Switzerland make two changes, unsurprisingly it is the players he

place of Valentin Stocker. The three-man attacking midfield

certainly capable of causing the French some problems. The two

skippers, Inler of Switzerland, and Hugo Lloris of France. The referee

is Dutch, Bjorn Kuipers, he owns three supermarkets back at home, a

good man to know if you are running out of milk. Two Dutchmen alongside

him, and the referee's for the visual is from Norway. He was in

charge for the Spain against Netherlands game. France make three

changes, Paul Pogba is out, likewise Antoine Griezmann. Ollie Rayner --

Olivier Giroud comes in, so does Moussa Sissoko. Karim Benzema pushed

a little wider. A 4-3-3 but France. -- for France. Plenty of quality

midfield. Karim Benzema, two goals, might have had a hat-trick, eight

goals in his last seven internationals. All those not

playing are available from the bench. Paul Pogba picked up a yellow

card in the opening game, should he come on, will have to be careful of

his step. Ottmar Hitzfeld, the German born, Swiss coach, former

German international, he has won the Champions League with Borussia

Dortmund and Bayern Munich. Didier Deschamps, hoping to be only the

third man to win the World Cup as a player and manager, Franz

Beckenbauer and Mario Zagallo having done before him.

The French looked nervous. Certainly in the stands. How calm the players

on the pitch, and how the Swiss ahead of this game? -- how calm are

the Swiss. They have been at pains to insist that is it is -- that it

is the French you are favourite said. Straightaway Ricardo Rodriguez

is up there looking to create something. Here is Giroud, on four

Lichtsteiner. Mehmedi. Debuchy ? Hugo Lloris, winning his 59th cap,

the man from Spurs. One of seven who play or have played in the Premier

League. Here is Sakho. Behrami, out to Debuchy.

Joe Johan Djourou, Lichtsteiner likes to get up and help the

attacking intent of his side. Sakho. Back to Lloris, Captain, as

he has been the last few years now. The 250th World Cup game between

European sides here today. Lichtsteiner. Shaqiri, he has

Mehmedi wide left, bundled over by Debuchy. The Swiss want to take the

free kick quickly, but are rather wasteful with their efforts. They

had to come behind to beat Ecuador by 2-1. Never before winning their

opening two matches in the World Cup. The last time France won their

opening two matches, they went on to win the whole thing, back in 1998.

Benzema. There is progress being made, but the defensive cover was

good enough from Rodriguez. Debuchy getting all the way back to his

defensive position. The way by Benaglio. -- away. Seferovic, scored

the late goal to give his side the win in stoppage time. Debuchy,

earning his side a throw. The last three meetings between these sides

have ended in draws, with only two goals. The last one was in 2006, in

the World Cup, 0-0. They both progressed from the groups.

Switzerland losing out on penalties to Ukraine in the last 16. There is

a bit of history between these two. Cissokho. -- Sissoko, Debuchy. A

Swiss clearance, only so far as Cabaye, these are problematic

moments for the Swiss defence. Benzema, with space to work. Curling

it just wide. Encouraging start from France. He is a man full of

confidence, the man of the moment. Not picking out his range just yet.

Some were suggesting that Didier Deschamps was using this tournament

to blood a few extra youngsters ahead of the European Championships

that his country are hosting in a couple of years. I think their

intentions are a little higher, their aspirations are certainly

higher. Looking to make a mark on this tournament, never mind two

years time. That was a high boot from Giroud. He has caught von

Bergen on the nose, that would have stung, no doubt about that. Stephen

von Bergen, reaching the veteran stage of his career. The only Swiss

based player in the team. The man representing the Swiss domestic

league in a bit of trouble here. It will take some sorting out. A

very early stoppage, and an encouraging sign from Philip

Senderos' point of view. He retires at the end of this tournament,

Ottmar Hitzfeld. What a way to mark what has been a glittering career,

if he could do something special with this Swiss side. Von Bergen

clearly not healthy. Whether it is something they can sort out on the

touchline, or they have two make an immediate change? Looks like Philip

Senderos is coming on. -- or they have to. A disappointing end to the

game for Stephen von Bergen. Philip Senderos, these days of 11 --

Valencia. Winning his 55th cap. Several of its -- Seferovic, doing

well to win the ball. Benaglio. The Swiss defence has been to the

fore in the last few tournaments, only conceding a couple of goals in

their last eight World Cup matches. Valencia of Ecuador, and Gonzalez of

Chile the only two players to breach this defence in the last three

tournaments. It is more than this defence that this side's hopes are

built on. They have a strong element of creativity. Giroud. Going back to

Benagli O. Senderos, and neat little turn. -- Benagli O. He comes Matt --

Matuidi. Patrice Evra, divides opinion amongst French supporters

given his involvement four years ago. The challenge of Debuchy has

given the free kick away. Just to underlie the context of this

particular game, a win here would more or less put one of the other

sides into the knockout stages. Even a draw here between France and

Switzerland would not be disastrous. It would leave qualification very

much in their own hands when they play their final games in this group

against Honduras in Switzerland's case on the 25th of June, while

France play Ecuador at the same time, same day.

Couldn't quite keep it under control. He has had a busy start to

the game, Yohan Cabaye. Very nearly 13 minutes on the clock. We know

there will be a lot of stoppage time given the injury to Von Bergen.

Matuidi trying to create something with Giroud. Good intelligent

football from a classy French midfield. Suddenly the counterattack

is on. The Swiss have got pace. There were asking a little too much

of the support. Sakho of Liverpool. Inler blocking

the run of firmware now. -- then Brenna.

It is a slow tempo envelope -- on a hot day.

The wave going around as the fans tried to maintain the entertainment

levels on the stands in the absence of any clear action so far. A

sliding challenge from Djourou saves the day for Switzerland. Corner kick

to France. They have had the running so far. They have dominated

possession. Can they turn it into something a little better cure? The

header! It is in! The goalkeeper reached at it but Olivier Giroud has

just managed to squeeze it past and France have the early goal! Their

early form rather demanded it. Benaglio is beaten. Translate. --

France lead. Swung in here and Giroud picking up a place right at

the back. Finding a position to get a very strong header in. Benaglio

beaten. The question before this game is, how good are the French?

That they were not perhaps tested as much as they might have been against

Honduras. They have started superbly well year. Matuidi with a second! In

the blink of an night, France has a 2-0 lead. Matuidi, the man they call

the Marathon man, has done it for France! Hitzfield is shell-shocked.

Deschamps cannot believe it. France have a 2-goal lead with 18 minutes

played. Well, the Swiss are absolutely shell-shocked. A mistake

you are giving France possession. And what about that for a finish

from the angle from Matuidi? Only his fourth international goal. My

word, that must rank as one of the best. Their 101st World Cup goal.

Giroud took them to a century. Matuidi has just taken them beyond.

How do Switzerland respond to this? Here come France again. Benzema was

the target but it is aware by Lichsteiner. The Arena Fonte Nova is

buzzing, not for the first time in this tournament. 12 goals in less

than two and a half games seen at this stadium. Confirmation that

there were 66 seconds between those two French goals. They have another

free kick. Another promising position. Two goals in eight World

Cup matches previous two today conceded by Switzerland. And two

goals in 66 seconds they have conceded to this electrifying French

team. That was wide. I think the flag was up for offside. I think it

is Benzema who starts to run a little early.

They are rather missing their connections at the moment, the

Swiss, rattled by those goals. The French are allowed and proud. --

loud. A little coming together here

between Olivier Giroud and Stephan Lichtsteiner. The referee will keep

an eye on that, I am sure. Nobody in the middle to make

anything of that. Here comes Rodriguez.

Seferovic tried to get in behind Sakho but the central defender stays

strong and makes sure it is out for a free kick -- goalkick. Terrific

leap by Olivier Giroud. Despite the very best efforts of Benaglio,

unable to keep it out. And literally 66 seconds later, here comes Matuidi

with a wonderful finish from the angle. Oh, no! It translates into

any language. They will have a throw again, the

French. Five internationals before this this

year, the French have won four and drawn one, but they have scored 18

goals. They are on a terrific strike rate in 2014. You just wonder how

form -- far this form can take them. Second behind Spain in qualifying,

they had to go through the play-offs. They lost the opening

play-off game against Ukraine, which prompted one French newspaper to ask

if this was the worst French side in record on history. A 3-0 return when

brought them here. What they have been doing since has made quite a

few people sit up and take notice. It is all too easy for the French

defence. Attacking with real menace again,

the French. Benzema! He just tried to push it through.

athleticism in the French defensive line. We'll take something good for

Switzerland to pierce the armour. -- it will take. The referee settling

things down. Sakho having a word. Shaqiri waiting to deliver it. A

decent ball, Inler hitting it in, but offside. The flag was up before

he got into his celebration proper. I don't think anyone in the stadium

expected it to stay down. The man who did strike it home was certainly

effort that shows the inflated confidence that the French have

about them at the moment. Why wouldn't you have a go from that

distance, given the fact that your side is leading 2-0, you have scored

one of them? Everything is looking pretty rosy in the French garden at

the moment. Here is an opportunity to push the other way, only half

away, Shaqiri, right across the face of goal. That close for Switzerland.

Given away by the French in the middle, the sharpest response.

Shaqiri's shot powered away by Lloris. The keeper got a hand to

that. Fingertips. I do think the referee saw it. Seferovic was not

far away on the far post. That will give the Swiss plenty of

hope with 30 minutes played. Despite those two quickfire goals conceded,

there is still potential in this game for them. Shaqiri. Here is

towards. The pass is poor, the hole is being exploited by Benzema.

Claims for a penalty, gets the penalty. Djourou chopping at his

ankles. The referee had a good line of vision, pointing to the spot.

They can complain as much as they like. The Dutch referee will not

change his mind here. Benzema, tantalising and teasing, and when

Djourou came across with the challenge, there was contact. The

referee had an excellent sight of that.

I think Djourou is congratulating Karim Benzema on winning that

penalty kick. He feels that the referee was fooled.

They like their penalties at World Cup finals, do France. Karim Benzema

follow-up is off the woodwork by Cabaye. Somehow Benaglio gives the

Swiss and escape. -- an escape. It was not the best bit penalties, the

follow-up from Cabaye should have been buried. Instead, the Swiss

survived with a 2-0 deficit when it might have been three. Sissoko

looking wide to Debuchy. This is Sissoko. Debuchy. The flexion, could

have been helpful. Shaqiri. Matuidi very quickly on to him. Rodriguez

put down by Debuchy. Inler. Now Senderos. Looking for the

run of Seferovic. Always martialled. You would have expected him to score

this every day of the week. Benzema denied, Cabaye at the second time of

asking, they did not believe it. Here is Lichtsteiner. Switzerland in

danger of being overrun again. Evra leading the charge. Plenty of

defenders back, and the pass is poor as well.

Djourou. Senderos, playing his third World Cup finals, three games in

2006, one game four years ago, when an ankle injury ended his tournament

prematurely. An injury today giving him a chance to extend his World Cup

experience today. Switzerland pushing forward with Shaqiri, went

to ground looking for the free kick. Xhaka. Behrami. Djourou.

They are trying to be neat and tidy, but not finding a way to penetrate

the French backline. Djourou did not get booked for that penalty, another

yellow card would force him to miss the next game with suspension. Here

is Senderos, Rodriguez. They may have had their confidence

knocked in this first half, the Swiss. Just looking to regroup, if

they can. They went behind in the opening game against Ecuador,

finding a way back, but that was only one goal. With all due respect

to Ecuador, they don't carry the same pedigree as the friendship.

Shaqiri, he is a bright spark. Seferovic, but Raphael Varane and,

he has support. Benzema trying to make space. -- Raphael Varane. .

What is up with Lichtsteiner? I do not think the referee is too

impressed. A big smile from the Dutchman. There was a clash of

heads. Senderos. Rodrigue is being closed

down, again losing it. The French come forward, he comes Ben. Senderos

keeping his poise. -- here comes Benzema.

Mehmedi. Goal-scoring hero just four days ago. Rodriguez.

Skips away from the challenge from Debuchy. Played in four Shaqiri.

That is a corner, could have been so much better. Seferovic could have

been unremarked, had Shaqiri been able to avoid the violence is of the

three defenders. Here comes Rodriguez with the corner.

time. Rolling it in for a third goal. It is the little man, Mathieu

Valbuena. France have three, they are on their way.

sting. They have missed a penalty, and yet they still lead 3-0 five

minutes of the half remaining. It is painful to watch first Swiss eyes.

How do they climb back into this contest? Can they? It is a Swiss

side who looked absolutely flat at the moment. -- look. They had to dig

deep. Senderos was asking too much of

Rodriguez by some distance. The French celebrations already in full

flow. They have plenty of tricks up their sleeves in this first half.

Matuidi... Real strength and athleticism about this French side.

The save from Valbuena. It is a question of how many here at this

stage. Every past being cheered by the

French and the neutrals alike in the crowd here in Salvador.

The French supporters absolutely bouncing in sheer delight with what

mathematical certainty with a 3-0 win here. But given their goal

difference as well, it will take something absolutely monumental to

deny them a place, even now, in that last 16. The Swiss defence perhaps

unsettled by the loss of Von Bergen in the early stages. Even so, you

would not have bet against the French, the way they have played, in

scoring as often as they have, even with Von Bergen on the field. Two

minutes of stoppage time. The Swiss are going backwards.

A goal back before the break would be very good indeed.

Cabaye with the eagle eye darting forward and reading it well, and

winning it back. France was another counterattack. We know how this so

often ends. Benzema... He cannot pull it back

with any real force to truly test Benaglio.

Into the final few seconds of this opening half, with the Swiss in

possession but very much out of control. The French have been

devastated in that opening 45 minutes. -- devastating. Given

themselves a winning platform. Giroud, Matuidi and Valbuena the

goal-scorers as France racked up three. They even have the luxury of

seeing Benzema miss a penalty. France lead Switzerland by 3-0.

Eight of Switzerland's last ten World Cup wins have come in the

second half of matters. They need three more at the very least this

afternoon to get something from this match. They need a miracle against a

French side that is running riot and looking very good. Mehmedi... There

was a little pull. Seferovic puts it over. It is a bright, encouraging

start for the Swiss. They need lots more of that.

They have made a change to their personnel in the second half.

Gemelli has come on and replaced Behrami. -- Dzemaili. Von Bergen has

been taken to hospital with a suspected fractured cheekbone, and

also to check out his eye as well because that boot was very close to

his eye. Look at the ground that Sakho covered. His timing was

perfect. Wonderful defending. Mehmedi thought he was clear. Look

at that. The rhetoric. Absolutely the rhetoric. -- terroristic,

absolutely terrific. Ottmar Hitzfield no doubt perplexed

with what he has seen in the first-half. Impressed, I am sure,

quietly with the way the French played it.

It is another French corner. They are starting the second half in the

manner in which they finished the first.

The Swiss under pressure again. The majority of French supporters behind

that goal that France attack in this second period.

There was not much Sissoko could do with that.

France get the free kick. If France win here, and surely they will, as

long as Honduras beat Ecuador in the other game, or it is a draw, they

will go through for certain. But with six points and a six goal goal

difference, it is very hard to see them not qualify from here anyway.

A fresh head in the middle of the Swiss midfield, Dzemaili. The Swiss

players have been shell-shocked by events so far.

That was a rather hopeful effort. The man from Real Sociedad. Like a

lot of these Swiss players, he plays with teams who are pretty

well-respected in Germany, Italy and Spain.

It is thinking time for Ottmar Hitzfield. He will have seen

situations like this before. How does he respond? How do his players

little bit of space opening up for that long-range effort. It will take

something very special, as the old cliche says, to beat Hugo Lloris

Shaqiri. Once again, the Swiss are possibly deciders over their own

downfall. Giroud trying the shot from distance that whistles

worldwide. Time and again the Swiss have given away possession in their

own half, making it very dangerous for themselves, but the French can't

prosper this time. The skies above us just beginning to

darken, with ten minutes of the second half played. Still a bright

outlook from a French point of view, they lead by 3-0, if you are joining

us late. Two in the space of 60 seconds, number one and number two

macro, Benzema missing a penalty, Valbuena scoring the third to give

his side a truly outstanding position to play the second half

with. Inler. Dzemaili. Shaqiri has a

couple of French defenders with him. Including Varane.

nicely, a chance for Dzemaili. There is something about substitutes in

Swiss colours in this tournament, two scoring comeback goals in the

last game, a decent opportunity to test Lloris, failing to do so

adequately. Senderos. Shaqiri. Riding his luck a

little, no shortage of skilled. Rodriguez, another strong challenge

from Sissoko, coming last off the Swiss man.

Senderos. Dzemaili. Mehmedi is wide on the left. Drawing a couple

defenders to him. Senderos. The French are defending tightly at the

moment. Not making anything easy for this Swiss side. Lichtsteiner. Here

is Djourou. Senderos again. Dzemaili. Evra. A couple of slips,

suddenly the French are in attacking mode. Benzema, wide to Valbuena,

looking for Giroud. Senderos has to do bit more work. Falling for

Benzema. Matuidi. Sissoko is in there. Valbuena, then the shot from

Benzema, deflected over for a corner. How quickly they put

themselves in that kind of position, the French. Just a couple

of errors from the Swiss, and France are all over them. A little bit of

luck required for Switzerland to ride out that moment of danger. More

Matuidi was in position to launch it back, he has gone all the way back

to Hugo Lloris in the French goal. 16 shots for France, 11 of them on

target. The French supporters, as you would

expect, making quite a noise here. The Brazilians are joining in as

well. To ratchet up the atmosphere little. This is Cabaye. Debuchy.

Working hard, putting pressure on Rodriguez. He goes flailing to the

ground, the referee was well cited, unimpressed by the attempts to win

This is Lichtsteiner. Inler. Shaqiri. He is quick footed and

quick-witted, not quick enough to beat the French defence. Then the

drifted across, just over the head of a couple. A change for France.

Paul Pogba coming on, Olivier Giroud the man coming. His goal starting

the French party in the first half. After only 17 minutes.

Paul Pogba, he started the first game against Honduras, will take his

place. Here is Varane. Inler. They are

enjoying time on the ball, the Swiss. Confidence is not shot to

pieces by what happened in the first period. You would not want them to

throw away all the good work of the last few years, work in progress

under Ottmar Hitzfeld. Many in the squad were in the under 17s squad

that won a tournament. They have been growing to this tournament,

sixth in the world according to the FIFA rankings. They had a bad first

half, that does not mean a ban World Cup, depends on how they respond.

Dzemaili laying it right. In a virginity for Mehmedi. -- an

opportunity for Mehmedi, his first touch was a bit heavy. A glimmer of

hope for Switzerland. Finding a way through the French defence. Mehmedi

was unmarked. The first touch ballooning it away.

A problem for Sakho. It seems to be his lower leg. He had a thigh

problem for Liverpool. Not walking very easily at the moment. You

wonder if it is a recurrence of the same injury. Looks as if he's coming

off. He will be replaced by Lauren

Koscielny. A worrying sign for the French. For Sakho especially.

Memory do Sakho -- memory Mamadou Sakho retreating to the sidelines,

gives Lauren Koscielny a first taste of this World Cup. Koscielny wears

the number six shirt at Arsenal, took it over from the man wearing

number six for Switzerland, Senderos. An opportunity for

Benzema, he will not miss from there. His third World Cup goal.

France's seventh in total, their fourth in this match already. It

would appear they are flying through to the last 16. It was a Swiss

defence in tatters again. Pogba delivering the ball, Benzema onside,

Senderos missing the flight, he puts it through the legs of the

goalkeeper. Making it 4-0. They are enjoying every moment of their time

in Brazil. Midway through the second half, Senderos cannot believe what

has befallen him and his team. It will go down as a defensive error

from him. Another goal from Benzema, three goals in two macro

matches in this World Cup, nine goals in his last eight

international appearances. How do Switzerland recover their

poise from this? They are making another change. Seferovic is going

to be replaced by Drmic. Even Seferovic expected Drmic to start

today. The last time France scored four goals in a World Cup game was

back in 1998 at the tournament they staged, against Saudi Arabia. They

won by 4-0. If memory serves, it was a match at the start to France. --

Stander France. France leading by four - zero.

Switzerland looking for some kind of response to lift their hopes for the

next game at least. This would appear to be a lost cause. 20

minutes remaining for them to create some kind of football miracle.

Just steered wide. Not a bad effort. Pogba's ball in here and

Benzema with his third goal of this World Cup tournament. Putting France

out of sight, surely. Valbuena chasing. The finish was

nearly very good. Patrice Evra came a long way to get in that position.

He could not quite finish it. Picking a whole again in the Swiss

defence. Evra just lacking the touch when it mattered.

The French playing this now in such an easy way. They have the numbers

again here. Pogba! Is five goals for the French! Welcome to the party,

Sissoko. They are having a ball. It is so easy on the eye here. And

France are laying down the mark at the World Cup finals. Look at the

way again they just one picked the Swiss defence. So many men in white

shirts. Sissoko on the right side with another fine finish. Benzema

the provider. And France have a 5-0 lead. They are sharing the goals

around. 2006 was a nightmare for the French. This is something of a dream

start to 2014. This is a stadium which has seen

more than its fair share of goals already. 15 goals in the three World

Cup matches played here, and counting. Still 17 minutes of this

one left. Today the Swiss want to end as quickly as possible.

They have lost heart, it seems. The Swiss.

Three of the French players, by the way, are on yellow cards at the

moment. Patrice Evra, Yohan Cabaye and Paul Pogba all have a yellow

card to their name. You just wonder whether they might be better off

picking up another yellow card, without being too cynical here.

Surely the next game for France is not going to matter too much in

terms of whether they qualify or not. The goalkeeper saved from

Valbuena. The goalkeeper saves again and

again, and Senderos hoax it away. The Swiss are rocking and rolling

once again. But somehow they survive. Still only five. Only five!

That took a deflection on the way through. Somehow they managed to

keep that out. A couple of decent saves by Benaglio. Acrobatic stuff

from Senderos. Lloris got a left hand to that. From the cusp of

disaster when they almost didn't qualify, given how things started in

that play-off game against Ukraine, to the point of being installed as

potentially one of the favourites for this tournament, France, with

the way they have produced the goals and produced the goods in the

opening two matches so far. Eight goals scored, none conceded.

The French National Convention ringing around the stadium. --

national anthem. Time and again they have been

overrun in the midfield. It has produced chances for France at the

other end. This really has been an

extraordinary show by the French. If they finished top of this group, by

the way, they will play the runners up in Group F. , Iran and Nigeria in

that group. -- Argentina, Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria. Switzerland will

still have high hopes of getting through the group. But goal

difference against them may prove crucial going into that final game.

So getting a goal back just gives them a little bit more optimism.
