Hello, welcome to Brazil, we have extended highlights of England's

crucial second group game, against Uruguay.

Alan Shearer is here with us, doing his best to put his poker face on.

Lots of people don't know the result as they prepare to go to school. We

will have the other games, Colombia against the Ivory Coast, Japan

against Greece. Here is the game, England against Uruguay, your

commentary team, Guy Mowbray and Philip Neville.

From Manaus to the concrete jungle that is Sao Paulo. England were

disappointed to lose to Italy, now to a second match which always

looked like the key to progression. Uruguay have many more reasons to be

upset about their capitulation to Costa Rica. Oscar Tabarez has

stressed he never starts tournaments well, the country is without a win

in six opening games. Time to put the beginnings behind them, to

respond to the threat of an early flight home. One name dominates the

Uruguay team news, Luis Suarez deemed fit to return and start just

four weeks after surgery to his left knee. One of four changes to the

side humbled by Costa Rica. Skins are layers, Pereira, Lodeiro also

come in. -- Gonzales. England feel the same team, with Sterling on the

right, Wellbeck on the left, and Rooney in the middle.

Gerrard, powering his way through. We didn't see much of that from the

England captain in Game one, bursting forward. Very difficult for

him to do that, out number did midfield against Italy. We want to

see and surging forward, that is what he does well. Johnson does that

well, Sterling will beat one, not the second tackle. Here is Suarez,

copying it to bits from the England fans. Came off Cahill. -- who is

getting it a bit from the England fans. Luis Suarez likes to drift

into the wide areas. Difficult when you are one-on-one. Suarez takes the

corner. Hart has to get down sharply, looked as if that may have

been creeping in. That was going in, caught by surprise, don't think you

So many Liverpool players in the England team, Suarez is perfectly

placed to judge them. Here is Sturridge, trying to dink it through

to Rooney. Blocked by hand, yellow card for Diego Godin. If that Paul

had gone through, Rooney was through on goal. A correct call, write to

book him. Wayne Rooney still seeking his first goal at a World Cup. To

strike it. Just wide. Nothing Fernando Muslera could have done

about it. Did not look far-away. I was out of my seat, I thought that

was in. Wonderful technique from Wayne Rooney. That is hours of

practice on the training ground to perfect that skill. Henderson, not

close enough to Danny Welbeck. He will have to go into retrieval mode,

chasing Cavani. Gonzales, Jagielka, did not get a

clean contact. That is clean. Whistling over Joe Hart's crossbar

from Cristian Rodriguez. Goodness me, he got a hold of that. A mistake

from Phil Jagielka, dangling the leg. Wonderful strike from Cristian

Rodriguez, could not keep that down. Hart was not getting anywhere near

it. Cavani. Away from Wellbeck.

Gonzales. Beating Leighton Baines with a cross. Gerrard way. England

struggling to get it away. Nicely collected by Lodeiro. Cahill had to

do that. Hart was coming, but Cavani may have got something across goal.

Wonderful reverse pass from Lodeiro, running off the back of Cahill. You

might be able to tell, Luis Suarez taking the corner. Something

different, catching England out. Cavani with a quite brilliant

effort, could not find the target. A wonderful run from Cavani, pure

instinct. I contact with Luis Suarez. -- eye contact. Johnson,

Sturridge, cleverly letting it run for Rooney. In England free kick,

clear obstruction. Godin again. He is lucky there, already on a

booking. There was an elbow into the face of Daniel Sturridge. Gerrard

with a free kick, really good delivery. Godin climbing highest to

head it away. Perhaps enter the -- emphasising how much Uruguay would

miss him. Gonzales over to confront pains. -- Leighton Baines. Sliding

in, Caceres, the free kicks are racking up. The referee needs to get

a grip, constant fouls, new letting the Uruguay players getting away

with it. Constant fouling needs to be punished. In from Gerrard, over

Muslera, over the bar. Wayne Rooney came in, coming so close. The keeper

was well beaten. Just a bit too high for Wayne Rooney. Trying to glance

it in. Getting up really well. He was hanging really well. He will be

disappointed he did not score. There is pressure building, England in a

good moment. That was too high to Wayne Rooney. Gonzalez. Gerrard has

been run through. Here is Cavani. Johnson backing away, Suarez on the

end of it! Luis Suarez gives you require the lead! -- gives Uruguay

the lead! Brilliant play, Cavani picked him out, he picked his spot,

he does not miss those. They got lucky in the middle of the field,

Lodeiro, the ball ricocheting off Steven Gerrard. That ball from

Cavani had goal written all over it. Luis Suarez has not been in the

game, he has not looked fit. Fantastic work between the pair of

them, the two biggest stars in the Uruguay side. They have combined

clinically. Never mind his need, the head is all right. -- his knee.

Lovely to see the reaction from Oscar Tabarez, a pensioner greeting

a goal by his side as the most exciting thing around. We were only

behind her about 90 seconds against Italy, will there be a quick riposte

a? Wellbeck, that looked like a trip, Rooney. Through the legs of

Caceres. Here is Sturridge, going for gold. Muslera would be expecting

to save that. A little nutmeg. A little slide pass down the side,

forcing the keeper to make a save. The half-time message from England

would have been the same as in Manaus, disappointed, but not

quick to get to the ball. Sturridge caught on his heels. The game

threatened to get stretched. Now Henderson is having to work hard to

win it. Could not do it. On goes Lodeiro, in goes Cavani. Missing his

chance. England collectively breathe a huge sigh of relief. 2-0 would

become so difficult. Just running inside Glen Johnson. Should he have

scored? The will be disappointed, a man of his calibre, one-on-one with

Joe Hart. That is the side of the pitch she likes to play on. England

need to find something again. Rooney, has to go a long way. Never

going to make it. Henderson, driving on for the return. Dealt with by

Caceres. We want to see more of that from Jordan Henderson, surging

forward. Leighton Baines. Across to Rooney. Brilliant save by Muslera.

Wellbeck does not give up on it. That was the best moment of the

match from England. A good cross, great composure from Wayne Rooney.

The save was just as good. Johnson. Gerrard. Cannot get it into

Sturridge. Sterling leaves Cavani on the floor. He beats the next man,

then going down. He will not get anything from it. Uruguay are not

happy with Sterling for hitting the deck. He has trodden on the foot of

Lodeiro. Is there an issue with Pereira? He gets Sterling's knee in

his face. It was accidental. He is saying to the doctor, I want to

continue. The doctor is having none of it. Pereira will not go quietly.

The doctor has been overruled, he's back on the field. I don't think we

deserved to be a goal down. The attacking flair and possession, we

deserved something from this game, have to keep the faith. Sturridge.

Godin, very tight to Daniel Sturridge, a free kick won by being

on strike. Johnson. Sturridge. Doing well to turn. Not a good shot. We

used this word against Italy, options. Lovely turn, so quick.

Rooney. England go one with Gerrard and Johnson. Anderson. Sturridge.

Nicely done. Johnson. Nicely done. Johnson's Ross, Rooney is there! --

Johnson's cross. Wayne Rooney's first ever World Cup final goal. The

Uruguay resistance has been broken down. Made by Sturridge and Johnson,

running in at just the right time was Wayne Rooney. It is his time.

Look at the relief on the face of Wayne Rooney, wonderful cross by

Glen Johnson. We deserved that goal, I think in them have deserved that.

We have been the better team so far. We have to go on and win this game,

it is there for us. Now Uruguay have to change their whole approach.

England will carry on as they have been doing. That closing down from

Adam Lallana. This is a hungry England side. This is brilliant from

England. The keeper has been Uruguay's best player to night. He

has kept them in this game. Jordan Henderson. Fernando Muslera out to

catch. He has had an outstanding game. Has caught everything. There

is no flag. Luis Suarez! Luis Suarez has thumped it in! One of the most

simple goals you will ever see. England lost concentration. Most

crucially of all, they lost Luis Suarez. All of the good work undone.

You cannot give him that sort of chance. It was a long kick upfield.

It looked offside for me. It just glanced off Stephen Gerard's heard.

Quite incredibly they have turned it around.

the game again? England have around 70 seconds. They need to get this

ball in the box as soon as per an hour, no time left. Rooney has his

cross deflected. It is an England corner and Joe Hart is going all the

way. This is it. All or nothing, England. Last chance, we need a good

delivery. Joe Hart went to attack it. Luis Suarez cannot leave it on

the Uruguay bench. Tins the draw he has probably had to take a lot of

stick in that Liverpool dressing room. That is it. Uruguay win in Sao

Paulo. Five Liverpool players in the England start up, but it was the

blue of Uruguay who made the impact. It just had to be Luis Suarez. Two

moments of real quality. England gave their all but one goal was not

enough. Now, every England supporter will be rooting for Italy to go on

and win all of their games in the group. Then hope and pray England

can beat Costa Rica by plenty in the last game. Bitterly disappointed.

Disappointed for everybody. We came here with such high hopes and we

have not been able to deliver. It is a major, major sadness for me.

Mathematically, there is a glimmer of hope. But of course, we are in a

very difficult position in the group. We are relying on other

people and it is exactly the position we did not want to find

ourselves in. It is here and we have to take responsibility. We played a

strong side defensively, they were very quick on the ball. Even in the

first half I thought we had a lot of the play. You cannot expect players

to come up with the same degree of brilliance every time. I thought

everybody tried very hard. The mood at the moment is, of course is very

low. It is hard to know what to say. It is a quiet and frustrated

dressing room. We have played two, technically good games. But it does

not matter about your technique if you do not win. We have lost two

games we should have won. TRANSLATION: it is something I have

dreamt about often. I had to keep calm, had to keep my cool. When I

got the ball I'd just kick it with my whole heart. Thinking of all

those who have supported me. It has made me very happy. He is deadly in

front of goal. He is clever and cute. He nearly scored two corners

and Boeing gets two chances to be clinical and takes them both. This

is a player who has not played for five weeks. It was his night

tonight. Alan Shearer, after the Italy game, England fans were

wanting to believe. But it looks like England are on their way home

from another World Cup? Very disappointing. We did not defend

well enough in both games. Particularly Uruguay. To give Luis

Suarez the opportunity we gave him, you would be disappointed if that

happened on a Sunday morning pitch, let alone an England international

with top players. The second reason is, we have not taken our chances.

We created 12 but did not take them. At the highest level, you have to

take your chances. What a lot of England fans will be saying is, two

obvious threats, ballot tally from Italy and Luis Suarez from Uruguay

and England failed to nullify those threats? These guys take their

chances and they have a killer instinct. Give them a chance and

they score. We gave them the opportunities. I did not think we

played as well as we did against Italy. There were certainly more

pluses in the Italian game than against Uruguay. Raheem Sterling did

not play as well as he did. Wayne Rooney got his first goal, which is

one of the plus points. The back four were disappointing. Set pieces

were sloppy, not concentrating. It has been a real disappointing

performance. We all knew Luis Suarez wasn't 100% fit. But we have found

out even if he isn't 100% fit, he is 100% deadly. If you give him

chances, two chances and two goals. The first one was clinical. He had

to put the direction on the head and get the pace on it because it was

behind him. The second one was amateurish defending by England, but

I loved the way he put his head down and he smashed that all as hard as

he could. Roy Hodgson has said he will not resign, but is it time for

a rethink in the direction England are taking? Or have there been

enough positives? I think he should be given the opportunity to take

England to the European Championships. We have two C the

likes of Luke Shaw, Raheem Sterling, Daniel Sturridge and Ross Barkley,

where they can take others. There are not too many changes people were

as had in this squad, but not too many people would have had Rooney on

the left-hand side in the first game. Apart from Ashley Cole, to use

his experience, there wasn't many people arguing with the squad he

had. Many wanted him to give youth a chance and he did. He went to try to

win the game against Italy. I think he should be given a chance to

finish what he has started. They said you have to bring youth

through, he is doing that. A statistician have calculated England

have a 9% chance of going through, is it a crumb of comfort? Don't hold

your breath. In group C, two games. Who ever go through from group D

will face the teams from group C. We start with Colombia who have

impressed a lot of people in this World Cup, taking on the Ivory

Coast. Qualification there for the taking if either side win today.

Colombia are unchanged. The captain wins his 100th cap today. The Ivory

Coast boss, is a Frenchman and made one change.

Didier Drogba but keeps his place on the bench. Isn't it good to see

English officials are making their bow in Brazil? 26 degrees today,

glorious sunshine. Beautiful climate. Senior fellow cute arrays

can hit it. The Ivory Coast are familiar to is now having qualified

for the last two. This is where the danger comes from. Give it a middle.

What a chance! What an opportunity he had so much time to think what he

was doing. Looks like he is a bit troubled. He looks like Alan

Pardew's older brother. Three in the middle now for the Ivory Coast. Not

a very good throw. Max Gradel wins it back. David Ospina saves. The

cross in the first lace was really good. Rodriguez has given it away to

yah yah Toure. Lovely ball. Wilfried Bony. Fabulous ball in from yah your

Toure. Brilliant vision. This is his first job, he was a TV pundit before

taking over Ivory Coast. After the keeper and off the face of the post.

Great play by Gil They have got a corner out of that.

Was a wonderful ball by Rodriguez. I thought he pulled the Ivory Coast

player back. Five in the box. It is into the roof of the net -- net.

Rodriguez. The golden boy scores the first goal in the game. That is what

you call a celebration. Just gets in front of his marker. It is a good

header. It came quickly and the goalkeeper got a hand to it that it

was almost the hind him when he got his hand to it. 1-0.

Rodriguez gets his foot in. On side. 2-0 Colombia. They don't need you to

give the ball away but that is what Ivory Coast did. Juan Quintero

scores his first international goal. Brilliant run by Gervinho.

Wonderful, individual goal. He went past three tackles at the very

least. Skipping past players. Fair play to go vino for staying on his

feet. Has silenced the many of the Colombian fans in this studio.

Quintero went for goal, not the worst idea. That was worth a shout.

They are ready to sprint on the pitch in the dugout, here they go.

Colombia have done it. Quintero with what proved to be the winner. James

Rodriguez with the first, Gervinho with the goal for the Ivory Coast.

Japan won five matches in a row coming into the finals, Greece have

one victory in five games in 2014. The temperature around 29 degrees,

the torrential rain has just stopped, bucketing down earlier on.

Shinji Kagawa is dropped after losing possession so often in the

first game. A couple of changes for Greece, the Fulham striker

Konstantinos Mitroglou comes in. We have seen that serve Japanese

supporters around Brazil, around 500,000 people of Japanese descent

live in the country. Just wide there. A wonderful effort, Osako,

wonderful effort. This is a good running to the Japanese area.

Blocked well. That is a foul. A yellow card for Katsouranis. Back to

ponder. -- Honda. During the file. He has his arms on him, tugging at

him. Honda fancies this one. He scored five in qualifying, the goal

that clinched qualification against Australia. The goalkeeper has only

palmed it out. A bit fortunate to come and get it. That is a good

effort, just clipping the wall, putting the keeper. We are seeing a

lot of goalkeepers struggling to hold onto balls. Good quality from

Honda, just not enough in the corner. There is a free kick, a

yellow card. Katsouranis, his second yellow of the game. This is

significant for Greece. Just lunging in, not the worst challenge I've

ever seen. He is late, if you are running yellow, real risk. -- you

are on a yellow. He mixed the midfield together with his passing,

and he is gone. -- and he knits. Samaras has gone for it straight

away from the kick-off. A cheeky effort from the Celtic striker, look

at this. Certainly worth an effort, the goalkeeper has his back to him.

There are three in the middle. They surprised everybody in Portugal in

2004 can they pull off a major here? This is their best bet, from a set

piece. Honda touch that one. Kone, another corner. On our table at the

restaurant, there were Greeks, Japanese, cheering on Croatia. The

goalkeeper had to make a great save. That came all the way through to

Gekas. He got up really well, but the keeper has great reflexes. Gago

Japanese player who has hammered it wide. They cannot clear their lines.

Your best chance there. And Japan finally get it? Brought down by

Torosidis. Jess trying to come inside. -- just. Endo fancied it. A

lovely effort, perfectly placed. It is all over. Greece, down to ten

men, with a player sent off, they simply shut up shop. You can hear

the booing. It is a point apiece. Group C has Colombia with six. Ivory

Coast with three. Japan and Greece are not out, but are teetering on

the brink. Very disappointing, a disappointing night all round.

We have enjoyed watching the South American sides at this World Cup,

Chile were very impressive, you can add Colombia to the list? They will

be dangerous opponents. James Rodriguez has stepped up, enjoying

the extra responsibility because Falcao is out. He's loving it, doing
