Good evening and welcome to the BBC's Special Olympic torch relay | :00:06. | :00:11.
programme. From Darley Park in the city of Derby were along with | :00:11. | :00:21.
:00:21. | :00:55. | ||
thousands of people, we await the Good evening of from beautiful | :00:55. | :01:03.
Darley Park. We are situated on the River Derwent, a gateway to a World | :01:03. | :01:06.
Heritage Site. Five biggest countryside just a walk away from | :01:06. | :01:11.
the centre of Derby. This is usually a haven of peace and | :01:11. | :01:15.
tranquillity. I do not think you can say that this evening. There | :01:15. | :01:19.
are thousands of people here but more importantly I have with me | :01:19. | :01:24.
Colin Jackson, one of the greatest athletes of this country. Welcome | :01:24. | :01:30.
to Derby. Thank you very much indeed. I am so excited to be here. | :01:31. | :01:36.
People are still pouring into this part. It is just sensational and | :01:36. | :01:40.
all for a very good reason. know more about it than most | :01:40. | :01:45.
because the main reason we are here, you were a torch-bearer. I was | :01:45. | :01:50.
lucky enough to carry the torch in Swansea. One of the city's I have | :01:50. | :01:56.
trained in for the Olympic Games. special moment for everyone who has | :01:56. | :02:01.
carried the torch. It started this morning when it left Nottingham | :02:01. | :02:11.
:02:11. | :02:43. | ||
Castle and here are just a few It brings back so many memories | :02:43. | :02:48.
seeing all those beautiful shots and it excites me to know that | :02:48. | :02:51.
other people when experience exactly the same five but I did. | :02:51. | :02:57.
There was a lot of tingling going on everywhere. They did say this is | :02:57. | :03:01.
usually a quiet place, lots of wild life, different kind of wildlife | :03:01. | :03:08.
tonight. Overhead you can often see Peregrine's. They are not here | :03:08. | :03:15.
tonight but we do have a Sky -- I in the sky. Yes, the torch is | :03:15. | :03:21.
continuing apace towards you and Colin. At the moment it is in St | :03:21. | :03:27.
Mary's Gate, it has just past the cathedral, a large crowd outside | :03:27. | :03:34.
the Cathedral. A long Ashbourne Road, big crowds as well, Derby's | :03:34. | :03:39.
historic mile. People turning out in force to see this historic event. | :03:39. | :03:46.
It will then go down the Strand, St James's Street and into marketplace | :03:46. | :03:52.
where there are very big crowds indeed. It is great to have though | :03:53. | :03:57.
shot up there as well. It gives you an idea of how many people. We | :03:57. | :04:04.
reckon they could be 20,000 people here at Darling Park tonight. -- | :04:04. | :04:10.
Darley Park. The Games is literally on our doorstep and that is what | :04:10. | :04:14.
excites everybody. Many of the athletes who will take part here at | :04:14. | :04:18.
the Games will understand how much as the board they are getting from | :04:18. | :04:22.
the British public. When they see so many people turning up to accept | :04:22. | :04:28.
the torch, that is a special moment for them and they will realise that. | :04:28. | :04:33.
They have the whole of the UK as a fan base. Wonderful! There was a | :04:33. | :04:38.
concern that the Olympics would not touch people outside of London but | :04:38. | :04:43.
that has been blown out of the water. Absolutely. I thank | :04:43. | :04:46.
everybody in the regions for showing their support because it | :04:46. | :04:51.
from make a difference. If we are high above the crowds, looking down | :04:51. | :04:57.
on everyone. Lot of people have spotted Colin Jackson already. They | :04:57. | :05:02.
just keep coming in. They are pouring in, left right and centre. | :05:02. | :05:05.
There was a time when I was thinking surely it would stop | :05:05. | :05:11.
because we will run out of Ram but no, people are still coming. | :05:11. | :05:15.
whole journey of the torch started much earlier today from Nottingham | :05:15. | :05:25.
:05:25. | :05:29. | ||
Castle. It made its way to Bolsover Castle. Into Chatsworth and Quentin | :05:29. | :05:39.
:05:39. | :05:47. | ||
Rayner has been looking back at the As the band struck up at Nottingham | :05:47. | :05:52.
Castle, nothing this time was raining on this parade. Legend has | :05:52. | :05:56.
it that Robin Hood was a man of give and take, but like the Olympic | :05:56. | :06:02.
torch relay. Barbara Green was the first torch-bearer of the day as | :06:02. | :06:05.
the flame set off on his journey from Nottingham Castle to Derby. | :06:05. | :06:15.
:06:15. | :06:19. | ||
From bolivar to Bolivar the torch lit up the packed streets of | :06:19. | :06:24.
Nottingham as it headed north of the city. At the Ellis Guilford | :06:24. | :06:29.
school there was a shelf for medal- winning swimmer. It has been such | :06:29. | :06:32.
an honour and there are so many people that would love to do | :06:32. | :06:37.
something like this and I'm fortunate enough to do it. Ruins | :06:37. | :06:41.
and running around in tandem in the shape of Adam Crump, the commanding | :06:41. | :06:44.
officer of Nottingham Sea cadets and then the torch with delivered | :06:44. | :06:48.
to Derbyshire. They lined the streets of Bramley Vale to cheer | :06:48. | :06:51.
one Jonathan Shelton. Bolsover provided the second cousin of the | :06:51. | :06:57.
day in the East Midlands. Michel encourages primary children to take | :06:57. | :07:02.
up athletics. This was one inspirational at less than. In Calo | :07:02. | :07:06.
they do things differently. Katy Wilson and Adam Gouldson exchanged | :07:06. | :07:11.
an Olympic kiss and after a salute, he marched on. Chesterfield saw | :07:11. | :07:17.
some of the biggest crowds of the day. In Matlock, Dominic Cunningham | :07:17. | :07:21.
was flipping overjoyed the torch had come to town. That was amazing. | :07:21. | :07:26.
The atmosphere was brilliant. I can't get over it, I want to do it | :07:26. | :07:32.
again. His wish came true. He took the torch to new heights. The | :07:32. | :07:37.
Heights of Abraham, high over the Derwent Valley. The reception party | :07:37. | :07:43.
was Bonsal Primary. The torch's stately progress continued through | :07:43. | :07:49.
the grounds of Chatsworth House. Bakewell was bursting at the seams | :07:49. | :07:54.
and to welcome the torch. This was one Mac torturous route through | :07:54. | :07:59.
great swathes of the East Midlands to get to Derby. But what a day for | :07:59. | :08:07.
Derbyshire. You are now watching live pictures | :08:07. | :08:11.
from our helicopter. That is the case for taking place. Did you have | :08:11. | :08:18.
to do with the keys with yours? it was the proud this case I have | :08:18. | :08:24.
ever done. You can watch people taking pictures from roofs of | :08:25. | :08:29.
buildings so it is really getting an effect on the whole nation. | :08:29. | :08:35.
are an athlete. He performed at how many Olympic Games? Four. You are | :08:35. | :08:39.
used to running in front of crowds, hearing the applause. Was that | :08:39. | :08:45.
different carrying the torch amongst the people? Yes, by far | :08:45. | :08:51.
because it is about the emotion of the sport. You think about how you | :08:51. | :08:57.
and why you are carrying the torch. It is a truly wonderful feeling. An | :08:57. | :09:00.
experience that I wish everyone could have. Lots of people have | :09:00. | :09:06.
been screaming your name. Somebody else is in the crowd, your namesake, | :09:06. | :09:15.
Colin. It is just brilliant down here. The crowd are thoroughly | :09:15. | :09:22.
enjoying themselves. Incredible excitement. Gay men -'s job has | :09:22. | :09:29.
been to get everyone excited about this. We have set out to inspire a | :09:29. | :09:35.
generation and we have succeeded. Your job now is to turn this into a | :09:35. | :09:40.
lasting legacy. Definitely. We have laid a good foundation but the | :09:40. | :09:45.
autumn will be crucial. When the Olympics and Paralympics are in | :09:45. | :09:49.
children's heads and hearts and we have to capitalise than. The torch | :09:49. | :09:53.
has done astonishing things for that. The torch has been a | :09:53. | :10:01.
brilliant. I was in Matlock earlier today, a young gymnasts came in, | :10:01. | :10:07.
did a flare up and we all went mad. It will be really wonderful tonight. | :10:07. | :10:14.
Thank you. The crowd are loving it down here. I am not surprised. The | :10:14. | :10:19.
flame is in Derby market place and it from not be a very long before | :10:19. | :10:23.
it arrives here at Darley Park and head its way right the way through | :10:23. | :10:27.
the crowd. The people all waiting to see the cauldron actually been | :10:27. | :10:34.
lit. That is its journey it will take their and it is going a long | :10:34. | :10:40.
second battalion Mercians. They are back from a tour of Afghanistan. | :10:40. | :10:43.
Very exciting moment for them because it takes a bit of courage | :10:43. | :10:48.
for them to be there. They know the whole world is watching this. These | :10:48. | :10:53.
pictures do not just stay in the UK. I was in the States and watching | :10:53. | :10:59.
recently the torch being followed by people in America. This is what | :10:59. | :11:05.
is happening, it is happening -- having an effect globally. | :11:05. | :11:08.
Incredible. Darley Park, you are tonight international. We have been | :11:08. | :11:14.
talking about torch-bearers, we have seen so many of their | :11:14. | :11:19.
magnificent stories and this next one is just the same. | :11:19. | :11:23.
It has been a long road to recovery for Clary. She was overjoyed when | :11:23. | :11:29.
she was told she would be carrying the torch. I do not know what you | :11:29. | :11:35.
say when someone says, I had nominated due for the torch. Then | :11:35. | :11:39.
queue does not seem enough. Chloe was 19 when she lost her leg in a | :11:39. | :11:44.
hit and run crash in Nottingham. But she is not resentful or bitter. | :11:44. | :11:49.
She seemed so positive. You have to accept that in life it is not all | :11:49. | :11:55.
happiness. It has been two-and-a- half years and 25 operations, but | :11:55. | :12:00.
she is still studying fashion at Nottingham Trent University. I have | :12:00. | :12:05.
come through so much to get to work -- where I want to get to and it is | :12:05. | :12:09.
nice that someone has noticed. her, carrying the flame symbolises | :12:09. | :12:17.
so much. I had this great thing to do. It is something to aim for in | :12:17. | :12:23.
your life. I will cherish the memory for ever. Admiring Chloe | :12:23. | :12:28.
carrying the ultimate fashion accessory, her mum and sister. | :12:28. | :12:32.
is going to do so well with her life because she is so positive. It | :12:32. | :12:38.
is amazing. Really proud of her. She is my hero. What thoughts went | :12:38. | :12:44.
through your mind? That I cannot believe I am doing it. It is the | :12:44. | :12:49.
main thought. It is finally here. Does it put to accident in the | :12:49. | :12:57.
background? Yes, it is just a vague them -- memory. | :12:57. | :13:01.
And lovely clary is with me now. Were you as happy as you looked | :13:01. | :13:10.
then? Yes. Sell me how you found out. You were asked to go and see | :13:10. | :13:14.
your university chancellor and you thought the worst. I was like, oh | :13:14. | :13:19.
my gosh. Thinking what abide done now? I have been called into the | :13:19. | :13:28.
office, it is the worst thing that could be happening. He asked you if | :13:28. | :13:33.
you would carry the torch. You are an inspiration. What is amazing is | :13:33. | :13:38.
what you have done for people who do have disabilities. It inspired | :13:38. | :13:43.
you with your future career. It has definitely. What will you do? A | :13:43. | :13:49.
clothing line? I am setting up a company for fashionable disable | :13:49. | :13:53.
clothing and I think fashionable should be accessible to all kinds | :13:53. | :14:01.
of people. We are moving in that direction. You have a top tip. For | :14:01. | :14:09.
next season? May be something in gold? Thank you and congratulations. | :14:09. | :14:14.
Let's go back up to Simon in the sky somewhere above us. | :14:14. | :14:20.
The torch is now reaching the top of all street. Is when past the | :14:20. | :14:24.
Statue of Bonnie Prince Charlie, he famously turned round when he got | :14:24. | :14:28.
to Derby but the torch is continuing. It is heading towards | :14:28. | :14:32.
you at Darley Park. The crowds in the marketplace and around the | :14:32. | :14:36.
council house were amazing, reminiscent of 40 years ago when | :14:36. | :14:43.
Brian Clough and the team paraded their trophy 35 years ago. It is | :14:43. | :14:51.
now in Queen St, so it is really towards Duffield rode, so it will | :14:51. | :14:55.
be on the final leg towards you at Darley Park. | :14:55. | :15:00.
That is amazing. We are all looking forward to it. That torch obviously | :15:00. | :15:04.
arriving here at the park but I have a very special guest with me. | :15:04. | :15:09.
He had a big smile on your face. haven't stopped smiling all day. | :15:09. | :15:14.
Such a good day. Everybody needs to know, how do you find out that | :15:14. | :15:18.
you've got that magical moment a head? I got selected through my | :15:19. | :15:22.
university because I won the British Championships twice for | :15:22. | :15:29.
them. The Vice Chancellor called me into his office and asked me. It | :15:29. | :15:34.
was all the way back in December. You are a very talented table | :15:34. | :15:39.
tennis player. You are ranked number four in England. The | :15:39. | :15:44.
Commonwealth Games must be the goal for you now. Yes, looking forward | :15:44. | :15:50.
to that. I am very pleased and proud. I certainly know what the | :15:50. | :15:58.
experiences are in carrying that torch. She is very jealous we are | :15:58. | :16:06.
both torch-bearers. I am feeling a bit left out. You can hold it. | :16:06. | :16:14.
a great? Of the best thing ever. Thank you. The torch goes all | :16:14. | :16:20.
abound but occasionally it has a bit of a stayer over somewhere and | :16:20. | :16:23.
they raised one score in Matlock that was able to keep the torch for | :16:23. | :16:33.
:16:33. | :16:39. | ||
The whole school turned out on the playing field for a festival of | :16:39. | :16:42.
celebrations with a sporting feel. There were races - of course - of a | :16:42. | :16:45.
conventional nature but the sack race - well, I don't THINK it's | :16:45. | :16:48.
currently an Olympic sport! The band played their Olympic anthem | :16:48. | :16:54.
and dancers danced. It is a very special day. The torch all be here | :16:54. | :16:59.
later, so I am sure everybody is absolutely excited about that. | :16:59. | :17:03.
there was also a chance to hear from a real life Olympian - Casey | :17:03. | :17:06.
Stoney will play for Team GB women's football team. It is very | :17:06. | :17:14.
cool that we get to meet her. It is amazing. Very exciting. At one | :17:14. | :17:17.
point the rain fell but that didn't dent the enthusiasm of the six form | :17:17. | :17:21.
organisers. We are privileged enough to have the Olympic torch | :17:21. | :17:27.
coming here, so we thought it would be a great way to kick-start that. | :17:27. | :17:31.
Everybody realises how privileged we are commanded us a everybody in | :17:31. | :17:37.
the Olympic spirit. Everybody is so enthusiastic about it. But of | :17:37. | :17:40.
course the high point was waiting for the torch to arrive so the | :17:40. | :17:44.
flame could be handed on for a trip on the heights of Abraham cable car. | :17:44. | :17:47.
And the big moment - Dominic Cunningham, top gymnast for team GB, | :17:47. | :17:50.
transporting the torch and himself in suitable style for the flame to | :17:50. | :18:00.
:18:00. | :18:02. | ||
be handed on TWICE from here for its onward journey. | :18:02. | :18:07.
I do not ever get tired of saying that flame and that torch. I | :18:07. | :18:14.
thought I would, but I don't. never get tired of it. The flame | :18:14. | :18:21.
and torture itself has become a national emblem. Every time I take | :18:21. | :18:27.
school visits, I always take the torch with me. People get so | :18:27. | :18:32.
excited. They see it and feel part of the Olympic Games. Talking about | :18:32. | :18:39.
the games, you were part of the Olympic bed. Did you don't believe | :18:39. | :18:49.
:18:49. | :18:49. | ||
we would get it? In 2005, when we sat in a final decisions room, we | :18:49. | :18:54.
hoped that we could get it. We were never sure. A lot of the press and | :18:54. | :19:00.
media always stating it would be in Paris. But we hoped and had this | :19:00. | :19:03.
massive desire that we could pull it off. And when they announced | :19:03. | :19:08.
London, it was special! And this is the reason why everybody is here | :19:08. | :19:15.
today. It is the reason. People have taken up to their hearts. | :19:15. | :19:20.
they have loved every single moment of it. I feel proud I was part of a | :19:20. | :19:27.
bid team to create this amazing atmosphere across the whole country. | :19:27. | :19:36.
In the middle of this atmosphere, is Colin. | :19:36. | :19:41.
Lots of people are learning what it is like to be torch bearers. Not | :19:41. | :19:47.
many people get to do both - a Olympians and torch bearers. Me the | :19:47. | :19:56.
youngest person to go with Team GB in 2010. You have seen the | :19:56. | :20:01.
experience today. What is it like? Are the atmosphere has been amazing. | :20:01. | :20:08.
I am so excited. It is quite amazing for me to look at someone | :20:08. | :20:12.
who has been to an Olympics, getting excited about carrying the | :20:12. | :20:17.
torch. It is fantastic. The Olympics was an amazing experience | :20:17. | :20:23.
for me in 2010, but to be carrying the torch in England is a very | :20:23. | :20:29.
exciting was stub you are looking forward to starting in 2014? | :20:30. | :20:39.
:20:40. | :20:45. | ||
Absolutely. I will bring back the Let us hope she does! Yes, and you | :20:45. | :20:55.
can see true and genuine enthusiasm. You have to have that desire and | :20:55. | :21:01.
believe. Absolutely. You really need to have that single-minded and | :21:01. | :21:06.
pure focus if you will dedicate your whole life to winning a title. | :21:06. | :21:12.
If you are thinking of doing that, it is well worth doing! We have | :21:12. | :21:18.
been talking about torch bearers. So many people have such incredible | :21:18. | :21:28.
:21:28. | :21:28. | ||
stories to tell. Tales of going against the odds. | :21:28. | :21:31.
His work with the Nottingham Sea Cadets has earned Adam Crump this | :21:31. | :21:34.
honour. For two decades, he's been teaching and fund-raising for young | :21:34. | :21:37.
cadets. Some of them ran with him all the way today but it wasn't | :21:37. | :21:47.
:21:47. | :21:49. | ||
plain sailing. This is Peak And in Glapwell village it was a | :21:49. | :21:55.
full turnout. Like a fish to water, Imogen Clark feels most at home | :21:55. | :21:58.
when swimming. She overcame severe exthma and asthma, which meant she | :21:59. | :22:04.
spent years in intensive care. But today she swapped the swimming pool | :22:04. | :22:14.
:22:14. | :22:16. | ||
for dry land in Buxton. Most of my friends are coming to watch me. | :22:16. | :22:18.
She's only 13 but already she's beaten a record Rebecca Adlington | :22:18. | :22:28.
:22:28. | :22:29. | ||
set at the same age. Life's what you make it - that's Kya's motto | :22:29. | :22:34.
and she should know. Being brought through the care system, I know it | :22:34. | :22:38.
is hard and you do not always get what you want and need. But with me, | :22:38. | :22:42.
I knew I wanted to help other people. And that's what she's been | :22:42. | :22:45.
doing, campaigning to help other children in care. But today is her | :22:45. | :22:53.
big day. To be bringing it into the city, and to be the first one to | :22:53. | :23:02.
pass it on to the next person is amazing. | :23:02. | :23:07.
From one extraordinary youngster to the parents of an extraordinary | :23:07. | :23:17.
:23:17. | :23:18. | ||
swimmers. It is delightful to have you. I must admit, I was on Twitter | :23:18. | :23:23.
a little earlier, and I saw Rebecca had tweeted the fact she picked up | :23:23. | :23:32.
her kit today. Did you see the one with the sunglasses on? Yes. | :23:32. | :23:36.
she had her headband on as well! think it was probably one of those | :23:36. | :23:42.
things. She was so keen to play down mentally, all of a sudden, she | :23:42. | :23:51.
picked circuit up and has gone, nobody is! How important is it to | :23:52. | :23:59.
pick a picket? It is one of these things as well, it is a time to | :23:59. | :24:02.
share that experience with your family. You want to bring your kit | :24:02. | :24:10.
home and say, have a look at this! We must admit, we do get some stuff | :24:10. | :24:18.
away! Let us hope she does not ask us to watch it for her! There are | :24:18. | :24:23.
70 kilos! You are going down to watch us wimple stub we are. What | :24:23. | :24:30.
they argue down there? For her event. I guess, the pressure must | :24:30. | :24:37.
be on. She wants to repeat that double when she made in Beijing. | :24:37. | :24:40.
Hopefully, she can enjoy it these games because she has already got | :24:40. | :24:45.
medals, and she can sit back and relax and enjoy everything. That is | :24:45. | :24:50.
a very nice way of looking at it. I always assumed to the pressure | :24:50. | :25:00.
would be doubled. She is very focused. It is a once-in-a-lifetime | :25:00. | :25:07.
thing. When she gets it there, it is a four years on from last time, | :25:07. | :25:10.
we know the slate is wiped clean and it is what you do wonder day. | :25:10. | :25:16.
But just to take part in the home Olympics will be incredibly special. | :25:17. | :25:21.
We have just heard the flame is on Duffield rode. You were special | :25:21. | :25:29.
guest of honour yesterday? Yes, we got rather wet! Still a fantastic | :25:29. | :25:38.
time. He also went down to Team GB headquarters at the stadium? Yes. | :25:38. | :25:44.
That will be the place for all the friends and families to meet the | :25:44. | :25:49.
Olympians. And to socialise without any extra hassle. There is no | :25:49. | :25:53.
prayers aloud in there was dubbed it is just a place of calm? That is | :25:53. | :25:58.
right. There are photos of all the athletes on the wall, even when | :25:58. | :26:04.
they we youngsters. You heard Colin there, but it is for the families. | :26:04. | :26:10.
He said earlier he would be spending a lot of time in the | :26:10. | :26:15.
swimming pool. We will throw him out if we see him! I am a nice boy, | :26:15. | :26:22.
really! Has relied change to, now that you really do have an | :26:22. | :26:30.
international superstar as a daughter? Not really, no. We still | :26:30. | :26:37.
go to work, still do the shopping and washing. Bheki's life has | :26:37. | :26:42.
changed. I guess the only way our lives have changed is that more | :26:42. | :26:47.
people come up to last, particularly now, and parked on | :26:47. | :26:54.
goodwill messages of support. our laughter Becky. Enjoy the rest | :26:54. | :26:59.
of the evening. We mentioned at those pictures on Twitter of | :26:59. | :27:03.
Rebecca, and we asked you to send pictures of you following the flame. | :27:03. | :27:08.
And you have done. They have been sent 10 in their hundreds. They are | :27:08. | :27:18.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 62 seconds | :27:18. | :28:21.
The torch is very newly-wed the cars. There it is. There at the | :28:21. | :28:26.
live pictures are from our helicopter. You run it really | :28:26. | :28:33.
enjoying every moment of it. And who can blame him? We keep using | :28:33. | :28:38.
the word is special, but it is. When you are running the torch, you | :28:38. | :28:43.
think to yourself while! I have arrived here and I really feel part | :28:43. | :28:51.
of the Olympics. There are 1,000 torches, 8,000 miles will be | :28:51. | :28:56.
covered, and 8,000 memories. Looking behind me, I think there | :28:56. | :29:03.
will be more than 1,000 memories. We must have 20,000 people down | :29:03. | :29:12.
there. Let us join Colin. It must be at least that. If you noticed | :29:12. | :29:19.
the Union Jack nails earlier, they were pretty special. Why have you | :29:19. | :29:26.
come down here? It is a once-in-a- lifetime chance. Amazing atmosphere. | :29:26. | :29:35.
It has been pretty good. Let us move go along the crowd at a little | :29:35. | :29:42.
bet. Just it down here, we can see a few more people waving their | :29:42. | :29:49.
flags. Why have you come down here? Such a good atmosphere. Love it! | :29:49. | :29:58.
There has been brilliant. One more person. Just here. I you're looking | :29:58. | :30:07.
for to sing the torch? Yes. It is history. Absolutely right. The | :30:07. | :30:16.
torch is very close. Not far away now. | :30:16. | :30:24.
It is very close indeed. This flame, it is more than a normal flame. It | :30:24. | :30:29.
comes all the way from Greece, and Greeks believe it has a divine | :30:29. | :30:33.
connotations because it was stolen from the gods. It symbolises so | :30:33. | :30:43.
:30:43. | :30:43. | ||
much. Yes, it brings the whole engagement of people. What it | :30:43. | :30:48.
stands for, and every time you see it as an athlete, burning in the | :30:48. | :30:54.
stadium, it always reminds you why you are here. It is those very | :30:54. | :30:58.
individual thoughts that go along with the process. The flame first | :30:58. | :31:07.
made his way into the modern Olympics in 1928, and the Olympic | :31:07. | :31:11.
creed was the devised. It says the most important thing is not to win, | :31:11. | :31:18.
but to take part. Just as in life, the triumph is not the important | :31:18. | :31:23.
thing but the struggle. Every single one of the torch bearers | :31:23. | :31:30.
have those stories, and that is the beauty of it. Everybody will agree | :31:30. | :31:33.
with this statement. You think how many years ago the modern-day | :31:33. | :31:38.
Olympic Games started, and those words still have residents a -- | :31:38. | :31:48.
resonance today. Because we will wait until that flame arrives it, | :31:48. | :31:58.
:31:58. | :31:58. | ||
then we will join flame Britain a little later run. The whole | :31:58. | :32:05.
entourage, as he was saying earlier, is very exciting. Absolutely. You | :32:05. | :32:11.
can see many different coaches there, with dancers on, to enthuse | :32:11. | :32:17.
people in the audience. As those buses get closer, you start to get | :32:17. | :32:24.
a little bit more nervous. This is the time when you are thinking, my | :32:24. | :32:33.
time is nigh! And the fantastic thing... There appears! The torch | :32:33. | :32:41.
case. I can turn you now the person who will carry that torch end | :32:41. | :32:47.
through the park and like the cauldron is James. He is a former | :32:47. | :32:56.
English motorcycle racer. He is the World Super bike racer. You know | :32:56. | :33:04.
you, don't you? Yes. I had done many programmes with him. Full of | :33:04. | :33:09.
energy. For him to have this honour of bringing the torch into the | :33:09. | :33:14.
stadium and into the party itself is amazing. The noise that is being | :33:14. | :33:20.
created behind us is sensational. There is a tingle. There his | :33:20. | :33:24.
enthusiasm here. I really hope that all these people will be glued to | :33:25. | :33:31.
the TV and support every single athlete here. Look at everybody's | :33:31. | :33:36.
faces a stop they are enthralled by everything. I think everyone will | :33:36. | :33:43.
be watching the Olympics, remembering tonight. And that is | :33:43. | :33:46.
what will be interesting - they will recognise some of the faces | :33:46. | :33:53.
and say we supported them and we were part of the Olympic Games. I | :33:53. | :33:58.
am getting more excited! Just over there, that is where it will be | :33:58. | :34:08.
:34:08. | :34:13. | ||
coming in. Quite a nice runway. think there will be approaching. | :34:14. | :34:23.
:34:24. | :34:49. | ||
The code is arrive at first, don't The crowd a little bit more subdued. | :34:49. | :34:59.

goes out with Katie Mellor were now. I think they are engaged. He is | :35:47. | :35:52.
worming his way all the way through. You can see just the top of the | :35:53. | :36:02.
:36:03. | :36:03. | ||
flame there. You think, I do not on the flame to go out. But going | :36:03. | :36:12.
round the corner, very shortly. And there he is. And there is that | :36:12. | :36:22.
flame. And there are thousands of people here in Derby. This is | :36:22. | :36:32.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 62 seconds | :36:32. | :37:17.
And here we go. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. It Let us welcome Colin. Hello, | :37:17. | :37:24.
everyone! It needs to be bigger than that, because you are live on | :37:24. | :37:34.
BBC one. Big chair! Big applause for everybody being alive. I was | :37:34. | :37:42.
awestruck by that. I am very proud to be Derby at this moment in time. | :37:42. | :37:52.
:37:52. | :37:53. | ||
Of course, the flame or stay here in Derby tonight. We will be | :37:53. | :37:56.
looking after it entered the steps of tomorrow. | :37:56. | :38:00.
What a day it's been for all of us all the thousands of people who've | :38:00. | :38:03.
lined the streets and roads to follow the flame. Tomorrow it | :38:03. | :38:06. |
