Welcome to Match of the Day Two Extra. We're analysing the weekend's | :00:18. | :00:36.
football on BBC One, Radio 5Live and the BBC Sport website. Coming up, | :00:37. | :00:39.
we'll talk about tomorrow's big match between leaders Manchester | :00:40. | :00:49.
City and Chelsea. A couple of games today as well. West Brom face | :00:50. | :00:57.
Liverpool and then Arsenal play Crystal Palace. And we'll review | :00:58. | :01:02.
yesterday's action. Our guests this lunchtime. BBC football pundit | :01:03. | :01:05.
Robbie Savage. 5live football commentator Alan Green. And the | :01:06. | :01:07.
Independent's football writer, Ian Herbert. You can get in touch in all | :01:08. | :01:13.
the usual ways. 85058 on the text, @bbcmotd and via the Match of the | :01:14. | :01:22.
Day Facebook page. Plenty to talk about. I want to start by not | :01:23. | :01:28.
talking about the Premier League for once. But a club who perhaps should | :01:29. | :01:33.
be in the Premier League, Leeds united. There is a 2-page article in | :01:34. | :01:43.
the newspapers today talking about a club that is in chaos and could fall | :01:44. | :01:49.
into the hands of an Italian fraudster, their words. Because the | :01:50. | :01:56.
man who is looking to buy them has been to dump fraud in Italy. On a | :01:57. | :02:00.
couple of occasions. This would be the biggest test of whether a leak | :02:01. | :02:06.
in this country is willing and able and capable of inventing someone | :02:07. | :02:13.
like that from taking over a club. Leeds are in real trouble | :02:14. | :02:17.
financially. They are paying off the debt of being in the Premier League | :02:18. | :02:21.
but they are losing about ?50 million per season. There are | :02:22. | :02:25.
desperate for a buyer and a by-product of that desperation is | :02:26. | :02:30.
someone like Massimo Chellino who wants to buy the club and has the | :02:31. | :02:36.
fact to sack manager before he has even taken over. Normally in these | :02:37. | :02:40.
situations you ask guests what is going on. That is an impossible | :02:41. | :02:46.
question to answer. The Italian side say they have not sat McDermott, | :02:47. | :02:51.
that that came from the current orders -- owners. It is ridiculous. | :02:52. | :03:01.
It is wholly absurd. I'm hoping like probably everyone here that the foot | :03:02. | :03:08.
will leak in this case will take a stand. And when they talk about fit | :03:09. | :03:13.
and proper persons, they will look at it and say that this fraudster is | :03:14. | :03:18.
not fit and proper. Over the last couple of days, he was not in a | :03:19. | :03:24.
position to sack McDermott because he did not own the club. McDermott | :03:25. | :03:32.
does, McDermott knows that if Massimo Chellino takes over, | :03:33. | :03:40.
McDermott has no future at the club. So even if the club issued a | :03:41. | :03:44.
statement saying you're not sacked, come back and everything is fine, | :03:45. | :03:48.
McDermott must know he has no future at Leeds United if the ownership | :03:49. | :03:53.
changes to the benefit of this man. The club statement said something | :03:54. | :03:57.
like Brian McDermott has not been dismissed and we look forward to his | :03:58. | :04:03.
continuing his role with us. But why would he want to continue? It is | :04:04. | :04:10.
very hard. All the sympathy is with the fans. They turn up week in, week | :04:11. | :04:19.
out. They give me abuse when I play against them! You have sympathy with | :04:20. | :04:25.
Brian McDermott who is a good man, an honest man, and with the fans. It | :04:26. | :04:32.
is shambolic. Given the financial situation, they are in danger of | :04:33. | :04:42.
becoming the next Leeds! Going back a bit. That is right. One of the | :04:43. | :04:50.
interesting potential aspect, they're owned at the moment by a | :04:51. | :04:57.
brainy and banker. -- a banker from Bahrain. The money offered for the | :04:58. | :05:07.
club is peanuts in terms of the game. That is how desperate they are | :05:08. | :05:13.
for that kind of injection of money. There are examples all over the | :05:14. | :05:16.
place. You mentioned Portsmouth, playing in front of 15,000 at the | :05:17. | :05:21.
bottom of league two. And Bolton Wanderers, losing ?50 million last | :05:22. | :05:29.
season. Another club who paid to get into the unique and are in trouble. | :05:30. | :05:37.
Leeds United used to be in the semifinals and it hurts. I have no | :05:38. | :05:41.
affiliation to Yorkshire in semifinals and it hurts. I have no | :05:42. | :05:44.
particular but I think the Premier League could do with a Yorkshire | :05:45. | :05:48.
club. And Leeds United is the foremost club in Yorkshire. It has a | :05:49. | :05:56.
fantastic bank of supporters. You can rely on 30,000 plus. And | :05:57. | :06:01.
whatever abuse they give Robbie, they are a great bunch of fans and | :06:02. | :06:06.
they deserve better. I feel so frustrated on their behalf. But I do | :06:07. | :06:11.
not see what the future is unless there is a problem by moving in. | :06:12. | :06:22.
Let's move on to the first game this afternoon - West Brom face Liverpool | :06:23. | :06:26.
having won only once in their last 13 games. To start with the home | :06:27. | :06:36.
side, are they still trying to find some kind of rhythm, the right | :06:37. | :06:44.
formation? It is dismal at this moment. Just one win in 13 games. | :06:45. | :06:51.
They need to improve on that. They beat Liverpool three -yl on their | :06:52. | :06:58.
opening day of the season and they will need a resurrection of that | :06:59. | :07:08.
kind of form. -- 3-nil. Liverpool cut the Everton defence to shreds | :07:09. | :07:16.
with quick counterattacking. So if they are trying to find some rhythm | :07:17. | :07:20.
under Pepe Mel it will be a difficult afternoon for them. And I | :07:21. | :07:24.
think that with them will be staccato. Liverpool very much in | :07:25. | :07:29.
with game against Everton during the week. Yesterday was a good day for | :07:30. | :07:33.
them in terms of cementing fourth-place. That is right. They | :07:34. | :07:44.
can create a bit of a gap if they win today. Suarez destroyed West | :07:45. | :07:53.
Brom at Anfield before Christmas. He is in magnificent form. 22 goals. 14 | :07:54. | :08:00.
assists in eight games this season. They did not pick up any extra | :08:01. | :08:07.
injury problems. So it would not surprise me if they remain | :08:08. | :08:11.
unchanged. West Brom may just go to a back three. Keith Downing was in | :08:12. | :08:24.
caretaker charge and he used that. If Nagano plays, he does know | :08:25. | :08:34.
Suarez. But he has been found out for a lack of pace at Premiership | :08:35. | :08:41.
level. West Brom need to make changes and they do not have many | :08:42. | :08:45.
options. The Liverpool defence is not there strong point but I think | :08:46. | :08:49.
they will have too much for West Brom today. | :08:50. | :08:59.
We will let you get on. The only blip for Liverpool was the injury. | :09:00. | :09:12.
They are great in possession and a great counterattacking team as well. | :09:13. | :09:18.
Suarez, his pace over a long distance surprised me. From the | :09:19. | :09:24.
halfway line, to beat Jagielka in a race, incredible. He's the best | :09:25. | :09:28.
centre forward in the world I think at minute. What to think about their | :09:29. | :09:36.
needs from the transfer window? I think they needed extra defence. The | :09:37. | :09:41.
defence they were forced to put out the other night, Martin Skrtel and | :09:42. | :09:54.
Flanagan, they are the only options. Cissokho as a left-back, I'm not | :09:55. | :09:59.
sure what anyone sees in him. So they are vulnerable defensively. But | :10:00. | :10:05.
if West Brom go at Liverpool then I can see with Coutinho and Suarez and | :10:06. | :10:10.
storage, Liverpool counterattacking them to death. This is a day for | :10:11. | :10:16.
Liverpool. The other night was an important figure three. But given | :10:17. | :10:21.
the results yesterday, the defeat for Manchester United, Liverpool | :10:22. | :10:28.
could go nine points clear. It is a huge at noon for West Brom, given | :10:29. | :10:33.
some of the results yesterday. They are level with West Ham. West Ham | :10:34. | :10:38.
just in the bottom three on goal difference. They have slipped down | :10:39. | :10:44.
in many ways almost unnoticed. Roberto Martinez talked about Pepe | :10:45. | :10:51.
Mel, he knows him very well. And he said that is the sort of football we | :10:52. | :10:59.
can expect from West Brom, high energy, a lot of movement. But | :11:00. | :11:06.
Martin is did say it would take four or five weeks to instil that kind of | :11:07. | :11:10.
culture. Pochettino came in quite a lot earlier in the season, trying to | :11:11. | :11:17.
get that off the ground in February. I do not think that they can afford | :11:18. | :11:21.
four or five weeks, that is the problem. A Liverpool fan says, we | :11:22. | :11:29.
could possibly win the title. I do not think Liverpool can win the | :11:30. | :11:33.
title. That argument is based on the fact that aside from going to Old | :11:34. | :11:38.
Trafford, the title Ruppell's vulture all have to go to Anfield. | :11:39. | :11:44.
And Liverpool's form has been sloppy. It is asking a lot. Jumping | :11:45. | :11:55.
from seventh place into first place is too big a leap. But the top four | :11:56. | :12:03.
is possible. One text, David Moyes admits he has not got a clue. He | :12:04. | :12:07.
said yesterday I do not know why we did not win. But he is paid millions | :12:08. | :12:12.
to figure that out. It must be time to go. We can hear from David Moyes | :12:13. | :12:21.
after that defeat at Stoke. We played well today, we lost to a | :12:22. | :12:31.
wicked deflection from a free kick. And the amount of opportunities and | :12:32. | :12:35.
chances, we should have won the game. We have ourselves to blame but | :12:36. | :12:41.
it was a good performance. We just could not take both chances. You are | :12:42. | :12:49.
never satisfied when you lose but your always pleased by making | :12:50. | :12:52.
opportunities in difficult conditions. We lost the first goal | :12:53. | :13:00.
and it was ridiculous. It was a bit of a soft free kick, I felt. But | :13:01. | :13:06.
nevertheless. You lost two defenders today. We will leave it there. | :13:07. | :13:12.
Whether unlucky yesterday? A little bit. I think they deserved a point. | :13:13. | :13:19.
But the top managers, UC Mourinho doing it, David Moyes Mark Hughes at | :13:20. | :13:26.
times, I thought yesterday Stoke battled hard in terrible conditions. | :13:27. | :13:34.
Charlie Adams was exceptional. Lost a bit of weight. If Liverpool win | :13:35. | :13:42.
today, fourth-place should not be too hard to achieve. Surely a player | :13:43. | :13:52.
should be ultimate weight anyhow! If they take him aside and get him | :13:53. | :13:58.
fit, that is to their credit. A footballer should not be overweight | :13:59. | :14:03.
in the first place! It is a fair point. But there are different band | :14:04. | :14:14.
struck as. -- bone structures. I have problems with my bone | :14:15. | :14:23.
structure! Where did Manchester United go wrong yesterday? It is | :14:24. | :14:29.
partly belief, with them. It was by no means as bad as it has been for | :14:30. | :14:34.
them. The positive was they were fighting hard at the end. We have | :14:35. | :14:39.
had some anodyne finishes two games with them. But it is partly belief. | :14:40. | :14:47.
Luck can come into it but there is a loser's luck as well. You do not get | :14:48. | :14:52.
the sense with them that they have the mentality to really battle out | :14:53. | :14:58.
games like this and win through. The injuries were unlucky but there was | :14:59. | :15:04.
a sequence of them. One thing seems to lead to another. David Moyes, his | :15:05. | :15:09.
comments afterwards was so positive. The tone was all wrong. The press | :15:10. | :15:16.
Conference got off to a bad start. He was asked a question that rankled | :15:17. | :15:20.
with him and then he presented it as they did everything right. Which was | :15:21. | :15:31.
ludicrous. A text said they were like headless | :15:32. | :15:37.
change chicken, were they shapeless? Yes in the last chaotic 15 minute, | :15:38. | :15:41.
it was just, everybody rushing forward, you know, one minute Young | :15:42. | :15:45.
was on the right, then the left. I was thinking, well, that is OK, if | :15:46. | :15:52.
you are actually penetrating. But they weren't. Headless chicken, that | :15:53. | :15:55.
is a good description of the way Manchester United were at the end. | :15:56. | :16:00.
They were unlucky, you lose both central defenders, through injury, | :16:01. | :16:05.
of course that is unlucky, but David's view of their performance I | :16:06. | :16:11.
thought was absurdly rose tinted. It neglected to pay attention how well | :16:12. | :16:16.
Stoke played and I thought Charlie Adam, he was magnificent yesterday. | :16:17. | :16:21.
It wasn't just that fantastic second goal he scored, it was his | :16:22. | :16:25.
contribution all over the pitch, there was an aggression about dammed | :16:26. | :16:29.
that was lacking in Manchester United. -- Adam. I thought United | :16:30. | :16:33.
were better yesterday than they have been but there a long way off. Mata | :16:34. | :16:41.
is an expensive plaster, he maybe an expensive big plaster but it doesn't | :16:42. | :16:46.
cover the wounds. They have more world class player than Liverpool. | :16:47. | :16:51.
They have four, but the big difference between them... Mata, | :16:52. | :17:00.
Rooney and? I know what he is trying to say. Are they world class? They | :17:01. | :17:05.
haveer mo of those elite world class player, I would say, but the big | :17:06. | :17:09.
difference is than Liverpool, but Liverpool look like they believe it, | :17:10. | :17:13.
they believe they can do it. I mean, when they win game they take | :17:14. | :17:16.
incredible amount out of it. I think that is partly down to, you know, | :17:17. | :17:22.
what Rogers, he gives then. He has that ability to make them feel they | :17:23. | :17:26.
can do anything. Do they lack, as well, and Robbie you can start this, | :17:27. | :17:31.
those, I don't know, players that are fiscal, that intimidate. Alan | :17:32. | :17:37.
mentioned how Charlie Adam liked the physical stuff yesterday. United, if | :17:38. | :17:42.
Vidic isn't there, they probably have only Rooney, maybe Robin Van | :17:43. | :17:47.
Persie at a push who like to get stuck in, who like that element of | :17:48. | :17:54.
physicality. Are they too nice. The fear factor, if you take in Rooney, | :17:55. | :17:59.
Robin Van Persie, Mata out of the team, if you think it is going to be | :18:00. | :18:03.
a tough afternoon, if you a forward you look across thinking, we fancy | :18:04. | :18:08.
it today. So as Ian said, I think they have three world class players. | :18:09. | :18:22.
But... Would De Gea be? Barring one or two mistakes. It was a big | :18:23. | :18:26.
mistack at Sunderland. Fantastic result for Stoke who played as team | :18:27. | :18:31.
in difficult conditions for nearly 97 minutes one text said. Josh said | :18:32. | :18:38.
it is not time to throw in the towel with Moyes, a great manager like | :18:39. | :18:44.
Ferguson got the best out of players like cleverly. Another one says | :18:45. | :18:49.
Moyes is too cautious. On that cleverly, as you were saying, | :18:50. | :18:54.
shouldn't a player be in the right shape to play football. How can one | :18:55. | :18:59.
man inspire so somebody so much. You have won the league. Cleverly, I | :19:00. | :19:03.
don't know how so many players can be so ordinary from last year, it | :19:04. | :19:08.
has to be done to -- down to the players. You know, he is 18 years of | :19:09. | :19:14.
age, he looks terrific, but in a year's time, he could be another | :19:15. | :19:21.
Mikada, where is he now? Due respect to Birmingham, you know what I am | :19:22. | :19:25.
say, young players can look very good but let us not make them stars | :19:26. | :19:32.
overnight, because Tay are not. If think had lost yesterday they would | :19:33. | :19:35.
have been pod Tom three, they win and they are 11th. Incredible. We | :19:36. | :19:41.
will move on to the side that are at the bottom of the table. When Alan | :19:42. | :19:45.
spoke about a Yorkshire team being in the Premier League, we know Hull | :19:46. | :19:49.
are in the Premier League, in mitigating circumstance, when I went | :19:50. | :19:53.
to university there Hull was still in Humberside. I can only apologise | :19:54. | :19:57.
to Hull in East Yorkshire. Let us get that sorted and move on. Let | :19:58. | :20:03.
talks about Fulham who were busy in the transfer window and have doped | :20:04. | :20:07.
to the -- dropped to the bottom of the Premier League, beaten by | :20:08. | :20:10.
Southampton, one of the players they brought in were offensive minded, | :20:11. | :20:14.
and the problem is they are conceding too many goal, conceded 53 | :20:15. | :20:22.
so far. That is right. There was a good deconstruction of the way they | :20:23. | :20:26.
defended by, I think by Danny Murphy last night on Match of the Day. I | :20:27. | :20:32.
think it was a very very big gamble hiring Meulensteen in the first | :20:33. | :20:36.
place. I think the wrong choice honestly, you have, and I think | :20:37. | :20:38.
there is something about him, the fact he has worked with Ferguson, | :20:39. | :20:43.
there is a certain aura or idea that it is all going to have rubbed off, | :20:44. | :20:47.
but he has no experience of being in in position, so what makes us think | :20:48. | :20:52.
he is going to get them out of it? A couple of the papers in fact are | :20:53. | :20:58.
suggesting that I think the Mirror and the Sun say Alan Curbishley is | :20:59. | :21:03.
waiting in the wings to take over. I wouldn't be that cynical. He is | :21:04. | :21:07.
available, he is a candidate. I think what has happened, actually | :21:08. | :21:14.
since mull Steen has taken over should make -- Meulensteen has taken | :21:15. | :21:21.
over has shown Martin Jol was doing a good job there. They are in | :21:22. | :21:25.
trouble. As Robbie said about Stoke, from bottom three to 11th, courtesy | :21:26. | :21:30.
of a victory, it is difficult at this stage of the season to say I | :21:31. | :21:34.
think A, B and C will go down, because a couple of results, either | :21:35. | :21:39.
way can change the circumstances, look how Swansea have plummeted. Of | :21:40. | :21:45.
all of them Fulham are the ones I would feel most confident to say | :21:46. | :21:49.
that about. At the moment. Man man, Liverpool. Chelsea- Manchester | :21:50. | :21:54.
United, Liverpool, Chelsea in some of their next five games. There was | :21:55. | :22:03.
confusion about, listen, Holt by is a fantastic play e but why get rid | :22:04. | :22:08.
of centre halves and the ones that confused Danny Murphy, Aaron Hugh, | :22:09. | :22:19.
an experienced defend ersent to QPR. Senderos must be thanking his lucky | :22:20. | :22:28.
stars going to Barcelona. You can't blame them was a it was very poor. | :22:29. | :22:33.
But they are basing everything on you would suggest, on Johnny | :22:34. | :22:38.
Heitinga and Hangeland forming an understanding as their defensive | :22:39. | :22:40.
partnership from the moment Johnny Heitinga is able to play in that | :22:41. | :22:46.
team. You are. They conceded too many goals and losing Berbatov, and | :22:47. | :22:53.
that is a good thing, Monaco and Berbatov go hand in hand. What does | :22:54. | :22:58.
that mean? The lifestyle. Perfect. Great match. But can Ben score the | :22:59. | :23:04.
goals? It is going to be difficult. I agree with Ian, Fulham could go. | :23:05. | :23:09.
We are still getting texts a and tweets about Liverpool and | :23:10. | :23:12.
Manchester United going for seventh. "Even if Liverpool lose their games | :23:13. | :23:17.
against the top three they will make fourth." Guarin "Brendan Rodgers | :23:18. | :23:21.
says seventh to fourth is too big a leap. So first to seventh is too big | :23:22. | :23:28.
a fall." Let us move back to the bottom of the table. We will move on | :23:29. | :23:31.
the Cardiff who have started yesterday on the bottom. They beat | :23:32. | :23:36.
Norwich by two goals to one, despite falling behind to an early goal. Ole | :23:37. | :23:39.
Gunnar Solskjaer says the arrival of new faces at the club has come at | :23:40. | :23:45.
the perfect time. S I was hoping we would be in a | :23:46. | :23:51.
better position, given half an hour on the debut, I felt we needed | :23:52. | :23:55.
spark, the crowd needed something, and he gave even a lift, that is for | :23:56. | :24:00.
sure. Could you have hoped for any more from three debut boys? Not | :24:01. | :24:06.
really. Fabio did fantastic. Kenwyne scores a goal. Wilfred makes the | :24:07. | :24:11.
impact. The most pleasing thing is to see the form of Craig Bellamy. He | :24:12. | :24:16.
is the first player who scored for seven different clubs in Premier | :24:17. | :24:19.
League, and that is, that is something for him to take with him. | :24:20. | :24:30.
They in the bottom three, Cardiff. Their next match is the derby at | :24:31. | :24:36.
Swansea, are you more impressed with the players Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has | :24:37. | :24:42.
brought in? Yes, I am. He has brought in the enigma that is | :24:43. | :24:47.
Wilfried Zaha. Didn't get a look in at Old Trafford. I am trying to | :24:48. | :24:53.
figure out why, he wasn't properly tested there. But Ole Gunnar | :24:54. | :24:56.
Solskjaer in his first game in charge, that cup win at Newcastle | :24:57. | :25:02.
was absurdly described as a tactical genius, we will wait and see if he | :25:03. | :25:07.
is, he made a stream tactical move yesterday. Things weren't going on | :25:08. | :25:14.
early on, Mourinho-like, bringing on Wilfried Zaha, the change was | :25:15. | :25:16.
immediate. I thought he was impressive. He has good players | :25:17. | :25:20.
there. He talked about the crowd needing a lift. Craig Bellamy spoke | :25:21. | :25:26.
about how the atmosphere was, wasn't the Cardiff he knew at that ground, | :25:27. | :25:29.
in that first half. The crowd were getting on the backs of the players, | :25:30. | :25:34.
so what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did with bringing Wilfried Zaha on | :25:35. | :25:39.
changed the atmosphere. We have seen that with a few club there is a | :25:40. | :25:44.
spark, the cloud crowd need lifting, and Zaha, I degree not sure why he | :25:45. | :25:48.
hasn't been given a chance at Old Trafford. We don't know know what | :25:49. | :25:51.
happens in training or behind the scenes. David Moyes sees him every | :25:52. | :25:55.
day, so he makes the judgment. It is a great opportunity for him, go and | :25:56. | :25:58.
play in the Premier League, let us be fair, he has not played in the | :25:59. | :26:04.
Premier League. The atmosphere is dictated by their feel totion the | :26:05. | :26:08.
owner, so if it is not going well, they are not blaming the players or | :26:09. | :26:11.
the manager, whoever that is, they are thinking about the ownership of | :26:12. | :26:16.
the club. That was a classic example of a result that kind of, a lot | :26:17. | :26:22.
belies the result. Norwich battered Cardiff in the second half, Norwich | :26:23. | :26:25.
started better, on the whole, Cardiff were poor, right, I mean | :26:26. | :26:30.
Zaha, he made a big impression, but Cardiff were poor, they were very | :26:31. | :26:34.
poor in the cup at Bolton, they are another one I think, you know, they | :26:35. | :26:40.
are not a great side, you know. But Darren on the text says "Notch are | :26:41. | :26:45.
the team most likely to go down. I have backed Chris Hughton but we | :26:46. | :26:49.
failed to address our poor attack in the transfer window. The | :26:50. | :26:51.
performances have been going down hill, we should Judge them at the | :26:52. | :26:55.
end of the season. If we continue to waste chances we could be in the | :26:56. | :27:00.
Championship by then." Norwich better shield their eyes in terms of | :27:01. | :27:05.
the fixtures a the end of the season which are horrible. They are one of | :27:06. | :27:10.
a number of clubs, how many teams are involved in "The relegation | :27:11. | :27:17.
battle"? 11? 11. You would argue. If you look at the back pages this | :27:18. | :27:22.
morning, one word seems to come up quite a lot, which is squealer. | :27:23. | :27:29.
Which is being used to describe Flores and his reaction to the Andy | :27:30. | :27:35.
Carroll challenge, which is kind of, the discussion on Carroll is | :27:36. | :27:39.
dominating things than West Ham beating Swansea yesterday. As | :27:40. | :27:41.
somebody who has been known to squeal in the past, Robbie Savage, | :27:42. | :27:47.
what did you make of it? Well I did a very similar thing in the cup | :27:48. | :27:54.
final, when he caught me on migrate lock, I went down clutching me face, | :27:55. | :27:59.
I am embarrassed. I was trying to gain an advantage for my team which | :28:00. | :28:04.
didn't pay off. So when you look back, it is embarrassing as a | :28:05. | :28:08.
professional. You have done it, you try to gain advantage, dididn't | :28:09. | :28:14.
think it was a red card, it is a yellow, will it get rescinded? I am | :28:15. | :28:18.
not sure, he has swung his arm, if he catches him in the face it's a | :28:19. | :28:22.
red. I am not sure it will be rescinded. I thought it was a yellow | :28:23. | :28:26.
card. There is history there. In the game earlier this season, Flores was | :28:27. | :28:32.
rolling round, I remember doing it and you saw Sam Allardyce pointing | :28:33. | :28:36.
at him and laughing at him. So, you know, there is a history between | :28:37. | :28:43.
Flores and West Ham, but Ian, Scot says "What is the difference between | :28:44. | :28:49.
Ashley Young's Daiing and Flores's antics? " "Why will Flores get away | :28:50. | :28:59.
with play acting? No wonder referee referees struggle." I don't want to | :29:00. | :29:06.
be analytical, but... You are allowed to be analytical. If I can | :29:07. | :29:11.
use Alan as an example. It wasn't quite... I will change places with | :29:12. | :29:16.
you. It wasn't quite a natural, you know, movement of the arm and I | :29:17. | :29:20.
guess that is right. Why it might not be resended. His performance, | :29:21. | :29:28.
that is what Sam bought him for, the two knock downs were fantastic. | :29:29. | :29:35.
Cameron says "It is significant they have reignited the partnership and | :29:36. | :29:39.
that might keep them in the Premier League." Let's go to the Emirates | :29:40. | :29:50.
next. Arsenal against Crystal Palace later today. Steve Wilson is | :29:51. | :29:55.
commentating on this game at the Emirates. We can start on the | :29:56. | :30:02.
Arsenal transfer window dealings and the signing of Kim Kallstrom. What | :30:03. | :30:10.
do you know about this injury was Mac -- this injury? A little lesson | :30:11. | :30:17.
on Swedish pronunciation. Think if you have picked up a guitar for your | :30:18. | :30:28.
first ever lesson. It is Strom. He had been training with Spartak | :30:29. | :30:35.
Moscow. Arsenal got him over here. He did not get injured in training, | :30:36. | :30:40.
he has not trained with them yet. They knew he was injured at did the | :30:41. | :30:45.
medical and decided to sign him. They do not expect him to play in | :30:46. | :30:52.
February. He would not play against Liverpool or Manchester United and | :30:53. | :30:55.
at least in the first leg, would not play against Bayern Munich. So | :30:56. | :31:02.
Arsenal went into this with their eyes open. Arsenal are categorically | :31:03. | :31:07.
denying stories this morning that they are trying to pull out of the | :31:08. | :31:13.
deal and ditch Kim Kallstrom. They say they knew he was injured and | :31:14. | :31:18.
hope that he will be available in March, April and May. But they knew | :31:19. | :31:26.
that he would not say in February. Moving off that and on to Crystal | :31:27. | :31:35.
Palace and their dealings. Ledley. Hennessy. Crystal Palace fans will | :31:36. | :31:42.
say that they had a good deadline day and have a variety of players in | :31:43. | :31:49.
different positions. I think they were the big winners on Friday, | :31:50. | :31:54.
Crystal Palace. Tony Pulis and the people behind the scenes have done a | :31:55. | :31:58.
withered job. It does not quite come early enough for them perhaps today. | :31:59. | :32:03.
Hennessy is available. They signed him in time. Jason Punshon also | :32:04. | :32:10.
available. The other three, Scott Dann and Joe Ledley and Tom Ince are | :32:11. | :32:15.
not available today. That confirmation coming in the last few | :32:16. | :32:22.
minutes on Tom Ince. The confusion arises because Stephen dobby who | :32:23. | :32:27.
went to black and unknown was on the bench for them yesterday. So people | :32:28. | :32:32.
said if he is available, surely Tom Ince is available for Pallas. But | :32:33. | :32:37.
that is not the case because the Premier League and the Football | :32:38. | :32:43.
League have different deadlines. The deadline for Tom Ince was midday | :32:44. | :32:46.
yesterday and he was signed after that. He will not play for Pallas | :32:47. | :33:01.
today. -- Crystal Palace. Tony Pulis has halved the rate at which Crystal | :33:02. | :33:07.
Palace concede goals. That is a brilliant achievement. Thank you for | :33:08. | :33:16.
that. Is there a feeling, in the same way as when they went to and -- | :33:17. | :33:21.
to Manchester City, that they are in for a game this afternoon? | :33:22. | :33:30.
Technically Tony Pulis was superb. Arsenal will be in for a tough game. | :33:31. | :33:35.
But I think the quality they have got, Santi Cazorla scoring the | :33:36. | :33:42.
goals, I think they might just take it. Even when Arsenal went behind at | :33:43. | :33:48.
the Etihad they had chances to equalise. And they may have merited | :33:49. | :33:54.
a draw on that afternoon. I would not be surprised if they get a draw | :33:55. | :33:59.
today at the Emirates. I think Tony Pulis has brought the | :34:00. | :34:02.
transformation. He has made some goodbyes, it is a shame he cannot | :34:03. | :34:12.
play some of them today. -- good buys. | :34:13. | :34:27.
It is absurd of Arsenal to have taken the Swede on loan when they | :34:28. | :34:32.
know that he's not going to play for a dozen games. They needed somebody | :34:33. | :34:38.
immediately to help replace Ramsey and Wiltshire. A lot of the panel on | :34:39. | :34:46.
deadline day were trying to justify what Arsenal had done, saying they | :34:47. | :34:52.
do need midfield cover. They need someone they can bring in as cover. | :34:53. | :34:57.
But he is injured. But now the cover is not available either. And that is | :34:58. | :35:04.
where the deal looks slightly off. It is supposed to work, you have | :35:05. | :35:08.
four or five possibilities and if one falls away, you do your homework | :35:09. | :35:12.
on fitness before the actual medical. If one looks dodgy you have | :35:13. | :35:18.
others to fall back on. I could not understand why they did not do the | :35:19. | :35:22.
deal for Julian Draxler. They might go back for him in the summer. Where | :35:23. | :35:37.
down the line was Sjostrom? Whether he is the right man for them at the | :35:38. | :35:48.
moment, those questions might of been there. But it would have given | :35:49. | :35:53.
them a massive boost, especially amongst the fans. They have got an | :35:54. | :36:02.
awkward February, Arsenal. Not just the Premier League but in the | :36:03. | :36:06.
Champions League and the FA Cup tie against Liverpool. He amuses me in | :36:07. | :36:21.
the transfer market, Arsene Wenger. Nubile young and you develop the | :36:22. | :36:27.
player. But so close to making the breakthrough in the league this | :36:28. | :36:32.
year, I'm amazed that he did not get a striker, for example. We are | :36:33. | :36:43.
getting a lot of text in. David Moyes doing OK, one of them says. We | :36:44. | :36:51.
should be battling for the top four. And one says if Crystal Palace Park | :36:52. | :36:58.
the bus at the Emirates, there will come away with the points. They had | :36:59. | :37:06.
a couple of good chances to equalise, actually. Crystal Palace | :37:07. | :37:11.
are decent outfit. Talking about relegation places, on current form I | :37:12. | :37:17.
think they will stay up. Fulham and Cardiff I think I've got something | :37:18. | :37:20.
to worry about. Sunderland and Crystal Palace are trying to cut | :37:21. | :37:29.
through. One text came from someone calling themselves just, and Swede, | :37:30. | :37:37.
about the pronunciation of Kim Kallstrom. I wish he had failed his | :37:38. | :37:44.
medical! It would make my life easier. One of the games tomorrow. | :37:45. | :37:54.
City against Chelsea. The players are obviously very good. | :37:55. | :38:03.
Even with very good tyres, if the manager is not good, you do not do | :38:04. | :38:12.
it. So the manager has also to do good work. I think they have | :38:13. | :38:22.
everything and on top of that, and I want to make it clear that for me it | :38:23. | :38:26.
is just a coincidence and nothing else than a coincidence. But the | :38:27. | :38:32.
reality is that they have many crucial decisions in their favour. | :38:33. | :38:40.
We are playing at home and playing for the title also. Anything that | :38:41. | :38:46.
happened in that game is not the finish of the remedy. -- of the | :38:47. | :38:57.
Premier League. Jose Mourinho Ozma comments about West Ham and their | :38:58. | :39:01.
19th-century foot tall. How do you expect Jose Mourinho to it approach | :39:02. | :39:10.
this game? Some ink 19th-century! -- something. But it will not be enough | :39:11. | :39:17.
to keep city at Ray. That squad that they have will be too much for | :39:18. | :39:24.
them, however they try and set up. They are extraordinary. I'm thinking | :39:25. | :39:32.
about Fernandinho, for example. Someone who gets them together and | :39:33. | :39:35.
has helped turn them into a far more attacking force than they wear under | :39:36. | :39:40.
Roberto Mancini. And a more formidable one. If Bremer Fitch he | :39:41. | :39:50.
felt Mourinho was somehow a changed man. I do not think he is. Mourinho | :39:51. | :39:56.
would like nothing more than to park the bus at the Etihad tomorrow | :39:57. | :40:01.
night. Even if you dance, I expect the expansive nature of Manchester | :40:02. | :40:10.
City, albeit without Aguero, to try. One of the ways that Mourinho parks | :40:11. | :40:14.
the bus for Chelsea and also at Real Madrid, is to stifle the middle. To | :40:15. | :40:23.
play three central midfielders and stifle the middle so players cannot | :40:24. | :40:26.
go through. And then take the crosses. You cannot do that with | :40:27. | :40:34.
Manchester City. City has those full-backs. Zabaleta is a key weapon | :40:35. | :40:43.
for them going forward. So if you stifle the middle, Yaya Toure, his | :40:44. | :40:49.
runs have been rate this year. And you have Zabaleta. David Silva, he | :40:50. | :40:59.
is key. He slides those balls through and how do you mark him? You | :41:00. | :41:05.
can stifle crosses with Barcelona, they have no one who can get on the | :41:06. | :41:10.
end of the cross. Whereas Manchester City, they have plenty of people. | :41:11. | :41:20.
These games tend to turn, however you analyse it, they tend to turn on | :41:21. | :41:26.
that one moment of world-class something that you cannot really | :41:27. | :41:33.
define. David Silva is having an unbelievable season. They're all | :41:34. | :41:38.
interchangeable. Negredo gets wide as well. I cannot see them finding | :41:39. | :41:46.
just that one moment of the superlative that will unlock it. You | :41:47. | :41:50.
can tell that the other clubs are worried about city. They have | :41:51. | :41:57.
reached that stage where the other clubs are starting to gang up on | :41:58. | :42:01.
them. They are a wonderful team to watch at the moment. I love David | :42:02. | :42:10.
Silva. I would go just to watch him. But Negredo I think is a step | :42:11. | :42:18.
forward from Edin Dzeko. Talking about Mourinho parking the bus at | :42:19. | :42:24.
Arsenal or at Manchester United, I remember his inter-Milan team, they | :42:25. | :42:31.
lost a player, sent off. And they went into a 6-2-1 formation. He did | :42:32. | :42:39.
not hold his hands up after that. But that would be his natural | :42:40. | :42:45.
instinct at the Etihad. City I think one player short. -- are one player | :42:46. | :42:55.
short. The left side centre have going forward, I think are | :42:56. | :43:03.
vulnerable. To go to the next step of being real contenders for the | :43:04. | :43:07.
Champions League at that is something that needs to be looked | :43:08. | :43:12.
at. One text, no mention of three cracking goals from Southampton | :43:13. | :43:18.
players was Mac and Sunderland players saying you to them to go | :43:19. | :43:23.
down at the start of the season, have you changed your mind? They | :43:24. | :43:32.
have got a new manager. I think the manager has done great. Thank you | :43:33. | :43:40.
all for your company. Updates of West Brom against Liverpool this | :43:41. | :43:45.
afternoon on five live and full commentary, Arsenal against Crystal | :43:46. | :43:49.
Palace and Chelsea against Manchester City on five live as | :43:50. | :43:57.
well. We will see you next Sunday. Thank you for watching and | :43:58. | :43:58.
listening. Goodbye. for the rivalry that runs deeper | :43:59. | :44:03.
than any other. Because our fiercest rivals | :44:04. | :44:12.
are those who are closest. | :44:13. | :44:16. |
