Hello and welcome to highlights of Day 13 from the 2014 World Cup.

Plenty to discuss with Robbie Savage. Two games to show you.

Colombia against Japan and Greece and Ivory Coast. Also Uruguay

against Italy, which provided one of the talking points of the World Cup.

We start with England against Costa Rica. Nine changes from their defeat

to Uruguay. Meaningless game? Nothing to play

for? That is the plain truth, but try telling that to the England

supporters here this afternoon. They've come a long way to watch

this, for many their only game of the World Cup and they are here to

enjoy it and see England win. Costa Rica might already have qualified

for the last 16, but they've only made two changes. Roy Miller of New

York Red Bulls and Brenes are the players to come in. Roy Hodgson

named his side yesterday, one that shows nine changes from the Uruguay

game. Only Gary Cahill and Daniel Sturridge stay in and with the

exception of Frank Lampard, it really is a glimpse into the next

era for England. In goal, Ben Foster plays instead of Joe Hart. Costa

Rica looking to make it three wins out of three. If you thought that

was possible before the tournament began, you could have had odds of

600 Parthian. Scott Jardine from Worthing had a fiver on it. - 600

one. Costa Rica are playing the ball around nicely. Very confident in

possession. Ben Foster left rooted to the spot! Joel Campbell who

managed to fire. He's done that against United in the Champions

League this season. I think it got a deflection off Gary Cahill. I

thought it was going to go over Ben Foster, he was rooted to the

ground. The England supporters have done this country proud in the World

Cup. Those that are here are milking the experience and have taken it on

the chin as best they can. Doesn't make it any easier! Sturridge suits!

Only just wide and Navas wasn't entirely sure. Jack Wilshere surging

forward and Sturridge did the keeper with his eyes. The only time we've

seen Wilshere open up his legs. Sturridge just dragged it wide. 0-0

in the sunshine of Bellow horizontally. Sturridge having a go,

not a bad go. Would have had to be special to score from there. When

you are in his form, you have to just hit it. Campbell was caught in

the middle of three. He was quite happy to go to ground, but no real

dispute about the free kick award. Bourget is trying to curl one

around... What a save! It is a corner. Foster got across quite

brilliantly. He tried to do him with his eyes. That's the side Ben Foster

was, but a good save in the end. Won by Sturridge. Barclay Wright,

Wilshere left. Further left is Milner. - Barkley. James Milner.

Knocked down four Sturridge! He couldn't quite get a clear shot.

Claiming he was fouled. He was appealing for a penalty, I think he

thought he got a nudge. The ball had just gone past him. Good running

from Lallana, well spotted by Lampard. Sturridge and Milner in the

box. Behind for a corner. It's in these areas where we've been

disappointing in the tournament. We haven't quite delivered. In from

Barkley. Nodded across and just over the bar from storage. Lovely

knock-back from Phil Jones and Sturridge couldn't get over the top

of it. You just have to keep it down and guide it into the corner.

Barclay finds Shaw. Barclay wasn't able to get into a

shooting position at first, and then he was off balance. # Road Barkley.

He just has to compose himself a little bit there. He could have

taken him on, he has the pace and strength to go past him. He is

growing into the game, getting more touches of the ball. Only failed to

win a game at one previous World Cup, back in 1958, when they went

back home with three draws and a defeat. Luke Shaw driving on. He had

his arm pulled. England free kick. That's what we've seen him do for

Southampton, charging down the left. Headed firmly away. Shaw went with

his right foot. Deflected to Sturridge. Navas came out really

quickly. His first touch let him down, got stuck under his foot. I

think Daniel Sturridge will be disappointed with his first touch. A

draw will be enough for Costa Rica to make sure of top spot in the

group and that would mean they would play on Sunday. Lallana is onto it,

Sturridge is waiting. Navas gathers. He is a good keeper. So quick,

Navas. Looked like a simple square pass, but he came off his line

quickly again. Nice touch from Wilshere to Lampard. Referee got in

the way and Bryan Ruiz certainly did to win the ball and dance away from

Barkley. Jones has given it back to Ruiz. Bolanos lets fly. Well held by

Foster. Phil Jones gave it away. I think Ben Foster has been

outstanding, he's caught everything that's come his way. Seven of the

Costa Rica players were called in the drug testing after the game

against Italy, only two Italians. The manager said their footballers

are crystalline and pure! Sturridge has put it wide, he couldn't quite

get the curl he needed. Lovely exchange between Sturridge and

Wilshere. Committed Roy Miller, tried to pass it into the corner,

the keeper was beaten. Just missing the final touch today, Daniel

Sturridge. Nice bit of skill from Sterling. Sturridge might have to do

this by himself. The referee signals corner.

Gonzalez. I think he got a faint touch, there was no appeal from

Daniel Sturridge, that tells you a lot. Steven Gerrard is going to come

on and this could be the true marking of the end of an era. Are we

about to see Gerrard and Lampard together in midfield for the very

last time for England? A partnership that should have been the golden

generation, but with so many people saying it never quite worked. Costa

Rica, now, they've got a back five two sat in front and just one up

front. They are happy with a draw. Rooney thought about a shot and now

he tries to chip the keeper. Navas has to pop it over the top. Clever

play from Wayne Rooney. Good vision from Rooney, he knew the keeper was

off his line. He's been impressive today, Navas. Might have just dipped

in or hit the crossbar. Blasted away by Navas. Costa Rica players punch

the air. Jeers around the stadium from people who wanted to see goals.

The scene of one of England's greatest failures, 1-0 defeat to the

USA in the 1950 World Cup, is a dark place for England once again in

2014. We knew their fate before the match, they were going home anyway,

but they are going home without a win to their name. But it's not

England's story, it's Costa Rica's. In a group with three former World

Cup winners, they've only gone and won eight. 0-0.

For many people watching at home this evening, there weren't as many

reasons to be cheerful as they had hoped, what did you see? I don't

know, we dominated the game. I saw a lot of goal chances created. I saw

nine players who had never played in a World Cup before. A bit

disappointed that that's the general judgement. I thought the back four

was excellent throughout the game. Costa Rica have beaten Uruguay and

Italy. I never saw them beating us today. Was it hard to get the

players up? Yes and no. We were a bit down after being knocked out. A

lot of players played here who wanted to get on the pitch and shows

something. The world carries on watching and you have to show you

are proud to put on the jersey and we did that. We worked hard and it's

just a disappointing tournament. Does this put you in any clearer

state of mind as to where your international future lies? I really

enjoy it, it's hard to let go when you love playing for your country. I

don't know. I'll make in the judgement when the dust settles.

Gerrard and Lampard have been great for this country and they can keep

going. But now it's time for the young players to stop talking. You

see Germany's young players delivery, Italy, and it's time for

us now. That's where England's World Cup has ended. A single point.

Players should be arriving home about now. How do you think the

players and fans will look back on this? Huge disappointment. The first

20 minutes against Italy, attacking football, movement, but after that

it was so poor. The Uruguay defeat, they equalised and then the

defending was shambolic at times. Against Costa Rica, they finished

bottom of the group. Overall, huge disappointment. Tactically not good

enough. Big questions. About the shape and structure? The structure

of English football, every time in big tournaments the same things

happen. Roy Hodgson, fantastic man, I personally don't think, for the

players he's got at his disposal, it hasn't been given enough -- good

enough. I would restructure the whole thing from the top. Lots of

other countries have done it. Every team plays the same. Under 15, under

17, you progress and you know what you're doing. The man I would look

to have a role would be Glenn Hoddle. He was

1998 World Cup. Not sure whether you agree or disagree with Robbie, but

another World Cup is over for England. Who will join Costa Rica? A

straight shoot out between Uruguay and Italy. They have six World Cup

final victories between them, but this match will now decide which of

these former winners will go home before the knockout stages, and in

Italy's case, they are bidding to avoid exactly the same

disappointment as four years ago. Cesare Prandelli makes four changes

to the team that lost to Costa Rica. Uruguay name exactly the same team

that beat England, Luis Suarez says he is feeling fitter and stronger

and looks to add to his five goals in seven World Cup appearances.

Excellent strength from Balotelli, fouled in the end, another Italy

free kick. Uruguay have dealt with one Pirlo free kick already, can

they deal with this one? It is a little bit more direct, he was not

convincing. Just about effective in the end from the Uruguay goalkeeper.

Balotelli involved again. Penalised again! And Mario Balotelli is going

to be the first recipient of a yellow cards today, and if Italy get

into the last 16, Super Mario will not be available. The referees

signalling there it is one car offences he has done. He has gone

for the ball, his feet are high. -- one or two offences.

Rodriguez has been a lively figure for Uruguay. He has gone again, he

has got there! The clearest opportunity yet for Atletico

Madrid's Cristian Rodriguez. He was unable to take it. It was a big

chance, a big, big chance. Marchisio... Oh, it is a red card!

Right in front of the referee, the Mexican official, Marco red rigours,

shows a straight red card to cloud your Marchisio. -- Marco Rodriguez.

He didn't follow through with it, the referee was in a great spot,

could not get in a better position, immediate red card. Prandelli is not

happy, that I think it was over the top of the ball.

Will it be coming to an end for Italy? Not as it stands. Suarez

takes charge, great save from Buffon! Down to is right-hand side

to deny Luis Suarez. He has been quiet today, Suarez, but that was

his opportunity. Good save from Buffon. Italy back in numbers, ten

men. Two players down in the penalty

area, Chiellini and Suarez have renewed acquaintances.

Luis Suarez is a very, very lucky man! I can't believe it, he's done

it again, he's bitten Chiellini! That is unbelievable! Absolutely

incredible. And look at Chiellini, look at Chiellini, taking his shirt

off to show the scar to the referee. He has bitten him! Have any of the

official seen that? Suarez would be off. It is Ivanovic all over again,

isn't it? He should be off, you should be off there, Luis Suarez,

incredibly lucky. Is the tale going to be that Suarez

is involved in some way? Did that strike his hand? Uruguay thought so,

the referee did not. All Uruguay get is a corner,

Southampton's Gaston Ramirez is going to deliver. Up go the heads,

and there it is! It is Godin, the Uruguay captain, on his 80th cap, to

beat Buffon and put Uruguay in front! Is that the goal that sends

Oscar Tabarez's team into the knockout stages and sends Italy

home?! It certainly looks it, doesn't it? A great ball played in.

Godin just attacked it. It came off his back. You just

wonder, if Uruguay do go through, whether we will see Suarez in this

tournament again. That could be as tournament, and he deserves it. I

have got to say that, he deserves it.

The semifinalists of four years ago, Uruguay, are through to the last 16.

Oscar Tabarez has done it again, and Cesare Prandelli and Italy suffered

the humiliation of not getting out of the group stage for the second

World Cup finals running. It is Diego Godin, nine minutes from time,

but all the headlines will be surrounding Luis Suarez, the uglier

side of his game on show and unnoticed. Italy join England in

crashing out of Group D. It is Uruguay who progress. Italy 0,

Uruguay 1. So today's results leave the Group D

final table looking like this. Uruguay join Costa Rica in the last

16, and England finish bottom of the group with just one point.

Uruguay go through, but everybody watching this morning is talking

about Luis Suarez. A twofold question, will he play a further

role in this World Cup, and should he? Should he? Definitely not, I

think they should be a massive ban internationally. The big question

is, can they banned him for his club as well? That is what they have got

to decide. I think it should be an automatic... At least for this

tournament and the next tournament, the World Cup, because what he has

done on the world stage today, the third time he has done it, by the

way, is an absolute disgrace. How many people watched that game around

the world? Disgrace. I do not think you should, but will he? Let's see

how FIFA deal with this. They should ban him. I know you were

particularly annoyed with how he reacted. It is interesting Uruguay

have done all they can to defend him, the players trying to cover up

the bite marks on Chiellini's shoulder, the manager saying, it is

a World Cup, it is not about morals. But you think you should be banned

for a long time. He portrays himself as the victim again, we have seen it

in the Premier League with Ivanovic, when he went down, he was the

victim, and we have seen it again today when he holds his teeth! I

think he said, I got touched in the eye. He is holding his teeth! It is

not acceptable. The disappointing thing is that last year he was the

Player of the Year, he won everybody around, such a great footballer, but

I think he has led his country down. You can understand the handball four

years ago on the line, every player would have done that, take one for

the team, and ball. But not that, totally wrong. Luis Suarez, the

centre of controversy at the World Cup. Loads of people having that

debate on social media, what they think about Luis Suarez, I am sure

that will continue. His country will face the winners of Group C,

Colombia faced Japan, we will see that shortly, but first Greece

against Ivory Coast, who had a chance of topping the group.

Two nations vying to reach the last 16 for the first time ever, but only

at Ivory Coast have their fate entirely in their hands. When the

game, and they are through. Greece needs to win and hope Japan do not

beat Colombia to be absolutely sure of progress themselves. Veteran

midfielder Kostas Katsouranis is suspended.

The big news for Ivory Coast is that Didier Drogba starts for the first

time at this World Cup after two substitute appearances. Wilfried

Bony is dropped to the bench. Both Toure brothers play after what has

been an emotionally difficult week after the loss of their brother. A

third successive exit at the group stage would be a sad outcome for

this Ivorian golden generation. Carluke pointed to where he wanted

it and nearly got it where he wanted as well. -- Kalou.

Cheick Tiote diving in, but comfortably clear by Marriott is. --

Manny Ardis. Kolo Toure trying to get across, and they have smashed

the bar! And untimely trip, and Greece are denied the opening goal

by the crossbar. Where did that come from?! On the break, there is the

intent, just plays it into the channel. A big let of there, a

warning. Karagounis strikes it, Barry right

behind the ball. It is right down the goalkeeper's throat, but credit

to him, he concentrated, great handling. Agony for Greece as they

look for their first goal here in Brazil. Here is Toure, now Tiote,

but it was too short, and here come Greece. The substitute with a great

chance, and he buries it! With half-time on the horizon, Greece

have their first goal at the World Cup. It is an awful mistake from

Tiote, just a sloppy pass, they have only got themselves to blame. All

credit to the Greeks, any mistakes, they are on it in a flash. Beautiful

finish. It is a mistake of their own making, the goalkeeper just... He

has got to stand up there, the keeper, he could have done better.

It is Yaya Toure in full flight, still going. And the block does not

quite spin the way of Salomon Kalou. Yaya Toure, Majestic, that little

change of gear, look at the power and pace, he comes inside. You

cannot get enough power in the shot, good defending. If we could

have just lifted that around the defender, that would have been a

sensational goal. It certainly would have been. Gervinho started the

match brightly but drifted away. This is good play in towards Kolo

Toure. Tiote! Straight at Glykos. Good save

from the keeper, nice and solid. Greece forced to make two early

substitutions, the goalkeeper, Karnezis, going off in the opening

quarter of the match. Karagounis lets fly, what a block! It bounces

away off the top of the crossbar, how about this?! Fantastic effort!

The goalkeeper has not got a clue where it is. Greece will not be

uncomfortable in this sort of scenario, will they? They might be

an comfortable now, it is Gervinho, it is 1-1, and Ivory Coast are right

back in this one, and they are right back in the World Cup! Absolutely

superb play. It is one goal that could make all the difference, and

Wilfried Bony of Swansea City has come off the bench to score it.

Great move, just playing behind, look how deep the Greek defender

is, keeping everybody onside. Gervinho plays into his path, how

simple is that? It bounces away again off the frame

of the goal, the near post of Barry's goal this time. We are

heading for three minutes of added time here. Ivory Coast still have

some defending to do. Oh, they have got a penalty! It is a

penalty to Greece here, and it has come in added time at the end of the

game! What drama! Samaras goes to pull the trigger, and Sio catches

him from behind. This is the game right here, and he

has done it! An historic victory is theirs, there will barely be time

for Ivory Coast to take off again, and they surely now are heading out

in the group stages for the third time in a row. Well, absolutely

unbelievable. The pressure he was under, just handled it beautifully.

That is a lovely contact, he is calm, he just lifted, great penalty.

I mean, you cannot emphasise enough the pressure he was under. And that

is it, Ivory Coast have been beaten right at the last, a famous, famous

victory for Greece and Georgios Samaras is the hero with a penalty

in adult time at the end of the game. You can hardly believe how

that one turned out. -- added time. Japan have never beaten South

American opponents and Colombia have never lost to the Japanese. Japan

have dominated possession in their two matches, but they've had just

six shots on target. They bring back Shinji Kagawa having dropped him

against Greece. selection, eight changes. Jackson

Martinez looks for his first Colombian goal in five years.

Now Colombia will bring it away. Martinez looking for a moss. Penalty

kick! Challenge by Konno. Leeds his innocence, but the referee blew

immediately. It's a pen all day long. He had done his job if he had

just held. One of the most exciting players so far, what are at over.

1-0. - Cuadrado. Listen to that raw. Daft, isn't it? Japan were

having a nice spell, playing nice football, one moment of madness and

they are 1-0 down. Kagawa onto his right foot! The keeper Reddit well.

It's that position again. Four Times Japan have got through that little

hole. Great effort! Japan have finally got

a goal! Kazakh you with a header. 1-1. - Boka Zaki. The last effort of

the half. There's the goal at last for Jackson

Martinez! Five years he's waited for that. But it was made by a sublime

piece of skill by James Rodwell gets. - James Rodriguez. He just

eases it into the path of Martinez. Good finish as well.

Danger here for Colombia. A lovely move. First-time passing at pace,

brilliant. Early cross, across the man, great chance.

Space denied him very, very quickly. Rodriguez can break. Will he be

adventurous or conservative? Looks for the run of Jackson Martinez.

Puts the game beyond Japan! He steers Colombia to a maximum nine

points out of nine. Extraordinary. The long wait was over with the

first goal. Takes the second with a lovely piece of finishing. Double

figures now for his country. Imagine if Falcao was fit! This could be an

interesting moment if they send on Mondragon. He would be the oldest

player ever to play at a World Cup finals. Nine years since his last

competitive international. Played against England in lens in 1998. He

cried at the end. David Seaman consoled him. This is a fantastic

World Cup moment. Who says there's no romance in football? He retires

after this. They are all singing his name.

James Rodriguez to finish it. Great composure, a dummy, a sublime

finish. A wonderful goal from a wonderful young player. Colombia

have a fourth goal and he will be a global star. He is a player. He

gives you something else. Fantastic. Five in five games for them now. I

thought he panicked at the end! His third of these finals, lovely

finish. Deep into stoppage time in both games. Honda tried to flick it

through. He is the man who's done so much covering work am a Mejia.

No sleep in our hotel again tonight! A few Colombians in there. Great

run! Keeper foxed. Honda on the edge of the box. It's all over! Colombia

have won the group, they've beaten Japan 4-1. Mondragon gets on, the

oldest player ever in the World Cup finals, and Rodriguez scores a

spectacular fourth to add to the two from Martinez. Japan are out,

Colombia are through, and they will meet Uruguay.

After all the drama, sensational goals, what an end to the Greece

against Ivory Coast match. Let's see how the group finished.

It means Colombia will play Uruguay at the Maracanazo on Saturday in Rio

de Janeiro. Greece will play Costa Rica on Sunday.

Greece making it through to the knockout stages in the World Cup for

the first time in their history in about the most dramatic fission -

fashion possible. What a cool head from Samaras. To put your country

through with the last kick of the game. The pressure on that

situation. Score and you are through, Miss and you are out. All

those months of preparation, it comes down to one kick from 12

yards. We saw it with Ghana four years ago against Uruguay. Summarise

with a cool head, great finish, but Ivory Coast only have themselves to

blame. They went for a second goal when they didn't need it. That's it
