credential RideLondon. It is a glorious day. -- Prudential. The

:01:46.:01:52.

Mall is looking resplendent. Welcome back to our coverage of what is the

:01:52.:01:57.

UK's largest ever cycling Festival. This weekend, two wheels have ruled

:01:58.:02:02.

the streets of London. He has a flavour of what has been going on.

:02:02.:02:07.

It all kicked off yesterday morning with the FreeCycle. 50,000 riders of

:02:07.:02:12.

all ages and abilities on an eight mile traffic free rate in the heart

:02:12.:02:21.

of London. In the evening, the focus switched to a dramatic race that

:02:21.:02:23.

featured the gold-medal queens of Laura Trott, Dani King and Joanna

:02:23.:02:28.

Rowsell. This morning it was the turn of 20,000 amateur riders to

:02:28.:02:36.

take on the London-Surrey 100. As we speak, the professional cyclists are

:02:36.:02:41.

right on the same roads in the London-Surrey Classic. Peter Sagan

:02:41.:02:47.

and David Millar among the star names to the code for. There were a

:02:47.:02:53.

few star names in the Forces Together. -- in the London-Surrey

:02:54.:03:01.

100. Boris Johnson flew through innate and four minutes. Well done.

:03:01.:03:08.

Afterwards, he spoke to Jill Douglas. Congratulations. We saw

:03:08.:03:13.

lots of medals presented last year. How does it feel to get this one?

:03:13.:03:19.

Unbelievable. It was extraordinary. I was overtaken solidly for about

:03:19.:03:23.

four hours, and then in the last bit, once we had done the hill, I

:03:23.:03:28.

was starting to overhaul some people. A few 60-year-old man, and a

:03:28.:03:34.

few children. It is-year-old women were soaring past me. It was a

:03:34.:03:39.

wonderful experience. Maybe not the chiselled whippet that we spoke

:03:39.:03:46.

about. The sculptor has yet to find the whippet within. The crowds have

:03:46.:03:51.

been incredible. All the riders have spoken about the amazing atmosphere.

:03:51.:03:57.

How hard is it out there? The truth is, it is not that hard, and that is

:03:57.:04:04.

why I'm here to prove that. I am 17 stone, I am by no means fit, and I

:04:04.:04:10.

got myself around that course. It was a perfectly respectable time.

:04:10.:04:15.

Not supersonic, but respectable. The message we are trying to get over is

:04:15.:04:20.

this is for everybody. We hope that this will be the first of many

:04:20.:04:27.

cycling celebrations in London. you punch at one point? Yes, I want

:04:27.:04:36.

to thank Mark. He was brilliant. It was a stunning thing. Who would have

:04:36.:04:43.

thought that study -- that Surrey could be so beautiful? It was a

:04:43.:04:50.

knockout. Boris needs to get out of London a bit more. Rob Hayles

:04:50.:04:54.

alongside me. A former world champion track cyclist and Olympic

:04:54.:05:00.

medallist. Boris has become an ambassador in chief cycling. He is

:05:00.:05:04.

not your classic figurehead for elite sport, but in terms of

:05:04.:05:09.

participation, and that is what this is about, he has spearheaded that.

:05:10.:05:14.

He was at the velodrome last year, he is here today, he has ridden

:05:14.:05:21.

round, incredible. Your first Olympic Games was back in 1996,

:05:21.:05:24.

before lottery funding. Cycling was in a very different edition?

:05:24.:05:31.

Completely different. The public perception, we mentioned earlier,

:05:31.:05:36.

the people who are household names. There are so many of them. It is

:05:36.:05:41.

night and day between those days and what we have now. It is amazing to

:05:41.:05:45.

have seen the growth, not just at the elite side, that is where it

:05:45.:05:51.

starts, but here, the participation of people riding bikes for fun, and

:05:51.:05:58.

not just for transport. It is like an inverted pediment. It has flooded

:05:58.:06:03.

down to grassroots. It has. You can understand why, with the coverage in

:06:03.:06:11.

the media. There is no fee to give me from my first two Commonwealth

:06:11.:06:21.
:06:21.:06:25.

Games. No media. But that has changed. The focus this weekend is

:06:25.:06:30.

the London-Surrey Classic. This is the course that the professional

:06:30.:06:33.

riders arrived on at the moment. They started at the Queen Elizabeth

:06:33.:06:43.
:06:43.:07:11.

opposite direction to the Olympic road race. Let's catch up with the

:07:11.:07:20.

story of the race. This is a legacy event from the London Olympic and

:07:20.:07:22.

event from the London Olympic and Paralympic in is. It was uneventful

:07:23.:07:28.

in the early stages. The riders were enjoying the scenes of central

:07:28.:07:33.

London, riding at a fairly relaxed pace. There were a few attempted

:07:33.:07:41.

breakaways, but none of them could stake. The best attempt came in

:07:41.:07:47.

Richmond Park. This rider was hauled back. The first sprint was at

:07:47.:07:53.

Hampton Court. It was won by an athlete from Team UK Youth, that is

:07:53.:08:00.

Nigel Mansell's team. Jonathan Mould took the points. Eventually a group

:08:00.:08:04.

of eight riders did get away, including Jonathan McEvoy and

:08:04.:08:10.

Michael Cuming. They had a lead of about five minutes, which was pegged

:08:10.:08:14.

back to about three and a half minutes. The peloton seemed to have

:08:15.:08:20.

it under control. Peter Sagan Colling for a drink. His Cannondale

:08:20.:08:24.

team was fairly quiet, and that bodes well for his finish at the end

:08:24.:08:32.

of this race. He looks fairly comfortable at the moment.

:08:32.:08:36.

interesting thing was, he actually went back for drinks himself. The

:08:36.:08:45.

riders do not have radios. If you went for information that is one

:08:45.:08:53.

thing, but he actually went to get bottles for his team-mates. I know

:08:53.:08:57.

that they were riding fairly sedately at the time. That it is

:08:57.:09:03.

interesting to see. Do you think you might have a problem? No, but he has

:09:03.:09:08.

come into this race extremely relaxed. This is his first

:09:08.:09:12.

competition since the Tour de France. Perhaps mentally he is not

:09:12.:09:21.

ready for it. In terms of the breakaway, nobody of any real zero?

:09:21.:09:29.

No, this is turning out to be a classic sprint finish territory. For

:09:29.:09:33.

the first hour, the bunch was letting nothing go away. From the

:09:33.:09:43.

outside, it was fairly mundane. But in that, it was extremely hectic.

:09:43.:09:53.
:09:53.:09:53.

After the sprint from Jonathan Mould, the breakaway went. The role

:09:53.:09:58.

of Team Sky will be to bring this back. We thought the David Millar

:09:58.:10:03.

might try and get away, but he is not in the breakaway either. So many

:10:03.:10:09.

people tried, ultimately it is in the lap of the gods whether you make

:10:09.:10:13.

the breakaway are not. Kristian House for instance, he certainly

:10:13.:10:18.

wanted to be in the breakaway. I expected him to be there, but at

:10:18.:10:23.

that time, he did not go for that move, it was his team-mate. That is

:10:23.:10:28.

how the cookie crumbles. I will let you get to the commentary box. Simon

:10:28.:10:35.

is in the on his own at the moment. It is all yours, Simon.

:10:35.:10:40.

Welcome back. Eight riders have been out in front. That number is now

:10:40.:10:48.

dented seven. There are 67 kilometres to go. Three minutes to

:10:48.:10:52.

the peloton. The peloton have reacted in the last 15 minutes. Had

:10:52.:10:56.

they not done so, the gap would have been too big for them to do anything

:10:56.:11:01.

about it. The next claim on the horizon will be Box Hill in the not

:11:01.:11:06.

too distant future. If it was around four and a half minutes, as it might

:11:06.:11:09.

have been at the top of Box Hill, that would have been hard to get

:11:09.:11:17.

back. The riders at the front are as follows. Connor McConvey has been

:11:17.:11:22.

dropped. They have just gone over Leith Hill for the third and final

:11:22.:11:25.

time. They are descending through the trees, which is wide you cannot

:11:25.:11:35.

see anything at the moment. We have Ramon Sinkeldam of Team

:11:35.:11:38.

Argos-Shimano. He had a puncture a few minutes ago. He has managed to

:11:38.:11:48.
:11:48.:11:50.

get back on. Dominique Rollin, here at the back in the blue, FDJ. Zico

:11:50.:11:55.

Waeytens of Topsport Vlaanderen. Here's a young rider, 20 years of

:11:56.:12:05.

age. Michael Cuming, the winner of the two of Korea earlier this year.

:12:05.:12:15.
:12:15.:12:18.

Clinton Avery, of champion systems. Johnny McEvoy, of NetApp-Endura. And

:12:18.:12:22.

Reidar Borgersen, from Norway. He is the rider that completes this

:12:22.:12:28.

breakaway. As if by magic, Rob Hayles has appeared. I will leave

:12:29.:12:34.

him to get his breath back. There is some action in the peloton. The gap

:12:34.:12:40.

is coming down all the time. Belkin in the green and black are working

:12:40.:12:45.

hard. Orica Greenedge have a rider up there as well. At last, this race

:12:45.:12:51.

has the potential of coming to life. When the breakaway had set off,

:12:51.:12:55.

about an hour and ten minutes into the race, after that, the peloton

:12:55.:13:01.

were happy to let them go. They have kept them reasonably within range.

:13:01.:13:09.

They have sat back since then. Only now, with less than 70 kilometres to

:13:09.:13:13.

go, they are starting to turn the screw. They are starting to try and

:13:13.:13:18.

bring the breakaway back. The breakaway did start off with eight

:13:18.:13:23.

riders, and it was the Irish raider, Connor McConvey, who got dropped on

:13:23.:13:32.

the claim of Leith Hill for the second time. -- rider. He had done

:13:32.:13:36.

well to be in the breakaway. He fractured his pelvis earlier this

:13:36.:13:46.
:13:46.:13:54.

year. You're running is coming on, you were here very quickly! I am

:13:54.:14:00.

getting better at it. Very impressed, I was not expecting to

:14:01.:14:10.
:14:11.:14:10.

see you. The sun has come out this afternoon. None of the riders in the

:14:11.:14:17.

breakaway big-name riders. Peter Sagan, the key rider, for those who

:14:17.:14:21.

did not watch coverage earlier today, Peter Sagan, the green jersey

:14:22.:14:27.

winner in this year's Tour de France. Here's the headline act.

:14:27.:14:37.
:14:37.:14:38.

Here, on paper. We just mentioned there, with Jonathan, how he was the

:14:38.:14:41.

rider who selected himself to go back for bottles. You could read

:14:41.:14:48.

several things into that. Is he not operate, was he going back for

:14:48.:14:54.

information as well? Did he want the information first-hand? Or is he

:14:54.:14:57.

feeling that good, he is that confident, that what the hell, I

:14:57.:15:07.
:15:07.:15:09.

will go back. They are absolutely flying. Heading east at the moment.

:15:09.:15:16.

Nice, sweeping descent. But the peloton have reacted in the nick of

:15:16.:15:26.
:15:26.:15:26.

time. It was seen always ride from Team Sky who set himself up fairly

:15:26.:15:35.

early on, Gabriel Rasch, and he had a couple of kilometres on his own

:15:35.:15:39.

and that was not a problem for him. He was not interested in other

:15:39.:15:45.

riders. It was his job to just peg that group and make sure it did not

:15:45.:15:50.

get over five minutes and he actually brought that down. And

:15:50.:15:54.

several of the other teams started to come in and that is not

:15:54.:15:57.

surprising because those who wanted to come down to the Sprint, they

:15:57.:16:02.

needed to bring that back a little bit because there is not that much

:16:02.:16:09.

climbing. The two rain is not that figure for this group. It is a nice

:16:09.:16:18.

working group. -- difficult. I would imagine, looking at the wind

:16:18.:16:23.

direction on the finish line, I think they will be blown, and that

:16:23.:16:30.

will help the small group. Going back into the city, that will

:16:30.:16:37.

certainly help. Particularly with the direction of the wind, it is

:16:37.:16:42.

difficult to judge. There is not a lot of wind but when it does pick

:16:42.:16:51.

up, it really is quite strong. Just over 60 kilometres left. Heading

:16:51.:17:00.

towards the Sprint, I think, which is in the centre of barking.

:17:00.:17:10.
:17:10.:17:12.

barking. So maximum points, there. He had a puncture on the climb, and

:17:12.:17:22.
:17:22.:17:24.

they managed to get back on. The pace has just dropped slightly. They

:17:24.:17:28.

are getting down to business with Team Sky, showing their face at the

:17:29.:17:36.

front. Number two, the Commonwealth Games road champion from 2006. And

:17:36.:17:46.
:17:46.:17:49.

right on his wheel, Ben Swift. And then Sebastian Langeveld. On the

:17:49.:17:59.
:17:59.:18:00.

right-hand side. Coming towards the floor. This has potential for Ben

:18:01.:18:10.
:18:11.:18:14.

Swift and Matt Goss. Yes, on the a 24. Having made that left-hand turn.

:18:14.:18:19.

If the riders looked to their right, they would see that filled towering

:18:19.:18:25.

above them, with those fantastic views across the South East. The

:18:25.:18:35.
:18:35.:18:36.

peloton is closing in. -- Hill. general rule of thumb in cycling is

:18:36.:18:40.

one minute for every ten kilometres, depending on the combination and who

:18:40.:18:47.

is left to work in the peloton. Today, we are down to only six man

:18:47.:18:55.

teams. There are normally nine of them. 2.5 minutes is easily doable

:18:55.:19:01.

for them. And that is why we have seen them cropping the pace just a

:19:01.:19:05.

little bit and they do not want to bring this group back to early

:19:05.:19:09.

because that just opens things up for the rest of the men who have

:19:09.:19:15.

been sitting in the peloton to go for an attack. As long as there is a

:19:15.:19:25.
:19:25.:19:34.

group outside, in front, that will keep things calm. Another rider for

:19:34.:19:44.

that Dutch team, Jack Bauer. If this group was closer to them on the next

:19:44.:19:49.

section of road, he would be a likely candidate for attacking from

:19:49.:19:53.

the front of the peloton, and he certainly would not want to wait for

:19:53.:19:59.

the sprint finish. He is a very quick and strong rider. The world

:19:59.:20:07.

record holder in the four kilometre individual pursuit. He has been a

:20:07.:20:13.

mainstay of the Australian pursuit team for many years. There are seven

:20:13.:20:20.

riders up the road. No chance of that. They will just go left and

:20:20.:20:28.

once they go around this roundabout, they will be onto box Hill. They

:20:28.:20:34.

will ride for a very short period and then take that sharp right-hand

:20:34.:20:40.

turn which marks the start of the climb. Any time of the week, when

:20:40.:20:48.

you travel here, there will always be cyclists on that road. This has

:20:48.:20:58.
:20:58.:21:09.

always been one of those iconic claims in the side. -- climbs.

:21:10.:21:14.

King of the Mountains start. This was the focal point of the Olympic

:21:14.:21:18.

Games. This is where it was all going to happen in the Olympic

:21:18.:21:22.

games. This is where the British team added desperately tried to keep

:21:22.:21:27.

that race together. It is only featuring once in this race but it

:21:27.:21:32.

did feature nine times, they did nine laps of that circuit in the

:21:32.:21:42.
:21:42.:21:54.

Olympic Games. That is right. Hill, it is a very tough circuit

:21:54.:22:00.

around the back. Whenever you go over the top, there is that straight

:22:00.:22:06.

road and it drags uphill for another mile? The focus was all about Box

:22:06.:22:14.

Hill. All about this road. It was anything but for the riders. And

:22:15.:22:21.

today, we can see that we shall not see much action on this today.

:22:21.:22:31.
:22:31.:22:35.

rider at the back, at the moment, is Daniel McClay. Second-year

:22:35.:22:45.
:22:45.:22:49.

professional. From Champion System Pro Cycling Team. And here we have

:22:49.:22:55.

Dominique Rollin. He was in the France this year. On the right-hand

:22:55.:23:04.

side, Zico Waeytens. 21 years old. This is a great experience for that

:23:04.:23:14.
:23:14.:23:18.

youngster and in front of him, Jonathan McEvoy. These are the

:23:18.:23:21.

riders that we can see at the moment. Just getting some advice

:23:21.:23:29.

from the team car. Yes, some information, he will be told that he

:23:30.:23:35.

is just over 2.5 minutes from the peloton. Information on who is

:23:35.:23:39.

likely to be riding at the front. And what is coming up. He will not

:23:39.:23:44.

really know these roads. He might have watched the race last year. But

:23:44.:23:54.
:23:54.:23:56.

just being reminded of what is coming up. Ramon Sinkeldam. He is

:23:56.:24:06.
:24:06.:24:06.

wearing white. He is a very promising rider, he won the under 23

:24:06.:24:11.

version of the head of the North. And here comes David Millar. Great

:24:11.:24:20.

to see, hear. He was in the Olympics last year. And fresh, if that is the

:24:20.:24:27.

right word, from the Tour de France? Yes, seven guys still out, and that

:24:27.:24:37.
:24:37.:24:42.

calms things down. The gap had increased, it was down to 2.17. We

:24:42.:24:52.
:24:52.:24:55.

are on this iconic claim of Box Hill. -- claim. -- claim. He will

:24:55.:24:59.

hope that his team-mate can go clear over the top of this and then on the

:24:59.:25:09.
:25:09.:25:14.

descent, on those smaller roads, out of sight, out of mind, as they say.

:25:14.:25:22.

The peloton is behind. He is out of his saddle. He knows that these are

:25:22.:25:31.

dangerous jerseys coming up the road. Back with the front. Ramon

:25:31.:25:40.

Sinkeldam has been quite prominent. The Belgian hanging on at the back.

:25:40.:25:49.

It is fairly steady, Box Hill? not particularly steep. It looks

:25:49.:25:57.

worse than it is. The cameraman is tilting his lens. But this is nice

:25:58.:26:07.
:26:08.:26:13.

and steady. It is a flat over the top which generally gives problems.

:26:13.:26:20.

56.7, jurors away from the finish in the mole. And nearly 20,000 other

:26:20.:26:24.

riders have already finished. Some celebrities among them. We heard

:26:24.:26:33.

from James Cracknell. And John to road. Crossing the finish line

:26:33.:26:43.
:26:43.:26:52.

earlier. -- John Torode. What kept you going? I made some flapjacks for

:26:52.:26:58.

myself and also the ambience, it was brilliant. Such an amazing day and

:26:58.:27:01.

it was so well organised and everybody is smiling. Some people

:27:01.:27:07.

grimacing but that was awesome. How much training has gone into this?

:27:07.:27:14.

have never done an hundred miles, but it was just great. I will be

:27:14.:27:19.

doing this again, that is for sure. You took a little brake, but six

:27:19.:27:29.
:27:29.:27:30.

hours? About six hours.I took about half an hour on Box Hill. Just under

:27:30.:27:36.

six hours, I am really pleased. Great crowds enjoying the spectacle

:27:36.:27:41.

and lots of emotion coming through the finish line because people are

:27:41.:27:48.

enjoying the activities but also they are supporting great causes. I

:27:48.:27:51.

am riding for great Ormond, and they have no funding and we try to raise

:27:51.:27:58.

as much money as we can. It has been a brilliant day. Fantastic, great

:27:58.:28:04.

seeing you here. Thank you. Another great combination. Celebrity

:28:04.:28:10.

cyclist, raising money for a very good cause. They seem quite taken

:28:10.:28:15.

with the experience. Sally Gunnell, James Cracknell early on and from

:28:15.:28:21.

Boris Johnson, they all have had a very good day. This is what this is

:28:21.:28:28.

about, the Elite race that we see nine is one thing but the big hard

:28:28.:28:38.

is the bigger picture, participation and charities. RideLondon has

:28:38.:28:41.

covered all bases because we have 50,000 people riding around the

:28:41.:28:44.

empty streets of the centre of London, racing for various

:28:44.:28:50.

categories, the Elite women, we will have a recapture that, and then this

:28:50.:28:59.

race. And 20,000 people taking part in the London 100? It is

:28:59.:29:09.
:29:09.:29:10.

all-encompassing. David Millar, he did that just to put pressure on the

:29:10.:29:14.

peloton, just to get rid of those sprinters. He has formed a spent

:29:15.:29:20.

group. They might have gone just a little bit too hard. They were

:29:20.:29:28.

perhaps hoping for a slightly bigger group. We have another group,

:29:28.:29:38.

notably alongside David Millar, we have Ian Bibby, and that was a very

:29:38.:29:46.

good move. Absolutely. Getting into that little group. They have

:29:46.:29:52.

splintered away from the front of the peloton. Keeping a very close

:29:52.:30:01.

eye on things. This is David Millar on the front. They have probably got

:30:01.:30:08.

around ten or 15 seconds on the peloton. They have riders from Team

:30:08.:30:12.

Argos-Shimano and Belkin Pro Cycling Team and you would think that some

:30:12.:30:17.

of those riders would not be keen on doing too much work at the front.

:30:17.:30:27.
:30:27.:30:35.

Over the top of Box Hill. peloton are not keen on this great

:30:35.:30:38.

going away. It looks like there is a white jersey on the front of the

:30:38.:30:43.

peloton, which will be Argos-Shimano. Team Sky as well.

:30:43.:30:48.

They will be desperate for this to come back. If this group goes

:30:48.:30:51.

cleared and then forms with the seven riders out front, that is a

:30:51.:31:01.
:31:01.:31:02.

seven riders out front, that is a real big danger. I get the

:31:02.:31:04.

impression they are doing everything possible to stop that from

:31:04.:31:13.

happening. Yes, it is being left to David Millar now. The riders are

:31:13.:31:19.

heading over the top of Box Hill. They are on a drag, where you think

:31:19.:31:22.

you're over the top of the claim, but you're still going uphill

:31:22.:31:32.
:31:32.:31:33.

slightly. 56 seconds now.It is coming down all the time. It is not

:31:33.:31:38.

surprising, the speed that this group is going. This is the false

:31:38.:31:44.

flat section that we have mentioned. They are just going over the top of

:31:44.:31:50.

it and they are unable to press on a little bit more. And it is Richard

:31:50.:32:00.
:32:00.:32:05.

Handley has made it from Rapha Condor JLT. That is Ian Bibby, we

:32:05.:32:09.

are looking at, from madison Genesis. Yes, a former mountain

:32:09.:32:17.

biker. A message coming through from those at the front. Yes, they are

:32:17.:32:27.
:32:27.:32:39.

getting the information. They will know that their time is tumbling. It

:32:39.:32:44.

looks like it is coming back together. They are coming through

:32:44.:32:53.

Box Hill village. Then they will head down towards Leatherhead, that

:32:54.:33:03.

is the next time that will be visited by these riders. -- town. I

:33:03.:33:09.

think that is Damiano Caruso in the green of Cannondale. David Millar is

:33:09.:33:13.

looking for more assistance. One of the riders from FDG is coming

:33:13.:33:23.
:33:23.:33:38.

through. -- FDJ. It is a very fast descent. Once they get to the

:33:38.:33:48.
:33:48.:33:48.

bottom, there is a brief uphill section before they rejoin the 24.

:33:48.:33:54.

That is David Millar. He is not happy. He does not look overly

:33:54.:34:00.

impressed. He put a lot of work in there, and he probably expected a

:34:00.:34:06.

little bit more damage to have been done. It is a fairly sizeable group

:34:06.:34:12.

that has gone over the top, and it is Jack Bauer now, the Kiwi. He had

:34:12.:34:17.

a very nasty crash which ended his Tour de France. He got nearly all

:34:17.:34:22.

the way around, and then there was a bad crash on a mountain descent. He

:34:22.:34:27.

ended up in a barbed wire fence. He had some stitches in his face.

:34:27.:34:34.

was in a bad way, he had some facial injuries. Obviously his stitches are

:34:34.:34:38.

not pulling too badly, the way he is pulling faces extra mission marked

:34:38.:34:48.
:34:48.:34:48.

this is the kind of rider that here. He will be from -- he will be

:34:48.:34:53.

familiar with UK roads? Yes, he spent a season here before making

:34:54.:34:59.

the move to the big teams on the continent. He has done well as part

:34:59.:35:05.

of their Giro d'Italia line-up, when they won the team time trial stage.

:35:05.:35:08.

He was going to finish the Tour de France until he crashed out. Without

:35:08.:35:18.
:35:18.:35:20.

a doubt. We are now following the chasers. Simon Yates, from the Great

:35:20.:35:27.

Britain Cycling Team. Simon Yates, add 20 years of age, becoming the

:35:27.:35:30.

world champion on the tractor earlier this year, really impressive

:35:30.:35:39.

rate from him in the world points race. He won a stage in the younger

:35:39.:35:43.

version of the Tour de France, for up-and-coming riders. He has

:35:43.:35:48.

pedigree on the track and the road as well. He has so much potential as

:35:48.:35:55.

an all-round bike rider. He is like a Peter Kennaugh type of bike rider.

:35:55.:36:00.

He is fairly confident on the claims, but not the Alpine claims.

:36:00.:36:10.

He has good all-round ability. are inside the last 50 kilometres.

:36:10.:36:15.

There is no indication as to who will emerge victorious, but this

:36:15.:36:19.

breakaway group is having their lead whittled away, consistently, by the

:36:19.:36:28.

peloton. We are heading to the business end of the stage. Here are

:36:28.:36:33.

the chasers, here is Jack Bauer in the blue Garmin Sharp. He is second

:36:34.:36:43.

in line, behind Simon Yates. Jack Bauer looked like he had one of the

:36:43.:36:52.

cat's eyes. It just sent him off his line. Do you think that is the FDJ

:36:52.:37:02.
:37:02.:37:03.

rider? We will try and clarify that for you. It is a strong grip. Jack

:37:03.:37:07.

Bauer is such a strong time trialist. He is a strong rider over

:37:07.:37:17.
:37:17.:37:29.

to rain like this. -- to rain. is the punchy part of the circuit.

:37:29.:37:34.

Jack Bauer is looking very businesslike. Yes, he is recovering

:37:34.:37:43.

well from the Tour de France. Heading back down towards the 24,

:37:43.:37:47.

they will turn left shortly and go downhill before disappearing in that

:37:47.:37:56.

collection of Leatherhead. -- in the direction of Leatherhead. This is

:37:56.:38:01.

our leading group. There are 38 seconds clear of the Jack Bauer

:38:01.:38:10.

chasers. The peloton are further 12 seconds back. They are trying

:38:10.:38:19.

anything to get a bit of extra speed on this descent. Rough roads here,

:38:19.:38:28.

as well, down the back end of this part of the circuit. It is fortunate

:38:28.:38:35.

that the weather is kind in the riders today. There is a long way to

:38:36.:38:41.

go, it is only 35 seconds for the leading group. Yes, I think it is

:38:41.:38:45.

destined to come under the cosh, is pretty much all breakaways do on

:38:45.:38:49.

circuits like this. I would be extremely surprised to see any of

:38:49.:38:55.

these guys staying away. Some of the sprinters in the main peloton have

:38:55.:39:00.

been keeping their powder dry and not showing their faces. I am sure

:39:00.:39:07.

they will be licking their lips. Certainly, there is a good handful

:39:07.:39:14.

of sprinters who would be in the mix for a full on bunch gallop. Most

:39:14.:39:19.

notably, Peter Sagan, but there are others, Matt Goss, Gerald Ciolek,

:39:19.:39:29.
:39:29.:39:31.

Sacha Modolo. We have not seen much of Gerald Ciolek. We have not seen

:39:31.:39:38.

any of these guys, it is normally a good sign. It depends what has

:39:38.:39:42.

happened, is there a splinter group of the back of the peloton going

:39:42.:39:46.

over Box Hill? Under normal conditions, Box Hill would not

:39:46.:39:51.

normally have much of an effect, but the way the two Garmin Sharp riders

:39:51.:39:57.

rode over that, it could have done a lot of damage. There we are, the Box

:39:57.:40:07.

Hill classification for the King of the Mountains. The riders are back

:40:07.:40:17.
:40:17.:40:19.

onto the 24 at the moment. We are now towards Leatherhead. -- back

:40:19.:40:29.
:40:29.:40:36.

onto the A24. We are couple of miles south of the M25 at the moment.

:40:36.:40:39.

We're back with the leading group. They have been ahead for a long time

:40:40.:40:44.

these riders, they have only shared one of the riders. Connor McConvey

:40:44.:40:52.

was left behind on one of the three loops they did in the Surrey Hills.

:40:52.:40:57.

It was based on Leith Hill. The rest of them have stuck together, but the

:40:57.:41:07.
:41:07.:41:11.

game is almost up for them. The way that the peloton was riding behind,

:41:12.:41:15.

I am pretty adamant that they will not let it go too far. But it

:41:15.:41:23.

depends what they have got left in the legs. They may decide to let it

:41:23.:41:33.
:41:33.:41:35.

go a little bit. It is still 45 kilometres. It is probably about

:41:35.:41:40.

15-20 seconds to these riders. to see one of the young British

:41:41.:41:45.

riders there, Simon Yates, mixing it. They have absolutely no fear,

:41:45.:41:50.

these youngsters. They are put through such a good resume on the

:41:50.:42:00.
:42:00.:42:11.

Academy. -- such a good programme. Just looking back, they are saying

:42:11.:42:20.

20 seconds. It is probably about that at the moment. I cannot see

:42:20.:42:23.

that far back down the road. races heading into the centre of

:42:23.:42:33.
:42:33.:42:34.

Leatherhead. Still we have this lead group. Ramon Sinkeldam, Dominique

:42:34.:42:42.

Rollin, Zico Waeytens, Michael Cuming, Clinton Avery, Vegard Breen,

:42:42.:42:52.
:42:52.:42:56.

Reidar Borgersen, and Johnny McEvoy. It has been a lengthy breakaway, but

:42:56.:43:00.

I think it is a breakaway that is not going to be afraid for any of

:43:00.:43:05.

these riders in terms of the outcome of the race. There is a big crowd in

:43:05.:43:15.
:43:15.:43:29.

the centre of London, in the Mall, waiting for these riders. A lot of

:43:29.:43:33.

the people who have written today, they will be able to watch this and

:43:33.:43:35.

pick exactly where the riders are and how they were feeling at that

:43:35.:43:41.

point in the day, probably not so good, some of them. It was a long

:43:41.:43:46.

day for so many riders, but what an achievement. You could see it

:43:46.:43:52.

written across their faces, and the way that people have been crossing

:43:52.:43:54.

the line today, absolutely exhausted, but ecstatic, most of

:43:54.:44:01.

them. Yes, quite emotional, some of them as well. Everyone has their own

:44:01.:44:11.
:44:11.:44:11.

story. There will be an awful lot of stories to tell. If they are

:44:11.:44:15.

anything like bag riders in a race, then the things that they will have

:44:15.:44:18.

encountered and seen today, they will be telling people about it for

:44:18.:44:28.
:44:28.:44:37.

quite some time. That is Johanna Freda Francaise Des Jeux. -- Yoann

:44:37.:44:47.
:44:47.:44:50.

Offredo of. The race is now heading for Cobham. There will be a sprint

:44:50.:44:59.

in the high Street. That will be the 184 colour matters to go mark. This

:44:59.:45:03.

group behind the leading riders. The peloton are less than a minute down.

:45:03.:45:13.
:45:13.:45:13.

It is still tight, it is still close. Simon Yates is at the front,

:45:13.:45:23.
:45:23.:45:24.

the British rider. Just improvising a little bit. And now, with the

:45:24.:45:34.
:45:34.:45:48.

leaders. These three still riding well. Jack Bauer is really dragging

:45:48.:45:56.

them along. And there we go, the first shot we have of them. They are

:45:56.:46:05.

gradually ringing them in. The arrival of this three will get them

:46:05.:46:10.

some time out in front. It certainly will, and that helps in terms of

:46:10.:46:18.

what we have from FDJ Fr, they can afford to have one of them burying

:46:18.:46:24.

themselves for the other. But that also takes the chase away from

:46:24.:46:34.
:46:34.:46:37.

certain teams who had not already made this. Great Britain Cycling

:46:37.:46:46.

Team, having only Simon Yates, that will help. 48 seconds. Still a good

:46:46.:46:56.
:46:56.:46:56.

job. But it is a very big ask for any of this group. 41.2 kilometres,

:46:56.:47:02.

still a long way to go for these riders. And it might just swell this

:47:02.:47:07.

group a little bit more and will entice people to start attacking and

:47:07.:47:13.

as long as they stay and take their turns, bit by bit, it should not be

:47:13.:47:21.

a problem. But if they decide to start barking around the back, that

:47:21.:47:28.

might put the cat amongst the pigeons. That often puts more time

:47:28.:47:35.

into the peloton. Because the group will start increasing speed but

:47:35.:47:44.

ultimately, it really puts the fear of doom over that group even more so

:47:44.:47:47.

because it wears them out when they start attacking each other. They

:47:47.:47:54.

really need to ride evenly and they have more firepower so they should

:47:54.:47:59.

use that, hopefully to the best of their ability and that will put more

:47:59.:48:02.

pressure on the team sprinters back in the peloton and ultimately, teams

:48:02.:48:09.

around them. And they are smaller teams. It will be interesting to see

:48:10.:48:15.

how this starts to pan out. But these seven riders, they are tired.

:48:15.:48:25.
:48:25.:48:25.

They have been out there all day. does look that way. He was just

:48:25.:48:31.

hanging off the back of that group. Orica Greenedge, they have a vested

:48:31.:48:41.
:48:41.:48:41.

interest with Matthew Goss. Team Sky would be keen as well. The Italian

:48:41.:48:51.
:48:51.:48:51.

team, you would think that they also might be starting to feature because

:48:51.:49:00.

they have been very quiet. Sacha Modolo, he was having one of his

:49:00.:49:09.

best seasons. On that preparation for London? They came in the other

:49:09.:49:16.

week, passed Buckingham Palace, and this time, up Whitehall and through

:49:17.:49:22.

the arch. And the other way around. If there is anyway and at the time

:49:22.:49:28.

of the finish, because there is nothing at the moment, but it has

:49:28.:49:31.

been directly in their faces, and that could play a vital part in

:49:32.:49:41.
:49:42.:49:58.

timing. -- any wind. Again, trying the front of the peloton, still less

:49:58.:50:03.

than one minute behind. But Jack Bauer was keen to get to the front

:50:03.:50:07.

of that leading group as part of the chasing group of three riders.

:50:07.:50:17.
:50:17.:50:20.

Towards the front, trying to catch their breath. Jack Bauer is strong,

:50:20.:50:27.

he will soak that up. One of the continental teams getting a ride

:50:27.:50:37.
:50:37.:50:40.

today. Michael Cuming, trying to get into this group but he will be out

:50:40.:50:45.

the back of this one. Trying to seek refuge in the peloton. It is so

:50:45.:50:53.

hard, when you finally get caught, just to stay in there, usually you

:50:53.:50:58.

just get spat back. And you then have to find your own way to the

:50:58.:51:05.

finish. The last 40 kilometres. That was a very good day by him. And the

:51:06.:51:11.

team director will be extremely pleased with his work. He has

:51:11.:51:21.
:51:21.:51:27.

contributed. He has a parachute. He got up late this morning and had to

:51:27.:51:34.

rush. That is one of their pet hates. When you see riders with

:51:34.:51:40.

jerseys hanging off? All of this money and time spent on equipment.

:51:40.:51:45.

And you cannot order a number on correctly and it hangs off and it

:51:45.:51:54.

catches the wind and it slows you down. They are not at their

:51:54.:52:04.
:52:04.:52:11.

of London 2012. Not too many of those who were racing that they are

:52:11.:52:17.

here. David Millar is one of them. We saw him at the front, riding up

:52:17.:52:25.

Box Hill earlier on. And we are looking at Dominique Rollin. Riding

:52:25.:52:35.
:52:35.:52:38.

on the front. He was a previous winner over one stage of the Tour of

:52:38.:52:48.
:52:48.:52:53.

California. This is the sprint in Cobham. And Ramon Sinkeldam takes

:52:53.:53:01.

it. The training ground of Chelsea. Just inside the end 25. Heading back

:53:01.:53:09.

towards London. Judging by the direction of the wind, not quite so

:53:09.:53:13.

strong in central London, and it will be mostly behind them going

:53:13.:53:22.

back in. It looks like it might be coming across, that tailwind.

:53:22.:53:29.

on the front. It is Great Britain Cycling Team. It is the same riders.

:53:29.:53:37.

Towing everyone along. It is swift up there. Adam Yates is in third

:53:37.:53:47.
:53:47.:53:54.

place. Just policing this. Good turnout in Cobham for these

:53:55.:54:04.
:54:05.:54:12.

cyclists. 35.6 kilometres left to go. This is the chasing peloton.

:54:12.:54:16.

Yates, in such a powerful position. This is just a little reminder of

:54:16.:54:23.

the course. They have just gone through Cobham, over the Thames and

:54:23.:54:29.

towards Kingston. That is the section upon which the race is

:54:29.:54:35.

taking place at this particular moment. Kingston is the only place

:54:35.:54:42.

that will see this race on the way out and on the way in. There was a

:54:42.:54:49.

time check on the way into Hampton Court on the day that Bradley

:54:49.:54:53.

Wiggins got his gold medal on that sunny afternoon. Just a little idea

:54:53.:54:59.

of where we are. We were surely the map of the route into the centre of

:54:59.:55:09.
:55:09.:55:18.

London as we head into the business and of this race. -- end. Out of all

:55:18.:55:22.

of these sprinters, Ben Swift is here. There is one group not far

:55:22.:55:28.

behind. Simon Yates, he had his turn at the front and he just cannot hold

:55:28.:55:38.
:55:38.:55:53.

this case. Attacking. He has gone with it. And it is Alfredo. He has

:55:53.:55:58.

had some decent results in big races this year and he is trying to make

:55:58.:56:03.

his mark. But with only 34 kilometres left to go, he does have

:56:03.:56:10.

his work cut out. Still quite a long way. And they do seem to be working

:56:10.:56:20.
:56:20.:56:22.

well together. I am quite surprised that he put that move in. Ben Swift

:56:22.:56:32.
:56:32.:56:32.

had made that move and he was off the back of Box Hill. His team-mate

:56:32.:56:42.
:56:42.:56:43.

is just up ahead. The Australian. We have not seen who else is there.

:56:43.:56:53.
:56:53.:56:55.

Another rider from Orica Greenedge. That is Christian Meier. And to

:56:55.:57:05.

riders back at the front. Alfredo, in blue. And right behind him, on

:57:05.:57:15.
:57:15.:57:29.

his wheel, 100 and set -- Zico Waeytens. Just 21 years of age. If

:57:29.:57:32.

he could get something here, that really would be a turn up for the

:57:33.:57:38.

books. And they are moving away from the riders that they have left.

:57:38.:57:45.

Getting that information to them. 45 seconds. Just moving across, trying

:57:45.:57:50.

to get behind the motor bike. You cannot blame them! They have been in

:57:50.:57:57.

the saddle for quite a long time. Every we go back this chasing group,

:57:57.:58:02.

Jack Bauer, he is always near the front, always looking as if he is

:58:02.:58:07.

trying to take control of this group and encouraging the others to

:58:07.:58:11.

contribute. But they are just going so much slower than these at the

:58:11.:58:17.

front. This fight has gone out of this group. There is one rider in

:58:17.:58:27.
:58:27.:58:29.

there. Dominique Rollin. He has got a free ride in that group. And the

:58:29.:58:39.
:58:39.:58:39.

main group behind. That is Mathew Hayman. The road race champion from

:58:39.:58:49.
:58:49.:58:54.

2006. Going here. They are having a real go. They had several riders

:58:54.:58:59.

trying to make a go of it in the first half of the race. And here

:58:59.:59:06.

they go. The longer this goes on, it is just so hard because the pace

:59:06.:59:10.

keeps going up. Especially when you have riders committing at the front

:59:10.:59:18.

of the peloton. Like Orica Greenedge and Team Sky. You get to this point

:59:18.:59:21.

in the season and riders have either just signed another contract and

:59:21.:59:27.

they are happy and some of them are not that interested. They are just

:59:28.:59:31.

here to follow the wheels. But there are others who desperately are

:59:32.:59:37.

fighting for anything they can get, trying to show themselves to people

:59:37.:59:41.

and that is what some of these riders are doing. At this stage of

:59:41.:59:47.

the season, post Tour de France. Trying to show their face. Not

:59:47.:59:51.

necessarily trying to fight for the win but just showing themselves to

:59:51.:59:56.

be active and I there and aggressive. And that is how this

:59:56.:00:00.

sport works. Especially this late in the season. This is the last event

:00:01.:00:06.

of RideLondon. This is the centrepiece. The cycling Festival in

:00:06.:00:11.

the image capital with over 70,000 cyclists taking part over this

:00:11.:00:21.
:00:21.:00:22.

begin. And there we are. -- weekend. The next stop will be Kingston upon

:00:22.:00:32.
:00:32.:00:35.

Thames, soon. They have just over 20 kilometres to go at that point. It

:00:35.:00:45.
:00:45.:00:46.

comes at the 197 kilometre mark. There is the leading two. Zico

:00:46.:00:56.
:00:56.:00:56.

Waeytens and Yoann Offredo. They are riding well at the moment. There is

:00:56.:01:00.

not much wind at the moment, but what there is not much wind at the

:01:00.:01:10.
:01:10.:01:12.

moment, but what did exist behind them blow them along. He is bidding

:01:12.:01:19.

himself. We will give him ten out of ten for effort. He is desperate to

:01:19.:01:22.

try and join the leading duo, but I do not think he is going to manage

:01:22.:01:32.

it. He has made it to the second group. That is no consolation,

:01:32.:01:39.

because they have already given up. They really have given up the chase.

:01:39.:01:44.

These two will be the last two out in front. There is sand and

:01:44.:01:48.

racecourse on the left-hand side. has gone through that group, and he

:01:49.:01:54.

is going clear. Sometimes in cases like this, you do get riders who

:01:54.:01:59.

will jump across to him. That is what you will be hoping, to get some

:01:59.:02:09.
:02:09.:02:11.

help. It looks like one of the riders is trying to come across.

:02:11.:02:17.

is impossible to tell who it is. Thomas Rostollan. He was involved in

:02:17.:02:25.

breakaways earlier. Here's the Frenchman, from La Pomme Marseille.

:02:25.:02:35.
:02:35.:02:44.

He is trying to make the running. Fantastic crowds at the roadside.

:02:44.:02:49.

Inside the last article matters. They are really building he'd led

:02:49.:02:55.

the finish as well. There is a big monitor up for everyone to see, so

:02:55.:03:00.

they are able to follow the race into the finish. The race is heading

:03:00.:03:10.
:03:10.:03:13.

towards Thames Ditton. We are runaway towards Kingston on Thames.

:03:13.:03:20.

-- we are on our way. Thomas Rostollan continues to hammer along

:03:20.:03:27.

the road. The crowd are getting bigger at the finish line. It is

:03:27.:03:32.

probably about a dozen deep on either side of the road. There is a

:03:32.:03:41.

big crowd watching the big screen away from where we are sitting.

:03:41.:03:47.

Christian Knees, the German rider, he is on the front. When he is on

:03:47.:03:51.

the front, that means that life will get more difficult for the people in

:03:51.:03:55.

behind, because he can really pile on the pressure. He has a

:03:55.:04:01.

considerable engine. He does. We know that he only get stronger and

:04:01.:04:06.

stronger than a race like this as they roll into the finish. Offredo

:04:06.:04:15.

is looking very strong. He really has the bit between his teeth.

:04:16.:04:24.

he is in a nice position. He is hooked onto the brake levers on top

:04:24.:04:31.

of the handlebars. He looks very powerful as well. This is Thomas

:04:31.:04:37.

Rostollan, and he is out in front of the others in the field. He looks

:04:37.:04:42.

like he is dying a thousand deaths. It looks quite blustery, looking at

:04:42.:04:50.

the branches. He has a nice big tailwind, which is why he is out

:04:50.:04:55.

there on his own. If it was a headwind, he would have been brought

:04:55.:05:02.

back by now. It is quick, they are getting blown back to the Mall.

:05:02.:05:10.

Still just the 59 seconds. It will be some chase. We can see how

:05:10.:05:14.

organised it becomes. The Arrowhead at the front of the peloton tells

:05:14.:05:21.

you that the pace is going up and up. Cannondale in the middle of the

:05:21.:05:31.
:05:31.:05:31.

group of riders. Bardiani Valvole or in the middle as well. We have seen

:05:31.:05:35.

a lot of Peter Sagan. He has been talked up for this race, but I am

:05:35.:05:43.

not sure. We saw him go back for the bottles earlier. He did not look

:05:43.:05:47.

like a man who was conserving his energy for a big finish. But you

:05:47.:05:54.

never know. He may be feeling quietly confident. We are heading to

:05:54.:06:04.
:06:04.:06:05.

Kingston now, just alongside the Thames. This is a big test for Zico

:06:05.:06:12.

Waeytens, the Belgian rider. It has been a really good ride from him

:06:12.:06:16.

today, and commissaire is coming alongside, to tell them what the gap

:06:16.:06:25.

is. It has gone 80 minute, with 25 kilometres to go. That is not a

:06:25.:06:30.

problem for the peloton. The tailwind is certainly helping these

:06:30.:06:35.

guys stay clear of the peloton. Thomas Rostollan is dangling in

:06:35.:06:40.

front of the peloton. Just about, use a nice little carried for the

:06:40.:06:50.
:06:50.:06:56.

peloton. -- he is a nice little carrot for the peloton. The pace is

:06:56.:07:00.

really starting to increase now, but the peloton have not gained for the

:07:00.:07:08.

last five minutes. There is Thomas Rostollan, of La Pomme Marseille.

:07:08.:07:11.

do not think we will be seeing much of him over the next couple of

:07:11.:07:18.

kilometres. He will soon be brought back. Offredo is making all the

:07:18.:07:24.

running here. He is doing all the work. We have not seen waiting is at

:07:24.:07:33.

the front for a little while. -- we have not seen is a at the front. --

:07:33.:07:43.
:07:43.:07:51.

Zico Waeytens. He has just been sitting on his wheel. Having said

:07:51.:07:55.

that, we have not seen him flick his elbow, which is the normal sign for

:07:55.:08:00.

someone to come through. But perhaps Zico Waeytens cannot actually give

:08:00.:08:08.

him a turn. There is Thomas Rostollan. He has done his big

:08:08.:08:18.
:08:18.:08:22.

effort. Here come Bardiani Valvole, and his team-mates. We have not seen

:08:22.:08:25.

Cannondale. Maybe they are waiting and they will ambition the last

:08:25.:08:31.

minute. They have put nothing into this chase at all. The cyclist

:08:31.:08:41.
:08:41.:08:45.

Harrett Kingston just me. -- the cyclists are at Kingston just now.

:08:45.:08:50.

The gap has gone up slightly. There is a sprint coming up in just a

:08:50.:09:00.

moment. It is the final sprint of the day. That was a nice little

:09:00.:09:03.

chase out of the left-hander behind the motorbike. There was a little

:09:03.:09:09.

bit of slipstreaming there. Every little bit helps. The peloton are

:09:09.:09:12.

not that far behind, as they come racing through the centre of the

:09:12.:09:22.
:09:22.:09:22.

time. -- town. Team Sky on the front. Cannondale are starting to

:09:22.:09:27.

loom near the front. You can see a couple of the riders creeping up

:09:27.:09:35.

into the top 15. At the front, especially on roads like this, you

:09:35.:09:40.

need to keep as far to the front as you can. It is a lot easier run

:09:40.:09:46.

these twisty roads. If you are at the back, you get a whiplash effect.

:09:46.:09:49.

You are going a lot quicker at the back, as the riders slowed down and

:09:49.:09:54.

jump out of the bends, by the time you get out of the back of the

:09:54.:10:03.

peloton, you can often be doing five kilometres faster. You are left

:10:03.:10:07.

thinking, how can they be going so quickly, when in reality, they are

:10:07.:10:13.

not. I think it is a shame that Peter Kennaugh and Ian Stannard are

:10:13.:10:18.

not in the team today. Having done so well in the Tour de France, it

:10:18.:10:21.

would have been great for them to get a ride in front of the British

:10:21.:10:31.
:10:31.:10:37.

public. This could certainly be a showcase for those top riders. I do

:10:37.:10:44.

not know by how much more the crowd could swell. If Bradley Wiggins was

:10:44.:10:48.

riding, Mark Cavendish, Chris Froome... Lets hope they are riding

:10:48.:10:55.

in the future. It would be fantastic. They certainly should be.

:10:55.:11:01.

But the programme is so busy for these professional riders. I do not

:11:01.:11:11.
:11:11.:11:12.

know how the team stretched himself to cover races. -- teams stretch

:11:12.:11:20.

themselves. Mark Cavendish is in Denmark. He won the final stage in

:11:20.:11:28.

Copenhagen. The finishing circuit looked rather like the Mall. It is

:11:28.:11:32.

an incredible finishing circuit. It is a showcase for the end of the two

:11:32.:11:36.

of Denmark. They love cycling in Denmark. There are thousands and

:11:36.:11:42.

thousands. Mark Cavendish, his team are not even here, but they chose to

:11:42.:11:46.

ride the two of Denmark. Mark Cavendish came away with the win

:11:46.:11:56.
:11:56.:12:02.

today. -- Tour of Denmark. We are almost into the final 20 kilometres

:12:03.:12:06.

as we head back into London for what form it is to be a spectacular

:12:06.:12:11.

finish. The race is heading in the general direction of Wimbledon just

:12:12.:12:18.

me. That is the next major point along the route. We will have a look

:12:18.:12:28.
:12:28.:12:45.

at that now, to show you where we go quickly now. 20.1 kilometres to

:12:46.:12:51.

go and we still have not seen Peter Sagan for a long time. It will be

:12:51.:12:55.

interesting to see if he is in there. I am actually getting news

:12:55.:13:00.

that he may well have been popped on Box Hill. For all the talk that Box

:13:00.:13:03.

Hill was not going to pick any of them in trouble, I think the myth

:13:03.:13:08.

that Avery Millar put in, it may have picked him out. Do not quote me

:13:08.:13:14.

on that. It is interesting that Cannondale do not have riders at the

:13:14.:13:19.

front of the peloton. There are a couple there, but it eaters sick and

:13:19.:13:25.

was there, normally we would see them en masse. -- but if Peter Sagan

:13:25.:13:32.

was there, normally we would see them. We are inside the last 20

:13:32.:13:41.

kilometres. A rider from Sojasun is out that the front of the peloton.

:13:41.:13:47.

And IG-Sigma Sport rider has gone with him as well. They are all

:13:47.:13:53.

starting to get active. They know they are inside the last 20

:13:53.:14:00.

kilometres. They are starting to move towards the finish. If any of

:14:00.:14:04.

the guys have anything left, they will be trying to do all they can

:14:04.:14:10.

and trying to show themselves as best as possible. One of the great

:14:10.:14:13.

things about the big by grace is that actually it comes to you quite

:14:13.:14:18.

often. You do not have to go anywhere, you just stand at the end

:14:18.:14:23.

of the garden, you do not have to pay 50 for a ticket, you can just

:14:23.:14:31.

watch the race go past. Yoann Offredo and Zico Waeytens are still

:14:31.:14:41.
:14:41.:14:42.

in front. The gap stays the same. Yoann Offredo is not afraid to do

:14:42.:14:52.
:14:52.:14:53.

any work at the front! Let us look at these chasers, just in front of

:14:53.:15:03.
:15:03.:15:07.

the peloton. I would be surprised if any of these sprinters will let

:15:07.:15:17.
:15:17.:15:17.

these riders get too far away. just gives them the carrot to chase.

:15:17.:15:27.
:15:27.:15:29.

Psychological advantage. Mentally, it will really help. One of those

:15:29.:15:37.

riders who will be under pressure today will be Sacha Modolo. His team

:15:37.:15:46.

in that bright green jersey. Expect to see the sprinters from those

:15:46.:15:56.
:15:56.:16:18.

teams. Are we looking at Peter but we do not know. We don't see his

:16:18.:16:25.

team. Coming towards the front, now. Maybe he is back in there. There was

:16:25.:16:35.
:16:35.:16:37.

plenty of time off the back of the race. I would not be surprised if

:16:37.:16:42.

Peter Sagan was still hanging in there. There has been no word of any

:16:42.:16:50.

particular problem. Matt Goss, his team-mate starting to gather at the

:16:50.:17:00.
:17:00.:17:00.

front. There are a lot of Cannondale riders by the looks of things. At

:17:01.:17:10.
:17:11.:17:11.

least three of them. That implies that Peter Sagan is still there.

:17:11.:17:21.

Yoann Offredo is leading the way. The centrepiece of this weekend in

:17:21.:17:23.

which 70 thousand cyclists are taking to the streets of London and

:17:23.:17:31.

Surrey, all to encourage cycling in the English capital. This is really

:17:31.:17:37.

the icing on the cake. This professional road race. 220

:17:37.:17:47.
:17:47.:17:47.

kilometres. And it is headed by the winner of this year 's -- the green

:17:47.:17:57.
:17:57.:17:58.

jersey holder of this year 's Tour to France. Peter Sagan. -- Tour de

:17:58.:18:08.
:18:08.:18:10.

France. You would imagine him to be pushing into the top 15. Plenty of

:18:10.:18:18.

flat roads but I would have been surprised to see him drop by on Box

:18:18.:18:24.

Hill. What about these? 16 kilometres. Have they got any chance

:18:24.:18:32.

of staying awake? It is very slim. 16 kilometres, normally the Temple

:18:32.:18:37.

would be about 1.5 minutes, especially with riders like this.

:18:37.:18:46.

tempo. Saying that, it is twisting, it is harder for the peloton to put

:18:46.:18:51.

any big damage into any group like this. If it was big, open, straight

:18:51.:18:57.

regards, then they would have no chance at all. Climbing out of

:18:57.:19:02.

Wimbledon at the moment and heading towards Wimbledon Common. Yoann

:19:02.:19:08.

Offredo. Doing all of the work at this point? Yes, he is just

:19:08.:19:16.

fighting. I do not know his style well and perhaps that is how he

:19:16.:19:26.
:19:26.:19:27.

writes. He is certainly pulling faces. Trying to wrap himself in.

:19:27.:19:34.

will be hurting as they head up the hill out of Wimbledon and Yoann

:19:34.:19:39.

Offredo is doing a monstrous turn on the front. The peloton is still in

:19:39.:19:49.

his way. 51 seconds. Still can be caught, but they are doing well to

:19:49.:19:55.

stay out this long. That tailwind is certainly helping. The All-England

:19:56.:20:01.

club in the distance. The scene of that great day for Andy Murray not

:20:01.:20:10.

so long ago. Finally, a British winner for London. Heading straight

:20:10.:20:15.

line onto Hockney High Street before going over the bridge, over the

:20:15.:20:24.

Thames. Back with the race as it goes out of Wimbledon. Out of

:20:24.:20:34.
:20:34.:20:45.

They have that wild card place and they have been running well. One of

:20:45.:20:50.

their riders nearly won the race in Lyon. That would have been the

:20:50.:20:56.

biggest race of his life, I a mile. He was so close, attacking, and was

:20:56.:21:01.

finally swept away. The French were desperate for a winner. They did not

:21:01.:21:06.

have one for a number of years. happened, the irony, was it was the

:21:06.:21:12.

French group behind that were doing all of the damage to bring him back.

:21:12.:21:22.
:21:22.:21:24.

It was an Italian who won that stage. Great win. On the left-hand

:21:24.:21:32.

side of Yoann Offredo. And the gap is starting to come down. Just over

:21:32.:21:37.

half of a minute. This was that climb where they did lose a little

:21:37.:21:44.

bit of time coming out of Wimbledon. This rider, we're not sure who that

:21:44.:21:52.

is, from the French squad. We need to see his number. Whoever it is, he

:21:52.:22:01.

is trying hard. Again, he is destined to only do one thing and

:22:01.:22:10.

that this be the carrot. That is Christophe Laborie. And the other

:22:10.:22:20.
:22:20.:22:23.

rider, I think that was Andrea Di Corrado. Really trying to bring the

:22:23.:22:33.
:22:33.:22:45.

race together for his team. Bardiani Valvole. Turning in, just. These two

:22:45.:22:50.

riders, they have done all that they can. They cannot hold anything back,

:22:50.:22:57.

they have to just ride as hard as they can. I think so! Just to give

:22:57.:23:01.

you some idea, if they turn right, they would be heading into

:23:01.:23:06.

Southfields. But they will not be doing that, they will go down the

:23:06.:23:14.

hill. Into Hockney High Street. That will be in the next couple of High

:23:14.:23:22.

Street. -- next couple of minutes. We still have two riders out in

:23:22.:23:28.

front in this race. And the crowd is growing all the time at the finish.

:23:28.:23:36.

It is a beautiful afternoon. It is not too hot. Mice, summer sunshine.

:23:36.:23:43.

And Yoann Offredo, the Frenchman, on the front. As he has been for most

:23:43.:23:53.

of the ride, actually. Since they came from Oxhill. As I mentioned

:23:53.:23:59.

before, he has had some decent results before. 26 years old. He

:23:59.:24:05.

came through the system, through the ranks, and turned professional back

:24:05.:24:15.
:24:15.:24:15.

into thousands died. And the rider with him, Zico Waeytens, he is a

:24:15.:24:25.
:24:25.:24:26.

second year professional and just 21 years old. Team Sky up there, also.

:24:26.:24:32.

Ben Swift still is in with a shout? He is. Matt Goss still has his man

:24:32.:24:40.

in there. He will be important on this finishing straight. If they can

:24:40.:24:44.

get themselves into the right position. Matt Goss did not get

:24:44.:24:51.

himself into the opening stages in Italy but I feel it is formed must

:24:51.:24:56.

have improved since then. He did underperform. He did not look that

:24:56.:25:06.
:25:06.:25:08.

great. But here... Heading down. Team Sky on the front. -- here is

:25:08.:25:13.

Yoann Offredo. Just 20 seconds. It is hard to see that being anywhere

:25:14.:25:19.

near enough. Still with 11 kilometres left to go. But goodness

:25:19.:25:29.
:25:29.:25:29.

me, it will feel like 111 for these riders at the front. It is about 50%

:25:29.:25:39.
:25:39.:25:39.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 49 seconds

:25:39.:26:29.

of the margin that they would rather have. If they had double that

:26:29.:26:39.
:26:39.:26:54.

advantage, it is in the balance. Motoring along the High Street, the

:26:54.:26:56.

peloton is behind them. It is game up for these, pretty much. They

:26:57.:26:59.

normally would have been taken out by now. Those vehicles need to be

:26:59.:27:02.

moved out of the way. Just about to go over the Thames. Here we are. The

:27:02.:27:05.

peloton is starting to jostle for is Asian. They want to bring this back.

:27:05.:27:15.
:27:15.:27:17.

They want to set up that Gallup for their man. We have been talking

:27:18.:27:23.

about these other riders, we do not know if Peter Sagan is still there

:27:23.:27:31.

or Matt Goss. Ben Swift is still there. Absolutely. And hundred and

:27:31.:27:34.

Nicola Boem, from their point of view, and hundred and N Post

:27:34.:27:39.

ChainReaction is pretty swift. He is. He would be one of their next

:27:39.:27:48.

options. But he is certainly not a sprinter. He is normally the leader,

:27:48.:27:58.
:27:58.:28:10.

that man. Up towards Fulham Broadway. Just hanging on why their

:28:11.:28:15.

fingertips. Yoann Offredo will fight to the last but he will not cross

:28:15.:28:20.

the line in first place in London today, despite his best efforts. He

:28:20.:28:24.

had to avoid the traffic lights, that young Belgian behind him. That

:28:24.:28:32.

was quite lucky. Hanging on. That would not have looked very good,

:28:33.:28:38.

wrapped around the traffic light! After all that they have done! Here

:28:38.:28:44.

is the peloton, about to catch them. Heading up Kings Road. Heading into

:28:44.:28:54.
:28:54.:29:04.

London. Only two riders at the front, that is not normal. That is

:29:04.:29:11.

not what we would normally expect to see. Starting to move up. The

:29:11.:29:21.
:29:21.:29:22.

British domestic teams, they are not frightened of this race. Christoph

:29:22.:29:28.

Schweizer, they have got two riders at the front of that peloton. This

:29:28.:29:37.

is a pinch point. Seven kilometres left to go. Heading into central

:29:37.:29:44.

London. They are not far from the bridge. And it is still Yoann

:29:44.:29:51.

Offredo in front. With Zico Waeytens. Clinging onto this most

:29:51.:29:58.

slender of Leeds. But 6.8 kilometres is too far for them to go to stand a

:29:58.:30:06.

chance of staying in front. Just that little anxious look behind.

:30:06.:30:16.
:30:16.:30:17.

Contrasting styles between them. There is two years of difference.

:30:17.:30:21.

But that pedalling style, the delivery and his power, completely

:30:21.:30:31.
:30:31.:30:52.

different. It would be good to look at the peloton, so we can actually

:30:52.:31:02.

mortar. They are moving towards the finish, 1.6 kilometres. The crowd

:35:47.:35:57.
:35:57.:36:01.

gathered in their thousands. What a sprint this is going to be. Who has

:36:01.:36:09.

a chance? There is not a lot of room out there. Garmin Sharp are still

:36:09.:36:15.

riding on the front. There is no sign of Orica Greenedge. FDJ have

:36:16.:36:18.

plenty of blue shirts. There is no sign of anyone being really

:36:18.:36:28.
:36:28.:36:29.

dominant. There is no team taking it up, it is all individuals.

:36:29.:36:34.

Vacansoleil have a couple of riders. There are some of the Garmin Sharp

:36:34.:36:44.
:36:44.:36:48.

riders there. Ben Swift is still in with a chance. They are through

:36:48.:36:52.

Admiralty Argent into the finishing straight. Who will get the upper

:36:52.:36:59.

hand? Inside the final 500 metres. Ben Swift has work to do. Francaise

:36:59.:37:08.

Des Jeux on the front. Vacansoleil are getting involved. 250 metres to

:37:08.:37:18.
:37:18.:37:27.

go. The victory goes to a Arnaud Demarg Francaise Des Jeux. Arnaud

:37:27.:37:32.

Demarg wins the sprint on the Mall. It all came down to a gallop after

:37:32.:37:36.

five hours and seven minutes in the saddle. Arnaud Demarg takes the

:37:36.:37:46.
:37:46.:37:50.

victory. Water ride. Water ride by his team, and he delivers. Where was

:37:50.:37:59.

Peter Sagan, where was Matt Goss? That was an incredible ride by his

:37:59.:38:06.

team. They really did commit. Swift was in a decent position in

:38:06.:38:09.

the last couple of kilometres, but they were too far by coming up the

:38:09.:38:18.

Mall. It was a nice white, straight finish. It was all about desertion.

:38:18.:38:24.

We can just see the Sky helmets a bit further back. Ben Swift is

:38:24.:38:28.

shouting at his team-mate to try and encourage him. He needed to be

:38:28.:38:38.
:38:38.:38:43.

delivered earlier. I think Sasha McDonnell has had to settle for

:38:43.:38:47.

second place in London again. It was Sacha Modolo in second place, I am

:38:47.:38:53.

sure of that. That was a very committed and organised lead out

:38:53.:39:01.

train from FDJ. It was a great display from that team. The whole

:39:01.:39:07.

team, having of radio up the road later on. There we are, Arnaud

:39:07.:39:13.

Demarg crossing the line, and Sacha Modolo in second place. Arnaud

:39:13.:39:19.

Demarg is a bright young prospect. He won the world under 23 road race

:39:19.:39:29.
:39:29.:39:31.

a couple of years ago. He won half a dozen races last year. He had three

:39:31.:39:36.

or four wins leading into the summer, it wins before today. He is

:39:36.:39:41.

not a rider who has come from nowhere. Arnaud Demarg with the

:39:41.:39:46.

victory here. There is David Millar. It was great to see him coming

:39:46.:39:50.

towards the front on Box Hill, and also within the last couple of

:39:51.:39:56.

kilometres. But Arnaud Demarg, the former world champion at under 23

:39:56.:40:05.

level, secures what is probably the biggest victory of his career. It is

:40:05.:40:07.

his biggest professional victory in terms of the publicity surrounding

:40:07.:40:13.

the race. The course proved difficult to separate the riders. We

:40:13.:40:20.

headed riders in a breakaway group. The remnants of that group were

:40:20.:40:26.

swept up as we came off Box Hill. As usual, there were lots of

:40:26.:40:35.

counterattacks and hard riding. But the smart money throughout the race,

:40:36.:40:38.

particularly the longer it went on, was that it was likely to end in a

:40:39.:40:41.

sprint finish. The key question for us was that we were not sure who was

:40:42.:40:46.

there to contest that sprint finish, to be honest with you. In the end,

:40:46.:40:53.

it was Arnaud Demarg two came out on top. We just saw Andrew Tennant

:40:53.:40:58.

going through, one of the Madison Genesis riders. It has been a great

:40:58.:41:08.
:41:08.:41:12.

success, this festival. 20,000 today to part in the London-Surrey 100.

:41:12.:41:18.

The race itself followed on from the sportive riders. Finally it resulted

:41:18.:41:28.
:41:28.:41:31.

in a French bakery for Arnaud Demarg, of FDJ. -- victory. Arnaud

:41:32.:41:38.

Demarg taking the win, to celebrate victory in the London-Surrey

:41:38.:41:45.

Classic. Rob Hayles has come to the

:41:45.:41:50.

commentary box to join me in this invasion position. We spoke about

:41:50.:41:55.

the bunch sprint in the end. As far as predictions, it was the only

:41:55.:42:01.

thing that was right. It was. What an incredible team job. FDJ were

:42:01.:42:11.
:42:11.:42:21.

great. They got Dominique Rollin up the road to start with. Then Yoann

:42:21.:42:27.

Offredo, and that took the pressure off his team-mates. Poor old Sky,

:42:27.:42:34.

they got slightly deaf instead. -- they got slightly distanced.

:42:34.:42:42.

Swift was too far back. The lead out was slightly messy. Yes, it was not

:42:42.:42:46.

the Classic sort of sprint that you would expect to see by all the big

:42:46.:42:55.

teams, because there were no big teams in the end. Was Matt Goss in

:42:55.:43:00.

their? Was Peter Sagan in the? It was difficult to tell. You would

:43:00.:43:03.

imagine that Matt Goss was there because of the way that Orica

:43:03.:43:13.
:43:13.:43:16.

Greenedge were riding, so strong. Let's go back to afraid of. Keep it

:43:16.:43:20.

in a massive dig at the front. did not think he was going to come

:43:20.:43:25.

off the front. The young Belgian rider that was with him, we were

:43:25.:43:29.

saying, he is not coming through, but I think that was because he

:43:29.:43:34.

could not come through. I think afraid was there for his team

:43:34.:43:39.

leader, his sprinter. He was not that concerned. He was not riding

:43:39.:43:46.

for the victory. If you take it back to Box Hill, which is where it

:43:46.:43:52.

started to get interesting, the peloton were not really getting

:43:53.:43:58.

anywhere, and David Millar put in an attack. From there, the whole race

:43:58.:44:03.

opened up? Yes, David Millar put the cat amongst the pigeons. He tried to

:44:04.:44:06.

distance the sprinters, and it looked like he did a pretty good job

:44:06.:44:14.

of that. It is not just the climb, it is the false flat. Box Hill is

:44:15.:44:21.

the catalyst for that. David Millar rode it a few times last year, so he

:44:21.:44:27.

knows the claim well. He knows where to deliver. He delivered, he ignited

:44:27.:44:36.

the race. He was not the sprinters that we expected to cross the line

:44:36.:44:40.

first, but in terms of the racing, first, but in terms of the racing,

:44:40.:44:42.

it was great. There is plenty more great Olympic sport coming up in the

:44:42.:44:52.

:45:57.:46:02.

about the Elite men but yesterday evening was about the woman, the

women's Grand Prix. A 1.3 mile loop. We can catch up with this in the

closing stages. Laura Trott in the centre of the picture. Moving to the

can set up this sprint for Danny King or Laura Trott. It does not

:46:51.:46:56.

look as if these three riders will stay away. It is quite a long way.

:46:56.:47:01.

Particularly with that peloton bearing down. It could be set up for

each amended sprint finish in just over one lap. We have those leaders

joining us. 206 to Tom Scully right hydra. -- Anna Schnitzmeier. It is a

:47:33.:47:41.

that is a great ride from her. is just an amazing cried, and that

is not enough to keep you going, well... That was very encouraging.

:47:45.:47:54.

-- crowd. This will be some final lap. I do not think that these three

:47:54.:48:00.

riders will test. That hungry pack will gobble them up. Katie

:48:00.:48:07.

Colclough, and then Hannah Barnes also in third place. She will make

:48:07.:48:11.

sure that she is in the right position to test that potential

:48:11.:48:21.
:48:21.:48:21.

sprint finish. Anna Schnitzmeier, from Wiggle Honda, in the middle of

:48:21.:48:27.

that group. Fabulous effort from these riders. They have got their

:48:27.:48:33.

timing right. They have put those sprinters in a very good position.

:48:33.:48:40.

Just heading past Horse Guards Parade, one or two of those riders

:48:40.:48:45.

choosing the split in the road, some road furniture to negotiate, some

:48:45.:48:49.

speed bumps along this track. can see some lumps in the middle of

:48:49.:48:56.

the road. And those final tense moments, the final lap. Add a number

:48:56.:49:06.
:49:06.:49:12.

of riders still in contention, all of those big names at the front.

:49:12.:49:21.

Emily Collins. Racing straight in. And there was a crash. One of those

:49:21.:49:29.

Wiggle Honda riders, Jo Rowsell, she was involved. Five riders taken out.

:49:30.:49:34.

Meanwhile, back at the front, Emily Collins from New Zealand is leading

:49:34.:49:42.

the way. Jo Rowsell has fallen heavily. Here is that crash once

:49:42.:49:51.

again. And we can see that very nasty fall for several riders,

:49:51.:49:53.

including Joanna Rowsell, the world and Olympic champion. That was

:49:53.:50:00.

heavy. She went straight over. I would not be surprised if that was

:50:00.:50:06.

serious. About 400 metres left to go, into that finishing straight.

:50:06.:50:13.

They can see that line. But there are still 300 metres left to go.

:50:13.:50:20.

Emily Collins in front. Hannah Barnes is just biding her time.

:50:20.:50:25.

Danny King in the picture and she has got Laura Trott. This is where

:50:25.:50:32.

they will start to open up. Emily Collins will not get it. Laura Trott

:50:32.:50:39.

is coming through the centre! And Laura Trott takes the win! Fantastic

:50:39.:50:43.

sprint at The Mall! And right in front of Buckingham Palace. The

:50:43.:50:45.

ambassador for this race, Laura Trott takes the win that most of

:50:45.:50:53.

this crowd have come to see. It was slightly shortened but that was a

:50:53.:50:57.

spectacular finish. Very hard race to judge with that headwind and it

:50:58.:51:02.

was a very long wait to the finish line. Laura Trott came off the wheel

:51:02.:51:07.

early. No wonder she is patting Danny King on the back, she was a

:51:07.:51:11.

great leader. She is a dream leader and she was in that perfect

:51:11.:51:16.

desertion. Pure desire and will to win that she got to that finish line

:51:16.:51:24.

first. Hannah Barnes was not far away. She rode a soup per race.

:51:24.:51:29.

Laura Trott had superb support from Wiggle Honda. Teamwork really came

:52:22.:52:27.

On Saturday morning, I did the same. Ideally not know how I would feel,

:52:27.:52:34.

which is not like me. The team rode amazingly, we went in with the

:52:34.:52:39.

attitude of attacking a lot more, unlike a couple of weeks ago, when

:52:39.:52:46.

we just road. More aggressive and trying to be more aggressive and

:52:46.:52:56.
:52:56.:52:57.

Danny King was the perfectly at the we knew? For sure. I put my life in

:53:04.:53:13.

just was shouting, go! And she just went and it opened up. Perfect!

:53:13.:53:22.

Hannah Barnes kept you at the nocturnal. It was quite good. It is

:53:22.:53:24.

nice that people can have relationships like that. It just

:53:24.:53:29.

makes racing a large better. What did you make of that performance?

:53:29.:53:35.

Nice teamwork from Wiggle Honda? Typical Laura Trott. Hands in the

:53:35.:53:42.

air. For me, it is not just Laura Trott, it is the way that you come

:53:42.:53:51.

together as a unit. As we have seen with the men, with FDJ. You seem to

:53:52.:54:00.

enjoy this too much, for my liking! You should be under duress! It is

:54:00.:54:04.

exactly that, we just get on so well. Especially with Danny and

:54:04.:54:08.

Joanna. They would do anything for me and I would do the same back and

:54:09.:54:15.

I guess that pays off in the end. She is doing good. Knowing Joanna,

:59:28.:59:35.

thing. She is what she is. There is no edge to her, that is her

character, and she put yourself out there and she is so true and honest.

And the way that she rides, if you look at, you see her on that bike,

amazing, great. Thank you very much. The next cycling on the BBC is
