:08:11.:08:17.

keen to do the business this time? We will give it a very good go. It

:08:17.:08:23.

is quite tough. It is looking pretty fast back to the finish with a very

:08:23.:08:32.

strong tailwind. I am sure it will be brilliant. And alongside me,

:08:32.:08:39.

Matthew Goss. You have been recovering? I am starting to get

:08:39.:08:48.

back onto my bike. But it is great to come back 12 months on. It is

:08:48.:08:51.

just great to see a one-day race like this and hopefully it keeps

:08:51.:08:56.

going forward. Having ridden on the same course or similar last year,

:08:56.:09:05.

how will this play up? Sprint to the mile? Hopefully. But it shall be up

:09:05.:09:10.

and down, it will not be straightforward. There is a very

:09:10.:09:17.

good chance of bunch spread but with six riders for every team, it will

:09:17.:09:21.

be harder to control. We wish both of you the very best of luck. And

:09:21.:09:26.

hopefully it could be an England, Australia race at the end. Best of

:09:27.:09:36.
:09:37.:09:37.

luck. It is like the Ashes on a bike! Simon Brotherton will join the

:09:37.:09:41.

commentary team shortly. Everybody seems to be calling this a lunch

:09:41.:09:51.
:09:51.:09:51.

sprint. It would be a very exciting finish. -- bunch. If it comes to

:09:51.:09:57.

that, it will be very exciting. talk about the Olympic road race,

:09:57.:10:01.

there was the breakaway that one that what with the likes of David

:10:01.:10:09.

Mellor, he will be very highly motivated. -- David Millar. It is

:10:09.:10:15.

very hard to control. There would be a chance for somebody like him to

:10:15.:10:24.

breakaway and he does not want that to come down to the bunch. And

:10:24.:10:30.

having said that, Peter Sagan, described by Mark Cavendish is one

:10:30.:10:36.

in a generation. He can do both? He is one of the crowd favourites after

:10:36.:10:42.

the Tour de France. He is such an exciting rider. He will not want to

:10:42.:10:47.

let anybody go. And he is strong enough to cover so many moves. In

:10:47.:10:51.

terms of recovery from the Tour de France, it was three very hard

:10:51.:11:00.

weeks, including Peter Sagan. about recovery? Well, Matthew Goss

:11:00.:11:06.

said he has been relaxing on his couch. I imagine it would be very

:11:06.:11:10.

hard for these boys to recover with just a couple of weeks. It is such a

:11:10.:11:14.

demanding race and I know from myself, if we race for a couple of

:11:14.:11:21.

weeks, it takes over one week to recover. Perhaps Gerald Ciolek is

:11:21.:11:26.

not known to many people but he also won in Milan in a sprint finish. It

:11:26.:11:34.

will be very exciting to see Matthew Goss come to that sprint at the end.

:11:34.:11:40.

After being on the couch for one week! We could see a very

:11:40.:11:43.

competitive hundred and Christopher Sutton at the very end of this. None

:11:43.:11:47.

of the names that the British public are used to, but the Wiggins or

:11:47.:11:57.
:11:57.:12:04.

Chris Froome. What do you know about Ben Swift? -- Bradley. Competition

:12:04.:12:09.

will be very high. A number of the riders, just six members in every

:12:09.:12:13.

team as opposed to nine of them. Does that make it ethical to

:12:13.:12:20.

control? For the bigger teams, they will find it more difficult, like

:12:20.:12:28.

Orica Greenedge. This is new. Other teams that are not as strong, they

:12:28.:12:33.

are used to driving -- riding with six strong men. Bigger teams will

:12:33.:12:37.

find it more difficult to control but this opens things up for a more

:12:37.:12:42.

exciting race with less men. And fewer alliances on the road?

:12:42.:12:51.

Absolutely. Conversations will take place, if somebody needs help, that

:12:51.:12:56.

quite often happens in cycling, they will have conversations, let us help

:12:56.:13:01.

each other out and then we will go for the win. Back to the commentary

:13:01.:13:07.

team, Rob Hayles and Simon Brotherton. Ready for the

:13:07.:13:17.
:13:17.:13:25.

centrepiece race. The Prudential 20,000 people have already set out

:13:25.:13:32.

on this route. Rob Hills has made this before the start of the race.

:13:33.:13:40.

This is the very essence of what cycling is. You can ride on the same

:13:40.:13:44.

roads and feel the same pain that comes through the hard effort. But

:13:44.:13:52.

ever effort you are at, you can have empathy with the athletes. You can

:13:52.:13:57.

really get in and see the riders. You can ride on the roads. But they

:13:57.:14:03.

are doing that. But to be able to go over the roads and watch the elite

:14:03.:14:13.
:14:13.:14:14.

race. And pinpoint exactly where they are. And cycling is like that

:14:14.:14:18.

and all of the riders that there are, it is open to everybody.

:14:18.:14:21.

Looking at those bikes going through, we will watch some of those

:14:21.:14:27.

riders coming through. We did some calculation is and we reckon that on

:14:27.:14:35.

the side of caution, there are over 40 million worth of bicycles.

:14:35.:14:38.

Absolutely incredible. And the way that those riders have come through

:14:38.:14:43.

the finish today, they absolutely emptied themselves and they are

:14:43.:14:48.

cheering themselves on and there are individuals and groups going

:14:48.:14:56.

together, it is absolutely fantastic to see. And I am glad to see Boris

:14:56.:15:02.

having engineered the weather yet again! The start of this race.

:15:02.:15:12.
:15:12.:15:19.

Starting from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. 12 months on. That is

:15:19.:15:29.
:15:29.:15:31.

a good turnout today. Next spring, the cycling park will open. It will

:15:31.:15:35.

be the first venue in the world to bring together the four disciplines

:15:35.:15:44.

of track, road, mountain biking and BMX in one venue. This is where the

:15:44.:15:50.

Olympic velodrome was. London is currently bidding to host the 2016

:15:50.:15:55.

track World Championships. There will be an event date in March of

:15:55.:16:02.

next year. What do you think might happen in the early stages? Some of

:16:02.:16:06.

the British professional teams might be keen to show their jerseys in the

:16:06.:16:11.

opening kilometres? That is right. There are all up at the front as

:16:11.:16:19.

expected. James McCallum, Rapha Condor JLT. He is a former Scottish

:16:19.:16:25.

National road race champion. Sigma Sport are also on the front. There

:16:25.:16:33.

are two of the rally riders. Node four are right in there. -- Team

:16:33.:16:40.

Raleigh riders. Are any of them likely to finish at the sharp end

:16:40.:16:50.

today? It is possible, but more than likely not. Someone like Kristian

:16:50.:16:54.

House, from Rapha Condor, again, a former Mountain jersey winner from

:16:54.:17:01.

the two that Britain. Here he is in the centre of the shot. I imagine

:17:01.:17:06.

that he would be keen to get up the road. Kristian House, we will be

:17:06.:17:11.

seeing him in the early stages, a former British national champion.

:17:11.:17:16.

The riders start to wind their way through London. They will head

:17:16.:17:21.

across central London before heading south west over the river. This is a

:17:21.:17:30.

long race. You wonder if many of the British professionals will be in the

:17:30.:17:37.

business end of the race at the end. They do not have many of these races

:17:37.:17:40.

of this length and intensity. It is more like a criterion -based

:17:40.:17:50.
:17:50.:17:54.

programme. This is the issue. -- criterium. The staple diet of the

:17:54.:17:59.

British riders is criterium is. Those races only last for an hour.

:17:59.:18:05.

To come to a race like this, it is a tall order. Many of the riders will

:18:05.:18:10.

have raced over that distance, but it is just the amount of times they

:18:10.:18:14.

are subjected to that distance and the intensity. This is the route

:18:14.:18:24.
:18:24.:18:24.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 52 seconds

:18:24.:19:17.

from commentary positions in Italy and France this summer, but I think

:19:17.:19:20.

this is well up there. I am happy with the view we have got at the

:19:20.:19:25.

moment. There are plenty of pictures, and quite a few of them

:19:25.:19:30.

are empty at the moment, but they will no doubt fill up. The riders

:19:30.:19:34.

are winging their way back to the Mall. We are expecting thousands

:19:34.:19:40.

upon thousands at the finish. Every time that the British put on an

:19:40.:19:46.

event like this, whether it be they could of Britain, a fantastic

:19:46.:19:49.

weekend of Olympic road race is that we had, and let's not forget the

:19:49.:19:55.

women's race. How bad was the weather? But the people were out in

:19:55.:20:05.
:20:05.:20:08.

their thousands. We are expecting more of the same today. They dispute

:20:08.:20:13.

are sagging. He is the man that everyone is talking about. -- Vedas

:20:13.:20:23.
:20:23.:20:24.

Peter Sagan. He was a little bit underwhelming in the Tour de France.

:20:24.:20:31.

I say that although he did win his third consecutive green jersey.

:20:31.:20:34.

won three stages in the first week last week. This year, just the one

:20:34.:20:41.

stage. I was having a low, four times he finished second in this

:20:41.:20:48.

year's Tour de France. He finished in the top four in nine of the 21

:20:48.:20:53.

stages. Exactly, but from a visual perspective, he was quite

:20:53.:21:01.

underwhelming. He was not underwhelming on the final day. He

:21:01.:21:06.

was quite overwhelming, with his green beard and everything else. He

:21:06.:21:10.

really got into the spirit of things. Fortunately he has managed

:21:10.:21:16.

to wash that I'd. Mark Cavendish, having won that green jersey a

:21:16.:21:19.

couple of years ago, all things being equal, he has his work cut out

:21:19.:21:26.

to win it again. Peter Sagan is a good all-round rider. He can spread

:21:26.:21:29.

pretty well and they can get over the claims better than Mark

:21:29.:21:37.

Cavendish. This is his strength. I saw a poster this week. It was a

:21:37.:21:43.

picture of Peter Sagan in his green jersey, saying, the world's fastest

:21:43.:21:52.

sprinter. That is not true. It is just that they can get himself over

:21:52.:22:02.
:22:02.:22:10.

the hardest stages that the out and sprinters cannot. There will be a

:22:10.:22:14.

queue of traffic somewhere with those riders heading down the 12.

:22:14.:22:18.

am sure there are lots of motorists complaining that a greater is

:22:18.:22:27.

blocking up the roads. But it makes a change from the cars! They are

:22:27.:22:32.

heading down the south bank of the river. They will turn right and head

:22:32.:22:38.

into the centre of London. The peloton with a rolling start today.

:22:38.:22:44.

They are getting loosened up. The women's race was delayed last night.

:22:44.:22:51.

A couple of them -- a couple of riders were injured in a previous

:22:51.:22:58.

race. No such problems today for the mens rea is. They are following in

:22:58.:23:02.

the real tracks of 20,000 cyclists who set off today in the

wheel tracks. Mild but blustery conditions today. It is surprisingly

:23:25.:23:30.

windy. Yes, and it will be interesting to see what happens when

:23:30.:23:40.
:23:40.:23:45.

we head for the site. Hopefully it will stay dry. I do not think there

:23:45.:23:50.

will be any rain. Hopefully not, because there are lots of shadows

:23:50.:23:54.

and undercover trees on the circuit. Yes, there are lots of narrow

:23:55.:24:00.

country roads in Surrey. It is a beautiful place to go cycling, but

:24:00.:24:04.

lots of the trees meet in the middle of the above your head. Potential

:24:04.:24:10.

damp patches. It certainly was when I was last upon Leith Hill. We will

:24:11.:24:19.

have to keep an eye on that. The O2, the world's busiest

:24:19.:24:25.

entertainment venue. I cannot believe it has been a year since the

:24:25.:24:32.

Olympics. It was a year ago today that Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell and

:24:32.:24:38.

Dani King wonder gold medal in the team pursuit. Per Joanna Rowsell.

:24:38.:24:43.

Waking up this morning getting ready for surgery on her collar bone.

:24:44.:24:48.

she will have surgery on that. We know she is watching and we wish her

:24:48.:24:54.

well. We wish her a speedy recovery. I know that she will be back in the

:24:54.:25:04.
:25:04.:25:09.

saddle again soon. Nearly time to get racing now. Some of the riders

:25:09.:25:14.

are going up to the commerce's car. That is out there because the is

:25:15.:25:24.
:25:25.:25:27.

still neutralised. -- going up to the referee's car. Can you explain

:25:27.:25:33.

why you have a neutralised section? They do it in the Tour de France.

:25:33.:25:37.

They do. Often it is to put a little bit of a circuit through the

:25:37.:25:42.

starting time. A lot of the towns first stage races like the Tour de

:25:42.:25:47.

France, they pay a lot of money and they like to get a little bit of a

:25:47.:25:53.

showcase of the time. Often the roads are too dangerous to race on,

:25:53.:26:00.

so the neutralised section is just to get the riders under way, and get

:26:00.:26:09.

them out onto the open roads. They put in these circuits to give the

:26:09.:26:14.

local crowd is an eye for the racing. It does get the riders under

:26:14.:26:20.

way and it is a bit of a legless now. But normally, when the flag

:26:20.:26:24.

comes in, the general rule of thumb is that someone will attack. We will

:26:25.:26:30.

have to wait and see what they do. They all looked like greyhounds

:26:30.:26:40.
:26:40.:26:40.

waiting to be let out of the traps. A lot of the British riders are

:26:40.:26:50.

starting to come up to the front. Vacansoleil on the left-hand side.

:26:50.:26:56.

There is a Node 4-Giordana rider on the front. They are keen to get into

:26:56.:27:02.

the action. Not necessarily to put in an attack, but if you can stay at

:27:02.:27:06.

the front, it is often much easier than being further back and the

:27:06.:27:11.

concertina effect from the peloton. You need to be vigilant in the

:27:11.:27:17.

opening kilometres. You can see riders coming up on the right-hand

:27:17.:27:20.

side of the screen, trying to move forward, one of the Argos-Shimano

:27:20.:27:30.
:27:30.:27:33.

riders. The lead car has had to speed up, I think! Ian Bibby on the

:27:33.:27:43.
:27:43.:27:43.

right-hand side of the screen. Nearly time to get underway, and the

:27:43.:27:49.

race is under as the flag disappears. The London Sony classic

:27:49.:27:52.

is officially underway, and the rider from Vacansoleil coming

:27:52.:27:59.

towards the front. That was not the attack we were expecting, it was

:27:59.:28:08.

just to get things away. Liam Holahan in second and Kristian House

:28:08.:28:16.

in third. I'm pretty sure that he will be fairly active. He will be

:28:16.:28:21.

desperate to get up the road. He was very active in the Olympic test

:28:21.:28:26.

event that ran out from the Mall. It was three laps over the Olympic

:28:26.:28:36.
:28:36.:28:37.

circuit. A wonderful panoramic view of London. We are looking towards

:28:37.:28:42.

the centre of time. That is where the riders are headed for at this

:28:42.:28:47.

particular moment. -- towards the centre of the city. This is Canary

:28:47.:28:57.
:28:57.:29:04.

Wharf. 100,000 people work there. Until the 50s, these were one of the

:29:04.:29:14.
:29:14.:29:18.

busiest dogs in the world. -- docks. It also hosts the Tour Series.

:29:18.:29:23.

criterium races are based on a one kilometre circuit. That is the

:29:23.:29:29.

hotbed for the British talent. That is why today is such an uphill

:29:29.:29:35.

battle for so many of them, going from one kilometre circuit to over

:29:35.:29:41.

an hour. It is difficult for them to get the kind of workload that they

:29:41.:29:49.

need, to intersperse road racing as well. When you look at this rate, is

:29:49.:29:54.

it tough enough to give us a real sorting out? The thing that we

:29:54.:30:00.

mentioned before is the fact that it is only six riders for every team

:30:00.:30:10.
:30:10.:30:12.

and a couple of teams are down to only five. Gerald Ciolek, he is down

:30:12.:30:20.

to only Ford team-mates already. -- for. It is harder for teams to

:30:20.:30:26.

control and that is what we saw with the Olympics. Mark Cavendish, his

:30:26.:30:30.

attempt, and they tried to do what they did to replicate what they did

:30:31.:30:33.

the year before but with less riders and with having only five

:30:33.:30:39.

team-mates, it is so much harder, you have to be so much more

:30:39.:30:46.

attentive. And also, some luck comes into this and wanting to have other

:30:46.:30:52.

teams coming and working with you. We have about five teams who want to

:30:52.:31:02.
:31:02.:31:03.

come down to the sprint, Team Sky are one of them. Orica Greenedge.

:31:03.:31:13.
:31:13.:31:16.

Cannondale Pro Cycling. Probably Bardiani Valvole CSF INOX as well.

:31:16.:31:21.

So, they are the teams that you would expect to want this to come

:31:21.:31:27.

back to the sprint finish. If they can work, that makes it easier for

:31:27.:31:35.

them to come back. On the other hand, teams like what we can see, he

:31:35.:31:45.
:31:45.:31:46.

will not want this to come back to this -- to the sprint finish. So,

:31:46.:31:54.

Peter Sedan, he has got his work cut out. -- Peter Sagan. Depending on

:31:54.:32:03.

the Tour France, I am sure he would have ridden since then. How his legs

:32:03.:32:08.

are feeling, we will have to wait and see. But this circuit is not

:32:08.:32:16.

tough enough to really trouble any of the continental professionals.

:32:16.:32:25.

This sorting out process with breakers and eventually, one or more

:32:25.:32:32.

of them are allowed to get away. Just a little attack on the side of

:32:32.:32:42.

the road. Team IG-Sigma Sport have got one up there. The British teams

:32:42.:32:49.

are really coming to the fore in the opening kilometres. Yes, I would

:32:49.:32:51.

imagine that some of those continental teams would be happy to

:32:51.:32:58.

just sit back and let things unfold because the style of racing for

:32:58.:33:00.

British and Continental is quite different so it will be interesting

:33:00.:33:08.

to see this unfolding and at the moment, it is going to course.

:33:08.:33:14.

teams trying to track from the front and shake things up and there will

:33:14.:33:19.

be lots of riders back in the peloton, happy to sit back and

:33:19.:33:24.

follow the wheels. Nice and flat at the moment so no great problems. The

:33:24.:33:31.

Tower of London, one of the most photographed spots in London.

:33:31.:33:37.

runners head over that bridge during the London Marathon. They are on

:33:37.:33:42.

that route at this point in time. As you can see from the top left, there

:33:42.:33:48.

is a very long way to go until they reach the mall. Even though, as the

:33:48.:33:54.

crow flies, it is not too far away at the moment. This is a very quick

:33:54.:34:01.

section of road. There are some potholes and drain covers that they

:34:01.:34:06.

will have to negotiate. They have to keep their wits about them. Lots of

:34:06.:34:10.

information coming between the riders, especially if they know they

:34:10.:34:15.

have got their team-mates with them, pointing out the holes and the

:34:15.:34:19.

difficulties because at this speed, when running with 25 millimetre

:34:19.:34:28.

tyres below you, that is all you need! At any stage, having to change

:34:28.:34:37.

your wheel or a puncture, you can do without that. At this point, you are

:34:37.:34:41.

just trying to get yourself into the race. It is quick at the moment but

:34:41.:34:46.

all of those teen car is behind them at the moment, ready and waiting

:34:46.:34:52.

with mechanics. They cannot go to sleep just yet. London is really

:34:52.:34:58.

laying on all of the sites at the moment. As they head west. Just a

:34:58.:35:01.

couple of streets away from St Paul's Cathedral and Blackfriars

:35:01.:35:10.

Bridge. Massive crowd in the centre of London. It will go just behind,

:35:10.:35:17.

here Powell mall. A number of people have just wandered up to watch this.

:35:17.:35:22.

As they head up Saint James Street and Piccadilly, towards Hyde Park

:35:22.:35:26.

and they have more than enough time to wander back through Green Park.

:35:26.:35:31.

There is live music and all sorts going on today. There is a real

:35:31.:35:36.

festival atmosphere and this is what this is. This is really the icing on

:35:36.:35:45.

the cake of RideLondon. This professional road race. We have one

:35:46.:35:51.

rider going clear. He looks over his shoulder. He is thinking, please, do

:35:51.:35:58.

not let me go alone. Please, somebody, Compaq is. And there are

:35:58.:36:03.

four riders coming to do just that. After the next few attacks,

:36:03.:36:13.
:36:13.:36:13.

depending on the combination of riders, as the team starts to push

:36:13.:36:22.

on. That is the classic sprint stage. Whereby they let them do

:36:22.:36:28.

their thing and then sprinters get-together over the back half of

:36:28.:36:33.

the race and they start to reel them in and is plenty of time after those

:36:33.:36:42.

harder sections to do just that. Charring Cross. They will turn

:36:42.:36:50.

right, Northumberland Avenue. across Trafalgar Square. Just that

:36:50.:37:00.
:37:00.:37:22.

little shot of the finish at fantastic weather today. It is dry,

:37:22.:37:27.

it is not too hot at the moment but a couple of days ago, it was

:37:27.:37:33.

sweltering. So, this will be welcome respite for many of those riders who

:37:33.:37:40.

have been racing in Europe, even in the UK! It has been so hot. One of

:37:40.:37:44.

the outpost riders coming to the front. Just getting the first hint

:37:45.:37:49.

that maybe there is a little breakaway group forming in the next

:37:49.:37:53.

few minutes. Some persistent dizziness at the front of the

:37:53.:38:03.
:38:03.:38:12.

peloton. -- busyness. This just shows the speed of the men at the

:38:12.:38:22.
:38:22.:38:26.

front. That looks like an hundred and Christian Delle Stelle. -- Dan

:38:26.:38:36.

Craven. We are expecting them to reach that finish line at any time

:38:36.:38:42.

between 5:45pm and 6:15pm, depending on the average speed, something like

:38:42.:38:48.

that. It is a very long day in the saddle. And depending on the

:38:48.:38:54.

weather, that will help. It is nice and dry. There is a fair amount of

:38:54.:39:03.

wind out there and that is quite cooling. The first of the big teams,

:39:03.:39:12.

starting to put their move in. Belkin Pro Cycling Team. This just

:39:12.:39:19.

tightens up. Some riders starting to live through the road cones, through

:39:19.:39:24.

the bollards. And that is one of the problems with inner bike racing. The

:39:24.:39:30.

furniture, as we call it, that is a problem. Piccadilly. And that is

:39:30.:39:38.

Green Park, live music will be there later on. They are heading towards

:39:38.:39:48.
:39:48.:39:56.

Hyde Park corner and then Cromwell Road. A quick wheel change. James

:39:56.:40:06.
:40:06.:40:06.

McCullum. He could do without this. The riders are going clear. That was

:40:06.:40:16.
:40:16.:40:19.

a very good wheel change, quick, and he will be straight back in. Belkin

:40:19.:40:26.

Pro Cycling Team. The team is being led by the Australian rider, Jack

:40:27.:40:36.

Bobridge. Silver medallist from the London Olympic Games. He is such a

:40:36.:40:44.

talent, Jack Bobridge. And Belkin Pro Cycling Team have been starting

:40:44.:40:50.

this one man down. And that will help their chances, they will be

:40:50.:40:55.

looking to try to stir things up, as they are doing here. Still waiting

:40:55.:41:00.

for an early pattern to emerge. The constant ebb and flow. Riders trying

:41:00.:41:10.
:41:10.:41:12.

to form breakaway groups. Nobody successful. Brompton Road. Heading

:41:12.:41:21.

through Knightsbridge. And another Olympic venue, Hyde Park. Hosting

:41:21.:41:24.

the triathlon and the open water swimming. And Wembley Stadium in the

:41:24.:41:34.
:41:34.:41:52.

the World Championships, which will be broadcast on the BBC. Team GB

:41:52.:41:56.

drivers on the front. This is interesting. Very promising young

:41:56.:42:06.
:42:06.:42:09.

riders. Simon Yates. Adam Yates. Daniel McClay. Great opportunity.

:42:09.:42:17.

Fantastic opportunity and they are very good group of riders.

:42:17.:42:27.
:42:27.:42:37.

Especially with Yates. Fantastic coaching. Bike Chris Newton. -- by.

:42:37.:42:42.

Well, plenty of celebrities taking part. James Cracknell in the centre

:42:42.:42:50.

of the picture. The fastest of the celebrities. And he had a little

:42:50.:43:00.

chat after finishing his 100 mile 's. James, the first celebrity home.

:43:00.:43:08.

Fantastic performance, did you enjoy that? Really good. Having cycled

:43:08.:43:17.

around London and the area, normally in a car, it is great to go down the

:43:17.:43:22.

Embankment so fast. And there are a lot of very fit people here but not

:43:22.:43:26.

members of cycling clubs, so I could latch onto the back of one of those

:43:26.:43:31.

groups and not do any work so I just slipstreamed my way around so thank

:43:31.:43:36.

you to everybody! When you look back at some of you look back at some of

:43:36.:43:45.

your endeavours, this is just a nice Sunday morning? Yes, can I watch the

:43:45.:43:50.

cricket? ! The best thing was coming into this park, having been here

:43:50.:43:57.

last year, and so many table flooding in, but to do something. It

:43:57.:44:01.

is better to do something rather than just applaud and that was

:44:01.:44:07.

really good. Wonderful response from the crowd? They were all clapping,

:44:07.:44:11.

they probably came to see the professionals later on! You could

:44:11.:44:18.

just about join them! I think he enjoyed himself! James Cracknell,

:44:18.:44:24.

after riding today. He looked in pretty good shape, considering he

:44:24.:44:29.

had covered 100 mile 's? Yes, but like she said, be sporting events

:44:29.:44:36.

that he has done over the years, absolutely amazing talent. And he

:44:36.:44:43.

does love bike riding. He was smiling past the finish. He was

:44:43.:44:47.

loving it and that is the thing with bicycle riding, the amount of guys

:44:48.:44:52.

and girls coming through the finish and they absolutely put themselves

:44:52.:44:58.

on the line, they have emptied themselves but beaming smiles. Team

:44:58.:45:06.

Raleigh. Tom Scully. He has had a very good year, from New Zealand.

:45:06.:45:16.
:45:16.:45:20.

Just stringing out the peloton. We saw Brian Cookson earlier on.

:45:20.:45:27.

president of British cycling. He is a candidate for the UCI presidency.

:45:27.:45:32.

That would certainly change things in the world of cycling. Great to

:45:32.:45:39.

see him out there and finishing in good shape. The race now heads out

:45:39.:45:49.
:45:49.:45:53.

of central London, West, Hammersmith. 206 kilometres to go.

:45:53.:45:59.

The peloton is not letting anyone go clear, it is not letting groups go.

:45:59.:46:05.

One man on his own is not going to do any damage. Here's hoping that

:46:05.:46:15.
:46:15.:46:15.

someone will come up to him any time soon. This riders from La Pomme

:46:15.:46:25.

Marseille. They are one of the Continental teams taking part today.

:46:25.:46:33.

This team has been around for years, in various guises. This rider

:46:33.:46:43.
:46:43.:46:43.

has had some good results. He was third in Paris Camembert. That

:46:43.:46:48.

sounds like my sort of race! I do not think you would win your body in

:46:48.:46:58.
:46:58.:47:07.

cheese. I walked into that one. FDJ have a rider on the front. Belkin

:47:07.:47:16.

are chasing hard. It is just like Beecher do France. The French do

:47:16.:47:26.
:47:26.:47:32.

like to chase the French. -- like me to do France. -- like the Tour de

:47:32.:47:42.
:47:42.:47:46.

France. The riders are starting to put on the pressure. The rider on

:47:46.:47:52.

the back is James McCallum. unfortunately punctured. Yes, he had

:47:52.:47:57.

a puncture in Piccadilly and he has been chasing ever since. They're

:47:57.:48:07.
:48:07.:48:09.

here, number 66. This is Belkin. He has a bit of a problem with his race

:48:09.:48:16.

number. It has come loose and it is flapping around. The mechanic has

:48:16.:48:19.

the unenviable task of hanging out of the car and trying not to lose

:48:19.:48:29.
:48:29.:48:46.

his fingers. The cyclists are preparing to head south of the

:48:46.:48:56.

river. IG-Sigma Sport are up there, Orica as well. There is a little bit

:48:56.:49:05.

of talking going on among those at the front. The peloton is keen to

:49:05.:49:13.

try and stay together as much as possible. This will probably be the

:49:13.:49:21.

pattern, until we head into the open roads out of the city. There is Matt

:49:21.:49:28.

Goss, number 41. He is trying to loosen his legs up. He will be keen

:49:28.:49:37.

to not show his face until the race gets going. He is a sprinter. He was

:49:37.:49:44.

underwhelming in the Giro d'Italia. He got himself set up in the first

:49:44.:49:51.

stage. Yes, but they only managed four. He was put in a great position

:49:51.:49:56.

by his lead out train but he did not have the legs. But he is a former

:49:56.:50:06.
:50:06.:50:10.

winner of Milan San Remo. That is the one thing you would say coming

:50:10.:50:16.

into this race, it is a great shame that that is no Chris Froome,

:50:16.:50:18.

Bradley Wiggins or Mark Cavendish, three major figures in world

:50:18.:50:26.

cycling. They are all engaged elsewhere. That is right. Who knows

:50:26.:50:31.

what Chris Froome is getting up to at the moment? He has been doing

:50:31.:50:41.

lots of criterium is after the Tour de France. Bradley Wiggins won the

:50:41.:50:46.

final stage yesterday of the two have Poland. It was a good ride by

:50:46.:50:56.
:50:56.:51:11.

him. It was a fantastic ride. is Peter Williams of IG-Sigma Sport.

:51:11.:51:17.

If you do not get in a move quickly, you have lost your opportunity. It

:51:17.:51:21.

seems that it is not getting away, so that is the opportunity for

:51:21.:51:27.

others to join. In situations like this, riders come across in ones and

:51:27.:51:32.

twos. Before you not, there are great guys up the road and the group

:51:32.:51:42.
:51:42.:51:42.

just swells. That is where the problems start. There is Jack

:51:42.:51:48.

Bobridge on the left-hand side of the picture, with his team-mates.

:51:48.:51:54.

This is further back down the peloton. They are going quickly.

:51:54.:51:58.

They're all tucked into the right-hand side of the road. There

:51:58.:52:07.

is Matt Goss, just following the wheel of Brett Lancaster. Here's

:52:07.:52:13.

another experienced rider from Orica Greenedge. Orica is effectively

:52:13.:52:21.

Australia's equivalent of the Sky professional cycling team. Yes, they

:52:21.:52:24.

are based at the is truly an Institute of sport. Unfortunately

:52:25.:52:31.

for them, they have not managed to achieve the same standard as Dave

:52:31.:52:41.
:52:41.:52:42.

Brailsford. Orica Greenedge did not start very well. Their team bus got

great shot of him sitting in the bus with his head in his hands, with the

bus wedged underneath refinishing gantry. The riders were five minutes

None more so than when that a graphic card. -- that big crash

we cannot see some of those British riders now. They are not letting a

:55:07.:55:12.

race today. There is plenty of cloud around, but it is every chance that

:55:12.:55:19.

we will have a dry race. That is good news, particularly for those

:55:19.:55:24.

treacherous roads in Surrey. They are very picturesque, but they can

:55:24.:55:27.

be treacherous when wet, particularly because the undercover

:55:27.:55:34.

of trees for most part of the year. A nice group has formed, but whether

:55:34.:55:39.

it is the wrong combination, I do not know. There are only a couple of

:55:39.:55:48.

riders left on the front are willing to take a turn and push it on. If

:55:48.:55:52.

this breakaway continues to work, or not work, as it were, it will get

:57:31.:57:37.

This is a very popular spot for people to go cycling. It is a real

:57:37.:57:41.

mecca for cyclists. We were saying how many bikes there were right here

:57:41.:57:46.

today. Normally on the weekend round here, there are groups and groups of

:57:46.:57:52.

by graders. It is a night there for car drivers because the speed limit

:57:52.:57:57.

is about 20 mph. That is around the sweet spot for a group of guys going

round here. All sorts of bother. You would be able to sit on the back

Perhaps they are trying to put someone up the road, trying to get a

That did not do him any harm! That is for sure. Pretty windy and quite

:05:50.:05:54.

very convincing sprint win for second place! But unfortunately the

:05:54.:06:03.

rider had gone clear. He thought that was it. To be fair to him, that

:06:03.:06:07.

day his radio was broken so he did not know that there was another

:06:07.:06:17.
:06:17.:06:17.

rider clear. Earlier on, we saw James Cracknell, the fastest of the

:06:17.:06:23.

celebrity finishers, and map Dawson, in that yellow helmet, World Cup

:06:23.:06:32.

winner and British Lions. Delighted to complete the race. And he had the

:06:32.:06:38.

energy to speak to us afterwards. Here is your medal,

:06:38.:06:47.

congratulations! World Cup winner and you have completed that fabulous

:06:47.:06:52.

100 mile is, does it feel good? Brilliant. It was absolutely

:06:52.:07:01.

fabulous. The file -- the fans were off -- the fans were also. I have to

:07:01.:07:10.

catch my breath! One year ago, you were in the velodrome with us and I

:07:10.:07:15.

do not think we can put into words the emotion that came over you when

:07:15.:07:20.

involved in something like this? All of those fans and riders, everyone

:07:20.:07:24.

looking after everyone, there was a family out there, so the fans were

:07:24.:07:34.
:07:34.:07:35.

brilliant, and this bicycle is a legend! This bad boy! But you have

:07:35.:07:41.

to keep turning those pedals! Yes, I was doing it to support bowel cancer

:07:41.:07:46.

for my mother. And it was really inspirational. She is my total rock.

:07:46.:07:56.
:07:56.:07:58.

You have to take in. Leith Hill was brutal! But we had a very good team

:07:58.:08:08.
:08:08.:08:09.

and a great charity and it was a fabulous day. Well done! Great to

:08:09.:08:18.

see what it means to complete that. Fantastic. Has he put on timber? !

:08:18.:08:28.
:08:28.:08:33.

No wonder he was happy to get over! I am saying nothing! He has ridden

:08:33.:08:40.

100 mile study! I will take my hat off to him and anyone else today.

:08:40.:08:48.

And he has raised money for charity? That is the entire point of this,

:08:48.:08:58.
:08:58.:09:01.

this is all about setting up what is going on in front of us. On the

:09:01.:09:11.
:09:11.:09:11.

front, is this Matt Brammeier? current Irish champion. Two years on

:09:11.:09:21.

:09:27.:09:34.

riders coming up. He had a very big injury, he broke his leg, I think

:09:34.:09:39.

that was about five years ago. And he ready struggled and he took time

:09:40.:09:48.

to come back to become a team member. It looked like he was going

:09:48.:09:53.

clear and he was certainly hoping that one or two riders could come up

:09:53.:10:03.
:10:03.:10:03.

to him, but unfortunately, it was this sprint. Hampton Court.Everyone

:10:03.:10:13.

else was trying to lead this out. Riders hurtling through, heading

:10:13.:10:19.

towards sorry. They will spend the lions share of the afternoon in the

:10:19.:10:24.

countryside before heading back to central London. And is a very way to

:10:24.:10:34.
:10:34.:10:34.

go. And still no sign of the breakaway. The peloton, altogether,

:10:34.:10:38.

as they had passed Hampton Court. That was a focal point during the

:10:38.:10:44.

Olympic Games, but wonderful Wednesday afternoon with the time

:10:44.:10:49.

trial and Bradley Wiggins. Not a very bad day for team GB and

:10:49.:10:59.
:10:59.:11:00.

Germany. Tony Martin. What a day! I was absolutely blown away by the art

:11:00.:11:06.

:11:06.:11:11.

it. All of those iconic shots of Sir Bradley Wiggins sitting on that

:11:23.:11:29.

liner and looking less than amused. There you go. One of the more

:11:29.:11:34.

memorable days. The sun came out and it was glorious, and unfortunately

:11:34.:11:39.

it stayed all the way until the end of the BMX, otherwise we would have

:11:39.:11:49.
:11:49.:12:03.

been drowned on those couple of days Court. And that little courtyard in

:12:03.:12:08.

front of the palace is where they had that medal ceremony. And Sir

:12:08.:12:14.

Bradley Wiggins was rather keen to leave behind and get out and enjoy

:12:14.:12:19.

himself with his fans, and he caused also to mayhem by riding through the

:12:19.:12:29.
:12:29.:12:38.

gates and up the road. Causing mayhem? Never! Orica Greenedge.

:12:38.:12:48.

particularly good in the Tour this year? Dominant performance this

:13:07.:13:17.
:13:17.:13:23.

:13:23.:13:29.

Mansell, he is the figurehead for that team. He has helped to set that

:13:29.:13:38.

up. And the results... Jonathan Mould in first place, then Adam

:13:38.:13:48.
:13:48.:13:48.

Yates. British riders keen to get themselves onto the leaderboard.

:13:48.:13:58.
:13:58.:13:59.

Early on. This will be a very tough day for them. It really does suit

:13:59.:14:04.

the continental riders but that will not stop any of the domestic guys

:14:04.:14:14.
:14:14.:14:24.

trying to get up there. Interesting squad, this team. Joker Merida. They

:14:24.:14:34.
:14:34.:14:39.

have been very strong over the years. We have heard from James

:14:40.:14:44.

Cracknell and Matt Dawson, but Sally Gunnell, another rider from this

:14:44.:14:50.

morning, here she is. Earlier on. And looking quite fresh,

:14:50.:14:58.

considering. The former Olympic 400 metres hurdles champion. And she

:14:58.:15:03.

caught up with us after finishing her ride. Sally Gunnell, fantastic

:15:04.:15:11.

to see you crossing the line, our first female celebrity. Further than

:15:11.:15:16.

the distances you specialise in as an athlete. Was that hard? I had not

:15:17.:15:21.

gone anywhere near 100 miles and I thought, there will be tonnes of

:15:21.:15:26.

people, and I loved this, it was so well organised and everybody was

:15:26.:15:31.

fantastic, supporting me. I thought it would take the eight hours and I

:15:31.:15:37.

only took 5.5 hours! Really chuffed! It is just less taxing on the body,

:15:37.:15:42.

I think. But yes, I believe enjoyed that. We could see you and Matt

:15:42.:15:50.

Dawson, but you burned him off! You don't see anybody so I do not know

:15:50.:15:54.

what happened or where he is. We did the London Marathon this year and

:15:54.:16:00.

now this. I got the better of him! How does this compare to running the

:16:00.:16:07.

marathon? Not as painful, I can say that. I chose are still OK. But you

:16:07.:16:12.

still work hard. And I think you just get less aches and pains in

:16:12.:16:17.

your back and things. But I just love doing these massive events,

:16:17.:16:22.

ethical when you race, as another league. Lovely to be in there.

:16:22.:16:25.

Wonderful to see so many people taking part and raising money for

:16:25.:16:30.

charity. Yes, that is what this is about. Everywhere you go, everybody

:16:30.:16:40.
:16:40.:16:48.

cheering, great causes. That is it. Thank you. The competitive juices of

:16:48.:16:55.

you athletes always take over. Tunnel vision. Quite possibly. It

:16:55.:17:01.

does show, the amount of riders out there, it really spurs you on. It

:17:02.:17:05.

would certainly be easier to go around with 20,000 other riders than

:17:05.:17:13.

on your own. If she had set out on her own, she would have struggled

:17:13.:17:18.

more. But it is great to see people like her doing that, and enjoying

:17:18.:17:25.

it, and spreading the word. As if it needs to be spread any more. It is

:17:25.:17:29.

incredible, the amount of riders. The amount of kids on bikes,

:17:29.:17:39.
:17:39.:17:39.

families on bikes, brand-new bikes. How the trade is coping, I do not

:17:39.:17:49.

know. It was fantastic yesterday. The centre of London, so much of it

:17:49.:17:54.

closed, and 50,000 people of all ages, on all sorts of bikes,

:17:54.:17:59.

enjoying the sights and riding round the streets. Then we had the race

:17:59.:18:02.

around St James's Park in the evening, concluding with that

:18:02.:18:07.

wonderful victory for Laura Trott. I think that was the result that many

:18:07.:18:11.

of the spectators had come to see. She was the favourite, but you still

:18:11.:18:20.

have to go out there and deliver. Yes, and team work paid for her. It

:18:20.:18:26.

was a great job by Dani King. A fantastic job, into the headwind.

:18:26.:18:36.
:18:36.:18:37.

Node 4-Giordana on the attack. Mark Christian put a big effort in for

Team Raleigh. He is a former Academy rider. He is a great rider with

:18:44.:18:54.
:18:54.:18:55.

great potential. IG-Sigma Sport chasing. There is nothing going

:18:56.:19:02.

clear, I cannot believe it. I am amazed that nobody has been allowed

:19:02.:19:06.

to form a breakaway group. They have been writing for a while now, just

:19:06.:19:15.

over an hour. Yes, and we are just going by the union flag there. It

:19:15.:19:19.

was nice and still, so maybe there is not as much wind as many of the

:20:47.:20:53.

there are only six riders on each team. How does that affect things?

:20:53.:20:58.

It is normally nine riders in races like the Tour de France. In football

:20:58.:21:05.

terms, it is like being a player down. It really must affect the

:21:05.:21:15.
:21:15.:21:18.

team. With the sprinter, for instance, he will have five

:21:18.:21:21.

team-mates here. Normally he is used to having seven, and in the grand

:21:21.:21:28.

Tours, it team-mates. When used consider that a rider in the

:21:28.:21:33.

slipstream can save anything between 30 and 50%, depending on wind

:21:33.:21:38.

direction, and sometimes more than that, that is why the riders rely so

:21:39.:21:46.

much on their team-mates. If riders do not have that amount of

:21:46.:21:49.

team-mates, and team help, you're relying on other teams to come in

is the former national points race champion in New Zealand. Once

again, it has been shut down very quickly. Team UK Youth now on the

front. They are putting it in the left-hand gutter. They are trying to

:23:11.:23:21.
:23:21.:23:23.

open things up behind, that nothing is happening at the moment. All the

:23:23.:23:31.

riders are keen to try and keep it together. Thomas Rostollan was

:23:31.:23:39.

looking a little frustrated there, not able to get away. It is like an

:23:39.:23:43.

elastic band, the front of a bicycle race, with riders constantly pushing

:23:43.:23:48.

against it, and eventually its maps. That is what normally happens

:23:48.:23:55.

anyway. Here is one of the riders from Topsport Vlaanderen. We're into

:23:55.:24:02.

the second out of racing now. Quite often we would see it happen now. A

:24:02.:24:08.

handful of riders are starting to go clear. Rapha Condor, and

:24:21.:24:28.

forming. Anxiously explained, and I wondered if this might a little

group that will gain some time. It seems like the peloton desist in.

:24:36.:24:42.

The elastic has finally snapped, and riders are happy to let things go.

:24:42.:24:50.

There will be a lot of people chasing and chasing. For riders like

:24:50.:24:54.

this, it is often more luck than judgement and you get yourself into

:24:54.:25:00.

the move. You can put yourself in a position where you have gone with 56

:25:00.:25:05.

moves and everyone gets brought act. The one that you leave, thinking it

:25:05.:25:14.

will be brought back, everyone sits up and it gets away. It was nice of

:25:14.:25:18.

them to form a breakaway group before we disappear away from BBC

:25:18.:25:23.

One for the time being. We will try to get the composition of that group

at the first opportunity. Jonathan McEvoy at the front, pushing on

:25:41.:25:51.
:25:51.:25:52.

hard. It is hard to see how you -- it is hard to see who these riders

:25:52.:25:59.

on in the breakaway group. I cannot see at the moment. Some of these

:25:59.:26:06.

teams have really dipped into the roster for this race. Most of the

:26:06.:26:10.

riders who read the grand Tours are not here at the RideLondon event.

:26:10.:26:16.

wonder if it is Liam Holahan from madison Genesis. If it is, I do not

:26:16.:26:22.

think he's going to make it. This group is pressing on hard. All his

:26:22.:26:32.
:26:32.:26:38.

effort was to try and close the gap. Connor McConvey on the back. You can

:26:38.:26:48.

Melodie. The riders in the peloton will be happy for it to campaign. I

:27:51.:27:57.

imagine that this group will be allowed to go clear. Anything,

:27:57.:28:02.

three, three, four, five minutes even. Then the sprinters teams will

start to come together, and work can gradually bring it back.

kilometres to go. There is a long way to go in this race, but at last

:28:25.:28:28.

we have a breakaway group. Orica Greenedge on the back, with Brett

:28:34.:28:38.

happy to let this breakaway group go. For the foreseeable future, we

have our leaders in the London-Surrey 100 London-Surrey
