he might have a 9-iron. If you really hate it, he could get it

fairly well down. It is a bit greedy. He hit it well. It didn't

reach the spot where Tony Jacklin drove it in 1969. It has been a

opportunities, but he has not missed many from close range.

so much chat about how bad the weather is going to be. How

unplayable it is. It was weird to be out there this morning in short

sleeves. Very mild conditions. It was nice to get out there and take

advantage. The conditions were a lot easier than we have been

What benefit do you feel that has given you? I like coming here early

and getting my homework done. There are so many people here in the week

of the Championship, and it can be quite distracting. Maybe quality

practice is harder to accomplish than playing the the week before

the Championship. I walked away here and there's tonight feeling

like a new my way around a golf course, I had all my homework done

and that was able to come here on Monday afternoon and play 18 holes,

conserve energy. It got you going, certainly. Three birdies on the

trot. The adrenalin was clearly flowing. It is always nice to get

your name on the board early in the week. I made a bogey on six,

probably one of the toughest par fours. It was nice to hit straight

back with a couple of birdies. I felt like I have my away in well. I

had been working hard and my putting. It wasn't maybe my

greatest ball-striking round of all time, but this wasn't too bad! I

thought I had got it in, for a second. That was fun! That is a

very tough par three. Big bunkers at the front. The real feature here

is the bunkers. It is hard to get round without hitting it in the

bunkers. I was disappointed with a bogey at the last. You have got to

accept that you are not going to hit it in the perfect position

every time and just try to get on with your game. The common thinking

here is that you make your score on the way out, and from 14 you start

to protect it. How significant was the wind starting to pick up?

this golf course, that is what you should stay on. The last four holes

at this golf course a very difficult. You are trying to hold

on to what ever you have managed to get in the bank and hang on for

dear life. The wind was starting to waken up over the last five holes.

15 is a really hard tee-shot into the wind. The 18th is deceptively

difficult, with all the bunkers. There are a couple of little jigsaw

pieces in the fairway, and you have got to try and place it in one or

the other of those. I try to headed down the left-hand bunker and hit

it 240 yards off the tee. I came out of it a little bit early and

headed into the third bunker. That is the great thing about this golf

course, there are always different ways to play each hole. You always

have to take at least some of the bunkers on at all time. Rory

McIlroy is just going to leave that one short. You had a stellar

performance at the US Open, calling it a roller-coaster. What is the

main positive that you left it with coming into this Major? Just the

way I conducted myself under pressure at the weekend. It is a

roller-coaster that scares you at that time, but afterwards you

realise how much fun it was. My attitude on the weekend, I was

pleased with that. That is what I'm trying to apply to this week, and

all the big events going forward. Hopefully I can have some fun this

going to break 72 holes perfectly. It does not give you a lot of

opportunity if you are off. Anywhere, short game is vital but

in Majors, if your short game is better than everyone else's, it
