Good evening, welcome to Late Kick Off. Coming up on the show tonight. | :00:15. | :00:21.
All change at Charlton. Is Jose the man to lead the Addicks to safety? I | :00:22. | :00:27.
am here to be able to do what he asked me. To allow Charlton to stay | :00:28. | :00:33.
in the division. We send Mark Bright on a double derby day dash across | :00:34. | :00:36.
the capital, from Brisbane Road to the Den. | :00:37. | :00:40.
I'm here! We've got all the goals from the weekend including a | :00:41. | :00:49.
Battocchio belter for Watford. And London 2012 medallist Andy Lapthorne | :00:50. | :00:51.
tells us about his love for Brentford. To be on the pitch and | :00:52. | :00:56.
see some of the players I speak to on a regular basis was very special. | :00:57. | :01:01.
With myself and Mark tonight, a former Gillingham and Millwall | :01:02. | :01:05.
striker, Tony Cascarino. Great to have you with us. I hope you are | :01:06. | :01:09.
going to tell us that you still look out for the results of Millwall and | :01:10. | :01:12.
Gillingham, aren't you? Yeah. Six years at Gillingham and I spent a | :01:13. | :01:16.
lot of time at Priestfield. I had a great time. As a kid I followed | :01:17. | :01:21.
Millwall. Two of the first teams I look out for. We will hear plenty | :01:22. | :01:26.
more of Tony's stories later and a few from Mark as well. First, to | :01:27. | :01:30.
Charlton. Last week they became the seventh of our 12 clubs to change | :01:31. | :01:34.
manager since the end of last season. With the team fighting | :01:35. | :01:39.
relegation from the Championship and knocked out of the FA Cup by League | :01:40. | :01:43.
One opponents, new owner Roland Duchatelet took decisive action. The | :01:44. | :01:45.
BBC has learned Chris Powell has been sacked... New owner Roland | :01:46. | :01:48.
Duchatelet, it dismissed the ex`Addicks... Jose Riga has been | :01:49. | :01:54.
named as the new manager of Charlton. | :01:55. | :01:56.
Jose Riga, a new face in English football. A familiar face to | :01:57. | :02:01.
Charlton's owner, Roland Duchatelet. The pair also worked together at | :02:02. | :02:06.
Standard Liege. The president is a friend of mine, we know each other | :02:07. | :02:10.
very well. I'm here to be able to do what he asked me. To allow Charlton | :02:11. | :02:14.
to stay in the division. He's good, he speaks great English, he's got | :02:15. | :02:18.
over his points what he wants to get to the boys. We're bottom of the | :02:19. | :02:22.
league, now we need to get out of it, regardless of who's in charge. | :02:23. | :02:27.
The most important thing is to get Charlton safe. Before arriving in | :02:28. | :02:31.
south`east London, Jose Riga was employed at AC Milan's youth | :02:32. | :02:35.
academy. Jose Riga is a very clever man, very kind man, he has a lot of | :02:36. | :02:39.
education. He is not a fan of kick and rush football. So he'll like a | :02:40. | :02:44.
technical touch. He was once invited to coach at Real Madrid for a week, | :02:45. | :02:47.
although not everyone at the Bernabeu remembers. | :02:48. | :02:50.
At the Valley, replacing a fan's favourite won't be easy. He is a | :02:51. | :03:08.
coach rather than a manager. We could have a Les Reid scenario here | :03:09. | :03:11.
where it all goes pear`shaped in a matter of weeks! Powell has been | :03:12. | :03:15.
really good for Charlton, he got them promoted from League One. I | :03:16. | :03:18.
personally thought he could keep them up this season. I think this | :03:19. | :03:24.
new manager has got the right set of ideas to bring to the club. I think | :03:25. | :03:28.
we can do a lot better with him as manager, to be honest. This club is | :03:29. | :03:31.
well organised. Really good people, they know what they do. It's not | :03:32. | :03:37.
alone that we are going to win this challenge, it's altogether. | :03:38. | :03:42.
Mark, you know Chris Powell very well, you played with him at | :03:43. | :03:47.
Charlton. What do you make of this? We were just talking, they are | :03:48. | :03:50.
bottom in March, bottom of the table. As you said, decisive action | :03:51. | :03:57.
needed to be taken. Chris should be very proud of what he's achieved at | :03:58. | :04:00.
the club with promotion and everything, almost made the | :04:01. | :04:02.
play`offs last season. It's been a really disappointing year for him | :04:03. | :04:05.
and everyone concerned with the club. So I wasn't surprised. I hoped | :04:06. | :04:08.
he could survive and try and keep them up but Jose, I spoke to him | :04:09. | :04:12.
after the game, he is very hopeful of doing that. It seems there was a | :04:13. | :04:18.
real problem there, they had a different view on the transfer | :04:19. | :04:21.
policy with the Standard Liege connection and the players coming | :04:22. | :04:25.
in. Chris Powell couldn't seem to agree with that. With eight weeks of | :04:26. | :04:28.
the season to go, was it the right decision to take? That's going to be | :04:29. | :04:32.
at the season, if Charlton survive. I don't agree with managers being | :04:33. | :04:35.
given players that they not necessarily want. Chris would love | :04:36. | :04:38.
to have the say, and rightly so, have people he thinks can keep | :04:39. | :04:42.
Charlton up. When an owner decides to buy the club, that's one thing. | :04:43. | :04:45.
But to then start meddling and saying, you are getting these | :04:46. | :04:48.
players from Standard Liege, because there was a number of them. If you | :04:49. | :04:51.
don't fancy them or think they aren't good enough, as a manager | :04:52. | :04:55.
that undermines you. I think it's a really difficult situation for him | :04:56. | :04:58.
and, also, a year ago Charlton were in a really good position and now | :04:59. | :05:06.
it's changed. Results have so dramatically changing for him. You | :05:07. | :05:11.
feel sorry for him. I thought over the long period Chris would have | :05:12. | :05:16.
been fine. It has changed, there's a new owner there and now there's a | :05:17. | :05:19.
new manager who frankly, the fans don't know a great deal about. Do | :05:20. | :05:22.
they have reason to be concerned for the long term or should they be | :05:23. | :05:26.
optimistic? He's just said he's just got to try and keep the club up and | :05:27. | :05:29.
survive. Alex is still there, Damian is still there and the backroom | :05:30. | :05:33.
staff. He needs them. I wish them all the best because, having played | :05:34. | :05:36.
for the club, you know the journey they've been on and I wish them | :05:37. | :05:40.
well. But I think it's going to be a struggle. He doesn't know much about | :05:41. | :05:43.
English football, Riga, and he'll know even less about League One | :05:44. | :05:46.
football. Let's hope it keeps them up. The lunchtime kick`off at | :05:47. | :05:48.
Brisbane Road on Saturday was followed by 3pm start at the Den. So | :05:49. | :05:52.
that offered just about enough time to take in both matches. It was a | :05:53. | :05:55.
double dose of derby day action, where all four teams have something | :05:56. | :05:57.
to play for. East London meets West, with both | :05:58. | :06:03.
trying to map a route north out of League One. Their polar opposites | :06:04. | :06:06.
from the south`east of the capital are hoping to avoid veering further | :06:07. | :06:10.
south out of the championship. Who is staying up, who is going up? Who | :06:11. | :06:13.
is staying put? Lost your bearings yet? We sent Mark to navigate his | :06:14. | :06:15.
way through both London derbies. I'm here at Brisbane Road, home of | :06:16. | :06:30.
Leyton Orient FC. The O's have not been outside the top three of League | :06:31. | :06:34.
One all season. They are looking to break into the second tier of | :06:35. | :06:37.
English football for the first time in 32 years. In 1982 I was still at | :06:38. | :06:41.
school. I can't remember that far back! Yeah, they were good days. | :06:42. | :06:51.
We'd like to get back. For Brentford it has been a mere 21 years. Not | :06:52. | :06:54.
forgetting the six heartbreaking failures in the play`offs during | :06:55. | :06:57.
that time. It's automatically or that's it, we can't get through the | :06:58. | :07:00.
play`offs. History shows you that, painful, too painful. I've seen | :07:01. | :07:03.
Brentford at Wembley four or five times, we lose every time. I don't | :07:04. | :07:07.
want that again. No last`minute penalties. We desperately need to | :07:08. | :07:12.
win today because I think will carry us through to the rest of the end of | :07:13. | :07:16.
the season. Fortunately this year we are on such a good run that we won't | :07:17. | :07:19.
need to go through that heartache again, we are going to go straight | :07:20. | :07:21.
up. What a beautiful day for a game of | :07:22. | :07:28.
football. Top of the table clash in League One, second versus third. | :07:29. | :07:30.
Orient one point above Brentford, Brentford have two games in hand. | :07:31. | :07:33.
Who's going to boost their promotion hopes? Let's find out with your | :07:34. | :07:35.
commentator, Nick Godley. It's a real scramble, Button got | :07:36. | :07:45.
something on that. It's a poor challenge from the centre half. | :07:46. | :07:50.
Tarkowski has been shown the yellow card for that. Yellow card, | :07:51. | :07:52.
deserved. Donaldson has made a great run, he | :07:53. | :07:59.
has prodded around the goalkeeper but that is a terrific stop by | :08:00. | :08:04.
Jakupovich. That is a foul. And there's a scuffle breaking out here | :08:05. | :08:08.
now with MacCormack. A group confrontation. | :08:09. | :08:10.
Clayton Donaldson. He's got a yellow card. Brentford rolls it infield, | :08:11. | :08:23.
Trotta gives it to Forshaw... He drives it towards goal. What a | :08:24. | :08:29.
strike that is! Great move. A little step over, came to Trotta in the | :08:30. | :08:32.
box, left foot low. Could not stop it. | :08:33. | :08:36.
James Tarkowski has gone in very strongly there. It's a second yellow | :08:37. | :08:42.
card. Brentford are down to ten men. No need to do it on the halfway | :08:43. | :08:47.
line. Comes back out, rolls it square for James, who clipped it | :08:48. | :08:50.
into the penalty area. There is no flag, Mooney with a chance. It's | :08:51. | :08:56.
cleared away from danger. I tell you, the free kick wasn't very good | :08:57. | :09:00.
but the follow`up was a good chip into the box. Under pressure now, | :09:01. | :09:03.
Brentford. Mooney is wide, they are queuing up for this. It's been | :09:04. | :09:07.
blocked away. He sends it into the mix, it's a clearing header. It's | :09:08. | :09:10.
going to drop to Odubajo. Good save by Button. It looks like Brentford | :09:11. | :09:15.
are hanging on here, it's the final minutes. I've got another London | :09:16. | :09:20.
derby to attend ` I'm off! How much longer will the referee give us? Not | :09:21. | :09:23.
much longer at all. There are hugs and celebrations one that Brentford | :09:24. | :09:26.
bench because, my goodness me, what a magnificent away performance by | :09:27. | :09:27.
the Bees in West London. I don't think I've missed any goals. | :09:28. | :09:35.
Brentford look like they've done it. I'm off to the new Den to see what | :09:36. | :09:41.
happens there. It's a big game today. We talk about just three | :09:42. | :09:44.
points or another three points, but the fact of the matter it is second | :09:45. | :09:47.
versus third, East versus West in the London derby. The boys are aware | :09:48. | :09:51.
of the importance of the game. I thought they were magnificent today. | :09:52. | :09:54.
Maybe they should have been down to nine men. Donaldson has gone in | :09:55. | :09:57.
thinking it's a bar brawl. Young players who learnt a lot from last | :09:58. | :10:00.
year, that experience from last year was fairly unique. You've got guys | :10:01. | :10:04.
who are 21 years of age who have 120 odd league games under their belt. | :10:05. | :10:07.
They've learnt, they are better people for it and hopefully this | :10:08. | :10:10.
year they deserve to go one step further. I trust the group and I've | :10:11. | :10:13.
got great belief in them. They've got great character. They are not | :10:14. | :10:17.
finished yet. This season has been quite a journey for our south`east | :10:18. | :10:20.
London duo. New manager at both clubs, a new owner at Charlton. | :10:21. | :10:23.
Twists and turns see Millwall start this match two points above the drop | :10:24. | :10:26.
zone and Charlton three points adrift, but with four games in hand | :10:27. | :10:30.
on today's opponents. A draw won't do today, it's a must win game. If | :10:31. | :10:36.
we still win, I don't think we are out of the woods, we are in trouble. | :10:37. | :10:41.
I think today will decide the season. It's a must win game, we | :10:42. | :10:45.
have to get three points. Given that we've only won ten times out of 62 | :10:46. | :10:49.
meetings here, I'd be happy to leave here with a smile on my face for a | :10:50. | :10:51.
change. On a day like today there's no | :10:52. | :11:02.
better way to travel. Rhys is a good rider, bad teller of jokes. One | :11:03. | :11:05.
down, one to go. It's Emma Jones with the commentary. | :11:06. | :11:10.
Welcome to a gloriously sunny south London Saturday afternoon. Now it's | :11:11. | :11:15.
Williams. Headed just wide! Harriott racing forward, he goes for | :11:16. | :11:25.
the shot. There's nothing to choose between the two teams. Both | :11:26. | :11:30.
obviously lacking confidence. Jackson for the shot. Ben Hamer down | :11:31. | :11:34.
to his right hand side. Half`time whistle. 0`0. Expect a bit better in | :11:35. | :11:44.
the second half. Wiggins with the ball in. Harris threw his body at | :11:45. | :11:50.
that. Moans and groans all around. They're desperate for a goal. If | :11:51. | :11:54.
anything, I think Millwall are going to get it. It's a left footed swing | :11:55. | :11:59.
to the edge of the penalty area. It's heading just over by | :12:00. | :12:03.
Maierhofer. Fredericks is able to get the ball in. Flicked off by | :12:04. | :12:06.
Morrison, dropped down inside the six yard box. It's very tense. | :12:07. | :12:14.
Owen Garvan behind this free kick, Garvan goes for the far post and | :12:15. | :12:19.
Hamer is across to push it away for a corner. Diego Poyet with an | :12:20. | :12:22.
interception to stop Woolford and his run. That is the full`time | :12:23. | :12:29.
whistle. Lots of effort and endeavour, there's no question about | :12:30. | :12:34.
that. A passionate London derby. But there was just no quality, no | :12:35. | :12:36.
creativity. Motions of flight predictable. A lack of options from | :12:37. | :12:41.
both teams. Could have created more but it's a bit of a nervous game. I | :12:42. | :12:45.
thought everybody looked a bit nervous. We knew what was at stake. | :12:46. | :12:50.
We are not today in the last position. Psychologically, it is | :12:51. | :12:56.
very important. It's tough at the moment because it's so vital for us. | :12:57. | :13:00.
Have you got enough to stay up? Yeah, I think we can be better than | :13:01. | :13:02.
three others. A busy day there for Mark. Just the | :13:03. | :13:09.
one goal you managed to see in the two games. You didn't get a speeding | :13:10. | :13:13.
ticket? It looked like it was going really fast. Just speeded up the | :13:14. | :13:17.
film, can I just point that out? They've got identical records, | :13:18. | :13:20.
Charlton and Millwall. One win in the last ten, one goal in the last | :13:21. | :13:23.
five. We've already talked about Charlton, how do you rate Millwall? | :13:24. | :13:28.
The atmosphere was excellent. You could see the apprehension in the | :13:29. | :13:31.
players' play. I spoke to Ian Holloway at length afterwards and he | :13:32. | :13:35.
is hoping Maierhofer, he can get him fit. He thinks he'll be a good | :13:36. | :13:41.
combination with Morrison. He said he needs somebody upfront who can | :13:42. | :13:44.
hold the ball and head the ball, and that's what he needs to do. They've | :13:45. | :13:48.
only got 32 goals. It's going to be a struggle. If you look at | :13:49. | :13:53.
Millwall's finishing position, it's gone down every season. Kenny | :13:54. | :13:55.
Jackett left. Looking what he's doing at the moment, it's fantastic, | :13:56. | :13:59.
but this is precarious right now for them. | :14:00. | :14:01.
Out of the two teams, there's something about Millwall, I feel | :14:02. | :14:05.
they probably stand a better chance. The games in hand with Charlton, | :14:06. | :14:09.
it's always difficult. I feel with Millwall there's something about | :14:10. | :14:13.
them. They might get themselves out. Ian Holloway left the Premier League | :14:14. | :14:16.
relegation battle in October and joined a Championship relegation | :14:17. | :14:19.
battle in January. Were you surprised by that move? I was. When | :14:20. | :14:23.
Ian left Palace looked drained manager. A tired guy, needed a rest. | :14:24. | :14:27.
Get away from football, get with your family, do something away from | :14:28. | :14:31.
the game. The last job you'd want to take a few months down the line is | :14:32. | :14:34.
Millwall. South London rival, me and Brighty have played in a few | :14:35. | :14:38.
Millwall/Crystal Palace games. Being an ex`Palace manager. I felt Ian | :14:39. | :14:42.
didn't need it. That job at that time, for me. I thought was a | :14:43. | :14:47.
strange appointment. He is a good manager, but he wears his heart on | :14:48. | :14:51.
his sleeve. That's how he manages a football club. It's very draining, | :14:52. | :14:54.
that type of manager. For me, a bit too quick but hopefully, and I say | :14:55. | :14:57.
hopefully because I'm not as optimistic as Brighty, I think | :14:58. | :15:03.
Millwall are in real trouble. Nine points separate seven teams. The | :15:04. | :15:06.
permutations, anything can happen, like it did last year and in League | :15:07. | :15:10.
One as well. He's got no goals in his team. That's clearly a problem. | :15:11. | :15:15.
Going back to events at Brisbane Road, and there were plenty of them. | :15:16. | :15:18.
Russell Slade felt that Clayton Donaldson should have been sent off | :15:19. | :15:21.
for Brentford. What did you make of that? I thought he was lucky. | :15:22. | :15:39.
I thought it the referee get a good look at what I saw. You can see | :15:40. | :15:46.
Clayton Donaldson coming to the fray here. Left hand into the face. | :15:47. | :15:50.
Clayton Donaldson, experienced player, if you are coming into the | :15:51. | :15:53.
confrontation, just separate players. Once you put your hand up | :15:54. | :15:56.
like that, you run the risk of getting a red card. I felt if the | :15:57. | :16:01.
referee sees him, he's got no option but to give a red card and that | :16:02. | :16:04.
would have been the second one for the team. | :16:05. | :16:04.
referee sees him, he's got no option Russell was also unhappy, Tony, | :16:05. | :16:07.
about the Brentford bench celebrations, they celebrated as if | :16:08. | :16:10.
they've won the FA Cup. Was it OTT or was it really understandable? Not | :16:11. | :16:15.
for me. If you look at it here. The situation from Brentford, the team | :16:16. | :16:19.
didn't go up on the final day of the season. So much went against them. | :16:20. | :16:25.
It was a massive game. I have played in games and the build`up in the | :16:26. | :16:28.
week leading up to this, as a player, you get caught up in it. | :16:29. | :16:37.
8,000 at Leyton Orient, the big game in League One. You get caught up all | :16:38. | :16:41.
week so when it comes and you get the result, the elation. Sometimes | :16:42. | :16:45.
it goes a bit OTT, but for me that is part of the game. It was so | :16:46. | :16:47.
significant because they've got games in hand and they were down to | :16:48. | :16:51.
ten men. I think it was relief as well as celebration. Last year what | :16:52. | :16:54.
happened to Brentford played a big part in the way they acted. Russell | :16:55. | :16:59.
was right in one thing, it's not over yet. A little way to go and we | :17:00. | :17:01.
look forward to that. Right, we've seen Millwall and | :17:02. | :17:04.
Charlton slugging it out at the wrong end of the Championship. Our | :17:05. | :17:07.
other three teams in the division are looking up instead of down. To | :17:08. | :17:10.
remind us how they fared on Saturday, here's Emma again and Ian | :17:11. | :17:12.
Ramsdale. After their midweek defeat at | :17:13. | :17:18.
Brighton, QPR were hoping for an instant response at home against | :17:19. | :17:21.
struggling Yeovil. And they got it thanks to a second brace in | :17:22. | :17:23.
successive Saturdays from Morrison. His first and unstoppable drive from | :17:24. | :17:27.
the edge of the area. It's been over a year since Bobby Zamora last | :17:28. | :17:30.
scored a goal but just four minutes after coming on, that was put right | :17:31. | :17:33.
against the Glovers. Before in the last minute, Morrison made sure of | :17:34. | :17:40.
all three points. QPR have their confidence back ahead of their trip | :17:41. | :17:43.
to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night. | :17:44. | :17:51.
Brighton are just one point behind sixth place Nottingham Forest thanks | :17:52. | :17:55.
to a goal in both halves from Will Buckley at the Reebok. Adam Bogdan | :17:56. | :17:57.
must've thought he'd somehow stop Buckley's first but the winger was | :17:58. | :18:01.
there to tidy up at the second attempt. The hosts hoped they'd | :18:02. | :18:03.
equalised on the hour mark, however the assistant referee was quick to | :18:04. | :18:06.
rule out Mason's effort before Buckley ensured Brighton's fifth win | :18:07. | :18:09.
from their last seven league matches. Meanwhile, on`loan striker, | :18:10. | :18:12.
Jonathan Obika has been recalled by Tottenham and is heading for a | :18:13. | :18:14.
second spell at struggling Charlton. Fortress Vicarage Road claimed | :18:15. | :18:25.
another victim in relegation battling Barnsley. The home side | :18:26. | :18:29.
took the lead early on courtesy of Cristian Battocchio. Before Troy | :18:30. | :18:34.
Deeney made it 17 so far for him this season. With the visitors | :18:35. | :18:37.
rarely threatening, the Hornets were able to extend their lead with | :18:38. | :18:41.
Alexander Merkel getting his first for the club. And while the Watford | :18:42. | :18:45.
head coach says his team can still improve, that is now five | :18:46. | :18:48.
consecutive home victories without conceding a goal. | :18:49. | :18:59.
All five of our teams kept clean sheets in the championship. Which is | :19:00. | :19:05.
nice for a change. QPR, they got the three points against Yeovil. What do | :19:06. | :19:09.
you make of their position now? Second win in eight, and I think it | :19:10. | :19:13.
is a struggle for them to get automatic promotion now. You have to | :19:14. | :19:16.
look at a collapse above you, Burnley. That doesn't look like it's | :19:17. | :19:19.
going to happen. Wolves did it in 2002, they were riding high, 11 | :19:20. | :19:22.
points clear, collapsed, made the play`offs and didn't get promotion. | :19:23. | :19:25.
It is nice to see Morrison get another few goals, Bobby Zamora | :19:26. | :19:30.
getting the goals. But for automatic now I think it is out of their | :19:31. | :19:35.
hands. Difficult job by Harry Redknapp, but a lot of others would | :19:36. | :19:39.
fancy it with the money he's had. A lot of Premier League players in | :19:40. | :19:42.
there. What are your thoughts on where they are now? It has been a | :19:43. | :19:46.
frustrating second part of the season because they started so | :19:47. | :19:51.
brightly. Harry always likes to go and buy players, he does it very | :19:52. | :19:55.
well. Whether it's older, experienced players who come in and | :19:56. | :19:58.
do a job or someone like a loan, Morrison, a younger player. They all | :19:59. | :20:01.
do something fantastically for Harry. I think he has found the last | :20:02. | :20:05.
few months or so tricky because he has had players like Bobby Zamora | :20:06. | :20:09.
come back. They pay`out huge wages and it has come at a huge cost for | :20:10. | :20:13.
the football club. He is trying to find a way of getting the team... I | :20:14. | :20:16.
think now his only option is the play`off. Harry is a clever manager | :20:17. | :20:20.
about getting the best out of players. He has always overachieved | :20:21. | :20:24.
with what he has had. I think this year, it just changed mid`season. If | :20:25. | :20:27.
he can get them down towards the end. Losing two players has been a | :20:28. | :20:32.
blow but they still have Forrest to play, Leicester to play and Wigan to | :20:33. | :20:35.
play. They might be able to affect their season but for me at this | :20:36. | :20:39.
stage, I don't think they will do it. Ten points off automatic, just | :20:40. | :20:45.
one game in hand. OK, let's have a look at the table. Just confirm | :20:46. | :20:53.
that. If they get into the play`offs, you'd fancy them with | :20:54. | :20:56.
some of the big names they've got. Got a lot of players who have played | :20:57. | :21:05.
high`level football. Going to Wembley won't worry QPR. Let's go | :21:06. | :21:10.
down memory lane little bit, Tony. It is a few years ago now, you | :21:11. | :21:14.
played for Gillingham and you scored 110 goals. Was it? I didn't do too | :21:15. | :21:21.
bad. What are your overriding thoughts of your time back there? | :21:22. | :21:25.
Well I was a builder, then a hairdresser then ended up... A | :21:26. | :21:31.
hairdresser? Yes, I did hairdressing for two years and didn't play | :21:32. | :21:35.
football for some months. But I joined the club and was given an | :21:36. | :21:39.
opportunity by Keith Peacock. I was so raw and naive. I was off the | :21:40. | :21:45.
building site thinking, "wow I'm going to play football every day" | :21:46. | :21:49.
and I just jumped at it. It worked really. Great club. You have got so | :21:50. | :21:55.
much nostalgia with previous clubs but it was the club I played the | :21:56. | :21:58.
longest four. Six years I was at Gillingham. Great memories. Let's | :21:59. | :22:07.
have a look at how they got on at the weekend. A 1`1 draw with | :22:08. | :22:11.
Bradford. Peter Taylor's former club. Aaron Mclean with the opening | :22:12. | :22:16.
goal for the home side? Premier League football with Hull in the | :22:17. | :22:19.
season, that is a Premier League goal as well. Took it superbly well. | :22:20. | :22:23.
Cody McDonald. His 14th of the season. Good play from those two. | :22:24. | :22:27.
Getting a point away at Bradford is a decent result. Brenford, only one | :22:28. | :22:31.
of our other teams outside of the Championship won on Saturday. It is | :22:32. | :22:33.
with Crawley we begin a round`up of Leagues One and Two. | :22:34. | :22:37.
After three games without a win, Crawley claimed a precious victory | :22:38. | :22:41.
against visiting Colchester. The only goal of the game scored by Mike | :22:42. | :22:45.
Jones after hard work from his team`mates. The Ewes were more | :22:46. | :22:47.
threatening in the second 45 but were denied by the woodwork. Crawley | :22:48. | :22:50.
have now conceded just once in their last four league games at home. A | :22:51. | :22:54.
decent record to have with league leaders Wolves to come on Tuesday. | :22:55. | :23:03.
Gareth Ainsworth admitted his team simply weren't good enough against | :23:04. | :23:07.
York and apologise to the fans who'd made the trip. In his first match on | :23:08. | :23:12.
loan from Chesterfield, Sam Togwell fouled Josh Carson for the home side | :23:13. | :23:17.
to take the lead with a Ryan Bowman penalty. He added another just | :23:18. | :23:20.
before half`time breaking from a Wycombe corner, for Josh Carson to | :23:21. | :23:25.
get away a left footed shot. Wycombe's woes got worse late on | :23:26. | :23:28.
when Togwell was sent off for his second bookable offence, plenty, | :23:29. | :23:31.
Ainsworth says, for the team to put right in Tuesday's trip to | :23:32. | :23:43.
Cheltenham. For a second Saturday in a row, Dagenham were going to be | :23:44. | :23:47.
denied a win with a late equaliser. They took the lead early in the | :23:48. | :23:51.
second half when Morecambe defender, Chris McCready, was harshly judged | :23:52. | :23:53.
to have handled in the area. Medy Elito slotting home from the spot. | :23:54. | :23:58.
But then in the 89th minute, a strike from the Shrimps' skipper | :23:59. | :24:01.
Mark Hughes left the Daggers with no time to turn things around. Wayne | :24:02. | :24:04.
Burnett says his side need to manage games better with a midweek match | :24:05. | :24:06.
away at Newport County next. Wimbledon claimed a point in | :24:07. | :24:19.
dramatic fashion at the Pirelli Stadium. Promotion`chasing Burton | :24:20. | :24:22.
taking the lead when Alan Bennett fouled Dominic Knowles. Billy Kee | :24:23. | :24:27.
put away the penalty for his 13th goal of the season. The Dons | :24:28. | :24:31.
equaliser would be a first for his new club from defender, Darren | :24:32. | :24:34.
Jones, salvaging a point in the eighth minute of injury time. The | :24:35. | :24:40.
draw follows the same score line against league leaders Chesterfield. | :24:41. | :24:42.
That means Neil Ardley was pleased with two points from two tough | :24:43. | :24:44.
games. Tony, another defeat for Wycombe, | :24:45. | :24:55.
that's two in a row now. Just the three points between them and | :24:56. | :24:57.
relegation, should they be genuinely concerned? Well, York are the form | :24:58. | :25:02.
team in the league so I don't think there's any shame in losing to them | :25:03. | :25:05.
but they have a tough fortnight coming up. They have Cheltenham | :25:06. | :25:08.
midweek and then they have three teams out of the top five to play. | :25:09. | :25:12.
It will be really tight for them. Tony, we have had some tweets in | :25:13. | :25:15.
about your time at your former clubs. Del said, do you think | :25:16. | :25:19.
Millwall will ever have a squad like the one you won the Division Two | :25:20. | :25:26.
title with? Sheringham, Hurlock? At that time there was huge investment | :25:27. | :25:31.
in players. Reg Burr put a lot of money in to challenge to try to get | :25:32. | :25:37.
promoted. With that, finances does breed success. There is a legendary | :25:38. | :25:42.
story about you signing for Gillingham. I don't know if it's | :25:43. | :25:47.
true, but you signed from a non`league Kent side, Crocken Hill. | :25:48. | :25:51.
Was it true you signed for a load of balls and training equipment, | :25:52. | :25:56.
tracksuits. I have been trying to get away with this question for | :25:57. | :26:02.
years. I wasn't under contract for Crocken Hill because it was | :26:03. | :26:04.
non`league Kent football. As a gesture Gillingham bought me, gave | :26:05. | :26:06.
balls, cones, tracksuits, 12 tracksuits and some say they | :26:07. | :26:13.
overpaid! I have had all the jokes. It was done as a gesture on | :26:14. | :26:19.
Gillingham's part. So they didn't have to pay very much at all? No, I | :26:20. | :26:26.
loved that football club, I really did. I loved being around the town. | :26:27. | :26:31.
My first day there, I went and had a Wimpy and chips before my first | :26:32. | :26:34.
game. I didn't know I had been named as sub. Them days, 13 players and | :26:35. | :26:37.
the 13th was a player you didn't use. So great times. OK, it's lovely | :26:38. | :26:42.
to have you in the studio. Thanks for coming in. Mark, great to see | :26:43. | :26:44.
you as ever. Just a reminder BBC local radio has | :26:45. | :26:56.

the tennis court, you can usually find him at Griffin Park. Goodnight. | :27:21. | :27:25.
I've been a Brentford fan since I was about eight years old. It was | :27:26. | :27:31.
the first proper football ground I'd ever been to. Got the bug really | :27:32. | :27:34.
from going into the ground, smelling the grass and sampling the | :27:35. | :27:36.
atmosphere. It was quite addictive. I know a lot of the people down at | :27:37. | :27:40.
the club personally. Are you in good shape? Yeah, I've been training | :27:41. | :27:43.
hard, so... They've really looked after me and really helped me | :27:44. | :27:47.
through, not just coming down to Brentford, but supported me through | :27:48. | :27:49.
my career so you do get passionate and just hope the team do well. Go | :27:50. | :27:57.
on! Oh! Head it. Go on Brentford. SINGING. | :27:58. | :28:04.
It's a very tough day to lose in the final. I was very disappointed we | :28:05. | :28:09.
were number one and we wanted to win the gold but to then go back to the | :28:10. | :28:13.
village and see messages of support from football fans, especially from | :28:14. | :28:16.
Brentford inviting me down to the game on the Saturday to present me | :28:17. | :28:19.
with a shirt and hear everybody to say, " well done". That supported me | :28:20. | :28:23.
so much, it was very special and to know most people were proud made it | :28:24. | :28:26.
easier to accept the Silva. That is a terrible ball. Obviously we didn't | :28:27. | :28:32.
have the greatest of starts this season either, but to come back and | :28:33. | :28:36.
go on the run the boys have been on has been unbelievable really. And | :28:37. | :28:40.
obviously I think we are in a good place. I will be going to Rio in | :28:41. | :28:43.
2016 and hopefully winning the gold medal and Brentford will be moving | :28:44. | :28:46.
into Lionel Road in 2016, so hopefully we can have two big events | :28:47. | :28:50.
going on at once and hopefully I will be walking round their | :28:51. | :28:52.
20,000`seater stadium with a gold medal. | :28:53. | :28:53.
CHEERING. | :28:54. | :29:00. |
