Good morning and welcome to Japan for the panel to look round of the | :01:44. | :01:49.
Moto GP World Championship. We are at Motegi, the home of Honda, in | :01:50. | :01:55.
front of these passionate local fans. It has been a dramatic week in | :01:56. | :02:00.
the world of Moto GP, after that split race and a black flag for the | :02:01. | :02:06.
championship leader at Phillip Island seven days ago. We have had | :02:07. | :02:10.
typhoons, earthquakes, salami warnings, and one they cancelled due | :02:11. | :02:15.
to bad weather here at the track. But thankfully, the clouds have made | :02:16. | :02:27.
way for the crowds here today. With maximum points for Jorge Lorenzo in | :02:28. | :02:31.
Australia, the mathematical permutations are the same. Marc | :02:32. | :02:36.
Marquez needs to score seven points more than his fellow Spaniard, and | :02:37. | :02:45.
the Championship is his. But if McGill and finishes in the top two, | :02:46. | :02:49.
then he will take it to the final round in two weeks time. But one | :02:50. | :02:56.
thing we learned is that mathematics is not always the strongest subject | :02:57. | :02:57.
around here. COMMENTATOR: Dani Pedrosa has | :02:58. | :03:20.
pitted. How close was that leg in the air? Now is a good time to pick! | :03:21. | :03:29.
He cannot do that we are trying to work out how the biggest team in | :03:30. | :03:31.
motor racing, with the biggest budget, could get it so wrong. If | :03:32. | :03:38.
you were thinking you would gain an advantage, surely you would go and | :03:39. | :03:41.
speak to the race direct, and perhaps to the other side of the | :03:42. | :03:46.
garage. This document clearly states that the machine can only go for | :03:47. | :03:50.
nine or ten laps. If it is outside of that, then you would get a | :03:51. | :03:57.
penalty. It was a massive mistake. Look at this, what is going to | :03:58. | :04:01.
happen? My goodness me, they have rammed into each other. Marquez, in | :04:02. | :04:12.
the end, he was black-flagged and the engineer did not even know this | :04:13. | :04:16.
was happening. They were all ready for it to come in. You could clearly | :04:17. | :04:29.
see that the engineers were shocked. We made the plan together, with | :04:30. | :04:38.
three or four guys, but in the end, we told the team, three or four | :04:39. | :04:47.
people, and the biggest problem was that we thought it was possible to | :04:48. | :04:58.
make that lap. But in the end, the positive thing is that we were | :04:59. | :05:01.
there, fighting for the victory. Who is covering for who? Is Marc Marquez | :05:02. | :05:07.
covering for the team, or are the team covering for him? Quite | :05:08. | :05:11.
honestly, I thought it was more plausible that he missed the pit | :05:12. | :05:15.
board. There was a serious lack of communication within the garage, | :05:16. | :05:20.
because whatever happened, Dani Pedrosa's guys got it right, so how | :05:21. | :05:25.
can that be? Well, it is impossible. As we said in the commentary, they | :05:26. | :05:30.
were two laps apart, so one of them had to be wrong. But it is hopeless | :05:31. | :05:36.
for them that this has happened. Charlie, hold that thought, because | :05:37. | :05:44.
we have got the team director here. We are going to ask you the question | :05:45. | :05:48.
that you have been asked many times since last weekend - how did the | :05:49. | :05:53.
guys get it wrong and who ultimately takes the blame? I am not sure about | :05:54. | :05:59.
the question. Whose fault was it at Phillip Island? I do not remember. | :06:00. | :06:06.
It is done, and we have to think about this race and the next race. | :06:07. | :06:12.
At the beginning of the season, if somebody had told us that Marc | :06:13. | :06:15.
Marquez would have been leading the Championship at this stage, it | :06:16. | :06:18.
would've been a dream. We have be focused on this. Still a positive | :06:19. | :06:27.
situation, but forgot for Marc Marquez to keep his concentration | :06:28. | :06:32.
under this pressure, with all of the distractions. Sure, it has not been | :06:33. | :06:38.
the perfect weekend for him, but his ability to get used to the track | :06:39. | :06:43.
very quickly helps. This morning, in the dry conditions, he was very, | :06:44. | :06:52.
very fast. Good luck today. He was just making reference to the crash | :06:53. | :06:58.
there, and that was an incident involving Marc Marquez in the warm | :06:59. | :06:59.
up this morning. there, and that was an incident | :07:00. | :07:05.
involving Not ideal. He had come in for a harder front tyre. The big | :07:06. | :07:11.
problem again with this circuit, particularly this morning, the | :07:12. | :07:21.
temperature was quite cool. It was a massive crash, he was going through | :07:22. | :07:24.
the gravel at high speed. Thank goodness for him, he is 20 years old | :07:25. | :07:30.
and bounces well. Another own goal for them, it ramps up the you only | :07:31. | :07:36.
need something random, like this weekend, where there is one session | :07:37. | :07:41.
for qualifying followed by only one dry session this morning, so you | :07:42. | :07:45.
only have 50 minutes to set up your bike. If you have given away the | :07:46. | :07:49.
wonderful lead you had, and finish up with only two races left having | :07:50. | :07:54.
to do it, you have got no more races left, that is the problem. But | :07:55. | :08:00.
support who you like, Marc Marquez deserves to win the Championship | :08:01. | :08:03.
this year. As Charlie mentioned, we have just had the one session so far | :08:04. | :08:08.
this weekend, it was a 75 minute session, which took place yesterday | :08:09. | :08:15.
afternoon, in wet conditions, which seemed to suit Ducati, and in | :08:16. | :08:19.
particular Nicky Hayden. We know the bike works well in the wet, it takes | :08:20. | :08:23.
away a lot of our problems. I should be happy, front row, but I am also | :08:24. | :08:30.
not happy, as there were times during this session where I was | :08:31. | :08:36.
really fast, and as the track dried out, I could not really improve the | :08:37. | :08:41.
lap times and was probably trying to drive too hard. But nonetheless, | :08:42. | :08:46.
more importantly, we have got to try to take advantage of this tomorrow, | :08:47. | :08:51.
get away clean, and turn it into a good result. Thanks to my team for | :08:52. | :08:56.
working just as hard as ever, and to the fans here in Japan. They really | :08:57. | :09:13.
suffered a lot this weekend. I struggled a little bit with the | :09:14. | :09:18.
setup, but we finished second, so that is the most important. Tomorrow | :09:19. | :09:26.
will be testing, because nobody has ridden here... I mean, I have never | :09:27. | :09:33.
ridden here, so it will be testing, but anyway, I will try to do a good | :09:34. | :09:39.
race. Thank you to these fans, they give to me a lot of support. We hope | :09:40. | :09:44.
to have at least one pack this on the Saturday, I felt really good in | :09:45. | :09:53.
the wet. But tomorrow it seems there is going to be a dry race. We had a | :09:54. | :10:04.
chance at Phillip Island, so we have got to enjoy it. Yes, Jorge, back in | :10:05. | :10:16.
with a chance of the Championship. Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo, | :10:17. | :10:20.
where they want to be, on the front of the grid, but without any dry | :10:21. | :10:23.
setup time, so how important is that? Quite important. 50 minutes | :10:24. | :10:30.
just is not enough to sort it all out. This track has always been the | :10:31. | :10:37.
hardest on brakes and hardest on fuel. We are going to have to watch | :10:38. | :10:44.
a tiny bit when they go into turn one. A lot of the guys will never | :10:45. | :10:54.
have raced with those brakes. Dani Pedrosa, just watch him going into | :10:55. | :10:58.
turn one, and one or two other people as well, because he is on the | :10:59. | :11:09.
old brakes. Traditionally, until Jorge got his starts right, Dani | :11:10. | :11:13.
Pedrosa would always be the first person into turn one, from the first | :11:14. | :11:19.
row or the second row! That is his strength. Sure, they have had little | :11:20. | :11:25.
setup time, but Honda, they own this track. I did note that Yamaha have | :11:26. | :11:35.
got their fuelling right. The boys going out to the grades just behind | :11:36. | :11:41.
us now. One guy who still is not here is Ben 's bees, and the news | :11:42. | :11:46.
last night is that he has decided to retire permanently from motor | :11:47. | :11:50.
racing. -- Ben Spies. It is a terrible shame. It is indeed. He is | :11:51. | :11:56.
a world champion on superbikes, and a race winner in Moto GP, but I kind | :11:57. | :12:01.
of get it, because it oddly is not write any more, and he does not want | :12:02. | :12:07.
to be around midfield. -- because his body is not write any more. I | :12:08. | :12:14.
think he has passed his bad luck onto Scott Redding, actually. So, | :12:15. | :12:26.
Ben, unable to come back to Moto GP after a really difficult couple of | :12:27. | :12:30.
years with shoulder injuries. He is just not quite able to ride a Moto | :12:31. | :12:35.
GP bike any more. You have got to be in peak condition, and this story | :12:36. | :12:40.
with Ben not being able to come back shows us just how you have got to be | :12:41. | :12:46.
in absolutely top condition to ride a Moto GP bike. You have to have a | :12:47. | :12:51.
lot of power to muscle these bikes around. It is not just your arms, it | :12:52. | :12:56.
is through your legs, through your call, through your arms. After a 45 | :12:57. | :13:03.
minute race on Sunday, your body is just completely trashed. Let's say | :13:04. | :13:12.
my maximum heart rate would be 195. For 45 minutes, I am usually around | :13:13. | :13:18.
185 for a whole race. That is pretty high for 45 minutes. A lot of our | :13:19. | :13:29.
work in the gym is basic basically to build strength. This is a chilly | :13:30. | :13:36.
oxygen in millimetres available to every kilogram of Bradley's body | :13:37. | :13:41.
weight. -- this is actually oxygen. If you have less body weight, you | :13:42. | :13:46.
have more oxygen to go around, and so to a certain extent it is | :13:47. | :13:51.
important to have light riders, but we still need riders who have | :13:52. | :13:53.
physical strength, to be applied on the bike. There are a lot of | :13:54. | :13:59.
different lifts that we do, a lot of front squats, and a lot of deadlifts | :14:00. | :14:04.
to build strength in your leg and your lower back. We have this | :14:05. | :14:10.
machine to work on your reaction times, and your percent live vision. | :14:11. | :14:16.
All of them, just small details that you cannot replicate on track by | :14:17. | :14:26.
riding. Motorcycle racers have had ankle and knee injuries, so running | :14:27. | :14:30.
is not the first thing they want to do. Cycling is easier on your body. | :14:31. | :14:35.
It is natural, it is two wheels, you can do it in a group and have fun. | :14:36. | :14:39.
You can get competitive with each other, so I think that is why it is | :14:40. | :14:42.
the most popular. Motocross is a great alternative. | :14:43. | :14:57.
Just as a sport it builds up your four arm strength and upper body | :14:58. | :15:01.
strength naturally. It is also demanding. It has got be extra | :15:02. | :15:09.
element that increases your heart rate. It is a similar, physical | :15:10. | :15:16.
nature and similar on the arms and legs. It seems to transfer well. It | :15:17. | :15:20.
does not have the same speed but throttle control, feeling, spinning | :15:21. | :15:26.
and breaks gets your eye back in on the motorbike. This is where it | :15:27. | :15:33.
comes in. It is the third race in as many weekends from Malaysia down to | :15:34. | :15:38.
Australia, back appeared to Japan, these boys are being put to the | :15:39. | :15:47.
test. Scott Smart had to dash back to Brands Hatch himself last weekend | :15:48. | :15:56.
to race in the Superbikes. I am here about the job. You have | :15:57. | :16:04.
got to get kitted up. Green is not my colour, but I will work with it. | :16:05. | :16:17.
What sort of stuff well I expect to hear in the debriefing? The | :16:18. | :16:28.
suspension is working good or bad in certain places. How the tyres are | :16:29. | :16:33.
reacting, how the gearing is and the general setup of the bike. Put that | :16:34. | :16:46.
in there. OK. As soon as you can. That is the wrong way. That is not | :16:47. | :16:55.
bad. But I won't you doing that during this, I will be telling you | :16:56. | :17:01.
to do it. You are in charge. I don't want to get my hands dirty. | :17:02. | :17:15.
I don't like the smell of the fuel. Is it going? | :17:16. | :17:43.
Friday and I am starting my duties as crew chief. They have gone | :17:44. | :18:02.
through with me what I have two chat to Michael about. It is a learning | :18:03. | :18:08.
session for Michael. Getting the track temperature, I have to let | :18:09. | :18:11.
Michael know what the conditions are this morning. I don't want to get it | :18:12. | :18:18.
wrong for him. Track conditions, quite cool. Looks like it will be a | :18:19. | :18:24.
dry session. Track temperature is around 19 degrees at the moment. | :18:25. | :18:33.
Bruce, what is the deal? We give him time remaining, lap and the position | :18:34. | :18:35.
when he comes in. It is pretty windy. How was the | :18:36. | :18:52.
session? Not too bad. Finding my feet. Guys, crew chief, did I do | :18:53. | :19:01.
well? You did very well. The wheel change was funny. Stick to your day | :19:02. | :19:10.
job. I think that is the best advice you have had all weekend. Onto the | :19:11. | :19:16.
grid, there is Jorge Lorenzo in pole position. It is his fourth 2013. He | :19:17. | :19:21.
went from pole position to second place here last year. Alongside him | :19:22. | :19:29.
is Marc Marquez. He has won here before. Victory today, combined with | :19:30. | :19:33.
third place for Jorge Lorenzo -- Jorge Lorenzo, remember and he will | :19:34. | :19:42.
be crowned world champion. The bright red Ducati, back here for the | :19:43. | :19:46.
second time this season, but for the first time with Nicky Hayden on | :19:47. | :19:50.
board. Different conditions today, I am sure you are one of the only guys | :19:51. | :19:55.
hoping for rain today? We would have loved to have had those same | :19:56. | :19:59.
conditions. But we knew it would dry. We did 45 minutes, so we have | :20:00. | :20:07.
an idea. It is not going to be easy. The bike has felt better these last | :20:08. | :20:11.
couple of races and we have got some momentum going. We are going to get | :20:12. | :20:17.
after it and try and stay in there as long as we can. Try to have some | :20:18. | :20:21.
fun, it is nice to be starting with some clean tarmac and I am looking | :20:22. | :20:25.
forward to it. Great to see you appeared, good luck. Through to the | :20:26. | :20:33.
second row. Very much like two weeks ago, he came from the second row to | :20:34. | :20:37.
win the race. Dani Pedrosa is going to be a strong contender from the | :20:38. | :20:41.
second row. Two wins from the last two years here at Motegi. He has won | :20:42. | :20:50.
from the second row two weeks ago. We need to get back to the third | :20:51. | :20:58.
row. Alvaro Bautista was running fastest in the warm up until he had | :20:59. | :21:04.
a mechanical problem. He was on the podium last year. He could be a | :21:05. | :21:12.
contender for the podium today. Alongside him is Stefan Bradl. Two | :21:13. | :21:18.
weeks after breaking his ankle in Malaysia, an incredible effort to be | :21:19. | :21:22.
back here and also you went fastest in the warm up this morning. You are | :21:23. | :21:27.
very strong? It went good for us in the morning. I hope we can do | :21:28. | :21:32.
another good session in the race. It is tight, everything is together. It | :21:33. | :21:39.
is going to be an exciting race. Most of the riders are on the hard | :21:40. | :21:45.
option now. It is going to be interesting. I can be free of Payne | :21:46. | :21:52.
and try to push as long as I can. We look forward to that. He has a plate | :21:53. | :22:01.
and six screws in his ankle after breaking it in Malaysia two years | :22:02. | :22:05.
ago. Fastest in the warm up this morning. But that was just one lap. | :22:06. | :22:11.
Hernandez on the Ducati in 10th place. It is his best race of the | :22:12. | :22:17.
season so far. He will be wanting to replace inspires next year on a more | :22:18. | :22:27.
permanent basis. Not used to seeing Cal Crutchlow back here. He is in | :22:28. | :22:32.
11th place, his worst grade of the season so far. Let's have a word | :22:33. | :22:39.
with him. Not used to seeing you so far back, but good to see you | :22:40. | :22:44.
smiling. You had a decent warm up this morning? It seemed to go a | :22:45. | :22:51.
little bit better. We need to be faster. We need to get the one and | :22:52. | :22:56.
only start of the year I can try and nail. I will try my best, but we | :22:57. | :23:00.
know we have a problem with getting the bike of the line. We will see | :23:01. | :23:05.
how it goes, I am looking forward to it and we will see, it depends. | :23:06. | :23:11.
Maybe tonight we are in the karaoke bar, maybe not! We will keep our | :23:12. | :23:16.
fingers crossed, if only for that, to hear you sing. I will take some | :23:17. | :23:27.
video. Onwards and upwards. I have just spotted somebody here | :23:28. | :23:31.
supporting Cal Crutchlow. We will come back to him. Chris Froome, Tour | :23:32. | :23:40.
de France winner. Let's grab a quick word with Colin Edwards, looking to | :23:41. | :23:45.
wrap up second CRT in the championship this weekend. I am | :23:46. | :23:54.
impressed. It has been a strange weekend. We have got the bike | :23:55. | :23:59.
working pretty good. We will see what we can do. Colin Edwards | :24:00. | :24:09.
looking to finish ahead of Randy De Puniet. Chris Froome, I believe you | :24:10. | :24:14.
have been in an exhibition in Japan and the first time at MotoGP, a nice | :24:15. | :24:21.
way to spend the time? Yes, we were here yesterday. We figured, why | :24:22. | :24:29.
not, the MotoGP is on today. Cal Crutchlow, is good friends with Mark | :24:30. | :24:35.
Cavendish, am sure you know all about him. He is not too shabby on a | :24:36. | :24:41.
push-bike either? It is pretty cool being here and meeting these guys. | :24:42. | :24:48.
It is interesting that a lot of them are riding and using that as their | :24:49. | :24:54.
fitness training. Very similar levels of fitness required. And a | :24:55. | :24:57.
lot of bravery. This is one thing you will experience from track-side | :24:58. | :25:03.
this morning? I watched the last race, it is pretty hairy around | :25:04. | :25:08.
there. Definitely takes some nerves. Enjoy the rest of the day. So, we | :25:09. | :25:16.
are all set, thankfully the sun is shining. It could be the | :25:17. | :25:26.
championship decider. It is all to sorted out from the front. Now it is | :25:27. | :25:30.
time for the riders to give something back to these fans. For | :25:31. | :25:34.
most of the weekend it has been the other way around. | :25:35. | :25:45.
We have got these this ear, a picture of me and Lucy. This is a | :25:46. | :26:04.
dog. I was given a come only with my name on the back of it. We had a guy | :26:05. | :26:13.
last year he won the front of the bike all day. We had a dog with a | :26:14. | :26:22.
shirt on with my lettering on. This is a great gift from the fans. | :26:23. | :26:38.
It is all wide open. I think ie have eaten the thing Valentino had there, | :26:39. | :26:51.
last night. The championship is so loose, isn't it? From what happened | :26:52. | :26:56.
a week ago in Australia to what happened this morning and across the | :26:57. | :27:01.
weekend with the weather. All you can guarantee is you cannot | :27:02. | :27:02.
guarantee a thing. What do you do if you are Marquez? | :27:03. | :27:24.
He has to keep it clean and neat. He could be the chaser next weekend. | :27:25. | :27:33.
Nicky Hayden was way off the pace, compared to the wet weather time. | :27:34. | :27:37.
Ninth in the dry this morning so expect him to go backwards. Watch | :27:38. | :27:48.
the Dani Pedrosa. Dovizioso found a setting at the very last minute. | :27:49. | :27:53.
Bautista had a tumble before it. Sorted out. He was fastest in the | :27:54. | :27:59.
warm up in dry conditions. Bradley Smith had some brake problems in the | :28:00. | :28:10.
qualifying session yesterday. Bradley and Cal Crutchlow had a | :28:11. | :28:15.
scratchy qualifier. Another learning curve for Michael Laverty? He has | :28:16. | :28:23.
had to learn it in the wet yesterday and now in the dry today. On Friday | :28:24. | :28:28.
I thought we had landed on Mars, it was atrocious weather. We wondered | :28:29. | :28:33.
what we were doing here. Now look at it, it is like a spring day in the | :28:34. | :28:42.
UK. Look at the Honda of Marquez. It looks like a pair of dustbin lids | :28:43. | :28:48.
attached to the front wheel. They are so huge. They have to take the | :28:49. | :28:59.
calipers - you cannot take the calipers of, you have to take the | :29:00. | :29:06.
disk of the wheel. Because they also big, they cool down quicker. | :29:07. | :29:09.
Speaking to Cal Crutchlow this morning, he was worried that long | :29:10. | :29:16.
the down straight they would cool down too much. It is so hard on the | :29:17. | :29:23.
brakes here. A lot of the factory guys have gone for that. The | :29:24. | :29:27.
characteristic of this circuit is stop start. That is the way Dani | :29:28. | :29:34.
Pedrosa can capitalise. This is the flowing section, the back section of | :29:35. | :29:39.
the track, if you like. Go back the other way, hit the brakes. Go back | :29:40. | :29:45.
the third Way and hit the brakes. There are five monster stops on this | :29:46. | :29:53.
track. There is another grid for the amateur racers and they can shorten | :29:54. | :29:55.
the circuit. This is the big straight. Drop from 185 miles an | :29:56. | :30:05.
hour downhill. It sucks you into this corner, very easy to make a | :30:06. | :30:10.
mistake. We have seen Valentino Rossi do that. So many people in the | :30:11. | :30:16.
past have gone into that. The first lap will be awkward until the | :30:17. | :30:20.
temperatures are. Some of the guys with the bigger brakes will not know | :30:21. | :30:26.
what is going on. 25 points for a win. As we were discussing at the | :30:27. | :30:31.
top of the show, he needs eight points in the pocket to get this job | :30:32. | :30:34.
done and not have to take it to Valencia. He is checking those | :30:35. | :30:40.
brakes, they seem to be working. They are just enormous those things. | :30:41. | :30:46.
He has made a mistake today. Look at the size of them. Marquez is sought. | :30:47. | :31:01.
Understandably, a tumble. Let's look what is going on here. Cal Crutchlow | :31:02. | :31:06.
says he will make the best start of the year. Let's hope he does. | :31:07. | :31:17.
Championship on the line in Japan. Lorenzo smoking it down, and who is | :31:18. | :31:22.
coming through? Valentino Rossi blocks Dani Pedrosa! In the process, | :31:23. | :31:30.
Marquez has got him back. Lorenzo at front, with Rossi in behind him, | :31:31. | :31:34.
followed by Marquez, and heading the rest of the pack, Dani Pedrosa. | :31:35. | :31:42.
Bradley is through in front of Cal Crutchlow, so that did not work for | :31:43. | :31:47.
Cal Crutchlow at all. Oh, dear me, here we go. It was just a wonderful | :31:48. | :31:56.
set of reflexes from Lorenzo, and Rossi second, how about that? Great | :31:57. | :32:02.
stuff, Valentino Rossi has always been fast around this circuit. He | :32:03. | :32:06.
just did not quite get it together in qualifying, in those wet | :32:07. | :32:10.
conditions. But it could not be more different. Nobody will know what the | :32:11. | :32:15.
track will be like today. There is not a lot of rubber down. Valentino | :32:16. | :32:24.
Rossi said it perfectly - hard on the body, hard on the bike, that is | :32:25. | :32:30.
what this place is like. And down the hill for the first time, those | :32:31. | :32:35.
monster front discs are going to be properly tested now. Downhill, off | :32:36. | :32:44.
camber, superfast. Rossi getting squeezed, Marc Marquez will not want | :32:45. | :32:50.
to let Jorge Lorenzo... You were asking me, what do I think Marc | :32:51. | :32:56.
Marquez wants to do? I would say, keep the blue Yamaha of Jorge | :32:57. | :32:58.
Lorenzo insight. Second place would do him here, at least he could go to | :32:59. | :33:04.
Valencia with a pretty decent chance of taking the Championship. Yes, he | :33:05. | :33:11.
would not have to win Valencia then, if he gets a solid return of points | :33:12. | :33:16.
today. But up at the front, Jorge Lorenzo showing how it is done. A | :33:17. | :33:20.
strong opening lap from a standing start. Excellent start from Bradley | :33:21. | :33:28.
Smith, in sixth position. Cal Crutchlow down in eighth at the | :33:29. | :33:33.
moment. You were right about Nicky Hayden, he has dropped down into | :33:34. | :33:43.
10th, with a dry track. Valentino Rossi tends to want to or three laps | :33:44. | :33:50.
to get up to speed. Steve, everything here is an approximation | :33:51. | :33:54.
for everybody this weekend. We are keeping you abreast of what the | :33:55. | :34:01.
points mean. STEVE PARRISH: There are 23 laps | :34:02. | :34:08.
remaining this, and I suspect that Marc Marquez will have the on | :34:09. | :34:12.
Valentino Rossi. I think the Honda works around here, this is their | :34:13. | :34:17.
test track, it accelerates well, it brakes well. It will all be about | :34:18. | :34:22.
who has got some tyres left towards the end, and some brakes, for that | :34:23. | :34:26.
matter. But with these great big brakes, I do not think that will be | :34:27. | :34:33.
an issue. Rossi has gone wide! We talked about him making a mistake, | :34:34. | :34:37.
and that was lucky he did not hit the gravel. He has dropped two | :34:38. | :34:41.
places, with both Hondas going through. | :34:42. | :34:59.
I am just wondering if those brakes got a bit too cold. He nearly hit | :35:00. | :35:07.
Dani Pedrosa, that was close. Yes, it shortened Dani Pedrosa's braking | :35:08. | :35:16.
distance there. So, all to do again from the Doctor. Just what the | :35:17. | :35:30.
Doctor did not order. Iannone is back in circulation, following that | :35:31. | :35:33.
experience that he had on the first lap. | :35:34. | :35:45.
The lap record around here is a 1.45.89. Are we going to see that | :35:46. | :35:55.
girl? I do not think so. Short on setup, but beautiful conditions to | :35:56. | :35:59.
race in. There was a little bit of a breeze, which will affect their | :36:00. | :36:02.
speed down the pit straight, but that is about it. If it stays like | :36:03. | :36:07.
this, it would be a 13 point advantage which Marc Marquez would | :36:08. | :36:11.
have, going to Valencia. That would look pretty handy. | :36:12. | :36:20.
CHARLIE COX: Yes, you would need a calamity... Oh, these brakes are not | :36:21. | :36:26.
working. That is exactly the same corner. Second time around. That is | :36:27. | :36:34.
dangerous beyond belief, trying to join the track there, with filthy | :36:35. | :36:37.
tyres. It does not matter how much grip he is going to get, and as he | :36:38. | :36:42.
crosses the line, I can tell you... Well, it is the same thing, they are | :36:43. | :36:48.
just not gripping. You can cook your brakes up as well, that is the | :36:49. | :36:53.
problem, if you get too much heat in too quickly, these bigger disks can | :36:54. | :36:58.
cook up. You are getting the heat on the outside and it is not getting to | :36:59. | :37:02.
the inside, which is what I think has happened, he has overcooked | :37:03. | :37:09.
those brakes on the first lap. I think that was an enormous gamble, | :37:10. | :37:14.
you are not supposed to change things between qualifying and the | :37:15. | :37:19.
race. I know these were extreme circumstances, but poor old Rossi is | :37:20. | :37:23.
paying the price. They have tested them, of course, but it is not the | :37:24. | :37:27.
same. Yes, it is really, really difficult. And Valentino Rossi is | :37:28. | :37:35.
now back in 11th, behind knackers Uma, the wild card wider, also on a | :37:36. | :37:38.
Yamaha. Marquez, as long as his body holds | :37:39. | :37:58.
up, he will just want to get this done to date. We saw him come close | :37:59. | :38:02.
to winning the race at Silverstone with a dislocated shoulder in the | :38:03. | :38:06.
morning. I am sure he is feeling beaten up. It is extraordinary how | :38:07. | :38:11.
your body can react, with the adrenaline factor, and also your | :38:12. | :38:15.
main Championship rival ten bikes in front of you. I think that is going | :38:16. | :38:22.
to be coming down very shortly. We heard him say, I do many things, but | :38:23. | :38:29.
not racing is not one of them. If I am in a race, I have got to win it! | :38:30. | :38:36.
I truly believe that Marc Marquez deserves to win this Championship | :38:37. | :38:40.
this year. What went on in Phillip Island really could not be put upon | :38:41. | :38:45.
him, it seems, and you would not expect to come away with no points | :38:46. | :38:51.
after riding as well as he did. But if sound but still not count. We | :38:52. | :38:54.
will find out what happens here, with 20 laps to go. Of course, the | :38:55. | :38:59.
Yamaha tends to go well around here. What Jorge did do, he got the first | :39:00. | :39:23.
lap out of the way, which we have seen him doing so many times this | :39:24. | :39:26.
year, just getting the power-down nice and early. I am wondering | :39:27. | :39:43.
whether or not anybody has had a word with Dani Pedrosa, as far as | :39:44. | :39:47.
the Championship is concerned. Being 34 points back, the chances of him | :39:48. | :39:51.
winning the Championship are very, very slim, of course. So, I am just | :39:52. | :39:58.
wondering if he has been told to try not to give Marc Marquez too much | :39:59. | :40:03.
hassle. It will be tough for him, because he will be thinking, yes, I | :40:04. | :40:08.
am not in the Championship hunt, because Marquez took me out in | :40:09. | :40:13.
Aragorn! Bradley Smith, up into sixth place. Dani Pedrosa has just | :40:14. | :40:24.
put in a fastest lap. They are very close to the lap record here. Dani | :40:25. | :40:33.
stuck with the smaller brakes, he did not feel it was necessary to go | :40:34. | :40:38.
to the heavier brakes. That will also be interesting, coming to the | :40:39. | :40:41.
end of the race, whether or not he has had to push on more than he | :40:42. | :40:47.
would normally. That is the Oval, the Twin Ring circuit here. It has | :40:48. | :40:52.
got an American type Oval over the top of it. | :40:53. | :41:38.
You can hear how they are having to short shift in the lower gears, | :41:39. | :41:58.
because it wheelies too much. It is a great sound, isn't it? I am | :41:59. | :42:05.
getting a bit motion sick now. Interesting that the Hondas are | :42:06. | :42:08.
using first gear a lot more than the Yamaha. He really loves to break | :42:09. | :42:26.
late, Marquez. As we go past a third of race distance. He is very good in | :42:27. | :42:32.
the stop start area. Freddie Spencer, the youngest ever, he was, | :42:33. | :42:38.
so he probably hopes Marquez does not win the Championship. But up | :42:39. | :42:44.
until the current time, he is the youngest ever world champion. But it | :42:45. | :42:50.
is not done yet. Can you remember, Charlie, Valentino Rossi came to | :42:51. | :42:53.
Valencia, looking like he had got the Championship sewn up... 2006, I | :42:54. | :43:02.
will never forget it. And he just got it all wrong, as he has now, | :43:03. | :43:10.
Bradley Smith is in sixth, with Cal Crutchlow right behind him. I am | :43:11. | :43:15.
imagining Cal will be able to get past Radley, he has been faster all | :43:16. | :43:19.
season. Dani Pedrosa looks like he is the most comfortable at the | :43:20. | :43:31.
moment. He is a superstar here. They love him here in Japan. Yes, he is | :43:32. | :43:40.
very, very popular. The fans just adore Moto GP here. There is a big, | :43:41. | :43:50.
big crowd here today. What is going to be the weak point? Is it going to | :43:51. | :43:55.
be Marc Marquez's body, will it be brakes, tyres, or any of the other | :43:56. | :44:02.
elements? We know that Valentino Rossi has had to get a lift back | :44:03. | :44:07.
because he was tight on fuel. The first gear corners on this circuit, | :44:08. | :44:13.
it is although gears, with the tap wide open. It is like racing around | :44:14. | :44:27.
the city, really. Look at the elbow. And the throttle hand, just as he | :44:28. | :44:34.
gets to the apex. Beautiful to watch. So, the lap times have | :44:35. | :44:42.
settled down, in the low 46s. That is about the race pace. Jorge | :44:43. | :44:46.
Lorenzo has the softer of the rear tyres. We found in Phillip Island | :44:47. | :44:51.
that Bridgestone, with some of the problems they have had, the harder | :44:52. | :44:56.
tyre they went, the worse it got. They had probably run out of the | :44:57. | :44:59.
softer tyres by the time they realised that that was maybe what | :45:00. | :45:03.
they would be needing. And here we are with Bradl, in fourth position. | :45:04. | :45:12.
Right behind him, Bautista. That would be eight turn up, Bradley | :45:13. | :45:19.
Smith beating Cal. It would, it is the first time he has ridden a Moto | :45:20. | :45:26.
GP bike around this circuit. I guess those sort of high-speed direction | :45:27. | :45:32.
changes at the end of the lap would be the most painful for the ankle of | :45:33. | :45:36.
Bradl. As they come onto the straight. That was brilliant. | :45:37. | :45:46.
Whether they have put on a better electronic package, because those | :45:47. | :45:49.
bikes should be identical, performance wise, but he just got it | :45:50. | :45:51.
coming out of that corner. That was a rocket going past. Look | :45:52. | :46:10.
at the battle going on behind. How about, as close as you like, trying | :46:11. | :46:16.
to find his way past. He will have to be careful, it is his team-mate. | :46:17. | :46:22.
This is the battle for the Tech 3. Bradley Smith being chased heavily. | :46:23. | :46:29.
Chased heavily by his team-mate, Cal Crutchlow. Bradley missed the apex. | :46:30. | :46:42.
He seemed to miss the corner and Cal Crutchlow slipped past. There is how | :46:43. | :46:56.
he did it. That was as neat as you like. So, what have we got? Are the | :46:57. | :47:02.
Honda bikes comfortable where they are? A long way to go yet. Is Dani | :47:03. | :47:10.
Pedrosa riding to any sort of team order? When we work in Phillip | :47:11. | :47:16.
Island, Honda's preference was before the fiasco pit stop, it was | :47:17. | :47:23.
to have the race won here. Where better the Honda to take the World | :47:24. | :47:30.
Championship and at its own track? But the best laid plans did not work | :47:31. | :47:35.
out. You see the difference riding styles of the two Honda bikes. The | :47:36. | :47:49.
trick the Dani Pedrosa is, if the factory preference is for the win to | :47:50. | :47:57.
be here, that would put the blocks on him getting past Marquez. He has | :47:58. | :48:09.
a contract for next year. He wants to keep everything nice and smooth. | :48:10. | :48:13.
Looking back we saw a battle going on, let's get the replay. No, | :48:14. | :48:26.
sliding. A bit of a moment. There his his dad. -- there is his dad. | :48:27. | :48:38.
This is where the Honda will be strong. It is the fastest and | :48:39. | :48:42.
longest straight. Passing on that corner can easily suck you into that | :48:43. | :48:47.
corner. We have seen what Valentino Rossi O has done before. -- | :48:48. | :48:58.
Valentino Rossi. Marc Marquez is looking in attack mode. Super fast | :48:59. | :49:05.
through the sequence of corners on to the pit straight. That is where | :49:06. | :49:09.
he had bad crash this morning. He was so quick through there, look at | :49:10. | :49:13.
that time he has taken out of Jorge Lorenzo. Three tenths, it is a huge | :49:14. | :49:20.
move. All of a sudden it looks like 99, the Yamaha of Lorenzo is backing | :49:21. | :49:32.
up. Just had the fastest lap of his time the bridle. Still doing well | :49:33. | :49:40.
with the screws and plate in his ankle in sixth position. Number 71 | :49:41. | :49:50.
has just crashed out. Riding with Dani Pedrosa who has a Birds Eye, | :49:51. | :49:55.
grandstand view of this race going on. 14 laps remaining. This is the | :49:56. | :50:04.
part of the circuit where the Yamaha looks sweetest. But on the breaking | :50:05. | :50:10.
spots that is where they will lunch up again. Turn ten out of there. Up | :50:11. | :50:21.
into the dummy grid. And then the downhill straight, he is riding | :50:22. | :50:24.
defensively, great covering from Jorge Lorenzo. You cannot expect | :50:25. | :50:31.
that to last the 14 laps. Yamaha has the grip of the corners. That is | :50:32. | :50:41.
Colin Edwards' team-mate. Not a good spot to be. What I am noticing is | :50:42. | :50:52.
the Yamaha's good grip of the slower corners. It might not have the out | :50:53. | :50:57.
right acceleration, it seems the gearbox isn't as fast. Although they | :50:58. | :51:01.
have bridged the gap, they seem to be a touch down on power. Jorge | :51:02. | :51:08.
Lorenzo carries good mid-corner speed and then gets on the power and | :51:09. | :51:15.
can make the time up. Marquez has a more aim and fire style. The drones, | :51:16. | :51:25.
we riding with him. Down into the awkward turn 11. Actually, it is not | :51:26. | :51:29.
it is down into the second bridge. Up to the tight left. Wonderful | :51:30. | :51:54.
sound of the two Honda bikes. This is where you notice Jorge is good. | :51:55. | :52:02.
Marquez is on his back. Lorenzo gets the Yamaha of the corner very well. | :52:03. | :52:20.
Number 11, this is worth Marquez crashed this morning. Victory Corner | :52:21. | :52:31.
and then out onto the straight. It is also where we saw Bautista put a | :52:32. | :52:37.
strong move with just a couple of laps to go. I cannot work out where | :52:38. | :52:49.
Marc Marquez has got any way of coming into the corners. Lorenzo, we | :52:50. | :52:55.
know what he is thinking, he has got to win this race. For him to win | :52:56. | :53:05.
this championship with any hope, realistically and to have a much | :53:06. | :53:09.
better chance of taking this championship is winning here, take | :53:10. | :53:12.
the five points away and turn up with a 13 point deficit. There is an | :53:13. | :53:21.
outside possibility. Marquez seems to be strongest on the brakes. | :53:22. | :53:31.
Bringing the bike in. Tipping it in, still on the front wheel. | :53:32. | :53:39.
Lorenzo, as you pointed out, drives out of the corner better. Marquez | :53:40. | :53:46.
always looks the most out getting it stopped. Pedrosa catches it in a | :53:47. | :53:55.
neat and orderly manner. For him to have a go into this corner, I think | :53:56. | :53:59.
he has got to be on the back wheel or just on the inside of it. The | :54:00. | :54:04.
Honda does have the performance down the straight. If you lose it, if you | :54:05. | :54:11.
lose just a touch coming out of the corner, it seems to take for ever to | :54:12. | :54:16.
get it back. You have got to catch the speed. You have got to keep the | :54:17. | :54:22.
momentum up. Dani Pedrosa will be thinking, 11 laps of this, you have | :54:23. | :54:26.
got to be kidding. They are only just halfway through this. What both | :54:27. | :54:34.
the guys will be finding as well, they are not getting the air through | :54:35. | :54:39.
the radiator as much, certainly not onto the brakes as much. Espargaro. | :54:40. | :54:53.
He is not happy. I did think he got knocked off. I think it is a brake | :54:54. | :55:04.
failure. It is extraordinary. I did not see where the bike ended up. I | :55:05. | :55:09.
can hazard a guess at its condition. It looked like a brake | :55:10. | :55:15.
issue in that bottom corner. Look at this! This is as close as you like. | :55:16. | :55:23.
Almost kissing tyres. Danni has said, I don't want to get involved | :55:24. | :55:35.
in this. Marc most getting high on the Yamaha fumes, he is so close. My | :55:36. | :55:50.
goodness me! He has got to be saying to himself, do I want to tangle up | :55:51. | :55:54.
with this guy and end up in the dirt? ! He has got the run here. | :55:55. | :56:04.
They are telling Jorge to go as hard as he can. As opposed to what must | :56:05. | :56:12.
you Mark! I think Dani Pedrosa thinks, I am going to back away from | :56:13. | :56:17.
this, it will end in tears. It is Lorenzo's best chance that something | :56:18. | :56:22.
will go off on the tyres of the Honda. They might run out of tyres | :56:23. | :56:27.
before him. I think it will be the other way around. At the moment is, | :56:28. | :56:34.
I am not seeing it. We still have ten laps to go. We're coming up to | :56:35. | :56:38.
tyre degradation time in the next couple of laps. Marc Marquez is all | :56:39. | :56:50.
over the back of the Yamaha now. Danni has dropped away. He looked to | :56:51. | :56:58.
be the most comfortable in third place. Across the line, that gap is | :56:59. | :57:05.
seven tenths from Lorenzo last time around. Nine laps left of this. We | :57:06. | :57:15.
shall see. Yamaha just pushed off the bottom corner, coming out of the | :57:16. | :57:23.
tight corner. Just seems to nail it at that point. Defensive line, but | :57:24. | :57:29.
it works. Makes it a long ride the Marquez to get around. He has missed | :57:30. | :57:37.
the corner. I don't know how he brought that back in again. The | :57:38. | :57:41.
Yamaha was in the way at the point he did not want it in the way, but I | :57:42. | :57:46.
am sure he will make the time up again shortly. Jorge Lorenzo making | :57:47. | :57:52.
it as wide as he can. Why wouldn't he, using up every bit of the track, | :57:53. | :57:58.
making sure he is not slow of the corners. That is where he could lose | :57:59. | :58:06.
this. Pedrosa is 1.1 behind. He was unable to go for the apex in the | :58:07. | :58:10.
corner. Had to pick the bike up a little bit. Cannot lay into the | :58:11. | :58:17.
corner as he wants to. Could run through the corner, but he was | :58:18. | :58:25.
off-line. Lorenzo was 46.0 and Pedrosa was 46.4, so these two at | :58:26. | :58:30.
the front are going more quickly and are dropping off Dani Pedrosa a | :58:31. | :58:41.
little. It looks to me, I think Marc Marquez will be back on his back | :58:42. | :58:51.
wheel again in a couple of corners. He will have another go at this. | :58:52. | :58:59.
What can you say more about Jorge Lorenzo. He is so good at running a | :59:00. | :59:04.
strong, steady pace. He is the Roger Federer of motorcycling. He has been | :59:05. | :59:09.
around forever, he is tidy, smooth and does everything tidy on the day. | :59:10. | :59:14.
And the pressure he is under? He served an apprenticeship very well | :59:15. | :59:20.
under Valentino Rossi. He learned how to lose as well and is how to | :59:21. | :59:25.
win. When he did finally went, it was a great job. It is no fluke he | :59:26. | :59:30.
has won two world titles, Lorenzo. Not at all. The crew is with him. | :59:31. | :59:40.
They can sense it is three tenths. 45.7, he has just set a new fastest | :59:41. | :59:47.
time. Lorenzo is responding. He is digging deep and watching the pit | :59:48. | :59:51.
board. Could the tyres be the difference? Marquez has pulled | :59:52. | :00:02.
himself away from Dani Pedrosa. If it all ends here, a laps to go, but | :00:03. | :00:06.
with these positions, the championship would be 13 points in | :00:07. | :00:12.
when they go to Valencia. What Lorenzo needs to try to do | :00:13. | :00:16.
obviously, it is successfully use a few times, get Marquez enough to | :00:17. | :00:28.
kind of extinguish any optimism that the youngster might have about | :00:29. | :00:33.
getting it back again. He did it quite a few times across recent | :00:34. | :00:38.
runs. Maybe he is doing it again. This gap is opening up. Maybe he | :00:39. | :00:46.
has. That would be the smart move. There is no where it seems to me he | :00:47. | :00:51.
has a big advantage on Yamaha. Maybe running into the corners, but when | :00:52. | :00:55.
there is a bike on the line, difficult to get through. He had an | :00:56. | :01:04.
attempt at turn 11. It did not work. I would have thought his pit board | :01:05. | :01:10.
would say, settle down, second place, we are happy with that. | :01:11. | :01:14.
Lorenzo will be giving it everything. You never know it with | :01:15. | :01:19.
him because he is so smooth. No one has giving him the punch to go | :01:20. | :01:32.
faster. You can see Marquez is really on the max. You can see him | :01:33. | :01:39.
shifting his body weight back, ready for the corner. I truly believe if | :01:40. | :01:42.
he got in front, he would go faster, at the risk factor is so much | :01:43. | :01:48.
higher. It is such as we saw in Malaysia, Lorenzo was riding with | :01:49. | :01:54.
elbows, feet and everything. He had a great battle with Marc Marquez, | :01:55. | :01:58.
throwing everything at it to keep the guy at bay. It was a different | :01:59. | :02:03.
style Lorenzo, when it came to the fighting of it, and he is going to | :02:04. | :02:08.
make it hard again. And you get the feeling at the moment that Marc | :02:09. | :02:10.
Marquez is probably thinking, there is not much I can do about this. We | :02:11. | :02:16.
have seen so many moments. Look at the way he is going, he misses the | :02:17. | :02:21.
apex completely. Sometimes missing it gives you a good run back into | :02:22. | :02:26.
the second part of it. And enough people have done it, that track is | :02:27. | :02:30.
still pretty clean out there, it is not the end but this is looking like | :02:31. | :02:35.
a proper breather for Lorenzo, we are looking at about half a second. | :02:36. | :02:40.
Marc Marquez, although he is only 20 years old, he is almost certainly | :02:41. | :02:44.
thinking to himself, you know come this might be the best option here. | :02:45. | :02:51.
If you were Dani Pedrosa... No, it has cost him more than that. It is | :02:52. | :02:58.
more than a second. Yes, he is now Marc Marquez has just got to settle | :02:59. | :03:02.
down, take a deep breath and bring it home. But Jorge Lorenzo, 50 wins | :03:03. | :03:08.
he has had in all classes, 51 if he wins here today, and it is looking | :03:09. | :03:12.
very much like it, with six laps remaining. Marc Marquez does not | :03:13. | :03:15.
want to get himself into a tangle with Pedrosa. I would not bank on | :03:16. | :03:22.
Pedrosa remaining behind him if he had the chance to pass him. Here we | :03:23. | :03:29.
go, riding with Valentino Rossi, and how many times have we seen these to | :03:30. | :03:34.
having a great scrap? It is the battle for sixth. Usually, Bautista | :03:35. | :03:38.
is in the middle of it, but he is further down the road, in fourth. In | :03:39. | :03:44.
between them, in fifth, is Bradl. Rossi has done a tremendous job to | :03:45. | :03:49.
bring it all back. Yes, he was 11th last time we checked. Yes, he has | :03:50. | :03:57.
done a now, he has got his brakes sorted out, I think it was just that | :03:58. | :04:01.
they got cooked up early on, and he had to let them settle down. Bryan | :04:02. | :04:10.
Staring, I am pretty certain, will be keeping out of the way. He has a | :04:11. | :04:13.
good look over his shoulder. Good boy. Yes, you do not want to get | :04:14. | :04:24.
yourself tangled up getting past somebody. Well done, Bryan Staring, | :04:25. | :04:30.
nice job. You would have to say, at the moment at least, unless there is | :04:31. | :04:37.
a problem with Lorenzo's tyres, Marquez appears to have accepted | :04:38. | :04:42.
this. But what I was saying was, the key for Dani Pedrosa would be at | :04:43. | :04:46.
least trying to close up on the back of Marquez, so that psychologically, | :04:47. | :04:51.
he can feel, yes, I was in touch. He won the last two rounds, but this | :04:52. | :04:59.
will be the only dispiriting. I think Marquez has kind of Reed | :05:00. | :05:02.
gathered. We saw him getting a bit out of shape. I am pretty certain he | :05:03. | :05:08.
has said to himself, this is not going to happen, I am not going to | :05:09. | :05:15.
win here. -- re-gathered. You can see his knee bouncing over the curbs | :05:16. | :05:19.
on the inside, absolute poetry in motion. He is as neat as a pin. If | :05:20. | :05:24.
you were to draw that, you could not make somebody more compact, more | :05:25. | :05:38.
economical, more in line and fast. STEVE PARRISH: That is Damian | :05:39. | :05:46.
Cudlin. CHARLIE COX: And that cost him. Now, | :05:47. | :05:57.
watch again, because if Lorenzo was there, someone else is coming. Good | :05:58. | :06:02.
man, he saw it that time, but that probably cost three tenths to | :06:03. | :06:10.
Lorenzo. Yes. Yes, I think Marquez has got a little sniff on that now. | :06:11. | :06:19.
There it is, 1.3, the gap. Rossi, like I say, still marching on. He | :06:20. | :06:24.
has got himself up into fifth, but he has got a long way to go to get | :06:25. | :06:29.
to Bradl, about four seconds in front. We have not said a lot about | :06:30. | :06:35.
Bautista, having a really good run. And he is two seconds ahead of | :06:36. | :06:38.
Stefan Bradl, so he is having a lonely ride, but a jolly useful one. | :06:39. | :06:49.
OK, it is not common to do this much Lappin, and this was costly. Yes, | :06:50. | :06:55.
right in the middle of the corner, there was no way he could get | :06:56. | :06:58.
underneath Damian Cudlin at that point, so he had to back off. The | :06:59. | :07:03.
Yamaha dies, not best pleased, but nothing you can do about it, it is | :07:04. | :07:09.
the same for everyone. The hardest thing is, as soon as the guys know | :07:10. | :07:16.
that he has come past, they are looking over their shoulder, so it | :07:17. | :07:25.
helps Marquez a little bit. Nothing nicer for Yamaha than to win a race | :07:26. | :07:29.
on their own circuit, at the Honda test track. He came in here leading | :07:30. | :07:38.
by 18 points, Marquez, and that will be down to 13 points, which will | :07:39. | :07:42.
still put enormous pressure on Lorenzo to deliver. And on the wing | :07:43. | :07:55.
account, it will mean Jorge Lorenzo has got seven wins, compared to six | :07:56. | :08:00.
four Marc Marquez, so he will actually need to finish in third | :08:01. | :08:06.
place, assuming Jorge Lorenzo wins. It has all gone horribly wrong, | :08:07. | :08:09.
following a massive advantage which he had at Philip Island. I know we | :08:10. | :08:23.
keep on talking about it. When we were in Aragon, we were looking down | :08:24. | :08:27.
the barrel of the rest of the races being dead rubbers, because the last | :08:28. | :08:34.
few races would be a formality. You could not have forecast what on | :08:35. | :08:38.
earth could possibly happen, you could not have foreseen Australia, | :08:39. | :08:42.
and then the calamity here as well with the weather, and the craziness | :08:43. | :08:47.
of everybody having to roll the dice and try new brakes. It is | :08:48. | :08:51.
extraordinary, what has happened. It has thrown a proper spanner in the | :08:52. | :08:55.
works, or certainly for Honda and Marc Marquez. You could not have got | :08:56. | :09:01.
odds on the Championship going all the way down to Valencia, but that | :09:02. | :09:04.
is what is going to happen, by the look of it. We are looking at the | :09:05. | :09:09.
Ducati 's, which have given us a lot of fun down the years. -- the | :09:10. | :09:12.
Ducatis. And running around in 11th position | :09:13. | :09:39.
at the moment is Nakasuga. You have got to say that possibly through no | :09:40. | :09:43.
fault of his own, Marc Marquez is having to think a fair bit more | :09:44. | :09:46.
about this Championship. I know he has only got one speed, but he is | :09:47. | :09:59.
being very smart here today. Damian Cudlin will be in trouble now for | :10:00. | :10:02.
holding up the race leader, Jorge Lorenzo, because it will be the fact | :10:03. | :10:07.
that he did not see the blue flags. So, he will get a point for that, | :10:08. | :10:15.
almost certainly, on his licence. Yes, he will be summoned. Michael | :10:16. | :10:22.
Laverty, in 19th position, just behind Petrucci at the moment. Not a | :10:23. | :10:31.
bad Australian accent there, you have used your couple of weeks down | :10:32. | :10:37.
under very well, Stephen. You would say that motorcycle is bent, | :10:38. | :10:41.
wouldn't you, but that is because the back wheel is off the ground, | :10:42. | :10:44.
and he has got the airbrake out nicely. That is extraordinary. The | :10:45. | :10:56.
size of that front disc, have a look at it. It makes the front wheel look | :10:57. | :10:58.
too small, but it works. He takes slow motion replays to a | :10:59. | :11:15.
new level, but the performance of Marc Marquez. And this guy, | :11:16. | :11:19.
perseverance, neatness, absolute focus and determination. If he had | :11:20. | :11:25.
not had that crash in N'Guessan, if he had not backed up with another | :11:26. | :11:29.
crash, with injury, in Germany, it could all be so different. This | :11:30. | :11:34.
race, we would be seeing him as Championship. . We could say the | :11:35. | :11:41.
same if Marc Marquez have not fallen off in Italy as well. Jorge Lorenzo | :11:42. | :11:46.
and Marc Marquez have probably been the standouts . any Pedrosa really | :11:47. | :11:50.
has not had the form that we saw at the end of last year. No, he was | :11:51. | :11:56.
really on a roll, wasn't he? So, there you go. They are just telling | :11:57. | :12:01.
him, that is fine, just ring it on home. Jorge Lorenzo qualified in | :12:02. | :12:08.
pole position, was the fastest man in the wet. Jorge Lorenzo was only | :12:09. | :12:13.
the fourth fastest man this morning in the dry, in the only other bit of | :12:14. | :12:17.
running they had around here. And he was behind Marquez, behind Pedrosa | :12:18. | :12:23.
and behind Bradl. But he knew what he had to do, went on the soft tyre, | :12:24. | :12:29.
took the chance, and it looks like it is paying off. The Yamaha, a | :12:30. | :12:34.
different type of weight distribution, different power | :12:35. | :12:38.
characteristics, different riding style from Jorge Lorenzo, and he has | :12:39. | :12:43.
got away with that soft tyre. He is about to come up with his 30th motor | :12:44. | :12:48.
GP win, and what a great ambassador he is for our sport. Casey Stoner | :12:49. | :12:59.
was in the high 30s, Valentino Rossi of course, but it is a massive | :13:00. | :13:02.
result for this man. And for Yamaha as well, at the Honda track. We have | :13:03. | :13:08.
got the President a here today, keeping an eye on it. Jorge Lorenzo | :13:09. | :13:13.
will be thinking, I hope we have got enough fuel here. He has got a long | :13:14. | :13:18.
straight coming up here now, and then coming through towards Victory | :13:19. | :13:33.
Corner. Through the left-hander. They are getting ready for him! He | :13:34. | :13:40.
comes into Victory Corner, and Jorge Lorenzo wins in Japan! Jorge Lorenzo | :13:41. | :13:49.
wins on Honda's own track. Second, Marc Marquez, third, Dani Pedrosa, | :13:50. | :13:52.
the Championship goes down to the wire, partner, in Valencia. It | :13:53. | :13:57.
certainly does. We have got 13 points in it. A very good ride from | :13:58. | :14:04.
Bautista, number 19, coming home in fourth position. Stefan Bradl, too, | :14:05. | :14:13.
riding through the pain, coming home in fifth. And Valentino Rossi, what | :14:14. | :14:17.
a recovery from the heart stopping moments he had early in the race, | :14:18. | :14:23.
running ride twice down at 90 Corner. And it looks like Dovizioso | :14:24. | :14:29.
has had some problems, dropping a long way back. I know he has got | :14:30. | :14:34.
some fuel problems, but he has dropped a long way back. Bike number | :14:35. | :14:42.
21, that was John Hopkins' old number, as well as Troy Bayliss's | :14:43. | :14:51.
old number, it is a good number! Bradley Smith had a very strong | :14:52. | :14:55.
ride, it went away from him a little in the latter stages, but he had a | :14:56. | :15:00.
brilliant start, and Rodwell. A good day for Yamaha all-round. After the | :15:01. | :15:06.
problems for Valentino Rossi, what is your take on people using these | :15:07. | :15:16.
new, egg brakes today? -- big brakes? I reckon he probably just | :15:17. | :15:21.
cooked up those discs a little bit. He has often had some brake | :15:22. | :15:25.
problems. He had some in separate this year in the traffic in the | :15:26. | :15:30.
first few laps. But I know that if you just get too much heat too | :15:31. | :15:36.
quickly, they do not really like it. But there is not a lot of choice in | :15:37. | :15:47.
the first few laps of a race. You saw the maps, 13 points is what is | :15:48. | :15:53.
needed. Dani Pedrosa is out of the championship. 36 points of the pace. | :15:54. | :16:00.
Another year, give it another go. He has got another contract. Valentino | :16:01. | :16:06.
Rossi is looking a very strong fourth place. Yamaha and Honda are | :16:07. | :16:14.
the top four in the world this year. That is the way it is looking. Dani | :16:15. | :16:20.
Pedrosa is going to start thinking to himself, there is nothing I can | :16:21. | :16:25.
do about this kid. He looked good at the beginning, looked very strong | :16:26. | :16:28.
and comfortable but could not keep the pace up. It will be interesting | :16:29. | :16:34.
to find out, whether it was the brakes, tyres or what. He could not | :16:35. | :16:39.
hold the pace. He has had to MotoGP wins, will be interesting. Michael | :16:40. | :16:52.
Laverty did get across the line. He did some good pushing. He has ran | :16:53. | :17:04.
out of fuel, Valentino Rossi. Got further than last year, because last | :17:05. | :17:09.
year he had to get a lift back. Cal Crutchlow made it over the line, | :17:10. | :17:15.
because he ran out of fuel. It is good fuel management. This guy did | :17:16. | :17:20.
not run out of fuel, how about that? He did not go as far as Valentino | :17:21. | :17:28.
Rossi, did he? Lorenzo laying out the flag for a bit. It was a great | :17:29. | :17:33.
ride and great encouragement for the team. They used to give the factory | :17:34. | :17:55.
Honda a run. Sensible afternoon. Got over the crash this morning. It is | :17:56. | :18:01.
going to make for a fantastic celebration in Valencia. They will | :18:02. | :18:06.
all be thinking, I hope this works out. Otherwise we will be out of a | :18:07. | :18:14.
job. Yes, they will be thinking they will get throttled for making the | :18:15. | :18:19.
pit stop. He is not a happy camper. I am sure we will find out what his | :18:20. | :18:25.
issues where, if there were any. Colin Edwards, as I said, top CRT, | :18:26. | :18:32.
finishing 12th out right. That will do. So, seven wins now for Jorge | :18:33. | :18:52.
Lorenzo this season. Lorenzo's land is a Honda test track. Can you | :18:53. | :18:56.
imagine explaining that to the board of Honda, what happened? Honda won | :18:57. | :19:01.
the championship last year with six wins. This year he has had six | :19:02. | :19:09.
already. It shows how hard he has been run by Marquez. It has been a | :19:10. | :19:19.
two-man show all year. He is doing everything he can. All he can do | :19:20. | :19:24.
from here is make it hard for the other guy. That is the other guy. | :19:25. | :19:31.
Always smiling. Azi Farni can put her umbrella down | :19:32. | :20:07.
and do her own job now. 42.31 seconds last time. A slower race. I | :20:08. | :20:15.
think, as I said, one of the compromises as far as set up is | :20:16. | :20:19.
concerned. I think he did a good job, Stefan Bradl. He would not have | :20:20. | :20:25.
expected that when he was in hospital three weeks ago. OK, that | :20:26. | :20:40.
was a top, top ride. He does not even know what time it is. He was in | :20:41. | :20:46.
pole position and he won the race. A great ride, Azi Farni? This could | :20:47. | :20:56.
not have gone more perfect for year with the championship going down to | :20:57. | :20:58.
the final race in Valencia in two weeks? Yes. We knew at the end of | :20:59. | :21:12.
the race we could have problems. And I could improve my lap time and get | :21:13. | :21:20.
away. Maybe I could have slowed down a bit and raise with the group, but | :21:21. | :21:27.
I chose this way. I am very happy. Great motivation for Valencia now. | :21:28. | :21:31.
Congratulations. He chanced his arm on the tyres and it did pay off in | :21:32. | :21:37.
the end. It was a gamble and this is confirmation. Just a tiny bit | :21:38. | :21:48.
slower, three seconds slower across the race distance from last time. | :21:49. | :21:54.
They had to work with it. Marc Marquez, probably the smart way to | :21:55. | :21:59.
play it. Marc, congratulations, you have caught up with Jorge and we | :22:00. | :22:04.
thought you could pass. Was he just faster? Today I knew it would be | :22:05. | :22:12.
difficult. Because it was my first time here with MotoGP. We practised | :22:13. | :22:20.
yesterday in rainy conditions. And for one lap this morning, I was OK. | :22:21. | :22:28.
Also with the setup, we were faster. But I was one part of the race I was | :22:29. | :22:34.
a little bit faster than Jorge, but in the end he pushed quite a lot. I | :22:35. | :22:41.
thought it was too much risk. So we will have another race. Smart | :22:42. | :22:48.
thinking. Strategy was what was going on. Look at that facility. | :22:49. | :22:55.
Great to look at, this place. The most extraordinary race setup. 13 | :22:56. | :23:04.
points the between the two of them. It is all over the Danni, sadly. | :23:05. | :23:10.
Danni, sadly the championship is over for you. But a good podium, | :23:11. | :23:14.
what happened in that race? It is such a good start but it seemed to | :23:15. | :23:20.
fall off at the end? The start was not so bad, then I lost two | :23:21. | :23:25.
positions. We did not drive so much in the dry this weekend. After | :23:26. | :23:33.
Rossi's mistake I was third. I was planning to put some good pace, but | :23:34. | :23:39.
I was spinning on the rear wheel. It was spinning more than normal. I | :23:40. | :23:44.
tried to do my best today but I was not able to follow Jorge and Marc. I | :23:45. | :23:51.
lost touch and you know... This is like this. That is the way it goes. | :23:52. | :24:00.
He has got to laugh about it. He is still coming third in the world. 25 | :24:01. | :24:07.
points behind Lorenzo and a further 13 on top of that behind his | :24:08. | :24:11.
team-mate, Marc Marquez. A gamble for Jorge going for the softer tyre. | :24:12. | :24:18.
They have not done a lot of testing. He would have sat down with his | :24:19. | :24:22.
Bridgestone engineers and data guys and try to work it out. And you | :24:23. | :24:29.
could see. That was a replay, it does not happen that often. Kissed | :24:30. | :24:34.
and made up. Colin Edwards, I don't know what you said to him before the | :24:35. | :24:41.
race, but it obviously worked? I will have to tell him I am not | :24:42. | :24:45.
available for Valencia now. A great race. You were a good look charm, we | :24:46. | :24:52.
will have to put you on the payroll. I am not sure what happened with | :24:53. | :24:58.
Espargaro. Something happened with the brakes, I am not sure. I put my | :24:59. | :25:07.
head down and started hammering out some good laps. I got away from | :25:08. | :25:14.
Randy De Puniet. I rode my backside off. I promised my guys a couple of | :25:15. | :25:20.
weeks ago when I had the mistake in Malaysia. I said, I'm not sure about | :25:21. | :25:24.
Australia because I don't know how this bike will work, but I will do | :25:25. | :25:33.
it at Motegi. It worked. It was a great job. I am still scratching my | :25:34. | :25:39.
head as to what happened to desperado. It looked like it was a | :25:40. | :25:48.
brake issue. I think the body politics of this is very | :25:49. | :25:52.
interesting, Steve. There was a handshake between Lorenzo and | :25:53. | :25:58.
Marquez, worthy of a replay, because they have treatment because of the | :25:59. | :26:04.
way he was treated at the start of the year. Marquez has some great | :26:05. | :26:11.
speed, but no friends. You don't, if you are fast, no one likes you. I | :26:12. | :26:19.
was always friendly to you! It wasn't that funny. They are talking | :26:20. | :26:25.
now, it is good. Cal Crutchlow, seventh. Spanish is the language of | :26:26. | :26:45.
the championship. There we go, we will have three Spanish flags and | :26:46. | :26:48.
the Spanish national anthem, not for the first time. It is a surprise, | :26:49. | :26:56.
isn't it! This is what you need for the MotoGP series. All you need as a | :26:57. | :27:05.
rule. Great run the Yamaha. They won here in 1966, when the Japanese | :27:06. | :27:14.
Grand Prix was raced at at a different circuit. Yamaha and Suzuki | :27:15. | :27:25.
had a win here at 1966. Valencia is federally, could do it in a car | :27:26. | :27:29.
park. Will it make a difference? I think it will be who can keep their | :27:30. | :27:34.
cool Alberta. Marc Marquez will try to finish on the podium and that | :27:35. | :27:43.
will do the job. -- cool out there. I am sure Honda will have a word | :27:44. | :27:48.
with Dani Pedrosa. They would be foolish not to. Dani Pedrosa, and | :27:49. | :27:56.
wholesaler Lorenzo is very neat around Valencia. -- Jorge Lorenzo. | :27:57. | :28:03.
It is whether Rossi can help out Lorenzo. Lots to think about before | :28:04. | :28:09.
we go to Spain. It will be a full on Spanish fiesta | :28:10. | :28:15.
at Valencia in two weeks. Back the normal time of 12:30pm on BBC Two. | :28:16. | :28:20.
Who will be celebrating at their home race? Will it be Jorge Lorenzo | :28:21. | :28:28.
or Marc Marquez after all? After self weekend at Motegi, the MotoGP | :28:29. | :28:32.
World Championship 2013 is going to the wire. We will see you in a | :28:33. | :28:35.
couple of weeks. | :28:36. | :28:42. |
