The British Grand Prix - Highlights Formula 1

British Grand Prix. This is round eight on the calendar

of 19. It is a bit blustery but the sun is shining and it is a glorious

day per racing, the home race for so many of the teams. So what is it

like for a driver to win your home grand prix? We can speak to double

Silverstone winner David Coulthard. It must be amazing. It is amazing.

I'm so per to have won this Grand Prix. A lot of the British drivers

stay on-site, that is what I did, so you have family support, crowd

support and it is like a festival feeling. Can you hear the crowd?You

can. I can remember passing a Ferrari and hearing the noise of the

crowd, which kind of put me off for a moment, because you're not

expecting it, but there is so much energy. Any added pressure?When you

are in the car, you don't think about it, but when you are in the

car --out of the car, you have all the people asking you about it and

wishing you well, and that definitely drained you more at the

British Grand Prix. But so worthwhile if you win it.

Absolutely, that is what makes it so special. Let's have a look at the

special. Let's have a look at the champions, see how they are doing so

far. There is some chasing to be done. In terms of the British

riders, Lewis Hamilton is in fourth, Paul di Resta in eighth and Jenson

Button rending of the top ten. Red Bull are on a charge in the

constructors' championship. It is then tied down to Mercedes and Force

India are still ahead of McLaren. We will have all of the race action for

you in a minute, but first of all, The grandstands were packed and the

sun almost shining as qualifying got underway at Silverstone. One of the

first big names to fall was Jenson Button, who couldn't find any place

in the car. His P 11 and Sergio Perez in 14th means that no McLaren

qualified in the top ten for the home Grand Prix. Ferrari didn't do

much better, Felipe Massa went out in QT and whilst Alonso did make it

a Q3, he was frustrated as his championship rivals went faster.

Ricciardo made the most of his short window in the Toro Rosso. Red Bull

are looking for a replacement driver next season for Mark Webber. He

starts in sixth. Paul di Resta used home advantage and a quick car to

finish fifth. But the stewards found his car to be 1.5 kilos light and he

was disqualified and now must start from the back of the grid. The Red

Bull cars are traditionally quick around Silverstone but Mark Webber

could only manage fourth, whilst Sebastien Vettel was third. That

left the Mercedes cars to battle it out and Lewis Hamilton put in a

stunning lap, getting pole position and a new lap record. The support

has been incredible, so a big thank you to everyone. It means the world

to me to come here and get on the front row for them, because they are

so supportive every year. This is the version I have had the car to do

it, so I am so proud the team. this is the first year.

Then the Red Bull cars. Because Paul di Resta is disqualified, everybody

moves forward. Adrian Sutil is now the highest placed fourth in the.

Then come the Lotus cars and Fernando Alonso is then up to ninth.

Jenson Button now makes it into the top ten. Maldonado is the highest

placed Williams car with his team-mate Bottas alongside. Max

Chilton makes his home race debut. Van der Garde makes a penalty from

Canada and is 21st and frustrated Canada and is 21st and frustrated

Paul di Resta is where the set to get under way at Silverstone.

Lights out, away we go and Lewis Hamilton lights up the rear tyres

but it is Nico Rosberg I was very slow away and it is a good start for

Sebastien Vettel. And contact their, was it one of the Toro

Rossos? It was a good start for Lewis Hamilton but it is all

happening behind him. I think it was contact with Mark Webber. One of the

Ferrari is managing to work their way through. Kimi Raikkonen has had

an excellent start but Lewis Hamilton has the start he was hoping

for. Sebastien Vettel is second, Nico Rosberg is in third place. Mark

Webber is way down, he has come through in 15th place. It has all

gone wrong for the Australian. On-board would Fernando Alonso as he

chases after Romain Grosjean. so difficult at this phase of the

race, heavy with fuel and the tyres have lost temperature and all the

time, you are trying to make progress while somebody is attacking

you from the rear. Felipe Massa has made a remarkable start for he is

now running in fifth position, but he started down in 11th, so that is

astonishing. I'm not sure how he has managed it. A little wobble

therefrom Jenson Button, he has Alonso behind him. He cut the kerb

at Becketts. Here comes Alonso, then the inside, but Jenson Button is

staying with him. In the end, he has to give it up. Just ran out of space

on the Exeter. Jenson Button it has seen Alonso go through. Let's see

what the positions are. It is Hamilton, Sebastien Vettel and Nico

Rosberg. Raikkonen with a good first lap. Ricciardo lost out of it and

then it is Romain Grosjean and Jenson Button in the top ten.

Grosjean out braking himself in the running of the section. Jenson

Button already having a difficult afternoon. That is Romain Grosjean

that Alonso is trying to get past. Side-by-side into Luffield, just

inches separating the cars. TEAM RADIO: We can see front wing

damage, it looks the same as Canada. And Alonso is through.

Just watched the left-hand side, Lewis Hamilton got a lot of

wheelspin, but once he could, he launched away. Mark Webber actually

gets sideswiped, is it with the Lotus? It hits him and pushes him

wide? I don't want to take any flak but I am hazarding a guess that it

is Grosjean. They have had their incidents in the past. Fairly clean

up there, Grosjean hit di Resta there last year. Mark Webber is then

in 12th place, bearing down on Jenson Button. Two good mates, of

course, they have been around in Formula One a long time. Closing up

a lot on the Hangar Straight, look at the difference in speed and he

gets past him. That really interests me, because normally the Red Bull

cars are not quick in a straight line. It was also compounded by the

fact that there is a slight headwind on the Hangar Straight, coming

across left-to-right as you look down the straight, that is why

Jenson Button runs into it. You can see the offsetting the actual

distance between the cars, Jenson Button with no DRS, Mark Webber with

DRS wide open. The cars are still heavy with fuel at this stage.

Attire has gone! It is Lewis Hamilton! Hamilton is out of the

British Grand Prix, surely, unless he can get back to the pits, but he

is out of the chances of winning this race. That is real drama for

Lewis Hamilton, the crowd watching cannot believe it. It has happened

to him down Wellington Strait, which is as far away from the pits as you

could want, and unfortunately for Lewis, it is a long way back to the

pits. We saw a tyre failure on Perez's are in free practice, we

were told it was a cut in the tire due to some debris or catching a

kerb, so Pirelli will want to say it is the same thing. Doing a lot of

damage to the rear bodywork. Ross Brawn as impassive as ever as he

watches from the pit wall, but their chances of seeing Hamilton in this

race are over. Nico Rosberg is now in second place. Sebastien Vettel is

now the race leader with a two second lead over Nico Rosberg. But

Lewis Hamilton's dreams of winning the British Grand Prix are over for

another year. He has one victory in 2008 and it is proving hard to

repeat. It is just coming on to Wellington, up to 50, six beginner,

and you can see it is an absolute failure -- up to fifth gear, sixth

gear. The car overheats as it hits the corner. Just watch the steering.

You can see it looks like a small puncture, because he was already

correcting into it as he went on to the Wellington, and then it has just

imploded. Sebastien Vettel had to take some avoiding action as bits of

rubber were being fired at him. It does mean that all may lead this

Sebastien Vettel. Bits of rubber flying around that he is on his way

once again and will get a feel for the car. Adrian Sutil in the Force

India is in third place, what a fantastic results this could be, but

it is very early days and he has the might of Ferrari behind in the shape

of Felipe Massa. Kimi Raikkonen is running in fifth place and Daniel

Ricciardo is in sixth position. Felipe Massa getting that little bit

closer, having a think about it but not going through. It is a very late

apex at Stowe corner, so unless you are committed, you have to bail out

of it. So sensible stuff from Felipe Massa. Under pressure now from

Raikkonen in the Lotus as they come to the start finish line. Grosjean

has come into the pits. They have gone for a stop on lap ten, that

would sort of indicate perhaps they will be going for three stops, but

you never know, they might do to long stints. Gary, we have seen a

drama with tyres again, what are your thoughts?

GARY ANDERSON: That I was deflated, the tread was all over... Felipe

Massa has gone off. What was the cause of that? It is a puncture, but

why? I would say that is the same thing, the left rear tyre. Something

out there may be cutting the tyres on the kerbs. Left rear tyre is

taking a lot of load. It is the same area of track, out of track, at

Wellington. He actually goes through the entry corner and it gives him

the chance. The left rear has obviously gone. He wasn't on the

kerb too much on the inside, I didn't think. Fairly standard line.

And it goes before he even gets halfway through. I don't know if

there is any debris out there. cars affected by deflation is of

some sort, whether it is caused by, as you say, bits of debris from the

front wing Mark Webber's car or other bits on circuit, but whatever

it is, it is very dramatic. We have lost Hamilton from the lead, he is

now in last place. We have to see whether Felipe Massa makes it back.

Nervous times for Pirelli as we see Fernando Alonso come in. I wonder if

we will see many teams bailout of the two-stop. Mark Webber is getting

the nose change, is it affecting the balance of the car too much? Let's

see if anyone else decides to make it to a three stop. I almost wonder

if there are concerns about debris that that was part of it, they don't

want that wing disintegrating any more, so they have put a new one on

for Mark Webber. He comes back out in 14th position. Hamilton is

running at the back, Felipe Massa is back out as well. He has rejoined.

He is now running in last place. Mark Webber in 14th position. There

is Paul di Resta. I am sorry, he has not even made it into the pits yet.

It has been a very slow run round to the pit lane. We can notice the

debris of his tyres hanging onto the inside rim, so that will flap around

and damage the floor. It was the odd side of the room and they have

problems seating the tyre. -- the rim. The careful when he hits the

deck because it could he a man with his hand on the gun stuck in there.

-- there could be. Look at these guys, all fighting. Jean-Eric Vergne

fighting off Romain Grosjean. Jean-Eric Vergne not only fighting

for track position but the opportunity to put his name forward

to replace Mark Webber next year. Daniel Ricciardo will have to

qualify. TEAM RADIO: Kimi Raikkonen is faster than you! That is a

comment we have heard very often on the team radio! Jean-Eric Vergne! He

manages to go straight, that is the third tyre failure we have seen

today. This is shocking. We did not expect to see this in grand prix

racing. Thankfully, Jean-Eric Vergne gets into the pits, it happened just

before the pit lane. This is exactly what you do not want to see. Tyre

failure. Very unpredictable. And the drivers are doing a fantastic job of

holding this. We had a message from Red Bull that they thought the

towers would be damaged on those kerbs but clearly that happened at

full speed on Hangar Straight. They are using those kerbs through

Becketts so those brave marshals get out to clear the way that debris and

if they get much more, we could well see the safety car. Let us

concentrate on the car in front. The side of the tyre, it just loses its

structure and at that point, that speed, 190 mph, there is no way it

can maintain structure. He has a slight puncture already at this

point and you can see the delamination. The entire surface

comes off the tyre. Incredibly well held. This is the view from Kimi

Raikkonen as he was trying to get past Romain Grosjean. Look at that

shrapnel! That tyre is made up of bits of metal and things like that

so that is not pleasant at all. We have the safety car. It really has

been pretty frantic Resnick -- pretty frantic? What has been

remarkable is a has been very little bodywork damage to the cars. TEAM

RADIO: stay off the kerbs as well as you can, there are punctures all

around. I was going to comment on Sergio Perez, his failure in

practice, the team thought that was because of the kerb and he had to

replace his rear wing. The three guys have been very lucky so far.

This is the replay of the rear tyre failure from Jean-Eric Vergne.

into Kimi Raikkonen. I would not be surprised if some of that find its

way into his radiators and that might affect Lotus this afternoon.

This is not something they can practice, changing the tyre when it

has been torn to pieces. Given this afternoon, perhaps teams have to

look at this in future. TEAM RADIO: Sebastian Vettel has been busy,

there have been punctures on at least three cars. Mostly the left

rear tyre. The inside shoulder. We are not sure if there is a problem

with the tyres or the kerbs. From your site, stay away from the kerbs.

Try to save the left rear tyre. This was Lewis Hamilton, leading.

inner sidewall has completely broken away from the surface. And it has

let go. More speed than with Jean-Eric Vergne but it still was

around 150 mph. This is the second one. Felipe Massa, he runs onto the

kerb but it is actually the inner tyre shoulder that lets go and

thankfully for him, plenty of tarmac and look at that damage being done.

As that dealt has gone to the inside, really it is in the lap of

the gods. -- belt. Pirelli, unfortunately, are in the news just

too often for this to be comfortable for them. They have obviously had

plenty of time to back off as everybody gets a feel for those

tyres. Really, that is what it is about rather than trying to heat the

tyres at this point? He can only know from Mark and he has gone

early. They would have expected him to back this up into Club. That just

strings there might be a little bit. Clever move, it would not be

surprising if they had discussed this in the meetings. If we are

leading and we get the safety car, when do we go? That was certainly a

great restart. Prayers and Mark Webber side-by-side, Perez defending

his position. Mark Webber not able to get through. He is back to full

fitness after having that front wing changed. And he goes deep and wide

and he has Jenson Button chasing him. He will be in that slipstream

as Perez struggles to get his car trimmed into this restart and he is

going to fence of. Mark will go around the outside, we have seen him

do this before. That is why he took the lead last year on Fernando

Alonso. TEAM RADIO: watch for high-speed corners with the left

rear tyre. Meaning that was a good job with the restart. It shows you

how much information has gone to the driver, halfwit around and all the

adrenaline of the restart and he is getting those messages from the

engineer. Second place, Nico Rosberg, Adrian Sutil, this will be

interesting to watch. Ferrari have been looking good. It'll be

interesting to watch just who is brave enough to ignore the message.

You will be going faster if you use those kerbs. Too late to overtake

into Stowe Corner. Will he cut back slightly and get early on to the

power? He has only ever scored points on one occasion here. Driving

well on his return to Formula one so far this year. So far, keeping

Fernando Alonso behind. No one seems to be avoiding the kerbs completely.

They are running beyond. Running onto that green concrete. Adrian

Sutil goes into the corner. Fernando Alonso used a bit of the kerb on

entry, that flat-out kink but he still seems to be pushing to try to

catch Force India. This allows those cars are beheaded to make a brake.

Sebastian Vettel and Rosberg separated. On board with Hamilton.

Working his way through! My goodness, that was close with

Gutierrez! That is for 13th place and it almost made content --

contact. That was a very good reaction, he had his moment a

quarter of a second afterwards. Lewis Hamilton with a cheeky pass.

It did not come off this lap but he will find his way back into position

as he goes through Becketts. Expect to see him closing to the left and

right, can he get early enough on to the power? Straight-line speed on

the cyber not too bad. We know he loves overtaking at Silverstone.

Before he got to Formula one, he overtook a huge number of cars and

it was a brilliant drive, back in 2006 and he knows how to overtake at

Silverstone but he has to get on with it because he is dying in 14th

place at the moment. And that is the battle for seventh place, Ricciardo

and Mark Webber. -- down in 14th place. DRS enabled. Just around 50

kilos of fuel so for the drivers, it just gets more nimble, you can

regulate and turn sharper and exonerate more quickly. And the

smile increases on the driver. As these cars get faster through the

grand prix. Sebastian Vettel leads and we are just about halfway

through. Lewis Hamilton was leading from pole position but suffered tyre

failure. We had feelings for Felipe Massa, with his brilliant start, and

he has dropped back. -- failures. Jean-Eric Vergne is currently

struggling with a car that is not handling as well as it should be.

All 22 car that started are currently running. -- car is. Daniel

Ricciardo, under pressure from Mark Webber, you suddenly putting

pressure on Romain Grosjean. Looked on the inside. Did he make a mistake

on that lap because he was much closer when we last saw them but he

seems to have dropped away again and whether finding it difficult,

despite Red Bull having the speed advantage, finding it hard to make

the most of it. Hamilton is behind Paul di Resta. Where has full

convert gone? He has made a second pit stop. Lewis Hamilton is right

behind Paul di Resta. -- Hulkenberg. He takes that wide line

into Wellington and that hymns -- that gets him a very good entry,

strategically. Ricciardo gets past Romain Grosjean, he claims sixth

place. He managed to stay ahead of Mark Webber and he has gone past

Lotus. At lies Perez to stay close to the rear of Mark Webber. -- that

lies Perez. -- allies. The radio the front tyres, are they graining? Yes,

a little bit. That is consistent with the message from earlier. And

has been some debris the track. Some context somewhere around this lap.

But is very worrying. Fernando Alonso attacking for third place and

I wonder if this could mean another safety car because it is almost

impossible to rush out and get that on the approach to Stowe Corner?

There is a gap between Sebastian Vettel and Max Chilton, he is on the

exit of Copse Corner. In the meantime, we must hope that those

drivers are able to avoid that. Can we find out where that debris came

from? It was ahead of Maldonado. That looks like a major failure on

the front wing of Gutierrez. They reckon they can get to the end of

the race on this next stint, all the way. That should be just about

achievable. They will try to do that. Kimi Raikkonen going very

quickly out of there. Very close to that white line on the exit. Pushing

all the time. That was a good stop from Romain Grosjean, very much

among the fastest. Both McLaren cars going through together, it and ninth

place. -- eight. And there is Hamilton, right behind. That bedtime

will cost you about 14 seconds. TEAM RADIO: you're doing very good job,

half a second quicker. I was going to say, it will cost you about 14

seconds of track time. As we heard from those engineers, Rosberg is the

fastest man on the track. And closing the gap down to Sebastian

Vettel, and we shall expect him to react very soon. Fernando Alonso 's

release, that could be unsafe. Jenson Button is going to make his

pit stop, currently running in seventh place. Hamilton closes the

gap but he is into dirty air from Force India, and this is where he

had that go last time but he is not quite close enough. Behind them is

Kimi Raikkonen on a fresh set of tyres. The Force India was very

similar in qualifying. Paul di Resta driving very strategically, trying

to do everything he can to maximise his drive of the corner and break

the DRS. Raikkonen is in front of Alonso, so the early pit stop

followed has worked effectively for that point of view. Alonso has got

DRS... We know that Paul di Resta is going to be coming in at the end of

the lap, I wonder if Hamilton has been told that. And we'll spin from

Hamilton, that allows him to get up the wrong side. Into Copse Corner,

Kimi Raikkonen dives of the inside of Lewis Hamilton. Alonso is going

to follow through as well and Hamilton cannot do anything about

it, he is on tyres that aren't that much older and cannot respond.

put everything into trying to get past Paul di Resta and the tyres

just overheating on the surface, and it has left him vulnerable to those

two cars. Alonso trying to get past Kimi Raikkonen, but he can't do it,

he's forced to the outside. We think Paul di Resta will be coming in,

yes, he heads to the pit lane. Meanwhile, upfront, Sebastien Vettel

has responded and is able to maintain that gap to Rosberg. So it

is nip and tuck. This is where we see whether Adrian Sutil can hang on

to third place or not. I'm not sure he's going to be able to. Paul di

Resta comes in as well. Raikkonen and Alonso have already got out

ahead of Adrian Sutil. So Vettel leads this race, he hasn't yet made

his final stop. This is going to be the moment, I think Sebastien Vettel

had enough in hand coming in that he will come out ahead of Raikkonen.

And that was the usual efficiency from Red Bull. That was a brilliant

stop. Where is Raikkonen? He is only just turning into Vale. Vettel is

clearly in front as he rejoined the race. Despite Grossberg setting the

fastest middle sector of anybody in the race, it wasn't enough. Vettel

had a big enough advantage before that pit stop and now he just has to

look after it. This was Mark Webber on Alonso. Alonso went defensive but

still left a bit of the door open. Jenson Button and Felipe Massa in

the pits. It seems to me that Lewis Hamilton went longer than was

necessary given the relative pacey had. -- pace he had. That is good

stuff and Hamilton just gets around di Resta. Hamilton just about

staying in front of Paul di Resta. This is for 11th place. The two

Brits have been racing card against one another. Damage on the front

wing of Paul di Resta's car but he goes past. He has got DRS, a good

spot. This has been a fantastic battle and Hamilton write down the

inside! He left the door open. Side-by-side as they go through the

corner. Di Resta and Hamilton into Copse Corner. This is great stuff

for the British fans. They are watching their two heroes go at it

so hard. Di Resta is just in front of Lewis Hamilton. I wonder whether

Lewis Hamilton, with DRS enabled, should be able to make the move

towards stone. -- stove. Contrasting tyres. We have got Paul di Resta on

the option, Lewis Hamilton on prime. There should be second difference

new to new Lewis almost rear ends Paul di Resta as they come out.

Struggling on the rear axle, this has to be a prime chance for Lewis

to position his car through turn one, run down to the far corner and

try and get himself into position on Wellington Street. We know he

struggled their earlier, Paul has been driving defensively

fantastically well. Fantastic move from Lewis Hamilton, he just

adjudged the entrance to the corner, took the deep approach and there is

no DRS available to Paul di Resta because he was in front when they

went into that sequence. That was smart stuff. As Paul was going on

the defensive line, Lewis has just gone through a little boost of KERS.

Is this another example of an unsafe release? No, that is fair for

position. Lewis Hamilton is into 10th place, despite the tyre

failures. Felipe Massa has suffered and the one retirement is Jean-Eric

Vergne. At the back of the field, we have Charles Peak running in 16th

place ahead of Esteban Gutierrez -- Charles Pic. We know that Rosberg

has had a message from his engineers knowing the left rear tyre is under

control, you can push now. But Vettel has responded. Yes, look at

the lap comparisons. Rosberg was quick and -- quicker on 3839 but

Vettel responded. -- 38 and 39. This is telling us a story, Mercedes can

race at front running pace and we haven't always seen that. There is a

problem for Vettel! Speak one and Ross Perot takes the lead of the

British Grand Prix! And the crowd, some of them are cheering -- Roz

Berger takes the lead. The TEAM RADIO: I have lost the gearbox.

Wow. Sebastien Vettel coasts into retirement. The first non-finish for

him of the season. Alonso has been in for a third stop. There is a

message for the safety car, the message to move that car. Sebastien

Vettel's first non-finish Saint Italy last year and it has brought

out the safety car. -- since Italy. This will bunch the field and give

people like Lewis Hamilton the chance to move further up in that

top ten. TEAM RADIO: We are going to box this

lap. There is going to be a pit stop for the race leader. I wonder if

they were always planning that whether they are taking advantage of

having a 13.6 second advantage over Raikkonen. It is not risking getting

a puncher in the last stages. Sebastien Vettel, leader of the

world championship and suddenly, that advantage will be reduced.

Raikkonen and Alonso are running second and third in this race. It

doesn't look like they will have an answer for Rosberg but he has got to

come into the pits. We think he has been asked to come in for a

precautionary change onto the hard tyre. He has plenty of time, his

opponents are a little way behind. It doesn't need to be meteoric, it

is a fairly conventional pit stop. Raikkonen is coming up the finish

straight but he is well ahead, and Mark Webber going into the pits as

well. Gary, what drama we are seeing. The world championship lead

out of the race and this one had nothing to do with tyres. No, it was

gearbox failure. On the dash you could see it was going between zero

and one. Watch the gears on the left. All working OK there. And then

suddenly... Can't find a gear. actually going down through the

gears. It could be the drive shaft, it could be something else but he

lost the drive completely. Christian Horner's shake off the foot, head in

the hands. It had all been going so well. The lowest finish Vettel had

had this year up to this point was a fourth-place finish. He has been on

the podium three times, including a win last night Canada. But fortunes

can change in a hurry. Nico Rosberg is going on. Raikkonen with tyres

that are nearly as fresh as Nico Rosberg's. Watch out for Mark

Webber, he is the one who is likely to go on the attack. Not

particularly close behind Ricciardo. Nico Hulkenberg ended up getting

past my Paul di Resta, so he has claimed a place as he tries to get

into the points. Having a snifter on the inside as you go into the far

corner. He has got to watch out for behind, because Hamilton is there.

We have got some of the world champions altogether in the field

fighting at the lower reaches of the top ten. Mark Webber down the

inside. Alonso looks up and in the background, Hamilton will like to

see that is hope he gets an opportunity. -- and hope. Here we

are on the run down, to the start finish line, and he is passed before

of the slipstream. Anyway, he gets away with it, great pass. No DRS

available at this stage. Mark Webber trying to workup to... No contact, a

tyre has gone! It looked in the distance, sorry, that the Ferrari

had had to duck out from behind. Will this be another safety car?

could be. Felipe Massa trying to get past Jenson Button. But doesn't want

to give it up. Felipe Massa cuts back on the exit. Perez is no

clearly out of it with what looked like a tyre problem. Whether they

will have to bring the safety car out or not, we will have to wait and

see. Another attempt from Felipe Massa on Jenson Button but it is not

quite there. This is the next opportunity, coming on to

Wellington. He's going to be through. This is the second time

this has happened to Perez. Weather is through. Mark Webber is into

third place. He has got Raikkonen and Roz Berger overhead. Raikkonen

is definitely under threat. Paul di Resta is trying to move up. It looks

like the McLaren is being pushed away, no more this afternoon.

is it for Sergio Perez, a great shame, but there are still some

wonderful riding going on. Di Resta is in front, I think, all but --

Alonso now trying Ricciardo. He's going to try the outside into the

Vale. Alonso has more grip and he just drives past. And look at

Hamilton, he's going to take advantage at the same time. And poor

Daniel Ricciardo loses two places in one go understanding seven. Even

though he has lost a couple of places, he showed great maturity.

Not making it easy but giving enough space. This is going to be coming

out onto the Wellington Street. Webber has won this race on two

previous occasions. He did this to Alonso last year. He goes to the

outside, his favourite spot, but Kimi Raikkonen takes too much speed.

Nico Rosberg is only a second or so up the road leading this race. Can

Mark Webber get down and hunt down the victory? He only just flicked

out of that in time. Raikkonen is still fighting, they are

side-by-side through Copse corner, but Mark Webber has done it. I am

not sure that Raikkonen is going to come back and boy, that was brave.

And it was brilliant, because he left enough space for Raikkonen and

a lesser man would have driven Raikkonen wide but they were able to

exit that corner side-by-side. Berger is the last one on his list.

Alonso... And it is Hamilton almost as well, couldn't quite squeeze the

Mercedes through. I wonder if he can do it on the exit of Club corner.

Rosberg leads by 1.3 seconds from Mark Webber, who was nowhere on the

first lap but is suddenly challenging for victory. And he was

three tenths faster. Webber was actually quicker on that last lap as

well, including that pass. Well, it might be a long shot but he has got

Rosberg going through the front of the screen, there. He has responded

with the fastest first sector. Rosberg is pushing harder. Fernando

Alonso making his move. Look at how close that was. I thought that was

the result of contact. Hamilton had tyre failure and he has fought his

way back to fifth days and he is not far behind Brando Alonso and Amy

Raikkonen, could you still get a podium finish? -- Fernando Alonso

and Kimi Raikkonen. They are coming out through Becketts, as we look at

that map. Keep an eye on Fernando Alonso, because he will get DRS. The

Ferrari sweeps into third place, Fernando Alonso is heading for

another podium finish on a day when Sebastian Vettel is not going to

score any points at all. Kimi Raikkonen had better watch out

because he might fall further down the pack. You can see Hamilton being

quicker over the last few laps. Adrian Sutil is just holding on. Up

front, Mark Webber is quicker than Rosberg on that last lap. 1.3

seconds, the gap. Hamilton has had two stops as well and he does not

have pressure tyres. But he is looking vulnerable. Yes, Kimi

Raikkonen made that earlier stop. Hamilton has got fresh tyres, it

does mean that Kimi Raikkonen could be in trouble. Webber is taking

another two tenths out of Rosberg in the first sector. He is, of course,

running out of time. Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen, really looking

to close that points gap to the Championship leader. Hamilton chases

after Kimi Raikkonen. Can he get a spot? Fourth position, which would

be remarkable for him. Mark Webber is getting closer to the leader and

there goes Hamilton! He takes fourth place and coming from an exploded

fire, this is a tremendous tyre -- drive from Lewis Hamilton. He is now

in fourth is Asian and we go on to the final lap. There is Mark Webber,

he is almost within DRS range but it looks like Rosberg is just doing

enough, here. Great final sector by Lewis Hamilton, the fastest of

anybody. He still sees the opportunity. You can see Felipe

Massa passing Adrian Sutil. I am curious to know what is happening

out front. Webber is behind Rosberg. Mark Webber, the double winner of

the British Grand Prix and he is faster than Rosberg in that sector.

He can get into the DRS zone. they go through Becketts. And well

placed to have a go at getting past Rosberg. What would it mean to him

to do that? He dropped so far down on the first lap, they had to change

his front wing. And yet, Mark Webber is now fighting for the lead. A

remarkable effort indeed from the Australian and his last chance is

coming up. Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso is holding on to third place

with Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen. Romain Grosjean, another retirement

to add to the list. On board with Hamilton. It does not look as if he

will be able to find a way through. The chequered flag awaits. And Nico

Rosberg has just got to hold on for the final turn. And Nico Rosberg has

done it! Rosberg wins the British Grand Prix! From Mark Webber, who

has fought his way through to a valiant finish, third goes to

Fernando Alonso, then Lewis Hamilton. Coming from the back of

the field after his tyre went. Mark Webber set the fastest lap on that

last lap and if you mourn apps and perhaps he would have won this? If

only, and that is the story of his career. But that was a great

comeback for Mark Webber after that incident at the start. Hamilton did

not get the win but that is still a very good result, all things

considered. TEAM RADIO: great job! Excellent job, well done, made! --

mate. So, the champagne, and he has already enjoyed that. But to do this

at Silverstone and there is a big event coming up for him and the team

in one week because they will be racing in Germany, his home event.

The home for Mercedes. And with the performance were singing from Lewis

Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, you have to bet that they will be in the

mix, just as they have been at Silverstone. -- we are seeing. Nico

Rosberg takes the full 25 today, Mark Webber close second on 18, then

Fernando Alonso also completing the podium. In terms of the drivers

championship... It looks very much like this. Sebastian Vettel still

leading the way. Red Bull leading the way in the Constructors'

Championship. Looking for their fourth victory. Mercedes, jumping

ahead of Ferrari. Let us hear from it was a pity for those British

rounds with Lewis Hamilton going out from the lead and then Sebastian

stopping and then the road was clear for me but it was still very nerve

wracking because those tyres were on the edge and they could brake at any

moment and I had a tyre problem as well and I was lucky with that

safety car so I managed to come in and change my tyres and that worked

out great. Fantastic to win. Especially because the team is so

close, lots of IT members were here, and it is great to give them the

win. I think I shall go back and have a red wine and chill out and

reflect on a challenging weekend. You know, people can underestimate

putting together the whole weekend and finishing towards the sharp end,

you should never take that for granted and we have done that today

so I will be... Yes, I will smile tonight. Mercedes have been pushing

like hill. They are not hanging around. -- hill. It has been

fantastic for us in terms of the Championship and it is very

difficult to get 13 points, better than Sebastian any beginner the

Championship but even more with a difficult weekend like here at

Silverstone. Definitely, good points. -- any weekend. We cannot

forget that we have not been good enough and the next race is in five

days and we need to raise our game because this is not enough. Tell us

about the disappointment with the safety concerns? Safety is the

biggest issue, it is just unacceptable. We had those tyre

tests to develop and improve the tyres and stop this from happening

and after that, they did not do anything. To have four of them blow

up, and that could have been at high speed and I was thinking, it is only

when somebody gets hurt that somebody will do something about it.

Obviously, I am disappointed and it is down to those tyres. Up and

down, it was not the cleanest race and trying to get past Nico Rosberg,

I lost my front wing. And the safety car came out and we decided to

change, and was the right thing but we lost three positions and that was

down to Felipe Massa. Another two laps and we would have had the likes

of Ricciardo and Adrian Sutil but given this weekend, up and down, we

continue the points run and were satisfied. And hopefully we can get

three days with a smile on our face! We went for the prime because we

didn't think anybody in front was. That was the one that was graining

for me so big bottoms. We just try to wait for one lap when we could

put on the other tyres and it was much stronger. Much happier and no

graining. So, work that one out! Great. Then when the safety car came

out at the end, we had old tyres and I was a sitting duck. I could not

get any temperature. It was tough, waiting for people to pass me. I had

that your box issue, my fifth year was broke and I damaged the rest of

the gearbox. In was possible to carry on. -- fifth gear. And it was

a shame because we were in a very good position and it was a nice race

to win. We shall have to try again. Scintillating and shocking. What is

going on with these tyre failures? Pirelli have a real issue, and when

it goes, we can see the drivers have been fortunate but having areas

where they can control it. The teams in the drivers are very concerned

and Pirelli are getting negative for the city and they are more than

capable of designing strong, robust tyres. But they are almost a victim

of their own success in giving us exciting racing by having multiple

stops. There will be a lot of head scratching and refuelling into the

second half of this season. We did see some intelligent drives, Beagle

Rosberg taking the plaudits of Lewis Hamilton going to the back and

finishing well? He was controlling the race fantastically and was no

reason to doubt that. Nico Rosberg was there to pick up a place when

Sebastian Vettel had his gearbox problems and we had that topsy-turvy

thing with those safety car is in the end, all the drivers were safe,

it was exciting and a great result. Mark Webber, on his last British

Grand Prix? We thought he was destined to be out of the points but

he had a very storming drive, less than one second behind at the flag

and that great comeback from Lewis Hamilton, Paul di Resta was very
