Good afternoon, it's the return of action from group B today, Wales and

England will be looking on in interest as Russia face Slovakia. It

is not just the football under scrutiny but also the actions of the

supporters. Vasili Berezutski's late equaliser for Russia at the Stade

Velodrome has been overshadowed by what happened after that in the

stands. Uefa have since handed Russia a ?120,000 fine and

threatened their future participation in the tournament if

there is any more trouble inside the stadium. That is the important

point, isn't it? Many people have been embarrassed by the actions of

England fans in Marseille but inside the stadium Uefa have control and

you were both in the stadium, for the game between England and Russia,

what was it like that, Martin? The flare went off and it was scary. You

have too few of the players because they had family and friends in the

stand and you saw that rush of fans going across and we have not seen

that in a stadium since the 80s. That was frightening for anyone with

any loved ones there. It was a very difficult moment. They cannot allow

this to happen in the stadium. Uefa can only make these judgments based

on what happens in the stadium. From my point of view, the England fans

behaved impeccably, this is within the stadium, had a good time, and

when the final whistle went, I'm honestly not seen anything like it

in a long time, the way they rushed to that one stand and England fans

were literally running for their lives at times. Kids and women in

their, it was quite shocking, I have to say. I have to reiterate that I

thought England fans in the stadium behaved very well. We will have to

keep a close eye on that in the coming days and hopefully we can

concentrate on the action on the pitch because there is plenty. This

is how things stand, Wales proudly on top and a draw would be the best

outcome from a home Nations perspective. Wales are guaranteed at

least third place in this group and remember of the best third placed

teams, four go through to the knockout stage, from a Slovakian

point of view, they know that this is a big one.

So, Russia and Slovakia go toe to toe in there in a few minutes, the

Stade Pierre Mauroy while in Lille. Not the first time there has been a

closed roof, one happened in 2012. Germany and Ukraine played there a

few days ago and it will also host one of the quarterfinals this

summer. 50,000 fans will watch an unchanged Russian side from their

match with England. Three changes for Slovakia and you can see the

teams going through for you there. In terms of this game, I know Russia

got the late equaliser but in terms of the way they played both were

disappointed with their opening games? I remain convinced that

England played very well and made it very difficult for Russia to show

anything at all. But they were dangerous on set pieces and headers

as we saw with the last goal. I feel that there is a lack of creativity

in the midfield from Russia, as opposed to the other teams we have

seen in the tournament. And for Slovakia, they have do hang in

there, this game is depending on their talismanic midfielder, Hamsik.

Martin and I were watching the Portugal Iceland game and at one

point Martin was dragging me into a makeshift back four to show me how

to defend. Two of the best offenders involved in the game, Martin you

were a great man marker, what have you made of the standard so far?

There is a lot of ball watching going on. Last night I was listening

to commentary and Pepe never looks at his opponent and if he does he

can communicate better and he can resolve it. I'm really surprised to

see that happening with top defenders not actually looking. You

just used to take a photograph, see what is against you and then deal

with it. That has slipped out of the game. Tonucci has been stand out,

with and without the ball, his passing has been magnificent and he

reads the game well. Italy have taken it to the next level and we

have seen good defending, the smaller teams have resisted against

bigger teams, but then you saw Italy's performance and it's the

first time that I've seen a team really having a perfect game plan

defensively. I will add that this, I thought England were pretty solid.

Martin is nodding. He will take that. Dzyuba is the sort of player

that you want to get your teeth into. In your first game you want to

be able to deal with things, I would sooner that player rather than

Gareth Bale, running at me with real pace and power. You love taking on

the big man! I can see a glint in your eye. Italy have that connection

across the back four from playing at Juventus and Russia have the same

thing with CSKA Moscow, Slutsky is a manager domestically and

internationally. Smolnikov is very quick, he is a phenomenal outlet for

Russia. It really did surprise me, Raheem Sterling is not slow and he

eats up the ground on him in no time. It was surprising to see

Raheem Sterling's reaction, it told you everything you needed to know,

he knew that he did not have him for pace. Better players will find you

there. There is more opportunities that he could have got into. Raheem

Sterling's reaction to not wanting to run past him any more told me how

quick this guy is. He was a constant threat down the right. This is the

right back towards the end of the game pressing Wayne Rooney on his

opposition goal line. That shows you the mentality, just how offensive

thinking he is. That is the Russian side of things but when we look at

Slovakia, Duda is starting, he got the equaliser. Hamsik had a mixed

game against Wales? He had a mixed game because there's a lot of

expectation on him. We thought Wales did well defensively, but luck, he

is always looking forward looking break lines and create something.

How he demands the ball there, he turns around, terms with the ball

and then goes forward. Simple pass, but he has broken a lot of lines.

Then there is the quality of the player, he is always able to lift

his head up, it is like he has a lot of time on the ball but it was

difficult when he got closer to goal. Six Welsh players there. It

was difficult for him. He could not really make use of the pockets. This

is what you expect from him in the rest of the tournament, his quality,

getting past people. Great defending, but if we see more of

this from Hamsik then Slovakia will have a chance. The teams are in the

tunnel. If Hamsik does his job then another man, as to do his because he

mops up in midfield. I think Hook had a very good game against Wales,

he is a player who, if you are to get the best out of Hamsik, he has

to perform. -- I think Kucka. I think he is better than Hamsik.

Everyone wants to talk about him. It's not a bad team, they beat

Germany recently. The Russians, they run the legs off Russia, England. I

will go for Slovakia. Russia. Draw. The perfect set, just like we

planned it. Let's get over to Lille for the 13th game of the Euros. Mark

Always one of the most recognisable national anthems. Let's hope and

pray that everybody behaves themselves and that we will hear it

again at least one more time and these European Championships.

This is the team use. We start with Russia, whilst conceding that

England dominated his side on Saturday, lay in its use or enough

to say same again. Neuer that and Smolov were considered the most

likely to be left out. -- Roman Neustadter. He and Dzyuba are

expected to be more involved today as Russia put the emphasis on what

they rather than the opponents will do.

Russia against Slovakia. We have a refereeing team from Slovenia, led

by Damir Skomina. He did have three games at the last European

Championship four years ago including the 3-2 win of England

over Sweden. Very experienced. Much of his conversations with the

players today will take place in English. Three changes from the team

beaten by Wales in Bordeaux. Hubocan and Duda come in to start. For Duda

it is reward for equalising less than a minute after coming on

against Wales. Hubocan plays in Russia.

It's a wonderful stadium. The roof is closed. It holds around 50,000.

There is not quite that many inside today. Some may have been put off

from attending by events of the field. It is all quiet so far. Let's

hope that the game is anything but. It's going to be Russia who get the

action underway. One point on the board. Slovakia seeking their first.

Ak Russia get things going and immediately give a feel of the ball

to Igor Akinfeev. He looked as solid as usual against England. He is

prone to the occasional error, but many keepers do. Yes, many do. Rush

will feel like -- Russia will feel like it was a win the other night

against England. We can expect them to be more attack-minded than they

were in Marseille. Ignashevich put under immediate

pressure. Hurrying at the back for Slovakia was Hubocan. There is a

worry for Russia. Yes, the way he is holding his hand, it looks like he

has hurt his hand or his arm. It was Smolnikov who took the brunt of

that. He played well the other night. Arguably one of their better

players. Smolnikov an attack-minded right back, good enough to have been

linked with Barcelona once or nice. I think it's his hand. Leonid hopes

he is OK. The rock and deep-breathing doesn't suggest he

is. Breathe in, breathe out! Feeling the tension - that is what it can

do. Huge pressure on him. Russia expects. And that is a lot to ask of

a coach who is effectively doing this job as a favour to the

federation. Picking up the pieces after Fabio Capello's reign didn't

end well. Didn't really start well. Free kick now for Slovakia. Given by

the referee's assistant, not by the referee. Shchennikov clearly fouls

his man. Mak with the delivery for Slovakia.

It needed to be hammered behind for a corner by Kokorin. Robert Mak was

at Manchester City from the ages of 13 to 19. Was an FA youth cup winner

with them. Hamsik is the key player. What were you saying about Hamsik?

Managed to put it out of play. It is not easy you know. Neither is this.

Not the way we do it! The Slovakians have found their

voice! You see how Russians the push the full-backs on.

Pekarik couldn't quite climb high enough. It will be a Russian throw.

Disyou Ba challenges -- Dzyuba challenges for it, he is six foot

five. Sometimes the really tall ones don't jump as high. Do you know why?

Because they have never had to! Dzyuba doesn't do a lot of chases.

Martin Skrtel one of five Slovakia players on a yellow card, which is

worth thinking about for England's final group game.

Dzyuba, I said he doesn't do a lot of chasing. Into feet. That is how

he wants it - into feet, on to head. Was involved in half of Russia's

goals they scored in qualifying. Shchennikov will have to be more

accurate than that in trying to find Dzyuba. It is played back to

Kozacik. He is no-nonsense, Berezoutsky. A few anxious Slovakian

faces. More Nan in Russia's cases. Oh, he is Russian all right. It is a

dare not lose for Slovakia. Got to get something from the game. Another

cheap free kick conceded. Well won by Shchennikov. Golovin had

a clear route to goal. Slalom wasn't it by Dzyuba. Not the first player

you would have to be included in the challenges. He is a unit.

Here is Shatov, a very skilful player. Done it again haven't I? You

have. Ran out of room on that occasion.

We can surmise the opening exchanges as scrappy? Yes, but a bit of room,

which is good. Both teams playing quite deep. Especially Slovakia.

Duda is the most prominent in afabbing. He is to -- in attack. He

is a false 9. He is seen as the heir apparent to Hamsik as their No 10

attacking midfielder. Here is Hamsik. He got hold of it

all right. Just couldn't keep the ball under the bar. Yes, poor play

by the ruckses, give -- Russians, giving the ball away in that area.

First touch was great. Not the worst second touch either. It wasn't far

away at all. Hamsik third on the list of his country's top scorers

with 18 international goals. Slovakia a recent addition to the

international calendar. Smolnikov place it back to the

defender. Duda was caught late. The referee

did great, trying to let them play, trying to let the game breathe a

bit. The referees have tried to do that. Very good. They have been

great. That will be a free kick. He can't

let that one go. Free kick in a hittable position. I think it was

about three fouls in one, wasn't it? Golovin was the offender, the

youngest player in the Russian squad, but he already knows a few

tricks! Maybe just a little too far out to be strikable? Do you think

so? I'm not sure. The middle of the goal. What do you do? You have got

to be 100% accurate if it is to go to either of the sides. Akinfeev is

not sure. No, he is stood in the middle of the goals as well. He

should have lamped it. He has played ten years in Russia. Someone's been

doodling on his neck! Not for you? I could see you with one of those!

13 largely uneventful minutes have passed. Well we could say Slovakia

looked a little bit better. They're on the front foot now. Won by

Berezutsky, but it will be a Skrtel jumps, couldn't get the

power. Akinfeev is in a hurry to get Smolov off and running. He was seen

off by Hubocan. Hasn't been more than one goal in

the last four meetings of these two nations. You're not selling it! Just

hope the usual things happens and we see the opposite. I wouldn't think

too many of these players have played under the roof. How much

would that change things? It just feels like night. If that is all it

is there is not a great deal I wouldn't have thought.

A little bit more humidity, maybe. A bit of away swing?

The foul was committed by Vladimir Weiss. Left his leg hanging a bit.

There is a chance for Russia here. Where is Berezutski going? He is at

the back of it all. The ball will not reach him. Duda heads it away.

Schennikov. There is Berezutski. That was Hamsik.

Duda is making his way forward. Alongside him is Kucka. Slovakia

throw. Slovakia look pretty bright when countering. Yes, a little bit

more aggressive going forward than Russia, certainly. Is pace the issue

with the Russian team? Well, yes, a little bit. They don't seem to have

ball carriers from midfield. Unless the two fullbacks are running.

One of those fullbacks, Georgy Schennikov, will take the throw in

here. Wales will face Russia in their final game and he is the one

who they may not be facing, the only Russian player on a card.

Here is Smolnikov. He can run. Could not quite get away from Weiss, he

did decent work to get back with him. He will know this referee at

Lake, Vladimir Weiss, playing in cat. -- playing in Qatar. This

referee does referee the odd game in Qatar when not on Slovenian duty.

You should never know that! I got to the stadium nice and early today.

He always seems to be hurried? Yes. He is skittish. Both centre backs

are a bit skittish with the ball. That is helped on nicely. That was

not hit quite so well by Theodore Skull of -- Fedor Smolov. It nicely.

20 goals in the league last season in 29 games. He just hits right

across it. We know what he is saying, don't we? He looks a little

calmer than he did just after kick-off. That is a brilliant take

and turn. The Napoli man returned it to Vladimir Weiss who has to work to

keep it but he does just that. Pekarik wide. There was a ball

through to him. I think there is a brawl to the right back, in all

honesty, too many touches. He was just wrong-footed there. It's a

Russian throw in. I may have mentioned this before but

if Ignashevich and Berezutski lose the ball, the fullbacks are 30 or 40

metres up the pitch and they would be in trouble. Smolnikov tries to

get in the box. Dzyuba does get there and goes down under the

challenge. Good tackle. It looks like a good tackle. The referee had

to look through the crowd to see it and maybe got them not from the man

behind the goal. It was a good tackle. Nothing wrong with that from

Jan Durica. It is a long way to go down. Corner in. Ignashevich helps

it on. Smolov was not set right. Not a great clearance from Kozacik. Has

to go back to Ignashevich again. What have we done? 20 minutes? 21.

20 minutes of two very ordinary teams, I would suggest. Nothing

really for either keeper to do yet, other than things like that. Easy

enough for Akinfeev. Skrtel's header almost picked off by

Roman Neustadter. That was a nice ball into the feet Shatov. Here

comes Smolnikov. He does get there. I did not think he was going to win

that race. He is lightning, that boy, he is their main get out, isn't

he? And we know that Weiss is no slouch either, is he?

It is noticeable perhaps that Duda as the main striker just drops back.

He is naturally a midfielder. He is making the numbers up. It is useful,

very useful. Smolnikov aims to pull it back to Dzyuba. He actually takes

it away from Corcoran. He almost found his way through anyway. As a

strikingly cannot leave those. You are thinking, goal. He tries to

steer it to the far post. He did pretty well. He did, considering

there was no real pace on it. Lots of elevation, really. There is

Dzyuba again. That was a nice touch which was intercepted by Skrtel. I

want to see the stats on the Russian right back and how much he has run.

There are a few was again to close. -- there he was again. He almost has

Weiss playing as a left back. Going after first Berezutski then

Akinfeev. Just a little nudge was seen. Free kick to Russia.

Russia are having much more of the ball and moving it around. They have

come into it, haven't they? There is Mak. Durica, didn't want to

risk playing Skrtel into trouble. Yes, not a bad idea. Hamsik had to

adjust to try to find Mak. Pekarik. That was nicely slid into Hamsik.

Now Weiss. That was nice control from Weiss,

just did not quite find the space to pick out Hamsik with the past. Good

covering by Roman Neustadter. Golovin has overrun it. The flag

goes out. Robert Mak was offside. I get the feeling that he went really,

really early. He didn't need to. Just look across the line. Oh yes,

just slightly. Three yards. The thing is, you can see the last man,

he has him right in front of him, so just wait, wait, wait. Bury Square

as well, Russia. If you have just join us, I would like to reiterate

that the game is played under a closed roof because of some nasty

weather that is around the Lille area. It is not the middle of the

night here. -- very square. It can't be the middle of the night, there

are no sirens! It was accompanied by a bit of singing coming through the

hotel window and then sirens but it was relatively calm in the centre of

Lille. Let's hope it continues tonight. Very heavy police presence

on every corner. That will be a goal kick. ... In previous competitions,

they'd have given a free for this. This is down to Pierluigi Collina,

is it not? He coaches the referees. Wise to the fact that Kokorin was

already falling. The action of Hubocan was pretty

incidental. Helped on. Hamsik. Looking the other way as he tries to

play through. He saw that, didn't he? Some players do, when you have

such an outstanding player in your team... He looks as though he needs

a doctor. He is rocking again. Seriously. The youngest coach in the

competition. He may be the youngest coach but he has the highest blood

pressure! Liam Hood at the 45 years old. -- Leonid Slutsky. Dzyuba.

Shooting chance now. It is only just wide from Smolov. Dzyuba has done

brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. The central defence just completely

opens up here. I thought he just had a touch too many. That was close. He

did not really catch its weekly. Just brushes the outside of the post

past the outstretched arm of collar -- Kozacik.

Duda. That is another soft one. Russia are complaining about that

but it will be a Slovakia free kick. A few signs now that the game is

about to get interesting. Golovkin was holding on. Yes, no contact, no

foul. Nervous anticipation writ large on

Slovakian faces. The flag was up so it would not have counted anyway.

Durica went for it. Skrtel was also in there. These really are two big

physical sides, aren't they? Which is why I think we're not a

particularly good game. -- we are not getting a particularly good

game. The referee was not interested in that. No. Smolov and Shatov, two

players out there who are not necessarily big and physical. He is

having a word with Mr Skrtel, I think. That should and could be a

duel too enjoy, or to grimace watching. That's a lovely touch.

From Shatov. He is find and away to the right. Corcoran finds him.

Dzyuba lets it go. Corcoran was not arriving quite in time. -- Kokorin.

He is unlucky actually Dzyuba. They got men forward very quickly,

Russia, great run on the right as well. He knows he is there. Yeah, I

know, he was almost a step ahead. That was the problem.

Getting better as a game to watch. We know that, because we have not

had any shots of manager for the last five minutes! That was always

going to be Kozacik's. The right back is attack-minder. It should be

right-winger - occasionally goes back.

Pekarik has to go back into his own half to Skrtel. Aided by a slip from

Dzyuba. Hamsik - what a ball. A lovely couple of touches and a

fine finish too! Slovakia take the lead. Thanks to a brilliant ball and

a nice bit of work at the end too. It is a brilliant ball and it is a

nice bit of work. What did you say about the Russian right back?

Attack-minded? When you see the replay, see what he does. No wonder

they make him go forward. A great goal. Well made and well taken. But

defensively - oops! It is pass of the match. Yeah. Great ball, he is

already the wrong side, the right back. Watch where he goes here.

Where is he going? It is like you know Weiss is going to come inside.

Look at the right back go past him. OK cut inside, shoot and score. He

didn't have to say see you later - they had already gone. Then the goal

was gaping for Vladimir Weiss. The young man who started out at

Manchester City and went on to play for Bolton and Rangers and is now

based in Qatar has made it Russia 0, Slovakia 1.

Against England Russia didn't have a shot on target after the 17th minute

until you know when. The 92nd minute. I think England frightened

them though. Not enough though. Really interesting, he just thought,

I have made a blooper, cost us a goal, I'd better sit in a bit and he

decided not go and gave the ball away. 1-0 Slovakia and can't you

tell! Highlights of this game and Romania Switzerland tonight on BBC1

at 10.50. Of course tomorrow it is England versus Wales. Coverage

Yours, mine - leave it! A very happy Jan Kozak. Played for Czechoslavakia

before the disillusion of that country. He was in the world Cup in

1982. He has already Head history, the -- he has already made history

as the first coach to get his country qualified for the European

Championship. A long way to go, but they could fancy their chances of

qualifying further. I keep saying tonight. It is this afternoon. It is

the roof closed that is doing it. They just need to get through to

half-time, Slovakia, without doing anything stupid. Neustadter sold

Berezutski short. A hospital pass. He was not impressed. Duda wasn't

impressed with the way he went in. Although he was entitled to do so.

Pekarik was offside. A lovely move as well. Just tried to get back on.

Normal service is resumed, Smolnikov is in the right-wing. Shatov cutting

in. Just slipped. Well done ref. Great position and just waved him

away and, get up! Too much on that for Mak. He has provided one of

moments of match. There is the goal scorer, but it was all from this

pass from Hamsik. Great vision. Look, how do you score from there?

Both of them went didn't they? Where are they going? When he first got

the ball, I was going to say he is going to need a bit of help - he got

it from the Russians! Exactly. Never mind keeping it as it is until

half-time, Slovakia may fancy their chances of extending their lead.

Pekarik has done well. A different sort of attacking right back. What?

One that can defend? I always find they're the best kind. The clue is

in the world, isn't it? Ignashevich doesn't play too many

different kind of passes. No, it is safety first. Now the move breaks

down, or it slows at the very least. That one will be a free kick for

Russia. Kucka in a bit too heavily. No need nor that. Dzyuba is doing a

useful job for Russia up there alone. He has won the free kick now.

Shatov to take the free kick. It was pretty poor. How about now? How

about no? On that free kick, you know about

missing the first man, the centre-backs go mad. They come all

the way up and it is what a waste of time that is. Golovin goes again.

The ball over the shoulder was a tough one for him. You're going to

see this goal 17 times, you realise, don't you? Doesn't get any better

for Smolnikov. Don't suppose Jan Kozak minds how many times he sees

it. Hamsik glides across the ground. It

was the perfect position for him to receive the ball. He turns, great

first touch, runs at people, commits people, loads of confidence, just

skips by that challenge. Just the end product wasn't great. But that

is his business. It is a wild shot, but he does look a level above most

of the other players there. All of them. Not just. All of them!

?" That was unexpected. He was like, why has the ball come for me. There

was speculation in the Russian press and in the French media today that

he wouldn't play today. That Glushakov would come in. Neustadter

does play centre-back for his club side Schalke in Germany. You can see

why. Miscommunication between Golovin and

Shatov. The cross is a good one and the nod

down is handy for Weiss. The ball from Hamsik was just brilliant. I

think the Russians thought he was going to curl it in right-footed and

he just picked somebody out. He saw Cooke Ca coming. Hamsik! Just

brilliant. Just brilliant from the best player on the field. It is two

for Slovakia before half-time. Virtually from the same position on

the pitch. As good as the first goal was for Slovak yashgs this is

absolutely top drawer. Hamsik of Napoli in Italy. He has shown his

class right from the moment the game started and this is magic. Just got

it, shifted it. And shot. It is just such a sweet strike. Sweet, sweet,

sweet! Goalkeeper knows what he is doing in terms of coming inside and

hitting it. Absolutely no chance! You would say little chance for

Russia, based on the evidence of what we have witnessed in this first

half. I think we have got two centre-backs in the studio, but I

know what they will be saying, which is you know they're always going to

cut inside. Offer them down the line.

The two goals are so similar, are they not? That will do it for the

first half. Slovakia's half in Lille. Marek Hamsik's half. He made

the first four Vladimir Weiss with a sumptuous pass and he scores the

second having been left alone to do his own work. What fine work as

well. No matter how hard they work it will be difficult to Russia to

get back into this. They have double the deficit to make up than they

managed against England. STUDIO: It took a while but there was cracking

goals in the end from Slovakia. Jermaine Jenas, you said draw,

Martin has forgotten already! You said Slovakia. What an end to the

first half, Slovakia were impressive at times? You look at bullock of

quality from Russia, changing emphasis, they want to get forward

but they lack the cutting-edge. Slovakia are quite brilliant in

their finishing and that's the difference. It is like having a

creativity tap. Russia wanted to defend against England, and got a

last-minute goal but they don't seem capable of getting back from 2-0. It

is over. Vincent, you said you wear with Vladimir Weiss at Manchester

City and he was potentially the next big thing. There was some bad stuff

but also really good quality. Look at his run there, he will always do

that, get in the right position. Now, he cuts inside and that's the

right decision and his shot, the quality is unbelievable but the

defending, Martin said a lot about it. He is a pure talent. I don't

know why he was in Qatar. When you are able to do this, it's a shame.

It's about making the right decisions and he doesn't do often

enough. In a one-on-one situation it was almost too easy. The full-back

was out of position and the central defender Berezutski had to buy a

ticket to get back in. You saw how good he was against England but that

was poor. Before the end of the half we had Weiss for Hamsik. He said it

this, we did point out before the game that Slovakia's chances at this

euros depend on the main man, Hamsik, and that is no lie, this is

what happens when he has a good day. Phenomenal pass, phenomenal finish,

thank you very much. It is nice when the best players turn up. When they

produce we are pleased to see it and that was great quality. Great

entertainment. You want to see the stars. When Russia took on England

they only had two shots on target and they were from the centre

halves, we have seen a bit more from them today but lacking cutting-edge?

That is exactly it, I thought they were the favourites at one point,

they had had the most shops. In these areas they did not seem to

have any calmness. The number ten normally has the quality and

awareness. They know that players are around them. This ball is played

to the wing. Smolnikov has been one of their most creative fullbacks

from the defensive point of view. He has been pretty poor. There is

almost an overload, just pick the right pass and you are in. They

haven't got that way to pass, that timing that they have needed to

capitalise in pivotal moments. It is very industrial, everything they do

is hard work. Whereas we were mentioning simple passes and simple

runs, they look like they could be a threat. Everything is industrial.

When you practice this on the training pitch, we were working with

Arsene Wenger and everything was done in a controlled manner, this is

a bit desperate and then the ball is too heavy and there is no finish.

This is what they need to do, just play simply? Get it wide and then at

least they will give themselves an opportunity. When they try to play

in between the lines to much they don't have that creativity. He had

many of their chances, Smolnikov. He is playing on the left wing in this

game to accommodate Dzyuba. What do Russia need to do in the second-half

I would put Kokorin next to the big man. You need runners now. If they

are going to play simple straight balls into the big man you need

runners off him. They have a rapid full-back, just put pearls in the

right areas and they will create chances. Slovakia has not been a

massive defensive team. -- just put balls in the right areas. With the

talent of Slovakia it will be difficult for them to get back into

it. I only said it because he said Slovakia. We have got it on tape.

This time tomorrow we will be halfway through England against

Wales. This will be the first meeting between two home nations at

a major tournament for 20 years. A 2-1 win over Slovakia, 30,000 Welsh

fans in bed in Bordeaux. Loving it. An entire nation back home ecstatic.

If you are in northern France, all is calm. We got the result we wanted

in the first game. We will move very quickly onto the second. We will be

on a high going into this game and we are confident bunch. We're not

going to fear anybody. England next, the pressure will be on them not us.

We will have to approach the game slightly differently but it doesn't

change our approach, our focus will definitely be on what we can do and

how we can affect them. I think if we implement our game plan again, we

will hopefully come out with a positive result. The players in

Dinard remarkably focused ahead of the biggest match of their lives and

they are quietly confident. Things are not so smooth in the England

camp, from LA shinty deflation, the late Russian equaliser, and the mood

was not helped with the warning that was so strong, bringing and manager

to manager to appeal to the travelling fans. As England manager

I'm obviously very concerned about the threat hanging over us and the

sanctions that could possibly be imposed. Please, if you don't have a

will win. Everybody wants the English scalp but I don't think that

is just us, more or less any other country. We feed off that and it

makes us more hungry to do well. No special treatment from Rory's

players for Wales, just another country trying to take an England

scalp. At TPM tomorrow, the noise, atmosphere and nerves may say

different. -- at 2pm. We will be looking forward to that and we have

been for six months. Raheem Sterling had a bit of criticism for how he

played in the first game, you play with him week in week out, how do

England get the best from him, so much talent? Pure talent. I would

say, whether the criticism is fair or not, in the first 20 minutes when

he just runs past people and he doesn't think too much, he is an

incredible weapon, almost, to have on your side. You can go around

every squad and you won't find Raheem Sterling in any other team.

If he can bring what I've seen in the first 20 minutes in the first

game, then you know, you will always have him on the pitch. Wales are in

such a good position in the group after the opening win against

Slovakia. You were a man marker and people used to call you the rash

because you were all over everybody! Do have a specific plan for someone

might Bale? To man mark him or do they manage the game? Rory might

have done. Looking at the Portugal game, we might have seen something,

but no one is quicker than this fella. As egg that leap or hits it

harder. -- has a better lead. You have to be a remarkable player to

sit on him the whole time. Because he fluctuates he was all over the

place. It can seriously disrupt the preparation of the team. It is about

awareness, Eric Dier will have two combat him. He was an outstanding

talent. If England stops him, he has had 56 shots in qualification, he is

outstanding. What position do Wales find themselves in? Three points

from the first game and everyone was talking about this beforehand, Wales

were saying that it's not all about England, can they feel they are in a

safe position at the moment? Obviously yes after getting the

first win but they have got the advantage in terms of the tactical

game, they can go into this game with a real counterattacking style

and they can sit back because England have to come, they need to

win. From a Welsh perspective they will be asking more fun Gareth Bale,

more from Aaron Ramsey, on their day their top players were Ben Davies,

Williams was fantastic and Joe Allen. If those three perform, their

real stars perform and they will give England problems. If they play

three at the back against England, they could end up as a five and I'm

not sure that they can get the necessary bodies forward for Bale

Aaron Ramsey to do their stuff, they could be penned in for long periods.

trying to soak it in and enjoy it. There are even more physical

opponents so we know what we are up against. The good thing about

football is that you always get a chance to put things right in the

next game. Every game as a cup final now because we need to win. Without

his path and thumps it with great confidence and technique. Again on

the half term, looking round, little pass out wide. This is where Weiss

could do better, he is looking to get it back to him but he makes the

wrong decision, it is an easy pass. That would be the icing on the cake.

Look at this pass, it's his so-called wrong foot, his left foot,

and that's a fantastic finish. Hamsik is the conductor of this team

and everything goes through him. Takes a shot, could have made a

pass. But when you have such confidence, just keep shooting. A

beautiful finish. What is the phrase for Belgian, top bin? Top bin. Bin

Kalak! It shows what happens if you take your chances. Yes and they well

be looking to hold on to the lead. Back to the stadium and Guy Mowbray.

We have two Russian changes. Well they need two goals. Neustadter and

Golovin have been replaced. Glushakov and Mamaev come on as

substitutes. Slovakia start the second half 2-0 ahead through Hamsik

and Weiss. Straight into the action is Jan Durica. He earns the first

yellow card. Look, that is horrible. I think he knew what he was doing as

he swept through with that right leg. Scissors. That is six on a

yellow card for Slovakia in the tournament as a whole. We have got

to see a lot more from Leonid Slutsky's side going forward now. He

does strike me as the type of manager who would have gone berserk

at half-time. I would be disappointed if he didn't. He has

been called the Russian Mourinho in some reports in the past. I am sure

he would have a plan. Smolnikov went again from right

back. It has not stopped him going forward.

I'm a little surprised that when both full-backs go forward at the

same time, one of the midfield players just doesn't drop in and

almost make it a three with the two centre-backs, which a lot of teams

do. Hamsik with another easy ball. Made

it look that way any way. Can't beat one-touch can you? If you

can play that. There is just an air of confidence

and control about Slovakia that is just not evident in the Russian

players. They're playing in triangles and doing its well. A

great burst of pace from Mak to win a corner. It is amazing when you're

winning the game becomes so easy. Even wants the ball. Even's prepared

to run off the ball. Can Slovakia make it three and

relax? They found a way to put an effort towards goal. Too much on it.

A good run. A good ball in. Too good a contact. Easily got in front of

Kokorin. I don't think I have ever seen a

team take the two central defenders off at half-time. The two midfield

players. The two midfielders, sorry. There was speculation that

Neustadter wouldn't start again. Glushakov is the same change that

was made against England. I have to do this one. But you might have

heard it at the weekend, it is the best fact of the tournament, his

kreerp career as a goalkeeper was ended at the age of 19 by a knee

injury. He was injured falling out of a tree trying to save a

neighbour's cat! If you can't play, you coach. He has been the boss of

CSKA Moscow since 2009 and he has a choice to make, stay with CSKA. Well

he might have a choice to make. Well, they're missing some of the

best players. There is a couple of players missing. Denisov.

Goal kick for Slovakia. Happy Slovakians every where slam where.

You may well remember from the World Cup in South Africa 2010, the

greatest day in their history was when they beat Italy 3-2 to seal a

place in the last 16. Do you know what? I don't know

whether he tackles. Is he almost off the pitch? He is. He didn't really

hurt himself. Skrtel didn't really get to the ball. No. I am sure you

will have seen Premier League fixtures announced today. Martin

Skrtel is still with Liverpool. He will be facing Arsenal on day one.

Aren't the first three away games in London. Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea?

Good work from Smolov. At least the two defenders were closer to Weiss

in terms of trying to stop. Nudged off it by Glushakov. Well

done by Duda. Just waste some time. Get everybody out of your half.

Stick the ball towards the corner and play towards there. It doesn't

seem to be at the moment any great improvement from Russia, does there?

Can there be a Russian break? Look at Smolnikov go! Just slightly

behind him. Here is Robert Mak! And Akinfeev has

to touch it twice over the bar. It was a Russian attack and then two or

three passes and Slovakia have a shot on goal. Russia just lack that

creativity. Weiss just a little too much pace on the pass there for

Robert Mak. Mak did well. He stayed onside. He had loads of room.

By and large it is a very good point made by Vincent Kompany at

half-time, he is playing in his football in Qatar, which seems a

waste. His bank balance won't be though. I'm sure he is pretty

content with life. Shatov helps it on to Kokorin. Why would you go down

like that? You're 2-0 down in the game. What are you doing that for? A

tired looking Kokorin. Something on for Russia here. Equal

numbers. It is blazed and it was a waste as far as Shatov is concerned

is, he had options either side of him. Yeah, it was a four against

four situation when they first broke. You could see from the

caption, four against four. The right back was getting up as well to

make it five at one stage. Just the wrong option. The feeling in

Slovakia before the tournament is that the last 16 is a realistic aim.

A few concerns about the strength in-depth of the squad all over. I

saw them in a Dublin and on the night they looked very ordinary.

Hamsik didn't want to get injured, which is fair enough before a major

tournament. There is a bit of know how there and quite a lot of fight.

Yes definitely. Durica put it in. Against Wales, for

20 minutes Slovakia looked like the team more likely to win the game.

They won all of their first six qualifiers. They were shaky towards

the end, but the work had been done by then. That is given away to

Hubocan. He can only play one way, can't he? All or nothing.

so-called wrong foot, his left foot, and that's a fantastic finish.

That was kept in, it seemed like it was but the flag is up. Throw in

from Russia. Just prior to the last World Cup which they did not qualify

for, Slovakia have lost only three of 21 games. One of those of course

against Wales. At the weekend in Bordeaux.

At the moment, there is nothing in this game to suggest that Russia

will get back into it. You can not see the two substitutes making any

discernible difference yet. Perhaps a little busier than the member

replaced. -- than the men that they were placed. Ignashevich.

Hamsik. There is loads of room for him. That was outside again. Yes. Do

do did well, though. He knew exactly where Hamsik was. -- Duda.

Towards Dzyuba. The early call of Kozacik. Alerting them to his

presence. There was not a great deal that Dzyuba could do with that.

Blocked by cocoa. Russia's throw in. -- Kucka.

Flag waving for a free kick to the team in deep red, they are in deep

trouble at the moment. Lifted in by Shatov. Slovakia can't

get this away but it doesn't matter now because the whistle has gone for

a high boot. They have a free kick. A little bit fortunate, they are the

ball bounce in their, which everybody knows, you can't afford

to. A little bit of a mix-up that, wasn't there? You are allowed to try

to get that, aren't you? The defender's foot was quite high. That

was just a block. He wasn't moving his head towards anybody. Dangerous

play? That is debatable. The shape is good from Slovakia.

Very good. Just sat in that, closing the gaps. Performance good,

confidence high. -- sat in there. That is Berezutski. Good ball into

the feet of Dzyuba. It needed to be steered to safety by Pekarik. Yes,

good defensive cover, but much better from Russia, this ball in is

the key from Berezutski. The substitute Pato Mamaev has gone

across to take the corner. Can't afford any slack set pieces now. --

Pato threatening to take two defenders

with him. The ball back into the middle and Kozacik can put it behind

for another one. At least Russia are getting numbers in the opposition

penalty area. There were six in for that corner. Kozacik was able to

catch that. Just too close to the goalkeeper who ten years ago had a

brief trial with Leeds United. He has got something to do here as

well. Think yourself lucky, they have had 49 managers since then.

Vladimir Weiss, whose dad used to be the manager of the Slovakian

national team. Well, Slovakia are asking the

question of Russia which is, what can you do? 2-0 Dan, what have you

got? -- 2-0 down. Dzyuba has got his arm in the air. With the lack of

service he has had so far he may as well be waiting for a taxi.

Berezutski to Glushakov. This is more promising from Russia. Kokorin.

It was blocked and deflected. Just kept in by Kozacik to prevent the

corner. Sliding in a little ball. As Slovakia prepare a substitute. They

have taken off the two central midfield players and they have two

scorer goal at least to get back into it and they only have one

change to make in terms of positive, as in a striker an attacking

midfielder. That is the problem, strikers are thin on the ground for

Russia. Other than Dzyuba they don't really have an orthodox centre

forward striker in the squad. They are in the do-do then. That was a

better ball into the box. Smolov hit it. Follow-up by Glushakov. Well

wide. I wonder whether that was the game in that moment. That particular

opportunity. Good play by Russia this time. There. That was the game,

I feel. Really good block, isn't it? In saying that, the goalkeeper is

probably going to save it. Ondrej Duda is off. He is really an attack

minded midfielder. He is going to make way for a more orthodox

striker. Adam Nemec. Most recently, or rather, he is in the Dutch

league. He was at New York City FC in the MLS last year but he did not

manage to scorer goal for them. Chasing after Berezutski now. That

gives them a Dzyuba like presence at the top end. Yes, and fresh legs,

obviously. As they pressure forward, Russia. Nicely kept in by Smolnikov.

This is a test of Kozacik. Skrtel was making sure that it was really

difficult for Dzyuba. He blocks him off. Now Hamsik. This is trouble for

Russia. Two very important blocks. Shatov had to be quick.

That was well picked off there, although the referee has given a

free kick against Hubocan. Mamaev tried to find Dzyuba once

more. Just waited patiently in possession

until the ball just appeared in front of him. They did well,

Slovakia. Not forcing the issue, just keep the ball. Weiss. When I

say they will keep the ball... Through to Kokorin. Such a talented

player but a really quiet performance again from him. He

brings Smolnikov in. Fired across by Schennikov. Dzyuba

had to move away from him. That is too easy from the Russians'

point of view. That is going to go back to Kozacik

here, eventually. Yes, the two midfield substitutions just haven't

given them any urgency at all, original. Mamaev. They have seen a

lot more of the ball. Yes, but that is because Slovakia have let them

have it. They are 2-0 up. What are they going to do with it? Russia

have defined away, twice. -- have to find a way. Kokorin. He did not have

the time that he wanted. Weiss. Nemec tried a quick return. That is

going to go behind. You can see what he's trying to do. Just ahead of the

next Slovakian substitution, a reminder you can see highlights of

Romania versus Switzerland. Kick-off is at 2pm tomorrow between England

and Wales, don't miss it. This is the goal that made it 1-0 to

Slovakia, the man who scored it, Vladimir Weiss, has gone off. Dusan

Svento has come on. Presumably that is like-for-like. Svento is a left

back come winger. A bit more defensive. He has a bit more to deal

with, Smolnikov. Svento plays in Germany with Cologne.

Here is Kokorin. You feel with the Russian players who get on the ball

and have a little luck, there is really nothing on most of the time.

-- have a little look. Berezutski. Kozacik gathers it. The sounds from

just behind that goal, chiefly, that is the mains love ackee and ends

today. They were not good sounds for lay in its Luhansk if. The noise of

the Slovakian fans sound celebratory. They would be going

early, of course. -- Leone at They have seen nothing to worry them

about their hopes of holding on. They may even get one or two more

goals. No team has yet taken a real

pummelling. It could happen to Russia if they leave gaps like that.

They're not sitting totally comfortably yet. They're certainly

not. Free kick for Russia. Smolov tried

to take the bull by the horns himself. Blocked off by Pecovsky.

Third and final Russian substitution is happening and Kokorin is going

touf to make way for the smiling Roman Shirokov. He has seen plenty

in the game. He is one of the most experienced in the squad. What can

the soon to be 35-year-old do for his country now?

The first thing Shirokov has tried to do is get on the shoulder of

Dzyuba. Yes, they have stuck him up front.

A lot of passes going nowhere at the moment for the Russians.

Mamaev has to put it out. Couldn't even keep the ball, could they? Not

a lot he can do now, having made all three changes. Just that slightly

surprising one at half-time. All right if you want to change two

midfielders, but put on an attacking midfielder. They're very alike the

two he brought on. Were you surprised he didn't make any changes

to the starting line up? Yes, I was. Given the age relatively of the

squad as well and England gave them a bit of a chasing in terms of

making them work very hard. This is nice and easy for Slovakia

now. Smolnikov was on the move, but even he isn't that quick. Keeps go

though, doesn't he? The socks have gone down a bit and he is not in

such a hurry to go back. The socks might have been down in the first

half. A great player in a 3-5-2. It is to me to you now! Although

those two are far from being The Chuckle Brothers. They won't be if

they lose 2-0. Berezutski is lucky there. Can

Russia get lucky? A strike from Mamaev right across the ball. They

went up a little bit, but to get back in the game you have got at

least to make the goalkeeper make a save. Just hit across it. Here comes

the third Slovakia change. It is another striker coming on. Robert

Mak has worked hard. He has been impressive. If he was coming on you

could say return of the Mak, couldn't you?

Duris is on. There are o' echos of the game with England, Russia

haven't had a shot on target since 23rd minute. The next one against

England was in the 92 #7bd. Well they need one. They might be one

here. There is. Russia could have a way back. Glushakov has headed them

hope. It is actually a really well worked goal. Big call. Slovakia have

just made a substitution. It is another striker. They have now got

two strikers on and they have just conceded. Really good play. Lovely

ball in, cutback. Good header. Shatov makes it and glush cover

Glushakov has got Russia back in and now it is panic stations at the back

for Slovakia. Very disappointingly, a flare has

gone off in the Russian end. How on earth do they get it into the

stadium? A chance and not sure the keeper. Shirokov went up with him

and now Slovakia are far from sure. I thought the keeper looked a bit

jittery, but did well in the end, because he committed himself. Great

cutback. Good finish. Not sure what he has given. All right. It was a

fine header from Glushakov. That could change the whole complex of

what we are about to see. Slovakia from being solid are mightily

shaking. They have gone to pieces. He has played all his cards, Jan

Kozak. The strikers are on to hold the ball up and see out the game.

They just can't get the ball. They were right to look nervous at 2-0.

Now he has got strikers who need to be defenders. How quickly these

games can turn. A Russia corner. Berezutski was all on his own. He

went for it. Kozacik always the favourite.

They're sat deep Slovakia. And a problem here for Russia. The ball is

out and Shatov, has he pulled his groin? It would appear so. No

substitutions left. How's your luck? He hasn't had a lot in the build up.

I think it is just a touch of cramp. Good look for the physio then. He is

going to have to carry on as best as he can. It doesn't look good for

Oleg Shatov. You might see a bit of mist and smoke. That is as a result

of that flare that went off after the Russian goal. Of course the roof

is on, so it can't dissipate as quickly.

He is moving now Shatov! He is all right now. I think that is the first

time Pecovsky has given the ball away like that in his own half.

Smolov gets way from the half challenge and then let the ball get

away from him. Slovakia are sitting back. Isn't it amazing how it can

turn. Now Russia are finding their passes. Through towards Mo love. It

was -- towards Smolov. It was desperation stuff. Because Slovakia

have everyone back, they can't get out of their own half. Total

difference in the demeanor of the men in charge and the drummers.

Skrtel has to put it behind. Slovakia are now holding on. Just

over five minutes to go. Slam it in the middle of six yard box. Don't

foul. Kozacik went for it and was getting

nowhere near it. Durica with the header I think. As it has been most

times. That is Glushakov, but he can't get

a second. He had a look. The first touch was good. A good little flick

as well. The first touch. It went the opposite way.

Only three and a half minutes of the 90 to go. Slovakia at the moment

look to be sure of this they will have to score again. But they have

lost the ball again. Dzyuba draws a free kick. The Slovakia giving the

ball away. Worry ford Skrtel, because the -- worried for Skrtel,

he was going for his pocket. But he was tucking in his shirt. Was he not

look for his paint spray? I think he was looking for that too.

They will take as much time as they dare with the throw.

This will suit them nicely. Keep it down in the corner for as long as

they can. Jan Kozak is starting to pace around a bit now. No free kick.

Dzyuba! Good work from Dzyuba. Good defending from Slovakia in the end.

Hamsik has lost it, but it won't store for Berezutski. Cramp there as

well. He just stood up long enough to block the shot. The body, the lot

was going in front of the ball. That's what it means for the

Russians in the crowd today. They need another goal. Slovakia need to

hear the full-time whistle ASAP. We said it of Dzyuba in the first half.

He sees things. His touch is decent. That will be a free kick. Nemec was

too keen. It is injury time and it is pretty much launch time for

Russia. Three minutes to go. That's what Ignashevich does. Out comes

Kozacik. He backs himself. Straightaway, nothing wrong. You

could see that he was going to come for this. He knew that he was coming

for it. Martin Skrtel was pleased about that.

Even now he goes backwards and not sideways. That is not allowed. He

has to go forward now. He will. Ignashevich has a look. There is on

his way. That is why forward passes don't happen to often. Yes. He has

said, you should have been on the end of it. It is attended to have

wave of the Slovakian flag at the moment. In a minute and a half it

may be more celebratory. Schennikov with the throw. Nobody

seems to want it. What can you do? Mamaev almost reluctantly went back

towards it. Ignashevich. This will be interesting. Backwards. Akinfeev

will get it as far down as he can. Into the third minute of injury

time. Free kick for Russia. Skrtel! Why?! This is the moment.

Shot or cross? It's a long, long way from Kozacik's goal. But he has to

be ready for every eventuality here. Try to take the wall out? It's going

to be Ignashevich. It is deflected behind for a Russia corner. Can they

face this Slovakia team and from what I saw in the first half I was

happy with how they played. In the second half I would be worried for

them. England of course have do play Wales before that but Slovakia did

to Russia what England couldn't do, and it was all down to the quality

of finishing and we did not have that with Harry Kane and Sterling.

It will be interesting to what they say when they turn up in Lens? They

have been more punchy in their press conferences and interviews and they

are really playing to the role of the underdog and Roy Hodgson said

yesterday to me that we can't adopt that role, we are never going to be

the underdog, we have to be the team that people want to take the scalp

from and they kept saying this. You feel there has been a concerted

effort to not be drawn into those games of war and hyperbole and

rhetoric. England are playing that game and Wales are enjoying the

whole thing of being on this stage and having the three points and the

win which makes them relaxed and obviously going into this ready to
