The Spanish Grand Prix - Highlights Formula 1

fourth. The raining World Champions have a lot of work to do to win the

Constructors Championship. They are 97 points down on Mercedes. In a

moment all of the race action for you but first here is the story of

qualifying with Tom. Qualifying started with a bang when

Pastor Maldonado crashed on his first flying lap. A winner here for

Williams, he will start from the back of the grid. There was however

better news on the other side of the Lotus garage, where Grosjean Romain

Grosjean put together his George Best performance -- best

performance. It was disappointing for Ferrari whose chairman paid a

visit on Friday to rally the troops but it wasn't enough to inspire

local hero Fernando Alonso who starts seventh, with Kimi Raikkonen

sixth. Sebastian Vettel's luck continues to desert him. He failed

to complete a lap in Q3 and are a replacement means he gets a grid

penty so he starts from 15th. There were no problems at Mercedes whose

drivers treated us to a sensational dice for pole position. Lewis

Hamilton pipping his team-mate Nico Rosberg by over a tenth of a second

to take his fourth pole of the year. It was such a great day, today I was

struggling, even if I got second, I would have, it would have been

expected because I was struggling so much with car. To be able to get

that lap and be ahead of Nico, still I was ecstatic.

Ricciardo is best with Valtteri Bottas an impressive fourth for

Williams. Grosjean leads the Ferraris.

Felipe Massa starts ninth with Hulkenberg rounding out the top ten.

Perez starts on row six with Kevin Magnussen. Sebastian Vettel is 15th

after that five place grid penalty. Max Chilton is the lead Marussia

driver, then come the Caterhams and Jean-Eric Vergne and Maldonado prop

up the back of the grid, Vergne paying the price for a loose wheel

during practise and ten place penalty.

We have 66 laps of the Spanish Grand Prix to go at the Circuit de

Catalunya. Lights out, away we go! Hamilton getting off the line

beautifully. I think he has the advantage over Rosberg. Very fast

starting. Grosjean made a good start. He loses pace, he locks up.

Hamilton leads into the first corner and Ricciardo holds on to fourth. He

has lost to Bottas in the Williams. The Williams has been quick off the

line all year long. We go further down the pack here, with Sebastian

Vettel, as he tries to battle his way through the order, starting out

of 15th. Kimi Raikkonen ahead of Fernando Alonso, Alonso so far not

been able to beautiful one of his first lap move. He is under

pressure, Alonso wide into five. There was a bit of bumping, so far

so good. Vettel in the middle. . Look at that. Wheel-to-wheel stuff

with the Sauber. They have the advantage of the break in to seven.

He has backed out. This is unusual territory. Some time it is some time

since he has been starting that far down the grid. Let us look out for

where it went wrong for Jenson Button. He didn't seem to get a

launch off the line, losing place, and as they find their way down,

this has been the scene of some coming together. A big lock from

Grosjean. Whether that leads to flat spots that remains to be seen.

Daniel Ricciardo left space. One of the Marussias ran wide through turn

two. It bunches up at turn two. You see onboard from Daniel Ricciardo.

Very low RPM as they come off the line. Look at the start from the

Mercedes powered engines he was looking like he was going to drop

down a further place as he ran into the braking zone there, leave a wide

line, leaves a space. Very sensible manoeuvre. He knows he has number

two, or corner two coming up. He settles into position. You run that

close to the car in front your front axe --s -- axle loses downforce.

Very short shift to first gear then a lot of wheel spin. Takes to the

green, loses drive as a consequence of that, and it was a fraught first

lap then for Magnussen. We have some... That was the two McLarens

and Jenson Button, showing some manners to his young team-mate. One

of the Caterhams getting a bit wide, and then, having to go across the

kerb. That was Maldonado. Maldonado. On Eriksson. I don't know how many

spare parts he has. RADIO: Drop back to two seconds gap.

Look after the tyres. And that is the tough, how do you decide, Are

you in a position to overtake or do you have to look after the tyres?

Well, that is down to the driver's judgment. It looks he is able to put

enough pressure on Bottas to keep going. The team clearly not thinking

that barring any reliability for Mercedes, for those who are just

tuned in, are six seconds down the road after five laps of racing, and

so this is the battle for third place effectively. It looks to Medan

yell is getting into -- Daniel is getting into position.

Driving off turn 16, on to the start finish straight. If Daniel is close

he will get DRS but less 10 km/h. It will be laid lathe by the time he is

able to get on to his gearbox. There is Alonso. He is having a go. Daniel

Ricciardo is into turn one. Bottas sees him coming. Gives him space and

Ricciardo fails to make it stick Ten out of ten for effort and great

driving from Bottas. Here comes Vettel. He has a real opportunity

now, he will have to move to the outside, he will try and go round

the outside. Underbraking, a fairly brave thing to dry try. It will give

him the outside line for a moment. He sneaks through, to Vettel stuck

with it That is a brave move. That is brilliant. Know there is a lot of

doubters who think he is, most of his winning from the front, to go

round the outside it is an off camber corner, you rely a lot on the

guy you are attacking to not squeeze you, I suspect if that had been a

more experienced driver he would have opened his steering and allowed

the car to drift, pushing Sebastian out on to the artificial grass. That

would have been fair enough. In the end he got the pass done. Let us see

when Button got past Gutierrez. Gutierrez defended to the inside.

Just a massive overspeed, the combination of DRS, slipstream, and

also the knowledge that there is a replay of Sebastian going round the

outside. Small lock up there from Gutierrez, but in the end, it was

just able to get a clean line round the outside, and, complete the pass.

This is Button versus Sebastian Vettel, for 12th position, onboard

with Button. A bit of overrun from Sebastian Vettel You can do that at

five. We saw in Lewis Hamilton's qualifying lap he ran a bit wide,

relative to Rosberg. Because the circuit opens and drops down the

hill, it doesn't cost you as much. Not saying he deliberately went

there, I thought he was trying to get himself on to gearbox of Button.

You saw how hard he was working through nine. Red Bull squirrelling

round. It is not used it is not something we are used to seeing.

Usually it looks so planted to the track. It is partly the nature of

the new regulation, more horsepower, more torque delivery and a reduction

in the downforce You can see how much more memberal grip that Red

Bull was generating through the slow section. Expect to see the McLaren a

bit as they come off 16. Early stop for Vettel. That is, even on a three

stop strategy. Maybe it is just to release him from behind Button.

Playing the game a bit. You might see a longer second stint coming up

for Sebastian Vettel here. This... Goes on the hard tyre This

will pop him to back of field. We have Ericsson who is the last of the

runners coming out of the last chicane. He will hope by the time he

catches up to the back of field they will be pit organise he will get

clean air. I suspect he will get traffic earlier than he may have

planned. He is out behind Chilton and Kobayashi, he is ahead of

Ericsson. This is the race for third That was a very late call for

Vettel. He was in the pit lane when the mechanics were still coming out

to the box. What a well oiled machine they are, despite the late

call. Literally no no more than five seconds, they were still ready for

him. Ricciardo in. Ricciardo in, so Red

Bull bringing both cars in relatively early. Ricciardo did a

long stint over 20 laps on Friday, on this tyre, but plans the

overnight rain has made a difference to that. Perhaps they are trying to

use this to their benefit. He stays on the medium tyre, the softer of

the two. We are hearing on the radio that Rosberg has been told they are

planning to put the harder tyre on Rosberg's car, we may see a split in

strategy between Hamilton and Rosberg, we saw it in Bahrain,

remember, when they were racing against each other, they split the

strategies. . That last lap is a further four tenths quicker. He is

more comfortable at this point and calling for the softer tyre. Vettel

on Kobayashi as he has had that pit-stop an determined to make the

use of his new tires, let us see how he got past This is underbraking

down into ten. He tried it in nine. He has had the momentum initially.

That is going to be a difficult call, to try and do it into nine.

Kobayashi racing for position. Hamilton is in from the lead. Lewis

Hamilton into the pits as Rosberg has just set his best personal lap,

of the race so far. There was a front wing adjustment. Didn't look

at if that was the quickest stop we have seen, there is no need to take

a risk. It is interesting to see whether Rosberg is given a couple of

laps the see if he can do anything. I suspect Hamilton with the fresher

tyres. Looks like he lost over a second in that pit-stop. 3.8 seconds

is not that fast. Two-and-a-half seconds is the margin. He didn't

have much to play for. It was just under 2 seconds, so that could be

crucial. Let us just watch Alonso. This was Raikkonen coming out in

front of Alonso. Let us see how close this really was, we knew it

was close. A lock up from Alonso, Raikkonen is on the inside, and

Raikkonen just managed to emerge in front. I can see Mercedes in the pit

lane. So the hard out of the blankets, waiting for Rosberg to

come and have his car services. See how they do. 3.8 for Hamilton's

stop. It is the hard tyre going onboard. Away goes Nico Rosberg, so

how far will he be behind Hamilton? Will he be behind Hamilton? One

second quicker. Hamilton is overtaking Ericsson. There goes

Hamilton, just past Rosberg as they come down to turn one, gets the

slipstream past Marcus Ericsson and Nico Rosberg rejoins in that second

place, so ultimately, it hasn't made a huge difference, Hamilton is still

in front. RADIO: What do I need now? How many

laps? We need to increase the gap by about four seconds over the next 20

lap, so we need to look after these tyres, build that gap. Your position

is safe, you need two seconds from Lewis at the end of this stint.

Now we know the story, one needs four seconds the other needs two.

That is music to Lewis's years, he knows he is on the option tyre

relative to his team-mate, Nico Rosberg, and that will be pretty

sold a -- soul destroying for Nico. Raikkonen having a go at getting

past Grosjean, Grosjean comes back at him, they almost touch, these two

former team-mates last year at Lotus. They go wheel to wheel into

the first corner, Raikkonen losing out. That was a great attempt from

Raikkonen, Grosjean swept to the inside to defend the position. In

the end, Raikkonen carried too much speed through one, realised he was

at risk of running over the kerb. Grosjean came back at him, expect

more of this, allowing Alonso to sneak back up. As Alonso dropped

back to preserve his tyres, or does he have an issue? He has DRS

overspeed, he makes a move to the right quite late on, that might be

questionable. You have to make your intentions clear quite early, but

then Grosjean comes back at him. They didn't touch, but they came

very close. Hamilton saying his rear end is everywhere! He is not happy

with the handling of the car, and if the hard tyre suddenly becomes the

better race tyre, they all expected it to be the medium tyre, but things

can change - we have had overnight rain and moreover is going down, the

tractors change. If he thinks he has problems, last time around he was

still the fastest man on the racetrack - imagine how it must feel

to be in some of the other cars! Interesting stuff, can you imagine

the respective engineers within the Mercedes team passing that

information between their drivers, trying to decide how much

information to give? Red Bull out in the pit lane again. That is probably

going to be for Vettel, I would think. Massa is into the pits. It

looks like he went past, they were getting ready to serve as one of the

cars, and Vettel, if it was him, running behind Grosjean, decided to

go for another lap. Lester Red Bull guys tricked Williams into coming

out. -- unless. They have been known to do that, it is not something you

will get away with more than once. In the interests of safety, you

cannot just keep them out all the time. It looks like Massa is on a

three-stop, and it may be his team-mate is on a two stock, going

slightly different on strategies here. -- two -stop. Just under half

distance in the Spanish Grand Prix, upfront the battle is between the

Mercedes team-mate of Hamilton and Rosberg, and Hamilton is now 4.3

seconds ahead. Despite his complaints about the handling of the

car, he has gained a bit more time over his team-mate. Hamilton,

Rosberg, Ricciardo, the other Red Bull still running well, looking at

a potential podium. Alonso is tied up in traffic, tucked in behind

Kevin Magnussen, and ahead of Magnussen, a bit further down the

road is Kvyat. Alonso makes the move and Kevin Magnussen.

Magnussen had DRS from the car that went into the pits. Eagles wide

through one, will Magnussen come back at him? No, he covers it. -- he

goes wide. He is so used to going into turn one with the normal drag

on the car, and with DRS you are seeing speeds of well over 200 mph.

Hulkenberg has been in for his second stop, so as Jenson Button, he

should be able to get to the end from here. A move down the inside

for Vettel, gaining position from Massa? Yeah, a good move for

Sebastian Vettel. He has been told he needs maximum pace, I think they

are going for three stops. He has not been told to look after the

tyres, and that has gotten past Felipe Massa. 30.5 last lap, still

0.7 quicker than the leading car of Hamilton, taking everything out of

those fresh tyres. You see Alonso running a bit steep through turn

one, marginal through two, but Kevin Magnussen not able to do anything in

response. This is Vettel going past Massa. Into turn five, making use of

the fresh tyres, sees a gap. Very nice indeed and not far behind the

Ferrari... A little lock-up as he goes past Magnussen, Magnussen may

get a chance, he goes around the outside. He is not going to get it

like that. That was a replay of what just happened, Vettel dealing with

Magnussen. Box, box, we will come down three turns. Three turns on the

front wing, presumably, a fairly major change to improve the balance

of the car. So this final pit stop, let's see what happens for Lewis

Hamilton when he comes in. He has not come in yet, has he? That is

interesting. He obviously has decided to stay out a little bit

longer. The guys had the tyres out of the blankets and rushing back

into get them back in the blankets. That is clearly a miscommunication.

You would not want, if they are genuinely tyres for the car, you

would not want to be losing temperature from the blankets. The

tyres have now been brought back out of the blankets very early, and in

he goes. Rosberg has lost time in the middle sector, so for whatever

reason, Rosberg losing a bit of time. As long as this pit stop is

clean, Hamilton should be in tremendous shape to continue his

winning form this season. And there was a little delay, remember, on the

first pit stop. It is not the fastest pit stop that we have seen

from Mercedes, but probably not enough to actually allow Nico

Rosberg a chance. Look, 4.3 seconds, a slow start, but whether it will be

enough - it will certainly give Rosberg a fighting chance. Tom. From

what I can see, the front was absolutely fine on that pit stop for

Lewis Hamilton, the delay was somewhere at the rear. I could not

see, but somewhere at the rear, hence the four-second stop. The

double lost over stops has cost him... Well, a few seconds from his

team-mate. We will see how Rosberg gets on. Losing time from Greening,

those harder tyres seem to have done enough for Rosberg. -- graining. He

has done 22 laps on that set of tyres. Can we see anything from the

thermal imaging camera that tells you whether he is losing heat? It is

still spreading across the outside pretty well. Into the pits has come

Kimi Raikkonen. Alonso will be ahead of him, yeah, Raikkonen has lost a

lot in this stint, hasn't he? It has all turned nasty for Raikkonen

through that stint, and interesting to see the emotion in the

conversations. Hamilton was on the radio saying, why are you saying

three turns down on the front wing? I don't understand why you are doing

three, just do the normal two. Very clear, a clear message. Strength of

conviction in there. Riding with Rosberg, he is staying out. A good

lap last time around, but Hamilton is now on the hard tyre himself, and

we will see what kind of pace Hamilton can do. Rosberg will be

switching to the softer tyre. Meanwhile, Raikkonen's stop has put

out behind not just Alonso but Vettel as well, but we are expecting

Vettel to make another stop. No doubt the two Ferraris have swapped

around as a result of that last stint, and Alonso has taken full

advantage. Alonso running in fifth position currently. Just to explain

on the terms, it is not something which is the same for every team, of

course, it depends on the configuration of how much a turn

actually moves the flap. In terms of a racing car, you are trying to

balance the aerodynamics like a set of scales. It is like adding load on

the front axle or taking load off as the wing goes through the air and

pushes the car into the ground. The Mercedes team are coming out for

Rosberg's stop. This is interesting, Romain Grosjean on the back of

Felipe Massa. We saw Grosjean struggling earlier at the end of the

straight, but he seems to be going all right at the moment. Was my last

lap too slow? Pace was good in that stint. Why did you bring me in? We

are keeping you on the optimum strategy, Lewis. So Rosberg makes

his pit stop, where is Hamilton? Halfway down the main straight

already, and Rosberg will come out behind his team-mate. He has just

got to hope that the softer tyre gives him the edge in the last part

of the race, but it is not going to be very likely, and Adrian Sutil

will get in front of him. He has got traffic to deal with as well, and

this is going to be a very tall order. In for another stop is Daniel

Ricciardo, so Daniel Ricciardo is looking to get that third place,

remember, but making the stop and on his way once more. Very quick stop

from the crew, and in fact Bottas stopping at the same time, look, 2.4

seconds. Valtteri Bottas unable to go to the end of the race on his

tyres, so that kind of order, third and fourth, is what we are looking

at for Ricciardo and Bottas. Here is Bottas. Great camera angle - if you

like brake flaps! That seemed a very fast. It was not as quick,

actually, three seconds. That is the total time lost that Hamilton has

had over his team-mate this afternoon, so you can see how

important that teamwork is during the pit stop. It will be interesting

to try to understand where the time loss was. Clearly, you can see, if

the gap between them was less than that, it would have given Rosberg

the advantage this afternoon. This is all getting quite close, Massa in

eighth place chased by the black and gold Lotus of Grosjean, then the two

Force Indias, who are still tied together by a piece of elastic. It

has not got much longer than about 1.3 seconds throughout the race. On

board with Grosjean, in the twisty sections he will have to take

advantage of the Williams. How much time did we lose in the pit stop?

Nico lost more with traffic, let's not worry about that, just knuckle

down, 21 laps remaining on the prime tyre. Nico is now on the option. It

is a need to know basis. That was a great answer, almost like

psychologists, dealing with the driver, or politicians. He did not

answer the question! 13 laps to go, and Rosberg will need every ounce of

energy he can get out of those Pirelli tyres as Ferrari get ready

for a stop. So Alonso is back in - Fernando Alonso is back in, so a

third pit stop for the Ferrari. I wonder if Raikkonen is going to be

able to go through to the end stop he will go back onto the medium

compound. Raikkonen coming out of the last corner, this will be pretty

close, and I think Raikkonen will get the jump on him. He is indeed.

This will put Raikkonen in front of his team-mate, but his team-mate

will be the one on the fresher tyre, and as he rejoins... Nip and tuck

with Vettel. Vettel sweeps through, and they are both on good tyres,

remember, because Vettel has also just been into the pits. Both guys

will now be trying to chase the cars ahead. Kimi Raikkonen will be their

main targets, and it looks as though he will be trying to get to the end

of the race. It could be hard for him to stay in front of both the Red

Bull and his team-mate here. Back on board with Vettel, who is now right

behind Kimi Raikkonen. He went off the track and got away with it, but

two seconds he has taken out of Raikkonen, so we will get himself

into position coming out of nine at the top of the hill to try to pass

down into ten. Alonso, behind, is dropping back. Raikkonen, a twist of

oversteer as he went through the apex. He will be too far back to

take a dive, or will he? Years having a go down the inside,

Raikkonen saw him coming. -- he is having. Meanwhile, when Hamilton's

engineer says they will look into it, they will be studying the

real-time data from the cars and trying to advise on the loads, the

aerodynamic loads have changed. You can go B minus two. So they are

giving him some set of changes that he can effect from the steering

wheel. That sounds like brake balance minus two. That will help

the car on the entry into corners, presumably. This is how Vettel swept

past Kimi Raikkonen. He is having an aggressive drive this afternoon,

Sebastian, he has had to make some brave moves. Front wing damage on

the Sauber from contact, I would suspect. Well, I think Sebastian is

just enjoying this race farm or than any other he has done this year. --

far more. He did start in 15th position on the grid, whereas Daniel

Ricciardo was right up front in third place. So can he do it this

time? He tucks right in behind the Williams, this has to be a huge

opportunity, a bit of a slide from Bottas through the last corner. The

Mercedes power in the Williams, though, very strong in a straight

line. Again, he can't get close enough. Again, nip and tuck between

Hamilton and Rosberg. Rosberg is quicker in the first sector, they

are the same in the second. 1.1 was the gap last time. Alonso comes with

the overspeed, Raikkonen goes defensive. Raikkonen will do the

cutback, meanwhile Rosberg is within 0.9 of Hamilton, in the DRS zone.

Alonso will look for the exit on turn three, a potential overtaking

spot-on the approach to turn four. He has lined it up beautifully down

the inside, Fernando Alonso gets passed his team-mate. Ferrari go

racing, and that is what we want to see, and so do the fans in the

grandstands. Rosberg has gained two tenths on

Hamilton in the first sector. We are in the closing stages and Lewis

Hamilton can see his mirrors beginning to fill ever more with his

team-mate Nico Rosberg. What a race this has been between the two of

them. Not yet the wheel-to-wheel confrontation of Bahrain but

pressure the whole way through. It seems that Rosberg has the momentum

he didn't quite have in Bahrain. He is quicker in the last sector, he

was about the same in the middle sector. Rosberg is going to close up

even further, and that is the pressure that Hamilton has been

under. Rosberg has been tidier in this last sector. Is it enough? This

is beautiful racing. And let us see what Sebastian Vettel did to get

past Valtteri Bottas in the end. Fairly simple. He went for it down

into turn ten, so the straight line spiel of the Williams wasn't such an

issue. That brings Vettel up into fourth place. Look at the two

Mercedes, two laps to go. The DRS in operation, Hamilton having a quick

look in his many error, Rosberg may only get one chance to do this, can

he get past Lewis Hamilton, to take victory? Neither of them have ever

won this Spanish Grand Prix. I am going to close my eyes, bench

Talk Talk me through it. -- Ben. You will miss out on something special.

The revenge for Bahrain is what Nico Rosberg is looking for, he got

beaten by Lewis Hamilton on the day it looked as though Rosberg has the

pace but Hamilton outraced him. Rosberg wants to get him back Anyone

just tuning in, we have Hamilton leading on the prime tyre which is

not as quick and it is all down to how they have managed them as they

get into the last couple of laps of this Grand Prix. Wonderful stuff,

and Mercedes allowing these guys to go race, they will lap Kimi

Raikkonen who is in seventh position, which is remarkable in

itself. Could he play a part in the outcome toff of this Will Raikkonen

play ball? Let us wait and see. The pressure on both of them here as

they try and extract every thousand of a second. You are onboard with

Rosberg. Watching the back of Hamilton's car. Up ahead is the

Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen. Rosberg is as close as he has been.

Looks like Hamilton is too far back to get the DRS from Raikkonen.

Hamilton focussed on the final lap and Rosberg, has he got a chance?

This is great for Hamilton. Raikkonen gets past, good driving

from Raikkonen. Really allowing them both past That caught Hamilton by

surprise. Raikkonen has just lifted well out of the power, and there was

no need to sort of jink out of that slipstream so much, but Hamilton

will have all eyes on the road ahead, but you have this peripheral

vision of the change of colour in your mirror, you know when there is

another car hunting you down, and well, he will have a glance before

all the key area, concentrate on your exit. He won't feel any

concern, he will glance in the mirrors now, he will be breathing

through seven, he knows he has to get a great drive up the hill. He

can't afford to make a mistake in nine. Where the pressure builds is

in the braking zone at ten, last lap round, he locked the rear and then

slid and then had a locking of the front tyre. That will be in his

mind. He will have to be braking cautious. You can see Rosberg tries

to squeeze up against him. But it is Rosberg who gets that

little bit of a lock up. I think it has just cost him a length or so. It

will be the chequered flag awaiting for them, as they come out of the

final section, just got the chicane on the last corner turn 16 to go,

and Rosberg has not quite been able to get there. What a heroic effort,

what a brilliant performance by both Mercede drivers but it is Lewis

Hamilton who takes his fourth straight win of 2014. His first ever

win in Barcelona. He BAs his team-mate to take the lead in the

World Championship. What a way to do it. Under pressure to the chequered

flag but a brilliant performance again from the Englishman.

Lewis Hamilton, the winner here, in Spain. Fourth straight win of the

season, putting him to the top of the points standings for the first

time in nearly two years. So to confirm the result. There it

is. Daniel Ricciardo a brilliant third

for him. Sebastian Vettel fourth, his best of the season. Valtteri

Bottas in fifth and Fernando Alonso sixth. Nico Hulkenberg rounding out

the top ten. In terms of the drives' Championship it looks like this.

There is a new leader in the form of Lewis Hamilton. Just three points

the difference between them him an his team-mate Nico Rosberg. Fernando

Alonso third, Sebastian Vettel fourth, Ricciardo fifth and Nico

Hulkenberg in sixth. The Constructors Championship looks

the same. Red Bull are second. Ferrari third, Force India fourth

and Williams are up to fifth place. Now let us hear from the main

players. To get four wins in a row, it is just, I can't, I just, I can't

really get my head round it. It is incredible. Nico made it difficult

for me today, and that, I don't take that lightly. Bit by bit I am

banging on that door and banging on Nico's. It is difficult when you are

in the scenarios like this. Nico is strong mentally, to break that and

keep attacking it. Weekend after weekend, he is a very -- he is very

strong throughout the race, but to be in the lead, I mean, again, I

come in -- I can't remember theless time I with us in the lead in the

Championship. I will enjoy the moment but there a long way to go.

In terms of the psychological battle you and Lewis seem to have. It he

said it is important to break you down mentally, because that is your

strength. Lewis is a friend but he is your biggest rival. How tough is

it? Break me down mentally, that is good to know! I think he will

struggle with that one, but no, you know, I am positively focussed, but

of course he has the momentum, because there is no way round that,

when you get the results it gives you that bit extra momentum and I

need to try and break that down, so yes, vice versa, try and do the same

thing, and next opportunity is Monaco. The start didn't get off as

well as we would have liked. We had damage limitation. Tries to get

Bottas in the first, there was times when I was feeling racy as we say,

but then it was just about the strategy, team said let us try and

undercut. I was happy to do that. It was more fun than the last race

where I had to let people by. Yes, realise I am not quick enough, but

think all in all it was the maximum we could do. The start was bad. I

lost the place I think to Adrian, and then I was able to get it back

towards the end of the lap, but it is always tricky when you back

there, very busy first lap, and then I was sort of stuck in the train.

Couldn't really feel how far we could go today and how quick we

were, once we came in, and I was able on the harder tyre to stick

with the people in front and even catch a bit, I think we realised

that the pace was there, so after that we had the two from yesterday

which we didn't use in qualifying, and I had to go further up the road.

I enjoyed it and it was the best we could do. It took a while to get the

blood coursing through the veins but the last ten laps they were really

exciting, Mercedes providing so much entertainment for us Out front it

was a real battle form this victory, it was not just about the 25 points,

it was about who was going to have the upper hand. There was the great

battle that we saw from Sebastian Vettel coming through from 15th, to

finish fourth. The Ferrari driver, three stops for Alonso, two for

rake, they weren't giving an inch. We saw an step forward from

Williams. Valtteri Bottas a solid fifth place In the end they didn't

have the race pace, they are struggling for the development of

the aerodynamic performance, overall it is a solid performance from

Williams, when you consider where they were coming from last year.

Perhaps the same could be said for Lotus with Grosjean. He performed

well. Great performance in qualifying. I am impressed with how

he kept his head. When you consider what a terrible time they have had

through testing and in the opening Grand Prix, he has kept his focus,

delivered when the car has given him an opportunity. That is a real boost

for them. Lewis Hamilton reigned in Spain and goes ahead in the World
