win the group. It is a game that Honduras have to go and beat

Switzerland. They cannot affect what happens with France and Ecuador. I

have not been too impressed with Switzerland so far. They stumbled to

Honduras are struggling to score goals. Just one in two games. But it

is a game that they can go and defeat Switzerland and put

themselves back in the hunt. It is not a box office fixture on paper

but so much is riding on it. It could be an exciting game. Conceding

through, and as it stands they are doing that. There is an awful lot of

football left to be played in Group E. The goal-scorer is down as

Honduras play on. It is back with Inler. That was a good challenge by

Beckeles. It is never comfortable when the Hondurans have the ball, it

is always a poor first touch, they are fighting to make the second pass

challenge by Rodriguez, well, the referee did not think so and has

awarded a free kick. Espinosa. He drilled it straight at

Inler. Lichtsteiner. Drmic was on the move

but the ball did not reach him. It was the right option, good play

again, one and two touch passing from the Swiss. That was the

challenge from Palacios, wonderful piece of skill by Shaqiri. Getting

Garcia. Beckeles. Palacios with a touch which ultimately did not come

off. Played only as far as Claros. They are just sitting very deep

now, Switzerland, trying to do a bit of a containing job on Honduras, but

that is a dangerous game. Figaro. -- Maynor Figueroa. Drmic. That was a

fair challenge by Espinosa. Trying once again with Palacios. Juan

Carlos Garcia. Every single Switzerland player is deep inside

their own half, behind the ball. Beckeles. Honduras are maintaining

possession, played forward by Figueroa, Djourou did not get there,

he was pulling off the shoulder of Djourou. Decent ball by Figueroa,

good control to play by Honduras, Palacios was heavily involved. That

might be something they can exploit. Just a another push in the

played in humidity during your career, when you do not have the

off, trying not to exert too much energy, they do not want to blow

themselves out so they have decided to sit off and allow Honduras

possession but it is all in front of them, they are not hurting them in

Garcia of Wigan Athletic. He is getting forward, Garcia, he is a

good attacking full-back for Wigan. Certainly a player that can provide

crosses when he gets forward as well. Costly. You always feel with

Honduras that you have to expect the unexpected. You cannot relax and

settle against them, that's for sure. Unlucky not to get a draw

against Ecuador in the end. They missed some good chances in that

match. He has missed that and here is Shaqiri. A real chance for 2-0!

Hears and Switzerland's second! Shaqiri doubles their advantage. He

has scored two goals. And two for Switzerland after 31 minutes. They

cannot live with his movement. Pulling away from the defence.

Here is Palacios, for Honduras. Understandably deflated after that

second goal. The Central Americans. I think the option for them, the

best option for Honduras is to be a bit more direct. Unless it goes to

where he can control the game, there is nobody that can control the game

as well as him. They do not have the quality. Behrami. Moves it forward,

for Lichtsteiner. Six goals in the tournament is now, Switzerland. You

would have held good odds on that. Valladares in the Honduras goal

immediately finding Espinosa. On a different wavelength to Carlo

Costly. Sloppy passing, isn't it? Pretty much perfect so far in the

first half, for Switzerland. Apart from that half chance from Beckeles,

they have not really been troubled. They have not. It has been

comfortable. They did drop off and allow Honduras comfortable

possession. But they were never going to hurt them. No player

looking to run behind and create the spaces. It has been comfortable.

Really well worked goal is for Switzerland. -- goals. The

22-year-old is now on a hat-trick. He seems to have been around

forever. He seems to have played in big tournaments before. An

outstanding prospect a few years ago. We have often seen him in that

wider role. He has been deployed where he feels he can get onto it

more and her teams more. The difficulty is the quality of the

players he plays with and Bayern Munich. He might need to go

he was talking about that this season. Certainly on the radar of

injuries, you have got to get the players off. Listen to the medical

Problems for Honduras. Kept out. Just brilliant movement again. The

He had to go for goal. The angle was against him. He could not let that

position, two goals from him, the first was a fabulous strike after

six minutes. He followed it up with a second after 31. It is all going

Switzerland's way. At the break in Manaus it is Honduras zero -2

have scored two goals at the World Cup in the first half and they are

certainly in the driving seat? Just doing the right things, they have

had less possession but they have played well in the final third and

when they get into the corners they are not afraid of just putting it in

there to see what happens. They have worked hard to get forward into the

final third and they try to do something

about Cahill's, that is the only one that tops that. He is a wonderful

player with a great left foot and that is in off the bar. He has been

linked with Liverpool and you can see why. That is all he has in his

mind, getting the shot off, trying to slide people in down the sides of

the full-backs and the centre halves. Everything is going through

him at the moment. Best goal of the tournament so far? I would say

Cahill. That was special. To be fair, the goal from Leo Messi today

was great. Hondurans do not have a player that can be the difference

comment he has got real quality. There is no spark. -- difference,

who has real quality. When you play with big centre forward you have to

get balls into the box and they have nothing in there. There was only

going to be one outcome when he broke free. He is a willing runner.

Look at his little legs getting into the area. I thought to myself, will

he just played over the keeper? But he is built in a way that I do not

think he has that finesse, it is all about power and speed. It is a great

first touch and he sets himself, going on to his favoured left foot

and putting it to the other side of the keeper. I like the pass into

Shaqiri, the wait at the pass was perfect. Shaqiri does not have the

break his stride. I was with you, I thought he would try to chip the

keeper. His chips don't like, Shaqiri! -- lie. We have seen it

before. Wilson Palacios was suspended for the last game and even

in the warm up game against England they put themselves about and they

have done it again today? Yes, just a little bit but they are

overzealous and they leave their feet in. That is lazy. It is

needless. Studs over the top, that is how you get a metatarsal injury.

They are a bit heavy-handed! Look at that. He did not even get booked for

that and it was cynical. This is deeper Lassie is one that we saw

earlier in the game, coming through with a straight leg, lunging

incoming you cannot do that any more. These are just reckless

challenges. Both legs going in at once, really dangerous. I cannot

remember whether the referee gave him a yellow. John will tell you

that you cannot do that. Can we just say one thing? It is not exclusive

to the opposition, they have done it to themselves? ! By the referee not

getting out the yellow card early in the game, they will just carry on.

The referee sets a precedent, he needs to get his yellow cards out

and say, I am not accepting challenges like that. That is how

you get injured, when your tackle is needless and out-of-control, that is

when you get injured and nobody wants that. What does the manager

say? They need goals, not fouls. They need to do what Switzerland are

doing, when they get into the areas in order to cross it, that is what

you work hard on the training pitch for. The record goal-scorer, Costly

has gone off and Palacios has come on. He is not as much of a target as

Costly but they will play the same formation. They have do try to keep

the ball and keep 11 players on the pitch. They need to be more clever,

forget about the physical side, pass the ball and play your own game, do

not go around trying to smash people, they are in trouble. The

other game in the group shows France, the qualifiers from this

group, against Ecuador in Rio. Here is what has happened in the first 45

minutes. The ball into the box was not a bad one and it was not well

dealt with. That is a terrific volley. Great control on his left

foot from Cissokho. A decent save by Dominguez. Sagna Goes forward. They

are not out of the woods yet. Sagna crosses it. The goalkeeper came. He

barely made acquaintance with the ball at all. Dominguez gets lucky.

If they fall away, Ecuador, the last bit of belief may ebb away. That is

a good save by Dominguez. And a pretty good header, two, there.

Curled in. Antonio Valencia in the penalty area. Valencia! That was a

good save. Look at the leap from Valencia, that is incredible, how

high he gets. It was quite a simple save for Hugo Lloris in the end.

Goalless at half-time in Rio. We have clearly got a better game here

on BBC Three! Group winners France will play Nigeria in the next round

and Switzerland will play the runners-up, Argentina. Plenty still

to play for here but not for England, the squad landed in

Manchester earlier today after their goalless draw with Costa Rica

yesterday. They finished bottom of the group. Gabby Logan reports for

of a happy Brazil. If England were to take off at this

tournament they needed to be more than the sum of their parts, the new

golden generation would need to play with style, rhythm and adventure,

befitting a World Cup in Brazil. It started brightly, positivity,

openness, and the winning of hearts and minds in the sunshine but this

campaign was always about victory on the pitch, not of it. First stop,

the Amazon and Manaus where pre-match talk of positions was

eclipsed by familiar faces and old problems. Lovely dummy! Sturridge is

in the middle, that was a good ball from Rudy and a good finish by

Sturridge. Balotelli is going to get there. -- from Rooney. Down but not

out and hope beneath the disappointment, a new sense of

purpose that was maybe once lost. Sao Paulo, the most populous City,

it was not so much must win, rather mustn't lose. Luis Suarez gives

it in. Bitten again by the devil we know, crushing disappointment writ

large, the unthinkable became thinkable. Results elsewhere

confirmed the worst, England's first group stage exit since 58. By the

time of the last game in Belo Horizonte, the fingers of blame were

already pointing, this was the most dead of dead rubbers. Sturridge is

on to the return but he puts it wide. They are going home without a

win. 0-0. What next for England? The manager is secure for now, the

captain is tight-lipped about his own future and age-old arguments are

resurfacing, coaching techniques, the FA versus the Premier League,

but for now, let's just enjoy the football. The recriminations

continue of course after a bitterly disappointing tournament as far as

England are concerned. Despite the negatives are there any positive

aspects to England's showing? The big positive is that England have

found a centre forward in Daniel Sturridge. He got his goal, he was

lively in all of the games. Yes, he missed a few chances but I never

mind the striker missing chances because he is getting in there. Look

at Sterling, Berkeley, Wiltshire, Luke Shaw, and Walcott coming back.

The future is looking good with all of them young players. Wayne Rooney

did not have a bad tournament either. There were not many good

things to come out of the tournament, three defeats, in my

opinion we conceded four goals and we were not as good as the rest but

Harry Cahill was still strong, he tried to lead vocally, and I think

we have also found a centre forward and a future captain. That is the

next question, relating to that, Gerard Van Lampard, is that the last

time we will see them in an England shirt? -- Steven Gerrard and

Lampard. He is still the best in that role, in front of the back

four, he passes it as good as anyone, there is not a lot expected

of him defensively, he just needs to intercept and he can cover 20 or 30

yards and intercept passes and things like that and he cannot hit

long and short. While he is fit and in the Liverpool side, why not carry

on? Out of the two of them, you would think about Frank, you can

always get you a goal, whether he will do it at world level or Premier

League level, he will always get you a goal, or create chances for

others, I hope it is not the end because they still have a lot to

offer. They have stuck by Roy Hodgson. Soon after we knew the fate

of the team. Were they right? Personally I do not want to change

all the time. You have got to have stability? Yes otherwise you will

never have it. If things do not go right you have do have the

ingredients to put it right next time, if you keep changing you will

never do that. Do you agree? Sticking with him was the right

decision, questions will be asked about some of the teams that he

picked, I would have gone for more flair and more youth, I would have

picked le Larner in the first game, and also Ross Barkley. -- Adam

Lallana. England will get behind him. I would like to scene a bit

more of Rickie Lambert. He could have been thinking, he could have

done more. He can score goals. I think he was wasted. I think he has

got great feat. We will get back to Manaus in a moment but the final

macro-2 groups are decided. USA and Germany, and Portugal and Ghana,

kick-off for both matches is at five o'clock. These are the scenes. The

players are almost ready to come out for the second half. Switzerland

will be the happiest. Leading 2-0. What do Honduras have to do to give

themselves any chance of getting out of the group? They would obviously

like to get an early goal. Kevin said in commentary that the way

forward he thinks is to go a bit more direct. They need to stop

conceding. Xherdan Shaqiri is on a hat-trick. He will be feeling

confident. He will be looking to get his third. An early goal for

Honduras would be a positive start to the half. It would suit them.

With Switzerland, the centre halves, they have just got to concentrate.

In a situation like this, the next goal as we always say is very

important. Rodriguez at left back and Lichtsteiner have got to be more

structured as a back four. One goes, one stays. If you concede, the

game is over. Back to Manaus, Kevin and Steve. COMMENTATOR You get the

feeling that it is important for Switzerland in terms of their hopes

for qualification, but it might not be about Manaus, it might be about

throwing himself at it. He could not make any contact. I think he could

London. Which Honduras takes very seriously in terms of international

is a big chance. We spoke about it at the start. They need an early

defending to do here. He has looked comfortable at times. Could get

found out if they do get through the group stages, the knockout phase.

keep missing. It was a very simple play forward. A game going behind

Rodriguez was not to know that. Very good defending.

The Wolfsburg man was in the right place at the right time, certainly.

That is the problem. You always associate Swiss sides with being

defensively sound and found wanting against France. But in the early

part of this half, they struggled defensively. They have got attacking

options. But at the back they certainly can be exposed.

Jerry Palacios. That has been Switzerland's way. Xherdan Shaqiri.

Dispossessed by Chavez. Then fouled by the player that originally gave

the ball away. Free kick, Honduras. The Argentine official quickly

diffusing the situation. It has gone Switzerland's way. I'm sure they

would have expected a response. They certainly got it. They have opened

up the Swiss defence. We keep going on about the point against France.

How badly exposed they were at times. Phillippe Senderos, left out

today. He was on the bench. Wilson Palacios is trying to find his

brother, Jerry. Out by Olivier Giroud. A rare defeat against

France, for the Swiss. Just their second in their last 20 matches.

cards around, he has history of getting his yellow cards out but

it now and you think they should have got a penalty, they could have

forwards are paid to do, score goals and put it in the back of the net,

if you do not do that you have no chance of winning. That is a sitter.

Cup finals. They got this far and they created so many chances that

they will be disappointed that they did not get something out of the

game because towards the end of the game they did deserve a bit more.
