Coming up, Slaven Bilic admits he's
under "big pressure" and in a "very | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56
difficult" position after West Ham
are beaten 4-1 by Liverpool. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59

The first four games today. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
Tony Husband's watching. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:54
Hello from Wembley, fortress
Wembley, I suppose, for Spurs at the | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
moment, convincing wins over
Liverpool and Real Madrid in midweek | 0:01:57 | 0:02:01
but Mauricio Pochettino has had to
make changes, no Hugo Lloris, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
Alderweireld or Dele Alli in the
match day squad and with the regular | 0:02:04 | 0:02:09
deputy Michel Vorm nursing a knee
injury, Gazzaniga makes his debut in | 0:02:09 | 0:02:14
goal for the home side. Palace, no
goals all points on the road and | 0:02:14 | 0:02:19
certainly some spirit in the fight
against West Ham last week and a big | 0:02:19 | 0:02:23
boost for Roy Hodgson, who knows the
touchline at Wembley very well, is | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
Mamadou Sakho is back. 17 minutes
played and it is goalless at | 0:02:26 | 0:02:30
Wembley. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
No Alderweireld and no lorries was
what we expected, we saw them | 0:02:32 | 0:02:36
injured against Real Madrid but Dele
Alli's injury means he is out of the | 0:02:36 | 0:02:41
England squad which might be a
painful Gareth Southgate but may be | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
no bad thing for Dele Alli and
Mauricio Pochettino as they try to | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
manage the fixture list. I think so,
Dele Alli has played a lot of | 0:02:47 | 0:02:51
football in the last two seasons.
Ultimately, you will pick up | 0:02:51 | 0:02:55
injuries and it is probably not a
bad time to have this sort of | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
injury. With the England games
coming up, it gives Gareth Southgate | 0:02:58 | 0:03:03
an opportunity to give new players,
uncapped players in opportunity to | 0:03:03 | 0:03:07
stake a claim in the squad for the
World Cup. Burnley did well at | 0:03:07 | 0:03:12
Wembley earlier this season when
they played Spurs. What was the | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
feeling in the dressing room about
what Spurs are like to play against | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
after that game? I think the whole
stigma about Wembley at the time, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:23
Spurs at Wembley, it was not really
home for them at the time and we | 0:03:23 | 0:03:27
were in a rich vein of form so we
were more concentrating on ourselves | 0:03:27 | 0:03:31
and how well we were doing. I think
as we have gone into all the games, | 0:03:31 | 0:03:36
we did not fear them, we look to
impress our game in and we did that. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:41
Wednesday night was special, it felt
like. It was. I was there. Everybody | 0:03:41 | 0:03:48
said, was Wembley going to feel like
home for Tottenham, and it certainly | 0:03:48 | 0:03:52
did on Wednesday night. It felt like
an intimidating place for Real | 0:03:52 | 0:03:57
Madrid to go. Not only did they beat
Real Madrid, back-to-back European | 0:03:57 | 0:04:02
champions, but as Zinedine Zidane
said, they were superior in all | 0:04:02 | 0:04:05
respects. I think it is probably a
result that has changed perceptions | 0:04:05 | 0:04:10
of Spurs. They still have to win a
Brophy and I think I will change | 0:04:10 | 0:04:13
perceptions more. -- win a trophy.
But it's a shame people in Europe as | 0:04:13 | 0:04:18
well as in this country that they
are on the rise and they are deemed | 0:04:18 | 0:04:21
to be taken seriously. Get in touch
with us on social media, lots of | 0:04:21 | 0:04:25
tweets already on West Ham. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:27
Jessica says village, time is up,
Mancini, Rafa or Ronald Koeman for | 0:04:27 | 0:04:34
the rest of the season, not David
Moyes. Mike says it is certainly | 0:04:34 | 0:04:38
time for change, but David Moyes is
not the man. Chris says time at but | 0:04:38 | 0:04:42
not David Moyes, failed at his last
three clubs including 20th last | 0:04:42 | 0:04:46
year, you some of the money we have
not spent to get some are different. | 0:04:46 | 0:04:50
Those are the feelings of the West
Ham fans, they want change but they | 0:04:50 | 0:04:54
don't want David Moyes. Let's hear
from the man who at the time we are | 0:04:54 | 0:04:59
speaking, is still in the job,
Slaven Bilic. The players tried, | 0:04:59 | 0:05:04
what it not working at the moment.
Lack of concentration, definitely, | 0:05:04 | 0:05:08
for a few goals. It is not the
effort and it is not the | 0:05:08 | 0:05:17
application. When you say it is not
working at the moment, what happens | 0:05:17 | 0:05:20
now with your personal situation? My
situation is very difficult coming | 0:05:20 | 0:05:24
years. I knew that before the game.
It has been for quite awhile now. It | 0:05:24 | 0:05:29
is game by game, you know, if you
have a good result, now, you ease | 0:05:29 | 0:05:34
the pressure, and if you don't, the
pressure mounts and at this moment, | 0:05:34 | 0:05:37
it is big and of course, the club is
above everyone, every individual. We | 0:05:37 | 0:05:48
will see what the club is going to
do now. Do you have to meet with the | 0:05:48 | 0:05:52
owners? Will you speak with them
tonight? I don't know, we normally | 0:05:52 | 0:05:56
speak after every game, so, it is
going to be most definitely the same | 0:05:56 | 0:06:02
after this one. As many times this
season after a defeat, he looks like | 0:06:02 | 0:06:10
a man who knows that if time is up.
I think it is very much his persona, | 0:06:10 | 0:06:16
Slaven Bilic. He is like that around
the football scene all the time. I | 0:06:16 | 0:06:21
don't think it changes, when they
are upbeat and when they are | 0:06:21 | 0:06:24
winning, it changes a bit. It goes
up a slight amount but I think that | 0:06:24 | 0:06:28
is pretty much... I read an article
about him, and he said that if his | 0:06:28 | 0:06:32
character, how he is. Clearly he's
feeling the pressure, it goes | 0:06:32 | 0:06:36
without saying, and there are
clearly a lot of things wrong there. | 0:06:36 | 0:06:39
Is he on his last legs? It sounds
like it. What interests me in that, | 0:06:39 | 0:06:46
one of the things he said was he
talked about it feeling like it was | 0:06:46 | 0:06:51
a game by game situation for him at
the moment and that can't, that | 0:06:51 | 0:06:54
can't help anyone at a football
club. I don't think it does. As you | 0:06:54 | 0:06:59
said, game by game, there's a few
games ago, saying he | 0:06:59 | 0:07:03
said, game by game, there's a few
games ago, saying he had a couple of | 0:07:03 | 0:07:03
games and he's not getting a results
he wants. It is a difficult place, | 0:07:03 | 0:07:07
West Ham, it is a difficult place to
manage, they have proved that down | 0:07:07 | 0:07:11
the years, the fans can turn quite
quickly. | 0:07:11 | 0:07:13
the years, the fans can turn quite
quickly. When you are getting the | 0:07:13 | 0:07:16
results, not playing the West Ham
way, as people say, whether they | 0:07:16 | 0:07:21
play that way you'll don't come on
the road they are conceding a lot of | 0:07:21 | 0:07:24
goals. He will find it difficult. I
wonder at times whether it is not | 0:07:24 | 0:07:29
even the West Ham | 0:07:29 | 0:07:30
wonder at times whether it is not
even the West Ham way, Oli, which is | 0:07:30 | 0:07:32
always an argument and has been one
but it is also, we have discussed | 0:07:32 | 0:07:36
this before, for some of those
players, look like you're bothered, | 0:07:36 | 0:07:40
look like you care, won't you? Every
time I have watched West Ham lately, | 0:07:40 | 0:07:47
the past 12 months, they are awful.
There are games where they worked | 0:07:47 | 0:07:53
and maybe I just don't see those
games | 0:07:53 | 0:07:55 | |
and maybe I just don't see those
games but the games where I watch 90 | 0:07:55 | 0:07:57
minutes of West Ham, they are
invariably awful. Spiritless, | 0:07:57 | 0:08:01
spineless, gutless, witless and
other such words. That end with | 0:08:01 | 0:08:10
less. You could see it coming
yesterday, it wasn't only going to | 0:08:10 | 0:08:13
be defeat but it would be
comprehensive and it could have been | 0:08:13 | 0:08:16
far more and they look like a team
of players that have given up. I | 0:08:16 | 0:08:20
know it is never the case that they
just give up but that stadium, which | 0:08:20 | 0:08:23
I think is a millstone around their
necks, the atmosphere, the | 0:08:23 | 0:08:28
negativity around Slaven Bilic, the
fact he's been undermined by the | 0:08:28 | 0:08:30
owners, I think... I know you say
not give up but sometimes when you | 0:08:30 | 0:08:36
watch them, it feels a little bit
like they give up. That may sound | 0:08:36 | 0:08:41
really hard but I think if you talk
to West Ham fans, they will say that | 0:08:41 | 0:08:45
and you can see the players, I don't
know about players that other teams | 0:08:45 | 0:08:48
but the hands go up and there is
frustrating, when they concede one, | 0:08:48 | 0:08:52
they concede another quickly. I
hated that other player and I hate | 0:08:52 | 0:08:55
watching it now, when players throw
their hands up in the end -- near. | 0:08:55 | 0:08:59
Jonathan will tell you, as a
team-mate, the last thing you want | 0:08:59 | 0:09:02
is honoured to be doing that to you,
if you play the ball. Things are | 0:09:02 | 0:09:05
really tough. The atmosphere is bad
off the pitch and on the pitch and | 0:09:05 | 0:09:09
the minute you make a mistake and
you have your team-mate, who within | 0:09:09 | 0:09:12
your inner sanctum, part of your
group, criticising you openly, it | 0:09:12 | 0:09:16
takes a particular character to be
one that can actually handle it and | 0:09:16 | 0:09:19
take it on the chin and say, "You
know what? We have to pull together. | 0:09:19 | 0:09:23
You make a mistake, fine, let's get
on with it, don't put drums up and | 0:09:23 | 0:09:28
blame everyone else". I go with that
100%. But the West Ham players, what | 0:09:28 | 0:09:34
players are they trying to sign?
They attract a certain type of | 0:09:34 | 0:09:37
player as well, paying big wages,
picking up players that have maybe | 0:09:37 | 0:09:41
taken a step down from a bigger
club, top four, top six club, so you | 0:09:41 | 0:09:47
are paying big wages but there's a
reason they left those bigger clubs. | 0:09:47 | 0:09:51
So when you say, not trying,
gutless, there's a reason why they | 0:09:51 | 0:09:56
left those big clubs, because
they've got the talent so when you | 0:09:56 | 0:09:59
go to a team like West Ham and it's
not going well, do they have the | 0:09:59 | 0:10:04
grit to get the results they need?
I'm not singling out individuals but | 0:10:04 | 0:10:09
did you raise eyebrows when they
paid over £20 million for Arnautovic | 0:10:09 | 0:10:13
who was a team-mate of yours at
Stoke? He could turn it on last | 0:10:13 | 0:10:19
year, the past couple of years, turn
it on and when he's on it, he is on | 0:10:19 | 0:10:25
it but how many games did he do it
during the course of the season and | 0:10:25 | 0:10:29
would he do the other side of it was
an issue with him? And could he do | 0:10:29 | 0:10:32
it consistently. For me, it was
probably a good deal. But then | 0:10:32 | 0:10:36
again, it was probably a step up for
him, probably doubling his wages or | 0:10:36 | 0:10:43
whatever he is on now he's there. He
had to step up but has he done it? | 0:10:43 | 0:10:48
You would say that he hasn't. But
when he is on it, he is on it but | 0:10:48 | 0:10:53
that seems the type of player they
have got other club when things | 0:10:53 | 0:10:56
aren't going away, -- at the club
and when things aren't going their | 0:10:56 | 0:11:01
way, yet, they won't be digging in,
I wouldn't say. Going back to | 0:11:01 | 0:11:05
character, you need a certain type
of character who can take it on | 0:11:05 | 0:11:09
board, take the added responsibility
and actually try to lift your | 0:11:09 | 0:11:12
players around you and be capable of
saying, "You know what? I'll make | 0:11:12 | 0:11:17
mistakes but I'm not going to let my
head go down or give up or give the | 0:11:17 | 0:11:22
perception on giving up". I don't
imagine any of the players are | 0:11:22 | 0:11:25
giving up, it is just the
perception. The early game in the | 0:11:25 | 0:11:31
Championship, Middlesbrough already
a goal up and Sunderland missed a | 0:11:31 | 0:11:34
chance at one end and Middlesbrough
went down the other end to score so | 0:11:34 | 0:11:37
they are 1-0 up. Still goalless at
Wembley. We understand West Ham are | 0:11:37 | 0:11:43
reviewing Slaven Bilic's position at
the moment. His future will be | 0:11:43 | 0:11:47
decided in the next 48 hours but we
also understand that talks are | 0:11:47 | 0:11:50
underway with David Moyes. As a
possible replacement, which looking | 0:11:50 | 0:11:56
at the text messages and tweets that
have come in and you have been | 0:11:56 | 0:11:59
looking at social media, which is a
naturally negative place as well, | 0:11:59 | 0:12:02
that is the last person, one of the
last people they want, judging by | 0:12:02 | 0:12:05
what West Ham fans are saying. Well,
people can look at David Moyes and | 0:12:05 | 0:12:11
the past four years of his career,
which have been a disaster Rob Lee | 0:12:11 | 0:12:15
from his point of view. I don't
think I'm being unkind to him if I | 0:12:15 | 0:12:20
say that, Manchester United went as
badly as it could have done, real | 0:12:20 | 0:12:23
Sociedad was clearly not a good
career move, given he went there | 0:12:23 | 0:12:26
without the language and Sunderland
I think was a club, was relegation | 0:12:26 | 0:12:30
waiting to happen and he was not
able to lift the gloom which if | 0:12:30 | 0:12:33
anything deepened when he was there.
This will be a similar kind of job | 0:12:33 | 0:12:36
if he goes there, lifting the gloom,
energising a place. Now, he can do | 0:12:36 | 0:12:42
that, that is exactly what he did at
Everton 15 years ago. He is the same | 0:12:42 | 0:12:46
guy, the same manager but whether
these past four years mean that he | 0:12:46 | 0:12:51
would then come with the baggage...
Do you think he is the... Only David | 0:12:51 | 0:12:56
would be able to do that but do you
think he is the same guy, the same | 0:12:56 | 0:13:00
manager? I expect so, there has to
be the question in terms of, I | 0:13:00 | 0:13:05
remember seeing him towards the end
of last season at Sunderland, and he | 0:13:05 | 0:13:08
really looked like the weight of the
world on his shoulders and I think | 0:13:08 | 0:13:14
when he is feeling pressure, you
know, you can see it, he does not | 0:13:14 | 0:13:18
hide it well but he's had a break.
West Ham are required which need a | 0:13:18 | 0:13:24
new start. -- are a club which need.
It is a question of whether part of | 0:13:24 | 0:13:30
it... If he's being interviewed and
comes across as someone who is | 0:13:30 | 0:13:33
pessimistic or negative or is
saying, "It is going to be tough", | 0:13:33 | 0:13:37
maybe he is not the person for it
but if it is the David Moyes who is | 0:13:37 | 0:13:41
looking refreshed and like he could
energise it, it might be a good | 0:13:41 | 0:13:46
idea. So what does he say before
they kick Open -- kick a ball? "We | 0:13:46 | 0:13:56
Are in a relegation fight?" He will
have to say that and it's later in | 0:13:56 | 0:14:00
the season than when he took over at
Sunderland. It's difficult, and for | 0:14:00 | 0:14:03
anyone when you sign, player or
manager, people will always | 0:14:03 | 0:14:07
criticise you and won't be happy
with it, as players you had it and | 0:14:07 | 0:14:11
as a manager, it is no different, | 0:14:11 | 0:14:13
with it, as players you had it
and as a manager, it | 0:14:13 | 0:14:16
obviously, talking about David Moyes | 0:14:16 | 0:14:17
it is no different, obviously,
talking about David | 0:14:17 | 0:14:19
' | 0:14:19 | 0:14:19 | |
' record since he left Everton, it
has been Paul Wood is not to say he | 0:14:19 | 0:14:22
is not a good manager. | 0:14:22 | 0:14:23
has been Paul Wood is not to say he
is not a good manager. Whatever has | 0:14:23 | 0:14:24
happened in the past is in the past
and it's up to him to prove the | 0:14:24 | 0:14:27
critics | 0:14:27 | 0:14:27
Is West Ham the right job for him,
he would say 100%, only time will | 0:14:27 | 0:14:30
tell whether or not he is effective
enough to help West Ham progress and | 0:14:30 | 0:14:33
get themselves out of the bidding
and they are in. | 0:14:33 | 0:14:35
At 2.15pm, the leaders
Manchester City play | 0:14:35 | 0:14:37
Arsenal at the Etihad. | 0:14:37 | 0:14:38
Jonathan Pearce is commentating
on the game for Match of the Day 2. | 0:14:38 | 0:14:46
Let me ask you a question on West
Ham, we have spoken a lot about West | 0:14:46 | 0:14:51
Ham over the years, what kind of
manager do you think they need at | 0:14:51 | 0:14:55
the moment? I think they need a
manager to keep them in the Premier | 0:14:55 | 0:14:59
League, two win over the fans very
quickly, they are unique fans in | 0:14:59 | 0:15:05
many ways. They like to see
attractive football, they are not | 0:15:05 | 0:15:09
seeing it at the moment. They need a
manager to get the players fit. They | 0:15:09 | 0:15:14
have not bought into Slaven Bilic
over recent weeks, he has looked a | 0:15:14 | 0:15:18
beaten man. They need a positive
manager. I have been listening to | 0:15:18 | 0:15:23
the boys in the studio, it is very
important David comes in with a | 0:15:23 | 0:15:27
positive frame of mind. Any manager
after Ferguson would have struggled. | 0:15:27 | 0:15:34
Let us judge him on his previous
Everton record. He is a good coach, | 0:15:34 | 0:15:38
good manager, but the West Ham fans
need a manager to win a couple of | 0:15:38 | 0:15:44
home games in a good style. Speaking
of style, how do you expect Arsenal | 0:15:44 | 0:15:49
to approach this this afternoon? How
do you take on Manchester City at | 0:15:49 | 0:15:56
the moment? 14 wins in a row. They
came here a couple of years ago and | 0:15:56 | 0:16:00
did a job. They have not got the
personnel to do that now. The back | 0:16:00 | 0:16:06
three, people have worked him out,
Francis Cocker land. He has not | 0:16:06 | 0:16:10
progressed. They are more resilient
this season, beyond the terrible | 0:16:10 | 0:16:17
performance against Liverpool. I
think they have to attack. | 0:16:17 | 0:16:21
Manchester City can shred any team.
Arsenal cannot sit back and hope, | 0:16:21 | 0:16:26
Sanchez, massive game for him.
Nearly moved to Manchester City in | 0:16:26 | 0:16:30
the summer, he wanted to come here.
If he is hungry, if Mesut Ozil is | 0:16:30 | 0:16:37
hungry, maybe they can stop
Manchester City. The most glorious | 0:16:37 | 0:16:41
attacking football side, to have
this long a run that I can remember, | 0:16:41 | 0:16:45
I have been doing this job a long
time. They went to Napoli and they | 0:16:45 | 0:16:57
were outstanding. That was got lost
because of Spurs and how they did | 0:16:57 | 0:17:01
against Real Madrid. They went to
Napoli and put four past them, | 0:17:01 | 0:17:06
Sergio Aguero broke the club's
goal-scoring record, it should make | 0:17:06 | 0:17:12
Europe a notice. A special guard of
honour today here as well. Members | 0:17:12 | 0:17:18
of the England's World Cup success
last week, they will be welcoming | 0:17:18 | 0:17:24
him onto the pitch, creating another
record last week at West Brom, | 0:17:24 | 0:17:28
number of passes in the Premier
League since records began. Pep | 0:17:28 | 0:17:32
Guardiola has not done in the easy
way. It is not just getting | 0:17:32 | 0:17:37
full-backs coming forward, it is
getting them coming inside, | 0:17:37 | 0:17:40
old-fashioned. Different sort of
game to learn at this stage in their | 0:17:40 | 0:17:44
career, so simple in one way,
intricate and another. People said | 0:17:44 | 0:17:52
it was glorious when he was at
Barcelona. This is something | 0:17:52 | 0:17:56
special. I do a lot of work in
European football, a lot of people | 0:17:56 | 0:18:01
on the European scene, yes, they are
saying Tottenham are fantastic, but | 0:18:01 | 0:18:05
the team they are talking about to
win the Champions League this season | 0:18:05 | 0:18:08
from England, Manchester City. Thank
you. Jonathan Pearce doing the game | 0:18:08 | 0:18:15
for Match of the Day 2 later on.
Think they can win the Champions | 0:18:15 | 0:18:19
League? It is wide open. On current
form, you would think they can win | 0:18:19 | 0:18:25
anything but we are only ten games
into the season, a long way to go. | 0:18:25 | 0:18:32
At the moment, they cannot do
anything more than what they are | 0:18:32 | 0:18:36
doing. They are definitely the team
to beat. You wrote this week that | 0:18:36 | 0:18:41
Pep Guardiola is a magician. What
did you mean by that and were you | 0:18:41 | 0:18:46
surprised at the response to the
article? The largely negative | 0:18:46 | 0:18:50
response? Yeah. A strange thing with
Pep Guardiola, people in this | 0:18:50 | 0:18:57
country think he got lucky because
he inherited Messi at Barcelona, got | 0:18:57 | 0:19:03
lucky because he went to Bayern
Munich, got lucky to go to Man City. | 0:19:03 | 0:19:09
I agree with people when they say,
we do not know how good he would be | 0:19:09 | 0:19:13
with a lesser club. His style is
suited to a particular type of | 0:19:13 | 0:19:20
player which is an elite player, not
just in terms of technique, but | 0:19:20 | 0:19:25
intelligence as well. When people
say, would he be able to do it at | 0:19:25 | 0:19:29
this club? Those are legitimate
questions. But what he is doing is | 0:19:29 | 0:19:34
absolutely fantastic. As Jonathan
said, it is not just the results, | 0:19:34 | 0:19:39
the numbers, the number of passes,
goals, points, it is the way... | 0:19:39 | 0:19:46
Nothing like the obvious way of
spending £200 million. He has not | 0:19:46 | 0:19:54
done what Jose Mourinho did. He has
bought expensive full-backs that | 0:19:54 | 0:20:00
everyone said were overpriced, he
bought Jesus and Sane. Everybody | 0:20:00 | 0:20:08
thought they will need time. How
will they go with Sergio Aguero? He | 0:20:08 | 0:20:13
has got Kevin De Bruyne in central
midfield. Far from the obvious. What | 0:20:13 | 0:20:20
he is producing, what the team are
producing, it is fantastic. I think | 0:20:20 | 0:20:24
that point on the far from doing the
obvious, quite interesting. Several | 0:20:24 | 0:20:29
of those players that you mentioned,
the same happened at Barcelona and | 0:20:29 | 0:20:34
Bayern Munich, you can see players
improving under him. You can see his | 0:20:34 | 0:20:40
coaching, whatever they have spent,
you can see the coaching effect. I | 0:20:40 | 0:20:44
am guessing in your career the
managers you have most enjoyed | 0:20:44 | 0:20:47
playing for are the ones that have
improved you as a footballer? | 0:20:47 | 0:20:52
Definitely. When he came in last
year and he started very well as | 0:20:52 | 0:20:56
well and a lot of people were happy
he failed because people were | 0:20:56 | 0:20:59
saying, as you have said, he was
lucky with the teams he has got, not | 0:20:59 | 0:21:05
built himself up. He is therefore a
recent and he has won for a reason. | 0:21:05 | 0:21:10
When he is at the club, maybe not
the first year, give him a few | 0:21:10 | 0:21:15
transfer windows, let him coach and
build the team, that is what he has | 0:21:15 | 0:21:19
done. Not so much about the passing.
You can have 80% possession, does | 0:21:19 | 0:21:25
not matter, it is how they use the
ball, constantly probed, Sergio | 0:21:25 | 0:21:29
Aguero always threatening, the
interchange in midfield, the | 0:21:29 | 0:21:34
full-backs... It is not a standard
formation they play. Very hard to | 0:21:34 | 0:21:38
play against. As you said, it looks
like everyone is improving under | 0:21:38 | 0:21:42
him. When we talked about Burnley at
Burns, you concentrate on your own, | 0:21:42 | 0:21:47
you talk about your own
performances, but when you played | 0:21:47 | 0:21:52
City, a penalty that gave them the
lead, at the end of the game, are | 0:21:52 | 0:21:56
you more mentally exhausted than
against any other team? Yeah, when | 0:21:56 | 0:22:00
you play against a team like City, a
lot of the time you up in your own | 0:22:00 | 0:22:05
18-yard box defending, as a striker,
it is constant concentration. That | 0:22:05 | 0:22:13
is the Premier League, but more with
City. They pass it to drag someone | 0:22:13 | 0:22:18
out to exploit the gap you have
left, it is constant through 90 | 0:22:18 | 0:22:23
minutes. You are right, you come off
mentally exhausted. I think he is | 0:22:23 | 0:22:27
taking his time and he has admitted
that. You could argue throughout the | 0:22:27 | 0:22:35
team there have been, I think,
marginal improvements in some | 0:22:35 | 0:22:38
players last season, some have stood
still. This season, he has spent a | 0:22:38 | 0:22:45
lot of money, brought in players,
and they are playing the most | 0:22:45 | 0:22:50
attractive and the best football on
the planet. I have spoken to Kevin | 0:22:50 | 0:22:55
De Bruyne and Vincent Kompany off
record quietly about him gully them | 0:22:55 | 0:23:00
and they cannot say enough about Pep
Guardiola -- about him. They say he | 0:23:00 | 0:23:05
is phenomenal, the best they have
worked with. Best they have ever | 0:23:05 | 0:23:09
seen. And that he is something
special. Because of how he improves | 0:23:09 | 0:23:13
them? The way he wants to play. They
feel there is an enormous amount of | 0:23:13 | 0:23:18
improvement they will make under
him. When I spoke especially to | 0:23:18 | 0:23:22
Kevin, it was at the end of last
season when I spoke to him and he | 0:23:22 | 0:23:29
said that already, tactically, the
way he has the players playing or | 0:23:29 | 0:23:33
the way he wants them to play,
communication with them, it was the | 0:23:33 | 0:23:37
best. He obviously bought into it
completely which is obvious. You | 0:23:37 | 0:23:41
still get a lot of people think he
has the best players. If you asked a | 0:23:41 | 0:23:45
Man United fan, do a combined team
of Manchester City, Manchester | 0:23:45 | 0:23:52
United, it would be full of Man
United players. Those players | 0:23:52 | 0:23:57
reputation me, Raheem Sterling, half
of the country seems to think Raheem | 0:23:57 | 0:24:03
Sterling is useless, he is far from
useless. John Stones, Raheem | 0:24:03 | 0:24:07
Sterling, playing out of their skin,
Fernandinho, look to be fading, | 0:24:07 | 0:24:15
David Silva, looked to be fading,
new lease of life now. It is not | 0:24:15 | 0:24:19
just the number of goals, if you
look at the quality of the goals, I | 0:24:19 | 0:24:23
know you do not get extra points for
nice goals, but they are Barcelona | 0:24:23 | 0:24:28
type goals they are scoring, lovely
little interchanges, unselfish in to | 0:24:28 | 0:24:33
cut loose. These are goals we felt
in the past but only Barcelona | 0:24:33 | 0:24:39
score. If you are a fan and you
could choose to watch majesty and or | 0:24:39 | 0:24:46
City? It is entertainment as well --
you could choose Manchester United | 0:24:46 | 0:24:53
or city? If you are going to watch
them, you would enjoy watching them | 0:24:53 | 0:24:56
and you would want to see how they
play and use the ball. That is the | 0:24:56 | 0:25:02
way it is. Probably best asking
social media this afternoon! | 0:25:02 | 0:25:08
#bbcfootball if you want to get in
touch. We will | 0:25:08 | 0:25:12
go back to Wembley in a moment.
Arsene Wenger said we have an | 0:25:12 | 0:25:16
opportunity to show we can deal with
these games and I am sure we can, we | 0:25:16 | 0:25:20
will not hide, the best way to
defend sometimes is to attack. Can | 0:25:20 | 0:25:24
they get something out of this? Of
course they can. Arsenal have to | 0:25:24 | 0:25:30
press high. They have pace. Can they
deal with the likes of what City | 0:25:30 | 0:25:41
have upfront? Only time will tell.
They have got the pace to play a | 0:25:41 | 0:25:45
higher line, they cannot allow City
to come on then, they have to put | 0:25:45 | 0:25:50
them under pressure. Early on.
Engage with them further up the | 0:25:50 | 0:25:53
pitch. Forced the errors. Use Mesut
Ozil, Sanchez, Alexandre Lacazette, | 0:25:53 | 0:25:58
to expose them. | 0:25:58 | 0:26:05
Tony Husband has had the better
opportunities. I would say Crystal | 0:26:05 | 0:26:08
Palace have had the best chance but
they are conceding most possession. | 0:26:08 | 0:26:15
No surprise there. There are waves
of white shirts coming at them. | 0:26:15 | 0:26:19
Spurs have not created a lot. Rose
with a misplaced header. Harry Kane | 0:26:19 | 0:26:24
from close range as well. Best
chance the Crystal Palace. An | 0:26:24 | 0:26:28
opportunity deflected! Scott Dann
has had the best opportunity of a | 0:26:28 | 0:26:35
largely quiet first half, a header
saved by Gazzaniga from the Crystal | 0:26:35 | 0:26:41
Palace corner. Approaching
half-time, still 0-0 at Wembley. | 0:26:41 | 0:26:46
There are always managers under
pressure, but after yesterday, | 0:26:46 | 0:26:50
Slaven Bilic, Tony Pulis, Paul
Clement at Swansea as well, several | 0:26:50 | 0:26:57
under pressure. Whereas normally we
would say, it is a little bit | 0:26:57 | 0:27:01
unfair, do you think it is right
they are under pressure at the | 0:27:01 | 0:27:05
moment, given how the clubs are
performing? Paul Clement went in at | 0:27:05 | 0:27:09
Swansea and did an excellent job,
January of last year, remarkable | 0:27:09 | 0:27:14
turnaround. Somewhat under looked at
the time. This season, it looks like | 0:27:14 | 0:27:24
it is a different challenge
altogether. Looks like he needs to | 0:27:24 | 0:27:28
find a new trick. West Brom, Isil
Sam Allardyce on Match of the Day | 0:27:28 | 0:27:32
last night and he was saying, with
Tony Pulis, you stay up. -- eye | 0:27:32 | 0:27:37
sore. It might be a stick or twist
situation. The fans might think, | 0:27:37 | 0:27:45
twist, something more exciting. If
you win just two of your last 20 | 0:27:45 | 0:27:50
Premier League games, if you
continue that form, you are going | 0:27:50 | 0:27:55
down. I agree, but I thought they
started the season off looking | 0:27:55 | 0:27:59
promising. It seems like they have
had a bad month, a bad six weeks. | 0:27:59 | 0:28:08
You might say, a bad six months,
eight months. I do not think they | 0:28:08 | 0:28:13
will go down. That might be a very
negative way of looking at it, but I | 0:28:13 | 0:28:19
think they will be taking more of a
risk if they went for a more | 0:28:19 | 0:28:23
exciting younger manager who would
open West Brom up. Let us hear from | 0:28:23 | 0:28:30
Tony Pulis. His comments after this
defeat at Huddersfield yesterday. I | 0:28:30 | 0:28:38
am disappointed professionally. It
hurts to go such a long time without | 0:28:38 | 0:28:42
winning a game. Things conspire
against you at times and you do not | 0:28:42 | 0:28:47
get the breaks and things do not go
for you. As I have said, I'm strong | 0:28:47 | 0:28:51
enough and old enough to resist it.
Need the players. I worry about the | 0:28:51 | 0:28:56
players more than anything else. You
don't worry about outside criticism? | 0:28:56 | 0:29:00
No. I have been here too long to
listen to outside criticism. The big | 0:29:00 | 0:29:06
thing is that you have a belief in
yourself. This football club, I have | 0:29:06 | 0:29:11
been here nearly three years, | 0:29:11 | 0:29:22
when I took over, it was in poor
condition, it is better now, better | 0:29:25 | 0:29:28
placed than what we were, and we
have gradually got better and | 0:29:28 | 0:29:30
better. The first bump we have had.
You have to accept, irrespective of | 0:29:30 | 0:29:32
what you have done before, nobody
cares about that, it is what you do | 0:29:32 | 0:29:35
now that counts. Tom Harper, with a
run of form like this since Arsenal | 0:29:35 | 0:29:38
in March, Tony Pulis is lucky to be
in with the job. If you cannot keep | 0:29:38 | 0:29:42
clean sheets with nine defensive
plays, no point. Gordon, if they | 0:29:42 | 0:29:49
sacked him, that answers your
question... In the bigger picture, | 0:29:49 | 0:29:55
he touched on it there, good enough
to keep them up, do you find it | 0:29:55 | 0:29:59
quite depressing, a lot of clubs
might be looking at somebody who | 0:29:59 | 0:30:03
will keep them up, rather than being
a bit more ambitious and | 0:30:03 | 0:30:08
entertaining? It goes to show how
important it is to stay in the lead, | 0:30:08 | 0:30:13
the financial repercussions of
relegation. Is this a league at the | 0:30:13 | 0:30:17
moment that is must not lose rather
than a must win? | 0:30:17 | 0:30:24
For the vast majority, it seems yes,
I think it is a case of survival for | 0:30:24 | 0:30:29
over half of the teams in the league
because of the financial | 0:30:29 | 0:30:33
repercussions. I think the
development of the club, and what | 0:30:33 | 0:30:35
they will say, they will | 0:30:35 | 0:30:37
development of the club, and what
they will say, they will look at any | 0:30:37 | 0:30:37
club, whether it is West Ham, says
Slaven Bilic loses his job and | 0:30:37 | 0:30:41
whoever comes in, if it is a
short-term appointment until the end | 0:30:41 | 0:30:44
of the season, it is purely on the
basis to keep them in the league, | 0:30:44 | 0:30:47
then they will reassess, either
off-season or preseason, to go, "OK, | 0:30:47 | 0:30:53
we've reassessed, we've got to bring
in the right manager, the right | 0:30:53 | 0:30:56
players and take the step forward so
we are no longer fighting and | 0:30:56 | 0:30:59
scrapping to stay in the league and
then start to look. | 0:30:59 | 0:31:01
scrapping to stay in the league and
then start to look. It | 0:31:01 | 0:31:03
scrapping to stay in the league and
then start to look. It is a gradual | 0:31:03 | 0:31:03
progression. | 0:31:03 | 0:31:03
then start to look. It is a gradual
progression. If you look at West | 0:31:03 | 0:31:05
Brom as an example, Tony Pulis is an
excellent manager, you can argue all | 0:31:05 | 0:31:08
day long about the style of football
that he plays and at times it is | 0:31:08 | 0:31:11
boring but there's a lot of teams
out there that do that as well every | 0:31:11 | 0:31:17
now and again. He gets the results
time and again. He creates stability | 0:31:17 | 0:31:20
in the club. Fans over a period of
time get bored with it, almost, they | 0:31:20 | 0:31:23
get sick and tired of it, they would
almost sometimes rather have the | 0:31:23 | 0:31:28
highs and lows relegation and
surviving on the last day of the | 0:31:28 | 0:31:32
season as opposed to having that
consistency and staying up, what | 0:31:32 | 0:31:37
were they, eight or nine games
before the end of the season they | 0:31:37 | 0:31:40
were staying up, and for West Brom,
that is an incredible achievement. I | 0:31:40 | 0:31:46
find there are not that many really
entertaining games at the moment but | 0:31:46 | 0:31:50
then is it easier said than done to
be entertaining in a Premier League? | 0:31:50 | 0:31:53
Is it easy for me to sit on my
settee with my crisps and my beer | 0:31:53 | 0:31:57
like a fat man, going, "Go on then,
professional players, entertain me". | 0:31:57 | 0:32:04
It is an entertainment sport
although it is a business and as a | 0:32:04 | 0:32:06
club owner, what do you want? You
want to stay in the Prem you league. | 0:32:06 | 0:32:10
The way the gap has grown as well,
the way the money is going in | 0:32:10 | 0:32:14
football, it is only going one way
so you want a manager who is keeping | 0:32:14 | 0:32:18
you in the league. West Brom fans
need to be careful what they wish | 0:32:18 | 0:32:22
for because not too long ago, they
were a yo-yo club. He is the kind of | 0:32:22 | 0:32:28
man, Izzy, that he won't let it
bother him, the criticism? No, he | 0:32:28 | 0:32:33
does not bother with social media.
No! He is too long in the tooth and | 0:32:33 | 0:32:39
it won't bother him one bit. Is
eager to play for? Yeah, I enjoyed | 0:32:39 | 0:32:46
it. He looks after people, like a
father figure? We were always the | 0:32:46 | 0:32:51
underdogs, similar at West Brom, so
it was all with a battle, whoever | 0:32:51 | 0:32:54
you are planning against, no one
liked playing off at Stoke at the | 0:32:54 | 0:32:57
time. You ask any player and nobody
like I didn't. You used to run into | 0:32:57 | 0:33:03
me all the time and go, bang!
Jonathan Boyd absolutely hammer you. | 0:33:03 | 0:33:08
I got him once, actually. That's
entertainment, I like that! It is | 0:33:08 | 0:33:16
what you want, isn't it? Be careful
what you wish for because what do | 0:33:16 | 0:33:21
West Ham want now? They want a
manager to come in and keep them up. | 0:33:21 | 0:33:25
The manager will come in and get
results and what will they want | 0:33:25 | 0:33:28
then? Entertainment and then they
will be struggling, and then they | 0:33:28 | 0:33:32
will get rid of the manager. Who is
an ideal manager for West Ham now? | 0:33:32 | 0:33:36
It would be Sam Allardyce, for me.
What happened with Sam Allardyce at | 0:33:36 | 0:33:40
West Ham? They wanted him out. Let
me throw someone in that was | 0:33:40 | 0:33:45
suggested, it is half-time at
Wembley, goals, we will gather in a | 0:33:45 | 0:33:48
moment but they said, "Why not
Brendan Rodgers for West Ham?" Why | 0:33:48 | 0:33:53
would Brendan Rodgers go to West
Ham, seriously? Dave did not say | 0:33:53 | 0:34:04
why, I don't know. Brendan Rodgers
is that Celtic, doing brilliantly, | 0:34:04 | 0:34:06
almost halfway through his second
season and he's not lost, people | 0:34:06 | 0:34:08
will say it is only Scotland but
this is not the norm for managers in | 0:34:08 | 0:34:11
Scotland, they will probably... They
will probably going into the Europa | 0:34:11 | 0:34:14
League and they will have a good
run, and if Brendan Rodgers is | 0:34:14 | 0:34:19
looking beyond Celtic, it is bigger
than West Ham. I know West Ham fans | 0:34:19 | 0:34:23
will say that West Ham are bigger
than Celtic, they've got more money, | 0:34:23 | 0:34:25
currently at Brendan Rodgers, having
had probably one bad season in his | 0:34:25 | 0:34:31
career, for which he is remembered,
should be, if he is looking beyond | 0:34:31 | 0:34:37
Celtic, should be looking at bigger
job than West Ham because West Ham | 0:34:37 | 0:34:40
is a relegation fight. People said
Benitez earlier, why would he | 0:34:40 | 0:34:44
swapped Newcastle for allegation
fight at West Ham? It's not a good | 0:34:44 | 0:34:47
job at the moment. May be why
wouldn't they consider Brendan | 0:34:47 | 0:34:51
Rodgers? They should but he should
say no. Because he's in Scotland. He | 0:34:51 | 0:34:56
would be perfect for Everton for a
variety of reasons -- but for a | 0:34:56 | 0:35:00
variety of reasons, the Liverpool
stigma, the fact he is otherwise | 0:35:00 | 0:35:04
engaged at Celtic, that won't happen
but he would be ideal for any club | 0:35:04 | 0:35:08
who was thinking, well, let's be
more, let's survive and then do | 0:35:08 | 0:35:13
more. He should have bigger fish to
fry, though. But is it a case that | 0:35:13 | 0:35:19
he's almost scarred from his
Liverpool experience? He needs time | 0:35:19 | 0:35:23
away to regain his confidence, which
obviously, he clearly has. He's at | 0:35:23 | 0:35:27
Celtic where he can do no wrong. But
the big question is, over a period | 0:35:27 | 0:35:31
of time, it gets to the point where
you have dominated everything, he | 0:35:31 | 0:35:36
has won everything, European
football, they cannot compete at the | 0:35:36 | 0:35:39
Champions League level, they have
shown it time and they just can't so | 0:35:39 | 0:35:43
the next challenge for him is to
come back and managed in the biggest | 0:35:43 | 0:35:46
leading the the perennially. Is --
in the Premier League. Is West Ham | 0:35:46 | 0:35:53
bigger than Celtic? It probably
isn't in terms of like-for-like but | 0:35:53 | 0:35:57
in terms of where they are playing,
it is the Premier League, the | 0:35:57 | 0:36:00
hardest league to manage and playing
in the world. Don't forget, he | 0:36:00 | 0:36:05
nearly won the league with
Liverpool. Absolutely. I'm enjoying | 0:36:05 | 0:36:10
being part of the back they missed
out on that. Are the three of you | 0:36:10 | 0:36:16
trying to alienate every Premier
League van at some point? Let's go | 0:36:16 | 0:36:21
to me, half-time between Spurs and
Crystal Palace, as Tony husband been | 0:36:21 | 0:36:25
entertained? I was listening to you
talking about the crisps and beer | 0:36:25 | 0:36:28
and watching entertaining football
on the side bar, and I was thinking | 0:36:28 | 0:36:31
this is not one of those games for
entertainment, largely uninspiring | 0:36:31 | 0:36:35
first half but Roy Hodgson will
probably be quite happy because his | 0:36:35 | 0:36:39
side have defended solidly, broken
with pace and Wilfried Zaha has been | 0:36:39 | 0:36:41
a threat and Scott Dann forced the
only real save our behalf, the | 0:36:41 | 0:36:45
debited keeper Gazzaniga keeping his
head out from a corner. Tottenham | 0:36:45 | 0:36:49
without the injured Dele Alli, not
quite on it, Rose and Kane with | 0:36:49 | 0:36:54
headers of target after the Lord
may's show, I fear. | 0:36:54 | 0:37:02
Time to talk a quick bit of Burnley.
Is this one of the best squads you | 0:37:02 | 0:37:06
have been in in terms of character
as well as ability? It is quite | 0:37:06 | 0:37:11
similar to the Stoke squad when I
first joined. Similar mentality, | 0:37:11 | 0:37:15
similar type of player. And a
similar way of approaching every | 0:37:15 | 0:37:22
game. It is quite similar.
Obviously, they have come up and | 0:37:22 | 0:37:26
stayed up, a big test for the team,
for me, is not the first year in the | 0:37:26 | 0:37:32
Premier League, it is the second,
when teams are used to you and the | 0:37:32 | 0:37:35
players get a bit of an ego and
think they have almost made it, | 0:37:35 | 0:37:39
they've done it, you know, they've
achieved staying in the Premier | 0:37:39 | 0:37:43
League from the Championship and the
big test is the second season. We | 0:37:43 | 0:37:45
have started really well. It is only
early days. Plenty of teams we have | 0:37:45 | 0:37:50
seen that have done really well by
November, look at Hull a few | 0:37:50 | 0:37:53
seen that have done really well by
November, look at Hull a few years | 0:37:53 | 0:37:54
back and suddenly, they go crashing
down but I can't see it happening | 0:37:54 | 0:37:57
with us. I think the mentality of
the players and the staff, the | 0:37:57 | 0:38:00
manager, it won't change, I don't
think we will be allowed to change. | 0:38:00 | 0:38:05
I'm assuming it does not surprise
you he gets linked | 0:38:05 | 0:38:08
I'm assuming it does not surprise
you he gets linked with so many | 0:38:08 | 0:38:09
jobs? Not in the position we are in,
seventh in the league and of course | 0:38:09 | 0:38:13
he will get linked with the other
jobs. But everything he's put in | 0:38:13 | 0:38:19
place behind the scenes that maybe
we don't see, the sports science and | 0:38:19 | 0:38:22
the training and all of that, we've
heard from former Burnley players | 0:38:22 | 0:38:28
and current players I have spoken to
about it, it is very sophisticated. | 0:38:28 | 0:38:31
He's across everything. Yeah, and I
was not there last year, we've just | 0:38:31 | 0:38:35
moved into the new training ground
so I was not there when we were in | 0:38:35 | 0:38:39
the old building in the same place.
It is a joy to go into training | 0:38:39 | 0:38:43
everyday in the building we are in.
He has complete control and the way | 0:38:43 | 0:38:49
he picked the team up in the
Championship, he has complete | 0:38:49 | 0:38:51
control because of where we are at.
Whether he would get | 0:38:51 | 0:38:54
control because of where we are at.
Whether he would get that at another | 0:38:54 | 0:38:56
club, because you go into a big
club, there's already structures in | 0:38:56 | 0:39:00
place, no disrespect to any of our
players, you have got bigger | 0:39:00 | 0:39:07
so-called players to deal with an
bigger wages and you bring in egos | 0:39:07 | 0:39:11
and different things into the mix
and that can cause its own problems. | 0:39:11 | 0:39:16
Would he have complete control | 0:39:16 | 0:39:17
and that can cause its own problems.
Would he have complete control over | 0:39:17 | 0:39:17
those buyers? It could cause a
problem. How I've read have you been | 0:39:17 | 0:39:22
with Chris Wood? He's been good,
obviously started really well, | 0:39:22 | 0:39:25
scored a lot of goals to begin with.
He is a striker that he might be | 0:39:25 | 0:39:30
quiet for a lot of the game but he
has got the goals, hasn't he? He has | 0:39:30 | 0:39:35
come in and started really well. It
is a different formation to what we | 0:39:35 | 0:39:38
were playing last year because from
what I no, we are | 0:39:38 | 0:39:44
were playing last year because from
what I no, we are playing one up | 0:39:44 | 0:39:45
front instead of two. Most of the
games, although yesterday we | 0:39:45 | 0:39:48
finished with two, it is a difficult
position. We are not scared to do | 0:39:48 | 0:39:53
it. We have got the players, lots of
underrated players in that position. | 0:39:53 | 0:40:00
it. We have got the players, lots of
underrated players in that position. | 0:40:00 | 0:40:01
When you talked about dealing with
egos at other clubs as far as | 0:40:01 | 0:40:04
players, do you also think because
he's been linked with a lot of jobs, | 0:40:04 | 0:40:07
Sean Dyche, in the last couple of
years, do you also think because he | 0:40:07 | 0:40:11
is very... He seems particular about
he will probably want his staff to | 0:40:11 | 0:40:16
go with him if he went to another
club, he would probably want to set | 0:40:16 | 0:40:20
the club up, revamp the whole club,
do you think there are some chairman | 0:40:20 | 0:40:26
or owners who are stuck in their own
ways, their club does things a | 0:40:26 | 0:40:30
certain way and that intimidate them
in some ways? Yeah, I think there is | 0:40:30 | 0:40:35
that. I think people would also say,
can his style translate to what we | 0:40:35 | 0:40:41
want to do? Going back to the
question of entertainment, with a | 0:40:41 | 0:40:45
club like Everton or indeed a club
like West Ham think, "He's not going | 0:40:45 | 0:40:50
to fit the Everton way or the West
Ham weight" | 0:40:50 | 0:40:54
to fit the Everton way or the West
Ham weight". Beggars can't be dues | 0:40:54 | 0:40:55
is in some ways. -- can't be
choosers. But I think, the style, | 0:40:55 | 0:41:02
the structural control that he
demands or seeks, it might put | 0:41:02 | 0:41:09
people off. But what is clear that
he is a very good manager who | 0:41:09 | 0:41:12
deserves, when he feels like it, he
needs to move on, he deserves a shot | 0:41:12 | 0:41:18
at a good job. I think for someone
like Everton, Sean Dyche would | 0:41:18 | 0:41:24
almost be perfect because of that
attitude, that never say die | 0:41:24 | 0:41:28
attitude, the determination and grit
and hard work. That is what Everton | 0:41:28 | 0:41:32
fans associate with. I remember
playing them in their time under | 0:41:32 | 0:41:36
David Moyes, they were grafters,
they let you know they were at home, | 0:41:36 | 0:41:41
on the pitch. Plus they had a bit of
extra quality which he has got in | 0:41:41 | 0:41:44
that squad at Everton and I think
Sean Dyche could come in and really | 0:41:44 | 0:41:48
galvanise the team and the squad of
players and creates that connection | 0:41:48 | 0:41:52
again with the fans. But the club
would have to buy into that. At the | 0:41:52 | 0:41:57
moment, they have a director of
football. There are still members of | 0:41:57 | 0:42:01
staff who were there under Ronald
Koeman and probably Roberto Martinez | 0:42:01 | 0:42:04
as well. They've gone in a different
direction with the new ownership, | 0:42:04 | 0:42:08
they want to play at a high level, a
different style of football and they | 0:42:08 | 0:42:11
have brought in more footballing
staff and players, with the way | 0:42:11 | 0:42:14
Ronald Koeman wanted to play but it
has not worked and what do they do? | 0:42:14 | 0:42:17
Do they try to continue but now and
the end of the season? Do they find | 0:42:17 | 0:42:23
a manager, like we mentioned, just
to stabilise them and get them into | 0:42:23 | 0:42:26
a good position from now on to the
end of the season? Going back to, we | 0:42:26 | 0:42:29
are only ten games in but their
confidence I don't think can get any | 0:42:29 | 0:42:33
lower. We've only got about one
minute left. Chelsea and Manchester | 0:42:33 | 0:42:39
United will have coverage
everywhere, so we only have a minute | 0:42:39 | 0:42:42
to talk about it! Are you surprised,
quickly, that Jose Mourinho seems to | 0:42:42 | 0:42:47
have started picking fights with the
United fans in the last week or so? | 0:42:47 | 0:42:52
I think a lot of it is about he's
very calculating. Is it about | 0:42:52 | 0:42:57
protecting the players? I think it's
a lot about that, it is about the | 0:42:57 | 0:43:00
team, some part of it is about him,
of course, but he is someone who is | 0:43:00 | 0:43:04
all with calculated about what he
does and in what he does. If he is | 0:43:04 | 0:43:08
fighting with the fans, it is
because he feels that maybe they are | 0:43:08 | 0:43:11
not giving the players the respect,
the team the respect they deserve, | 0:43:11 | 0:43:16
considering the circumstances, the
injuries they've got, he very rarely | 0:43:16 | 0:43:20
comes out and complains about the
injuries, he just gets on with it. | 0:43:20 | 0:43:23
And he's acquired a very good squad
but at the moment, it's not at full | 0:43:23 | 0:43:27
strength with injuries. Rio
Ferdinand in the Sunday Times says | 0:43:27 | 0:43:31
right now, Chelsea are there to be
smashed, taken apart. He says United | 0:43:31 | 0:43:36
should start all three of Lukaku,
Rashford and Martial. We will see a | 0:43:36 | 0:43:41
bit later whether he does that.
Chelsea and Manchester United is on | 0:43:41 | 0:43:45
Radio 5Live later and the second
half of Spurs against Crystal Palace | 0:43:45 | 0:43:48
is now. Thank you to all of you. We
will see you for Match of the Day to | 0:43:48 | 0:43:54
later to write with Ian White and
Alan Shearer. Goodbye. | 0:43:54 | 0:43:57 |
