Silverstone. A landmark. A cause for celebration. A slice of the space

:01:10.:01:16.

age which still honours what has gone before, making this the classic

:01:17.:01:22.

of the British sporting summer. It was not always such a classic. There

:01:23.:01:30.

is a bit of prehistory. 1947, Terra Way laps of the deserted airfield, a

:01:31.:01:41.

mates' race, during which one of them ran over a sheep. The precursor

:01:42.:01:47.

to this, the latest generation of Formula One, and yet cherishing the

:01:48.:01:58.

past. The great Fangio, who won here just the once, Stirling boss, who

:01:59.:02:06.

won twice, but never hear. Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, David

:02:07.:02:13.

Coulthard. The charges, Graham Hill, and Nigel Mansell, to glory in

:02:14.:02:23.

1987. There were the pilots and the Turbos, the first and last years,

:02:24.:02:32.

but above all, the glory years. High-stakes, high-speed rivalries,

:02:33.:02:39.

and moments of kindness. A slice of the space age, anchored firmly to

:02:40.:02:47.

the earth of England. Welcome to Silverstone. The home of Formula

:02:48.:02:52.

One. It is a rather wet home today, but

:02:53.:03:07.

despite the lacklustre weather, more than 95,000 fans have congregated on

:03:08.:03:11.

this hallowed ground to watch qualifying today. The campsites are

:03:12.:03:17.

packed, all of the viewing area is loaded with an expectant crowd, who

:03:18.:03:22.

have been treated to concerts, vintage parades, Spitfire displays

:03:23.:03:28.

and, hopefully, we will all the this an epic qualifying session. Hello,

:03:29.:03:34.

welcome. Eddie and David are taking us through the weekend. This is a

:03:35.:03:41.

four-day extravaganza, and David, you were part of the vintage parade,

:03:42.:03:46.

it looked like great fun. Yes, some of the greats from the past, Jackie

:03:47.:03:55.

Stewart, a real fantastic celebration of forming one.

:03:56.:04:00.

Silverstone has the ability to do this time after time, and it

:04:01.:04:04.

embraces everything the fans want. It is a friendship Grand Prix. It

:04:05.:04:10.

allows everybody to be part of the scene. It has got a hands-on feel.

:04:11.:04:14.

allows everybody to be part of the scene. It has got a hands-on You got

:04:15.:04:18.

your hands on a pair of drumsticks! The Kaiser Chiefs were playing.

:04:19.:04:24.

Amazing, what a fantastic band, and to hear them live, they have so many

:04:25.:04:29.

big hit records, and they said, come and play with us. It is difficult to

:04:30.:04:36.

fake playing the drums! It is more difficult than you think! Looking

:04:37.:04:43.

good, not bad for 66! I do not want to be called 66! It was such great

:04:44.:04:51.

fun, I loved every minute of it. Before we really get into it, let's

:04:52.:04:56.

look back to a fortnight ago, when we made a Formula One returned to

:04:57.:05:00.

Austria, and it was a cracking weekend for Williams.

:05:01.:05:08.

Lights out, away we go, Felipe Massa getting away well, but an excellent

:05:09.:05:17.

start from Nico Rosberg, head of Valtteri Bottas. Look at Valtteri

:05:18.:05:22.

Bottas, he has got past Nico Rosberg. Lewis Hamilton charging up

:05:23.:05:30.

into fifth place. RADIO: Tell me what to do, please. A miserable

:05:31.:05:37.

weekend. Lewis Hamilton takes the place, what a lunch, racy stuff.

:05:38.:05:45.

Where is Valtteri Bottas? A fabulous stop. Where will he come out? In

:05:46.:05:54.

front of Lewis Hamilton, but behind Nico Rosberg. Daniil Kvyat has come

:05:55.:06:07.

off. RADIO: I have no breaks. It is fairly straightforward. Sergio Perez

:06:08.:06:14.

gives him space and loses momentum. That gives the opportunity for

:06:15.:06:19.

Valtteri Bottas to sweep past. Here comes Lewis Hamilton on Sergio

:06:20.:06:24.

Perez. Sergio Perez gives him plenty of space, no moving on the line.

:06:25.:06:36.

RADIO: Box, we are retiring the car. It has been a miserable weekend for

:06:37.:06:40.

Sebastian Vettel. Very unlucky with the reliability of his car. RADIO:

:06:41.:06:53.

Push hard now. It is Hammer time. The battle between Nico Hulkenberg

:06:54.:06:56.

and Daniel Ricciardo still going on. It is going to be victory for Nico

:06:57.:07:02.

Rosberg in Austria. He wins the Austrian Grand Prix by 1.9 seconds,

:07:03.:07:08.

from Lewis Hamilton. Third place goes to Valtteri Bottas, his first

:07:09.:07:16.

podium. Nico Rosberg's perfect array, he

:07:17.:07:19.

extends his lead over Lewis Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton has now had

:07:20.:07:27.

to technical failures this season. It is a long way back down to third

:07:28.:07:34.

place. Daniel Ricciardo is the only non-Mercedes driver to win a race

:07:35.:07:42.

this season. Already at the halfway point, Mercedes seem to have the

:07:43.:07:47.

construct is' championship in their grasp. They have a whopping margin

:07:48.:07:51.

over Red Bull, who have been the Kings for the last four years.

:07:52.:07:56.

Ferrari are way off the pace, would arguably punching above their

:07:57.:08:07.

weight. It was a really intriguing weekend in Austria, a great event

:08:08.:08:11.

again, Williams did really well, but some speculation they could have

:08:12.:08:16.

done better. They will feel there was a missed opportunity. But it is

:08:17.:08:21.

easy to be clear in hindsight. But it represents a positive step

:08:22.:08:25.

forward for the team ahead of this home Grand Prix. All those people

:08:26.:08:32.

there, about to go the pit lane wall, this is the hands-on

:08:33.:08:35.

experience that we are talking about. Wrapping up the William

:08:36.:08:41.

story, it is definitely a step in the right direction. Yes, they have

:08:42.:08:45.

had a tidy car, and they feel that the season has been one of missed

:08:46.:08:52.

opportunities. They need to be able to think like winners again. If they

:08:53.:08:59.

had the previous year's experience, they would have done really well.

:09:00.:09:04.

They would have capitalised more on the product that they have. They

:09:05.:09:09.

have a sensational car, sensational drivers and a sensational engine,

:09:10.:09:14.

and they should have won a couple of races by now. It was a great weekend

:09:15.:09:20.

for Mercedes. I do believe the rest of the grid is catching up with them

:09:21.:09:25.

ever so slightly. We will see how close they are getting, especially

:09:26.:09:29.

in this changeable weather. Plenty of news, that catch up.

:09:30.:09:39.

Jenson Button has been stealing the headlines, but not for the right

:09:40.:09:46.

reasons. Ron Dennis has accused him of not trying hard enough this

:09:47.:09:50.

season, but that is an accusation that Jenson Button believes applies

:09:51.:09:55.

to the whole team. We need to try harder, every day you have got to do

:09:56.:09:59.

a better job, or else you will not catch the leading guys. We have all

:10:00.:10:04.

got to look at ourselves and give it our all, that is the only way we can

:10:05.:10:09.

get back to the front. With the Mercedes cars dominating, the latest

:10:10.:10:13.

rumours are that voters will switch from Renault to the three pointed

:10:14.:10:20.

star next year. Everybody is looking at the best option possible. So far,

:10:21.:10:25.

we have no strength in a straight line. I would love to have a

:10:26.:10:33.

Mercedes next year. One change that is on the cards next year is a

:10:34.:10:38.

change to the safety car rules. There will be standing restarts,

:10:39.:10:42.

something that the drivers have not welcomed with open arms. The leader

:10:43.:10:50.

suffers a massive deficit, a potential big disadvantage. But the

:10:51.:10:55.

FIA maintains it is to spice up the show. This supposition is that the

:10:56.:11:02.

start is the most exciting part, and if you can have a second one, it

:11:03.:11:07.

might introduce more on credibility and excitement and likelihood of

:11:08.:11:13.

places changing. That was the reason it was done. It is all change at

:11:14.:11:18.

Caterham, days after announcing that his team is not for sale, Tony

:11:19.:11:22.

Fernandez has sold it to a consortium of investors. One man

:11:23.:11:28.

involved is Colin Collins. I have been asked to help and turn it

:11:29.:11:36.

around. The company made more progress in the last three days than

:11:37.:11:39.

in the last two years. I am convinced about this. It is crucial

:11:40.:11:46.

to be successful of the track to be successful on the track. Without off

:11:47.:11:52.

the track success, you will never reach any success on the track. The

:11:53.:11:57.

target is clear, this team is to reach the 10th position in the

:11:58.:12:00.

championship. We thought that what the latest, but

:12:01.:12:05.

it has been confirmed that Lotus will run a Mercedes engine next

:12:06.:12:09.

year, big news, and not great for Red Bull. Red Bull were never in the

:12:10.:12:15.

running to get the Mercedes engine, they are looking at bolstering the

:12:16.:12:18.

strength of the Renault and developing the engine when the

:12:19.:12:24.

freeze is opened up. But it is a clear statement of intent from

:12:25.:12:29.

Lotus, they have been struggling. They have had a terrible start to

:12:30.:12:34.

the year, and an indication they are taking this seriously, it will help

:12:35.:12:39.

focus the minds of the engineers and bring investment. Quite a lot of

:12:40.:12:43.

loud noise, it is these guys that you can hear, these beautiful old

:12:44.:12:50.

cars, another parade for the fans. We concede Jackie Stewart, Damon

:12:51.:12:55.

Hill, that is the Lotus his father used to drive, Paul Stewart, a great

:12:56.:13:02.

opportunity for Formula One and the fans here to celebrate the history

:13:03.:13:08.

of the last 50 years of racing here. It is beautiful, watching those

:13:09.:13:11.

cars. There was some talk about the safety car, the new rules. It has

:13:12.:13:17.

not been popular with drivers or fans. We have heard the view from

:13:18.:13:25.

the FIA, what is the downside? You have another incident immediately

:13:26.:13:28.

after a safety car, there could be another shunt. When the drivers

:13:29.:13:36.

start, they are fresh, sharp, ready, and if the safety car came after 60

:13:37.:13:41.

laps at Monaco and you have another restart, they are dehydrated,

:13:42.:13:46.

fatigued and you lose performance. The fact we are talking about it is

:13:47.:13:50.

helping to keep Formula One in the news. If it gives a controversial

:13:51.:13:56.

result, in that the leader does not get the result, we will talk about

:13:57.:14:01.

it even more. And the tyre temperatures as well. The other

:14:02.:14:06.

thing was Caterham. Eddie Jordan is with the new team principal.

:14:07.:14:10.

thing was Caterham. Eddie Jordan is Indeed. Welcome to the club, we know

:14:11.:14:16.

you as a driver, tell us, what will you do to turn this team around? It

:14:17.:14:25.

is a big job. The most important thing is we have to make the team as

:14:26.:14:30.

efficient as possible. I have been here a couple of days and looked at

:14:31.:14:35.

the factory, it is amazing what they have in resources, equipment and

:14:36.:14:39.

machinery. They need to turn it around, it is not going to be easy,

:14:40.:14:45.

but I am ready. You are, but have you identified anything that you

:14:46.:14:53.

feel can be an instant fix? I have something in my mind, but it is too

:14:54.:14:59.

early. What is your target? IG targeting eighth in the

:15:00.:15:01.

championship, 10th in the championship? The most important

:15:02.:15:12.

thing is to try to get in the championship and fight. To get all

:15:13.:15:19.

the upgrades done and hopefully we can find some upgrades. Also the

:15:20.:15:31.

aerodynamics. It is a big challenge. A lot of surprises every day. You

:15:32.:15:44.

would have to beat Sauber or Marussia. What do you have on your

:15:45.:15:52.

sites. We will try just to do the most we can do. It is not easy. We

:15:53.:15:56.

have seen the performance of the car and we have to work very hard. I

:15:57.:16:01.

will try everything possible to change something.

:16:02.:16:08.

So changes at the back of the grid. They do have some work to do.

:16:09.:16:19.

Marussia do have work to do. Colin Collins is an experienced man in

:16:20.:16:22.

Formula one and motor racing so he does have that business experience.

:16:23.:16:29.

It will be interesting to see how he translates his experience to help in

:16:30.:16:33.

that team. The key thing that the team needs is not just a restructure

:16:34.:16:38.

in terms of their efficiency but they need a faster car. So I do not

:16:39.:16:43.

know if the designers have not been given the resources or if they do

:16:44.:16:51.

not have the people. Let us have a look at what is going

:16:52.:16:57.

on at Silverstone as we speak. The Williams there, Rubens Barrichello

:16:58.:17:01.

getting the chance to drive. Resetting the crowd. You get the

:17:02.:17:07.

sense if he had the chance to race a current Formula one car, he would

:17:08.:17:12.

take it. He has not quite come to terms with the fact that he is not a

:17:13.:17:19.

grand prix driver any more! Friday was to be a very special day for

:17:20.:17:23.

Susie Wolff, the first female to take part in a Grand Prix for 22

:17:24.:17:29.

years. And there was a lot of anticipation.

:17:30.:17:42.

Good morning. Nice to see you. This is a nice place you have got.

:17:43.:17:49.

I have known you a long time. It is strange that evolution from us

:17:50.:17:54.

running around as young girls wanting to be in motorsport to you

:17:55.:17:59.

driving at Silverstone. You seem measured. It has been a fantastic

:18:00.:18:09.

journey. We had a passion for motorsport and we have taken the

:18:10.:18:12.

journey this far. For me the best part is putting that helmet on and

:18:13.:18:17.

trying to get the quickest lap time you can. That is what I look forward

:18:18.:18:24.

to. The grandstands are going to be packed, does that affect you? It was

:18:25.:18:31.

in a positive way. I had so many messages of support. It is something

:18:32.:18:38.

I think is positive as opposed to extra pressure. No one puts more

:18:39.:18:50.

pressure on me than I do myself. People think Formula one is quite a

:18:51.:18:55.

chauvinistic face. When you're dealing with Sir Frank Williams,

:18:56.:19:00.

such a historic name, and you have spoken to Bernie Ecclestone as

:19:01.:19:04.

well. Do you feel that these people are backing you fully? They

:19:05.:19:10.

certainly do not make my life difficult. They remake funny

:19:11.:19:14.

comments in the media that they realise it is positive for the sport

:19:15.:19:19.

to have a female out there. I always say I'm not out to prove a point

:19:20.:19:24.

about women drivers but I'm just out there for me. It is a great

:19:25.:19:30.

opportunity for me as a driver to take the next step on my Formula one

:19:31.:19:40.

driver -- Formula one journey. The main thing that we need is that

:19:41.:19:46.

she just does a sensible job, does not try to go to quickly and is just

:19:47.:19:51.

consistent with top and able to give us feedback as to what each of the

:19:52.:19:59.

new components is doing. Williams is leading the way, to have

:20:00.:20:04.

women involved in all areas of the business. Including the very sharp

:20:05.:20:13.

end, driving the car. It gives a better balance to the sport in

:20:14.:20:25.

general. Every thing OK with the car?

:20:26.:20:48.

Susie Wolff has come to stop out track... As soon as I saw oil

:20:49.:20:55.

pressure coming up I knew that was it. That was the toughest moment.

:20:56.:20:59.

The adrenaline is running and it is certainly over.

:21:00.:21:05.

The toughest thing for me was that it was just so much fun out there. I

:21:06.:21:11.

still read a lot from today in spite of it being just a short run. We

:21:12.:21:17.

will bounce back and I need to start focusing on doing the same thing

:21:18.:21:27.

again. Heartbreaking scenes for Susie Wolff

:21:28.:21:31.

on Friday. It is just started raining here. As if the gods knew

:21:32.:21:37.

that it was so disappointing and not her fault at all. She had put in a

:21:38.:21:42.

lot of hard work to get to the session yesterday. There was

:21:43.:21:46.

pressure on her and it was just disappointing for everybody and most

:21:47.:21:51.

of all for Susie Wolff. But she handled it with good grace and

:21:52.:21:56.

dignity and she took the positives from it. She said she had a great

:21:57.:22:00.

time and is looking ahead to the next race. I'm so pleased that she

:22:01.:22:07.

just has a short time to wait. With hindsight that is good. I have raced

:22:08.:22:13.

against Susie Wolff in German touring cards and she has great

:22:14.:22:18.

speed. Women can multitask she be better placed than the male

:22:19.:22:23.

representatives to handle all the new technology! I will not make any

:22:24.:22:31.

comments on gender issues! She is a professional racing driver. And she

:22:32.:22:36.

can manage the steering wheel as well as anyone else. You mentioned

:22:37.:22:41.

Hockenheim. Are there any other opportunities for her to get in a

:22:42.:22:48.

car? Unfortunately not. That was the arrangement. We have Felipe Nasr as

:22:49.:22:54.

well who is our test driver. He is in five P1 sessions this year.

:22:55.:23:03.

Well good luck this weekend. And thank you for talking to us. We look

:23:04.:23:07.

forward to seeing Susie Wolff in Hockenheim. And of course it is

:23:08.:23:15.

difficult. To get any chance, any time in a Formula one car. And that

:23:16.:23:20.

begs the question were to the next crop of British drivers come from.

:23:21.:23:28.

Here is Tom. Well Jonathan Palmer and Alex Lynn

:23:29.:23:30.

are here and they both dominated their respective championships in

:23:31.:23:38.

the junior races. How do you convert this success into a Formula one

:23:39.:23:44.

drive next year? I have to keep doing what I'm doing. The season has

:23:45.:23:49.

gone well so far. We just have to keep it up. And I will go to speak

:23:50.:23:55.

to some Formula one teams and the aim is for me to be on the grid next

:23:56.:24:07.

year. And Alex, what about you? You can make the jump straight to

:24:08.:24:13.

Formula one. That is what I'm looking to do next year. Hopefully

:24:14.:24:23.

get Red Bull to help me get the Formula one seat. And how much

:24:24.:24:30.

interest to they take in new? Do you get Christian Horner on the

:24:31.:24:35.

telephone? They sponsor me all the way and it is in their interest to

:24:36.:24:42.

help me. It is a big thing for you to have that Red Bull backing? It

:24:43.:24:48.

is. It takes away the uncertainty. If you can win on the junior

:24:49.:24:51.

programme you are guaranteed to get a seat. The Palmer family, people

:24:52.:24:59.

say racing royalty. Does that help or hinder? A bit of both. I just do

:25:00.:25:12.

my own thing. On the weekend my dad does not really get involved, he

:25:13.:25:15.

just enjoys it and let me be my own person.

:25:16.:25:23.

The pit lane very busy with a lot of fans waiting and anticipating this

:25:24.:25:28.

qualifying session. Those boys need everything they can get. We know

:25:29.:25:31.

that the Red Bull programme works. That is great backing for Alex. But

:25:32.:25:38.

it is so difficult to get a driver in Formula one. It is difficult. But

:25:39.:25:45.

nevertheless you still have to keep pushing. You get nothing for just

:25:46.:25:51.

sitting still. These boys are all determined and also talented. There

:25:52.:25:56.

is such a great level of professionalism just underneath

:25:57.:25:59.

Formula one which I am excited about. We need to see them make the

:26:00.:26:06.

move. We have seen what so many young drivers are able to do.

:26:07.:26:13.

Normally you have natural wastage with the older drivers retiring. But

:26:14.:26:18.

there are are already a great crop of younger drivers and there's just

:26:19.:26:26.

not space for everyone. Absolutely. Max did not run in the previous free

:26:27.:26:29.

practice session this morning because of a gearbox problem. We may

:26:30.:26:35.

be able to catch up with him later. It has been a difficult year for

:26:36.:26:41.

Ferrari. The team principal has had a few months now to bed in. So we

:26:42.:26:56.

went along to pick his brains. The Ferrari just looked terrible...

:26:57.:27:04.

It has not looked good for Kimi Raikkonen and his return to

:27:05.:27:10.

Ferrari... Three months into the job Marco,

:27:11.:27:15.

what are your initial conclusions? Well it has been the most

:27:16.:27:22.

challenging three months of my life. It is an extraordinary job for an

:27:23.:27:27.

ordinary person. As a profession it is one of the most interesting

:27:28.:27:30.

challenges that the manager can have. There is no compromise. We

:27:31.:27:37.

need to bring Ferrari back to the top.

:27:38.:27:50.

There is a saying, first to build a great car you have to identify the

:27:51.:27:55.

problems with the existing car. Happy now pinpointed the problem

:27:56.:28:01.

is? First you need to pick up the right people and identify the

:28:02.:28:05.

problems and then build a performing car. We have identified the

:28:06.:28:15.

problems, the most important one. We are already working very hard.

:28:16.:28:22.

Adrian, were you disappointed he was not involved in talking with you? I

:28:23.:28:28.

do not want to comment on a saga that is becoming a soap opera. I

:28:29.:28:33.

need to focus on my team and the car and the championship.

:28:34.:28:44.

There is talk of a rift between Alonso and Ferrari. He's not winning

:28:45.:28:49.

championships and he wants to do that more. Can he do that with you?

:28:50.:28:56.

Everyone wants to win more championships and Ferrari do. I

:28:57.:29:02.

understand the frustration. But we are also frustrated. So we should

:29:03.:29:09.

not read anything into the fact that Fernando has said he is not doing

:29:10.:29:16.

the test here next week? The analysis is wrong. I'm not going to

:29:17.:29:22.

comment. Is there any hope that you can give

:29:23.:29:25.

the fans for this season or do we have to wait for next year? We will

:29:26.:29:29.

fight every race. We need to improve. Whatever we will do this

:29:30.:29:38.

year is going to be something useful and support for next year?s car. We

:29:39.:29:49.

will only be happy when we are at the top.

:29:50.:30:00.

So maybe the first time we've had the chance to talk to Marco. Quite

:30:01.:30:07.

defiant, but a strong character. Very strong. He was hugely

:30:08.:30:11.

successful as a company man in the states. So I can see what he has

:30:12.:30:17.

been brought here. Ferrari has been floundering for the last few years.

:30:18.:30:22.

They have not done a good enough job and they have too many fans all over

:30:23.:30:26.

the world, particularly in Britain, I might add. He is charged with the

:30:27.:30:32.

job of getting back up their ad is this going to be a difficult task.

:30:33.:30:37.

Looking at shots there, Kimi Raikkonen, he has pretty much been

:30:38.:30:44.

invisible this season. He is one of those drivers that you cannot ever

:30:45.:30:49.

criticise or the fans make it clear they are not happy. In his career he

:30:50.:30:53.

has had exceptional speed. I think he has blown a bit hot and cold and

:30:54.:31:01.

this is not one of his peak moments. He is looking a bit out of sorts and

:31:02.:31:05.

not happy with the new braking systems. I think he is very seat of

:31:06.:31:11.

the pants and this modern technology does not play to his strengths. Do

:31:12.:31:24.

you see him staying? I do believe that Fernando Alonso is not happy.

:31:25.:31:29.

He wants to win more championships. He would like to do it with

:31:30.:31:34.

Ferrari, but he does not have to. It is a possibility that he might move

:31:35.:31:40.

to a top team next year. I have alluded to it, is there a chance

:31:41.:31:44.

that Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso could swap faces? I think it

:31:45.:31:51.

is a possibility. We would expect you to find out before anybody

:31:52.:31:55.

else! It has been a disappointing weekend so far for Williams, and how

:31:56.:32:01.

have the rest of the paddock been getting on?

:32:02.:32:10.

A dry start saw the fans out in force to support Lewis Hamilton,

:32:11.:32:14.

Jenson Button, Max Chilton and the Williams development driver, but she

:32:15.:32:21.

had development -- engine problems. Her team-mate lost it at a corner.

:32:22.:32:29.

Felipe Massa was hurt, but the team looked dejected. Daniil Kvyat had a

:32:30.:32:34.

go at copying him, but he just hung on to it. Romain Grosjean was ill at

:32:35.:32:38.

ease. Lewis Hamilton was fast with the medium tyres and set the

:32:39.:32:44.

outright pace, but he then suffered an oil pressure problem which put

:32:45.:32:47.

him out for the rest of the session, leaving Nico Rosberg to complete a

:32:48.:32:52.

race simulation on his own. Overnight rain for the third

:32:53.:32:55.

practice meant teams did minimal running. I'll caveat demonstrated

:32:56.:33:01.

how slippery it was, as did Romain Grosjean. Jules Bianchi was the only

:33:02.:33:06.

ones to make contact with the barrier. Lewis Hamilton checked out

:33:07.:33:14.

the limit button. Despite a grassy moment of his own, Sebastian Vettel

:33:15.:33:17.

headed the timesheets for the first time this year, Red Bull first and

:33:18.:33:27.

second, but with Mercedes and rape -- with Mercedes keeping their

:33:28.:33:33.

powder dry, it remains to be seen. Jules Bianchi is having a new nose

:33:34.:33:40.

put on his car. Your car has got a new gearbox going on. Just as I was

:33:41.:33:48.

pulling out of the pit lane, it gave up the ghost as soon as I went for

:33:49.:33:53.

the first gear shift. I did not go for any more, with these cars, it

:33:54.:34:00.

takes a while to get a gearbox change them, but we are looking OK.

:34:01.:34:05.

Your first laps in the wet are going to be in qualifying. Silverstone is

:34:06.:34:11.

a daring track in the dry, but in the wet, it is very high-speed, low

:34:12.:34:15.

grip, and I have had no sighting laps, so I will have to push as hard

:34:16.:34:21.

as I can and get a good lap time. We have just done a piece looking at

:34:22.:34:27.

young guys trying to break through, how difficult is it to get up here,

:34:28.:34:33.

into the top echelon? How difficult to stay here? It is very hard, there

:34:34.:34:39.

are so many youngsters around, you have to defend your position. I am

:34:40.:34:43.

23, but there are already people coming behind me. It is not an easy

:34:44.:34:51.

sport, but at the end of the day, there are only 22 seat. In

:34:52.:34:54.

football, there are thousands of players. It is hard to get into, you

:34:55.:35:00.

have to do your best to stay in. Good luck this afternoon.

:35:01.:35:08.

It is a tough school. We are interested in your views and

:35:09.:35:12.

opinions, you can tweet us. Or you can send your comments to Facebook.

:35:13.:35:19.

Let's go next door and turn our attention is to Mercedes. Everybody

:35:20.:35:25.

is talking about Lewis Hamilton, it was not his weekend last year, but

:35:26.:35:31.

is this a must win race for him this season? Does he need this one

:35:32.:35:38.

psychologically? Not for the points, he does want to claw back the

:35:39.:35:42.

deficit, but there is a long way to go. But psychologically, he would

:35:43.:35:47.

like to nail this, there is no question the crowd would be

:35:48.:35:50.

delighted, this team is based just down the road in Brackley. But it is

:35:51.:35:57.

important for Lewis Hamilton, at the moment, despite the opinion being

:35:58.:36:04.

that he has got the speed, Nico Rosberg has had an answer for

:36:05.:36:07.

everything, he has been on the podium for every Grand Prix, so it

:36:08.:36:13.

will be difficult for him. The psychological games have not worked.

:36:14.:36:18.

The last three qualifying sessions have not gone well, it has gone

:36:19.:36:25.

wrong every time, he has put so much pressure on himself, so what does he

:36:26.:36:29.

need to do today? I see a similarity, Nico Rosberg's position

:36:30.:36:36.

in Monaco, and Lewis Hamilton here. Nico Rosberg responded brilliantly

:36:37.:36:39.

by winning, a big psychological boost. I disagree with David, I

:36:40.:36:48.

believe that Lewis Hamilton has to win here, because it is his home

:36:49.:36:52.

territory, despite the fact that Nico Rosberg won last year. It is a

:36:53.:36:57.

mouthwatering opportunity for us. From Lewis Hamilton's point of view,

:36:58.:37:03.

he must get the points, because he cannot let Nico Rosberg get too far

:37:04.:37:07.

away. He has been relaxed all weekend, but we can find out what is

:37:08.:37:09.

going through his mind. Last year on the Saturday, you

:37:10.:37:18.

0.4 ahead Last year on the Saturday, you

:37:19.:37:26.

love it to be the same? I thought it was 0.5! I am going to argue over

:37:27.:37:35.

that, it is a big difference! Last year was spectacular. I remember the

:37:36.:37:44.

reception I got from the crowd, and it was crushing when we had the tyre

:37:45.:37:47.

blow out. It is Lewis Hamilton!

:37:48.:37:53.

It was more disappointing because I had it therefore the fans, we are

:37:54.:37:57.

going to do this. No chance for Adrian Sutil.

:37:58.:38:04.

Equally, an amazing feeling when I could get back up to fourth place.

:38:05.:38:10.

Lewis Hamilton takes fourth place. Coming from an exploded tyre, this

:38:11.:38:15.

is a tremendous drive. It is another opportunity, who knows

:38:16.:38:21.

how it will go? How much would you like to win here for the fans and to

:38:22.:38:27.

get momentum back on your side and fight for those points in the

:38:28.:38:30.

championship? So many aspects of what would make it even more

:38:31.:38:34.

special, trying to get the momentum back, I had it for a while. I did it

:38:35.:38:42.

before, there is no reason why I cannot catch up again. There was a

:38:43.:38:48.

lot of talk after Monaco, a lot of emotions running high.

:38:49.:38:56.

Yes! Do you think that has been a turning

:38:57.:39:00.

point? Undoubtedly. Nico Rosberg was talking about trying to change the

:39:01.:39:09.

order, making sure he broke down the momentum, and he did so. Would you

:39:10.:39:14.

rather be in a battle with your team-mate with somebody else? What

:39:15.:39:19.

is easier? I would imagine it is easier battling with somebody else.

:39:20.:39:24.

Because then you and your team-mate can help. But when it is you and

:39:25.:39:30.

your team-mate, you almost need somebody to be in between you to

:39:31.:39:35.

take points away from the other. Lewis Hamilton has lost it! That is

:39:36.:39:39.

the end of that lap. We do not often see mistakes from

:39:40.:39:42.

you, but what about qualifying in Austria? You are constantly under

:39:43.:39:48.

pressure. If any driver says there is no pressure, they are talking

:39:49.:39:54.

rubbish. There is pressure there, from yourself, from the team. We are

:39:55.:40:04.

racing for 18, some teams have almost 1000 people. You want to win

:40:05.:40:07.

the championship more than anything. There is pressure, but I cannot

:40:08.:40:19.

pinpoint exactly why mistakes come along.

:40:20.:40:28.

Lewis Hamilton comes through to win the Chinese Grand Prix! He takes his

:40:29.:40:39.

hat-trick of victories in 2014! We know that you have got the speed,

:40:40.:40:46.

but do you have the psychological toughness for what it is going to

:40:47.:40:50.

take this season? It is going to need both. It is going to be a

:40:51.:40:53.

combination of different things. From where I am, staying focused,

:40:54.:41:01.

not losing energy, keeping the spirit up, utilising the

:41:02.:41:04.

opportunity, because we have the chance to win the championship this

:41:05.:41:06.

year, it is just which one of us will do it.

:41:07.:41:07.

That is the million-dollar question, which one direct? Will it be Lewis

:41:08.:41:08.

Hamilton or Nico Rosberg? Nico Rosberg is currently leading the

:41:09.:41:13.

championship. What did you think of him in that interview? He was

:41:14.:41:15.

talking about the momentum that Nico Rosberg stole from him, but it was

:41:16.:41:24.

like he had moved on, he seemed cool, calm and collected. He comes

:41:25.:41:29.

across as a great ambassador for the sport. What he is doing, how he goes

:41:30.:41:36.

about it, he seems content. He has made a huge difference to this team.

:41:37.:41:41.

His inclusion made this team at test today. Well done to him, I am glad

:41:42.:41:48.

he is relaxed and calm, because a relaxed Lewis Hamilton, in this

:41:49.:41:52.

frame of mind, I would not want to fight against him, he is in very

:41:53.:41:57.

good shape. He looks sharp, but he is more susceptible to emotional

:41:58.:42:03.

roller-coaster is down Nico Rosberg. It is not necessarily linked to how

:42:04.:42:09.

it is going on the track, it is what is going on in his life. It will be

:42:10.:42:16.

a tricky qualifying. Do you render the interview when he said he wanted

:42:17.:42:20.

to break him down mentally, and Nico Rosberg said, good luck? They are

:42:21.:42:25.

different, we know that, they look at things differently. Because Lewis

:42:26.:42:33.

Hamilton is emotional, if he gets the pole position and a victory this

:42:34.:42:37.

weekend, would it must be more than a race injury? Yes, I think it would

:42:38.:42:43.

be an emotional victory, not just because it is Britain, but because

:42:44.:42:47.

he would eat into the 29 point deficit. But to break Nico Rosberg

:42:48.:42:54.

down mentally, he is to articulate and intelligent and knowledgeable,

:42:55.:43:01.

because they have known each other for so long, he has picked the wrong

:43:02.:43:05.

person. Does he need to concentrate on his own game? Of course, he knows

:43:06.:43:11.

he has the ultimate speed, but doing what he did, that was a mistake.

:43:12.:43:17.

Another mistake was one he put his hand on him and Nico Rosberg moved

:43:18.:43:22.

it away. There were a couple of things that we looked for. I think

:43:23.:43:27.

it would be better concentrating on himself, he can win, there is no

:43:28.:43:33.

doubt. The pressure is on Nico Rosberg, because he is not a world

:43:34.:43:36.

champion. That might be his saving grace. I think the pressure is

:43:37.:43:42.

mounting on Lewis Hamilton, I do not think this weekend is the decider,

:43:43.:43:46.

but Nico Rosberg has the comfort zone of more than one victory. He

:43:47.:43:50.

cannot finish this race and still be leading the championship. I do not

:43:51.:43:55.

think the pressure is more on Nico Rosberg. The double points at the

:43:56.:43:59.

end could play into Lewis Hamilton's hands. It is double

:44:00.:44:05.

points in the last race, which would make it hugely exciting. The racing

:44:06.:44:12.

on the track is exciting, and the psychology is just as exciting. We

:44:13.:44:18.

will see if Lewis Hamilton will win. We have heard from Lewis Hamilton

:44:19.:44:22.

and Max Chilton, there is one British Trident we have not heard

:44:23.:44:25.

from yet. Gentlemen, start your engines. Can I have a mirror to see

:44:26.:44:53.

how good I look? Look at us! I might even hit second gear. We are

:44:54.:45:06.

coming through! When did you love affair start with

:45:07.:45:15.

bikes? I had a little bike to play around with on the weekends. He

:45:16.:45:19.

watched me around with on the weekends. He

:45:20.:45:26.

said that is enough, let us go on four wheels. He made a wise

:45:27.:45:37.

decision! How do you feel about the British Grand Prix? You have

:45:38.:45:45.

travelled the world. I love it. When I was a kid the race that you dream

:45:46.:45:52.

of is the British Grand Prix. I had one chance, in 2010. Both wheel fell

:45:53.:46:03.

off. Yes. This year for me will be a very special race, emotional, after

:46:04.:46:11.

the old boy passed away in January. Walking out of the hotel in the

:46:12.:46:15.

morning, he was always late. Always the last one. I really miss that.

:46:16.:46:27.

I hope you do not mind, I have booked some tea with her Majesty the

:46:28.:46:36.

Queen. She is in, the flag is up! I have never been to Buckingham

:46:37.:46:47.

Palace. I met her at one time and she said I'd do not know how you do

:46:48.:46:54.

it, racing at breakneck speeds! You cannot help but feel a chartered,

:46:55.:47:00.

all these union Jack flags. -- feel patriotic. Keep your eyes on the

:47:01.:47:28.

road! The one that you are riding sounds a

:47:29.:47:34.

bit like a modern Formula one car. Mine sounds old school.

:47:35.:47:45.

How does Silverstone rate in terms of physical demands? It is nonstop,

:47:46.:48:10.

there are not many slow sections. Ourselves! Riding Harleys. It is

:48:11.:48:21.

Jensen Button, Formula one megastar! The back know who he is.

:48:22.:48:37.

There is Big Ben. It makes you proud! To be British! Come on! # God

:48:38.:48:58.

save our gracious queen... You do not even get me into any

:48:59.:49:15.

trouble. Here come the police! I apologise for any attempts at

:49:16.:49:23.

singing. Jensen was in good form. He is in a good place with his driving.

:49:24.:49:28.

His position in the team. There has been speculation in the media about

:49:29.:49:33.

his future. But he knows that he does have the skills and these

:49:34.:49:38.

conditions could be made for him. We spoke about Ron saying that he

:49:39.:49:44.

needed to pull his socks up. Is that just his way of motivating people? I

:49:45.:49:50.

never heard him publicly say anything and I gave him plenty of

:49:51.:49:55.

opportunity with some of the mistakes I made! Perhaps just now he

:49:56.:50:03.

needs to feel that people should get a hurry on. And really get results.

:50:04.:50:16.

Everyone talking about the situation with Jensen Button and what Ron came

:50:17.:50:23.

out with, outwardly criticising him and saying he needs to try more. Can

:50:24.:50:29.

you add any light to this? Just to put it in perspective, a lot of

:50:30.:50:35.

people do no wrong. An extremely successful team principal and

:50:36.:50:41.

chairman and group executive. He is a pushy guy, that is the nature of

:50:42.:50:47.

the beast. He did exactly the same thing to Ayrton Senna. He has made

:50:48.:50:55.

comments about Jensen. And he would say the same thing to Eric and to

:50:56.:51:06.

me. That is the nature of the beast. But you have lost Alonso and Lewis

:51:07.:51:09.

Hamilton all through the same kind of things. These drivers saying that

:51:10.:51:15.

Ron was too pushy. Is there a message there? I think the drivers

:51:16.:51:22.

had successful times with us but no team stands still. The drivers want

:51:23.:51:29.

to move around. Lewis and Adrian had been with us for a long time.

:51:30.:51:36.

Nothing stands still. I do not look at it with that perspective at all

:51:37.:51:43.

but I like your loaded question! US sixth in the constructors

:51:44.:51:48.

championship. 1.8 seconds behind the fastest car in qualifying yesterday.

:51:49.:51:56.

That is not McLaren style? It is not and it is not good enough. A lot of

:51:57.:52:00.

us are working very hard behind the scenes. I was asked about these

:52:01.:52:06.

regulations and if it clamps down on levels of innovation. Mercedes had

:52:07.:52:12.

given a masterclass in how that can be done so there is plenty of

:52:13.:52:17.

opportunity. And it is not easy otherwise everyone else would be

:52:18.:52:21.

doing the same thing. If you look at the last four or five races the grid

:52:22.:52:26.

is moving forwards. And Mercedes will have to watch carefully if they

:52:27.:52:30.

are to hold onto that lead. But the grid is going to catch them. Whether

:52:31.:52:38.

this year or next, it is coming. And if you do not establish what is

:52:39.:52:42.

wrong with the car, how are you going to change it next year? The

:52:43.:52:50.

Honda thing, it is fantastic news for Formula one and for us that

:52:51.:52:54.

whatever the changes in the regulation, it has been good enough

:52:55.:52:59.

to introduce Honda back into motorsport. Fiercely competitive in

:53:00.:53:07.

Moto GP. It runs through their blood so we are delighted to be racing

:53:08.:53:11.

with them. In terms of the work that we have to do, the product in a

:53:12.:53:15.

garage, the issue is not the product but how we improve our organisation.

:53:16.:53:20.

We are working really hard and going through a lot of internal

:53:21.:53:24.

restructuring. We are going to make some changes and make no bones about

:53:25.:53:36.

it, we are coming back. I am with Alan now as we can talk

:53:37.:53:41.

about what is going to happen on track today. A little bit of light

:53:42.:53:48.

rain. It was a bad session this morning and looks like it could be

:53:49.:53:51.

the same thing again. The cloud is higher but it does have that damp

:53:52.:53:57.

feeling and the rain will be on and off for the rest of the afternoon.

:53:58.:53:59.

It will be between the intermediate and perhaps the full wet tyres. The

:54:00.:54:06.

moment on track is going to be critical. If you're the last to

:54:07.:54:09.

cross the line. There could be some scalps in this one. We always say it

:54:10.:54:16.

could be a more level playing field. But the wet weather could help some

:54:17.:54:23.

people? I think it can but it is more opportunistic, making the right

:54:24.:54:28.

decisions, not making mistakes. We have had the situation where this

:54:29.:54:33.

morning there were a lot of mistakes on track. People running wide comic

:54:34.:54:39.

even Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel were in that situation. And

:54:40.:54:45.

that was something that most of them got out of, but not everyone did.

:54:46.:54:50.

Sebastian Vettel coming through brackets, he got onto the wetter

:54:51.:54:55.

part of the circuit. It is not porous, the water does not drain

:54:56.:55:01.

away. And even in the last corner Romain Grosjean as soon as he

:55:02.:55:06.

touched the paintwork it snapped sideways on him. That was a critical

:55:07.:55:14.

moment. He did very well to save that. Right now he was very quick

:55:15.:55:22.

with his reaction. And at the same time he was going down the years. So

:55:23.:55:28.

very quick reactions. Adrian Sutil coming down. He did quite a lot of

:55:29.:55:34.

laps this morning going wide and then coming straight through the

:55:35.:55:38.

gravel. He was good to get out of the gravel. He had to keep up some

:55:39.:55:44.

momentum. This is a guy fighting to get out of the last part of

:55:45.:55:51.

qualifying as is Jules Bianchi. For these guys they are fighting for the

:55:52.:55:55.

opportunity to get out of Q1 and into Q2. This could be at scalp for

:55:56.:56:03.

them. Once you knock a break you lose 25%

:56:04.:56:09.

of your braking efficiency. You have got to come off the brake. But round

:56:10.:56:14.

here it is so slippery. The crossover point between the

:56:15.:56:18.

intermediate tyres and the wet tyres, it is difficult to say. So

:56:19.:56:23.

you're going to see people being very careful not to make mistakes.

:56:24.:56:31.

We can have a closer look at the track. One of the Silverstone

:56:32.:56:41.

masters, the brilliant Mark Webber. Silverstone is like a second home to

:56:42.:56:45.

me. I have been racing here for almost 20 years. And I have had a

:56:46.:56:55.

bit of success along the way. Mark Webber takes victory for the

:56:56.:57:00.

second time... Just a stunning lap.

:57:01.:57:10.

The alp lap is crucial. By the direction of that flag I know

:57:11.:57:15.

whether I have the wind on the nose of the car. Then I can break

:57:16.:57:20.

extremely late. When you have got the wind behind you have to be very

:57:21.:57:26.

careful. This is one of the fastest corners

:57:27.:57:30.

in Formula one. The first corner at Silverstone. You need to be brave

:57:31.:57:37.

and trust in the car. The turning point is roundabout

:57:38.:57:42.

here. You can see the byline, how low we are. Opens up a little bit on

:57:43.:57:48.

the exit. You have got to get this corner right.

:57:49.:57:59.

Still in the first set. The first big heavy stock on the lap. You need

:58:00.:58:05.

to be deep on the brakes. You do not have two prioritise too far on that.

:58:06.:58:10.

You can use the camera on the apex for positioning. It is an important

:58:11.:58:18.

part of the lap to get everything right.

:58:19.:58:24.

In my opinion this is the heart of Formula one. Maggots, very fast.

:58:25.:58:32.

Super rewarding for the drivers. On the left you can see the bank. One

:58:33.:58:38.

of the best places in the world to watch the cars come through. It is

:58:39.:58:43.

all about positioning, getting yourself ready. And probably the

:58:44.:58:47.

most important corner on track. You've got to do so many things

:58:48.:58:51.

right to get the lap time in your favour. Then the last right-hander.

:58:52.:59:00.

If you get all that right then and lap time will be very important for

:59:01.:59:04.

you. Those are some of the key ingredients for a fast qualifying

:59:05.:59:09.

time at Silverstone. Be brave, understand the wind and trust in the

:59:10.:59:15.

car. This is a track that we love driving on. They do not make them

:59:16.:59:21.

like this any more. The guys love it and I do as well.

:59:22.:59:29.

Please to have you with us at this one pre-, Mark Webber. There will

:59:30.:59:36.

need to be quick decisions today. 20 minute sessions. Probably five or

:59:37.:59:42.

six time-lapse for the teams to get the feel of it. Q3 could be

:59:43.:59:45.

difficult conditions. They're under pressure. Who is going to be in pole

:59:46.:59:58.

position? Daniel Ricciardo. Q1 coming up. Here it is.

:59:59.:00:16.

Straddling the borders of Northamptonshire and Bucks,

:00:17.:00:21.

Silverstone puts cars and drivers through their paces with some of the

:00:22.:00:23.

most challenging corners in the world. Qualifying brings us to the

:00:24.:00:29.

former airfield where thousands upon thousands of fans have gathered to

:00:30.:00:35.

CPD generation of cars compete on UK soil for the first time. Both the

:00:36.:00:40.

power unit and chassis is will get a work-out on this 3.6 mile layout.

:00:41.:00:47.

The first sector, introduced in 2010, the second sector, the fast

:00:48.:00:55.

corner. And the final sector, culminating in the long

:00:56.:00:59.

right-hander, where the clock stops at the end of the lap. Lewis

:01:00.:01:03.

Hamilton took pole position last year by nearly half a second over

:01:04.:01:08.

his Mercedes team-mate, Nico Rosberg, and he could do with that

:01:09.:01:12.

again today to begin the process of narrowing the gap in the

:01:13.:01:16.

championship. Conditions are going to make life difficult, and it could

:01:17.:01:20.

change the way we see cars running throughout the session. They will

:01:21.:01:25.

want to get out there quickly, there is still a fairly high risk of rain

:01:26.:01:30.

throughout the remaining part of the next hour. That is the thing about

:01:31.:01:37.

this open airfield, you can get local weather patterns that are not

:01:38.:01:41.

even showing up on the radar. Nobody will want to take a risk in setting

:01:42.:01:53.

their too long. It can help drive the line in the first session when

:01:54.:01:56.

all the cars are on the track, but do you take the risk? I would not.

:01:57.:02:02.

Sebastian Vettel was fastest this morning, but Nico Rosberg and

:02:03.:02:09.

Fernando Alonso did not bother to do a timed lap. Daniel Ricciardo is

:02:10.:02:16.

above Sebastian Vettel in the championship and has beaten him in

:02:17.:02:19.

qualifying this year, so Sebastian Vettel is trying to reclaim some

:02:20.:02:25.

ground. Nico Hulkenberg up in the points, but Force India are not

:02:26.:02:31.

going so quickly this weekend. Others to watch, Kimi Raikkonen, he

:02:32.:02:38.

has been some way off the pace of Fernando Alonso this year, but

:02:39.:02:42.

rarely has he been out qualified here, so we will see how he gets on

:02:43.:02:48.

today. The helmet of Jenson Button, the pink helmet, which is to pay

:02:49.:02:56.

respects to his father, who passed away earlier this year. Coming back

:02:57.:02:59.

to these damp conditions and who away earlier this year. Coming back

:03:00.:03:05.

they favour... Some of the fans showing their support. The

:03:06.:03:09.

conditions might help teams like Sauber, who have qualified to get

:03:10.:03:16.

both cars through the first part of qualifying's who have struggled to

:03:17.:03:22.

get both cars through. Taking big risks this morning. Nico Rosberg

:03:23.:03:28.

scrolling through some of the settings on the steering wheel.

:03:29.:03:32.

Mercedes leading the constructors' point very confidently over Red

:03:33.:03:37.

Bull. Ferrari third, Force India fourth, but Williams are bearing

:03:38.:03:45.

down on them. Williams have had a difficult start to this weekend, can

:03:46.:03:51.

they put that behind them and try to challenge near different? We are

:03:52.:03:54.

expecting Red Bull to be the nearest challengers to Mercedes. The

:03:55.:04:00.

conditions may change that, but Red Bull like these past, flowing

:04:01.:04:05.

circuit. They were pretty strong in Barcelona, attract similar to this.

:04:06.:04:10.

Max Chilton's car is fired up. He is on the intermediate tyre. He is

:04:11.:04:16.

heading out pretty quickly. We still have a queue seconds before the

:04:17.:04:22.

green light comes on. That is his goal, as well as doing an

:04:23.:04:29.

installation lap, knowing that you have got a five place penalty, it is

:04:30.:04:34.

a sobering thought, but normally Marussia have been towards the back

:04:35.:04:38.

of the grid anyway. Fans are getting a better view by leaning over. This

:04:39.:04:45.

is something that I think sets Silverstone apart, the campsite. I

:04:46.:04:49.

felt for them when the rain was bucketing down last night, I

:04:50.:04:54.

thought, I would not want to be in a tent! There were some dumb people

:04:55.:04:59.

around, but they do not care, they are here for Formula One -- there

:05:00.:05:07.

were some damp people around. The first session is underway, 18

:05:08.:05:13.

minutes. To get into the top 16, you progress into the next stage of

:05:14.:05:17.

qualifying. Marussia, Caterham and Sauber are the main teams who could

:05:18.:05:23.

get dropped. You have got to get the timing right, especially when track

:05:24.:05:27.

conditions are changing like this. Tom, you have been talking to some

:05:28.:05:32.

of the engineers, they have an eye on the weather, trying to plan a

:05:33.:05:36.

different approach to qualifying today. Yes, to quote a couple of the

:05:37.:05:44.

engineers, it is situation awareness. The conditions have

:05:45.:05:51.

changed quite a lot since the final practice session this morning, the

:05:52.:05:56.

wind has changed direction, it is now a tailwind going into the first

:05:57.:06:00.

corner, and it is harder, and it will bring in some rain. It is

:06:01.:06:05.

raining in Bicester, 20 miles away. As Mark Webber said, they will be

:06:06.:06:12.

looking at the flag on top of the clubhouse to see what the wind is

:06:13.:06:15.

doing, because it makes such a difference. So many of the teams

:06:16.:06:20.

live around here, Mercedes down the road, Red Bull, Lotus, I would

:06:21.:06:25.

suspect they have family members sending messages, I am bringing

:06:26.:06:30.

suspect they have family members washing in, it is getting a bit

:06:31.:06:34.

wet! I am sure they can keep an eye on it! Kamui Kobayashi out on the

:06:35.:06:42.

Caterham. All of those out so far are on the intermediate tyres, there

:06:43.:06:46.

is no need for the full wet tyres, because there is no standing water.

:06:47.:06:50.

It will be interesting to see the lap times. 1:52 was the fastest this

:06:51.:06:56.

morning, but the track could be in better shape at the moment. You

:06:57.:07:03.

mentioned Adrian Sutil was going well this morning, the fifth

:07:04.:07:07.

fastest, he said that time at one of the worst times in terms of the

:07:08.:07:13.

conditions. Let's try to get an idea of how much grip there is.

:07:14.:07:22.

RADIO: The track is very dry. Lewis Hamilton reporting it is pretty dry.

:07:23.:07:36.

I would have thought it was not so much of an issue. It is more a

:07:37.:07:41.

question of having the tyre in its operating window. Inevitably, there

:07:42.:07:48.

will be some damp areas, some cooling water, which will affect the

:07:49.:07:52.

slick tyres. They are taking a fairly conventional line. If it were

:07:53.:07:56.

wet, they would be taking a karting line. Going wide off the rubber as

:07:57.:08:03.

you enter the corner and cutting back to get the best acceleration. I

:08:04.:08:08.

would be surprised if anybody goes out on the slick tyres. But let's

:08:09.:08:14.

see what happens. A puff of water as they enter Beckett. You have got to

:08:15.:08:20.

be watchful of the collecting points and the curbs, because they will

:08:21.:08:24.

retain the water a little longer. The curbs can stay slippery. Around

:08:25.:08:29.

a track like this, it is so high speed in so many areas, you get used

:08:30.:08:35.

to running out onto the wide line. That can be lethal in damp

:08:36.:08:38.

conditions if you are on a slick tyre. We saw Felipe Massa had a

:08:39.:08:45.

crash yesterday, doing extensive damage to his Williams. That was

:08:46.:08:49.

through running wide on the artificial grass. The rain may be

:08:50.:08:58.

coming down more heavily. We are already four seconds faster than the

:08:59.:09:01.

pace this morning. Jules Bianchi a bit quicker. Let's go back to Tom.

:09:02.:09:08.

One of the things we need to bear in mind, the rain is starting to come

:09:09.:09:13.

down, do you set the car up for the wet or dry? It looks as though the

:09:14.:09:18.

wet -- the race tomorrow will be dry, but qualifying is important,

:09:19.:09:22.

because it is difficult to overtake in the race. Do you maximise your

:09:23.:09:28.

performance for the wet conditions, compromising before the race, or do

:09:29.:09:33.

you put all of your eggs in the race basket? The teams are not doing a

:09:34.:09:38.

completely dry setup, they are trying to get performance this

:09:39.:09:42.

afternoon. Lewis Hamilton is already going quickly, the fastest first

:09:43.:09:45.

afternoon. Lewis Hamilton is already sector. A pretty long first sector.

:09:46.:09:56.

Pretty high G loading. He is well up on the fastest time at the moment.

:09:57.:10:08.

Impressive stuff so far. He is taking a wider line. A tricky

:10:09.:10:19.

corner, because you are carrying so much momentum into a tight

:10:20.:10:27.

left-hander. Then, the reed profiled exit, out onto the finish straight.

:10:28.:10:33.

One second quicker than Daniel Ricciardo. Yes, and Nico Rosberg is

:10:34.:10:40.

one second down. He has gone through in third place. Kimi Raikkonen got

:10:41.:10:45.

out of shape in the last corner. He just about recovered. He will not be

:10:46.:10:49.

allowed to keep that time, because if all four wheels go over the white

:10:50.:10:56.

line, they will lose big-time. A couple of potential stars for the

:10:57.:11:06.

future there. RADIO: We have more rain on the pit wall. Very light,

:11:07.:11:12.

but it is raining again. In other words, get on with it, we cannot

:11:13.:11:17.

waste any opportunities! It took him a while to make his point! Do not

:11:18.:11:23.

hang around! Lewis Hamilton fastest, one second faster than Nico

:11:24.:11:31.

Rosberg on the opening run. The drivers are sensitive to any small

:11:32.:11:35.

spots of rain. Your visor is exposed to the air flow. There is a small

:11:36.:11:41.

deflector on different the chassis to take some of the turbulence over

:11:42.:11:45.

the top of the helmet, to keep some of the flies from hitting the

:11:46.:11:50.

helmet. But any spray at all from cars in front, any light rain, you

:11:51.:11:56.

will see that, and you are so sensitive to how much grip that may

:11:57.:12:00.

give or take away in certain areas. A big Formula One fan, watching from

:12:01.:12:13.

the pits. RADIO: We can go to slick tyres if we get the temperatures up.

:12:14.:12:25.

It is interesting to see that Lewis Hamilton says that slick tyres may

:12:26.:12:29.

be a prospect. Percentage-wise, that could indicate we will see some cars

:12:30.:12:35.

coming out on slick tyres soon. Kimi Raikkonen still on the

:12:36.:12:39.

intermediate. They may have some of the slick tyres with the blankets

:12:40.:12:44.

turned up higher. The risk is you start curing the rubber. You know

:12:45.:12:51.

you are going to give up that set, the teams might go out with the

:12:52.:12:58.

blankets around 85, 90 degrees, but you can put more temperature into

:12:59.:13:02.

them. They need to make sure they are in the racing line, or else they

:13:03.:13:06.

will lose temperature very quickly. Kimi Raikkonen trying to pull

:13:07.:13:12.

himself out of the drop zone. He needs to finish this lap. There is

:13:13.:13:19.

some more rain falling. It depends on how much rain we get. All four

:13:20.:13:27.

wheels inside, just about. That is quite a competitive group, he could

:13:28.:13:33.

do with more speed. Significantly slower than Fernando Alonso. Not at

:13:34.:13:41.

all comfortable. These are almost dry conditions. With it being a

:13:42.:13:47.

softer compound, it raises the car up 2.5 millimetres, which affects

:13:48.:13:50.

performance. You start to overheat the blogs, and in the first phase,

:13:51.:13:57.

you lose grip. As you can wear the block down, you can start benefiting

:13:58.:14:03.

from the softer compound. But I do not think anybody will run them down

:14:04.:14:07.

that far in this session, if it remains as is. A big oversteer. He

:14:08.:14:13.

must have had a moment of remembering yesterday morning. He

:14:14.:14:21.

has got the 200 mark on his helmet, it is his 200th Grand Prix. It will

:14:22.:14:27.

be in his mind, the incident yesterday. Extensive damage done to

:14:28.:14:34.

the Williams. He will get through into the top 16. Let's see how far

:14:35.:14:42.

up the order he goes. That is a good effort from Felipe Massa. Just a

:14:43.:14:46.

federal Fernando Alonso. Lewis Hamilton at the top. RADIO: What is

:14:47.:15:00.

the downside of going option? If it does not rain, we will not have a

:15:01.:15:08.

new set for the race. All concerned about how many tyres they have for

:15:09.:15:16.

the race itself. With seven minutes to go there is a

:15:17.:15:22.

chance that the track will get quicker. But Mercedes I think can

:15:23.:15:32.

afford to just react to that. If you know you're comfortable in these

:15:33.:15:35.

conditions to be true to the next of qualifying, there is no point

:15:36.:15:39.

scrubbing off any further tyres. Felipe Massa there but that massive

:15:40.:15:51.

slide. Another view from on-board. Fourth gear. The straight drops down

:15:52.:16:06.

slightly towards the corner. The Chancellor of the Exchequer on

:16:07.:16:11.

the right there. Some important visitors here. George Osborne

:16:12.:16:16.

getting a guided tour from Ron Dennis. Jensen Button putting on the

:16:17.:16:29.

medium tyres. Hoping that the track conditions... That reminds me of

:16:30.:16:38.

last year. Russia timed that change to the slick tyres perfectly. --

:16:39.:16:51.

Marussia. Here we are with Kobayashi. Can he keep the heat in

:16:52.:17:00.

the tyres? Trying to work the front tyres. You can just lose confidence

:17:01.:17:13.

on the slick tyres. But if you can build the heat you can really push

:17:14.:17:17.

on. Anywhere with damp patches than the tyres will lose surface

:17:18.:17:22.

temperature. This is occurring at theme. He's tyres are so sensitive.

:17:23.:17:36.

-- these tyres. Apparently there is a problem. He

:17:37.:17:43.

should have kept going there. But there is some kind of technical

:17:44.:17:47.

issue causing a problem for the Caterham. Not the tyres, something

:17:48.:17:55.

else wrong with the car, they have been reporting. Mercedes sitting

:17:56.:18:03.

ready to react if anyone heads out on the slick tyres. If you miss the

:18:04.:18:08.

window now, one fly lap could be enough. It has happened before. They

:18:09.:18:21.

cannot afford to be too complacent. The lap times can change so rapidly

:18:22.:18:24.

once the slick tyres, to temperature. Seven or eight cars now

:18:25.:18:33.

heading out on the medium tyres. Gutierrez is almost tyres and he has

:18:34.:18:39.

done a pretty good set. Mercedes now sending Rosberg out on the medium

:18:40.:18:45.

compound tyres. Ferrari, quick change of tyres down. McLaren going

:18:46.:18:57.

out on the option tyres. Button is on the slick tyres as well and has

:18:58.:19:03.

just had the fastest sector of anyone. We're watching Gutierrez now

:19:04.:19:12.

on those slick tyres. Looking pretty fast at this stage. Fastest in the

:19:13.:19:19.

middle sector of anybody. So definitely time for the slick tyres.

:19:20.:19:23.

And anyone who has set the time has got to go back out there. You have

:19:24.:19:33.

got to start again from scratch. Button on his way to being the

:19:34.:19:38.

fastest man. Then the question is how many lap you can get out of the

:19:39.:19:46.

tyres. A good lap from Max Chilton. Just a hint slower than Gutierrez.

:19:47.:19:58.

Jensen Button, he has lost a lap! All four wheels over, he will lose

:19:59.:20:07.

that lap! Felipe Massa and Sebastian Vettel in the pit. They have got to

:20:08.:20:14.

get a move on. Sebastian Vettel has just gone out. Alonso is out. Coming

:20:15.:20:22.

through the last corner. All four wheels beyond the white line. That

:20:23.:20:32.

time will be disallowed. Caterham having another issue. We briefly had

:20:33.:20:42.

a yellow flag on one section of the track. It could have been on that

:20:43.:20:48.

sector. That has been cleared away. There we go, Marek Stech backed --

:20:49.:21:04.

Ericsson. He goes through the gravel and onto

:21:05.:21:11.

the grass. A bit of gravel rash, as they like to call it in the

:21:12.:21:17.

industry. But no real damage. Nothing coming up on the screen yet

:21:18.:21:21.

about Button and his time being taken away. It has now. So his time

:21:22.:21:28.

has been deleted. So Jules Bianchi is currently fastest. On-board now

:21:29.:21:51.

with Kabila. ) in the drop zone with just over a minute to go. --

:21:52.:22:00.

Raikkonen. Hamilton starting to set the pace in the first sector. Is

:22:01.:22:06.

going to get through and who will fail to make it? Jules Verne on a

:22:07.:22:14.

lap and should be able to make it. It is all going to come down to the

:22:15.:22:30.

last few seconds. Alonso! He is in the drop zone. Does he have another

:22:31.:22:43.

issue? I wonder if there's something connecting those incidents. A lot of

:22:44.:22:48.

people go faster in that zone of course. What is Raikkonen doing? He

:22:49.:22:58.

has just come over the line. He could still get a lap in. But Alonso

:22:59.:23:03.

is out. He's not going to make it back. Sutil getting out of the car

:23:04.:23:13.

and all change here. That is also where we saw Alonso off track.

:23:14.:23:16.

Felipe Massa fighting the car all the way. There is Alonso. The

:23:17.:23:28.

session is over. Both of the Williams in the drop zone at the

:23:29.:23:31.

moment. So these are crucial wraps. And they had the yellow as well

:23:32.:23:36.

which will make it incredibly difficult. Reacting to that yellow

:23:37.:23:48.

flag. Everyone pouring back into the pits. And both Williams, they will

:23:49.:23:56.

not be into the second part of qualifying. What a turnaround. The

:23:57.:24:04.

true front row men from Austria. What has happened here. Both

:24:05.:24:09.

Williams failing to get through the first part of qualifying as both of

:24:10.:24:15.

the cars. Alonso and Raikkonen have failed to get through to the second

:24:16.:24:22.

part of qualifying. That is astonishing. A complete turnaround

:24:23.:24:29.

for Williams. Both out. And Ferrari as well. It shows a strategic error

:24:30.:24:41.

for Williams and Ferrari. Not getting the drivers out at the right

:24:42.:24:47.

time. The driver has to make sure he takes responsibility for making the

:24:48.:24:51.

call I would say. You need the information from the team of course.

:24:52.:24:57.

But bad decisions, bad day in the office. Marco Mattiacci, is he going

:24:58.:25:04.

to find someone to blame? Because that is chaotic it really should not

:25:05.:25:10.

have happened. Adrian Sutil walks back, he would have made it through

:25:11.:25:15.

but of course he has abandoned his car so will not take any further

:25:16.:25:21.

part in the qualifying. We saw those cars ahead backing up. Certainly

:25:22.:25:27.

nothing to do with Alonso. He was on his own. The gravel just about does

:25:28.:25:38.

its job. It looks as if the rain has started to fall so he corrects and

:25:39.:25:42.

goes wide. Then does he have a spin? They were caught out with rain

:25:43.:25:48.

at the back of the circuit in the closing moments. Definitely got more

:25:49.:25:58.

slippery just about section. Just caught out Alonso and several

:25:59.:26:03.

others. You had to be out of it earlier than that. And I think

:26:04.:26:11.

Williams were in the same trouble. RADIO: We are out.

:26:12.:26:24.

Unbelievable. The front row cars from Austria are out. Marussia into

:26:25.:26:36.

Q2 for the first time since Ultram. -- since Ultram. -- Belgium.

:26:37.:26:51.

Those conditions can throw it up. If you just missed that William -- that

:26:52.:26:56.

window where you need to be on the slicks. It is your worst nightmare

:26:57.:27:01.

because you cannot get the temperature of the tyres up. You're

:27:02.:27:04.

getting desperate but there is no grip on the track. It is always

:27:05.:27:10.

tricky when you have these wet conditions and then tomorrow looks

:27:11.:27:16.

like it is going to be dry. Many people will still go for dry. It is

:27:17.:27:20.

all about timing today. Getting the car out on the track at the right

:27:21.:27:27.

time. You have to focus on being on the track at the right time today. A

:27:28.:27:32.

real cat and mouse qualifying session. A shocker for some and

:27:33.:27:38.

elation for others. Marussia in particular have done remarkably

:27:39.:27:46.

well. They were on the track when the track is coming to you and take

:27:47.:27:50.

advantage of that because you will never make up the time when it is

:27:51.:27:59.

wet. It is all about timing. If they can do well in the second session

:28:00.:28:02.

who knows what would happen. But such an achievement to get through

:28:03.:28:07.

to Q2. When you have these shop changing conditions when the track

:28:08.:28:11.

was dry up pretty quickly, these guys have nothing to lose. When

:28:12.:28:17.

conditions are unstable, roll the dice a bit, but on the slick tyres.

:28:18.:28:21.

And it just rained at the right time. In that session, Q2 is a

:28:22.:28:34.

different ball game. And of course Max has a quick penalty so good news

:28:35.:28:39.

for him. He's not thinking about the gearbox at the minute! He's thinking

:28:40.:28:42.

about what it would be like to make the final qualifying. They have

:28:43.:28:47.

surprised people to get the point that they have. They are ninth in

:28:48.:28:51.

the championship and things are looking up for Russia. -- Belgium.

:28:52.:29:05.

-- Marussia. It is intermediate tyres now, the track is stable. So

:29:06.:29:11.

probably a couple of runs now on the intermediate tyres to try to get a

:29:12.:29:15.

feel for the conditions. And for Q3 they might get that little drying

:29:16.:29:24.

window again. I just had that feeling, I love

:29:25.:29:30.

Daniel Ricciardo. He is young and ambitious, he has brought a new

:29:31.:29:39.

level in my opinion to rebel. -- to Red Bull. He is a joy to watch. The

:29:40.:29:55.

cars are tricky to drive in these conditions. Toro Rosso have had a

:29:56.:30:02.

lot of friendly fire in their own team. Here is Q2. The track has

:30:03.:30:21.

become more slippery. Not all of them are on the intermediate tyres.

:30:22.:30:25.

The more Russia cars making sure that they are early out, what an

:30:26.:30:29.

opportunity for them, but it might be tough for them to get any

:30:30.:30:36.

further. It is a question of how far up the top 16 they can get. They

:30:37.:30:42.

have confidence in the car, making the option slick tyres work. But

:30:43.:30:48.

now, everybody is out on intermediates. If the rain remains

:30:49.:30:53.

constant, the drivers will be able to deliver what their potential is.

:30:54.:31:00.

It has just been updated, all of the lead group has gone out on the

:31:01.:31:05.

intermediate tyres. Lewis Hamilton not yet out, just looking at what

:31:06.:31:11.

everybody else is doing. It looks as though intermediates are the choice.

:31:12.:31:16.

It is about getting into the top ten, you will not win pole position

:31:17.:31:20.

from this session, but you will get into the top ten, and then you are

:31:21.:31:25.

in the battle for pole position. That is what Lewis Hamilton has got

:31:26.:31:29.

his mind set on. He took it last year, Nico Rosberg has had the edge

:31:30.:31:35.

in qualifying over the last couple of events. Jules Bianchi was fourth

:31:36.:31:40.

fastest overall in that first session, and Max Chilton was sixth

:31:41.:31:48.

fastest. Ferrari, both cars are out, both Williams are out, definite

:31:49.:31:53.

opportunities for the other teams to score useful points. Ferrari, third

:31:54.:31:56.

in the constructors' score useful points. Ferrari, third

:31:57.:31:59.

but not that far ahead of Force India. RADIO: Everybody is on a new

:32:00.:32:10.

intermediate. Daniel Ricciardo being chased by Max Chilton. He has got

:32:11.:32:16.

enough of a gap to watch the Red Bull. I do not know that he can stay

:32:17.:32:25.

on terms with him for very long. Daniel Ricciardo sneaking it

:32:26.:32:34.

through. The quick left-hander, named after another venue of the

:32:35.:32:40.

British Grand Prix in the 1950s. RADIO: A little bit wet. Nico

:32:41.:32:48.

Rosberg confirming the track is correct for intermediate tyres. A

:32:49.:32:53.

wide line on the first part of Luffield, then comes inside.

:32:54.:33:04.

He was quickest in the first sector, until a moment ago, and nuclear has

:33:05.:33:08.

gone faster. until a moment ago, and nuclear has

:33:09.:33:13.

not using too much of the curb. until a moment ago, and nuclear has

:33:14.:33:19.

Cruising through the entry to that corner, not taking any risks. The

:33:20.:33:25.

flashing red light is a standard part of wet conditions. Once the

:33:26.:33:29.

intermediate tyres go on, it triggers the rear light. The DRS

:33:30.:33:37.

snapping shut, that can be operated manually by the driver. Some traffic

:33:38.:33:48.

ahead. It is Esteban Gutierrez. This is where it has been slippery

:33:49.:33:52.

through practice, trying to put the power down here. That was very tidy

:33:53.:33:57.

and careful. The initial market is set. We are some way off what we

:33:58.:34:03.

were doing at the end of the first session, many macro for 2.3. Daniil

:34:04.:34:12.

Kvyat is on a good lap here. Jean-Eric Vergne is going well. Toro

:34:13.:34:19.

Rosso have a good setup. Pastor Maldonado has done a good lap on the

:34:20.:34:28.

Lotus. Beaten by Jean-Eric Vergne. Motivated by the fact that he has a

:34:29.:34:33.

Mercedes engine, presuming he has a Lotus ride next year. Renault should

:34:34.:34:41.

be very happy with the initial stages! The press officer will

:34:42.:34:44.

quickly be getting out a press release! It has changed already,

:34:45.:34:51.

Nico Rosberg and Kevin Magnussen likely to go well. Nico Rosberg is

:34:52.:35:00.

quickest of all in the middle sector, but faster than him is Lewis

:35:01.:35:08.

Hamilton. Nico Rosberg is quickest. Five seconds slower than his pace

:35:09.:35:12.

that he set earlier on. Lewis Hamilton is already quicker than his

:35:13.:35:20.

team-mate. Be careful not to use the curb. It rises up and then drops

:35:21.:35:31.

slightly. Listen to him as he feeds the power in. Short shifting. He

:35:32.:35:41.

goes fastest, a big margin, too. We had several wet sessions in

:35:42.:35:44.

qualifying earlier this year, Lewis Hamilton always have the edge. You

:35:45.:35:48.

can see him flicking the engine dial, once you have completed your

:35:49.:35:54.

lap and you want to save as much of the ending -- engine as possible.

:35:55.:36:00.

Daniel Ricciardo has reported it is drying up quickly. Maybe you can get

:36:01.:36:07.

onto slick tyres. It was five minutes to go in the previous

:36:08.:36:10.

session when the first team headed out, just before, actually. They

:36:11.:36:15.

need to keep their wits about them. The call has to come from the

:36:16.:36:19.

driver. Then, they need to hope they do not get any rain. No change in

:36:20.:36:29.

position for Daniil Kvyat. Sebastian Vettel has gone fastest in the first

:36:30.:36:34.

sector. He goes fastest, an excellent lap from the four-time

:36:35.:36:38.

world champion. We will see the conditions, if it is not raining...

:36:39.:36:50.

Going quite here. Once you get out, you know you will have to get the

:36:51.:37:01.

laptop anyway. All four wheels over, the lap time would have been

:37:02.:37:06.

disallowed. Tom. There is no rain in the pit lane. Max Chilton has been

:37:07.:37:12.

into the pits and has put a new set of intermediates on. He has nothing

:37:13.:37:17.

to lose, he thinks it is not yet ready for slick tyres. Sebastian

:37:18.:37:21.

Vettel is within four seconds of the slick tyre time. They are getting

:37:22.:37:26.

into the zone out. Slick tyres going onto the Mercedes. Still seven and a

:37:27.:37:31.

half minutes to go. Timing is everything. You can leave it too

:37:32.:37:37.

late. Sometimes, you can put them onto early. Yes, if they are too

:37:38.:37:46.

early, you lose temperature. Sebastian Vettel's time has been

:37:47.:37:49.

deleted, he went beyond the track limit. It is not only applying at

:37:50.:37:59.

the end of the race -- at the end of the lap. It puts Sebastian Vettel

:38:00.:38:06.

into the drop zone once more. Jenson Button had a time disallowed, would

:38:07.:38:10.

it still enabled him to get through to this part of qualifying. A

:38:11.:38:15.

reasonable lap, or not anything that will chased Lewis Hamilton. They

:38:16.:38:22.

could do with some quick assistant to tell us when a driver has made a

:38:23.:38:26.

mistake around the track. They could be touchpads. RADIO: Hit this lap,

:38:27.:38:34.

your fastest lap has been deleted. That is recently good for the moment

:38:35.:38:43.

for Jenson Button, but once we see cars on slick tyres, it could be a

:38:44.:38:49.

different story. This is the replay. Quite clear, four wheels over. There

:38:50.:38:54.

should be something over, a pressure pad, it was pretty close, and it is

:38:55.:39:05.

unacceptable that we are in this situation where if you give the

:39:06.:39:08.

drivers the opportunity to take the gamble, if they get it right, they

:39:09.:39:16.

can get away with it, and half a tyre which would have kept him in.

:39:17.:39:21.

They need a way of persuading the drivers from taking that risk. It

:39:22.:39:25.

cost Lewis Hamilton dearly in Austria. He was very wide and he

:39:26.:39:33.

lost his lap time. It is affecting some of the other drivers as well. A

:39:34.:39:38.

pause before we see what people will do on their slick tyres. Nico

:39:39.:39:42.

Rosberg is waiting to go out on the slick tyres. A change for the Red

:39:43.:39:53.

Bull as well. Let's get an opportunity to see how quickly Nico

:39:54.:39:59.

Rosberg is going. 30.2 is the fastest first sector we have seen,

:40:00.:40:05.

from Lewis Hamilton. Tom. The wettest bit of this racetrack is

:40:06.:40:11.

here, in the pit lane. It is not getting any cars going over it. When

:40:12.:40:16.

you see the cars on their new tyres, they are getting a film of

:40:17.:40:20.

water, losing surface temperature, so the car is going to be a handful

:40:21.:40:26.

as it accelerates in the arena section. Nico Rosberg's first

:40:27.:40:32.

sector, not as quick as the intermediate. The fast corners might

:40:33.:40:39.

be different. But it is green, a personal best for him. A pretty good

:40:40.:40:44.

indication that the track is getting there. We also have Jules Bianchi,

:40:45.:40:50.

one second faster than Nico Rosberg in the first sector. The Marussia in

:40:51.:40:55.

these conditions is giving the driver is confident. That is a very

:40:56.:41:01.

good sector from Jules Bianchi. This is looking encouraging. We have

:41:02.:41:08.

Adrian Sutil, who has no chance of getting out of the drop zone,

:41:09.:41:11.

because his car was reached. Sebastian Vettel with the fastest

:41:12.:41:20.

first sector. RADIO: Nico Rosberg has found 0.1 in the first sector.

:41:21.:41:28.

Nico Rosberg, fastest. That is a big chunk of time over Lewis Hamilton,

:41:29.:41:34.

who set the time on the intermediate. You have got to be on

:41:35.:41:38.

the slick tyres. Everybody is on them. Esteban Gutierrez has gone

:41:39.:41:45.

quicker, a good lap. We will find out whether he gets to keep it,

:41:46.:41:50.

hopefully he does not get the time deleted. Jules Bianchi goes fastest

:41:51.:41:57.

of all. But I think he went a bit wide out of the last corner. Let's

:41:58.:42:03.

see what happened to Lewis Hamilton. He realises he is going to run wide,

:42:04.:42:08.

so he takes the car wide. A massive oversteer. All the time, losing

:42:09.:42:17.

temperature in these tyres. Tricky conditions. Lewis Hamilton getting

:42:18.:42:23.

caught out, in seventh place at the moment. Jean-Eric Vergne is now

:42:24.:42:30.

fastest, in the Toro Rosso. Sebastian Vettel is second, Jules

:42:31.:42:34.

Bianchi third, Max Chilton fourth, this is a real turnaround. Lewis

:42:35.:42:39.

Hamilton is now putting it together a bit more accurately and cleanly,

:42:40.:42:44.

although Nico Rosberg is faster than anybody in the first and second

:42:45.:42:45.

sectors. Jenson Button has got some work to

:42:46.:42:59.

do. All of them will be going out on the slick tyres. Nico Rosberg has

:43:00.:43:07.

gone quickest by a huge margin, 1:30 5.1, huge chunks taken out of the

:43:08.:43:11.

lap time, as long as you keep it on the island. Getting the benefit of a

:43:12.:43:21.

toe. Yes, from Jules Bianchi. He is the fastest man of all in this

:43:22.:43:23.

session in the middle sector. If he keeps it altogether,

:43:24.:43:46.

session in the middle sector. If he from the crowd. That is one thing,

:43:47.:43:52.

you can hear the crowd, which is pretty unique. A lot of energy,

:43:53.:43:59.

people getting together and showing their appreciation. It is in the top

:44:00.:44:10.

ten, that is the main thing. The other Sauber of Esteban Gutierrez

:44:11.:44:16.

has gone off. Both of them will not other Sauber of Esteban Gutierrez

up. Esteban Gutierrez and Adrian Sutil the not improve. Jules Bianchi

:45:43.:45:46.

and Max Chilton are on for some tremendous positions. It does not

:45:47.:45:56.

look as if Grojean will be able to do much although he is on a lap.

:45:57.:46:03.

Middle sector not great. It is not enough. He only missed out by less

than a 10th of a second. He has seen the chequered flag. We will wait to

:46:15.:46:18.

see if terrorists improves. He goes seven. -- if Peres improves. So that

:46:19.:46:27.

is it. We have the top ten. This is the Gutierrez incident. He runs wide

:46:28.:46:38.

into the first part there. A very unusual place for a car to go off. A

:46:39.:46:49.

very small correction as he comes off the kerb. Runs wide a little

:46:50.:46:53.

gets on the white line. He was doing off the kerb. Runs wide a little

:46:54.:47:02.

that in morning practice. I do not see the point in risking getting on

the white line in damp conditions. That is the second Sauber out. Max

Chilton does have a five place penalty. But it is the best ever

:48:17.:48:21.

And another disappointing weekend for Maldonado. Any driver who allows

:49:41.:49:47.

We need to study what happened. But I think there was nothing we could

do differently. And what can you do out there tomorrow? Enjoy it. We

will start at the back. We have some overtaking to do. And we

it was starting to rain, and we knew it could be tight. Can you give us

:02:08.:02:12.

an insight as to how much interaction there is with your

:02:13.:02:17.

engineers and drivers is to making a decision on the tyres? Obviously,

:02:18.:02:25.

there is more you can do wrong than right. It is about extracting not

:02:26.:02:34.

the maximum but making sure you go into the next session. We have done

:02:35.:02:40.

that today. It is the interaction between our strategy guys and the

:02:41.:02:45.

drivers and the engineers. There is a permanent exchange, this is

:02:46.:02:49.

important. The drivers do not see who is improving, and it is

:02:50.:02:54.

important for the pit wall to see what the drivers seat. We will see

:02:55.:02:59.

if your car stays first and second, and Jenson Button emerges in the

:03:00.:03:06.

McLaren. It is definitely worth a go for him, to see if he can improve.

:03:07.:03:18.

McLaren might feel it is a missed opportunity, they might be able to

:03:19.:03:24.

pull out one golden lap. If you look at what Sergio Perez and Toro Rosso

:03:25.:03:35.

have done, this is what you would expect from McLaren. Interestingly,

:03:36.:03:39.

the Toro Rosso cars and Daniel Ricciardo are in the pits, they are

:03:40.:03:42.

not going to get back out now. You would not get around in enough time

:03:43.:03:49.

to start a lap. No change on the lap times there. We will have to wait

:03:50.:03:56.

and see. RADIO: It is pretty slippery. That is what he wants,

:03:57.:04:01.

because it means nobody can improve on the time he has set. He did not

:04:02.:04:13.

sound disappointed! It is not looking likely that anybody will

:04:14.:04:15.

improve, but this has been one of looking likely that anybody will

:04:16.:04:23.

those topsy-turvy sessions. But now, it is what was expected, Mercedes

:04:24.:04:30.

first and second. Lewis Hamilton could control this. He could afford

:04:31.:04:41.

to watch the conditions. If he feels it might be marginal, he could run

:04:42.:04:55.

wide and have a yellow flag. Getting a feel for the level of grip out

:04:56.:05:05.

there. RADIO: Tell Lewis Hamilton he needs to speed up. That is the

:05:06.:05:10.

benefit of him being ahead of his team-mate. Lewis Hamilton and his

:05:11.:05:18.

engineer have learned from their mistakes earlier in the year, going

:05:19.:05:37.

out behind Nico Rosberg. They are about to see the chequered flag. Did

:05:38.:05:48.

they crossed the line? They did. Sergio Perez did not. We do not

:05:49.:05:56.

think the sector times are going to improve. It is Sebastian Vettel's

:05:57.:06:00.

best, although he had not set a time. It is quite some way off the

:06:01.:06:03.

fastest from the earlier part of the session. Sergio Perez only missed

:06:04.:06:05.

the flag by a couple of seconds, so I think that was a mistake. Was that

:06:06.:06:10.

because Lewis Hamilton was slowing things down? Yes. The session is

:06:11.:06:14.

coming to an end, there will not be any major changes. Third place would

:06:15.:06:18.

be outstanding from Sergio Perez. He qualified fourth in Bahrain earlier

:06:19.:06:21.

this year, but that would still be a stunning result for Force India, the

:06:22.:06:24.

local team. They are based literally over the road. Sebastian Vettel will

:06:25.:06:29.

set a time. He might be able to move up a little bit. Nico Hulkenberg has

:06:30.:06:34.

gone fastest! The times are coming down! Sebastian Vettel has gone

:06:35.:06:42.

quickest! In the last part of the lap, it is really dry! Nico Rosberg

:06:43.:06:52.

is fastest! Where is Lewis Hamilton? He is in the pit! He is in

:06:53.:06:57.

sixth place! What a complete turnaround on the last part of the

:06:58.:07:01.

lap! The last sector was the dry bit! It was slippery elsewhere! We

:07:02.:07:04.

were all caught out! The last sector made all of the difference, and Nico

:07:05.:07:06.

Rosberg, last year's winner, has taken pole position. Sebastian

:07:07.:07:12.

Vettel will be on the front row, and Jenson Button has qualified in third

:07:13.:07:18.

place. Who would have thought that? McClellan are having a difficult

:07:19.:07:24.

season. Lewis Hamilton is down in sixth place. Nico Hulkenberg in

:07:25.:07:27.

fourth place, pushing his team-mate down to seventh place. Sergio Perez

:07:28.:07:35.

had been in third place, he is now down in seventh place. The Toro

:07:36.:07:43.

Rosso cars, they are now in ninth and 10th. McLaren told Jenson Button

:07:44.:07:45.

to keep pushing, because there might be time. RADIO: That is pole

:07:46.:07:52.

position, well done! The fourth of the year for Nico Rosberg, he

:07:53.:07:56.

matches Lewis Hamilton. His first at Silverstone, where his father set a

:07:57.:08:04.

remarkable lap to take pole position in 1985. It is a 25th pole position

:08:05.:08:10.

for Mercedes, and his eighth career pole position. What a surprise.

:08:11.:08:18.

Lewis Hamilton, why did he not finish the lap? We do not know. That

:08:19.:08:25.

is the story, he is still to emerge. He was not quicker in the first two

:08:26.:08:31.

sectors. Let's presume that he then decided, that is it, I am on pole

:08:32.:08:37.

position. We saw Nico Hulkenberg pull out an amazing final sector,

:08:38.:08:41.

and then Sebastian Vettel, and then Nico Rosberg continued. Absolutely

:08:42.:08:48.

phenomenal. Nico Rosberg takes pole position, from Sebastian Vettel and

:08:49.:08:54.

Jenson Button. The only British driver amongst the German drivers.

:08:55.:09:03.

Jenson Button just getting in between the German drivers, Lewis

:09:04.:09:08.

Hamilton will start in sixth place. My goodness, if he is going to win,

:09:09.:09:16.

it will be an amazing race. Both Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo

:09:17.:09:20.

the big losers, because Daniel Ricciardo has finished in eighth

:09:21.:09:25.

place. He lost out hugely, when he had been looking competitive all the

:09:26.:09:28.

way through. One of those bizarre sessions. It was not a question of

:09:29.:09:34.

what the lap was the liver in, it is just one sector of 26.5 seconds that

:09:35.:09:40.

changed everything. The crowd cannot quite believe it, Nico Rosberg is

:09:41.:09:45.

getting some applause from the British brands, always generous, but

:09:46.:09:52.

they were thinking that Lewis Hamilton had it in the bag. We all

:09:53.:09:57.

did. But then Nico Hulkenberg popped up that lap that

:09:58.:09:59.

did. But then Nico Hulkenberg popped final sector was so much quicker

:10:00.:10:02.

did. But then Nico Hulkenberg popped than it had been earlier. Nico

:10:03.:10:06.

Rosberg has taken pole position. Jenson Button has ended up with his

:10:07.:10:12.

first top three start at Silverstone since 2005. He has never had much

:10:13.:10:17.

luck here, but it came to him today. That is lovely to see. Fantastic.

:10:18.:10:24.

The contrasting fortunes of the British writers, Jenson Button is

:10:25.:10:29.

delighted with third place, I would expect Lewis Hamilton to keep his

:10:30.:10:31.

helmet on for a while. Both of the McLaren 's car -- the

:10:32.:10:48.

McLaren cars have done well. Toro Rosso have lost out, but they are

:10:49.:10:56.

still in the top ten. An outstanding 12 place for Marussia. They might be

:10:57.:11:03.

able to scrape some point again, as they did in Monaco. Max Chilton has

:11:04.:11:05.

the penalty. A remarkable qualifying session,

:11:06.:11:21.

Mercedes on pole position, sixth place with Lewis Hamilton.

:11:22.:11:31.

What a sensational session. Why did Lewis Hamilton not finish his lap?

:11:32.:11:36.

He felt the lap was worse, he bailed out. It was unfortunate, because

:11:37.:11:42.

there was a lot of time found at the end. A huge surprise. Yes, these

:11:43.:11:49.

conditions are always very tricky. In the first run, the third sector

:11:50.:11:55.

was a lot slower, because there was fresh rain coming in, so in the

:11:56.:12:00.

second run, the first two sectors were down, so it did not look like a

:12:01.:12:04.

better lap, but the third sector was up quite a bit, because it had dried

:12:05.:12:09.

out. What was your radar telling you about the weather? We could see it

:12:10.:12:13.

coming in, but you cannot predict the drying.

:12:14.:12:21.

What an absolutely incredible qualifying session, we wondered

:12:22.:12:24.

whether it would be epic, it certainly was. Looking at Sebastian

:12:25.:12:34.

Vettel there, he will be absolutely thrilled to be on the front row.

:12:35.:12:38.

Nico Rosberg taking pole position, he will be more than delighted with

:12:39.:12:42.

that. The crowd were pretty dumbstruck with that, as were all of

:12:43.:12:49.

us. Me for one, that is for sure. The reality is, that was so exciting

:12:50.:12:56.

and unpredictable, and I am trying to pinch myself, is this the way the

:12:57.:13:03.

grid is going to set up? No Ferrari up the front, no Williams, and those

:13:04.:13:09.

are the three people. The big loss for us is Lewis Hamilton, bailing

:13:10.:13:12.

out, you could hear what Paddy had to say. He made the mistake, he did

:13:13.:13:18.

not realise there was so much time to be gained in the third sector. He

:13:19.:13:22.

had been the man, he thought he had it in the can. He has the speed to

:13:23.:13:28.

do this, it played into everyone else's hands. They were delighted to

:13:29.:13:33.

see him bail out. Nico Rosberg did not. Nico Hulkenberg made the big

:13:34.:13:38.

jump forward, he found where the time was, and he jumped and opened

:13:39.:13:45.

the door for everybody else. Force India, a very good start for them,

:13:46.:13:50.

but there are other sad tales, every driver would have told you why they

:13:51.:13:54.

should have improved. Let's hear from Christian Horner.

:13:55.:14:00.

One of your drivers gained and one lost out. The conditions are so

:14:01.:14:08.

tricky and isolated. We missed the window with Sebastian Vettel at the

:14:09.:14:12.

beginning and at the end with Daniel Ricciardo. But Sebastian did a great

:14:13.:14:17.

job. In hindsight, we should have run with Daniel, we did not think

:14:18.:14:21.

the track would be better. It just goes to show, with British weather

:14:22.:14:27.

you can never tell. It is not down to Daniel, he does what he is told,

:14:28.:14:33.

so between the train spotters, the pit wall, as a team we made the

:14:34.:14:38.

wrong call. But other teams have made worse course today. We got it

:14:39.:14:44.

right with Sebastian. At the end of the day, that was going to be damage

:14:45.:14:49.

limitation, and he ended up getting on the front row. Quite a boost for

:14:50.:14:56.

him. Absolutely. Just what he needed. Hopefully, he can have a

:14:57.:15:00.

good race. Daniel will be coming through as well. It is immensely

:15:01.:15:05.

difficult, we saw Ferrari and Williams go out, and whatever has

:15:06.:15:09.

happened with Lewis Hamilton. It is tricky, but we are in good positions

:15:10.:15:21.

for tomorrow. Do you think that you can win this race? Nico Rosberg is

:15:22.:15:26.

going to be to put in reality and Lewis Hamilton will be coming

:15:27.:15:30.

through. But we will do our best to give them a hard time. We can speak

:15:31.:15:40.

now to Toto Wolff. Is the cap in order of the Tour de France in

:15:41.:15:46.

Yorkshire as Mac I thought it was English! Being in Silverstone. What

:15:47.:15:51.

a day this has turned out to be. You sounded surprised when Nico Rosberg

:15:52.:15:56.

got pole position. Disappointment with Lewis Hamilton. Very

:15:57.:16:02.

disappointing. So many errors you can have in such a session. You have

:16:03.:16:09.

seen with Ferrari, sometimes it is just important to get into the next

:16:10.:16:12.

session. It was a misjudgement for sure. The second section seem to be

:16:13.:16:19.

much wetter than before for Lewis Hamilton. But the last sector was

:16:20.:16:24.

dry and there you go, you lose your point. Do you feel the grid is

:16:25.:16:33.

catching you a little bit now as Mac we have seen in the last sessions

:16:34.:16:38.

yesterday and today that we still had a solid margin. But it is a

:16:39.:16:41.

matter of time that they're going to come near, that is clear. You cannot

:16:42.:16:46.

keep such an advantage through the whole season. But we do not want to

:16:47.:16:56.

be complacent and we keep pushing. We can hear now from Lewis Hamilton.

:16:57.:17:03.

Was that a missed opportunity today? Yes. Why did you come in at

:17:04.:17:11.

the end? I do not know. I do not have much of an answer for you. Did

:17:12.:17:16.

you make that decision, or was it just wait a lap went? Just decided

:17:17.:17:25.

not to do a lap. You're obviously incredibly disappointed. Did you

:17:26.:17:29.

expect the circuit to dry out so fast? Obviously not, no. I do not

:17:30.:17:36.

really have anything to say to you at the minute.

:17:37.:17:42.

Absolutely lost for words. He so wanted that pole position and he

:17:43.:17:47.

thought he had it in the can. You just cannot speak. He is an

:17:48.:17:52.

emotional man. He wears his heart on his sleeve. He gives people

:17:53.:17:59.

ammunition to ask questions and analyse where he is in his own mind

:18:00.:18:03.

actually by being so lost for words. The easy thing would be to give an

:18:04.:18:08.

answer and say we will bounce back tomorrow. But he is so bitterly

:18:09.:18:15.

disappointed. He thought he had it in the bag. None of us expected that

:18:16.:18:18.

last sector to deliver that change in qualifying. It is a good reminder

:18:19.:18:25.

that it is not over until the chequered flag. He literally sounded

:18:26.:18:33.

as if he physically could not speak. It was a body punch that really blew

:18:34.:18:38.

him away. It was a mass of shock to him and just took him by surprise.

:18:39.:18:43.

He is the person in their and he should know what the surface is like

:18:44.:18:49.

and whether it can be quick enough or not. And to bail out with one lap

:18:50.:18:53.

to go in final qualifying is a huge error. And I'm afraid to say, Lewis

:18:54.:19:02.

Hamilton, you are to blame. The sun just coming out and certainly was

:19:03.:19:09.

shining on the top three. Nico Rosberg, a very dramatic

:19:10.:19:14.

conclusion to that qualifying session. You took pole position

:19:15.:19:19.

right at the end. Were you surprised by how much the track improved right

:19:20.:19:26.

at the end? It was quite crazy qualifying, just changing all the

:19:27.:19:30.

time which makes it difficult. Then in the end on the first lap with the

:19:31.:19:36.

soft tyres it started to rain quite a lot. We lost a lot of time there

:19:37.:19:41.

and then everywhere else it was also quite wet. I told the guys, that is

:19:42.:19:48.

it. Then we just came to a general conclusion, might as well go out and

:19:49.:19:54.

have a look at the track. If you do not have a look there is no chance.

:19:55.:19:58.

So at least go and have a look. Then it seemed like we should give it a

:19:59.:20:03.

go. But even then I still did not really believe that the track would

:20:04.:20:07.

be better. What made it was the last sector. I knew I had lost four

:20:08.:20:14.

seconds on the previous lap so even if I was slower than that lap I

:20:15.:20:18.

still have the chance of going a lot quicker in those last three quarters

:20:19.:20:22.

if it was halfway dry. And that is how it turned out. It's just worked

:20:23.:20:29.

out perfectly. But even across the line, I had to be there. I had to be

:20:30.:20:39.

as fast as possible to be able to do that last lap. As I crossed the line

:20:40.:20:43.

it went red instantly. It was a very close call. All in all it was just a

:20:44.:20:49.

good team effort with everyone working together, my engineers

:20:50.:20:55.

together with me. It is fantastic to have such a qualifying where

:20:56.:21:01.

everything goes well in the end. Very well done. And Sebastian Vettel

:21:02.:21:08.

comic you actually had to do a lap. What was going through your mind

:21:09.:21:15.

driving around the circuit? At the start of Q3 we went out as

:21:16.:21:21.

one of the last cars. And just preparing the flying lap it started

:21:22.:21:27.

to rain. So I had that last sector and then there was no point and we

:21:28.:21:32.

aborted the lap. At that time it was impossible to set a decent time on

:21:33.:21:39.

the slick tyres. Then we were back in the garage waiting. And we said

:21:40.:21:46.

OK we might as well go out. We will go out on the dry tyres. And we were

:21:47.:21:53.

one of the first ones to go out for one flying lap in the end. It was

:21:54.:21:57.

quite difficult to believe that it would be dry enough. It is a funny

:21:58.:22:02.

place. It was a weird session full stop a

:22:03.:22:08.

lot of rain, no rain, drizzle, very fine rain almost like spray. I think

:22:09.:22:13.

England is the only country where you can get these kind of conditions

:22:14.:22:18.

changing so quickly. Incredibly difficult to know what is coming. So

:22:19.:22:23.

on the flying lap you approach the first turn and it is difficult to

:22:24.:22:28.

know how much risk you can take. Eventually you have to take some

:22:29.:22:32.

risk because I wanted to set it up. So I am happy that it turned out

:22:33.:22:39.

very positive. And starting from the front row tomorrow.

:22:40.:22:44.

And Jenson Button, changeable conditions. You were there or

:22:45.:22:50.

thereabouts. How happy are you with the result today? I know it is only

:22:51.:22:57.

third in qualifying but for us at the moment and for the last 18

:22:58.:23:05.

months, we had no chance of getting this result. It is nice in front of

:23:06.:23:09.

the home crowd to qualify well. And all the way through qualifying the

:23:10.:23:14.

pace was there. Not compare to the Mercedes. But with everyone else

:23:15.:23:21.

pace was there. When I did my lap in Q1 on the option tyres in the dry, I

:23:22.:23:27.

was about two seconds quicker when I did it. I made the mistake of losing

:23:28.:23:33.

the rear on the last corner so was disallowed. I thought I was going to

:23:34.:23:38.

be out so to come through and to be third in Q3, it is a good result for

:23:39.:23:45.

today. I'm really happy that I could do it here in front of the home

:23:46.:23:51.

crowd. What a day for Jensen Button. And a

:23:52.:23:57.

great lap from Nico Rosberg. Take as round this one, boys. He was already

:23:58.:24:05.

pushing Lewis Hamilton on the radio. He knew when he started he

:24:06.:24:10.

was not going to be able to cross the line for the chequered flag

:24:11.:24:14.

dropped. That allowed him to have this lap.

:24:15.:24:19.

Inside the clock bit they will be able to see every few metres where

:24:20.:24:24.

they are in comparison to their best lap. -- the cockpit. He will know

:24:25.:24:34.

that he was not going faster. It is some way before the end of the lap.

:24:35.:24:42.

That was Lewis Hamilton that pulled out of the way. It was the last

:24:43.:24:46.

sector of the separate but was actually wet. At this point he might

:24:47.:24:53.

be down but there was no hope that it could be something when he came

:24:54.:24:58.

round to it. At this stage they are still struggling for the lap time.

:24:59.:25:06.

There was no indication. As he comes out of the last part onto the

:25:07.:25:12.

straight he was able to start to feel the grip and game that

:25:13.:25:20.

performance from the option tyres. This was where it was quite wet

:25:21.:25:25.

before he goes down the three years. Mrs the apex by a long way. So still

:25:26.:25:31.

not at the optimum speed through the corner. But coming into the last few

:25:32.:25:36.

corners, you just have to give it a go. Just get on the power it nice

:25:37.:25:46.

and drives for the line. The red lights telling him that was the end

:25:47.:25:49.

of the session. He would have to wait. To get the information from

:25:50.:25:54.

the team. He gets that and up comes the finger. That seems to be a thing

:25:55.:26:01.

with the German drivers! And had Lewis Hamilton continued the lap

:26:02.:26:06.

then Nico Rosberg would not be on pole. Even if he was slower there

:26:07.:26:10.

was no way, if he had committed himself to the lap, that Nico

:26:11.:26:15.

Rosberg would have been able to pass. So that could explain some of

:26:16.:26:19.

the reasons why Lewis Hamilton is so down. He actually handed them the

:26:20.:26:25.

opportunity. All the way through qualifying, the

:26:26.:26:30.

lesson of the day was you have to be on the circuit right until the end

:26:31.:26:36.

or you could make a mistake. Lewis Hamilton got track position. This is

:26:37.:26:41.

what he was missing against Nico Rosberg earlier in the year. But he

:26:42.:26:48.

pulled over and let him in instead of controlling the pace of his

:26:49.:26:54.

team-mate. This is the lap that he did not finish. This is the section

:26:55.:26:58.

that takes you through to Wellington. And then he pulled

:26:59.:27:05.

over. He decides it is too wet, I will let my team-mate through. Big

:27:06.:27:12.

error. Unless he has an issue with that car, that was the mistake that

:27:13.:27:19.

he made. He does accept that. He knows that he made a major blunder.

:27:20.:27:25.

He has handed the initiative in my opinion to Nico Rosberg and he could

:27:26.:27:31.

so easily have changed it. I think at that stage Lewis Hamilton thought

:27:32.:27:34.

it was in the bag. People like Sebastian Vettel whether one is

:27:35.:27:39.

rolling the dice. At this point I did not think anyone was going to go

:27:40.:27:45.

quicker than Lewis Hamilton. But you do know around here how the weather

:27:46.:27:53.

changes so quickly. You try telling that to the people at Ferrari, at

:27:54.:27:57.

Williams. No one is able to predict the time that it takes to dry up.

:27:58.:28:04.

That is the thing. You tell me when it is going to evaporate. As a team

:28:05.:28:08.

boss these weather conditions that you loved? I loved it. You always

:28:09.:28:13.

went the opposite way to what the big teams were doing. If they made a

:28:14.:28:18.

mistake or screwed up for whatever reason, you could just get lucky.

:28:19.:28:22.

Just like Nico Rosberg did not deserve to have pole position here

:28:23.:28:29.

he took all the best advantages of the situation. It played into his

:28:30.:28:33.

hands. And at this moment the season his head is in the right place and

:28:34.:28:38.

he looks very strong. And for that reason effectively he had deserved

:28:39.:28:42.

to get pole position. And Nico Hulkenberg, off the second row, let

:28:43.:28:51.

us hear from him now. That worked out well for some and

:28:52.:28:54.

not so well for others. It worked out well for you. How quickly was

:28:55.:29:00.

that circuit drying out? Yes, I had never felt and seen it

:29:01.:29:07.

drying up that quickly. It felt damp and no grip and then the next minute

:29:08.:29:11.

it stopped raining and was completely dry. It is really hard to

:29:12.:29:18.

judge what is going on out there. It was the right call to go out at the

:29:19.:29:23.

end. I thought it was not going to work, just do not crash the car. And

:29:24.:29:30.

then the other cars went out. But I think I was the first to set a lap

:29:31.:29:35.

time so was still suffering from damp patches. It set you up really

:29:36.:29:43.

well for tomorrow. It does. I just hope tomorrow is another good day.

:29:44.:29:48.

It is hard to know where we stand. Yesterday was a tricky day. We have

:29:49.:29:53.

to see what conditions are like tomorrow. And then put on the right

:29:54.:30:07.

tyres at the right moment. He is looking very excited, we will

:30:08.:30:15.

be talking about him tomorrow. You have raised for British teams,

:30:16.:30:20.

your Mercedes team is based in Brackley, but the British weather

:30:21.:30:24.

caught you out. Not really, it was tricky in the end. We were both well

:30:25.:30:30.

in the lead, the rain came down, and then we have to decide whether to go

:30:31.:30:37.

out or not. They both pushed. Lewis Hamilton thought the circuit was

:30:38.:30:41.

slower, and he stopped. Nico Rosberg kept on going. Can you clarify, it

:30:42.:30:49.

was Lewis Hamilton who aborted? Yes, it was his decision. But the other

:30:50.:30:57.

one proved you can go quicker. It seems that Nico Rosberg has been

:30:58.:31:02.

robbed of the green, he can do no wrong, but Lewis Hamilton keeps

:31:03.:31:07.

getting tripped up. Nico Rosberg was outstanding again, to grab the pole

:31:08.:31:17.

position. Michael is here, you saw him in the

:31:18.:31:22.

garage earlier. What did you make of that session? It was pretty

:31:23.:31:28.

unpredictable at the end, it is hard for the teams, because it looked

:31:29.:31:32.

like the best lap was done by Sergio Perez. The track dries so quickly,

:31:33.:31:39.

Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg squeezed it in at the end. It is

:31:40.:31:43.

exciting for tomorrow. Hopefully, a bit of rain will make it a bit of

:31:44.:31:52.

fun. Michael, are you a jinx to Ferrari and Williams? You sound as

:31:53.:31:56.

if you are. It is helpful to the teams that invite me! Sebastian is

:31:57.:32:00.

there at the front of the grid, so that is nice! You had a lot to do

:32:01.:32:06.

with that? I think so, the look of the Irish, maybe! You will be

:32:07.:32:17.

watching. I will be with the Red Bull team tomorrow, and crossing

:32:18.:32:22.

fingers for both of them. I am a big fan of Daniel, he has been amazing

:32:23.:32:26.

this season, he has dealt with the pressure phenomenally well. How

:32:27.:32:31.

about you and driving? Do you get out to drive fast cars? I have not

:32:32.:32:37.

been in a Formula One car yet, we will see! It is a massive dream for

:32:38.:32:44.

me. I do not even own a car, I just have a motorbike, but I love it.

:32:45.:32:50.

Whenever I can, I go karting, whenever possible. It is good to see

:32:51.:32:56.

you, stay with us for a moment. A prediction for tomorrow? I still

:32:57.:33:02.

believe that Lewis Hamilton can overcome his troubles, if he can

:33:03.:33:08.

prepare himself, he knows he has got the car and the speed, he can win. A

:33:09.:33:14.

lot of people wanting the same thing, we will have all of the

:33:15.:33:18.

action forward you live tomorrow, Michael will be here, join us on BBC

:33:19.:33:26.

Two. It is Nico Rosberg in pole position, Lewis Hamilton has got it

:33:27.:33:29.

all to do, but it is the British Grand Prix, see you then.

:33:30.:33:53.

The times are coming down! The last part of the lab is really dry! Nico

:33:54.:33:59.

Rosberg goes fastest! Make the most of your weekend,
