England v Wales Football: Women's World Cup Qualifiers

Hello. 150 years after the FA was founded in Central London we are in

the capital for a vital World Cup qualifier. We're not sure if the

founding fathers without the scene a women's World Cup with the finals to

be staged in Canada, but England and Wales are determined to be there.

The FA initially did not agree with woman playing football, banning them

from playing on the grounds. But attitudes of changed in the decades

since England made their international bow. And, in the 0

years since the FA took control of the national side they have reached

the World Cup finals three times. They have gone out at the

quarterfinal stage three times. They started this qualifying campaign in

fine style. Their temporary manager in charge for two more games.

Whenever you play one of the home nations their rape going to be rough

and tumble games. Wales have qualified for a major tournament.

But a winning start has given the underdogs cause for optimism. We

want to win this. It will be absolutely huge. When these

neighbours kick off in a few moments time history will count for nothing.

This is the situation in group six. England topped the group after those

emphatic victories over Belarus and Turkey. Belarus got off the mark

with their first win of the campaign. That came against

Montenegro earlier today. At half-time tonight we will bring you

highlights of the qualifier between Scotland and Northern Ireland. Perry

White and Sue Smith with me as well as Jayne Ludlow, the former Wales

captain and Wales legend. All of the action from the first half here at

Millwall. Let's get straight over to the commentators, Lucy Ward and

Jonathan Pearce. This is going to be tougher than the

England will is against Belarus and Turkey. Siobhan Chamberlain is in

the stands. Stephanie Houghton becomes the third centre partner to

partner Casey Stoney. Unbeaten in 20 World Cup qualifiers and have not

conceded a goal in 11 World Cup qualifiers and the six wins out of

six against Wales, who also make a couple of changes. Loren Dykes

returns after five months on the treatment table. Nicola Cousins

strops to the bench. Angharad James makes her first competitive

international start in 16 months with Sophie Ingle dropping deeper

and teenager Lauren Price going to the bench. It will be a glint in the

white shirts and navy blue who will kick us off and under way, kicking

Steph Houghton partnering Casey cold blow

Steph Houghton partnering Casey Stoney. I just wonder what Lucy Ward

thinks about three Centre partners for the captain already in this

qualifying campaign. It is interesting. Casey Stoney played

with Sophie Bradley add link in the last few seasons. It is interesting

this change, to step on. She is a capable centre half. She plays there

for Arsenal. She is capable of playing with different players, but

it is quite an interesting choice, Thiney. -- for me. Don't forget you

in the fever rankings. Just recently, they launched a new plan

for women's football aiming to double the number of players to

20,000, by 2022. Here is their best-known player, Jess Fisher, who

spends most of her time travelling these days. She spends half the year

in Australia and the other half in the United States of America. The

free kick flashes on through, but with players like Jess in the side

and Natasha Harding and Helen Ward, their record goal-scorer, it will be

tough but England. Not an easy game thinking. Wales have got players

playing in the WSL. Wales should be confident. Their ranking is lower

than England and they are considered the underdog, but FAQ bit tight in

the first 15-20 minutes they could be in with a chance.

And Wales might feel aggrieved at that. I thought they had case for

the challenge on Natasha Harding. Sandwiched between two England

defenders. The Bristol Academy player. They

were pipped by Liverpool for the league title and they lost in the FA

Cup final to Arsenal. The number eight was in that Arsenal side that

day. No names on the back of the Welsh shirts. She is still known

officially in FIFA terms as Helen Lander. She is Helen Ward, since

getting married. Aluko is in such brilliant form for

England. Philip James. That much was heavy.

-- Philippa James. We know from what we have seen so

far this season that Jordan Nobbs will get from box to box. She motors

around the pitch so effectively She plays at such high intensity, but

she plays with her brain, as well. She's up against Fishlock from

Wales, and those two will battle it out.

Boomed away by Nicola Davies, the Welsh goalkeeper. Wales have started

off in that first few minutes very well. When they have had the chance

to pressurise the back for of England they have done so in

numbers, and that always helps. Five goals for Aluko in her last seven

internationals for England. Just dropping back into space for

Alex Scott, who loves to get forward.

Arsenal in the Continental cup final against Lincoln.

As much as England played an expansive passing game, they will

look to make it as compact as possible, and their shape will

mirror this. Brent Hills will want this team to move the ball out wide

and get Wales moving out, out the position, but it is a good start for

Wales, so far. He will want good movement from his players.

There is Lucy Bronze. Just tucked away by Kylie Davies, a couple of

Chelsea players. They had a rotten into season,

Chelsea. Ten defeat in 12 games I wonder what effect that would have

with so many players out there knowing each other. Into the

middle, and that was a bright start by England. As they find their feet,

look at how Ellen White runs into the spaces between the full-back and

the centre half. It was a good ball. It needed someone to throw

themselves at it. Toni Duggan was just not off-balance by the

defender. Ellen White, the Arsenal player, works so hard for club and

country. She scored an absolute belter against Turkey with a

Angharad James, still on White. Carney is in the middle. Just

cleared away by Kylie Davies. Alex Scott sees the defender coming

towards and resin through her legs. Not the best ball in. Some danger

down this right-hand side. Calmly, with the corner. That was a strong

one in. Aluko, pressurising the goalkeeper, who has spilled it. Well

away by Natasha Harding, in the end. Switching away to the left-hand side

note, Aluko. She was on the right, she was up against her clubmate

Helen Bleazard hard. Wales will be giving condo this from playing his

players week in, week out. England will be more wary approaching this

game because they know that Wales will give them a test. They will

play a similar sort of game and work very hard. England will not get

anything easy. Casey Stoney has not yet committed

to the new setup in Nottingham, Notts County replacing link on in

the Women's Super League next year. -- Lincoln. At club level she will

want to win things, so she will really have to think about it. She

will have offers. England have a free kick. Given away by the

Coventry player. She went out to Finland in a move organised by the

Finnish born Welsh coach. Steph Houghton will have a go, here.

The left back in the last Olympics. And she forces the save. Nicky

Davies making sure that she covered that.

Steph Houghton is very capable of scoring from that distance. They

measured effort. Had it covered A brilliant Olympics, but a

disappointing European Championships in the summer.

Loren Dykes, she hasn't played since May. Passing the ball well.

Toni Duggan, when crosses are played into the box, she gets on the end of

it. A good header. She was surrounded by a

it. A good header. She was attitude towards meeting the ball

and crosses. There is the Welsh coach, involved

in all levels of Welsh food hall, involved with the under 19. -- all

levels of Welsh football. Wales will not be liking that, one

of their main players. She landed heavily on her ankle, I would

think. I think she might have jarred her knee. It is the ankle. Tasha

Slow progress on football management in Wales, they will want more women

on the board. Lots of women players coming through.

We have already seen in the opening 15 minutes, more tackles in this

game than we saw on the two internationals between Belarus and

Turkey put together. A dent, -- England, a hard night, Natasha

Harding is still off the field of play.

The Nigerian born England international will take this. She

might have put Jordan Nobbs off there a little bit.

Lots of these England players such experience.

Fara Williams, one of the most experienced. In possession. Blocked

very well by Casey Stoney. Casey Stoney looking to qualify for her

seventh major final. Already seeing a fair amount of

rotation from the England forwards. Toni Duggan through the middle,

coming out to the right-hand side. Aluko has gone to the left just

ahead of Lucy Bronze. A great season she has had. So too did Sophie

Ingle. A lovely ball forward. Just couldn't

get away from Steph Houghton. One more strident she would have been

in. -- one more stride and she would have been him.

Doesn't really get there. The flag is raised. Maybe a handball. That

was a great ball. Beaten the defender. Did she avoids the

handball? It did hit her on the arm with a this is what Wales

Helen Ward, some family support here, she is a north London girl

from Brent. A little group of the Welsh players

do come from London. Here comes Toni Duggan, dropping into space. Just

behind Aluko, and that should be the guilty -- goalkeeper's.

Jessica Fishlock. She's definitely the main player in this team, I

would like to see her further forward. She is really holding her

arm there. She seems to be in a lot of pain. 71 caps, Michelle Green on

the team has more. Really the most accomplished of these Welsh

international players. It would be a real blow for Wales that she cannot

come back on. And the shaft from Fara Williams drops over the line.

hit it. Don't admit that. Really heavy strapping.

England's toughest test so far in qualifying for Canada 2015. Playing

very well so far. A high, hanging cross into the box. A good ball by

Steph Houghton. Was in the air quite a while. Starting to frustrate

England a little bit. The longer it stayed at 0-0, the more chance that

Wales would get something from the game. But they have started in good

shape with good intensity. Devon White is a creator of goals, as well

as a scorer of goals -- Ellen White. That gets away from Scott. No one up

in support. She will have to go all the way herself. That was a

courageous run, from the 22-year-old. Wiltshire is known to

be a tricky, technical player. But when she takes on players like that,

she can produce something from it. It is brilliant coming to a game

were the underdogs are so confident. She has gone down again, holding

that hand. She is in real discomfort.

She is so important for Wales. Scott, with the little dummy. She

Lucy Bronze, the captain of Liverpool. She turns 22 on Monday.

She is captain of the side when there are players much more

experienced than her around. A very good Liverpool set up. They are a

real force to be reckoned with now. Bringing Jordan Nobbs into play and

that is a lovely pass. England playing some good football at the

moment. Carney in to the box. And straight

into the arms of Nicola Davies. Carney from range, dipping! That is

a great effort from Karen Carney. She noticed the goalkeeper with a

bit off of the line, and she just tipped it over. The former Menai

Bridge Tigers player. She played with the boys up to the age of 1.

From a different angle. It just opened up in front of Karen Carney.

England have reached the quarterfinals of the last two World

Cup finals. Wales have never been in a major finals.

White working hard. England have not lost any of their last 16 home

matches, unbeaten in 36 World Cup and European qualifiers.

The last lost to France in the 003 play-off. England have kept 19

consecutive clean sheets in home qualifiers.

Wales had that one moment of danger when Ward got in at the back. Wales

have defended well. They are set up to play that way to frustrate

England a little bit, and they have done well. You have got to give

credit to Wales. England have just kept knocking at the door, with the

movement on that front three. The thing is, that the pace up front

for England is what Wales will be most scared and it is not really the

thing that England have used, yet. Brent Hills on the left-hand side

was at Millwall as a coach at the Old Den. Those facilities must love

by Millwall fans -- much loved. It was a mean old ways to go. -- place

to go. Wiltshire, can she keep it in? Free kick.

Wales performance in the 2013 European cup qualifiers much better

than the previous campaign, ten points from eight games.

Lovely first time ball. Ellen White has options in the middle. She tried

to play it back to Karen Carney he was making a late one in there. --

late run. Lovely first time ball by Alex Scott. All the other time she

has brought it down, she can see that one, and it is something a

little different. It brought Wales out a little bit, but the ball in

was not as good as the initial pass. Wales are what more quick to close

down on Jordan Nobbs when she advances.

You get the feeling that if England open the scoring, Wales will not

have enough power to come back at them. Wales have got to get the

opening goal if they want to have any chance of pulling off a victory.

When Wales push for what they are going to be vulnerable to the pace

that England have got in the team. -- push forward.

Lucy Bronze is aware of that. Gets it away. Back to Lucy Bronze.

The seven group winners will go to the finals and the four best runners

up will face play-off matches. They will have competitive hopes of

finishing. England are hot favourites to win the group.

Belarus, Montenegro and Turkey the other teams involved. Montenegro

must be pretty awful, because Belarus were not very good.

Ward chasing. Had that little bit of extra power of the push off, to get

there. Jess Fishlock, she was in such pain from that arm injury. She

could not put her hand down to steady herself when she had a little

off, I suspect. She will not go voluntarily.

Good play by Alex Scott. She put in Aluko. Attacking the ball well, but

there was somebody in the way. My this stage in the last game she

had a hat-trick, Toni Duggan. some frustration showing. That was

not a good ball at all. For the moment, Wales have frustrated

England. The Welsh manager put out his team to do a job, and they are

doing it well. She did simply not have the strength

to get away from Toni Duggan, there. A good angle on that pass. Sensibly

done. A good challenge by Fishlock, and as

she goes down, she is holding her hand again. Clever play on the right

for England. Scott involved in a lot of it. Jordan Nobbs took the place

of Aluko in the challenge. Very hard first for England.

Away by Loren Dykes 's and over to Scott. Looking for a 13th England

goal. That would be worth the effort.

Karen Bardsley, she missed the two games last month through injury and

illness. She is another one who is not yet committed to playing in the

Notts County setup. Sophie Bradley and Jess Clarke, they are on the

bench, they will be playing for the new Notts County side in the super

league next summer. It has two divisions. It has been a success. If

you look at the development of women's football in the last 20

years of this 150 FA years, it has been startling. Yes, it is going to

the next level, they have brought in foreign players which has made it at

that standard and it is not just Arsenal winning everything. Having a

more even league has helped the progress of women's book all. -

more even league has helped the women's football. They are trying to

recruit more young girls to football.

I think when people will have a go at the FA, they forget about what

work is done at grassroots level. The amount of courses that places

like Sussex County FA layer on his phenomenal. A great effort! A really

good effort! A backward header! Instinct of Loch. And Wales survive.

-- and instinctive block. Someone is trying to get themselves in front at

half-time. Inspiring. White is underneath it. An incredible header.

So athletic. She manages to do, and it was a good save. An incredible

header and a really, really good save. England win a corner. It has

been a chequered 150 years for the FA. One of the great soap opera is,

England had the majority of possession and chances, but this is

a hard night for them at half-time, 0-0.

A very different first that England experienced with Belarus in Turkey.

What have we made of the England performance? We have seen a lot of

the ball. We need to be much sharper in possession and more accurate in

passing. Carnie needs to get on the ball higher up, she has had a chance

with her head, but not on the floor when she creates open chances. What

have you made of Wales, Jane? Their defence organisation has been superb

and hopefully they can continue that in the next 45 minutes. Is that as

tight as you thought it would be? I thought it would be tight. England

know what Wales are about, that is what they did tonight. They have

made it difficult for England to play. We will be looking out all of

Welcome back to Millwall and it is -0. Jayne Ludlow is with this

evening. You told us about your opinions on the performance by Wales

tonight, you notice that England have been targeting them. The

full-back position is something that is totally new to Helen Bleazard, it

is a new position for her, she is still learning, they have been

targeting that, she has done well for parts of the first half, but at

times she dives in, and you can see Alex Scott, it was great skill

times she dives in, and you can see legs, but Helen has too learned

quickly. The second half legs, but Helen has too learned

difficult, but to fully she can battle and do the best she can for

us. And you think that Wales are defending too deeply? Yes, they have

dealt deep. Alex Scott getting some of the crosses in. They need to put

a stop to England's pace up front which can be scary, but we have

added a few good chances, but nothing is quite falling to an

England player, and with no real quality in that final penalty box.

Wales continue to give the ball away, how they defending to do? What

should they be doing? They are not getting under pressure because they

are too deep, they're not getting their full-backs high up enough

England are doing well quickly. It is hard. I think that Sarah

Wiltshire has done well picking up a few scraps, to try to give the ball

up, but it will be hard. They believe in their own ability for

sure, and in this tight area under pressure, you need to lift it high

and release the pressure. With regard to defending deep, it is a

tactic we have to do, and as long as the centre forwards do not change

things too high, then we can do well in the second half by restricting

England to the centre of the path and by keeping the distances tight,

we will frustrate England. Some great saves by Nicola Davies, you're

sort of these, but not very pleased! She did fantastically for us all of

this season, and here, she is very commanding and she knows where to,

and when not come. A lot of the chances of arrangement have come

from distance, but here, it is lovely day for Alex Scott and Aluko,

and a lovely header lovely day for Alex Scott and Aluko,

Carney. Point blank range, difficult saves, but she is there and she s

good at that, so she has had a very good first half. England will be

well aware of the threat with Helen Ward, she proved at times that she

can be a threat tonight. Helen is a great outlet for us. We need to use

her more and look for her in the channels to try to utilise her

pace. She was unfortunate once or twice that a touch let down. We need

to use as much as possible in the second half. The two centre hearts,

they have not really been picking her up and Steph Houghton has the

pace to come back. She could have done better with a better first

touch. She has been caught in the middle of the two centre halves

Poland. There was another big all British class coming up in the

women's game next month. Arsenal have been drawn against the Scottish

title holders Glasgow city in the Champions League. It is a tie that

players on both sides are looking forward to. I've seen what it means

to the Young ones, and watch. What they are doing as a club is

brilliant. And so, I would love nothing more than to help them get

through to the quarterfinals. And I feel that that is definitely

something that the club definitely deserves. It has been quoted as the

Battle of Britain which is quite cool. I am looking forward to it. It

will be a difficult game. But we're pleased to be in the round of 1 .

So, we're looking forward to it playing at home first, hopefully we

can put in a good performance there, and then go away to Glasgow. Really

looking forward to it. The first leg at Arsenal is on Sunday night

November, with the return match in Glasgow the following Wednesday

night. Birmingham have made it through to the last 16 and face a

trip to Russia. The Battle of Britain. That is work -- what we are

calling it. It is a lot closer, better travelling than going to

Russia. It will be a very tight game and it will be contested very

feistily. Glasgow will be desperate to try and push on further having

got this far and the two men. You mentioned Jess Fisher. She is a

massive threat for them. It is just great for British football to have

that sort of tie. I would personally love to go and watch that game. It

will definitely be quite feisty if you like. That come. Maybe some

dinner as well. Jess Fishlock who you would imagine would be playing

on loan at the Glasgow was injured tonight. Looked like she was in a

lot of pain. It looked like it could be her wrist or her thumb. I am

hoping that she comes out in the second half. She would be a huge

loss to Wales. It is quite innocuous. I am not sure whether she

did it by hitting one of her own players or the English players. She

will not want to stay in the changing room right now. She's back

out, you will be delighted to see. Back to the commentators, Lucy Ward

and Jonathan Pierce. 0-0 so far Let's rejoin the game. Jess Fishlock

is there, on the left of your picture. But there will be no

Natasha Harding in the second half for Wales. They have made a

substitution. They have brought on Carys Hawkins. The 25-year-old who

plays in Sweden. It is her seventh cap. She has come on. She has come

on, on the right-hand side down the touchline there, now. You can play

full-back, she can play on the right-hand side. Place in Europe in

the summer, Australia in the winter, for Perth Glory. That is the change

that Wales have made. Harding got an injury early on in that first half.

She did struggle with that ankle, I think. And they have decided to make

that change. If you have a

So, Faye White, what did you make of that 2-0 victory for England? I

think it was good, because the team remained patient in their approach

and increase the intensity. He needed that to unlock the defence,

because they were sitting deep on the defence and wasn't a lot of

space. When England played good one and two touches around the box, and

were precise, it showed some good quality finishes. Jane, your

thoughts on Wales? I'm disappointed for them, they worked extremely

hard, but they would have learnt a lot on playing against England, and

to fully we can continue to build on the work that they have already

done. The two goals were Jordan Nobbs and Toni Duggan, the people

that they were calling for to be played during the European

Championships in the summer? Yes, they gave the team energy, youth and

enthusiasm. Tonight they are constantly wanting to get on the

wall and go forward and create things. I think they definitely

helped, along with Fara Williams who had a fantastic game. They

definitely played well and got the result they needed. Wales were very

difficult to break down. They were set up in a way that was difficult

and England managed to do it with those players and the rest of the

team. At half-time, you said that England's temper wasn't as it should

have been, that was approved in the first goal in the second half. It

was good play. Lugo does well to take the defender on. -- Aluko does

well. Not sure if Alex Scott was picking out, but just highlighting

Jess picking out, but just highlighting

shoulder. A brilliant finish by Jordan. Also, to see the keeper just

slightly off, she knows what she is trying to do and that is what you

need, in stepped around the box It is great that she can have a finish

that quality. Do you think Jess Fishlock was thinking about her

injury at that stage? I think it was a case of Hayley being drawn out

wide and diving in but with the central midfielder being out that

wide, Jess was left on her lonesome, and then the injury could have had

an effect. It will obviously affect her mentally and she seemed to be in

a bit of pain. She was a huge loss when she went off. It makes a huge

difference because she is the captain, the leader, she is there to

organise the team. And Michelle Green did a fantastic job replacing

her, but Jess's experience would always be a big loss. And the second

goal was by Toni Duggan. It took forever for the ball to come down.

It's sort of goes up in the era and as a player you are thinking, come

down, come down and as it comes down, that is a lovely technique, to

get over the ball and keep it down. It was a fantastic finish from Toni

Duggan and in the end, it was a long ball from England which we are not

used to. A fantastic technique and she looks absolutely delighted

because at 1-0, anything can happen. Wales had some chances. It

could have been more for England had it not been for the Welsh goalkeeper

making some crucial saves. Yes, she made some crucial saves. This was a

great header by Karen Carney, almost right at Nicola Davies, but she does

well to react. Certainly under pressure from a lot of crosses

today. Here, Steph Houghton is unsighted a little bit by Aluko but

she has been making great saves all season for Doncaster as well. Helen

Ward always looked a threat for Wales on the break. One surprise she

exploited some gaps in the England defence. Helen is a key player for

Wales. She has over 50 goals, I think. The team is very well

organised defensively now, and when we are in possession we need to do a

little bit more, with the ball. She is key to us for the rest of the

campaign. I think she did very well to get in between the two England

centre halves. She did it three times in the game. She was able to

figure that out quickly. She's running from deep. She has got good

pace. There, it is just the first touch. But it is swerving away from

the post and Karen Bardsley had it covered. But she is a threat. We'll

pitch side with the goal-scorers. You had to wait a little bit longer

than the last game to get your goal. Yes, they frustrated us in the first

half but I am happy that the goal came and more than happy that we got

the three points. And the performers in the first half that one thing and

that was the goal and you got it at the start of the second half. I am

just glad to get on the pitch and put on a performance. It is a bonus

to get on the scoresheet. At half-time did the coach says Digg

later on in the game and just try to keep putting balls in. And to try

nine points from three games and people will be thinking that this is

easy, but you have the first of the difficult away trips, although

having beaten Turkey easily at home, what is it going to be like watching

Mark we performed well. It was a big scoreline, we won 8-0. But

complacency can make it hard. There could be a slip up. But we're going

into the game with full confidence and if we can keep doing what we are

doing then we can put up a good performance. It looks commanding.

What is the most pleasing thing about these performances beyond

having won the three games? As a squad we are all working hard and

working together. That has shown in the past three games. I think if we

have got the team together, we will win games. Well done to both of you

tonight. It was a shocking disappointment in

the euros when they finished bottom of the group. They had to do it

didn't they? They need to forget about it and move on and that is

exactly what they have done and they have building confidence. They have

impressed not just with the results but more with how they have played

and how they have looked together as a team which they did not look in

the euros. They seem to be playing with confidence and freedom and they

have showed, winning all three games and on top of the group. I was just

talking about the impact of Toni Duggan and Jordan Nobbs. We lost

some firmament. What sort of impact have a had with their presence, the

youth, their personality? We have got to bring in that injection of

vibrance. In the euros, we saw two games England were expected to win

and they struggle to break down teams. And we lost our way and allow

the other teams to come into it but today, remained patient, believing

in the way that we were going to play and our game plan, and that is

the pleasing thing. We did not get frustrated. We upped the tempo in

the second half to get that goal. In the euros when the goals did not

come, it would likely lacked an idea or any way of breaking teams down,

and we certainly looked nervous then, when we were defending our own

goal, but it did not look like that today. We can hear from the Wales

manager who is with Jonathan Pearce. I am proud of the performance from

our players. We played one of the best teams in the world today. In an

excellent stadium, and we played against a good team, and I am proud

of the way that the players have performed. We have problems in the

first half losing two players, not able to play fully. And I felt that

our girls made it a game and I would like to congratulate England also

because they continue to put in good performances. The Pasha Harding was

injured. Jess Fishlock came out and try to battle on. How brave was she

with that arm injury? They were both extremely tough, but you could see

that she was struggling and just looking at the situation, she gave

us the thumbs up, and just wanted to try, but everyone could see that

that rest was troubling her. Unlucky to lose both such great players And

the third blow was the timing of the first England goal just after

half-time. We knew that we had to be focused on the start of the half and

the end of the half, as well, because there was going to be

pressure, but it felt like it was a disappointing goal to concede. I

know that the girls will be disappointed because they battled so

well and defended so well. Given the new plan for women's football in

Wales and we the game has come from, you must be very encouraged. I

am very pleased with the way that the national team has improved. With

the young players coming in, to give a little bit of competition and

support to the senior players, taking woman's football through that

pioneering stage, you could call it, and I am pleased with the overall

progress. Best of luck for the rest of the campaign. Thank you very

much, I appreciated. You could be doing that Jess Fishlock on the

pitch when you're playing against England. She was clearly in pain.

How much the think it affected her? She looks like she is in an extreme

game. She worked as hard as she could to continue. But

huge loss to the Welsh national team if she is not on the pitch. I

think, the game today as a whole, the goals will have learned a lot.

They will have taken many positives from the game. England are a top

nation. One of the top in the world, and we are still very much a

developing nation. There have been lots of positives in the last two

months and in the previous two three years, but we still have a hell of a

lot of work to do, but it is good to be an enjoyable journey. We are at

the start of a process that will hopefully bring success in future.

We have some good young players coming through, who will hopefully

be part of this in years to come. But I feel sorry for Jess Fishlock.

She would have been looking forward to this game for months. Since the

schedule was arranged. She would have been looking forward to this

immensely and has had to come off injured, so disappointing for her.

We can hear from the England interim manager Brent Hills. You had to be

more patient before those goals came. That was key, today, to keep

playing our game, to pass the ball and dominate possession and wait for

the chances but I was certain would come. Did you say at half-time to

Jordan Nobbs to push on a bit? She got that role attacking. I think she

does that naturally. I did not particularly said that. I used the

words that you just use, be patient and keep seeking to dominate

possession and I felt if we did that and kept switching play that gaps

would appear, and they were tired, and they did. I am pleased the Toni

Duggan as well. Any problems for Turkey? Apart from the 18 hours

travel and a 30 degrees heat, no. It is looking

the table. The way that the squad is playing and the way

the table. The way that the squad is together after the disappointments

in the euros, is it even more pleasing, that run of results? I

just try to emphasise the basics that we have often emphasise, and,

to stress that we must play with energy and tempo. There was no other

way. And they are starting to believe that they can do it. They

must not take their foot off the gas and the complacent going to Turkey.

We saw that tonight. Helen Ward got through, and when you Dominic

possession, that can be a problem. And that header late on from Loren

encouraging. I expect us to beat Belarus and Turkey convincingly and

by many goals, which was positive. I knew that it would be a big test

against Wales with their experience. And their players knowing what our

players are about, playing in the WSL, but we achieved what we wanted

to, we were patient, and that is the positive thing, and we put up the

tempo when we needed it. And you are in charge of leading ladies,

preparing for life in WSL two. How is that going? Fantastic. I'm

extremely lucky to end up in a club that sees the women's game with

loads of potential. We have a young squad who are thoroughly enjoying

the training that we do so far. We need one or two experienced heads,

but, the season cannot come round quick enough for us. We are

thoroughly looking forward to WSL kicking off in March. It has been

fantastic having you here tonight. And, Sue, what are your overall

thoughts about what you have seen? They have developed from the euros.
