Hello and welcome to beautiful Monza. The sun is shining and the

:01:05.:01:09.

Hello and welcome to beautiful atmosphere is building. We are ready

:01:09.:01:12.

for the final practice before qualifying for the Italian Grand

:01:12.:01:17.

Prix. I'm joined by Allan McNish. Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull looked

:01:17.:01:21.

quick yesterday. The others have a lot of work to do. What can you do

:01:21.:01:26.

in a practice session? You are right, they looked quick. I don't

:01:26.:01:32.

think we saw the total picture. Mercedes were running with different

:01:32.:01:37.

fuel loads. We will see the true picture this morning. You can only

:01:37.:01:42.

tune things. We have seen different options with Ferrari. They will make

:01:42.:01:49.

the decision overnight. We came in this morning through

:01:49.:01:51.

the decision overnight. sea of red fans. They are demanding

:01:51.:01:59.

a victory from Harare. So is Fernando Alonso. So often on a

:01:59.:02:03.

Sunday he is playing catch up. How crucial is this afternoon? He needs

:02:03.:02:10.

a win. He has got to pin back Sebastian Vettel in the

:02:10.:02:15.

championship. Here, they need to have a good qualifying. If you give

:02:16.:02:24.

that an inch, he will take a mile. -- is to give Vettel. For me,

:02:24.:02:30.

qualifying is key for Ferrari. Monza is a different circuit. We saw

:02:30.:02:34.

a lot of different parts on the cars yesterday. Is today about refining?

:02:34.:02:41.

It is about deciding what works and what didn't. Lotus have gone back to

:02:41.:02:46.

their standard setup for suspension. We are not sure which

:02:46.:02:51.

way Ferrari went. They will be doing the last things, making sure the

:02:51.:02:55.

driver is comfortable with this low-down specification. The key for

:02:55.:03:02.

the drivers is consistency, the confidence to attack into the

:03:02.:03:06.

corners. One man who is looking around in

:03:06.:03:09.

delay for us in Tom -- is Tom Clarkson.

:03:09.:03:15.

I can see a lot of weary faces. Friday night is the one real

:03:15.:03:20.

opportunity the teams get to really analyse the data and make any

:03:20.:03:24.

significant changes. No team has made more changes than Lotus. They

:03:24.:03:30.

ran two specifications of cars yesterday. That was on Grosjean and

:03:30.:03:40.

Raikkonen. Raikkonen was in a car that was ten centimetres longer.

:03:40.:03:43.

They have reverted him to the traditional car. That means

:03:43.:03:48.

rebuilding the front suspension. It has a new nose. They have been

:03:48.:03:52.

working hard here. It is already very hot. I am in the shade but it

:03:52.:03:55.

working hard here. It is already is 27 degrees and getting hotter.

:03:55.:04:00.

We are quite enjoying it. This is maybe give -- last few days of

:04:00.:04:07.

summer. Jenny will be bringing us news throughout the session. We have

:04:07.:04:12.

got Ben Edwards and Gary Anderson in the commentary box.

:04:12.:04:19.

I think this will start gently. As we get into the final ten minutes,

:04:19.:04:23.

that is when we will see the real will find simulation take place. The

:04:23.:04:29.

problem is that today the track temperature is lower. Now it is down

:04:29.:04:35.

to 35. It will be more difficult to get the tyres warmed up. With so few

:04:35.:04:40.

corners on the lap, it is difficult to get the competent in the braking.

:04:40.:04:46.

Here we are, looking ready for start. They wonderful shot there of

:04:46.:04:52.

the Monza Gardens. The city is in the background. It is almost a

:04:52.:04:59.

suburb of Milan. You can see how close the houses are. We drove

:04:59.:05:03.

through the states on the way into the circuit. It is a noisy place to

:05:03.:05:07.

live, but what a wonderful place to be. So much history at this Monza

:05:07.:05:12.

circuit. We are looking forward to a great battle today. Max Chilton is

:05:12.:05:18.

first out. He was doing a good job yesterday.

:05:18.:05:24.

Bianchi missed the first session because the test driver was in his

:05:24.:05:33.

car in the morning. It is interesting to see that the drivers

:05:33.:05:40.

who didn't get to do their Friday morning, they had to sit out for

:05:40.:05:46.

others, and it is difficult for them. They are always on the back

:05:46.:05:51.

foot. You have got to get used to the sheer speed of some of these

:05:51.:05:54.

corners. It is all about confidence. They are

:05:54.:06:00.

braking down to 60 mph. It is about getting your night in and having the

:06:00.:06:09.

confidence in the brakes. Tom Clarkson has been telling us

:06:09.:06:10.

confidence in the brakes. they are not going to be running the

:06:10.:06:16.

long base car. Here to tell us now is the team principal.

:06:16.:06:22.

Why are you not running... It is noisy. Why are you not running the

:06:22.:06:29.

long wheel base car? We are happy. We brought it here. It is just a

:06:29.:06:34.

safe choice. We know it is competitive.

:06:35.:06:39.

What advantages did it bring? I cannot tell you. Stability?

:06:39.:06:58.

Another way of setting up the car, basically. It is as competitive

:06:58.:07:08.

as... We know we can develop more but we will take time to do it

:07:08.:07:13.

properly. Do you imagine racing it later in the year? Yes, of course.

:07:13.:07:19.

Interesting. They are looking to rate it later in the year. They have

:07:20.:07:24.

done a test with it. They have gathered a lot of data and now they

:07:24.:07:29.

go away and do some number crunching, do they? They moved the

:07:29.:07:35.

front wheels by around ten in -- ten centimetres.

:07:35.:07:39.

That will give the car a better braking stability. You will not

:07:39.:07:45.

transfer so much weight onto the front when braking. That is

:07:45.:07:49.

important on this circuit. It will save the rear tyres a bit. It is not

:07:49.:07:54.

so nervous. Those are the positives. Yesterday they did the same lap time

:07:54.:08:01.

with different wheel bases. I would have left it for the race. It is

:08:01.:08:07.

going to be lap 20 or 30 of the race that the benefit of saving the rear

:08:07.:08:09.

going to be lap 20 or 30 of the race tyres may come to you. They are not

:08:09.:08:12.

giving them much choice. I don't think there is much in it, to be

:08:12.:08:18.

honest. Any circuit we have got coming up

:08:18.:08:22.

where you think the long wheel base would be suited? I don't think so.

:08:22.:08:25.

where you think the long wheel base As the principal said, it was the

:08:25.:08:31.

same as a short wheelbase car. Here, the benefit would be the big

:08:31.:08:37.

braking. The car gets lazier or low speed corners with a longer base.

:08:37.:08:44.

All tracks have copper mines. I don't see the deficits. --

:08:44.:08:51.

compromises. Monza is all about Harare, in many ways. Jennie, you

:08:51.:08:58.

are outside the Garrard. Just waiting for Fernando Alonso's

:08:58.:09:06.

card to be pushed back. They are looking for as little drag as

:09:06.:09:10.

possible. Looking at the rear wing, very small flaps. You can see a very

:09:10.:09:20.

small element. Seven grade steps onto the back. It is different to

:09:20.:09:32.

all the other wings. The thing about downforce, everybody

:09:32.:09:36.

talks about reducing it and Monza, but they are actually reducing the

:09:36.:09:45.

drag. The front wing on the Ferrari has some components stripped of it.

:09:45.:09:52.

They have a seven element main wing assembly. That is to get consistency

:09:52.:09:58.

of downforce. It is part is you need to do, and from eyes is you need to

:09:58.:10:05.

make to get the low drag, to allow the cast to do an excess of 210 mph.

:10:05.:10:19.

-- and compromises. By the way, we are just seeing James

:10:19.:10:25.

Alison. He is here with Harare this weekend. He was technical director

:10:25.:10:30.

with the Lotus. He left quite early this year. -- he is herewith Harare

:10:30.:10:34.

this weekend. He put it on the surface of the

:10:34.:10:47.

wing. It washes the airflow off the wing to other areas of the car. It

:10:47.:10:53.

is a mechanism of understanding where the airflow arrives at the

:10:53.:10:58.

rest of the car. You have got to optimise those parts. You never stop

:10:58.:11:07.

learning. Every day is a school day. You can't do anything about it this

:11:07.:11:13.

weekend, but you might next weekend. Red Bull are always pushing the

:11:13.:11:14.

envelope, even when they are leading Red Bull are always pushing the

:11:14.:11:18.

the championship. Very impressive that they are still looking at every

:11:18.:11:23.

avenue. Sebastian Vettel's car is backing. Good morning, Christian.

:11:23.:11:33.

Both of York cars are out with the special paint a look at the airflow

:11:33.:11:40.

over the car will stop -- both of your cars. What is the thinking

:11:40.:11:48.

there? It is to see how the air is moving

:11:48.:11:54.

around the car. Some changes have been made overnight.

:11:54.:12:00.

Are you still experimenting between the two cars before settling?

:12:00.:12:07.

No, I think they have converged overnight. Most writers seem

:12:07.:12:14.

recently happy. It is a matter of fine tuning this morning. -- most

:12:14.:12:18.

drivers. These are the images that FOM have

:12:18.:12:25.

introduced this weekend. As a team, you will be looking at the

:12:25.:12:30.

temperature of tyres all year long. For us come as viewers, it is fun to

:12:31.:12:39.

see these thermal images. It is a great shot. It shows you some of the

:12:39.:12:44.

stresses the tyres are going through. They are pretty fragile.

:12:44.:12:48.

The difference circuits have through. They are pretty fragile.

:12:48.:12:51.

different loads and characteristics. That is something the teams have

:12:51.:12:55.

been looking at in their own equipment.

:12:55.:13:03.

The difference between the two tyres this weekend, the medium and the

:13:03.:13:09.

hard, yesterday it didn't seem as big a difference as we have seen in

:13:09.:13:14.

other circuits. Presumably, it is not going to be a huge of pit stops

:13:14.:13:21.

tomorrow? The margin between the hard and the soft tyre is not

:13:21.:13:26.

massive. It is not clear what the strategy

:13:26.:13:34.

will be for tomorrow. We will get a better picture as we progress

:13:34.:13:38.

through today. Everybody overnight has been

:13:38.:13:43.

analysing straight line speed. You guys don't seem to be quick in the

:13:43.:13:51.

straight to overtake anyone. I you confident you can get in the front

:13:51.:13:58.

row of the grid? We noticed we work at the back of the speed track

:13:58.:14:03.

yesterday. We have never been particularly good at that. Hopefully

:14:03.:14:08.

we will be better today. Thank you. Hopefully we will get a

:14:08.:14:12.

chance to catch up with you later on as well. Sergio Perez is the first

:14:12.:14:16.

to have established a lap time. Just to remind you of what happened

:14:16.:14:22.

yesterday, Lewis Hamilton headed the first practice session in the

:14:22.:14:23.

morning for Mercedes. He was ahead of Alonso and Rosberg.

:14:24.:14:30.

When it came to the afternoon, though, as we have referred to, it

:14:30.:14:33.

was a Red Bull afternoon. Sebastian though, as we have referred to, it

:14:33.:14:39.

Vettel's time was impressive. Alonso was fifth. Hamilton was six. We are

:14:39.:14:44.

looking at the thermal camera. We are looking at how the tyre

:14:44.:14:50.

temperature changes as he goes through the corners. One of the

:14:50.:14:54.

things that intrigues me is how narrow band the tyre is doing. That

:14:54.:15:04.

things that intrigues me is how inner shoulder is rubbing on the

:15:04.:15:07.

ground. When you turn around this corner, around Curva Parabolica, I

:15:07.:15:13.

was just looking at that shot coming into the pits and that is about 130

:15:13.:15:18.

degrees. It is one tired doing all of that, the right-hand and there is

:15:18.:15:23.

no big spread across the under braking. Not as much as you would

:15:23.:15:33.

expect. And this circuit, lots of right-hand corners and very few left

:15:33.:15:37.

hand. Getting that right-hand tyre warmed up for qualifying, that will

:15:37.:15:43.

be critical. We saw that yesterday when they went out on the softer of

:15:43.:15:53.

those tyres, medium, harder tyres at the moment, and you can see Paul di

:15:53.:15:58.

Resta on-screen, but we did see drivers were able to do a quick lap

:15:58.:16:02.

on their second flying lap so maybe getting tired to come in quickly

:16:02.:16:06.

will be a challenge when it comes to qualifying. When you consider the

:16:06.:16:11.

last corner on the lap, but is actually very important and you have

:16:11.:16:17.

to come off quickly and it is very easy to get understeer and not come

:16:17.:16:21.

off as quickly as you should and then you will lose that time down

:16:21.:16:27.

the straight. You will see a lot of people weaving and doing

:16:27.:16:29.

heartbreaking, and that is what really put energy into the tyres. I

:16:30.:16:39.

did not quite capture that short comment... Braking but lots of

:16:39.:16:45.

energy into the front tyres and weaving also does a little bit but

:16:45.:16:49.

it keeps the temperature into the tyres and does not increase them.

:16:49.:16:54.

Paul di Resta, locking up. You can get in touch on Twitter. Good

:16:54.:17:01.

morning and great to have your comments. That'll is just too far --

:17:01.:17:08.

too far ahead of the stage, says one viewer. He will always be on the

:17:08.:17:13.

podium. We know he is very well placed and Paddy says, anyone else

:17:13.:17:20.

thinks that his dominance would turn people off because he is so

:17:20.:17:23.

unpopular. He is obviously going through a winning patch and some

:17:24.:17:30.

other thermal camera shots. You can see that left front doing all of the

:17:30.:17:34.

work on the turn in and then be right front lights up with Orange,

:17:34.:17:42.

those high-temperature colours. McLaren, celebrating their 50th

:17:42.:17:45.

anniversary and we shall see what happens. The prospect of him doing

:17:45.:17:51.

better. David has commented, we could see F1 McLaren on the podium.

:17:51.:18:01.

That is helpful. A lot of people would like -- would like to see

:18:01.:18:04.

McLaren doing well as it is their 30th anniversary. There was a big

:18:04.:18:07.

McLaren doing well as it is their launch at McLaren celebrating all

:18:07.:18:12.

about history back from 1963 when Bruce McLaren launched the company.

:18:12.:18:19.

A beautiful book published about the highlights and looking at some of

:18:19.:18:21.

those drivers and some amazing pictures. Nice to see those

:18:21.:18:26.

celebrations continuing but it might be tough for them to make a lot of

:18:26.:18:31.

this weekend. Another tweet, if Ferrari tried to too each other for

:18:31.:18:35.

qualifying, will it be a significant benefit? It is just making sure they

:18:35.:18:42.

don't get delayed. You cannot follow anybody through Parabolica, it is

:18:42.:18:50.

too fast, so the main positions are down the main straight past the pits

:18:50.:18:58.

or up the back straight into Variante Ascari. But the driver

:18:58.:19:03.

behind has to get out of your way. I would guess that if they can do that

:19:03.:19:05.

behind has to get out of your way. I on one of those, you will gain two

:19:05.:19:10.

tenths of a second and that is massive around Monza. It only went

:19:10.:19:15.

wrong last at the end because Fernando Alonso suffered a broken

:19:15.:19:21.

rear anti-roll bar. They have been practising this weekend. And later

:19:21.:19:28.

on Friday they did a lot of practice so I would be expecting but Ferrari

:19:28.:19:31.

cars to work together well. There are no other team-mates at their end

:19:31.:19:37.

edit to each other to do that but Ferrari, for sure. What can McLaren

:19:37.:19:45.

achieve this weekend? Jonathan Neale joins us. Let's talk about on the

:19:45.:19:52.

track. Do you feel more competitive this weekend? We have these

:19:52.:19:58.

downforce circuits and the car is working reasonably well. It is

:19:58.:20:04.

working for them and the balance is fine and yesterday we tried

:20:04.:20:07.

different levels and here in Monza, there is a very careful balance

:20:07.:20:12.

between downforce to take you safely through the chicanes and around the

:20:12.:20:17.

high-speed stuff and you don't want to get taken out on those long

:20:17.:20:19.

straights. Yesterday morning we were pretty competitive and yesterday

:20:19.:20:25.

afternoon and took too much downforce from the car and we have

:20:25.:20:28.

reviewed that and gone backwards slightly but we are having problems

:20:28.:20:33.

with the tyres at the moment and the cars are pretty well balanced. We

:20:33.:20:36.

observed that yesterday afternoon, Jenson Button seemed to set a faster

:20:36.:20:42.

time on medium tyres went earlier on, perhaps on the first lap, the

:20:42.:20:46.

other drivers were struggling for the third lap. Has he find some way

:20:46.:20:52.

of warming up those tyres? I would love to give you the secrets but we

:20:52.:20:57.

cannot eat quite as confident as that. There are so many factors

:20:57.:21:02.

through the afternoon in this lovely sunshine and the surface is heating

:21:02.:21:06.

up and Pirelli have been adjusting the tyre pressure and different fuel

:21:06.:21:12.

loads and driving styles make a difference so the real answer is we

:21:12.:21:16.

have no problem warming them up, but whether we can get those laps out of

:21:16.:21:18.

them this afternoon against everybody else... How important is

:21:19.:21:22.

the podium this weekend because we everybody else... How important is

:21:22.:21:26.

are Staring down the barrel of no podiums throughout the whole season?

:21:26.:21:35.

Every time we come to a race, with Formula one, it is a very tough

:21:35.:21:39.

competition and we have set out our stall to win every time and that

:21:39.:21:44.

will be challenging given the season that we have had but this is not the

:21:44.:21:48.

first time. If you look at those 182 race wins over 52 years, which is

:21:48.:21:52.

amazing, bruising things I'd with Ferrari, but when you look at that

:21:52.:21:58.

board and what happens over a period, there are seasons when

:21:58.:22:00.

board and what happens over a things don't quite go according to

:22:00.:22:03.

plan and if you talk to any business leader, he will tell you that when

:22:03.:22:08.

you are in the sweet spot, you prepare for the next thing that will

:22:08.:22:11.

hit you and the strength is how we can take the learning from the

:22:11.:22:15.

season and bounce back. You have had a podium in every season for the

:22:15.:22:21.

last 33 years? That would be fantastic and you have to earn the

:22:21.:22:26.

right to do that. Good luck. If you look back at 1995, they were lacking

:22:26.:22:31.

the podium all the way through until Monza and then Mika Hakkinen got

:22:31.:22:36.

their very first that season. Little use of that escape road, some people

:22:36.:22:41.

struggling to get that balance just right? Getting their braking balance

:22:41.:22:43.

but also they are braking for this right? Getting their braking balance

:22:43.:22:51.

chicane at 135 metres from the corner and you take 150 mph from

:22:51.:22:56.

that speed so you get that wrong by one metre and you must go straight

:22:56.:23:03.

on. You have this slalom of barriers in every corner is just a little

:23:03.:23:07.

different and some areas up to the trees, Variante Ascari, it is quite

:23:07.:23:12.

different to every corner is a new challenge and it is not repetitive.

:23:12.:23:18.

John Eric Vergne, Toro Rosso, the other a Italian team on the home

:23:18.:23:23.

soil and he was fastest at the moment so himself, Gutierrez, Paul

:23:23.:23:29.

di Resta in fifth place. Pastor Maldonado, a head of Adrian Sutil

:23:29.:23:35.

and Giedo van der Garde. These times are not fully relevant yet. Some

:23:35.:23:49.

sliding around from Kimi Raikkonen. 25.5 is pretty impressive for him

:23:49.:23:53.

this early on. Yes, the fuel load makes the difference and we will

:23:53.:23:56.

have to wait and see what he should be encouraged. Kimi Raikkonen, only

:23:56.:24:00.

a fraction faster and he was right be encouraged. Kimi Raikkonen, only

:24:00.:24:04.

up there, yesterday. Third fastest. That was a very good lap by the

:24:04.:24:06.

Frenchman. One point ahead of That was a very good lap by the

:24:06.:24:10.

team-mates in the Championship although we know that his team-mate

:24:10.:24:15.

is going to Red Bull for next year. He did at school Ricciardo, but as

:24:15.:24:19.

we know, he has been awed at red role, but very impressive test at

:24:19.:24:25.

Silverstone I'm sure was a key part of that. He is further down the

:24:25.:24:36.

order but we have some people who have not set any lap time because it

:24:36.:24:40.

is early and this is a 60 minute session as opposed to 90 minutes on

:24:40.:24:44.

Friday so it does disappear quickly and in that final 20 minutes we will

:24:44.:24:49.

see drivers switching on those softer tyres and going for a

:24:49.:24:52.

qualifying run which is important for the drivers. Because the margins

:24:52.:25:02.

are just so tiny? Yes, and it is how we can treat that one would love to

:25:02.:25:05.

get the best out of those tyres when you start those qualifying laps and

:25:05.:25:08.

that is what they will be approaching. Jonathan said they had

:25:08.:25:11.

that is what they will be no problems with warm-ups and no

:25:11.:25:14.

team would tell you that because it is very difficult here. The tyres

:25:14.:25:20.

cooldown, as we can see from those thermal imaging cameras, down the

:25:20.:25:24.

straight, so you have to get a lot of temperature into those tyres for

:25:24.:25:26.

when you really wanted for braking of temperature into those tyres for

:25:26.:25:30.

up the first chicane and for traction so it is a very critical

:25:30.:25:32.

part of getting the best out of the traction so it is a very critical

:25:32.:25:42.

new set of tyres. TEAM RADIO: the rear tyres, especially through one

:25:42.:25:47.

and two. Some explanation of those rear tyres going. Paul di Resta has

:25:47.:25:53.

had this amazing sequence. Five bull positions in total. Will he have a

:25:54.:26:04.

car that will allow him to keep that pole position run going? From

:26:04.:26:08.

yesterday and today, Sebastian Vettel is top of the charts. The Red

:26:08.:26:15.

yesterday and today, Sebastian Bull cars look very strong but Lewis

:26:16.:26:20.

Hamilton on a new set of tyres in qualifying, do not underestimate

:26:20.:26:25.

what he can achieve. He is phenomenal and he took pole position

:26:25.:26:28.

last year and went on to take victory. Felipe Massa, Ferrari

:26:28.:26:36.

driver, he was fined yesterday. The team was fined $10,000 because they

:26:36.:26:41.

find that when he went to the end of the Petro, he locked up going across

:26:41.:26:46.

the line because he saw the red light going on and Sebastian Vettel

:26:46.:26:52.

is on a very quick lap... We shall keep an eye on that. There was that

:26:52.:26:59.

fine because it was deemed that he should not have been released from

:26:59.:27:02.

the garage when the chequered flag was about to come out. I think you

:27:02.:27:11.

just cared -- he just said, the car is very bad on the last corner. He

:27:11.:27:22.

admitted macro 24.4 yesterday -- he did 1: 24.4. Yesterday. That lap, he

:27:22.:27:38.

did and the fastest is Daniel Ricciardo at 340. 336 is in touch so

:27:38.:27:44.

with some aerodynamic trimming that Christian one was telling us about,

:27:44.:27:47.

but is not far away, pretty competitive. Grosjean, Hamilton, in

:27:47.:27:53.

competition with Sebastian Vettel, they are in touch with the top

:27:53.:27:58.

speeds. Once again, Red Bull, first and second. Never had a particularly

:27:58.:28:08.

good record at Monza, his best qualifying performance, Mark Webber,

:28:08.:28:14.

was third, but that range so much. Lewis Hamilton, again, always that

:28:14.:28:19.

second chicane. He has been doing this a lot today. He is

:28:19.:28:25.

experimenting with his threshold of braking into that and he just

:28:25.:28:31.

decides to bailout. We talked on Thursday night and he said he still

:28:31.:28:35.

doesn't have the confidence with his brakes and he locks up his right

:28:35.:28:39.

doesn't have the confidence with his front and there is a time when you

:28:39.:28:44.

must decide either abort or drive. He will try to abort early because

:28:44.:28:48.

the last thing is to put a huge flat spot on his tyres because if that

:28:48.:28:52.

was qualifying or the race, he would have gone round the corner. At the

:28:52.:28:59.

moment, take the easy way. On board, it looked like an adjustment on the

:28:59.:29:03.

brake balance just before going in. And then he readjusted so here still

:29:03.:29:08.

experimenting a little bit to try to find that sweet spot and that often

:29:08.:29:13.

changes for each corner? It does here. It is one of those things

:29:13.:29:21.

because of this harvesting of KERS, trying to charge that up. That brake

:29:21.:29:27.

balance is very important. And around here, with these quick

:29:27.:29:32.

braking stops, he tries to brake quite rightly so there is not much

:29:32.:29:36.

charge on the next corner. The brake balance will be different on each

:29:36.:29:41.

corner and also because of those trees. There is shadow and the

:29:41.:29:46.

temperature is different but also those surfaces because it is

:29:46.:29:51.

different. Alan will join us. You have done plenty of laps. Talk to us

:29:51.:30:03.

about working here. It is such a factor? It is very difficult because

:30:03.:30:08.

each area is critical. And they are slightly bumpy and as Gary said,

:30:08.:30:13.

those trees and the shadows, that comes into things but right now,

:30:13.:30:17.

everybody will try to get that last little part out of it and they will

:30:17.:30:20.

be braking as little as possible but if you do lock up with these escape

:30:20.:30:24.

routes, it is better to come off and run through so we have seen that

:30:24.:30:28.

yesterday but Lewis Hamilton definitely through the course of

:30:28.:30:33.

this works very hard to maximise his points and he executes in

:30:33.:30:34.

qualifying. Especially, he will be points and he executes in

:30:34.:30:41.

working on his driving to find those limits. Might you really be playing

:30:41.:30:45.

with the brake balance on this track? I play with the balance a lot

:30:45.:30:56.

on corners. You have got the time and opportunity to adjust it and

:30:56.:31:00.

make sure it is perfect for each individual one. The braking areas

:31:00.:31:03.

look the same but they are different. Thank you for that.

:31:03.:31:12.

BEN EDWARDS: Just watching Alonso coming out of the corner. Ferrari

:31:12.:31:19.

are working on a bit of slipstreaming here. As we saw last

:31:19.:31:26.

year, it looks like we are going to see it. They are close together at

:31:26.:31:31.

the beginning of the lap. GARY ANDERSON: That is not a problem.

:31:31.:31:41.

I think you have to see Felipe Massa moving out of the way. Two Straits,

:31:41.:31:59.

Fernando got there. Is this something you have played with in

:31:59.:32:03.

the past? Certainly at Le Monde 's you have got long straights you can

:32:03.:32:10.

take advantage of. In qualifying, I have always found I lost out. You

:32:10.:32:16.

are focusing so hard and making sure to get it correct that you missed

:32:16.:32:21.

other things. I have always found it easier to concentrate on yourself

:32:21.:32:27.

and don't worry about anybody else. Ferrari have tried this in previous

:32:27.:32:30.

years and they keep coming back to it. It shows how much effort they

:32:30.:32:37.

have to put into this. An interesting comment from

:32:37.:32:43.

Twitter. Matt has asked, do you think Felipe Massa's performance

:32:43.:32:48.

this weekend will dictate whether he gets to drive next season?

:32:48.:32:53.

I don't think the performance from one track to justify any decision

:32:54.:32:59.

for the whole season. You have to look at it as an average. You have

:32:59.:33:05.

to look at the back-up he gives to Alonso. It is not one race, to be

:33:05.:33:11.

honest. Thanks for your question, Matt. We

:33:12.:33:16.

have a few more coming in. What is the weather forecast? There's a

:33:16.:33:22.

possibility of showers. We will keep an eye on that. Let's go down to the

:33:22.:33:27.

pits. Tom, some information on Rosberg?

:33:27.:33:34.

Nothing other than he is out of the car! Mercedes don't know the

:33:34.:33:39.

problem, either. They don't know if it is a sensor problem or a real

:33:39.:33:43.

problem. The flaw is coming off the car.

:33:43.:33:51.

We will keep an eye on that. Jennie, what have you got? JENNIE GOW: I am

:33:51.:33:59.

just looking into the Lotus. Kimi Raikkonen, they have been tweaking

:33:59.:34:05.

his suspension. He is not happy with the way the car is failing in the

:34:05.:34:11.

turns. They are saying that on the straight committee is happy. -- on

:34:11.:34:23.

the straight, he is happy. The two Ferraris are happiest.

:34:23.:34:34.

As you said earlier, how many other teams have team-mates who would work

:34:34.:34:44.

so corporative league? -- co-operatively?

:34:44.:34:52.

Whenever two team-mates are working well in this circuit... Alonso, when

:34:52.:35:02.

he was towed by Felipe Massa, and then going back to Sebastian Vettel,

:35:02.:35:10.

he did to 336 on his own. They are running some downforce. They are

:35:10.:35:14.

normally pretty quick on the straight.

:35:14.:35:21.

He is the former boss of Benetton and Renault. He is still involved as

:35:21.:35:28.

a driver manager. Keeping an eye on what is going on here at Monza. Our

:35:28.:35:33.

Ferrari going to pull something out of the bag? At the moment it is Red

:35:33.:35:37.

Bull one Micro, two. That pushes weather down to third.

:35:37.:35:47.

-- Mark Webber. Raikkonen is currently sixth. Jenson

:35:47.:36:07.

Button is seventh. Felipe Massa is only ten. Grosjean is 11th.

:36:07.:36:19.

Hulkenberg had all kinds of problems yesterday. The Mexican driver at

:36:19.:36:23.

Sauber is doing a good job this weekend. Still to score any points

:36:23.:36:30.

in Formula One. What is happening at the lower end? Perez is 13th. Van

:36:30.:36:40.

der Garde is the fastest of the young teams' drivers.

:36:40.:36:51.

Just watching Paul di Resta having a big lock up here. I would like to

:36:51.:36:54.

Just watching Paul di Resta having a see the thermal camera on that one.

:36:54.:36:58.

I think there would be a red glow. You asked for it.

:36:58.:37:04.

The flat spot went white. That must You asked for it.

Monza. He joined in the 1970s in the era of

:37:38.:37:44.

Niki Lauda. How is your Italian, Gary? Not

:37:44.:38:04.

great. I think he was asking for some sugar in his coffee.

:38:04.:38:12.

Ferrari need to deliver something special. He is up on the split

:38:12.:38:18.

times. Let's see whether he is able to complete this lap. Felipe Massa

:38:18.:38:23.

is up ahead. I don't know if he can get much of a toe from him or not.

:38:23.:38:32.

He has backed off. That has rather messed up by Alonzo's attempts. It

:38:32.:38:38.

is Force India. It is Paul di Resta. He is into the barrier on the

:38:38.:38:43.

outside of the tyre barrier. Just about the worst time to come off. It

:38:43.:38:49.

may just be front wing damage. The front suspension looks OK.

:38:49.:38:55.

Normally you slow down by a reasonable amount by the time you

:38:55.:39:00.

get to them. It is a very fast corner. You have to get off the

:39:00.:39:06.

throttle when it is blind. You can't see out of it. He went straight on,

:39:06.:39:11.

basically. Strange to see it so early on in the corner. Let's look

:39:11.:39:16.

at the Flow-Viz. Something broke, he said.

:39:16.:39:25.

The rear and has snapped. It looks OK. A bit over steel the entry, then

:39:25.:39:32.

he corrected it, and by that time you have missed a line will stop --

:39:32.:39:42.

oversteer on the entry. If you can shoot in for our

:39:42.:39:47.

qualifying programme on BBC One, we had a great feature with Paul di

:39:47.:39:49.

Resta. He is looking to see what has gone

:39:49.:40:01.

on. Alonso missed out on what could have been a lap to go quickest. He

:40:01.:40:06.

was up on the split times. It was a close run thing. He is only just off

:40:06.:40:11.

of Vettel at the moment. It could be a close run thing when they put the

:40:11.:40:19.

softer tyre on. As di Resta's car is taken away, there is the thermal

:40:19.:40:26.

camera. They may have changed the degree of heat on that one now.

:40:26.:40:30.

Suddenly all the colours are lighting up even though it is not

:40:30.:40:37.

going around. When he was coming off, the brakes

:40:37.:40:45.

will have been around 900 degrees. The heat has to dissipate somehow.

:40:45.:40:52.

It goes into the mass around it. When they come into the pits, the

:40:52.:40:55.

brake cooling machines always go to the cars. He didn't hit anything.

:40:55.:41:14.

It doesn't look as though the homework has done them good at the

:41:14.:41:19.

moment. Obviously, we have to wait and see before the session

:41:19.:41:24.

finishes. Vettel is on a reasonable lap.

:41:24.:41:28.

The kids and I on the second checkpoint. -- he keeps an eye. The

:41:28.:41:39.

car is not moving around at all, just going forward and maintaining

:41:39.:41:42.

momentum. That is what this track is about. You can see the twitch as the

:41:42.:41:50.

card turns in. Stable on the way out. Let's see what the lap time is.

:41:50.:41:59.

It is an improvement by two tenths of a second. He is only just off

:41:59.:42:07.

what he did on the softer tyre yesterday. Everybody is waiting for

:42:07.:42:15.

the last 15 minutes or so. Rosberg is looking at the screen. He has got

:42:15.:42:21.

a problem at the moment. It is going to be the look -- last ten minutes

:42:21.:42:29.

before we see everybody ringing the cars' necks. It is not as hot as it

:42:29.:42:37.

is going to be in qualifying but it is coming up in there.

:42:37.:42:44.

You can see the oscillation through the front wing. The assembly has to

:42:44.:42:48.

be stiffer than it was. There are specific tests to make sure they are

:42:48.:42:53.

not bending backwards. Last year there was one test, on

:42:53.:43:00.

each side of the wing. Now there are two to make sure the wing doesn't

:43:00.:43:05.

twist. Everything on the racing car still moves. The test is to make

:43:05.:43:16.

sure it stays there within regulation controls. It is up to

:43:16.:43:20.

everybody to maximise the deflection in whatever manner you want. Adrian

:43:20.:43:24.

Sutil, we had a spin from him when we last saw him. He used a lot of

:43:24.:43:30.

road on the way out. The car is not giving him at

:43:30.:43:33.

stability. Let's watch into the corner where di Resta went off that

:43:33.:43:44.

looked OK. -- let's watch him into the corner where di Resta went off.

:43:44.:43:52.

That looked OK. You're never sure what the car is

:43:52.:43:58.

going to do next. This is a track where he has had his

:43:58.:44:05.

best ever career performances. It doesn't look as though they are

:44:05.:44:16.

going to be in position this time. It has been a difficult season for

:44:16.:44:20.

Williams. They are desperate to score more points. Let's catch

:44:21.:44:23.

Williams. They are desperate to what is going on. The DRS is briefly

:44:23.:44:34.

disabled. Maldonado, I think backed on that lap. He did a good lap

:44:34.:44:39.

earlier on. It looks as though Williams have

:44:39.:44:52.

made some progress overnight. That lower downforce set up, it can

:44:52.:44:57.

suit some cars. One of Williams' biggest problems has been the

:44:57.:45:03.

stability of the rear of the car. One to change the configuration, as

:45:03.:45:08.

you have for Monza, Italy eliminated parts that are not working

:45:08.:45:21.

correctly. And Sean Rigg Ferran does continue. Photographers trying to

:45:21.:45:29.

snap an image of those cars travelling. -- Jean-Eric Vergne.

:45:29.:45:38.

Both Toro Rosso cars, 340 kilometres an hour. And that is at the end of

:45:38.:45:44.

that speed trap. Back to Sebastian Vettel. 334 and 336. If you look at

:45:44.:45:54.

that speed trap. Back to Sebastian that competition, Kimi Raikkonen,

:45:54.:45:59.

337. They have trimmed their car more and they are looking at being

:45:59.:46:03.

quicker on those straights so they can overtake that Middlefield so

:46:03.:46:08.

everybody has their own solution but you would need more downforce to

:46:08.:46:11.

look after those tyres. Mark Webber, third fastest once again. He

:46:11.:46:19.

is quickest at this stage and another good luck. Still not harder

:46:19.:46:26.

compound. He has done ten laps on these and he is on the pace that he

:46:26.:46:32.

said yesterday on the medium tyres. Gary wondered if you could find out

:46:32.:46:34.

any more about the problems with Gary wondered if you could find out

:46:34.:46:39.

Nico Rosberg. I have been trying and I am at the front of his pit garage

:46:39.:46:43.

and they are taking off the gearbox and they say that the hydraulic

:46:43.:46:48.

temperatures are too high and they have to have a look but the gearbox

:46:48.:46:53.

is coming off and with 20 minutes left, it is unlikely that he will

:46:53.:46:59.

come out again. He has left the garage so not a very good start to

:46:59.:47:05.

his day. I did mention that we had not seen him. What did you see on

:47:05.:47:12.

the tyres with Sergio Perez? There was some rubber missing. It could

:47:12.:47:17.

come easily from a lock up and sometimes it is further in. That

:47:17.:47:25.

gets the hottest but that was right in the middle. I don't know what

:47:25.:47:31.

size it was, there is no marking around the outside so just a little

:47:31.:47:36.

bit of trade coming. That is a little concerning and Jenny, it has

:47:36.:47:44.

been trying for Force India with Paul di Resta coming off and Adrian

:47:44.:47:47.

Sutil spinning. What is the mood like? One side of the garage is busy

:47:47.:47:55.

and the other is quiet. Andrew Green, technical director, is stood

:47:55.:47:59.

at the back of the garage and he is looking at the rear left of Adrian

:48:00.:48:05.

Sutil 's car, it looks like one of those little beer flaps has been

:48:05.:48:12.

broken. -- rear flaps. I have spoken to the scene about Paul di Resta and

:48:12.:48:18.

they don't know any more, it looks like his car lost control and he

:48:18.:48:19.

they don't know any more, it looks said that something had look. They

:48:19.:48:23.

are trying to find out what had happened. -- something had broken.

:48:23.:48:31.

As we know, the gap in qualifying is pretty tight? They will be working

:48:31.:48:36.

as quickly as they can as soon as they get that car back in. And for

:48:36.:48:42.

both cars to have a problem at the same time, they cannot divert any of

:48:42.:48:47.

the workflow to the other car. No lunch brake for the Force India

:48:47.:48:53.

team! They will be itching to get that car back! Mark Webber, does he

:48:53.:48:58.

get down to the pace of Sebastian Vettel? No, but that was his best so

:48:58.:49:05.

far. Sebastian Vettel still has that margin. Further down, Fernando

:49:05.:49:10.

Alonso, and out-lap from Jenson Button still showing up well. --

:49:10.:49:17.

that lap. That is a lovely shot of the banking at Monza. It was used

:49:17.:49:20.

that lap. That is a lovely shot of for times when Italian grand prix

:49:20.:49:27.

but it just proved too much to be a destroyer of cars. In America I have

:49:27.:49:37.

been on tracks like this. TEAM RADIO: I have lost the front grip.

:49:37.:49:47.

Understood. If you look at the loads around the normal track, the force

:49:47.:49:53.

is huge. And when you get that initial compression at the bottom of

:49:53.:49:59.

the death, that is one G vertically. And the weight of the car is 700

:49:59.:50:04.

kilograms. It is very easy to brake stuff. They stopped using banking in

:50:04.:50:14.

the early 1960s and they have reverted to this track although it

:50:14.:50:15.

did not have any chicanes through reverted to this track although it

:50:15.:50:20.

the mid-60s. They came in for the early 70s. Apart from that, just

:50:20.:50:24.

little detail changes over the years. Hulkenberg back in, 11th

:50:24.:50:33.

fastest and Gutierrez is 14th. Sauber might be making some progress

:50:33.:50:36.

this weekend. Further down, Charles Pic is fastest of the younger

:50:36.:50:41.

drivers, both Caterham cars virtually together and Rosberg has

:50:41.:50:46.

not done any representative time. The gearbox has come off the back of

:50:46.:50:52.

the car so that is valuable time last and at the bottom end, we have

the car so that is valuable time got children and Jules Bianchi. Max

getting ready for a qualifying similar issue. That is a very good

:52:00.:52:05.

shot that front wing. The area in front of the front tyre is a

:52:05.:52:08.

critical because in reality, the front tyre is the thing that moves

:52:08.:52:13.

and you have steering lock and lose bid, about 10 degrees of steering

:52:13.:52:18.

lock and that he's -- at high speed, three degrees or four degrees. That

:52:18.:52:24.

is always different on every corner. What I criticise with McLaren is I

:52:24.:52:29.

is always different on every corner. believe the concept and the way they

:52:29.:52:31.

have developed their car this year is a very good baggage but I believe

:52:31.:52:35.

the front wing is still not as consistent flowing as a driver needs

:52:35.:52:42.

to get confidence in his car. Lovely shot that grandstand and you were

:52:42.:52:48.

almost assaulted by a Scottish van who was so excited to meet you but

:52:48.:52:52.

at Monza, you have visitors from all over the world? I thought the guy

:52:52.:52:59.

was out of his head! But he wasn't, he was just going mad. You have got

:52:59.:53:04.

fancier, no matter where they come from and they are into this Italian

:53:04.:53:10.

enthusiasm and up the gate, they love it and the amount of English,

:53:10.:53:13.

British people that we have met over this weekend, it is amazing how

:53:13.:53:19.

many. Andy support for Formula one is absolutely fantastic. We will see

:53:19.:53:26.

flags from all over the world. Confirmation of those figures.

:53:27.:53:36.

Interestingly, just a little bit behind Alonso. Ferrari have not gone

:53:36.:53:43.

for a total straight-line speed. No, and Red Bull need to be there, with

:53:43.:53:47.

their competitors. And competitors are Lotus and Ferrari and Mercedes

:53:47.:53:53.

and they have to try to stay in that window. They have got a fairly

:53:53.:53:56.

reasonable copper mines. Not at the bottom, in the middle. They have

:53:56.:54:02.

that opportunity. Fans from all over the world. Mark Webber will be

:54:02.:54:10.

leaving and Daniel Ricciardo coming in. There have only been three

:54:10.:54:15.

Australians in F1 before Daniel Ricciardo. And two world champions.

:54:15.:54:24.

Mark never quite won the world Championship and Christian Horner is

:54:24.:54:27.

back on the pit wall. Nice and peaceful there. Mark never quite

:54:27.:54:31.

managed to win the world Championship but he came close. If

:54:31.:54:37.

you had to summarise the strengths of Mark Webber, how would you do

:54:37.:54:43.

that? He is a very quick driver and he has got great determination and

:54:43.:54:48.

if you look at that career from juniors coming over from Australia

:54:48.:54:52.

at 17 years old with absolutely nothing and having to fight through

:54:52.:54:58.

the junior ranks and then he took that unorthodox route through sports

:54:58.:55:00.

the junior ranks and then he took cars and he fought his way into F1

:55:00.:55:05.

and he is a very determined character. There is a little bit of

:55:05.:55:12.

difference between himself and Sebastian. There does seem to be

:55:13.:55:17.

that gap that we have seen in previous years. Where does Sebastian

:55:17.:55:22.

game that time? Where is his advantage? Nowhere particular, just

:55:22.:55:28.

a little bit everywhere. If you look at that first sector, one tenth

:55:28.:55:32.

between them and in the second, two tenths. And in the third, three

:55:32.:55:39.

tenths. It is a little bit everywhere. Sebastian seems to have

:55:39.:55:46.

the ability every weekend to be absolutely getting those top notes.

:55:46.:55:52.

Do they set the cars up identical in or do they have their own driving

:55:52.:55:55.

styles that means something different? Slightly different but

:55:55.:56:01.

not radically. They can converge quite often so overnight, they

:56:01.:56:06.

converge to a fairly similar setup. Mark drives very classically and

:56:06.:56:12.

Sebastian rotates more, he likes a looser rear end, like a motorbike.

:56:12.:56:22.

That is just individual taste. Just looking at those straight-line

:56:22.:56:26.

speeds, we end up in the middle of the sheet and are you happy with

:56:26.:56:33.

that? We are looking OK. Hamilton, 3.37, Fernando Alonso 3.36. We are

:56:33.:56:44.

there or thereabouts. Quickly explain what is happening after this

:56:44.:56:49.

little pause. This is a crucial phase? We are about to see this

:56:49.:56:55.

flurry of activity as everybody puts on those softer tyres and Sebastian

:56:56.:57:00.

is about to leave the pit lane and this is really qualifying

:57:00.:57:07.

preparation. Try to get that lap in. Thank you and let's hope it goes

:57:07.:57:11.

well and hopefully we shall talk to you later? Thank you. Sebastian

:57:11.:57:25.

Vettel, as we have heard... TEAM RADIO: the track is clear. Recovery.

:57:25.:57:34.

Just a little mix-up in messages. Nico Rosberg complaining about his

:57:34.:57:40.

clutch. Very clear air. Hopefully if everything is OK with his car, he

:57:40.:57:44.

will go onto that lap. Very aggressive looking out-lap. And some

:57:44.:57:49.

weaving to get those tyres working. Yes, coming down, you have that

:57:49.:57:55.

temperature in the cars and you must keep that. You can see those tyres

:57:55.:58:02.

cooling down. Doing that weaving up to the Parabolica is at least

:58:02.:58:04.

keeping some temperature in those tyres. It does not do much to heed

:58:04.:58:10.

the tyres up any more. An important weekend for Jules Bianchi, Max

:58:10.:58:14.

Chilton has been slightly ahead but of course, he seems to be a Ferrari

:58:14.:58:22.

development driver. TEAM RADIO: work hard on this front tyres. -- those

:58:22.:58:33.

front tyres. They will put the brake balance to the front. So on the

:58:33.:58:40.

out-lap, he will do all about winding and they will be getting

:58:40.:58:44.

very hot. And on the way up to Parabolica, they will cool down

:58:44.:58:50.

again. This typical view, they are tripping over each other, waiting

:58:50.:58:54.

for six minutes and they will have this line of London buses. All

:58:54.:59:00.

arriving at once. That is the fault of the team and not the drivers.

:59:00.:59:01.

arriving at once. That is the fault That really annoys me! Kimi

:59:01.:59:03.

Raikkonen, clear air. Not too many That really annoys me! Kimi

:59:03.:59:10.

other cars around him and in that shot is both Ferrari car is with

:59:10.:59:20.

each other. I am not sure if he is on a timed lap? The understeer was

:59:20.:59:28.

just horrendous. If you can get those tyres to work on the first

:59:28.:59:31.

flying lap, that will be very interesting. Sebastian Vettel, one

:59:31.:59:37.

that split, not a huge difference between hard and medium yesterday.

:59:37.:59:39.

that split, not a huge difference Let us see what that difference will

:59:39.:59:50.

be this time. 1:24. That is tidy. And he is coming towards the second

:59:50.:59:56.

track when. It is down to that first section, you must accept the fact

:59:56.:59:59.

that you are losing speed and he is up. You will lose speed on Main

:00:00.:00:05.

straight because tyres have got more grip and the speed goes away and the

:00:05.:00:08.

tyres are not as good through Parabolica. Don't panic because the

:00:08.:00:12.

first section is not as good as it should be. This should be the

:00:12.:00:19.

fastest lap of the session so far. Sebastian Vettel comes out of the

:00:19.:00:27.

final turn. He has the five disc middle sector of anybody. --

:00:27.:00:32.

fastest. That is no quicker than yesterday. I wonder if he will do a

:00:32.:00:43.

slow lap and then another. On board here with Mark Webber. He is

:00:43.:00:48.

improving his own time. But he is not quicker than Vettel in either of

:00:48.:01:01.

the first two sectors. He can't seem to close the gap on

:01:01.:01:10.

his team-mate. Vettel gained a 10th on his medium

:01:10.:01:19.

tyre lap. It is a situation where you learn. You have only got one hit

:01:19.:01:24.

at it. You want to learn about it. If you drive it too hard, you have

:01:24.:01:30.

made a mistake. Raikkonen goes fifth in the Lotus.

:01:30.:01:42.

Ricciardo has gone sixth fastest. Hamilton, not particularly quick.

:01:42.:01:51.

He found three tenths in that lap. I don't think the Red Bull... Vettel

:01:51.:02:02.

has done a slow lap now. Mercedes are losing out on

:02:02.:02:05.

information because Rosberg is unable to take part with his car

:02:05.:02:10.

split in half. They are losing valuable knowledge and experience

:02:10.:02:11.

here. This is a slow lap at the moment. He

:02:11.:02:23.

may stay out there. One or two drivers might do another lap and see

:02:23.:02:27.

if they get a bit more speed. He crosses the line. That was five or

:02:27.:02:32.

six seconds off the pace of a quick lap.

:02:32.:02:38.

It lets the tyres balance. You have to use the brakes hard, save the

:02:38.:02:46.

tyres. This second lab is definitely the one to be on. Somebody is going

:02:46.:02:51.

to have to think about this. I have got a tweet to bring you later. We

:02:51.:02:59.

will bring new that later. We will wait for that!

:02:59.:03:07.

Vettel has gone fastest. For once, you can see the back of the Red Bull

:03:07.:03:13.

sliding. But it slide so dutifully that there was no way he had to lift

:03:13.:03:20.

off the throttle. -- but it slides so beautifully. It is the second

:03:20.:03:28.

time lap on medium tyres that seems to be the one. 24.3 committee is

:03:28.:03:31.

quicker a game. -- 24.3, he is to be the one. 24.3 committee is

:03:31.:03:38.

quicker again. The tyre is definitely better on

:03:38.:03:49.

that first lap. But the car doesn't have the balance.

:03:49.:03:57.

Mark Webber in proves again, but he is still third. -- improves.

:03:57.:04:04.

Grosjean complaining of no grip, he says. He sounds excited, but not in

:04:04.:04:14.

a good way. Maldonado has done another fine lap. Just watching to

:04:14.:04:24.

see what Daniel Ricciardo can do. What is intriguing is there are cars

:04:24.:04:33.

down to 11th from fifth who have done a 1.25 something. The different

:04:33.:04:40.

is miniscule. Hamilton has now gone forth. That is a better effort for

:04:40.:04:50.

Mercedes. It is still about four tenths off of what Sebastian Vettel

:04:50.:04:55.

is doing. Around here, you are 70% on for

:04:55.:05:00.

throttle. The drive is a passenger for 70% of this lap. -- the driver.

:05:00.:05:11.

So much is down to the package of engine and how much the car -- drag

:05:11.:05:19.

the car is producing. It is well balanced between the manufacturer is

:05:19.:05:23.

in terms of performance here. Let's see what Sutil does. They are

:05:23.:05:30.

struggling a bit. Di Resta is out of the rest of this session. Force

:05:30.:05:38.

India are struggling here. Bianchi has gone ahead of Max Chilton, only

:05:39.:05:46.

just. Last is Rosberg, because he wasn't able to come back out.

:05:46.:05:55.

Ricciardo, any improvement? That was a slight improvement in time. Perez

:05:55.:06:04.

has dropped up to fifth. Sergio Perez, he got it on the

:06:04.:06:08.

second lap. He was slower than Vettel. This circuit should suit

:06:08.:06:19.

them. They are not putting the aerodynamics to a critical point.

:06:19.:06:27.

I think there are some interesting signals in those times. OK, Vettel

:06:27.:06:34.

is the dominant force. But Ferrari might use tanning methods to beat

:06:34.:06:43.

him. -- tow ring. McLaren could be on for getting both cars in the top

:06:43.:06:44.

ten. Perez loves this track. He had on for getting both cars in the top

:06:44.:06:54.

a great race here last season. The anionic I only Kolarov sos. That is

:06:54.:07:00.

encouraging. -- wrote keep an eye on the Toro Rossos.

:07:00.:07:07.

Christian, give us a summary from what you have seen. Who do you see

:07:07.:07:17.

as being your closest rivals? Fernando looks pretty quick.

:07:17.:07:25.

Hamilton has shown his hand. We have seen what a strong qualifying car

:07:25.:07:33.

they have. It is the usual suspects. Is there any thought among your

:07:33.:07:43.

drivers about helping with the tow? Unlikely! Fair enough. Let's get

:07:43.:07:55.

down to the pits with Tom Clarkson. Your thoughts after that practice

:07:56.:08:00.

session? Obviously disappointed to lose Rosberg's car. We seem to have

:08:01.:08:09.

a hydraulic problem. We're just investigating it. The rest do not

:08:09.:08:12.

a hydraulic problem. We're just seem too bad.

:08:12.:08:23.

We are going to have a debrief now. Vettel looks a bit special out

:08:23.:08:35.

there. We are in the group behind. Hamilton wasn't complaining about

:08:35.:08:39.

anything serious. The lack of data from Rosberg's car, how much is it

:08:39.:08:45.

going to affect the team as a whole?

:08:45.:08:51.

It is not great. Getting the tyres in around here is not easy. You

:08:51.:08:58.

really need practice. We may have to think about his programme for

:08:58.:09:02.

qualifying to make sure we get into Q3.

:09:02.:09:07.

Will it be possible to get that time out of the first lap?

:09:07.:09:13.

It is close, actually, whether it is first, second or third lap.

:09:14.:09:29.

With the prime, it is a longer run. It can be closed between first and

:09:29.:09:33.

second. Good luck this afternoon. BEN

:09:33.:09:42.

EDWARDS: McLaren have a chance of getting into the mix. We will keep

:09:42.:09:47.

an eye on Williams, who seem to have made some progress over the course

:09:47.:09:53.

of the evening. Qualifying is going to be one mighty battle. We are

:09:53.:09:59.

looking forward to it. JENNIE GOW: Another ominous performance from

:09:59.:10:04.

Vettel. He was able to hug the curb. The

:10:04.:10:13.

other cars had to pull the car back before the straight. It did look

:10:13.:10:19.

like it was on rails. It looked easy to drive.

:10:19.:10:25.

Interesting to see the amount of Flow-Viz on the Red Bulls. Every

:10:25.:10:31.

second is an opportunity to learn. They are trying to maximise their

:10:31.:10:33.

second is an opportunity to learn. performance. They know there is a

:10:33.:10:38.

world championship at stake here. They are not letting off the

:10:38.:10:42.

throttle. I have to say that right now they are looking good, but I

:10:42.:10:47.

don't think it is cut and dried. Ferrari are getting closer. They are

:10:47.:10:54.

in the ballpark. Why do Ferrari do so few laps in comparison to, say,

:10:54.:10:59.

Red Bull? They did roughly half the number of

:10:59.:11:03.

laps. That was both drivers. They were practising stimulations for

:11:03.:11:07.

towing each other down the straights. They obviously have a

:11:07.:11:16.

different thought process on this. The key for them is going to beget

:11:16.:11:22.

in the time out of the tyre on the first lap. They really need to be in

:11:22.:11:28.

the front row of the grid. Also under pressure are Force India. It

:11:28.:11:32.

seems to be two similar incidents. Adrian Sutil had a problem on the

:11:32.:11:37.

next lap. Will they be related? Paul di Resta

:11:37.:11:45.

had a bit twitchy going into Parabolica. He went into the

:11:45.:11:54.

barrier. That was quite early to lose the rear. With Adrian Sutil

:11:54.:11:56.

later on, he spun the car. Then we lose the rear. With Adrian Sutil

:11:56.:12:01.

saw him struggling with it as well. I think the car looks an stable. It

:12:01.:12:06.

looks inconsistent. It does not look as if the drivers have much

:12:06.:12:09.

confidence in it. Another person to have a problem was

:12:09.:12:14.

Nico Rosberg. At least they could work on it during the session. How

:12:14.:12:20.

restricting is was Burke not being out there for the team? -- Rosberg.

:12:20.:12:29.

It harms here more than anywhere. With the circuit, you have to feel

:12:29.:12:34.

the changes. You have to have the confident in the car to extract the

:12:34.:12:41.

maximum in qualifying. Rosberg goes into qualifying

:12:41.:12:44.

learning what Hamilton and the opposition were doing before. From

:12:44.:12:51.

the team's point of view, that is 50% of their time gone. Lewis

:12:51.:12:56.

Hamilton was not the fastest. Normally he can pull the most out of

:12:56.:13:02.

it. Where will the Times come from

:13:02.:13:07.

today? For each team and car, it looks

:13:07.:13:13.

different. Right now, if a team can get the front tyre grip up on the

:13:13.:13:18.

first lap, they will do a quick time. If we take Vettel come his

:13:18.:13:22.

third timed lap was quicker in sector one and two, but slower in

:13:22.:13:29.

three. If he can combine that, he has got extra time in his pocket.

:13:29.:13:34.

You can play with the amount you heat of the tyres and difference

:13:34.:13:37.

between front and rear. But if somebody gets it, boy, they are

:13:37.:13:41.

going to be fast. This is Paul di Resta's car coming

:13:41.:13:49.

back. We will be back on BBC One in just an hour. Thanks for your

:13:49.:13:54.

company today. Can Hamilton make it five consecutive pole positions?

:13:54.:13:58.

Join us to find out. Thanks for watching. Goodbye.
