The Canadian Grand Prix - Highlights Formula 1

Formula one. Race seven, Montreal, Canada.

Hello and welcome to the Canadian Grand Prix from Montreal. What

glorious conditions we have today. The sun is shining and the fans are

pouring in. Let's have a look at how the Championship stance. Nico

Rosberg leapt by a narrow margin of four points over Lewis Hamilton.

Total Mercedes domination. Fernando Alonso is best of the rest in third.

The new Red Bull start, Daniel Alonso is best of the rest in third.

The new Red Bull start, Daniel Ricciardo, nine points ahead of his

team-mate and Nico Hulkenberg separating them in fifth. So far,

Mercedes' opposition have been left standing. Look to ninth and you will

see that Marussia have two points, their first-ever, thanks to Bianchi

in Monaco last time out. We will have all of the race action in just

a moment. First, the scintillating story of qualifying with Lee

McKenzie. Neuer-macro Esteban Gutierrez did not meet qualifying

after this crash. The chassis was punctured and there was no way the

Sauber would be ready. He will start from the pit lane. Ferrari brought a

raft of updates which had been promising until the temperatures

rose over the weekend and the new parts did not work as well. The

drivers tried to compensate and he could not have been to close at a

touching the war. He had to settle for ten. Bottas and Martha did not

disappoint. Massa was still disappointed to be fifth, Bottas

happier with his position of force. Last year's winner Sebastian Vettel

hadn't been looking strong throughout qualifying, but a break

-- great last gasp that saw him jump to third. This track of what is one

of Lewis Hamilton's favourites but he could not link it together as

well as Rosberg and it was the German who took pole position by

less than a 10th of a second. It will be a great race I imagine. It

should be between two offers and have to work on the strategy tonight

to stay in front. Rosberg is the first team-mate outqualified

Hamilton at this track. Vettel is third, Williams had two cars in the

top five since 2006. Ricciardo is sixth and Alonso had his worst

qualifying since 2001. Vergne, Button and Raikkonen round out the

top ten. Magnussen splits the Force Indias. It was a tough day for

Grosjean. Chilton outqualified Bianchi for Marussia. Gutierrez

starts from the pit lane. Devine-macro only one driver has won

Monaco and then won here, when they have been consecutive races on the

calendar and that was Ayrton Senna in 1990. Hamilton won from second on

the grid just two years ago. We will find out how the latest instalment

unravels. 21 cars on the grid. One in the pit lane. All eyes on the

front row. Round 7, lights out, away we go, a good start from Hamilton.

Hamilton has made the better getaway than Rosberg. Rosberg is on the

inside, they almost touched. Hamilton loses second place as

Vettel goes through. They had to race forehead. Hamilton had a

chance. At the back, Ericsson. The two Williams are side-by-side.

Bottas is on the inside. Martha has to give him space. Bottas is in

fourth place,. An accident in the back of the shot. Marussia? It is.

It is Bianchi, I think. Safety car. It is the man who starred so well in

Monaco. As has been a very heavy hit. Touched with his team-mate.

That would be a real disappointment if that has occurred. Let's wait

until we see some replays. There is Chilton. That is turn five, further

round the corner, maybe he got caught up in the aftermath of the

incident. Both Marussias are out on the opening lap and we have a safety

car for the first time here since 2011. Are you OK? I am OK. A quiet

comment from Bianchi and the marshals very quick on the seed. --

on the scene. He begins to get out. Often we have seen incidents on the

first corner, but normally they are beginning to find their feet but

first lap, they are very close to one another. Can we spot what

happened? Contact with his team-mate. It broke the right rear

corner as there was contact between axe Chilton and Jules Bianchi. It

spun him around. It looks like Bianchi was over steering. It is

Chilton. Chilton into Bianchi, I think. Then he just flipped the

other car up and Bianchi goes into the wall. This will be Max

Chilton's first-ever non-finish in a Grand Prix. He finished every single

Grand Prix. Lotus had to take to the grass there. Look at the debris on

the circuit. Do the Caterhams have any issue with the carbon fibre on

their tyres? Maldonado had to take the short cut. Kobayashi and

Ericsson driving through all of that carbon fibre. Amazing images of

capturing that. The crane very quickly getting one of the Marussias

out of the way. Talk about going from highest to lose in motorsport.

They have points for the first time ever in Monaco and now they have

lost both cars in the opening lap of the Canadian Grand Prix. Safety car

comes in and we are ready to go racing once again here in Canada.

Vettel is quite slow away and this is going to hurt Hamilton hugely

because Rosberg launches himself back into the lead, away once again

and Vettel not challenged yet by Hamilton, has got himself into a

clear second place. That restart did not work very well the Lewis

Hamilton. He is still traced by the two Williams. Bottas and Martha, the

two Ferraris of Alonso and they are running together. He allowed the

safety car to clear into the pit lane, it leaves the circuit and as

soon as he was confident he went for it. In the background you can see

the Force Indias. 11th for Perez, 12 for Hong Kong bird. Different

strategies, different pit stop sequences -- Hulkenberg. Hulkenberg

is looking at the long game. He is 12. Magnussen 30s, Sutil 14th and

Grosjean and Maldonado, Kobayashi in 18th place, Gutierrez running after

his two pit stops and Ericsson still running but we have lost the two

Marussias. At the front, he will make the break about. Before he gets

the DRS use, DRS not used on the first lap after the safety car has

been there. Alonso chased by Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson Button behind

them. A little bit of pressure coming from his former team-mate

Sergio Perez, who takes a look down the inside and Perez through.

Out-brakes Jenson Button and Button could not do much about that. Button

anon the same time Perry is on the new set of the super soft. Good,

clean manoeuvre there. It was. I have seen one of the Caterhams is

the apex of the last chicane. As it did, Ericsson at the restart,

Kobayashi has done exactly the same. They will get away with that one or

two times before they get a message there will be a penalty. Always good

to the end. That is interesting, fuel is good to the end, they are

told already, so the safety car period has helped. Ericsson has an

engine problem. Ericsson, not looking much better the Caterhams.

They have not got the damage but it does not look as though they will

profit that much, although Kobayashi is still running. Under pressure

from Lewis Hamilton behind, then Bottas is in fourth place. We will

hear a bit of radio, Massa is in fifth, Ricciardo in slicks. Hamilton

now beginning to line-up. Sebastian Vettel, great speed, straight-line

speed advantage for the Mercedes over the Red Bull, but is he going

to be able to make the most of it? He does not look close enough. He

has to follow. A good opportunity for Rosberg to open up the gap. He

was half a second quicker on the last lap. Let's see the gap. In

fact, Vettel was quicker than Rosberg. Exploiting the performance

of the Red Bull car in the middle sector, he was a couple of tenths

cricket in that sector. A few more twiddly bits and corners. Again,

confirming the Red Bull, nothing wrong with the chassis. This was

Perez passing Button. No DRS of course. Coming into the braking

zone. The DRS has been unable. You can see the rear wing flap opening

up on Hamilton's car. He makes the most of his opportunity. Look at the

speed. He is straight past Sebastian Vettel. The gap between Rosberg and

Hamilton, as they go across the line this time, I can tell you Rosberg

has done a wanting .9 .9, the gap is 1.7 seconds. Hamilton is's task is

to try to close that gap as quickly as possible. Daniel Ricciardo comes

into the pit lane for Red Bull. Lap 14. I thought they might go further,

it does indicate a two stock race for Daniel Ricciardo. It is

relatively early bearing in mind the safety car period we have had. It is

17 and a half or 18 second total time loss. Is he going to be able to

slot in front of that battle? E is indeed, Ream joins turned two.

they have given him clear air because his tyres were not going to

like following the Williams. They have got him into clear air, an

opportunity to put in quick laps here. Hulkenberg being passed, I

think, somebody was coming into the pits. Button, in. That is why he was

passing the pit entry. You can break much later than you can for the last

corner. Jenson Button is in the pits and goes from super soft tyre to the

soft tyre and it looks like a two stop for Jenson Button. Bottas

event, a crucial stop. A bit of side-by-side action going on. That

is Kvyat and Ricciardo. Gutierrez I believe. Daniel Ricciardo was a bit

off the road. Great pit stops were both Williams and McLaren. Felipe

Massa may be on a slightly different stride, though they both have

started on the super soft tyre. They had to. That was what they qualified

on. Magnussen coming through. Tense position, just inside the points. We

are seeing different strategies coming into play. It is Vettel.

Sebastian Vettel, and Vergne in, who releases Alonso. Raikkonen coming

under pressure from Sergio Perez. Perez had a great race a couple of

years ago when he was driving for Sauber and he looks pretty good

today. We're looking at Vettel Vergne is also in. 2.7 seconds for

Vettel. Slowest for Vergne, that is costly. Massa is in, Magnussen is in

so is Sutil. Really busy pits at this stage. The super soft tyre has

not as us as -- as long as some would have expected. It is raining

issues. That will be frustrating for Massa, to be staring at the back-end

of the Toro Rosso at this phase of the Grand Prix. The rear graining

has been the issue. Once you start getting the graining across the

surface of the tyre, it is like floating around on marbles. It is

not low downforce any more, but low grip. I think they have hung in

there as well as they could, you oversteer from McLaren as they power

into the slipstream. Button trying to get Gutierrez. He will not go

around the outside, it will not. With the fresher tyres, into turn

ten, Gutierrez will stay right and try to defend. Button is going

slightly to the left. He will try to cut back and get a straight exit.

Gutierrez is wise to that and places his car accurately. He should pick

up the DRS. It is Ferrari power versus... Gutierrez goes to the

inside, Button flies past. He moves up. Alonso is in the pits. Let's see

what that stop us like. He has got a of Vergne. Alonso has used a pit

stop, Ferrari have used the pit stop really well and have got their man

ahead of the Toro Rosso who was in ahead of the Toro Rosso who was in

front of them before that round-up it stops began. This could

compromise him in the third chicane. Rare mistake from Fernando Alonso.

Vergne isn't close enough. This is one of the key issues of the soft

tyres, getting the tyres to work when you first put it on the carcass

to it will allow Vergne to be in the DRS zone. He has a small lock-up.

Massa are on Kvyat. He will make easy meat of that. Kvyat has DRS as

well. Raikkonen is in the pits as well. Let's see where Raikkonen

comes out in all of this. He was just behind Alonso. He will come out

behind his team-mate, behind Vergne. He will be with the Toro Rosso and

Daniil Kvyat. Only just in front of Button. Button has two back off in

the end. That is work Button and Alonso made contact a few years ago.

Was there a problem in the pit stop? Yes there was. Tyr wasn't

there by the looks of it. Why does it keep going wrong for Massa at the

minute. Ross Bird, the race leader is in. Does Lewis Hamilton manage to

get an extra quick lap out of his super-soft or are they passed their

best? Still open for a one or two stop strategy for Mercedes. There is

a possibility they could go to the end. Pit stop not as quick as some

of the others but is out into clear air. That half a second could make a

difference. Hamilton knows he is coming in this lap and is using

everything he can from this set of tyres. Unlikely he can make up the

two second gap there was. We have seen some two second pit stops. Ross

Bird, what happened to him a moment ago? My goodness! Went massively

over the inside of the curve. Huge, huge moment! He was so close to

putting it in the wall. That is the pressure, he has to keep pushing.

That's higher, it is difficult to get it working. We saw that with

Alonso. You do wonder if getting those tyres working effectively is

crucial? Can Hamilton come out ahead? I don't think so, his middle

sector wasn't anywhere near his personal best. Same pit stop time,

3.6 seconds. Not the fastest from Mercedes today. Rosberg stays in

front. Just looking at Raikkonen on Kvyat a moment ago. He had a go

going into the final chicane. Kvyat had to short cut it. He will have to

give the place back? He will. In fairness to

give the place back? He will. In spatial awareness. Kobayashi had

turned also. If you are not up front, do something for the fans, it

will get you some television time. Oh gear, it looks as though we could

have lost both Marussias and both Caterhams. They can recover the car

earlier. Look at the fuel use. Hamilton is using less fuel than

Rosberg. It has been a standard part of the season. Bottas not using as

some of those around. Massa particularly, 31 in terms of

kilograms of fuel used. Hamilton much closer. He has had to go

straight across and short cut the chicane and Hamilton takes the lead.

No he doesn't! No he doesn't. Normally you will get a message from

Charlie saying, don't do that. What might be in his favour is Hamilton

wasn't trying to pass him at the time he made the mistake. He is

locked up and will have a flat spotted the front slightly. Massa is

making a move, he has done it into turn one. That was an efficient

manoeuvre from Felipe Massa. He goes into a place. Greater when you have

a couple of pros, they know each other well. Look at this, a long

lock-up. Breaking at 200 miles an hour. He is desperately trying to

get to the apex. He realises he will damage the tyre and opens the

steering. I will be cure is to know what a radio message might be. You

will get away with that because Hamilton was not trying to pass. You

see the pass from Massa, DRS around the outside of Alonso. Romain

Grosjean going past Gutierrez. We can see if that was completed

simply. Sutil in the background. No problem for Grosjean. We have lost

Maldonado already, five retirements in this Grand Prix. Nothing to

choose between Rosberg and Hamilton, who has closed the gap. No

investigation -- no news on the investigation. TEAM RADIO: Nico is

under investigation, don't take any risks. Hamilton has got the message.

Can he rattle him again? Hamilton faster in the first and third

sectors on that last lap. Rosberg having the edge in the middle

sector, the sector they are in right now. On board with Jenson Button. He

made a move on the Toro Rosso. That is Daniil Kvyat. I think he held him

on the exit as well. Relatively straight forward and doing what

that'll is trying to do on Hulkenberg. Button in 12, so outside

the points. Hulkenberg. Button in 12, so outside

Magnussen is in 14th. TEAM RADIO: save fuel, where you have longer

gears and a little bit more holy Jese. That is not want you want to

hear when you have Hamilton getting closer and closer. Rosberg being

told he has to save some fuel. It will be the lift and coast. What

they tend to do is to was the braking zone, liftoff the throttle,

coast for eight reset period of time and then hit the brakes as normal.

They get an audio message in their helmet as to when they should lift

and coast so they can get some consistency into the fuel saving.

Look how close Hamilton is now. Back on board with Hamilton. Oversteer on

the exit of that last chicane. Now losing half a second doing this

battle. TEAM RADIO: no penalty for Nico, no penalty for Nico. He is on

his final warning. The next time he does it, he will get a penalty but

is OK for now. Vettel looking for some options. Bottas has come out

behind Jenson Button. In fact, we will keep an eye combat. -- on VAT.

Tom. I wanted to comment on Nico Hulkenberg and his tremendous

performance. Reminds me of racing in Korea last year when he had Lewis

Hamilton in his slipstream and beware to be kept to keep them

astray these behind him. The soft tyre can drive from Montreal to

Vancouver. I think he will go deep. He will pit and then come out on the

super-soft tyres. No tyre warmers problems for him and I think he will

be quick at the end of the race. We have just seen a warm up problem for

Bottas. Just seen the lock-up and that is a symptom of it. TEAM RADIO:

last power, but no power. Hamilton is reporting a loss of power. The

gap between him and Rosberg, we will keep an eye combat. He is quicker in

that middle sector for the first time. Is there a problem and

Hamilton's car? Rosberg is further ahead than he was. Was it a

momentary glitch watched Jamaat they have had this before, a

Tom, you are listening when they went past? Was listening to both

Mercedes engines. TEAM RADIO: we are trying to solve it, Nico. Your

team-mate has the same problem. Hamilton had the same problem and

both virtually at the same time so it hasn't made any difference to the

gap. Incomes Ricciardo. That promotes Alonso into fifth position.

Jenson Button at the back of that group. Where is Vettel in all of

that? He came out in front of Vettel. Vettel has been ahead of him

throughout this Grand Prix. Hamilton seems to be running OK. Both cars

running smoothly. Both cars lost two seconds with relative to

Hulkenberg. The issue that they have experienced the same thing. Both

have done another slow lap. They are both struggling with something. 20

miles an hour slower through the speed trap. It does seem a bit as

bad road cars should be suffering the same problem at the same time.

But Hamilton is getting closer. They are running under good

old-fashioned, internal combustion engine. They are

old-fashioned, internal combustion indeed. Hamilton is less slow than

the two. Got the gap down to harbour second again. Nothing to choose

between them. Hamilton is still chasing Rosberg. They are two or

three seconds a lap slower than the cars behind. They are trying to do a

reset. One raise this year where Jenson Button was told to press a

left Button once and a right Button 13 times to do a reset. Do they have

to do that well still driving at 200 miles an hour? They do. Kimi

Raikkonen on his way in. Both have been told to go to driver default

01. Maybe another car involved. Get restarted and on his way. He did

have a bizarre spin their on Friday in free practice. Not going well the

Kimi Raikkonen this season. He went to about that point on Friday. You

can see his black lines on the right-hand side, those are

Raikkonen's from Friday. TEAM RADIO: Nico, both cars have the same

problem, we don't think we can resolve it. You need to pick the

pace of because P-3 is catching you now. P-3 being Felipe Massa. Read

all is losing out. Vettel is in seventh position and it looks like

those at the head will not make a second pit stop. Mercedes have

plenty of time and opportunity. Rosberg does make a pit stop. Race

leader comes in. It could be a massive opportunity for Lewis

Hamilton. Both cars are not out 100% but they are still fighting for the

victory. Can Rosberg take back-to-back victories? Not a good

stop. A bit of a delay there. It cost him a second over his previous

stop. If they can unleash a two and a half second stop on Hamilton.

Massa goes ahead, takes the lead of the Grand Prix full stop is this --

this is the first time we will see a car other than a Mercedes lead?

Hamilton leads at the moment be with Test but we are awaiting a pit stop.

Maybe we will see another car leading. The gap has been

consistently. Now we know that Williams are going to try to make

the end of the Grand Prix, it seems that the strategy was a bit late

calling bringing in Rosberg. Where is the delay? I think it is front

left. Yes. He is having difficulty getting the nut on. Definitely a

loss of time there. Hamilton will try and take advantage. It is the

car -- is the car going to give him what he needs? Hamilton leading,

Massa second, Rosberg third on the new set of tyres. Massa has been

very quick and recent laps. But can he hang on? How long? Is Hamilton

in? Yes. We will see a different race leader for the first time this

year. Front wing adjustment being made, a flap adjustment. A quick

stop. A chance for Hamilton to take the lead. Massa is in front, but

will he get out in front of Rosberg? That is the question. Massa is just

going to be in front of Hamilton. Massa is in front of the Olympic

Mercedes, the Williams stays in front but it is a 1-stop strategy.

Those tyres have got a long way to go. They have, but you have a

wounded Mercedes, not running at full speed. If the Williams has --

straight speed it will be impossible to pass. Hamilton is ahead of his

team-mate, in front of Nico Rosberg, which is what he wanted

more than anything. To score more points than his team-mate. But the

victory is what he really wants, he has had such success in Canada

before. Can Felipe Massa look after these tyres and stay in front? Let's

look at speed comparisons between the cars. He has straight-line

speed. He can make it work. Hamilton goes wide at the hairpin. Very deep.

He is very close indeed. Let's see... He has DRS. Hamilton will

have to defend. Rosberg has got in front, Hamilton getting back at him.

Side-by-side, there was a touch Czechs Hamilton goes straight

through. Rosberg takes the chicane. Hamilton slows down, he slows down

presumably to let him through because the advantage was taken.

This is great stuff! It is not even for the lead at the moment. Massa

must be looking... Oh, he has smoke off the tyre, maybe damage on his

car. There was a touch. Yes, he has damage on the right rear. Hamilton

in trouble in Canada. We can't quite see, oh, it must be a puncture, it

was lifting, I think you are right, David. Didn't get any radio, we

thought we would hear something there. Is the car sitting at a funny

angle? Trying to spot it. Definitely trouble for Lewis Hamilton. Was as a

result of contact, or some other issue that happened, and he has

unwound at turn ten. He tried to go around the outside in the braking

zone and misses the corner. Is that the point the break failed? -- the

brake failed? It looks like a systematic failure of the right rear

brake. Hamilton's Championship hopes, they will take a big dent. He

has had one non-finish this year. This is going to drop him back. He

may be able to get back to the pits and into this race and still score

points but it is a cruel blow, whatever has happened to Lewis

Hamilton. There is no guarantee Rosberg will finish. He is saying

the brakes have failed. They were worried about brakes. Nicky louder

told us there was a concern about the brakes. Incomes Lewis Hamilton,

what about Rosberg? Is his car in good shape? Felipe Massa leads the

Canadian Grand Prix for Williams. What an amazing story! Rosberg is

second by 3.8 seconds. Jerez third, Riccardo fourth, Vettel fifth, but

in glimpse Lewis Hamilton. There is no great rush to do anything and it

looks as though the Canadian Grand Prix is all over for the British

driver. The venue where he has had so much success, where he was hoping

to reclaim the Championship lead, dismay today for Lewis Hamilton. He

is not going to do it. That was the replay of him running wide at six

and seven. That was Rosberg. Sorry, you are right. Hamilton had gone

wide there as well. Rosberg having issues. Massa has the gap to 3.8

seconds. TEAM RADIO: Looking after the brakes, your team-mate has a

problem, most important you finish now. Looking after the brakes. Massa

has had to make a pit stop. Williams not able to do it on a single. Full

is they have had to go for the second tyre stop. Away goes Massa.

What does this do? It puts Rosberg in front in a car that we don't

think is particularly healthy. Why does Massa come out versus Jerez?

Perez will take second place. Ricciardo will move up into third

position. He will come out behind his own team-mate by the looks of

things. Behind Bottas. He has lost several places as a result of that

and Williams felt they were not going to get to the end. Suddenly,

it changes again. The one chasing Rosberg is Sergio Perez. Look how

much faster Sergio Perez has been on the last few laps. Force India have

a massive opportunity here as Daniel Kvyat seems to be going slowly. He

will retire that car. So, two separate groups here, all on the

lead lap inside the top ten. Rosberg with a one second advantage over

Perez, Riccardo and Vettel, then this gap back to Hulkenberg, the two

Williams of Bottas and Massa and the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso. Jenson

Button in some eight seconds behind this group. A lonely race for Jenson

Button at the moment, six second advantage over Jean-Eric Vergne.

Magnussen 11th, Grosjean advantage over Jean-Eric Vergne.

13th, 14th for Sutil and 15th Gutierrez. Those the 15 cars that

are still running in this Grand Prix. A bit like Monaco it has been

a race of attrition. We lost the two Marussias on the opening lap. TEAM

RADIO: Rat-macro swap positions as soon as you can. Hulkenberg gets the

position back. Williams were telling them to swap around. Massa takes

full advantage of Bottas. Does Massa have a go at Hulkenberg? Felipe

Massa will take fifth place, he does easily in the end. Gets past the

Force India of Nico Hulkenberg. Alonso Bottas. Yet The Ferrari is

chasing. Bottas is trying to line up Hulkenberg. Not quite enough space.

I can see the red light flashing on the back of the Ferrari. A lot of

abrasion on the front right, is there a failure on the front right?

They are looking at the monitor, why is it vibrating? We will not find

out by looking at Felipe Massa's brother, will we? He's running in

front of Alonso. Still running. There is Massa, who is putting away

very quickly, on the chase of Vettel now. Some five seconds to make up.

Bottas, whether or not he has a problem, still seems to be going

OK. Look at Massa, on the fresher tyres. Hulkenberg is on the

super-soft tyres at the moment. Massa is flying. Hulkenberg really

struggling on the super-soft tyres to fend off the guys behind him.

That is why it is proving difficult. Bottas has dropped back a bit there.

It was weird, bouncing uncontrollably on the front right.

Rosberg leads, Perez second, uncontrollably on the front right.

Riccardo on the attack. Massa will be on the back of that group any

time soon. Absolutely flying, the Brazilian Felipe Massa. He has set a

new fastest lap, 95, over a second faster than these guys. They are

being held under a little bit by Rosberg, Rosberg is just about

managing his pace. Here is Felipe Massa, with just over ten laps to go

with the Canadian Grand Prix hunting down that leading quartet. TEAM

RADIO: Good job. The other thing about Felipe Massa as he has

excellent straight-line speed. He and Bottas are the fastest in a

straight line at the moment at 341 kilometres an hour. Vettel hunting

in the back of Riccardo. He is wanting DRS. Still the world

champion trying to find a way past his team-mate. Oak! Over speeding

there. Overrunning the corner. Getting too close to the back of his

team-mate. Unable to convert it into a gain of position. You can see how

he has gained just a little bit two tenths here, two tenths there, but

follow another car and the tyres begin to suffer. Rosberg, still in

front, coming across the line. He completes lap number 59. Goes on to

lap 60 out of 70. Managing the situation here, Rosberg. We know

there is a problem with the car. We are on board with Fernando Alonso,

as he goes on Bottas. Bottas has no response, I think, Alonso takes the

place and it seems that Bottas is in some trouble with his car. He has

been pushed down to eighth position as a result of that and let's take

another look. It is a DRS pass, see the red light flashing on the back

of the Ferrari. An indication they have the thing, a reduction in the

amount of power. Rosberg, hopping over the kerb, look how close Massa

is now. Again, another good lap from him. 1.19.0. Alonso, 1.18.9, Alonso

trying to close the gap with the Force India ahead of him. Perez

starting on the super-soft tyre, it did seem to be the better strategy

slightly. Hulkenberg was the one who started on the soft tyre. A message

played out a Massa from his engineer telling him to go to multifunction

position a and position one. Well, eight and one all sounds good to me.

It sounds as though they are giving him the power this afternoon. He

will have a look down into the hairpin. He does not need to take a

gamble on the exit at this corner. He will have the horsepower and

DRS, ride and watched to see whether Felipe Massa can get past Sebastian

Vettel as we come down the straight towards the final chicane. Is he

going to be close enough? Not at this rate, not -- may be on the next

one. He needs a good run through here. But Vettel is taking some

chances as well. He just maintains the gap. It is going to be another

lap at least for Felipe Massa. Look how close Rosberg that is. Rosberg,

the race leader, you can see from the on-board camera despite Massa

being in fifth, how close that opportunity is. Massa and chased the

champagne. -- can taste the champagne. A couple of guys to get

on the podium. They are getting DRS, because they are following one

another. Nico Rosberg, the race leader is not,. He has younger

tyres. He has experience. He should be there. He has never had

particularly good results in panel -- in Canada in the past. He has not

finished on the podium before. He finished fourth, in 2005. A great

opportunity today. Rosberg has taken half a second consistently ask

Vettel has to go very deep, comprising his exit. Massa will come

at him. Definitely, Vettel is tried -- desperate to try to have a go. He

knows what is coming. Felipe Massa is just going to blast past the Red

Bull. He's not doing his DRS. That is very strange. He has ended up

losing out as a result and now he has lost the opportunity because he

has lost too much time to make up the difference on the second DRS. I

wonder why that was? TEAM RADIO: Pull out the towing places where you

cannot that overtaking. Heat is a factor for all of these guys in this

group and Felipe Massa, from what looked as though it will be a

straightforward, just dropped back a bit, did not use DRS, very strange.

Five laps to go, podium is possible but it looks like Vettel goes deep,

runs wide, correct, Massa has to back out of it a little bit. Then

let's try and keep with this and hopefully we will see if he did use

his DRS. Maybe it shut early. We will have to see. He will have

another opportunity on the exit of the next corner. Still Nico Rosberg

controlling this race. Can he hold on?

Perez is struggling for brakes. Write down the outside. Ricciardo

goes into second. He gets it back. He cannot quite do it and Massa is

at the back of the group. Ricciardo will go chasing after Roseberg. This

could be more demanding. Can Perez hold on? Chase by Sebastian Vettel.

Vettel is looking for another podium finish but they have been thin on

the ground. He would love to get back onto the podium. It looks like

Ricciardo has eight towns of charging Massa in the Williams. The

Stauber is going very slowly. It is a chance of Ricciardo. He goes past

rows back to take the lead in the Canadian Grand Prix. Daniel

Ricciardo is in front with just a couple of laps to go. How about

that? Daniel Ricciardo fighting his way past Perez, but patience has

paid off. Perez is still keeping Sebastian Vettel behind him. Look at

the response. Everybody soaking up the atmosphere. The Roseberg, of

course, vital points are still on offer. He still has got to try and

get as many points as possible. This is how Ricciardo got it. Yes, he

used the DRS. Roseberg isn't applying full power. Only six miles

between his first victory for Daniel Ricciardo. What a season he has had

so far. Incredible. He was cheered in Australia at the beginning of the

year... Perez is wide and that is a chance for Vettel. It will be his

best chance of all. He goes to the inside. Yes, he will get it done.

Perez will have to break earlier. Sebastian Vettel has snatched third

position. Might not be much longer or Perez to hold on. Perez, Vettel

just missed. Felipe Massa, heavily into the barriers. It has taken

Sergio Perez out as well. On the final lap, we have yellow at that

area. Perez in the car at the moment. He is moving, that is good

to see. The steering wheel is of. It is always a good sign to see the

driver beginning to get out of the car. Medical car in attendance.

Daniel Ricciardo has one. Felipe Massa moving and speaking to the

medic. It looks as though he is OK. What a dramatic ending and what a

shame for the two drivers who were having such a brilliant race. This

could be the first signs of an issue when you get this clipping towards

the end of the straight. You get an offset in speed. Massa was going for

full charge over speed. They are both OK by the looks of it. Daniel

Ricciardo gets to savour the last lap of winning his first ever Grand

Prix. TEAM RADIO: nobody can overtake you, you have won the race.

We are on the safety car, Daniel Ricciardo is winning his first Grand

Prix. Roseberg finishes in second place. Hamilton fails to score any

and Vettel on the podium once again. But it is his Australian team-mate

who has taken his first ever Grand Prix win. What a moment it is for

this young man. This is the replay. Massa not expecting the deceleration

and clips the rear. Perez puts back to take his breaking. As Massa lined

up for the inside, misjudged it and goes between Vettel amber kerb.

Thankfully it looks like both drivers are OK. Massive hit. Hugely

fast. Let's see from Perez's point of view. Lets go of the steering

wheel. Another big hit. Daniel Ricciardo has put himself in the

history books now. Ricciardo, the winner in Canada.

Let's can't buy the results. Daniel Ricciardo's first ever Formula One

victory. Jenson Button sneaking up to fourth and Kimi Raikkonen

grinding out the top ten. It leaves the championship looking like this.

Not much movement in terms of the construct this championship. Let's

hear from the main players. Daniel Ricciardo, you are a Grand Prix race

winner, that doesn't sound too bad? It sounds awesome. It sounds

terrific. Really good. Still seems surreal. When I crossed the line,

because it happened so closely. I was third and then crossed the line

in first. It wasn't like I had a lot of laps to understand I was going to

win the race. But it all just happened. Congratulations to

Daniel. His first win. I am happy for him and happy for the team.

After such a horrible winter it is nice to finally break through. To

capitalise when Mercedes had a problem. The finished second is OK.

Of course it is disappointing because we want to win every race.

The car had a problem but to finish second is OK. What a disappointing

day, how are you feeling? OK. OK. Nothing I could do about it, I did

the best I could. It is a shame for the team we did not get the 1-2 we

were hoping for. Was there any problem with Nico, or did the brakes

fail? The brakes failed. Is the car feeling better? It is not backward.

There were incidents and we gained position because of that. There is a

better feel about the car, we are making progress. Straightforward

race, we would not have finished fourth. But we did a good job of

making the best of what we have and the team should be happy to get some

good points. Let's move on from this. Eddie, Daniel Ricciardo, his

first Formula One win and what style he did it in? He probably woke up

this morning and was thinking that a top five would be nice. He comes

away from this place of having his first win, and in Canada. He will

never forget this moment. Mercedes had problems, and also Sebastian

Vettel on the podium, it was a great day for the team? The record books

will never show the problems people have. Some people may remember but

the reality is Daniel Ricciardo won his first race in a Red Bull. What

an inspired decision that was nine months ago to promote him into the

team. He is a joy to work with and is great for the team. The racing

gods were not with Lewis Hamilton? We have seen that too many times,

when Lewis is looking for extra lock and guidance, it runs away from him.

I hope he can keep his strength because he does have the speed and

we want to see a big fight in this championship and we know these two

will have plenty of tussles between now and the end of the season. Let's

hope Lewis can move on. The crash between Sergio Perez and Felipe

Massa. Both drivers are OK. Jenson Button moving forward and taking

fourth? Back to the two drivers, and thankfully as we know they are in

good shape, sitting up and talking in hospital while they get checked

out. When I saw the accident and the speed, it looked nasty. Full marks

to the cars and safety features. I did think the track did a good job

because the angle was predictable in terms it ounce the car back out.

There will be at three penalty grid penalty for Max Chilton in Austria?

It is the decision. He will have to move on. An epic Formula One race in

Canada? My best ever and favourite Grand Prix is Jenson Button winning

here. I don't know what it is about Canada but it dishes up Hlasek races

and this one is up there. Let's hope we get a classic when we go to

Austria. Today it was Daniel Ricciardo who charged his Red Bull
