Good evening England may be going home, but for Japan and Colombia the

music plays on, for one more night at least.

With me in Rio de Slford, two men who are no strangers to a dance

floor, John Hartson and Dion Dublin. Great to see you guys. Before I get

your thoughts on today's game, let's show you what happened in the games

in Group D. England v Costa Rica plus Italy v Uruguay and another

astonishing incident involving Luis Suarez.

Uruguayan captain, with nine minutes to go. Is that the goal that sends

them into the knockout stages and sends Italy home? We have seen big

talking points on the pitch. Off the pitch, in a certain way, Luis

Suarez. It defies belief, we are talking about a biting incident with

the Uruguayan again? I'm shaking my head. No words can come out. If you

watch this here. He's just blatantly trying to get across his defender.

And he bites him on the shoulder. What is he doing? You know, he just

let himself down. His players, his fans, his family I don't understand

what goes through your mind. John, there is no doubt he has gone in

there, is there? You see Chiellini's reaction. Ramirez is trying to cover

it up. If you look at Luis Suarez's reaction after the game. When you

compare it to the England result where he scored he was brilliant. He

knows he is bang in trouble here. FIFA have the right to impose

football activity bans that would include club level. What punishment

would you like to see? For the one on Ivanovic, I'm sure, was it

10-games for Ivanovic - 10 for the Premier League. Seven for when he

did it the Ajax? I don't know you have to do more to make sure he

realises this is unacceptable, on the world stage especially, when you

go back to your own club, you can't do that. It has to be strong, it

really has. It's the third time. The people I feel sorry for are Brendan

Rogers who fought -- Rodgers. You were going to say tooth and nail...

Yeah. And the Liverpool fans. He scored with Uruguay. They got their

goal. 1-0 up at the time. Why do it? A quick word on England who go out

of the tournament with a point. What did you make of their performance

against Costa Rica I'm disappointed. I know we have the talent to do

better. I know individually we've got some unbelievable talent. We

started talking about we won't get out of the Group. Then a great

selection of the team. He will be OK. Not enough know how. I don't

think we had enough know how on how to win games and how not to lose

games. Exciting players. Exciting squad, not enough know how. OK.

Moving on to our game here on BBC Three tonight. That is Japan against

Colombia. Here is a tale then of the Group so far.

All they need to worry about is winning this game by two clear

goals. If Ivory Coast draw with Greece, Japan will leapfrog them.

will be on top of it. Plenty for both teams to think about. Colombia

know a point will win them a group. Is there a case to be made that

finishing second would suit them more? Well, I still think, you know,

if you can go and win all three games in the Group stages, and you

the ascendancy you keep going. The team he picked tonight, eight

changes, there is only three players that start from the team that beat

the Ivory Coast in the last game. If I was the manager, I'd be saying -

let's keep going. Let's keep going. Let us try and win the game. It's

very, very difficult to pick a game where you can think, well, shall we

go easy in this game? Can we draw this game? For me it's about winning

and staying in that good mould as a They set team. The stage with their

counter-attacking style in this tournament? Both full-backs will get

Japan have struggled in this tournament, as the Asian champions

The Crazy Country. Two decades on, Colombia is in a different place.

recognisable figure of that side was skipper Columbia's greatest ever

player has been giving his thoughts on the current crop to Dan Walker.

Great to talk to you on the BBC - how good a World Cup has this been

so far for you? TRANSLATION: I think it is a very good World Cup, because

many goals have been scored, and this is what supporters like. How

impressed have you been with Colombia, they have played some

lovely football? The people who came from Colombia to Brazil are happy.

They have been to the stadiums and enjoyed themselves. The most

beautiful thing is that things are going well, we are scoring goals and

we have qualified. You are still seen as a hero to this group of

Colombian players. We had James Rodriguez saying how you inspired

him now? I have always been a supporter of James Rodriguez,

because since he was a child, he was in the youth team of Columbia.

People always asked me, who would replace Valderamma? So there he is

and he will be there for a long time so we are very, very happy. It is

easy to forget that this is a team without its star man, Falcao? These

things happen in football, in sport. As Falcao is not here, James

appeared. This means that the team has got good players. When they

select one, there is another one entering, and he can replace without

any problems. What about the situation in the group going into

the final game? We never won two games, one after the other. To score

five goals in two games, it is a great satisfaction, so our country

is happy. How far can you go? I am optimistic. The way things are

going, we could be the surprise of this World Cup. Your hair made you

instantly recognisable around the world - have you ever been tempted

to change it? No, not yet! It is shorter now because I am older, and

I do not think I will be cutting it off for a long time. So, that is the

Colombian angle covered. Japan have what seems to be a near impossible

task tonight, winning well here, and hoping Greece can do them a favour.

Japan, the Blue Samurai, epitomised by their opening match, where they

took the lead against Ivory Coast but let it slip. It took until 1998

for Japan to reach the World Cup Finals, but in the animated world,

they made their match long before that. These cartoons were what

inspired Fernando Torres to become a footballer. In 2002, they reached

the last 16 on home soil. The current team are arguably more

talented, with their European -based stars. At an early exit awaits

unless they can start turning their promise into points. Here is the

line-up, you have been looking at this one, Dion Dublin? Yes, I think

Okubo has come in, who is a decent player, and Kagawa, we know a lot

about. Those are the only two changes. But going forward, they try

to get the ball into Honda, and play their little one-twos. I think it is

the right-back, Uchida, who likes to get forward, as does neither Moto.

They like to do lots of overlaps. Japan's problem has been scoring

goals, something they have got to do tonight, and Dion, you have had some

thoughts on this. This is neither Moto with a quick throw. He finds

Honda in that little pocket. If you look at this, one pass takes those

players out. It is a left foot strike into the top corner. A short

throw, and nobody in the defence has taken responsibility. Honda strikes

in the top corner, that is what he can do. This one is a crossfield

ball. They do try and play short but in the end decide to go over the

top, with this pass from Yamaguchi. Uchida misses out Honda, and goes to

the second striker. But you watching here, he was more comfortable on his

right foot. Tenacious, stays strong, tries to get on his right foot. Free

kick here, nothing really comes of it, but they try to create chances

when they can. These are the live pictures from Cuiaba, with kick-off

just moments away. Predictions? DION DUBLIN: I think Japan, they may

be able to get something, they may make a draw tonight.

JOHN HARTSON: I think Japan have got a great chance to get a result,

seeing as Columbia have made nine changes, including three out of the

back for. So there is an opportunity for Japan tonight simply because of

those changes. I still think Columbia will want to go and win the

game, but I feel Japan could get at them. For now, guys, thank you very

JONATHAN PEARCE: Good evening, everyone. Still searingly hot here

in the arena which is named after a huge wetland area, half the size of

France, which floods during the rainy season. Not a rain cloud in

sight today, though, for the final game in the World Cup in this

stadium. It will be a final game as well and a flight back across the

Pacific for Japan unless they win here and Ivory Coast do not beat

Greece. For Colombia, a draw will be enough for them to win the group,

and set them up for a game with Uruguay. We will keep you updated on

the other game, as the evening progresses. Seven of the ten teams

so far through to round two. Japan, technically the home side, lining up

to the left of the halfway line, all in blue. As we stand for the

magnificent supporters throughout this World Cup. Very colourful, full

to the Japanese. Japan have dominated possession in their two

matches, but they have had just six shots on target. They bring in

Shinji Kagawa, having dropped him to the bench for the Greece game. Okubo

has been very poor, but remains in the team. Otherwise, Aoyama makes

his debut in midfield in this tournament. He has got a thunderous

shot, I can tell you. The captain starts again, even though he does

not seem fully fit. He has been out with injury for five months up to

Any moment now, we will get a shot of the referee, the man who sent off

Alex Song against Croatia. He is to do get the final by some, if he

remains steady, and Portugal go out. With the 38-year-old captain

rested, the goalkeeper is wearing the armband for Colombia. There will

be eyebrows raised in the Ivory Coast and Greece camps, at the

Columbia selection, with 80 changes. -- with eight changes. Quintero has

looked lively. Ramos is just about to move from her to Berlin to

Dortmund. He is highly rated. Falcao of course out of these World

Cup Finals with an injury he picked up playing in French football.

Japanese coaches Zaccheroni has been on a one-year rolling contract. This

could be his last game. Jose Pekerman as a side which is playing

scintillating attacking football once again.

MARK LAWRENSON: I did not tell you my story about Zaccheroni, from the

Confederations Cup. I was on a flight, and I sat in the very front

seat, front row, I sat next to Zaccheroni and unknown. That is the

end of the story, but you could have some lines from that! -- and a nun.

Quite possibly the last major match to be played in a stadium which cost

?150 million. They found gold here many years ago. I am afraid they

will find a white elephant in this stadium. Temperatures touching 90

Fahrenheit. We could well have drink 's breaks during the game.

Japan just had to come and play, they have got to be progressive.

This starting XI for Colombia has never played together before, so

take advantage of possible. The Japanese centre-backs have been

pressing higher than they have been in the early stages of a game

before, which would suggest Japan plan to play a lot of their football

in the opposing half. Their captain, who has been disappointing, but he

has had that injury problem. Am I right in thinking that if Columbia

top the group, they would play Uruguay, without Suarez, I would

have thought. I would have thought so, yes. There is a lot of flack

already on social media about the biting incident. If you have not

seen it, you will get a chance to see it later on, but he clearly

seemed to bite Giannini before the Uruguay winner, which sent Italy

out. It is the third such incident in Suarez's career. Should FIFA

decide to punish him, which they surely must, it is difficult to see

how he could continue in the competition.

team, if you like, playing just as a first team? Absolutely. Why not, by

the way. The thing about the first team, when I saw them the other day,

lightning quick on the counter-attack. Just as we saw

Martinez. Back to Quintero. Ramos involved as well. Cuadrado. He needs

support. Back to him. Looking for Santiago Arias, starting today. You

can see there is an urgency and difference between the two teams,

aren't they? Colombia are, come on, let's just go for this. You had an

Rainforest up towards the north. The great wetlands down to the south of

us here. That should be dealt with by the goalkeeper, who watched it go

out of the play. More fallout from the Italy game. I'm told that the

Italian manager has announced he is resigning. No more Italian football

You always think the football is somewhat hurried, isn't it?

Japan have been very well supported here. There are more Japanese

immigrants in any other country, bar the USA. They are here at another

finals of course. Fifth appearance in a row. Can they progress? Is it

considered a relatively easy Group to get out of, in terms of

qualification? I would think so, yeah. In terms of world ranking,

England's group was the toughest, or looked likely to be the toughest. At

the draw at Christmas, we were warning people not to under estimate

Costa Rica. They play at such a pace. Such a

quick pace, as have Colombia. But in a more controlled way, than that

quick pace you talk about Japan? Hurried. You always feel it's

hurried. The conditions, they are so used to the conditions, the South

American teams. In towards Honda. If the full-backs pushed on for Japan

at times, it makes it about three. There's Pekerman. I wondered

Johnathon why he decided to play Cuadrado. He's an important player

to him. He left nearly everybody else out. It's a little bit strange

that. This will be a corner. They made that horrible error in Germany,

do you remember? They lost control of the game and went out in a

shoot-out. He was in charge of Argentina.

brilliant the other day. They bring a 38-year-old and England say we

can't bring John Terry. Would you have brought either one? I would

have brought John Terry all day long. The left-back had pushed right

on. Attacking intent today for Japan. That is for sure. Deflected.

Just deflected away off the head of Carlos Valdes. It's a corner. It

would be interesting to see whether it was actually on target. There's

another drive from range. This time from Hasebe. Easily dealt with. Two

short corners down the left. Sweet strike or a decent cross in. If

Colombia win the group Ivory Coast finish second. That little

left-foot. Rodallega only on the bench. Monaco player, third in the

French Player of the Year votes. Kagawa, perhaps something to prove

today. The edge of the palate area. Bounces back. Can they get the shot

He has given it away. Honda. Just having a little joy in their own

inside left position, Japan. Seem to have a man in there spare all the

time. Now, Colombia will bring it away.

Martinez looking for Ramos. Palate kick. Pleads his innocence. The

referee blew immediately. A palate all day long. The player is not

going anywhere. He is going away from the goal. Trying to get control

of the ball. He did his job if he stayed there the defender and just

held. Madness. won the ball. But he played the man.

I think it will be quadrant of who will take the penalty. -- Cuadrado.

The number of naive challenges we have seen defensively in this World

Cup has been staggering. Cuadrado, to send Japan a few feet nearer

home. 1-0. Listen to that roar. Daft, isn't it? Japan generally were

having a nice spell, playing decent football, in and around the

opposition penalty area -1 moment of madness, and they are 1-0 down.

Finished the season brilliantly at Fiorentina. And this is his first in

these finals. He has used him as a right back as well in qualifying,

Jose Pekerman. Is a good, versatile player, 36 years of age, Cuadrado.

Really blossomed under Pekerman in the last 18 months.

Japan heading home. Ivorian 's will be celebrating that goal.

Columbia were always going to win Group C today, unless there were

some exceptional results. It is the first time they have won two games

in the finals, let alone three. Cuadrado has assisted in three of

their five goals so far, and now scored one himself.

An open sort of game, though. Will this be another World Cup 2014

thriller? We have seen a few. We have seen some howlers as well, it

has to be said. Speak for yourself! It is you! We have had a few. Japan

against Greece was one. If it has got Greece in the title, you know it

is not going to be good. Decent enough throw. And it has

drawn the corner kick. The great thing for Colombia is that they do

not have to change the way they play. Gifted a goal, sit there at

1-0, play on the break. Third corner of the half for Japan. Taken by

Honda. The captain came and got it away.

Two Japanese players in the box, four defenders. But as we have seen

throughout the tournament so far, Japan are not getting enough bodies

forward quick enough. Not enough speed in their build-up. Zaccheroni

has complained about a lack of creativity. You might argue that up

until last night, there had not been enough speed in Brazil's build-up,

or Argentina's. All very considered. And then you look at

teams like Costa Rica. It is not exactly a golden generation of

players, is it? That is a silly foul, given away by Balanta. He was

trying to pinch it, and he ran into the back of him. Other teams are

checking on him, but he can be a little bit headstrong. He was sent

off three times in eight games this season. Wasn't around Christmas, was

it? He finished off well, in the finale tournament - the season split

in two in Argentina. Let's see what Japan can do now. It shows you how

far back the walls used to be, six or seven yards at best!

Honda over it. Sofas all Aoyama. Honda! Hit the wall, very

disappointing. If you notice as well, the referees

now have to tell the players in the wall about arms up before every free

kick. They raise their arms to the players and say, you have got to

keep your arms by your side, otherwise I will give a penalty.

That is a move in the right direction as well. Yes.

They have travelled in such great numbers. It is about 500 miles here

from Bolivia, away to the West. Central Brazil to the east.

Every time he gets the ball, his legs are moving faster than his

brain, which is a problem. This time it was a tumble, and no penalty. He

was a little bit unlucky, the ball got a bit stuck behind him.

from Uchida. I would suspect Colombia will be able to deal with

that sort of thing all day long. Is just a little bit hit-and-hope, I am

afraid. Greece are about to make another substitution against Ivory

It must be seriously hot for them down there. It is baking up here in

the commentary box. This is the most open of the grounds, open to

whatever breeze varies. -- there is. It is a little bit like Ibrox, isn't

think that is four times Japan have gone through that little hole. In

If Japan only had a spearhead, they would have been far more dangerous

in these World Cup Finals. I am going to test your knowledge now -

have they ever had an out and out striker, a major goal-scorer? You

are really testing that knowledge now, I am trying to think. I you

thinking by looking at your sheets?! I am, of course! Kamamoto

scored 18 goals for them, as I am sure you remember. Their third

scorer is Kizaki, with 38. He was more impressive in the last finals,

as a substitute, coming off the bench. -- Okazaki. I just thought

they looked a better team in the last finals, more about them.

Okazaki scored in the last Confederations Cup, when they were

very entertaining. Colombia lead 1-0 through the

penalty by Cuadrado. Kagawa, difficult board to play, with three

Everything they do, it is not about keeping possession for no reason, it

is about getting into dangerous areas. Was that a lack of awareness

from Japan? May be trying to do a bit too much. Technically they are

very good players. But just get it in the box, give yourself a chance.

But Japan have had their chances, John, particularly from Kagawa? Yes,

at a lot of the chances it is Kagawa coming in from the left, opening up

from open play as far as Colombia were concerned? Yes, I thought the

half-time whistle was going to come and they would go in and they would

be down. But they didn't, they chipped away. They got into a

position where we are saying, you have got to cross it, and this time,

they did cross it. Right at the end. His first thing is, can I get it in

the box? Four players in the box, and Okazaki gets himself a goal.

There has been so much talk about centre forwards getting across their

man, and that is what Okazaki did. But you have got to cross it, they

have had several chances to do so and have not done it. And how does

all this change tone of the manager's half-time team talk? For

me, Japan have been the better team. It is just rewards, really, getting

the goal. I think they will now feel more confident going into the second

half. You might fancy them to go on and win the game. They are very

comfortable on the ball, it is just getting the dangerous players, they

are all good technically but they are not using their talents to the

Colombia at the World Cup, one player's tragic story stands out.

target, four goals. Again, Japan, they played well with the ball at
