Final Round Highlights Golf: PGA Championship

Henman. You do not have to look far back to find the last home winner of

this prestigious BMW PGA Championship. Four years ago and

Luke Donald. -- Helen. And the man greatly fancied to follow in his

stead, the new Masters champion, Danny Willett, who at one point was

in the lead by five shots on Friday but since then he has struggled and

stumbled. Now he finds the likes of fellow Englishman Tyrell Hatton and

Lee Westwood ahead of him coming into the final day. The one they all

chasing is the wily veteran Scott Hend of Australia and on the line

for him to then and for so many others in the next is one of the

biggest and richest titles on the European Tour. For three days went

worth has been dressed in all its late spring finery. Chance for

players to show off their very best. For much of the tournament the

master himself has been on top. Yet Danny Willett has not been without

its problems. On Saturday straying from the beating heart, moving day

dropping him into the chasing pack on 6-under. Going forward was Lee

Westwood. When most others were full train he has come so close to

victory here in the past and managed a 68, 7-under in total. Part of a

very strong English challenge, just one shot further back was Chris

Wood, who also managed a 68. Best placed of all was the man from just

100, sorry's own Tyrell Hatton found 66, the lowest round of the day. He

very nearly had the lead on his own but for Scott Hend, who also had his

disagreements with the West Course but once more his power brought him

a closing leader to see him sitting on shot clear. The field is lining

up behind him. So many now with a chance to claim the title on Sunday.

It was Saturday moving day with a difference, the leaders retreating

back towards the field. It is Scott Hend who has been living since

Thursday and he remains at the top. He will be joined by local favourite

tell Hatton. In the sextet at 6-under is Chris Wood. Martin Kaymer

has found some gain of late. I do not know what why Danny Willett

was unsettled yesterday. He just lost his timing little bit. If you

get out of position it will be tricky. Scott Hend has the lead and

what is your view on young Tyrell Hatton. Significant day. Almost like

a dream country, he used to come here watching and suddenly he has a

chance of actually winning the title. It would be an amazing

performance. I think the greens are a little softer. To win the PGA

title is a dream come true for anyone. Cerci's own James Morrison

does not have far to drive home, only about five miles, and he could

be doing so in a brand-new motor. He earned on here, celebrating with

Andy Sullivan. There has already been another ace today, from Rikard

Karlberg from Gothenburg. Absolutely inspired the 29 yard, who has since

picked up birdies at three, four, seven and eight and this would be

yet another. Karlberg only to' shots of the lead. Chris Wood began the

day at 6-under. Positive start for the two time Tour winner from

Bristol. First birdie of the day. What a shot that was. And it was

catching. His playing partner, Frenchman Julien Quesne, also on the

move. He picked up a shot at the 1st as well. Forward momentum already.

But Rikard Karlberg has had most of that. This was his second to the

12th. Good enough to bag yet another birdie. He is one off the top. Even

that was about to change. Scott Hend driving into the bunker but left the

ball there with his second. Odds on to drop at least one. In fact he

signed for a double bogey and the leader has been knocked off his

perch. Trailblazing Rikard Karlberg has catapulted himself to the top

alongside Tyrell Hatton. Lee Westwood has bogeyed the opening

hole and Masters champion Danny Willett has doubled the third. He is

at 4-under. Fascinating final round as we join the commentators.

COMMENTATOR: Thank you. Willett and the fourth. It is a silly old game.

With a smile, worth eight giggle. Nine through those lost to', that is

par. What do you expect? I am Masters champion. Karlberg played a

wonderful shot to get it to stop from the back of the green. That

could bring forth much gold. Martin Kaymer, strange putt, a big swing at

the beginning. As for the eagles, three. Look where he has hit that.

He is going to miss on the no he's not. Little shimmy shake, in she

went for the eagles and that puts him right at the top. Well well.

Hend after the sixth at the 1st, this for the two. Started with a

1-shot lead. One shot behind now. The challenge comes from the big

names now. Martin Kaymer on 8-under with that eagles.

Scott Hend is living back -- slipping back a couple.

Chance to get up with the leaders if he finds the heart of the green,

which he does. That is coming round. That would move him to 9-under par.

Julien Quesne has gone for the full Willett. Blading one out there

today. He is in all white. Julien Quesne has made a very good start.

Wood for the eagles. Down she goes, round she goes, round she goes, yes!

Well now. The plot. Thickened. Our leader. Yang. The years way back.

-- he is way back. That is all right if it keeps going, yes, come on.

Little bit more firearm that and it could have been down by the pin.

Lots of yellow on the leaderboard, Chris Wood with an eagles on the

last which took him into the lead. Tee-shot now and the fifth. Just

over the front left bunker. Just about there. Chris Wood on fire.

Near enough tap-in on number five. Westwood has had a long look at

this. Down the hill. A big swing. You would not believe it, still has

not borrowed enough. Hello. Hello, hello. Now that is worth at least a

Silver Medal. That was brewing. -- that was brilliant. Fifth and a

chance for two, Chris Wood banging it in. Only the fourth birdie at

number five and he moves to 10-under. Julien Quesne also birdied

the fourth, he is going on nicely. YE Yang with a similar putt the

Kaymer. Should come back a little bit. YE Yang, what a putt.

Extraordinary, so many eagles here. He is now just one behind Chris

Wood. Scoring today we did not see yesterday afternoon. But one. This

morning. Is this coming back? Hard bounce and

he is in all sorts of trouble. Not very inviting. 18th green, Andrew

Johnson, current Spanish Open champion from Valda

-- Quesne. Where is the Beef, Beef? Through the field.

Family this week here. What a way to finish.

Awkward little chip up the bank. The ball just nestling down a little bit

for Karlberg. He has played that nicely. He has been red hot on the

greens today. Scott Hend. We saw Danny Willett

hole just about this shot from slightly closer to the green. That

is not too bad. Nice right to left and of the hill putt to come for the

birdie. Karlberg bogeyed the first and then went on an amazing run for

the top but he has now dropped another shot. Back to 7-under. He

could set a tight fit. Horrible start. This is not too difficult,

should be a little bit of right and left. Straight in. Hend back to aid

under par. -- 8-under par. Thomas Aiken and a chance for a three on

the sixth. Touch of left-to-right. Right in the middle for the South

African. But to 7-under alongside Westwood and Karlberg. Julien Quesne

going along very nicely today. Second shot here into the sixth. How

about that? Take it away. He will move to 9-under. Great approach from

Thomas Aiken. He makes the most of it. Lovely run, three birdies in the

last four, the South African who plays on the PGA Tour. Chris Wood,

good tee shot on the seventh. Back right pin position.

Wonderful shot from Chris Wood. He is dialled in the day. From off the

green, Karlberg. Rikard Karlberg can rarely miss today. His seventh

birdie of the day. Chris Wood a beautiful second shot. Left-to-right

and a chance to extend his lead. 5-under through seven holes. To'

shots clear. That confirms it. He is in the lead by two. Very tired, lots

of golf yet to be played. Back nine always a little trickier. Pretty

well done. If you miss on the short side with the greens so firm it is

tricky to do that. Started with a bogey and finishes with a par, in

between all the colours of the rainbow. Hole-in-one on the second.

8-under par. Scott Hend to save his par. Messi start to the round. Ten.

He is now two over for his round. Go on, well done. I thought it had

bounced too many times in the long stuff.

I do not believe what is going on here, this is a ridiculous shot,

trying to hit over everything he can. Skip and a jump and into the

ditch. One of the most stupid shots you will ever see. Crikey. LAUGHTER

Kaymer not sure where he was but he is fine. His second to the ninth.

Over the ditch. Stay there. Could have been a lot worse.

Hatton at the 7th. Par putts. No, no, letting it all drift away.

Chris Wood leading by the couple. But the man of the moment is Rikard

Karlberg, his round included a hole-in-one. Congratulations, that

is a 65 with two birdies and an ace on the car. -- card. I was a little

tired after Ireland and this is a tough course, it takes a lot out of

you. Starting with a bogey I thought, oh well, but I had a great

trip and it went in. I was pumped after that. You try to ride the

wave. Happy with the round, unfortunately at the end I had some

tough numbers into the pin, between clubs, but really happy.

Something of the John Daly in this fellow, hugely talented but just

does stupid things. That is was a bizarre choice with the driver.

Absolutely. Needs a good putt now. This for

bogey at the 9th. Most bogey six on his card. Errant tee shot. A little

bit greedy. 6-under now, five behind. Good tee shot but quite a

long way back for Chris Wood. 203 yards. Trying to cut one thing. --

in. Super iron shot. Has had a few high-quality shots this morning.

Looking anxious, has he got the pace? The things he has. And last.

Birdie on the card is the first red figure. 8-under, back to where he

started. Aiken was just off the green on the other side and played a

dreadful shot through the green. Making a complete mess of this hole.

Championship leader Chris Wood here at the 9th. This is to go to

12-under. Easy breezy. -- out in 29. What is he playing off

today? I don't know but we are losing. If a kid is going to win

this being needs to hole this. This for a four. Dearie me. Ugly double

bogey, untimely double bogey, drops back to 6-under. Yang for a three at

the 9th. Always why, just too wide. Four

always acceptable. Chris Wood's tee shot at the time.

He might get away with this. He has got away with it.

There is a chance. My word. He is going to have to do something very

impressive on the back nine. Just getting away from him now. Chris

Wood leads by three colour to save par. First blemish on the card for

Chris Wood. That is going to be at least one shotgun. -- at least one

shot gone. Just a slight misjudgement on distance, missed the

putt, first bogey of the day. His lead down to two.

Hello. I do not know what is happening, whether it is the

lateness of the hour, dreadful shot. Good luck and the shock faced by

Tyrell Hatton. Over the top of the bank. -- a good look at the shot

faced by Tyrell Hatton. For his par. After the early good scoring they

are just beginning to falter. Chris Wood dropping his first shot but he

is still clear. Yang in bother on the 10th. Danny Willett and Kaymer

and Westwood far from out of it. Hatton was in the sand on the ninth,

he pitched to hear. I thought he had that. Grant underground from him. He

will slip back. Not much happening for Danny Willett today but there is

one. Danny Willett finally up. Nothing since the fifth until now.

Julien Quesne on the edge of the bunker. Awkward shot. Hoping to find

the green. It they tangled lie. That was an extraordinary... I do

not know whether that was up against a stone or what happened. That was

not in the book. Everyone seems to be having problems just now. Julien

Quesne finding the bunker, Chris Wood from the other side of the

fairway. Comeback, very good. Better than that. He bogeyed the 10th.

Chris Wood looking better and better. YE Yang to save par on the

10th. This is a hit and a prayer. Might

hit the flag. That was the anyway he could get it close. -- only way.

Yang to drop just one on the 10th. Then it goes both yang slips back to

8-under. Chris Wood leading by three and it might be four in a moment.

First dropped shot of the day for the South Korean. That has been an

adventure for Julien Quesne on the 11th. Heather down the left and then

fluffed it into the bunker. All the fun of the fair. This to drop just

one. Which he does. Slips back to seven but not too damaging. Bearing

in mind all that has gone before. Chris Wood after the bogey on the

10th, birdies the 11th and his lead is now four. Seven to play.

Yang at the 11th. Gore blimey. Six or eight players in with a shout if

they can never get their game to together.

Try and bring it round a little bit right-to-left follow the contours.

Good luck, everyone. Too much, too much. The temperatures

down there, the trees, he had hit that tree and come down short of the

pitch. I think he has been a little bit fortunate. Still not pleasant,

but could have been much worse. Let's see if Julien Quesne can get

the right shape here. The huge crowd for North Down. -- funnels down. A

few are pulling generously, it has gone to the left, it will be OK down

there. It is fine, just not a pretty strike. It is fine.

Tyrrell Hatton has had his problems as well. This for a bogey on the

10th, back-to-back dropped shots for Hatton. He is, as they say, spending

money on his final day. Chris Wood, he has got a bit of a truncated

follow-through, he has got to pick it back. Could have been much worse

off the tee. Planted into this big one here and dropped straight down.

Just creeps onto the fairway. Still will be able to get home in three.

Yang's birdshot. Third at the 11th. I do not know what has got into the

champion, he is terribly nervous, he had lost his swing altogether.

Down, down, down. That is the urgent call. The pin is sitting and it

table top in the middle of green. Yang, his fourth shot at the 11th.

It has all gone very messy. A big swing at the end on this one, played

it up the right-hand side, it looks awful, and then suddenly it goes

sharp left and ends up not too bad. That will be a dropped shot, though.

That is a good view of this 12th. It used to be fairly level with the

rest of the fairway, they have built it up so Julien Quesne has to pop it

up the slope. Down in two, for a birdie. Not good.

Here is Kaymer on the 13th, along putt attempt. He gives one again as

well. Apart from the Eagle on the fourth, it has been so-so for Pace

Micro, a double bogey on the night and a bogey on the 13th, he down to

five and again -- it has been so-so for Kaymer. Chris Wood has a

long-range birdie chance at the 12th.

A bit of work left. Interesting, the course has got three very tough

holes, 13, 15, and 16 which do not offer much. A lot of work for Chris

Wood. Chris Wood is taking a look from the

sidelines to check the break. Sweetly done. That was a very nice

putt. Remove him within four, 8-under par. A little testy one

here. Chris Wood with a 4/ lead, he

controls his own destiny. This is to save par.

That is the easiest hole in the course, 38 birdies today, not one

for Chris Wood, but he has got par. Second shot, a good tee shot for

Jaco Van Zyl, we will see where the pin is at the 15th. He is 5-under

par, please be good. It is very good, excellent shot. So tricky to

get to that flag where it is today with the breeze blowing. Par-5 for

Julien -- Julien Quesne, just get it out there.

Just 148 yards left for Chris Wood. The stock of the driver. -- it was a

massive drive. An unforced error. Danny Willett,

15th, this for his par, he had problems off the tee.

Van Zyl for a very scarce birdie at 15th today and he has done it.

Deserved it after an excellent approach.

6-under par, 8-under into the clubhouse. That is the leader. The

feet are aiming right, the shoulders open, he has got a cupped line.

He has scuffed it a bit, hit a stone. Something hard under the

ball. A perfect drive, struggling for par. It has got to be his moment

here sometime, Andrew, it must be now. He needs this and a couple

more. I would not say that was the prettiest of strokes. Julien Quesne

now, for his par. He found the bunker off the tee.

Downhill and up the other side, not quite enough. Not enough energy in

that one. Can he wriggle out of this 13th? He

has with a par, what a putt. Just add the white time, he slams the

door on the rest of the field, that was a gem, a little beauty. Just

what he was after. Julien Quesne to dropped just one shot. He has

watched his playing partner role in his par putt, and now he is trying

to catch him. He has come back to 7-under, five behind Chris Wood.

Second shot for Danny Willett at the 16th. I think that should be quite

good X Mac C, Danny. -- let's see, Danny. A great shot, moving about at

the edge of the trees. Wood putting up a pretty severe tear

here. Beautiful putt on the eighth from long range, but a little bit of

work to do. Don't count Danny out, this is for a birdie at the 16th.

They have been in short supply, but he has made it. Two par-5s to come.

One of similar distance for the last one, for par, can he do it again?

Not over yet, by any stretch of the imagination. He now leads by three.

Rikard Karlberg if the man closest to him. There is so much danger in

the hole is still to come. STUDIO: interesting to see the

current Ryder Cup standings, because Chris Wood is in 13th place with

nine to play their way in by right for the automatic places. And this

will really help his chances of getting the Darren Clarke's team,

where he can this huge title. -- were he to land this huge title.

COMMENTATOR: Danny Willett has struggled all week on this one, can

he reach this par-5 in two? Down the right, where is that? Down the path

and away. I have never seen anyone go down there, Peter. It has stopped

eventually, on its way to the 80s. -- the 18th. It is doubtful now he

could set a good target. It has been a frustrating day on the greens for

Lee Westwood. This is for par. One or two if the putts, but he has

also found a few that have not hit the bottom of the cup. Tight right

on the 15th, Chris Wood does not want to miss right. Nicely played,

very nicely done. Just conservative positional shot, just what he

needed. Well, Willett is down in the jungle. If he has got a clear shot

and a decent lie, it is possible to get it somewhere. That will run

right down the bottom. What are the key has had. -- what is the he has

had. Quick down the hill, is it that

quick? It is doing its best. A fraction more. He was in the hunt

last week in Ireland. Hello! That was a bit of a misread,

he thought it was going to turn the other way. Come on, Danny, let's

have a big of magic. This would make him 8-under, it is a big ask, he

needs something. Up the hill. Oh, my. Oh, matron!

Up to the 18th, Wattel pops one in. Not too bad, that will be a nice

week's pocket money. 15 holes played for Chris Wood, in

under par, 5-under for his round, and he leads by three.

Westwood and that splendid at the 15th, but he has overdone this one.

Now, Chris Wood with this ghastly, difficult, horrible...

He tried to play a little, I don't know, a little one up the left,

tried to get a bit of Seve Ballesteros magic but he was not up

to it. Here is Danny Willett at the 18th, second shot. Having a cup at

the green. Not a very big target, drifting away. Straight in the sand.

And look where the flag is, right at the back left.

Now, Chris Wood, along putt for par. Bit of swing from the left. I do not

know whether there is as much of that, it is coming late. Still a bit

to do. Hang on, hang on. I heard Danny Willett say after his second

shot, how can you get in a golf course with a swing like that? Had

to chase this one down the slope. That is pretty good from there.

Damage limitation, just the one stroke going, did not take a chance

with his chip. Danny Willett, then, to try and

finish with a four here. Yes! He has it, at least, at the very last,

Danny Willett. Too many shots gone, a few too many wayward ones.

Very important shot, that he get it somewhere in play. Five here will be

OK. That is a crackerjack here. Write down the middle, splits the

fairway. A joy to behold. After that 71, Danny Willett finds himself in

third, he is with Hazel. As we speak, third place, another

top five finish the year. You know you had a big lead at the halfway

stage, with the benefit of hindsight, how will you reflect on

your endeavours? We just hit too many bad shots. Plenty of good ones,

hit plenty of birdies. Just the ones that went bad this week were more

destructive as usual but that is the golf course. You have not got to be

1 million miles off and it can jump up and bite you, you can throw easy

bogeys, a couple of doubles. Two days were a little bit of a blip, 45

minutes and you have got four shots down, it is hard to make it up. Take

a few of the silly ones away, it could have been another good week.

This is our leader, third shot. Just missed the fairway on the right,

played up to here. This is not easy, either hollow in front of the

green... You can pick it in the... That was played with far too much

loft, just pitched it straight in the face.

Look at the 18th, Kaymer's second shot.

He joined the group, who will be thinking what might have been. That

should come down a hell of it. -- down the hill a bit. It is sticking

there. Certainly safety first, but not easy to judge, you come up a

steep bank and over the other side it is pretty quick. Inside a yard

would be beautiful. Well, well, well. Two shots, his

lead. That was... Even when the golf

becomes scrappy and nervy and edgy, it is still exciting. Because you

have a tingle, you feel it has to go. He had done it, no he hasn't,

yes he has! Oh, boy, oh, boy. What a time to drop shot. Three shots gone

in his last four holes, one to play, 1-shot lead.

Kaymer for an eagle. Just tickles it down the slope, left, left. Just

left. Not quite there today for Martin Kaymer. He had that eagle on

the fourth. Double bogey on the night. A couple of bogeys coming

home, just that one birdie to finish, 73. Still top ten but he

would have hoped for so much more. He knows par is good enough. If he

is aware of the leaderboard, I am sure he is. So sensible of the tee.

Must find the fairway. Somebody likes it. And that is the

reason why. The thing is now, will he go for the green or the layup,

pitched it in two? Rikard Karlberg, hoping for the best out in the act

is grand, keeping warm. -- out in the practice ground. Wood laying off

in the 18th, probably eight, nine, no more. Keep it straight. He has.

He is quite the way back. Gods to watch the spin. If he pitches at the

pin, and gets too much spin, we have seen it before, back it comes, into

the water. Job not done yet. Rikard Karlberg is keeping warm, but Chris

Wood is doing what he needs to, coming to the 18th. Here we go, will

Wood's third shot. Got to get over the water, stop

short of the bunkers. Will it spin? It does. Pretty good shape. That is

exactly where he was aiming as well. Safe and secure. 20 seats to the

flag. Job nearly done. -- 20 feet. He is heading for the biggest win

and the biggest cheque of his career, he leapt onto the scene as

the young star, 2008 in the open, nearly one next year. 2-putts and he

will have his biggest victory and the third win on the European Tour,

one of the biggest tournament of all. Chris Wood's parents looking on

anxiously. Looks good. Oh, that... I think

that'll be OK but it is 20 inches, and maybe a little bit more.

A chance to finish with a birdie. A chance to tie Danny Willett into

third place. It's just hobbled. Three feet out,

it took the full bubble and stayed on the line. He will stay with

Thomas Aiken, fourth place, 6-under par. He has missed his last few

cuts, a good finisher Julien Quesne. A wonderful setting, huge crowd

looking on. A little one to win the pot. Well done! Well done, Chris

Wood, PGA champion 2016. Great stuff. Well, a great victory by

Chris Wood. The Bristolian, Mum and dad, and all of the folks in Bristol

will be celebrating in the Clifton suspension Bridge tonight. A great

victory, strained at times but well done.

STUDIO: and our congratulations to Chris Wood. He has come so far here

over the years. We remember on his debut in 2010, he was tied for

sixth, fourth last year. He had landed the big one, and the biggest

title of his career so far. His third European Tour win, and he has

done it in somewhat nerdy fashion at the end. But he is your champion. --

somewhat nervous fashion. And as Chris Wood our champion

powers over me, it is time to give out the prizes today in the company

of the chief executive of the European Tour and our sponsors BMW.

A great week again. Yes, I gave him a car last year and a trophy this

year. A good omen. Great crowds, great weather and a really special

event and a good fight at the end. This is what you deserve, please

handed over. Our champion is ground. I have to say, Chris, we remember...

-- our champion is crowned. We remember your baby here six years

ago, and you have waited some time to get your hands on this. This is

your third European Tour title, I suspect it could be your greatest

day in golf. Yes, the strength of the field every year is so strong.

So, to win a tournament like this, it takes a lot of good golf. Done

such a great golf course, I have got to thank BMW, they have put on some

great events for this player. I have always wanted to win one. I love my

BMW! This is, yeah, this is massive for me. It was a fantastic start to

you, covering the front nine in 29. You had a four shot lead with five

holes to go. One to play with coming out of the 18th, how nerve wracking

were those closing holes? Very! It is not an easy course to finish on.

You have got to hit some solid shots coming in from 13 onwards. There is

potential trouble everywhere. And when you are leading, it makes it

ten times harder. But it does not matter how many you win by. If I am

one ahead or ten ahead, I have still got my hands on this. There are so

many positives to this title, and one of them for you particularly

could be leapfrogging up the Ryder Cup rankings, how positive day has

it been in that regard? Obviously it is a target of mind. I made a great

start when the rankings kicked off last season, I have had a so-so year

up to now. I have been there or thereabouts, that this is going to

go a long way to helping me make the team. I need to start focusing on

putting in some more good finishes to try and cement my place and not

rely on Mr Clarke picking me! I am sure if more performances like this

one come your way, you are going to be on that team in Minnesota. Your

champion, ladies and gentlemen, is Chris Wood, congratulations once

Let's round out some of the other leading contenders. Lee Westwood

birdied the last 43 under par finish for the Championship, but he closed

out today with a disappointing round of 76. There will be other times for

Lee, we hope. YE Yang, Korea's major winner, finishing on 4-under, after

a final-round 75 for the day. Tyrell Hatton out in the final group, a

very high profile stuff from him, 75 for him today as well. And a tie for

seventh place for the local blood. Our overnight leader, Scott Hend, a

truly terrible round from the Australian. He shared 15th place.

Chris Wood, its final putt, this is the distance you would like to

finish a big win! Around of 69 to finish, out in 29, home in 40 T hung

on. One shot victory over Rikard Karlberg to Brighton to everybody's

they would that scintillating round of 65. Annie Willett steadied --

Danny Willett steadied the ship for outright third place. Three people

on fourth, Andrew Johnston with the eagle at the last, gave everyone a

lot to smile about. Tied for seventh. Further down, you see Lee

Westwood sharing 15th, after the round of 76.

and what is going to be a very significant summer of sport on the
