Nurburgring for the German Grand Prix. It's a particularly special

weekend for Williams because it's their # 00th Grand Prix.

The whole team actually got the best out of everybody. We all just worked

so well together. Look at the joy, unbonded joy in the Williams area.

We went motor racing first and foremost to get results, but we had

a bit of fun doing it. Nigel Mansell wins in terrific style. I want to

see Williams win again. Nigel Mansell is world champion. OK, I've

got a soft spot and it's great to see Frank still fighting on and

working incredibly hard. It's the best time in my life. I no it's many

years late e, but thanks to everybody who made it happen for me.

In Formula One you want to be world champion and you want to drive for

Williams. There's no question that the FW A-Team which I won the

championship with in '9 # is the perfect car for me. It was

competitive and it fitted me am. I have been struggling so much

at the weekend and then I kept my fingers crossed hoping it would

work. All they a sudden I was up there with Nico Rosberg. And then to

get the result I got, I am so happy.

So Hamilton takes his 29th career pole position but has the red Bulls

behind him. A great lap from Daniel Riccardo sees him start six. The

Ferraris have a different strategy. Jenson Button can choose what tyres

he starts on. The same for Nico Hulkenberg. Nico Rosberg is 11th in

Paul Di Resta 12. The Williams are 17th and 18th and then come the

interesting decision there. Do you think the decision with the tyres

will payoff? Looking at the tyres, the soft tyre was deteriorating by

the seventh lap and the gradients at the front gets slower and slower. 25

lap runs on the other tyres so during the first pit stops they are

hoping to leapfrog everybody and then you are looking at other

members. Two stops, that is let's go to you were gassed qualifying

sessions I the race is it is I hope maybe after five or six laps, the

guys on the soft tyres are going to be suffering a qualifying, sixth

place do you think you have got a I, I I let's just see I to make life

Ricciardo and Alonso. Perez followed by Jenson Button. He's chased by

Hulkenberg and then Nico Rosberg. The two Nicos. Then you have Paul di

Resta just ahead of Adrian Sutil. Sutil gained on the first lap. Di

Resta lost. There was a gap between them on the grid. They've ended up

virtually together as they come virtually together as they come

virtually together as they come across the line. As the rest of them

come across the line. Maldonado and Gutierrez behind them. It did not

look initially like a bad start from Lewis Hamilton. But when they

started releasing KERS, he just got started releasing KERS, he just got

swamped by the Red Bull cars. Then they had a bit of room to play

with. Other than that it is a clean start. Just to have a listen, just

at the last part of the getaway you could hear that kind of juddering.

That is where Lewis Hamilton struggled. That is a side shot from

Mark Webber. Then it all gets tight. Mark actually marginally ahead as

they go into the apex. So they did benefit from that different

procedure. We heard them confirming that three pack is runs had been

done on the way to the grid. Well Mark Webber dropped down to 15th on

the opening lap at Silverstone. But a much better start. He went faster

than Sebastian Vettel on that lap. think there was contact there.

Felipe Massa went into a spin. stalled. They may need to get the

safety car. If they do you will see all the soft runners just heading

straight for the pit. Ross medley looks upset about that. And that

ends a record for Felipe Massa. He has become the first non-finisher in

the German Grand Prix of this year. And his record here has come to a

conclusion. Better qualifying last time out. Let's just take a look at

what happened. I do not think there was contact. He had that unusual

spin to the left. At this stage you want to see if the lap times from

the leader is starts to drop away. We are expecting the soft tyres to

start giving up. An early pit stop for Paul di Resta. He almost clipped

that Toro Rosso. Still no sign of Sebastian Vettel coming into the

pits. Getting if you are more laps out of these tyres. Incomes Lewis

Hamilton. He is one of the leaders to come in. Getting off those soft

tyres. And he would prefer just one more stop in this race. The teams

who have stayed out, they will be looking at those first sector times.

They will be able to see how much faster they go on a new set of those

prime tyres. There is a difference of a second and a half between those

tyres. He has come out in 10th place. Just ahead of Pastor

Maldonado. It is crucial for Lewis Hamilton that he does not get held

up. Nico Rosberg currently in ninth place. On board Lewis Hamilton.

big push now, Lewis. This could work to his advantage. He has gone wide.

Too much of a push. But he does have some clear air in front of him at

the moment. Hulkenberg in ninth place. That was a message from his

engineer. This will be close for Rosberg. The last time around he was

at 16.4. That was an impressive pit stop. Beautiful by Red Bull. I do

not think that Hamilton will have done enough. Sebastian Vettel coming

out in front of Rosberg. I do not think Hamilton has done nearly

enough. Sebastian Vettel rejoins the field. But he has gone out ahead of

Hamilton. Rosberg could still be a threat in this race. The Mercedes

cars will be running very close to one another. Hamilton on fresh

tyres. That was absolutely a perfect example of teamwork. It was always

going to be tight whether it you could get Sebastian out in front of

Rosberg and that is what they have done. Mark Webber goes into the pit.

Will he be able to come out ahead of Sebastian Vettel? I think he will.

Sebastian Vettel has got some traffic ahead. It is a slow stop.

Surely his chance has gone now. Mark Webber, that is horrible to see.

That wheel coming off, that is just a shocker for Mark Webber. Not what

you want to see at all. So rarely it happens when you consider the speed

of those pit stops. The race could be over for Mark Webber. Any chance

of doing well in this race has all gone for him. Sebastian Vettel in

the traffic there. So now Romain Grosjean is the race leader. He has

passed Kimi Raikkonen. He is ahead of Alonso who has stayed out. He is

going to stay out on the median compound tyres for that much

longer. My immediate thoughts are finding out whether that cameraman

who was hit by that dancing will is being attended to. Hopefully nothing

too serious. Romain Grosjean just did a brilliant lap. He is on those

softer tyres. Notice looking after both tyres very well. He has got a

chance of being in front of some of the other guys who started on the

soft tyres. Sebastian Vettel was held off in the Chinese Grand Prix

by Hulkenberg and that cost him a shot at podium. The two Mercedes

cars now right together. Hamilton on the fresher tyres. Both team-mates

want to make their own race work. Raikkonen trying to go on the

outside, does not quite manage it. Kimi Raikkonen was behind Hamilton

before the pit stops. Hamilton being held up by Rosberg. That allowed

Raikkonen the chance to jump. The team have got to release Hamilton.

Mark Webber rejoins the race. wonder if he was going to be able to

rejoin. No will damage done to the car. -- no real damage. Grosjean

leading this race. But now up to third place. He is ahead of

Hulkenberg. Sebastian Vettel actually force. Rosberg and Hamilton

then. Maldonado in ninth place. But we have not -- -- we have now got

tyres on different strategies. Grosjean still read this race.

the DRS zone. Sebastian Vettel getting past Button. That brings him

up into third position. Forging his way through the traffic. He cannot

afford to get held up by the traffic. Grosjean still out there on

the soft tyres. Fernando Alonso in second. On-board with Kimi

Raikkonen. Hamilton could do with getting past. Hamilton has been on

the radio and said Nico is not in the same race. Nico you are on a

different strategy to Lewis, don't hold him up. Now is he actually

going to let him through here or not? That's the question, David.

That's a very clear message from the team. They would expect him to do

so. Although when you look at that gap, you'd say he's not close

enough. What happens is you run in the dirty air of the car in front,

they've used all the efficient energy when they pass through there,

they chuck a bunch of dirty stuff at you and the car just doesn't

perform. Although he's on fresher tyres, and on a different strategy,

can you see he's having to lift up through the chicane, that allows

Raikkonen to close onto the back of Hamilton. We picked up a message

that Hamilton's rear tyres were close to the edge and peak

temperature. He's maybe in a situation of losing the rear.

target lap. Plan A for Jenson Button. You would expect them to be

looking at a two-stop race. Grosjean is doing another lap before he comes

in the pits. This is an incredibly impressive first stint from the

Lotus of Romain Grosjean. Nobody thought the soft tyre would still

deliver this type of lap time. In comes Alonso. That's early. That's

earlier than we were expecting. He started on the medium compound tyre.

He's done only 13 laps. Hamilton had a go at Rosberg there. That again

gives Raikkonen the chance to close up. Rosberg has not allowed him

through and Alonso is out again. Garry, are you surprised to see

Alonso in that early? Very surprised. Can I only think he may

have had a pinkure or something. Lap 12, there's no way you can make

anything work from there. He's into a three-stop strategy now. For

Romain Grosjean, fantastic. To get to lap 13 on those tyres doing the

laps he did, now he's in front of Hulkenberg. That's exactly where he

wanted to be. Grosjean is one to watch in this race. It's a brilliant

first stint from him. About time he needs to deliver a good result for

the sake of his career. Raikkonen, though, still held up behind

Rosberg. Hamilton is now able to get away a bit. Hamilton able to get

away because he doesn't have to keep an eye on Raikkonen behind him.

That's now Rosberg's job. Lewis can push, push a bit and try to shut

that gap down on Hulkenberg. Raikkonen will be close enough to

look at Rosberg into the chicane. will have a go. He's on the outside

but he's going for it! That was a lovely move from Kimi Raikkonen. He

just makes the corner, really went deep into the braking area. Now he

has to defend as he comes up towards the final turn. Kimi Raikkonen makes

the move stick. Let's bring you up to date with the, certainly the

front runners having made a pitstop, but of course those who started on

the medium tyre, Jenson Button, Nico Hulkenberg have not yet made a

have -- maden early stop, seems to have lost out because of that.

box, box. Now that's interesting. Because that would imply a

three-stop as well for Nico Rosberg. They're bringing him in on lap 16,

so perhaps we are seeing this track with its higher temperatures moving

us more towards a three-stop race than the expected two-stop race.

Nico Rosberg will be coming in, unless it's more to deal with

traffic. We'll have to keep an eye on that. What we were expecting to

see was those guys starting on the medium tyre to take up the lead at

the head of this race in the early phase. It hasn't happened. The guys

who started on the soft tyres have been able to use the performance,

best displayed there by how far Grosjean went. It goes to show that

what they learn on a Friday is only an indication, it's not an exact

guide. Hamilton is sizing up Hulkenberg here with Raikkonen right

behind him. These two do need to get past Hulkenberg as quickly as

possible, from their point of view. From Hulkenberg's point of view he

will do his utmost to stay in front. Sauber have had a tough time of it

this year. They haven't even been able to keep all their payments to

Hulkenberg going. He is behind on his payments. They are desperate not

only for money, but for a decent result. He got into the top ten at

the last Grand Prix, a valuable point it was. We don't know how this

weekend will work out but he will want to keep these guys behind him.

Hamilton will do his utmost to go through here. It's a cracking part

of the circuit up there you -- through the high speed chicane. You

get downforce pushing it into the ground and just enabling you to go

so much faster through the turns. But it's not enough to really close

out. This is one of the DRS zones. Hamilton's not close enough there.

Then they come through the chicane up to the final turn, then there's a

second DRS zone and he's in! Hulkenberg is in. That clears the

way. It's earlier than might have been expected for somebody started

on the medium compound tyre. We are looking at this being a three-stop

race now. Hamilton is released. Raikkonen goes with him. They will

now chase after Jenson Button, who is the only one of the front runners

not to have stopped. I wonder if Button can go all the way to lap 24,

25 and make this a two-stop race? All good in the pits this time for

Nico Hulkenberg. Back with the Hamilton-Raikkonen battle. A bit of

a slow stop for Hulkenberg. I thought it was better than that.

Raikkonen is able to close right up to the back of the Mercedes. Rosberg

in the meanwhile has made his pitstop. Hamilton is running last

lap 38. 6. That's 37. 0 for Grosjean. That tells you the divens

in performance between the -- difference in performance between

the Lotus at this stage of the race. Is he going to find a way past

holding together very well. Dear. It looks as though Mercedes, who've had

this problem before, during the race of the tyre performance going away.

Look at Raikkonen, he is catching in the DRS zone. Can he get it turned

into the chicane. He turns it in. He is past Lewis Hamilton into fourth

place. Kimi Raikkonen is moving up through the field here. Next one is

Jenson Button that he tries to pass. Alonso now is right in there behind

Lewis Hamilton as well. He made a stop a little while ago, Fernando

Alonso, he's on relatively fresh tyres. I don't think it will be too

long before he goes past the Mercedes. These guys are on

different tyres to me. I don't think so Lewis. I think per Ellie have

provided -- Pirelli have provided the same tyres. It's how the car

moves it. Battle on the brakes there but Hamilton is late on the brakes

and Alonso cannot repeat what Raikkonen did. Hamilton fends him

off for just a little bit longer. Just over one third distance

completed here at Nurburgring. Sebastien Vettel leads the race.

Romain Grosjean is second after a brilliant first stint. Button is

holding job to the tyres he started the race with. Here comes Alonso. He

moves to the outside. Hamilton protects the inside line. Can he cut

back on the exit? This is classic racing here. He's on the outside now

into turn two, but Hamilton holds the inside line, tries not to run

too wide. You're watching two world champions going wheel to wheel,

fighting for fifth position. Great stuff. Is Nico having the same

problem? A-firm Lewis. Nico is suffering the same issues. I doubt

if he said that just then. He probably said that a few moments

ago. Rosberg down in 14th position now. This is costing Alonso dearly

in his attempts to make sure he gets a decent podium finish out of this

race today. A quick reminder that Mark Webber had that incidents in

the pits earlier on. He is still in the race. He's down in last

position. The only retirement so far is Felipe Massa, who spun very early

on the the -- at the first corner. We do hear the good news that the

cameraman is basically OK. We will update you further with that as we

hear more information. That is good to hear. A relief after seeing

someone hit by a wheel. He is being treated now, but he is basically OK.

That's good news. The fight between Hamilton and Alonso no change, as

they went through the chicane. Back to the second DRS area. Button in.

Button has got to lap 22, still not quite far enough to really make a

straightforward two-stop race. Here comes Alonso again. My goodness,

late to the outside, Hamilton covers the inside. Now has he got the

traction off the corner? Hamilton just again fends him off. There's

nowhere really for Alonso to go except around the outside. Surely

he's not going to go all the way there. That was brilliant. Lewis

gave him space. He could have run him off the road. He had respect for

Fernando. He gave him the room. going to the outside. There's not

the space there, though. It started at turn one, it's still going as we

go through turn six. Alonso can't find his way through. Vettel leads

from Grosjean. Raikkonen to third with Jenson Button having made his

pitstop. But Button will still be up there amongst the top group. He

comes out in sixth place. pushing man, I'm pushing. I think we

can see that Lewis Hamilton is pushing. He is getting every last

tiny little bit of grip out of that car he can. We know he's struggling.

But he is still fending Alonso off. In seventh place, behind these two,

Maldonado. Perez is eighth, Hulkenberg ninth and Sutil is in

tenth position. Back up to the chicane again. He's not close

enough. You have to wonder how long he can go. Not long, he's in.

Hamilton for his second stop. Hamilton gets out of the way for

now. Look at, that Hamilton almost sliding into the kerb on the

outside, slows the car down and brings it into the pit lane. It's a

relatively short stint for Hamilton on the 15 laps, that's really all

we'res seeing out of the harder tyres -- all we're seeing out of the

harder tyres, less than we expected. Where will he be in comparison to

Jenson Button? Button has gone down, I think turn one. Yeah, he's in

behind Sutil there in the Force India. He's out just in front of

him. That brings him out in eighth. Button out in front of Perez.

seventh. There is Hulkenberg in eighth. Then Hamilton has come back

out. We're on Plan B Kimi. Plan B. Meanwhile into the pits Valtteri

Bottas in the Williams. Gutierrez has just come back out. So has

Jean-Eric Vergne, as well. That's their second pitstop. So Bottas,

although it's his first pitstop, interestingly. He started on the

medium compound tyre. Lots of smoke out of the back of the moo Russia --

Marussia for Jules Bianchi. fire. It looks like an oil fire.A

major blow up. When you see the white smoke. That's usually an

indication of oil and water being mixed together. The only way to get

them mixed together in an engine is if you've put a piston through the

side of the block. That's what a major engine blow up looks like. You

get all the juices mixing together added to the fact that you've got

extremely hot engine and, well, a bit of unburnt fuel there igniting.

The car unfortunately is rolling without a driver backwards on the

circuit. I've never seen that before. The tractor trying to get

over to it to pick tup. It has rolled thankfully to the grass now.

There is the race leader Vettel. He's slowed down. Absolutely.Goes

through then Raikkonen. It takes out one of the... It's rolled to where

they can push it behind the barrier. That's a clever car. My goodness,

what a day of incident we're seeing both in the pits and on circuit. The

safety car is out though. That opens up the opportunity to come into the

pits now. All the crews are ready. Vettel in now. So Sebastien Vettel

into the pits. This is his second pitstop. Grosjean reacts as well.

They're on the same strategy from this point in. It's a straight fight

between Vettel and Grosjean with Raikkonen as well. Raikkonen having

to stack behind Grosjean, though he was a bit behind any way. This is

good for Raikkonen, if he can get back out and line up close to his

team-mate. Alonso's also in the pits, as we speak. Waiting for the

Ferrari to head down pit lane. Raikkonen back out once more then.

So Raikkonen re-emerges in third place. It's Red Bull lead ago head

of the two Lotus and then the Ferrari of Alonso, as he exits the

pit lane. That was quite a late call on the safety car and by the time

they'd made that call, if you just watched the trajectory of the car,

then the car will be moved no a safe position by now already, I would

have thought. This is Rosberg heading in behind the Force India.

Force India going slowly at that part of the pit lane. Ah, that Force

India probably had his team-mate in pitting. He's trying to slow Rosberg

down to give him the best chance to down to give him the best chance to

get a clean run into the box. Yeah, looks like his team-mate had pulled

out, then it's a battle of the pit out, then it's a battle of the pit

crews. That was clever stuff from Force India to slow down Rosberg.

The safety car has been out but is now coming in on this lap. Sebastian

Vettel leads the field. Hamilton now seven. Gary, half of this race is

still to go. They looked as if they were not getting the stint out of

the tyres to get to the end, but do you think that any of these guys

could on these sets of tyres? let's pick of these cars quickly.

Vettel picks it up out of the chicane straight away. Grosjean

dropping back a little bit. The leader gets the chance to dictate

the pace. Perez dolls have a little think about passing Maldonado. --

dolls have. Grosjean locked up at the chicane. Sebastian Vettel just

caught him out a bit there. Raikkonen in a position to put some

pressure on Grosjean. Bunching this field up together, of course some of

these drivers still have to use the soft tyres at some point, my Jensen

Button. I think they have to use it. That could play into his hands. He

has got to do that. And he will have a very fresh set of tyres in his

last couple of laps. Anything can happen. Mark Webber gained a couple

of places on that restart. After you, please. And Mark Webber said,

thank you very much. That safety car has helped him hugely. Alonso not

really do anything to catch up, but not dropping away either. Jensen

Button is dropping away slightly. You might expect Hamilton to begin

making progress but his tyres are that little bit older than some

behind him. Rosberg has been told that his front temperatures are

high. So when he gets to the end of the strait he will lift off the

throttle and wait one second before he hit the brake pedal. That way you

just take out some of the heat from the tyres. So Mercedes already

compromised and now having to drive that little bit slower as well.

it really is a little bit like Spain. And it seems as if the

qualifying pace that Mercedes had has not been converted. But look how

close the battle for the lead is now. Grosjean definitely within DRS

range of the race. He has lacked very quickly this time. Raikkonen is

the fastest of the three this time as they crossed the line. Everyone

going quicker as the fuel burns off. Under pressure, no question about

it. You're in a vulnerable position. Maldonado is not aim to give up.

Perez goes a little bit wide. I think the McLaren is through. Adrian

Sutil kicking up the dust in the background. All the drivers trying

to avoid that dust. You do not want to get back onto your tyres. Perez

never afraid of going wheel to wheel. Stays wide, cuts back to the

inside. He just lets it roll around the outside. Sebastian Vettel being

encouraged their over the radio. He can try to pull away. These three

cars still looking to be the likely once. Grosjean is in. 20 laps to go

in this race. Hitting any lift to your advantage. To comment earlier

than the other guy does help. away. And Red Bull have got to

respond to this unless they are planning to go all the way to the

end. Let us see where he comes out in traffic. He comes out in six.

That was well timed. Alonso going well at the moment as well. A

personal best lap on that last lap. Raikkonen has just gone five times

quicker in that first sector than Sebastian Vettel. Responding of

course to his team-mate coming in. Not a good first sector for

Sebastian Vettel. Mark Webber made a pit stop a moment or two ago. He has

gone onto the medium tyres. Grosjean is pushing hard. A crucial lap here

for Grosjean. Raikkonen fast also in the middle sector. Keep an eye out

for Raikkonen who might be heading in on this lap. That was one of the

best pit stops I have seen this afternoon. Red Bull coming out into

the pit lane. Survived in Vettel is in. And Raikkonen interestingly has

stayed out. It looks to be another brilliant stop. From Red Bull.

Grosjean has not finished on the lead lap since Bahrain. He is out in

front of Grosjean. Red Bull had to respond. They did so and have got

him back out in front of Grosjean. Of course Sebastian Vettel loves to

be in this position, in control. Trying to score his 30th when this

weekend and his first ever home win. But Raikkonen perhaps still want to

watch. Sebastian Vettel does seem to have it just about under control.

all depends on the lap time that Grosjean has been able to unleash.

Sebastian Vettel has been told... Let us just listen. They are worried

about Raikkonen. This could be the crucial moment of the race. Grosjean

chases. But Raikkonen also doing his utmost. We expect to see the Lotus

into the pits this time around. No, Raikkonen stays out. Raikkonen has

stayed out. Does that mean he is trying to go to the end? I think so.

That is what I would be trying to do. Lotus pulled Grosjean into the

pits. Probably Red Bull are going to have to stop again. It is up to

whether Raikkonen can keep up the pace and get to the flag. Tom, you

are at the Lotus pit. Yes, looking pretty calm at the minute. I get

about eight seconds of notice. That is how quickly it happens. Lewis

Hamilton has just been told by the team, do not waste time holding

these guys up. We need you to stay to strategy. Hamilton just test to

run his own race. He will be sitting thinking, if I can keep Sebastian

Vettel behind me, stop him running away with the championship. You do

not want him running away too easily. Sebastian Vettel passes

Hamilton. Side by side with the Mercedes but there is no way

through. Just inches separate them coming out of the corner. Sebastian

Vettel left the door wide open. He is certainly far enough ahead to

start turning in. He just gave enough space to Lewis Hamilton.

Sebastian Vettel getting through, Grosjean has got to do likewise.

Still some pit stops to be expected from those who have not used the

soft tyres. Alonso, but, they have got to make another pit stop.

have to do that to comply with the regulations. I am sure Raikkonen can

take it to the end if anybody can. That would be a brilliant strategic

call if he is able to manage it on those tyres. He is still doing some

good lap times. Raikkonen fast in that middle sector. Heading up

towards the chicane. He has completed that move. Just so much

more grip available on the brakes. Hamilton is coming in. Time to

change those tyres now. They have done some 22 laps. Hopefully he

should still be in the top ten. race pace has just slipped away.

Hulkenberg moving now into 10th position. Jensen Button now into the

pits. They are going to go for a 12 lap stint on the soft tyres. So when

Jensen Button comes back out this is an opportunity for him to still

score some useful points. He is going to come out just ahead of his

team-mate. He is in the pit lane at the moment. Sebastian Vettel

continues now in third place. Fernando Alonso has to make a pit

stop. He will have a time last of around 18 seconds. Jensen Button has

come back out. And Raikkonen has come in. He is not going to make it

to the end. So this is a race between Sebastian Vettel and Romain

Grosjean, surely. He has gone on the soft tyres. This is really

interesting. This is not what we expect it. Raikkonen comes back out

in third. Alonso in force but goes way too deep. Interesting that

Raikkonen felt he was not going to be able to make the last ten laps on

those tyres. Hamilton down the inside of Paul di Resta. He just

squeezes past. Maldonado will stay in front of them. Alonso had to use

those soft tyres. The interesting one is Raikkonen who has used them

already. Jensen Button, fastest man on the track. I think that will be

short lived by the time Raikkonen gets himself up to speed. So now we

have Sebastian Vettel leading this race. Grosjean just behind him. Then

Raikkonen just 2.6 seconds behind his team-mate. He is on the soft

tyres. He is not far behind. There is a real chance for Kimi Raikkonen

now. These were faster per lap than the medium compound tyre. Hamilton

makes another move. Getting Maldonado this time. He's done it.

Maldonado just couldn't fight back. We are expecting Maldonado in. There

we are. Straight into the pit lane now. You have to imagine that Lotus

will be asking Grosjean to get out of the way, as we have Perez on

Button. Now Button on Perez. Yeah, and he's got the superior grip. He

just drives past him. They're not fighting for the win,

but interteam battle is always nice. Grosjean, when Raikkonen gets onto

the back of him, which he will given he's on a different tyre. A quick

note that Raikkonen's on a used set of soft tyres, as opposed to Alonso

who had a new set to use. Let's not forget Alonso in all of this.

They're not able to make their tyres last as long. Raikkonen doesn't have

the peak of performance. But the fact they've been through a heat

cycle will mean that they've slight liqueured the rubber. Reich --

slightly Cured the rubber. He will take six tenths at least out of

Grosjean on this lap. Not seeing the real jump in performance on the soft

tyre with Raikkonen. We are with the used soft tyre is not that much

quicker than the medium tyre of his team-mate just ahead. That surprises

me. Maybe that's just the way the track has changed through the course

of this race. Vettel leads. Grosjean, there's Raikkonen in third

place. It's Alonso behind them who has just set fastest lap. He's 3. 7

seconds behind. We just see Maldonado. Let's watch his pitstop.

Was this trouble-free? No, it wasn't. That's the same corner they

had the problem with last time as well. Oh, no. This opportunity for

Williams to perhaps score points in their 600th Grand Prix has just

evaporated in front of our eyes. I can't see them coming back from

that. Re Replay with Nico Hulkenberg. Did he have an

opportunity to overtake? Yes, he D His team-mate, Gutierrez. He's not

up in the points yet, after this stop onto the soft tyre. This is on

board Nico Rosberg, also on the soft tyre now, remember. That was him

getting past Adrian Sutil into 12th place. Kimi is within DRS range.

From Lotus's team point of view, with Kimi third in the championship,

let's hear. Behind is on the option tyre, do not hold him up. He's up

the inside into the chicane. Kimi Raikkonen goes past his team-mate.

Has he got anything to throw at Sebastien Vettel or is that simply

trying to get the best they can in terms of points? It's still a

brilliant day for Lotus. It's a double podium finish. Alonso is

still narrowing the gap, down to 1. 4 seconds now. That is Romain

Grosjean's ennear -- engineer there. He's going to be warning Grosjean

that Alonso is getting closer. a good recovery from Alonso. Looked

to be getting into the race with a quiet start to the afternoon, taking

that brave decision. He had a set of new soft tyres available, having

decided to start on the different tyre in the last part of qualifying.

It's working well for Ferrari this afternoon. Lewis Hamilton on Sergio

Perez here. We heard that Webber could be on target to get past

Perez. Hamilton going that much faster. He's done it earlier than

that. Hamilton will score points here today. Is he going to catch

Button, that's the next question? Button is on for matching his best

result of the season here today. He's currently in fifth position.

Account Mclaren hang on in there for the -- can the Mclaren hang on in

there for the last part of this race? There's Alonso getting close

to the back. Raikkonen is still catching Vettel slightly. But he is

running out of laps. I wonder if he can do anything. Fernando Alonso, so

many podium finishes. Looking at Ferrari's strategy, it doesn't seem

to have worked out for them. This was Ricciardo. The battle for 11th.

The Sauber went through. Rosberg is in the final

point-scoring position at the moment in tenth. Di Resta in the points

again. He's in ninth position. On that last lap Raikkonen definitely

quicker. Took half a second out of the lead of Vettel, down to 2. 1

seconds. I think he's going to run out of laps though. Kimi Raikkonen,

there's Grosjean, Fernando Alonso right behind him, who wants that

podium finish. Still trying to keep the pressure on Vettel in the

championship. Alonso is currently second. Raikkonen has taken another

three tenths out of Vettel in that sector. Maybe there is enough time.

The soft tyres, interesting how it seems to be holding up reasonably

well for Kimi Raikkonen here, despite not being a new tyre. If

they were to finish where they are now, Vettel would still lead the

championship. Alonso would still be in second. The gap would have opened

up first to second. Raikkonen still in third. Hamilton would be fourth

on 97 points. It doesn't really change the order very much. That is

the order, that was the order coming in, it just changes their tallies

and changes the gapds between the different drivers. -- gaps between

Webber is in eighth place. He's five seconds behind Sergio Perez. Di

Resta is on for points, so is Rosberg. Rosberg only 2. 4 seconds

behind roast Di Resta. Just outside the -- Paul di Resta. Just outside

the points at the moment. I've got to get these guys out of the way.

Button is struggling get through the traffic. He knows he only has a

five-second lead to Hamilton. Who is run running 1. 5 seconds a lap

faster. Should be OK though Jenson, hold that position. That's not a bad

result for Mclaren. They've been looking quite quick relative to

recent performances. They were within half a second of the fastest

qualifier in Q2 which is a major improvement. Both cars are in the

points at the moment. Button is fifth and Perez seventh. That would

be a real boost for the Mclaren team if they come home with those

positions. Webber will have ideas on changing that. The gap between

Raikkonen and Vettel, he's almost within the DRS range. 1. 3 seconds,

Vettel just keeping him off the DRS zone at the moment. Doesn't

lycopersicum there's going to be enough time un unless -- doesn't

look like there's going to be enough time. On home turf, can he take

victory here at the Nurburgring? Further extended his championship

lead. All he's thinking about is winning in Germany right now. Still,

he's just keeping enough of a gap back to Raikkonen, 1. 2 seconds.

Round this time to complete lap 58. Two laps to go then. Kimi Raikkonen

is not going to give up on this. But he's not quite close enough to get

into the DRS zone. Alonso, I think, was, yes, he is in the zone. He will

try to get past Romain Grosjean. Kimi Raikkonen will be in the DRS

zone in the last lap. . But will he actually be able to do anything with

it. There's a lapped car next up because fifth is Jenson Button only

1. 9 seconds ahead of Hamilton. Hamilton going two seconds of that

faster than Jenson Button. I don't think there's a chance that Button

will hold onto fifth. He could finish in sixth. Grosjean, Raikkonen

rather has taken another couple of tenths off Vettel. He will be in the

DRS zone. He's a second now behind the Red Red Bull. A race this is,

two of the greats of Formula One pushing to the salute limit in the

closing stages of the German Grand Prix. Still very little to choose

between them. Vettel desperately trying to stay over a second ahead

at the check points. 1. 046, 1. 025, as they go past the check points. It

needs to be under a second. Lewis, two laps remaining, Jenson has

fallen off this tyre. Hamilton is going to have him this lap. The gap

is down to under two seconds. Button will be vulnerable for Hamilton.

Onto the final lap. Sebastien Vettel, he's still got just over a

second's advantage over Kimi Raikkonen in second place. Romain

Grosjean still under attack from Fernando Alonso. Keep on eye in the

background. A slide there from Raikkonen. Last lap, last lap.

Attack, come on. Come on says Rocky. Raikkonen is not giving up on

chasing him down here. The gap, as they cross the line on our timing

screen, was 1. 0. But it was 1. 0 something. Here is Hamilton on

Button. He's down the outside into turn one. The battle of the Brits.

Cut back. No, he can't quite do it there. He might go round the

outside. Here comes Hamilton! Round the outside of Jenson Button. That's

moved him into fifth. He's leaving space for Jenson. That's a gentleman

racer for you. That's the second time today we've seen him give

space. The gap is in DRS range. You're right David, you said it

would be on the last lap. Surely Vettel has got enough here. Kimi

Raikkonen has got the gap down to under one second as they come

through turn 11 for the final time here. Down the back straight the DRS

flap is open. But there is just too much distance to be made up, surely.

Sebastien Vettel has driven a brilliant race here. Kimi Raikkonen

charging in the last few moments. Can he do anything? Up to the last

corner. I don't think it's likely. Vet set vet through the final turn

-- Sebastien Vettel through the final turn. Sebastien Vettel wins in

Germany! The first time he's won his home Grand Prix. He wins it for Red

Bull. Raikkonen a brilliant second. Grosjean just holds onto third.

Alonso dropped back on the last lap. Maybe he had a lunge of getting past

the Frenchman on the last lap. Alonso in fourth. We know Hamilton

has taken fifth position on this last lap from Jenson Button. But

we're just waiting to see how the other positions end up. Hamilton

just crossing the line in fifth. Button is sixth. Webber... In front

of Perez. Webber's got him. Webber is past Perez and Webber is going to

take seventh. Oh, and Alonso has stopped often this lap. That could

be a fuelling issue. He's getting out of the car. So whatever it is,

he's going to have to walk back up to the pits. The top ten, Rosberg in

ninth. Hulkenberg for the second race in succession, scores the final

point in tenth. Sebastien Vettel wins in Germany. His 30th career

victory. You've won your home race! You've won the German Grand Prix.

Kimi Raikkonen, as cool as ever coming within a second of the race

victory here today. Romain Grosjean, a solid job there to score his

second podium finish of the season. Now they can actually get to work

with the champagne. Something I'm sure that Sebastien Vettel has

droment of for a long time to be able to do -- dreamt of for a long

time to be able to do this. Definitely one of the toughest races

we've had for a long time, with no rest. Usually we are not on holiday,

but today I couldn't afford to really look after the tyres. I tried

to make sure that I don't damage them too much so that we have ape

stint long enough. The safety car didn't help us. But just very happy

that it worked out in the end and for the whole team and for myself it

was very special. They really tried very hard to give me the chance to

win here and we had it today. Fortunately I could use it. Explain

how much it means to you to win your home Grand Prix. When the flag came

out and the race was over, I enjoyed the in-lap a lot. I saw a lot of

people in the grand stands cheering and waving the flag. So that was

very special. This -- these kind of pictures will remain in my head for

hopefully a long time. Congratulations, the perfect day for

Sebastian today. Didn't have it all his own way, but the start was

amazing. It was a great start to the Grand Prix. For Sebastian to win at

home is the dream of any driver. We had our moments. We had some issues

during the race. But ultimately he managed to come through. It seems to

me that the actual getaway of the Mercedes was good, but your boys

swamped him on the run down to the first corner. What changed for this

race? Tiply Mark hasn't got off the -- typically Mark hasn't got off the

line well. The way that they dispatched the cars, the way they

used the KERS down to the first turn was absolutely right. Mark you'll

see on the left, tetch book between see on the left, tetch book between

see on the left, tetch book between the two of them. It was textbook add

that stage of the race. Just looking from this angle. I thought this was

really nice. Like a member image. But I bet you did not enjoy the pit

stops. We want to talk to Mark Webber now. A great recovery drive

from you but difficult circumstances. How much did you know

about what had happened in the pit lane? I knew that I lost the tyre

and I was told that somebody got hit with the wheel which is bad. I think

he is OK which is the first thing. And after that you wanted to be a

nightmare and to wake up tomorrow and have another go. It was a good

start. But we lost all of that and that was it. It was a missed

opportunity today? We did lose points, no question about it.

Paul Allen was the cameraman who did get hit. He was taken to the medical

centre and then helicoptered to hospital. But he is all right. It

was unfortunate. It is shocking to see something like that and he was

knocked over with such force. It just does not go on properly and

then the car is released. Unfortunately the cameraman was

completely unaware. Thankfully he was OK. Just talk us through the

procedure. Mark is looking at the lights to tell him to go. That is

activated manually. He is reacting purely to the lights so we need to

understand what happened and he was able to pull away. Nothing to do

with Mark Webber. That is an issue that we need to understand. It is a

reminder that it is still dangerous working in the pit lane.

Thank you very much. Well Kimi Raikkonen, some tough laps

out there. We heard you on team radio saying that you thought you

could stay out. So what happened? could not hear them on the radio.

But they could hear me. So that made it difficult to decide what to do.

So the safest thing was to come in. We got close but we did not get the

win. It is not possible to say that the tyres would have been OK.

last pit stop for Kimi Raikkonen, what is the thought process behind

that? Well we were watching carefully, his pace. We had some

indications about the wearer on the tyres. And we had in the back of our

minds some memories of Shanghai. We tried to get to the end but there

was a risk of losing the tyres. And at the late stage of the race we

tried to put on the options and catch up with Sebastien.

difficult was it, the radiocommunication? Well it made for

more stress. But it was the right call.

Let's hear from Romain Grosjean. wear impressive on the soft tyres in

the beginning and they did last a long time. It felt good. The

strategy in qualifying might have been a little bit different if we

had known that. But it was good to try it. We tried to jump Sebastian

Vettel on the pit stop. If I had been in front of him after the last

pit stop I think it would have been a different story.

Fernando, a quiet start to your afternoon but a good recovery

towards the end. I think the strategy worked fine. We finished

just behind Sebastian Vettel thought it was a good race pace that not

good enough to overtake them. The soft tyres at the beginning, that

was a surprise for us. We thought they would be slow and would beat

everybody. So it was a surprise for us. Perhaps we did not maximise the

advantage. So things not going according to plan today for

Ferrari. The teams are having to think on their feet. They were

operating within new parameters. And then over the course of three days

the rubber has gone down and the temperature is over 40 degrees. So

what they predict did just did not happen but another solid result.

They had some good battles especially this one with Lewis.

lot of respect between these former team-mates. This is down into turn

one. He tries to take it around the outside. But not this time. Taking

it absolutely to the limit. And not a good day for Felipe Massa. He was

stuck in fiscal year when he braked because of reliability issues and it

spun off the circuit. Jensen Button, is the traffic what caused due your

difficulties? Yes, that fighting cost me the fifth place. I have

spoken to them both and they do not think they did anything wrong. When

you are fighting for position you expect them to move over. Still a

better result than we have seen of late from McLaren. Any positives to

take away? Definitely. It is nice to be racing up towards the front. The

pace was not too bad compared to the cars in front either. I think we

should be happy with today and these are points that we really need. We

both lost out on the last lap which is a pain. But I think it was a good

weekend as a whole. Hopefully we can improve. So McLaren in the points

this week. But taking another look at that traffic he was talking

about. This is down into turn one. Clearly battling for position.

Jensen Button trying to maintain that fit place. The minute you have

to compromise your line, you start picking up dirt. You can see that

blue Marshall board. So he is losing time and he felt it cost him a

position. And you would have been frustrated in his position with Mac

when I was being lapped I always got well out of the way. I know how hard

it is when you find yourself racing at the front. Both of those guys are

paid to race as fast as they can. So they will be frustrated by a car

that holds them up. But McLaren do seem to have made progress this

weekend. In Q2 they will within half a second off the pace. They do seem

to have picked up with the different tyre specifications. They came off

the back of a couple of pointless races which is not what you expect

from McLaren. Well Lewis, the car was slipping and

sliding around but seemed to come alive at the end. Not really. It

just got lighter and lighter. I was pushing as hard as I could just to

get some points. I needed both points. Let's talk about tyres. You

were saying on team radio it seemed like some of the guys were on

different tyres to you. How difficult where they out there

today? It was like I was in another world compared to the others. They

just had so much grip. And they were just pulling away at a ridiculous

pace. And I was struggling to get past the salver. That was crazy that

I could struggle that much. So when I will joint by Paul Hembery from

Pirelli. How do you react to those comments? I think you more or less

explained it in Seoul. Everyone else was working with the same tyres and

it is their challenge to find out how they work. This year they gained

a lot of pace in qualifying. They need to match that now with the race

pace. You must be relieved to get back to normal operations? It has

been a busy week, that is for sure. We need to understand what happened

that Silverstone. A lot of that is still going on. But it was a good

race here and we are looking forward now to the young drivers test.

what can we expect for the rest of the season? Things are going to

change by the time we get to Hungary. I do not think too many

things will change. We will still have a mixture of strategies.

Hopefully races like today when people to approach it in a different

way. Perhaps the safety car ruined the end of the race a little bit

today. A look at the results from today now. The perfect date for

Sebastian Vettel taking the full 25 were your headlines for today?

Ferrari never really got the tyres to work for them. They should have

got to lap 25 before they get it. The safety car helped them into

fourth place but it took the safety car to do it. What could Kimi

Raikkonen have done? Well eight lap passed and they did not make the

decision. They needed to make the decision earlier. We are back in
