Welcome back to a gorgeously hot day in Rio. We are heading into the late | :00:53. | :01:00.
afternoon here in Brazil and into the evening. Good crowds Inbee Park. | :01:01. | :01:05.
Sadly, in most stadiums, that is not the case. Here in the velodrome | :01:06. | :01:10.
there is such a strong British presence, every time a rider goes | :01:11. | :01:15.
out onto the track, there is a huge roar. It is like competing in a home | :01:16. | :01:20.
games. Laura Trott and Mark Cavendish are the main people we are | :01:21. | :01:31.
concentrating on. Here are the headlines on day ten. | :01:32. | :01:33.
Charlotte Dujardin and the wonderful Valegro put on a sublime displayed | :01:34. | :01:36.
to retain their individual dressage title. That is the third gold for | :01:37. | :01:41.
Charlotte Dujardin and she becomes the first British woman to | :01:42. | :01:43.
successfully defend an individual Olympic title. | :01:44. | :01:51.
There was a brilliant bronze for Sophie Hitchon, the first ever | :01:52. | :01:55.
Olympic medal in the hammer for a British woman. She broke her own | :01:56. | :02:02.
record with a throw of 74.54 metres and was jumping for joy afterwards. | :02:03. | :02:09.
British badminton doubles pair Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge | :02:10. | :02:13.
reached the semifinals of the men's doubles. They upset the Japanese | :02:14. | :02:17.
world number eight today. A medal is now in their grasp. | :02:18. | :02:25.
So, in the velodrome here, I am delighted to say I am joined by | :02:26. | :02:30.
double Olympic champion Joanna Rowsell-Shand who was part of the | :02:31. | :02:37.
team pursuit who defended their title. You had already done the team | :02:38. | :02:44.
title. And Sir Chris Hoy, winner of six Olympic gold medal is himself. | :02:45. | :02:49.
So, Laura Trott first of all, your team-mate, Joe. She is in brilliant | :02:50. | :02:58.
form. She was second in the Omnium scratch race but another rider | :02:59. | :03:02.
gained a lap so you could say she won. She led out the sprint and no | :03:03. | :03:07.
one could get close to her at the end of that scratch race. That is a | :03:08. | :03:14.
good indicator of form to come. You'll always feel a bit rough after | :03:15. | :03:17.
three and team pursuits and world record rides but she had an easy day | :03:18. | :03:21.
to recover from that. A bit of a lion when the rest of us were | :03:22. | :03:33.
enjoying ourselves. A great first event for her. -- a bit of a lie in. | :03:34. | :03:36.
Mark Cavendish has one event left tonight. The main one, the points | :03:37. | :03:42.
race. He is in a great position. He is confident on the bike. I think he | :03:43. | :03:48.
can do it. I am positive about it. We will keep our fingers crossed and | :03:49. | :03:54.
give him a big cheer. The only thing missing for him is an Olympic medal. | :03:55. | :03:58.
He has done so well on the Tour de France. This matters for him. He | :03:59. | :04:03.
does not have to do this. It shows how much he cares about the Olympic | :04:04. | :04:07.
Games. And with Bradley coming onto the track, it has given the team a | :04:08. | :04:15.
boost. I think the whole of Britain is behind him. It is such a strong | :04:16. | :04:18.
British cycling team and the women get ever stronger but Laura Trott is | :04:19. | :04:21.
leading the way because she is the first to win three gold medals. She | :04:22. | :04:27.
could be on for a fourth hair. She sprang to prominence during London | :04:28. | :04:31.
2012. The thing I love the most is that | :04:32. | :04:37.
kind of adrenaline. When I get on my bike, it is the weirdest feeling. | :04:38. | :04:41.
The minute I'm sat there with my helmet on, that is it, I am ready. | :04:42. | :04:46.
People get scared by the Beatles, the five, four, three, two, one | :04:47. | :04:51.
countdown. I love it because I know this is the race now. It is just me | :04:52. | :05:00.
and my bike. I never believed I would go to 2012. It was always you | :05:01. | :05:05.
will go to Rio for the experience and target Tokyo for the gold medal. | :05:06. | :05:09.
For everything happened so fast for me is incredible. I felt I was won | :05:10. | :05:13.
this amazing train and it was getting quicker and quicker and all | :05:14. | :05:18.
of a sudden I am the Olympic Games. My achievement personally blew me | :05:19. | :05:23.
away. The team pursuit was my main target. We worked so hard. We lived | :05:24. | :05:27.
each other's pockets for that year and a half I was on the team. I felt | :05:28. | :05:34.
those are my girls and we have done it and we have achieved this massive | :05:35. | :05:40.
thing. Great Britain win the Olympic title! With the scratch race, I felt | :05:41. | :05:46.
like I had messed it up. I went and found my dad and he said, it doesn't | :05:47. | :05:51.
matter, just do what I know I can do. He knew the 500 was my best | :05:52. | :05:55.
event. When I crossed the finish line and I looked up and I saw I had | :05:56. | :06:01.
won the 500 as Sarah Hammer had come forth, I did not know what to think. | :06:02. | :06:06.
I was a double Olympic champion! I was numb, I could not believe it had | :06:07. | :06:11.
happened to me. It was those two years after the Games that I found | :06:12. | :06:16.
difficult, to be honest. Just having that change, being in a golden era | :06:17. | :06:21.
of London 2012 to this, having to put in the hard work against system, | :06:22. | :06:26.
it was difficult and one that I struggled with. But after two years, | :06:27. | :06:28.
the build-up starts again and used out to have | :06:29. | :06:44.
Olympic fever again. It is a nice thing and used at to see new kit and | :06:45. | :06:47.
new team members and Duke start to get an idea of who the Olympic team | :06:48. | :06:50.
will be. Laura Trott crosses the line as world champion! It is an | :06:51. | :06:53.
Olympic year. The World Championships were incredible. I got | :06:54. | :06:56.
the gold medal in the Omnium. It felt like a massive achievement. | :06:57. | :07:00.
Because I had finished silver three years in a row, I felt it was a long | :07:01. | :07:13.
time coming. Gold for Jason Kenny! Before London no one knew about me | :07:14. | :07:19.
and Jason. We have been engaged since 2014. It is so nice as well | :07:20. | :07:24.
that he can be there. I know a lot of couples will say it is | :07:25. | :07:28.
distracting but it is not. He gets it. He knows how I am feeling and he | :07:29. | :07:34.
is such a huge support for me. Four weeks is a long time not to have him | :07:35. | :07:38.
there. It is a long time not to have my dogs have there! To not have | :07:39. | :07:48.
Jason there, I would not enjoy it. The wonderful Laura Trott. She has | :07:49. | :07:51.
such a bubbly personality. Reportedly tonight, she is a | :07:52. | :07:54.
supersonic cyclist. You will see her in the Olympic deceit. At about | :07:55. | :08:02.
9:32pm, that is the points race for the men's Omnium. That will decide | :08:03. | :08:07.
whether Mark Cavendish will win an Olympic medal and could it be gold? | :08:08. | :08:20.
I love the elimination race. That is the third event in the win in's | :08:21. | :08:27.
omnium. Let's talk about Laura Trott. She was talking about her | :08:28. | :08:31.
relationship with Jason. They are due to get married soon. Presumably | :08:32. | :08:38.
she has had no time to plan but? We train six days a week. There are a | :08:39. | :08:43.
lot of hours on the bike and the gym. All based in Manchester | :08:44. | :08:48.
together. Lots of training camps in places like Spain. I don't how she | :08:49. | :08:53.
fits it in but she is obviously very organised. I read that she started | :08:54. | :08:58.
cycling because her mum started cycling to lose weight and lost | :08:59. | :09:03.
something like five stone? I think they had gone to Disney World or | :09:04. | :09:05.
something and her mum could not go on a ride because she was overweight | :09:06. | :09:07.
and that spurred her on to lose weight. She joined a | :09:08. | :09:22.
cycling club and then the rest of the family got involved. Her sister | :09:23. | :09:25.
has been a cyclist as well. And her dad is a keen cyclist. They are all | :09:26. | :09:28.
very much a cycling family. Becky James has got sisters who cycle. Her | :09:29. | :09:35.
sister is in the Paralympic team. Cycling all around. Was your family | :09:36. | :09:39.
a cycling family? My dad liked to tinker with bikes. He reckons he | :09:40. | :09:44.
invented BMX but he did not really. He liked to have fun on jobs. With | :09:45. | :09:50.
the omnium you have to be a master of so many different skills and you | :09:51. | :09:53.
would assume that this would be Laura's favourite. I get about | :09:54. | :10:03.
favourite but it is not so easy to enjoy. I think she would enjoy the | :10:04. | :10:08.
elimination race more. In terms of what she's good at, even Laura on | :10:09. | :10:14.
bad day would be up there. She is very talented at the pursuit. The | :10:15. | :10:18.
team pursuit is different to the individual pursuit. We spend most of | :10:19. | :10:25.
our time training on the low frame bike. It can be quite alien for | :10:26. | :10:29.
people used to being an upright bikes. All of that work we put in | :10:30. | :10:36.
for deceit will pay dividends in the team pursuit. We have got a lot of | :10:37. | :10:41.
support for British fans but also from home as well. What is this you | :10:42. | :10:47.
have brought in? This is a flag made by British cycling with messages | :10:48. | :10:51.
from people at home giving our support. There are a few general | :10:52. | :10:55.
messages for the team and also some individual messages. There is one | :10:56. | :11:00.
from my old cycling club saying good luck, Jo, out in Rio. We got was | :11:01. | :11:06.
ended with this when we went to our holding camp four weeks ago. That | :11:07. | :11:09.
was a nice surprise to see the messages from back home of support. | :11:10. | :11:14.
Chris loves his social media. I saw Laura Trott put a picture on social | :11:15. | :11:20.
media with her gold medal under the pillow. I slept with mine in my bed | :11:21. | :11:27.
as well. It is the safest place to keep it. You do not want to leave it | :11:28. | :11:32.
anywhere. You want to keep hold of it, keep it safe and you gradually | :11:33. | :11:38.
relax. I have still got it. I have not left it at home yet. I will | :11:39. | :11:42.
gradually start not wearing it every day. I'm surprised you have not got | :11:43. | :11:49.
it on! Down in the pit, Jill Douglas does AIDS Burling job. She has just | :11:50. | :11:55.
caught up with Anna Meares -- she does a sterling job. | :11:56. | :12:04.
Anna, you have achieved so much on the track and you are now bowing out | :12:05. | :12:09.
at this stage, how does it feel? To be honest, I feel a bit heavy. | :12:10. | :12:15.
Sometimes in life you do not get that fairy tale ending. I'm really | :12:16. | :12:19.
proud of what I have achieved. I have been really proud for 22 years | :12:20. | :12:24.
to wear the green and gold of my country, race hard and race | :12:25. | :12:29.
aggressive, and pose a strong figure for women and girls to look up to. | :12:30. | :12:37.
It is really tough. But as heavy as I feel, I still feel very proud. I | :12:38. | :12:42.
knew the Sprint would be difficult. I did not think I would be that far | :12:43. | :12:48.
out of the competition. My best chance was in the clearing. It is a | :12:49. | :12:53.
big question and no decision to be made quickly, will we see you on the | :12:54. | :12:57.
track again? You have a Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in a couple | :12:58. | :13:02.
of years' time, and I know the whole of Australia and the Commonwealth | :13:03. | :13:07.
would love to see you in action. Thank you. Maybe that is the ferry | :13:08. | :13:10.
tale, going out in my home state where it all started. I promised I | :13:11. | :13:16.
would give myself some time, race, be proud of my efforts, hold my head | :13:17. | :13:21.
high and then think about it afterwards. I want to go and think | :13:22. | :13:28.
about my family. I will make a statement in that regard. Thank you | :13:29. | :13:33.
very much indeed. Anna Meares who has been such a huge | :13:34. | :13:39.
figure in cycling. She was a big rival of Victoria Pendleton. When | :13:40. | :13:45.
you started in cycling, was she is someone you looked up to? At the | :13:46. | :13:49.
time of the Athens games I watched people like Chris and she was the | :13:50. | :13:54.
Olympic champion so she was always a figure in the world of cycling back | :13:55. | :13:59.
when I started. It is amazing how long her career has been and she is | :14:00. | :14:05.
still racing. It shows how high the standard is in winning's sprinting | :14:06. | :14:11.
is that a rider of her calibre has come tenth. It is great for Team GB | :14:12. | :14:20.
because two our riders are up there. Varies Anna Meares now with Victoria | :14:21. | :14:25.
Pendleton. Maybe when all is said and done, when the rivalry is over, | :14:26. | :14:29.
you can actually be friends. I remember Martina Navratilova said | :14:30. | :14:33.
about Chris Evatt, they were so competitive while playing that they | :14:34. | :14:36.
could never be friends, but when they stopped they were the best of | :14:37. | :14:38.
friends. You understand that you've gone | :14:39. | :14:49.
through the same thing and you almost measure yourself against that | :14:50. | :14:53.
person, it means that much to you. Good to see them talking their and | :14:54. | :15:00.
not fighting! Indeed! As are as Becky James and Katy Marchant are | :15:01. | :15:03.
concerned, how do you think they are? Do you think we could see them | :15:04. | :15:10.
head to head for the gold medal in the spring? Certainly potentially. | :15:11. | :15:16.
Becky broke the Olympic record and Magda -- Katy went close. They both | :15:17. | :15:29.
got to their next round in their back home resting the village. Do | :15:30. | :15:34.
you get broader at the village? Not once the racing starts. Literally | :15:35. | :15:42.
every second, every minute counts. They will be glad they have the | :15:43. | :15:46.
whole afternoon to recover and get themselves ready for tomorrow. Then | :15:47. | :15:52.
you've got five or six days on the trot and event of the event, any | :15:53. | :15:57.
time at all is golden. We will be joining the individual pursuit | :15:58. | :15:59.
shortly. Laura Trott is actually last to go. We will show you some | :16:00. | :16:01.
more of an ears. Both of them in tears. You would | :16:02. | :16:10.
think the lure of a home, wealth games would be too strong not to go | :16:11. | :16:14.
on from that and finish on the Gold Coast? I think for her that would be | :16:15. | :16:22.
a big motivator but she has to have the decide how big a motivator it | :16:23. | :16:26.
is? Motivation is one thing that the other is your body, will it keep | :16:27. | :16:33.
going, punishing itself day in day out? You're always pushing yourself | :16:34. | :16:36.
and being careful of what you eat, trying hard not to get ill. The | :16:37. | :16:40.
whole lifestyle can be very enjoyable but also very punishing on | :16:41. | :16:44.
your body. One thing is motivation and the other is how much you can | :16:45. | :16:49.
keep physically doing it. I was thinking about this with Andy Murray | :16:50. | :16:56.
in the tennis last night, as that -- are there ice parts available for | :16:57. | :17:04.
the athletes? The site listed a lot of research into it and one of our | :17:05. | :17:08.
sports scientists in our support team did his Ph.D. On it and when | :17:09. | :17:14.
there is high impact and there could be swelling it is a beneficial | :17:15. | :17:24.
thing, but the swelling is an important part of adaptation and | :17:25. | :17:27.
recovery, so sometimes you don't want to stop that. Oh! Andy Murray | :17:28. | :17:36.
loves the ice bath. We will shortly be showing you live cycling, and | :17:37. | :17:42.
there is beach volleyball live on BBC Four. Also online right now, | :17:43. | :17:50.
table tennis, the men's team semifinal, Japan against Germany. | :17:51. | :17:55.
Fantastic stuff. There's a trick shot you need to look up online as | :17:56. | :17:58.
well from the table tennis, it's really good! Also online, diving, | :17:59. | :18:08.
the men's 3 million -- three-metre preliminaries, featuring Jack Law | :18:09. | :18:12.
and Woodward going for Great Britain. -- Jack Laugher. It's been | :18:13. | :18:25.
a very romantic Olympics. A proposal at the Rugby sevens and also a | :18:26. | :18:32.
proposal in the diving. She won gold and her boyfriend of six years, she | :18:33. | :18:48.
said she can remember much of his speech budgie like the bit where he | :18:49. | :18:51.
said he was willing to be bullied by her for life! | :18:52. | :18:55.
So I don't know, do you know how Jason Kenney proposed to Laura? | :18:56. | :19:04.
Christmas Eve, wasn't it? It was around Christmas. Watching | :19:05. | :19:11.
EastEnders! It was cheery, was it? I think she was saying, what have you | :19:12. | :19:16.
got me for Christmas and work it out and he gave it her and said you can | :19:17. | :19:23.
have it now! Brearley! He's very funny in his interviews, very | :19:24. | :19:29.
deadpan. -- really! What news from down there? Talking about ice baths, | :19:30. | :19:36.
we could do with some ice bath down here in the mixed zone, very hot, | :19:37. | :19:41.
and very emotional. I was just welling up watching that proposal, | :19:42. | :19:53.
but the tears and emotions from Anna Meares, bowing out after such a | :19:54. | :20:00.
career. We've been watching Mark Cavendish, he came out after that | :20:01. | :20:06.
flying lap looking really relaxed. His wife and kids are up in the | :20:07. | :20:09.
stand above me watching on and willing him on to get that Olympic | :20:10. | :20:14.
medal. He is chased it for such a long time, it would be a very | :20:15. | :20:16.
special medal whatever colour it might be. Would it be fair to say | :20:17. | :20:20.
that he could be leading this omnium if he hadn't got punished by the | :20:21. | :20:23.
judges forgoing an illegal under taking lamination race? Potentially, | :20:24. | :20:30.
but what ifs in this competition Debra Lee count. He was punished, | :20:31. | :20:36.
yes, but it was exactly the right decision and it didn't actually | :20:37. | :20:39.
affect the result of the race. You couldn't argue with the decision. | :20:40. | :20:47.
It's guys like Lasse Hansen who will look at that elimination race and | :20:48. | :20:52.
think what could have been. Tenet of New Zealand didn't really try in | :20:53. | :20:57.
that race either. He is shown in both the time the events how strong | :20:58. | :21:03.
he is. What Cavendish did was limit his losses there. You've seen Laura | :21:04. | :21:09.
Trott, sitting there with her headphones on, she looks very | :21:10. | :21:14.
relaxed, how do you think she will do? Last ago in this individual | :21:15. | :21:18.
pursuit. She will be completely unfazed. She's super strong and | :21:19. | :21:21.
looked really great earlier in the day. I think she will come out and | :21:22. | :21:25.
lay down her time and do what she has to do, no problem. Don't worry, | :21:26. | :21:30.
we've got this one, got it covered, Claire. You can see her looking up | :21:31. | :21:34.
at the screen and taking a check on what is what and the answer is that | :21:35. | :21:37.
for tears of riders have gone and she is in the ninth pair to go. | :21:38. | :21:43.
We're enjoying the live action, seeing what sorts of times they are | :21:44. | :21:48.
setting. We will see Kirsten Wild of the Netherlands is up against, how | :21:49. | :22:05.
do I say that? Daria Pikulik! You know what? The good news is that | :22:06. | :22:10.
Simon Brotherton is the one who has to say it! We will head over to him | :22:11. | :22:12.
and pick up this individual pursuit. COMMENTATOR: The rider from Poland | :22:13. | :22:28.
will be on the track shortly! This is Diao Xiao Juan, still coming up | :22:29. | :22:32.
to the line having been caught by the other rider on the track, but | :22:33. | :22:42.
the new quickest time, four of the nine heats have taken place. Kirsten | :22:43. | :22:47.
Wild of the Netherlands will be next onto the track, with Daria Pikulik | :22:48. | :22:58.
from Poland. Marlies Mejias started well and managed to hold onto that | :22:59. | :23:01.
good start. It was a tough ride from her. Kirsten Wild coming up next. | :23:02. | :23:07.
She was fourth in the World Championships, so we could seek a | :23:08. | :23:11.
fastest time again. It's going to keep tumbling this week, as we go | :23:12. | :23:17.
through this seeded condition. We've got a very experienced rider here | :23:18. | :23:21.
against a very young but were missing rider, Kirsten Wild. More on | :23:22. | :23:31.
her in just a moment. There is Pikulik from Poland. World | :23:32. | :23:36.
silver-medallist in the junior omnium last year and she won the | :23:37. | :23:42.
points race as well. All smiles getting onto the bike and you have | :23:43. | :23:46.
to be 18 or over to compete in the Olympic Games, so she just turned of | :23:47. | :23:53.
age in time. You just saw a shot of Kirsten Wild from the Netherlands, | :23:54. | :23:56.
33 years of age, down on the left-hand side. We saw her in ride | :23:57. | :24:04.
London in the Classique, she won that in the sprint for the line on | :24:05. | :24:10.
the Mall Angie also victory that tore the Yorkshire one-day race in | :24:11. | :24:14.
the UK earlier in the year. She has previously been a champion on the | :24:15. | :24:23.
track. 3000 metres the distance in this women's on the individual | :24:24. | :24:24.
pursuit, that is 12 laps. Both off to a decent start. On | :24:25. | :24:40.
paper,... There is some unknown with the young Polish rider. Certainly | :24:41. | :24:48.
got off to a good start. They are not competing against each other, | :24:49. | :24:52.
they are setting a time, and that is how they will be ranked. You would | :24:53. | :24:56.
think that Pikulik would probably do a decent time here because she rode | :24:57. | :25:00.
for Poland in the team pursuit at the Olympic Games earlier this week | :25:01. | :25:04.
and she'll say won the silver medal in the European Championship this | :25:05. | :25:08.
year at under 23 level. She's clearly a talent in this individual | :25:09. | :25:16.
event. There is Kirsten Wild. A bit like Ellis, she has a very powerful | :25:17. | :25:23.
frame and she take some stopping once she gets going. Diao Xiao | :25:24. | :25:31.
pick a leg can't really lean on her Albers and brace herself, it's quite | :25:32. | :25:39.
an ungainly style. She's gone for a more stubby helmet. There are all | :25:40. | :25:48.
sorts of regulations governing how high you can go and how long you can | :25:49. | :25:52.
go and where your hands are in relation to the front of the wheel. | :25:53. | :26:00.
The shorter riders have an advantage because of the measurements | :26:01. | :26:06.
regardless of your height. A very aero position. She is stopped still | :26:07. | :26:13.
on the bike. There is Kirsten Wild, cutting through the air down the | :26:14. | :26:20.
back straight. Pikulik by the way has set the fastest time so far up | :26:21. | :26:26.
to this stage of proceedings. And now just gone down to the second | :26:27. | :26:29.
quickest time. Five laps to go for these two riders. You could expect | :26:30. | :26:35.
Kirsten Wild to be the better pace of these two riders. That experience | :26:36. | :26:40.
does come into play here. You have to learn about your own abilities | :26:41. | :26:46.
and how to measure them carefully. She's a bit like Viviani in the | :26:47. | :26:58.
men's omnium. She has kept her career going on the track. With | :26:59. | :27:07.
three laps to go. She is well into the lead now, for what it's worth. | :27:08. | :27:12.
These two riders strive to set their time and this top position is quite | :27:13. | :27:17.
remarkable, if you actually consider she can't see where she's going with | :27:18. | :27:23.
her head down, she can only see the black line passing underneath her. | :27:24. | :27:27.
It must take a lot of training to ride like that. Kirsten Wild | :27:28. | :27:31.
gritting her teeth. A difficult stage of the race here. Really | :27:32. | :27:36.
hurting, legs screaming, lungs bursting. Pikulik losing ground all | :27:37. | :27:44.
the time but of course they are not strictly racing against each other | :27:45. | :27:47.
here, she could still posed a good time compared to many of the others | :27:48. | :27:50.
in the field, but look at the difference between the two of them. | :27:51. | :27:54.
The power and pace on the experience of Kirsten Wild. A new fastest time | :27:55. | :27:59.
and she is the leader. Here comes Pikulik up towards the line. 3:39.8 | :28:00. | :28:06.
80. Quick enough for fourth fastest so far. | :28:07. | :28:11.
Kirsten Wild the fastest rider we've seen so far and very impressive to | :28:12. | :28:15.
watch, with that tucked position. STUDIO | :28:16. | :28:24.
Very impressive, but it looks so painful as well. That is a serious | :28:25. | :28:30.
effort. Meanwhile, as if... As if she didn't have enough to face! That | :28:31. | :28:34.
is Laura Trott going very fast on the bike. Why do that much effort | :28:35. | :28:40.
before what you've got to come? So, you want to be fully activated in | :28:41. | :28:43.
your warm up ready for the race, so that the pursuit -- as the pursuit | :28:44. | :28:48.
is a full gas effort. It's not a sprint from the start, it's a bit | :28:49. | :28:51.
different to the team sprint but for us you need to be fully warmed up. | :28:52. | :28:57.
We will try and spend some time on the power output they want to do for | :28:58. | :29:00.
the perceived in the race, and because it's from a standing start | :29:01. | :29:03.
you have to go from zero to top speed as efficiently as you can. | :29:04. | :29:09.
Some power sprints on the rollers to get the legs activated and ready to | :29:10. | :29:13.
go right from the start. How important is position on the bike? | :29:14. | :29:20.
To get it right, to jockey position really? It's the most important | :29:21. | :29:23.
thing. All the equipment, all the money spent on the bikes and the | :29:24. | :29:27.
closing and the helmet, it's the shape of the rider's body that is | :29:28. | :29:31.
the biggest area, so if you can minimise that you get the biggest | :29:32. | :29:37.
gain. Handing you back to Simon. COMMENTATOR: Ready to go once more, | :29:38. | :29:41.
use against experience here. On the right, the French athlete, on the | :29:42. | :29:57.
left, Amalie Dideriksen. Just 20 years of age. Still finding her feet | :29:58. | :30:04.
at this elite level in the Olympic Games, but she was good enough for | :30:05. | :30:08.
tenth place in the Worlds this year. I think she is another name we will | :30:09. | :30:13.
hear much more of in the years to come. Both will be aiming to be top | :30:14. | :30:17.
ten in this particular discipline. Very handy pursuit, certainly not | :30:18. | :30:23.
their primary event but they can set some good signs. | :30:24. | :30:35.
Amalie Dideriksen the fourth fastest but with 12 laps of the track, it is | :30:36. | :30:48.
a measured effort. Dideriksen has gone out in front. It is a long time | :30:49. | :30:54.
ago the World Championship in London. I mentioned the greater | :30:55. | :31:05.
experience of Laurie Berthon, but she's still only 24 herself. She has | :31:06. | :31:14.
been towards the top of the standings in several occasions in | :31:15. | :31:19.
recent years. She was third in Manchester in a World Cup race, and | :31:20. | :31:26.
omnium event won by Laura Trott. Certainly storming now. It does not | :31:27. | :31:32.
look like there will be half a second between them on this | :31:33. | :31:38.
occasion. She is starting to feel a little bit of benefit from the | :31:39. | :31:44.
slipstream. So Dideriksen is the fastest rider so far. About a minute | :31:45. | :31:54.
and a half of racing remaining. If she has gone off too fast, there is | :31:55. | :31:58.
still plenty of time to lose everything she has gained. That is | :31:59. | :32:05.
unlikely to happen. She is experienced. She is hunting her down | :32:06. | :32:12.
now. She has four laps to go, Dideriksen. She is showing the | :32:13. | :32:18.
talent we know she has got. This has worked out very well timewise for | :32:19. | :32:23.
Amalie Dideriksen and not so good for Laurie Berthon, the world silver | :32:24. | :32:29.
medallist. And endurance rider, 45 seconds remaining. She is | :32:30. | :32:33.
effectively starting her sprint now as she goes after the Frenchwoman. | :32:34. | :32:38.
It must be such a bonus to have something to aim at in front of you. | :32:39. | :32:47.
The legs are starting to hurt. Dideriksen captures the Frenchwoman | :32:48. | :32:53.
and goes past. She covered the least distance. She has set the fastest | :32:54. | :32:58.
time with one lap to go. She has got to hang onto that speed for another | :32:59. | :33:04.
250 metres. If she does, we will have a new leader in event two in | :33:05. | :33:10.
the winning's omnium. Around the banking for the final time. Here she | :33:11. | :33:20.
comes now. Dideriksen Denmark is the fastest rider so far with six more | :33:21. | :33:24.
to go out on the track as Berthon finishes sixth quickest. | :33:25. | :33:33.
Two more pairs to go before we will see Laura Trott in this individual | :33:34. | :33:37.
pursuit but there is Mark Cavendish, knowing that he is about half an | :33:38. | :33:43.
hour away in his final race in the men's omnium and he has a definite | :33:44. | :33:47.
chance of a gold medal. He has never won an Olympic medal. He has won 30 | :33:48. | :33:53.
stages of the Tour de France and three rainbow jerseys on the track | :33:54. | :34:00.
and one on the road. He is in good form. This morning when Chris Hoy | :34:01. | :34:02.
was talking to Jill, they got gate-crashed. There are probably | :34:03. | :34:10.
five or six guys who could win this. Chris, can I have an autographed?! | :34:11. | :34:20.
Here he is. I was big in you up. He is in good form? He is. He was | :34:21. | :34:34.
full of Huber. -- he was full of humour. If you lapped the field you | :34:35. | :34:43.
gain 20 points. There are many opportunities to make up the points. | :34:44. | :34:48.
However, Viviani, this is the position he wanted to be in and have | :34:49. | :34:54.
a bit of a crush on. He could now follow Mark. He just needs to make | :34:55. | :35:03.
sure he does not lose too many points. In the women was Mac omnium, | :35:04. | :35:12.
here we go with the next power. COMMENTATOR: And it is Lauren Ellis | :35:13. | :35:18.
from New Zealand and Anette Edmundson from Australia. She won | :35:19. | :35:23.
the bronze medal four years ago in London. A very, very consistent | :35:24. | :35:32.
performer, second in 2012, third the following year and then finally the | :35:33. | :35:37.
world champion in 2015. Annette Edmondson will certainly be worth | :35:38. | :35:41.
keeping an eye on. She will be strongly fancied to win a medal here | :35:42. | :35:48.
in this Olympic omnium. And then up against her is Lauren Ellis from New | :35:49. | :35:53.
Zealand. Fourth in the team pursuit, eighth in the World Championship in | :35:54. | :36:00.
the omnium in London in the spring. The Australians desperate for a | :36:01. | :36:05.
result here. It could be Annette Edmondson who gets them something. | :36:06. | :36:11.
They will be disappointed with their performance, performing so strongly | :36:12. | :36:18.
at the World Championships. But Edmondson, that is not her problem. | :36:19. | :36:28.
I was reading a digital edition of an Australian newspaper earlier on | :36:29. | :36:32.
and the inquest has already started in the track performance, a couple | :36:33. | :36:38.
of articles saying why has our track campaign at the Olympic Games fallen | :36:39. | :36:43.
flat with Australia finishing fourth on several occasions and | :36:44. | :36:50.
underperforming and below their own expectations. Seems like a double | :36:51. | :36:55.
peaking issue. Once every four years they have two before Midsummer and | :36:56. | :37:00.
that causes a bit of a problem. Often the World Championship times | :37:01. | :37:04.
are not met. That will not be the case here. These two our fifth and | :37:05. | :37:10.
seventh fastest so far. There are only four riders to go. Edmondson | :37:11. | :37:20.
was the only one not to end up on the deck when they had a heavy crash | :37:21. | :37:25.
in training earlier in the week. That did ruin their chances of | :37:26. | :37:31.
challenging. Edmondson fourth fastest, Ellis fifth quickest. She | :37:32. | :37:38.
is a lot faster than she was in London. That is telling. She is | :37:39. | :37:50.
storming round the track here. Edmondson has three laps to go. She | :37:51. | :37:56.
had a nasty crash. She collided with a car back home. I saw a photograph | :37:57. | :38:04.
of the site of the car. It was fortunate that she could even | :38:05. | :38:10.
compete in the World Championships. Now she is back to something | :38:11. | :38:17.
approaching her best. There is nothing between them at the moment, | :38:18. | :38:20.
they are both riding well, very strongly. As they take the Bell, | :38:21. | :38:34.
just one lap to go will stop they will finish close together. Less | :38:35. | :38:40.
than half a lap to go. A bit of a sprint towards the line. Lauren | :38:41. | :38:50.
Ellis of New Zealand is showing very good form here. | :38:51. | :39:04.
As Simon says, one more pared to go before we will see Laura Trott. | :39:05. | :39:15.
Meanwhile, in the diving, it is the men's three metre preliminaries. | :39:16. | :39:19.
Jack Laugher who won Britain's first-ever diving gold in the | :39:20. | :39:24.
synchro with Chris Mears, he had been struggling, until that, his | :39:25. | :39:32.
third dive at the halfway stage. He got it absolutely spot-on. Leon | :39:33. | :39:35.
Taylor said he was worried about Jack because of the gap between | :39:36. | :39:38.
winning a gold medal and then getting back in there. He said after | :39:39. | :39:43.
they won silver in Athens he found it very difficult to refocus again | :39:44. | :39:48.
and get his rhythm back but Jack in good form. He takes a nice dip in | :39:49. | :39:56.
the Jacuzzi. The top 18 qualify. This was Freddie Woodward's dive. | :39:57. | :40:05.
Again, that was his third dive. He is currently in ninth place so both | :40:06. | :40:09.
of them looking pretty comfortable. The top 18 qualify for the | :40:10. | :40:13.
semifinals which are tomorrow and so was the final. Coverage is | :40:14. | :40:19.
continuing online. So, back to the cycling. | :40:20. | :40:24.
COMMENTATOR: Just five seconds away from this penultimate ride. Sarah | :40:25. | :40:35.
Hammer who was the principal rival she is the former world champion in | :40:36. | :40:49.
this event. Jolien D'Hoore has had considerable success in road racing. | :40:50. | :40:59.
It is Sarah Hammer who we would expect to take this. It is the | :41:00. | :41:07.
strongest event. And five-time world champion. She will be looking to | :41:08. | :41:11.
grab hold of this event and secure maximum points. We move through | :41:12. | :41:18.
these distant disciplines because she was caught on the shoulder in | :41:19. | :41:24.
the sprint in the elimination race. I don't know what you thought, | :41:25. | :41:29.
Chris, but watching earlier today in the scratch race, it looked like she | :41:30. | :41:33.
did not have the speed to sit on Laura Trott's wheel. I think she got | :41:34. | :41:38.
caught up in traffic. It looked like she was not moving forward but she | :41:39. | :41:43.
was so far out on the track, she was going six or seven metres further. | :41:44. | :41:48.
She will be OK here. 28 she did at the World Championship. She is not | :41:49. | :41:54.
the fastest so far. She is such an aggressive rider. She likes to get | :41:55. | :42:00.
into the race and hang on. It may be a different strategy. She has | :42:01. | :42:06.
already gone up a spot in the space of one lap. Sarah Hammer from the | :42:07. | :42:20.
United States. The time to beat is three .30... She is something of an | :42:21. | :42:32.
ungainly rider to watch, I think I have to say. Not a great stylist but | :42:33. | :42:37.
she gets the power out. You think she is about to start fading and she | :42:38. | :42:44.
keeps going and going. Jolien D'Hoore is going very well as well. | :42:45. | :42:53.
Let's have a look at the time check. She is continuing to impress in this | :42:54. | :42:59.
individual pursuit. They are round about 28 at the moment. Sarah Hammer | :43:00. | :43:05.
was the driving force in the American pursuit team that perhaps | :43:06. | :43:08.
did not completely help them by doing short turns but here it is all | :43:09. | :43:12.
about her and Tyrone performance. The longer the race is going on, the | :43:13. | :43:18.
faster she seems to be riding, Sarah Hammer. We expect nothing less. It | :43:19. | :43:23.
will be interesting to get the views of Joanna Rowsell-Shand as well in a | :43:24. | :43:30.
minute. D'Hoore goes down the back straight. Sarah Hammer hurtles | :43:31. | :43:34.
around the bottom of the track here. A couple of seconds to get it all | :43:35. | :43:39.
out now as she takes the Bell. She will go into the lead as expected | :43:40. | :43:44.
here but Sarah Hammer really laying it all down. Her favoured event. She | :43:45. | :43:57.
is coming up to the line now. The quickest time by quite a long way | :43:58. | :44:02.
and the second fastest time from Jolien D'Hoore from Belgium. Sarah | :44:03. | :44:07.
Hammer, we have seen the form she has got because the USA were very | :44:08. | :44:12.
impressive in the women's team pursuit, but she has shown an | :44:13. | :44:16.
heroine that she has carried that performance and Jolien D'Hoore with | :44:17. | :44:22.
a strong ride. That was a solid ride from her. She will be pleased with | :44:23. | :44:29.
that. She has not had great luck so far, but that will be a difficult | :44:30. | :44:36.
mark to beat. Sarah Hammer laying it down. Jo, what is her best time? Her | :44:37. | :44:48.
best at sea level... She has not done a full length in training. She | :44:49. | :44:55.
will know what sort of pace she wants to aim for. It is interesting, | :44:56. | :45:03.
having watched the women's been in the gymnastics where they got powder | :45:04. | :45:09.
all over them, is that chalk or talcum powder? It will be liquid | :45:10. | :45:14.
chalk. It is much better than wearing a set of gloves. You get the | :45:15. | :45:19.
grip you require but there is not the extra weight and the drag you | :45:20. | :45:23.
get from gloves. Some riders do use gloves but it is a personal | :45:24. | :45:25.
preference. And there is Laura Trott! Massive | :45:26. | :45:36.
roar from the crowd in this velodrome. Huge support for her. | :45:37. | :45:40.
Union flags around for Laura Trott. She's in the back straight. Tatsiana | :45:41. | :45:47.
Sharakova won the first event. She broke away from the pack and timed | :45:48. | :45:50.
it well and it worked out well for her, that is why she was the leader | :45:51. | :45:54.
after the first event, she's a former champion in track but I don't | :45:55. | :45:59.
think she will be a contender for the medals. Laura Trott in second | :46:00. | :46:05.
position in the women's omnium after that impressive ride in the first | :46:06. | :46:10.
event. Here she goes in her second six. She's going to have to produce | :46:11. | :46:13.
a personal best here but that is as it should be at an Olympic Games. | :46:14. | :46:18.
Very cool, calm and collected at the opening stages. Sharakova should not | :46:19. | :46:27.
be as good a pursuit rider. Sharakova's chart a -- start a slow | :46:28. | :46:34.
one. Here we come to the 500-metre mark now, let's have a look at how | :46:35. | :46:39.
Laura is getting on. Third fastest and as you can see, Sharakova is | :46:40. | :46:45.
noticeably slower. She looks well settled on the bike, time checks | :46:46. | :46:48.
showing that she is well up on schedule. That is a good thing | :46:49. | :46:53.
really. She's doing well here and eating up the ground. Sharakova is | :46:54. | :46:59.
going to be within the same straight within two laps. Laura Trott | :47:00. | :47:04.
incredibly impressive in that opening ride, she looked completely | :47:05. | :47:10.
in control in that scratch race. I don't think she's ever ridden better | :47:11. | :47:15.
or been in better form coming into a major championship. It certainly | :47:16. | :47:18.
looks that way and she is riding beautifully here so far. She is | :47:19. | :47:23.
hogging the black line at the bottom of the track. It's no mean feat to | :47:24. | :47:31.
stay stuck to it. Still a long way to go for Laura Trott. So far so | :47:32. | :47:37.
good for her. Even if she died off a bit, I think it would be the best | :47:38. | :47:40.
pursued she's ever ridden, where she has to be pleased. She's now got a | :47:41. | :47:44.
visual incentive and an aerodynamic benefits as well. This is playing | :47:45. | :47:49.
into Laura Trott's fans here, to give her the chance to really | :47:50. | :47:53.
maximise her performance in this individual pursuit. She has a rider | :47:54. | :47:58.
to chase. When the shop opens out we will see that she is not that far | :47:59. | :48:03.
behind Sharakova. She's closing in! 40 metres, 30 metres between them | :48:04. | :48:08.
and she's already getting a significant benefit, the difficulty | :48:09. | :48:11.
will be when she gets on the other side and hits the dead air. I wasn't | :48:12. | :48:18.
expecting that. Laura Trott will worry about that any moment now | :48:19. | :48:21.
because she goes past Sharakova, the former point race champion of the | :48:22. | :48:27.
world and the crowd roared their approval at Trott's performance so | :48:28. | :48:33.
far. Can she keep it all together? Her position is still very solid, | :48:34. | :48:38.
very aerodynamic. She looks extremely -- extremely strong on the | :48:39. | :48:45.
bike. She is just driving for home, just a view more seconds to go. Now | :48:46. | :48:49.
as Laura Trott comes up to the line she will have two more laps to go in | :48:50. | :48:55.
this race, two more laps for Laura Trott, and what a psychological blow | :48:56. | :48:59.
to Sarah Hammer this could be. A storming ride, not showing signs of | :49:00. | :49:03.
fading at the moment. She still looks well on top of it here. Laura | :49:04. | :49:08.
Trott takes the bell, 250 laps to go and it's still the fastest time. | :49:09. | :49:14.
Laura Trott races down the finishing straight, half a lap from the end of | :49:15. | :49:18.
this individual pursuit race, is she going to go into the lead in the | :49:19. | :49:25.
overall standings? What sort of time will see post? A sensational one! | :49:26. | :49:32.
3:25.05 for the Laura Trott and Sharakova is still coming in to | :49:33. | :49:34.
finish and she still hasn't quite crossed the line. 3:37.2 04. That | :49:35. | :49:44.
was unbelievable from Laura Trott. Sarah Hammer, the five-time champion | :49:45. | :49:47.
of the world in this discipline as a stand-alone event, could not live | :49:48. | :49:52.
with the pace that Laura Trott was able to lie down -- lay down on the | :49:53. | :49:58.
track. This is her prime event, the one that she considers a banker. | :49:59. | :50:02.
Laura Trott has beaten the former world champion, record-holder. Quite | :50:03. | :50:08.
a remarkable ride and she looked so on top of it in the latter stages, | :50:09. | :50:13.
only really started driving for home with a lap to go. Beautiful line on | :50:14. | :50:18.
the track as well. Paul Manning there, the coach, able to tell her | :50:19. | :50:24.
that all was well throughout. She will have known that. Individual | :50:25. | :50:28.
pursuit thing from the very top drawer from start to finish. -- | :50:29. | :50:33.
pursuiting. STUDIO | :50:34. | :50:39.
That was so impressive and she wasn't far outside the Olympic | :50:40. | :50:43.
record set in Athens in 2004. That was better than you expected, wasn't | :50:44. | :50:48.
it? That was phenomenal! The other riders's times have been very quick. | :50:49. | :50:54.
I knew the track was running quickly so I thought she would get a new PB | :50:55. | :51:02.
but that was almost any elliptic record. A Phenomenal one time. Laura | :51:03. | :51:10.
Trott has a 6-point lead over Sarah Hammer going into the 11 nation race | :51:11. | :51:15.
which we will bring you, because it is brilliant! -- going into the | :51:16. | :51:19.
elimination race. That was one of Sarah Hammer's strongest events and | :51:20. | :51:22.
I think she thought she had done enough there but you saw her face! | :51:23. | :51:27.
All credit to Laura, that was fantastic. I never saw that coming | :51:28. | :51:32.
in terms of that time, that will give her huge confidence in the next | :51:33. | :51:37.
round. Also it will give confidence to her team-mate, Mark Cavendish, | :51:38. | :51:41.
who has his last race of the omnium coming up, as he continues his | :51:42. | :51:46.
desperate, passionately desperate striving for an Olympic medal. He's | :51:47. | :51:48.
been telling Jill Douglas about it. People don't realise how hard it is | :51:49. | :52:04.
to go from road to track. It's like Formula 1 driving going to a rally | :52:05. | :52:07.
cross race, they're not quite the same. My form is good but it's about | :52:08. | :52:13.
transition and if I can do that quickly I know I have a chance. The | :52:14. | :52:17.
world champion, 30 stages in the tour, where does the Olympics said? | :52:18. | :52:21.
It's that one little thing that I haven't done. Within my physicality | :52:22. | :52:27.
is, I've done everything I can except win the Olympic Games, you | :52:28. | :52:31.
know? It's not going to define me, you know what I mean? As a British | :52:32. | :52:38.
athlete, it's likely to define my career but I am patriotically I am | :52:39. | :52:44.
very proud to wear the flag I was born under. As a British sports | :52:45. | :52:50.
person it's a very big thing for that. You went to Beijing and it | :52:51. | :52:53.
didn't come off for you there and you were the one to watch in the | :52:54. | :52:58.
road race in 2012. The positives I can take from both those Olympics | :52:59. | :53:03.
was that I said I wanted to be in my best condition of the year and I | :53:04. | :53:06.
think both times I was on the best condition I possibly could be, and I | :53:07. | :53:17.
was the strongest in both events. I knew that if we made every single | :53:18. | :53:24.
deck out this year, we would be on the best form possible for Rio. So, | :53:25. | :53:29.
the omnium, for first-time watchers of track cycling, it's like the | :53:30. | :53:34.
decathlon but on the track. Where do you think you are in that? I'm | :53:35. | :53:38.
confident, I've done everything I can. I've worked on the events that | :53:39. | :53:41.
I'm Ibid. Weaker at. I'm very confident in the training I've got | :53:42. | :53:47.
with my form now that I will put in a good race. You can't doubt his | :53:48. | :53:56.
passion and his commitment. He's come back early from the Tour de | :53:57. | :54:00.
France to prepare for what will be really his last shot at it. He goes | :54:01. | :54:05.
into the final points race in second place in the omnium and it's on, | :54:06. | :54:10.
isn't it? It is but we have to be clear this is a huge task ahead of | :54:11. | :54:18.
him. He has a few points cushion. I think he's going to use all his | :54:19. | :54:24.
experience and his speed. There will be a few physical moments in this as | :54:25. | :54:29.
well if it's anything like the race in London. It's very exciting, I'm | :54:30. | :54:32.
getting nervous waiting for this one, this is what we're waiting for. | :54:33. | :54:37.
Before we see the race start, let's just show you how it works. Here is | :54:38. | :54:39.
Chris Boardman. By the time they reach the sixth and | :54:40. | :54:47.
last event in the omnium, the riders are starting to get a bit tired. But | :54:48. | :54:51.
it's the most important of all because it is where the medals will | :54:52. | :54:56.
finally be decided. Rather than start as equals, each athlete goes | :54:57. | :55:00.
into the 40 kilometres race, 25 kilometres for women, with an you | :55:01. | :55:03.
later total from the previous five events. They then attempt to top up | :55:04. | :55:11.
their tally by sprinting for points every five laps. If a rider gains a | :55:12. | :55:19.
lap, they get 20 valuable points. If an athlete goes into this decisive | :55:20. | :55:24.
round with a reasonable buffer, they can choose to ride defensively, | :55:25. | :55:27.
marking their overall rivals rather than trying to win the race. On the | :55:28. | :55:32.
flip side, those well behind at this stage have nothing to lose and often | :55:33. | :55:37.
try to take them on. The overall winner unsurprisingly is the athlete | :55:38. | :55:40.
with the highest scorer at the end of this final round. | :55:41. | :55:45.
So, it's a sort of combined tens of endurance. It is sprinting, speed | :55:46. | :55:52.
but also physicality and how you hold your position in a bunched race | :55:53. | :55:57.
of 17 men. When it comes to the sprints, if you are boxed in it is | :55:58. | :56:01.
about creating space for yourself but it's about reading a raise and | :56:02. | :56:05.
spotting dangerous moves and not missing out on opportunities to pick | :56:06. | :56:11.
up points. To gain a lab here, you would straightaway be right at the | :56:12. | :56:14.
top of the leaderboard. It would not just be about sprints, it would be | :56:15. | :56:17.
about the opportunity of getting a gap. Therefore you have to be | :56:18. | :56:22.
reading what might happen and reading it tactically. Thank you so | :56:23. | :56:27.
much for your contribution, I'm really glad Laura Trott is going | :56:28. | :56:30.
well in the omnium, hopefully we'll come back to us and we catch up with | :56:31. | :56:36.
you tomorrow. Thank you. I will it you go back and cheer on Mark | :56:37. | :56:38.
Cavendish. Here we go, this could mean gold. | :56:39. | :56:44.
Simon Brotherton. COMMENTATOR: So, 160 laps of the | :56:45. | :56:49.
track. They all just roll around to make sure everyone is up and running | :56:50. | :56:52.
and when they are together in a group the gun will go and they will | :56:53. | :56:56.
start the race properly here. Mark Cavendish came to Rio not as the | :56:57. | :56:59.
favourite for the gold medal but he goes into this final race not as the | :57:00. | :57:04.
favourite, with Viviani ahead of him and looking strong. Is it possible? | :57:05. | :57:09.
Does he have the validity to win? Yes he certainly does. There is | :57:10. | :57:13.
quite a fight for the podium spots as well. One athlete on 150 points, | :57:14. | :57:26.
one on 140. Viviani... There are quite a few athletes who can take | :57:27. | :57:30.
the title here. It will come down to the last quarter of the race where | :57:31. | :57:33.
the attacks will come thick and fast. | :57:34. | :57:37.
He has started the racing very quickly! He certainly got Lasse | :57:38. | :57:47.
Hansen napping because he is just off either back at the moment, as he | :57:48. | :57:53.
goes down the back straight and Mark Cavendish lead the chase, has a look | :57:54. | :57:56.
around to see if there is some support, Prado of Mexico and | :57:57. | :58:00.
Monteiro Brazil were right on his wheel but not interested in doing a | :58:01. | :58:04.
turn at the front. It needs some canny riding now, you have to chase | :58:05. | :58:08.
to get back on terms with someone who can threaten you but if you do | :58:09. | :58:12.
that they can counterattack. A very canny bit of riding. This is a | :58:13. | :58:16.
courageous move from him, all or nothing really. Well, it might come | :58:17. | :58:23.
back to haunt him a bit. He is fully committed to this, using plenty of | :58:24. | :58:28.
energy about there. The chase is on behind him and everybody is starting | :58:29. | :58:31.
to share the pace, they've got themselves organised. He seems to be | :58:32. | :58:37.
pegged at about half a lap. It won't take much for him to make inroads, | :58:38. | :58:43.
it depends how much he is putting in right now. 154 laps remaining right | :58:44. | :58:53.
now. Boudat leads the rest of the field over the line with Lasse | :58:54. | :58:57.
Hansen, the defending Olympic champion, and Mark Cavendish also | :58:58. | :59:00.
prominent. Cavendish found himself at the front and quickly rode to the | :59:01. | :59:04.
front of the track, but Gaviria looks like claiming the points for | :59:05. | :59:17.
the first five laps. They modelled this race to see if they could find | :59:18. | :59:23.
trends and the chances of a first attack succeeding were extremely | :59:24. | :59:30.
small. Gaviria wants to put himself back in contention here. He is well | :59:31. | :59:36.
behind Lasse Hansen in the bronze medal position. If he takes these | :59:37. | :59:39.
points, which he almost certainly will now with one lap to go and | :59:40. | :59:52.
gains a lap,... So much can happen here, that is why we're saying Mark | :59:53. | :59:55.
Cavendish could win this race but any number of other can happen as | :59:56. | :00:00.
well. Over the line they come, Sprint one of the points race. It | :00:01. | :00:05.
will finish with Gaviria taking the five points, Cavendish two, Viviani | :00:06. | :00:13.
one. Cavendish was happy to sit on the wheel, he wanted to keep driving | :00:14. | :00:16.
to see if he could get a breakaway going and he has done that. He has | :00:17. | :00:21.
managed to get a bit of its Bridcutt -- split, probably not enough but | :00:22. | :00:24.
enough to bring Gaviria back into the fold. | :00:25. | :00:35.
Monteiro of Brazil on the front in the line fluorescent helmet. He has | :00:36. | :00:43.
had some great support from the crowd. The first track rider from | :00:44. | :00:49.
Brazil in the Olympic Games for 24 years. He qualified 18th in the | :00:50. | :00:53.
World Championships in London earlier this year but he has | :00:54. | :00:57.
performed considerably better so far on the Olympic Games. Perfect | :00:58. | :01:02.
incentive for a lot of attacking from riders who are out of | :01:03. | :01:09.
contention. They will not get the attention otherwise. This little | :01:10. | :01:13.
lull in the race seems quite handy for Gaviria to catch his breath | :01:14. | :01:21.
after the opening ten laps. It was an expensive few points. He had to | :01:22. | :01:27.
work harder. Some more attacks now. It the Ignacy Prado. | :01:28. | :01:43.
12-macro riders looking around on the front of the pack. Bobby Lee | :01:44. | :01:49.
from the United States leads the pack with Gaviria on his wheel. We | :01:50. | :01:58.
probably won't see the favourites chasing a move like this. They have | :01:59. | :02:04.
built up a buffer and you have to cash it in at some point. Even if | :02:05. | :02:10.
you have managed to gain a lap and points, you're still not catching | :02:11. | :02:19.
me. Prado and Artyom Zakharov on the front, Mexico and Kazakhstan. Mark | :02:20. | :02:25.
Cavendish having a look around. The Brazilian on his wheel. They have | :02:26. | :02:29.
sat up a little bit early. He will start his sprint when he gets around | :02:30. | :02:39.
into the back straight. Monteiro tries to start the sprint. Viviani | :02:40. | :02:44.
tries to go around the outside. He is forth now. Coming out over the | :02:45. | :02:49.
top of Mark Cavendish and maybe pipping him on the line. Viviani | :02:50. | :02:54.
timed that to perfection. Mark Cavendish picked up three points but | :02:55. | :03:02.
he will have lost a bit too Viviani. He was letting them play out. You | :03:03. | :03:07.
have to lose some battles to win the war. Cavendish cost some energy. | :03:08. | :03:17.
There is the confirmation, the Italian rider half a wheel ahead of | :03:18. | :03:27.
Cavendish. You can see it is all happening here. It is likely to be | :03:28. | :03:36.
all or nothing for Gaviria. Lasse Hansen has gone on the inside. He is | :03:37. | :03:47.
in the gold medal position. Kennett of New Zealand third. And just off | :03:48. | :03:52.
the podium is Lasse Hansen of Denmark. Lasse Hansen and Kennett | :03:53. | :04:01.
are very strong riders. If you let them get up the road, they will be | :04:02. | :04:10.
very difficult riders to bring back. Cavendish is comfortable. They have | :04:11. | :04:15.
soon come back together very quickly there. Chris Hoy, what have you made | :04:16. | :04:22.
of it so far from Mark Cavendish's point of view? A good start but | :04:23. | :04:29.
Viviani is looking ominous. Looking at the gap between them, it is 17 | :04:30. | :04:34.
points at the moment. Viviani doesn't have to do anything, he just | :04:35. | :04:40.
has too respond. But still, one lap gained but it could be very | :04:41. | :04:45.
different. So much can change quickly. Lasse Hansen who won in | :04:46. | :04:49.
London four years ago wants to change things his way. He started | :04:50. | :04:54.
the competition so well and then had a disastrous elimination race last | :04:55. | :04:58.
night. He was the first rider to be eliminated and basically through | :04:59. | :05:02.
that event away and we thought put himself out of medal contention. He | :05:03. | :05:07.
is just off the podium in terms of points. He is trying to put himself | :05:08. | :05:11.
back into the top three. If his timing is right, he is looking to | :05:12. | :05:18.
gain a lap. He could get some points for consolation for being out on his | :05:19. | :05:23.
own, he could do with some company. There are some splits forming behind | :05:24. | :05:27.
him. Cavendish halfway back in the main field. Lasse Hansen will | :05:28. | :05:35.
collect five points for his breakaway. Viviani may have picked | :05:36. | :05:49.
Bobby leave. -- Bobby leave. He is chipping away, Viviani. Hansen | :05:50. | :06:02.
could be threatening Viviani. This one has got to be taken seriously. | :06:03. | :06:08.
He is a strong rider, he has shown that already. Mark Cavendish on the | :06:09. | :06:21.
front of the main field. Tim Veldt from the Netherlands now takes over. | :06:22. | :06:26.
Glenn O'Shea as well. There is our leader on the track, Lasse Hansen | :06:27. | :06:30.
from Denmark who has almost got half a lap on the main field. There is | :06:31. | :06:39.
quite a response coming. Artyom Zakharov from Kazakhstan has been | :06:40. | :06:43.
quite prominent at various times in this race. Cube hockey of Japan has | :06:44. | :06:54.
formed a trio but they are not gaining ground. Half a lap advantage | :06:55. | :07:05.
for Hansen. Viviani has chosen to ride very defensively. Hansen is not | :07:06. | :07:14.
giving ground. They charge and he takes a few more metres. The thing | :07:15. | :07:25.
about Hansen is he has bought his ticket now. Just three laps to the | :07:26. | :07:31.
next sprint now for Lasse Hansen. That will be tempered for his time. | :07:32. | :07:36.
He will be beginning to close in on Mark Cavendish who is still in | :07:37. | :07:42.
second place at the moment. That could be halved. They have all swung | :07:43. | :07:50.
up the banking which is perfect for Hansen. He has spotted what they | :07:51. | :07:55.
have done. Prado dived down the banking on the inside. Cavendish is | :07:56. | :08:01.
trying to get things moving. This could make life difficult for | :08:02. | :08:10.
Hansen. He was close to gaining the extra 20 points and now suddenly he | :08:11. | :08:14.
will be grasping for air and watching them disappear in the | :08:15. | :08:19.
distance. Viviani is marking Cavendish very closely. Hansen takes | :08:20. | :08:23.
the win but who will take second place? It is Cavendish. It is Thomas | :08:24. | :08:29.
Boudat third. Five for Denmark, three for Great Britain for | :08:30. | :08:36.
Cavendish. Overall, Viviani still leads. He is 16 points ahead of Mark | :08:37. | :08:44.
Cavendish is in second place. The secondary reason for Viviani to keep | :08:45. | :08:48.
marking Cavendish is if they breakaway does go, he has got an | :08:49. | :08:54.
ally, someone else with a vested interest in bringing him back. He | :08:55. | :08:58.
does not need to finish in front of Cavendish, he just needs to make | :08:59. | :09:03.
sure they don't get separated. Lasse Hansen is still plugging away. Roger | :09:04. | :09:20.
Kluge from Germany has gone off. The Pacers eased a little bit at the | :09:21. | :09:28.
back of the main field. Roger Kluge and Thomas Boudat will be a strong | :09:29. | :09:33.
group. Cavendish is desperate to get into one of these moves. Viviani has | :09:34. | :09:39.
closed it down and Cavendish has followed him. Meanwhile, Lasse | :09:40. | :09:43.
Hansen is still chasing hard and getting closer to the back of the | :09:44. | :09:47.
main field. This is quite some effort from him with 115 laps to go. | :09:48. | :09:54.
He has to draw level with the last rider of the large group. I feel | :09:55. | :09:59.
certain he will do that now. It is costing him. Roger Kluge is on the | :10:00. | :10:09.
front. Dylan Kennett leads the main field. Tim Veldt goes through on the | :10:10. | :10:15.
inside for the Netherlands. Now he has gained a lap, Lasse Hansen. | :10:16. | :10:21.
There he is joining the biggest main grip on the track. He has pushed | :10:22. | :10:26.
Mark Cavendish down to third position. Cavendish now in the | :10:27. | :10:29.
bronze medal position with some work to do. He is ten points behind | :10:30. | :10:39.
Hansen. Gaviria chasing after Roger Kluge here. It is another sprint | :10:40. | :10:48.
lap. There will be a sprint for the minor placings. Mark Cavendish will | :10:49. | :10:53.
be involved in that and he is well placed here. Roger Kluge takes the | :10:54. | :10:59.
five points. Five and three to Germany and Colombia. Cavendish | :11:00. | :11:07.
cleaning up some points with every sprint. He has gone on the attack. | :11:08. | :11:14.
Cavendish trying to catch them out. He is looking for some support. He | :11:15. | :11:18.
has gone down. Three riders have gone down. Viviani is down and Glenn | :11:19. | :11:26.
O'Shea is down. Cavendish is at the front. Viviani who is the gold medal | :11:27. | :11:31.
rider at the moment has hit the deck there. There was a collision | :11:32. | :11:38.
involving Mark Cavendish. We will see the replays. I think it was the | :11:39. | :11:50.
rider from career. I think Cavendish will get a warning for that. He | :11:51. | :11:56.
swung down. The Korean rider did not do anything wrong, I am afraid. What | :11:57. | :12:06.
drama here in the points race. Riders still down on the ground as | :12:07. | :12:13.
the main field go past them. Roger Kluge will make the junction as they | :12:14. | :12:18.
cleared things up, and so will Gaviria. O Shea from Australia back | :12:19. | :12:25.
on his bike. Still waiting to see Viviani get up. I think Park from | :12:26. | :12:32.
Korea is still on the ground. Viviani back in the peloton. It was | :12:33. | :12:42.
a very heavy fall. A hard, heavy fall but Roger Kluge from Germany | :12:43. | :12:48.
and Fernando Gaviria from Colombia have gained a lap. Gaviria was one | :12:49. | :12:53.
point behind Cavendish. Cavendish now being put under pressure from | :12:54. | :12:59.
Hansen who is ten points ahead of him in silver now has Gaviria ahead | :13:00. | :13:05.
of him. It is almost as if that fantastic racing we have watched has | :13:06. | :13:13.
been a starter for this one event. What an event, the medal places | :13:14. | :13:17.
changing all the time. The next sprint is to laps away with Mark | :13:18. | :13:22.
Cavendish in the Navy skin suit with the White helmet. Thomas Boudat is | :13:23. | :13:30.
right on his wheel. Dylan Kennett moving around the outside. Cavendish | :13:31. | :13:35.
could really do with scooping up the points in this sprint, sprint six of | :13:36. | :13:43.
16. He is on the Kiwi's shoulder now. He collects three points. | :13:44. | :13:51.
Cavendish consistently scoring here. Viviani deciding to give some points | :13:52. | :13:57.
away and stay fresh. The last 15 laps of this race is where he will | :13:58. | :14:01.
really be put under pressure. He is keeping fresh as they can for that | :14:02. | :14:07.
last quarter. And Chris Hoy, a race which is ebbing and flowing all the | :14:08. | :14:11.
time, and real drama with Mark Cavendish involved, even though he | :14:12. | :14:18.
was not the rider that ended up on the floor. It was not Mark's faults. | :14:19. | :14:30.
You could see him apologising to Viviani. Here is the crash once | :14:31. | :14:41.
again. Mark Cavendish swung down the track. Park Sang-hoon slid into | :14:42. | :14:45.
Glenn O'Shea, who clattered into Viviani. They were all on the floor. | :14:46. | :14:51.
Park Sang-hoon I am afraid is still on the deck. The race has been | :14:52. | :14:56.
neutralised. The yellow flag has come out. We look at that crash | :14:57. | :15:02.
again. It was not intentional but it was Mark's faults, I am afraid. He | :15:03. | :15:08.
may get a warning for that. I have no idea what injuries have befallen | :15:09. | :15:14.
the rider from Korea, but often it is collarbone or shoulder in crashes | :15:15. | :15:24.
like this. It was not on the ward, it was on the harder floor. Viviani | :15:25. | :15:31.
is OK, if a little frustrated. Mark Cavendish has clearly apologised for | :15:32. | :15:35.
what happened. But Park Sang-hoon, you can see he is still being | :15:36. | :15:41.
treated. He is on the stretch now. Let's hope that is merely | :15:42. | :15:44.
precautionary rather than anything else. | :15:45. | :15:52.
Everybody's getting a bit of a breather now. Handy for Viviani, at | :15:53. | :16:00.
least. Very different nature to the race with 99 laps till remaining. | :16:01. | :16:06.
The race being held at neutral eyes that the moment. It won't be | :16:07. | :16:11.
neutralised for much longer, because Park has been lifted up off the | :16:12. | :16:16.
ground, he's an stretcher, and they will be carrying him away from the | :16:17. | :16:21.
arena shortly. There is Fernando Gaviria. A reminder of the overall | :16:22. | :16:29.
standings, Viviani is the overall leader on 186, Hansen of Denmark | :16:30. | :16:33.
second and then Mark Cavendish in third place. Hansen on 182. | :16:34. | :16:40.
Cavendish on 175. But Gaviria very much a threat and other riders too. | :16:41. | :16:47.
If other riders can gain a lap, suddenly they come into the | :16:48. | :16:50.
reckoning for those 20 bonus points. The applause is for the rider from | :16:51. | :16:55.
Korea, who as you can see is in some severe discomfort, due to the | :16:56. | :17:00.
injuries received in that crash. He is leaving the field on a stretcher | :17:01. | :17:04.
and we wish him well and we hope that it's not as serious as it | :17:05. | :17:11.
perhaps appears. It looked like Suter Switzerland had had a slight | :17:12. | :17:16.
mechanical as well, you took the opportunity to get that sorted out | :17:17. | :17:21.
while the race was neutralised. The neutralised flag is coming in now, | :17:22. | :17:24.
the race will restart the next time around. Officials looking at the | :17:25. | :17:28.
track to see if there are any nicks on the track, dense or divots taken | :17:29. | :17:39.
out of the wood. There was one that was the size of a piece of paper, | :17:40. | :17:46.
they filled it up but no such this time around. This has changed the | :17:47. | :17:50.
complexion of it a bit here, not just because we've lost a rider but | :17:51. | :17:54.
other riders who put in big efforts have had chances to recover, I'm | :17:55. | :17:58.
thinking of riders like Hansen, who put in the big effort to gain a lap | :17:59. | :18:02.
and also Viviani who has the chance to recover from the crash and also | :18:03. | :18:06.
Gaviria, who has been active. It changes the shape of it, they have | :18:07. | :18:11.
almost reset as everybody has had a breather. A real bonus for those who | :18:12. | :18:16.
have been out on the attack. What does Mark Cavendish need to do, just | :18:17. | :18:20.
keep chipping away at the points? I think he would love to be on the | :18:21. | :18:25.
move, you can see him trying to make that happen all the time. Difficult | :18:26. | :18:28.
because of his position in the race. He needs a really hard race for the | :18:29. | :18:34.
fractures to appear and the favourites feeling so much pressure | :18:35. | :18:36.
that they can't do anything about it. Not ideal for him to move | :18:37. | :18:45.
forwards, but to hold his position. Cavendish on the attack. Trying to | :18:46. | :18:52.
instigate a move. Prado looks pretty keen. Five laps to go to the next | :18:53. | :19:00.
sprint and Cavendish very much alert and now he's going to go for it and | :19:01. | :19:05.
try and open it up and perhaps hope that someone can go with him, and | :19:06. | :19:10.
Roger Kluge, the German rider, does. Cavendish looks up and we'll be | :19:11. | :19:13.
happy to see it is Roger Kluge but he hasn't managed to go with him and | :19:14. | :19:17.
Roger Kluge is sitting up, Cavendish is as well and he is clean -- | :19:18. | :19:22.
clearly keen to animate the race here and try and make it happen. | :19:23. | :19:27.
He's staring the pot to see what he can instigate, he knows that someone | :19:28. | :19:31.
has to launch the first one and won't succeed but he can be the one | :19:32. | :19:36.
to get it going. Gaviria for company and Roger Kluge as well but closed | :19:37. | :19:39.
down very quickly. There were two very good riders with him, Kluge and | :19:40. | :19:51.
Boudat. I think Dylan Kennett has a mechanical, he has pulled off the | :19:52. | :19:54.
track and stopped momentarily, he will be allowed to do that as long | :19:55. | :19:57.
as he read turns to the race, I think he may have a puncture. There | :19:58. | :20:02.
is Rod Elling worth, the coach from Great Britain, as the lap for the | :20:03. | :20:08.
next sprint comes up with the French rider at the front at the moment. | :20:09. | :20:15.
Gaviria in third. Cavendish boxed a little bit here, on the inside, may | :20:16. | :20:19.
be able to collect a point in this rent. Viviani third, fourth and | :20:20. | :20:29.
collecting one point is Cavendish. He was also just trying to score | :20:30. | :20:32.
himself some points, he is the superior sprinter in this group, | :20:33. | :20:36.
Cavendish, but just not able to get away and that is what has been | :20:37. | :20:42.
shaping this race, these lap gains. Hansen second on 182. Gaviria of | :20:43. | :20:49.
Columbia fourth just two points behind him. Still anybody's race. It | :20:50. | :20:56.
is after the sprints when you're most likely to see a breakaway as | :20:57. | :21:02.
people try to recover. A small group of four riders. Prado of Mexico, the | :21:03. | :21:15.
Japanese athlete and the Kazakhstan athlete. None of these riders | :21:16. | :21:19.
overall contenders. Cavendish keen to claw back the advantage held by | :21:20. | :21:25.
those four ahead of him. It's breaking up but not enough at all | :21:26. | :21:29.
and the gaps are just opening and closing. He's trying to create an | :21:30. | :21:35.
aggressive race, isn't he? I think he needs to leave one of the sprints | :21:36. | :21:43.
and sacrifice some points in order to get himself and opportunity for | :21:44. | :21:47.
an attack. Monteiro at the front and when the crowd realise it I'm sure | :21:48. | :21:51.
they will start to make a noise, they usually do when they realise he | :21:52. | :21:56.
is on the track. The Dutchman has not been able to perform at his | :21:57. | :21:59.
absolute best in this, this and so find neither has Glenn O'Shea, the | :22:00. | :22:03.
Australian at the front at the moment, certainly not by his own | :22:04. | :22:07.
high standards. Cavendish is on the podium at the moment but his lead is | :22:08. | :22:11.
just two points over Gaviria, said we have two not just see how he can | :22:12. | :22:16.
make some inroads on Hansen but keep looking over his shoulder and | :22:17. | :22:21.
Gaviria is a very wily rider. Gaviria looks pretty keen to animate | :22:22. | :22:26.
given half a chance and Boudat is another rider who looks to attack | :22:27. | :22:30.
given the opportunity. A lap and a half from the next sprint. There is | :22:31. | :22:37.
the overall situation. Cavendish on the podium at the moment in the | :22:38. | :22:42.
bronze medal position, but only just, as Prado makes a move. Two | :22:43. | :22:48.
laps to go until the next sprint, he's hoping to get that. Hansen has | :22:49. | :22:52.
decided he needs to get more points on the board to consolidate his | :22:53. | :22:56.
position and he's chasing him down. Cavendish could do with trying to | :22:57. | :23:00.
close that down because he won't want Hansen getting any further | :23:01. | :23:05.
ahead. Prado will take the points. Monteiro of Brazil's second. Here | :23:06. | :23:12.
they come towards the line and Hansen takes five, Cavendish three, | :23:13. | :23:19.
Bavaria two, and Kuboki of Japan takes one. He thinks about attacking | :23:20. | :23:25.
and keeping that going. That is what he has built up the leaves fall, so | :23:26. | :23:28.
he doesn't have too participate in every sprint. Just every now and | :23:29. | :23:33.
again he gets a couple more. This is the danger point for attacks. So, as | :23:34. | :23:39.
we have 78 laps to go, Chris Hoy, Mark Cavendish is still very much in | :23:40. | :23:43.
the mix here but it is anyone's race. It is indeed. I wonder if he's | :23:44. | :23:49.
just waiting for that moment when it's been really tough for a few | :23:50. | :23:53.
laps and there is potentially an opportunity to launch a massive | :23:54. | :23:56.
attack and try and gain a lap. He certainly isn't doing superbly on | :23:57. | :24:04.
the sprint. He didn't quite have the horsepower. Perhaps he's trying to | :24:05. | :24:09.
keep his powder dry a bit for later on. One big blistering effort for | :24:10. | :24:15.
him? You never know. You never know but you're absolutely right, this is | :24:16. | :24:20.
anybody's race at this stage. 76 laps to go, at the front is number | :24:21. | :24:29.
12, from Hong Kong, Leung Chun Wing, opened up a bit of an advantage but | :24:30. | :24:33.
it doesn't look decisive. They are already starting to those in on him | :24:34. | :24:38.
and Zakharov of Kazakhstan leads that chase with Hansen of Denmark. | :24:39. | :24:43.
Viviani, Hansen, Cavendish, Gaviria, they could all potentially win this | :24:44. | :24:48.
race and certainly the race for the podium is amongst those four. | :24:49. | :24:52.
Gaviria has worked do, a 22 point deficit at the moment. White and now | :24:53. | :24:56.
Mark Cavendish is at the front of the race, thinks about an attack, | :24:57. | :25:00.
looks around and sees who's with income he wants some good company | :25:01. | :25:05.
here. Roger Kluge looks like he might join him, he looks committed | :25:06. | :25:09.
to doing so and Zakharov, who we've seen trying to animate the race | :25:10. | :25:13.
already, does as well but the two of them move up the track back with | :25:14. | :25:17.
Cavendish now and the leading group are all back together. Bobby Lea of | :25:18. | :25:21.
the United States just off the back of the main field at the moment. | :25:22. | :25:24.
Tightly bunched on the track and tightly bunched in terms of the | :25:25. | :25:27.
medal positions and those challenging for them. I'm just | :25:28. | :25:30.
wondering whether pursuing points is the right strategy for Cavendish at | :25:31. | :25:35.
this point. It's certainly good if he wants to bolster his bronze medal | :25:36. | :25:38.
position but if he wants to have a shot at gold, it needs to be an | :25:39. | :25:41.
attack and he can't be the one that makes it, people will follow him, he | :25:42. | :25:47.
needs to be the one that follows. It could be something just like this! | :25:48. | :25:52.
Zakharov is trying to get on their wheel and Cavendish is on the wheel | :25:53. | :25:56.
of the Kazakis rider right now, on the sprint laps. Cavendish now | :25:57. | :26:00.
gaining ground on the two in front of him, will he be able to trot past | :26:01. | :26:06.
Viviani? Up towards the line and he throws his bike at the line there, | :26:07. | :26:10.
Cavendish. That was more like it and he's and truly in this race, | :26:11. | :26:14.
battling hard for the medals and the world champion, Gaviria, and Viviani | :26:15. | :26:19.
suddenly found they had exalted company and Cavendish takes all five | :26:20. | :26:22.
points on the line and he is only three points behind Hansen for the | :26:23. | :26:27.
silver medal now. Hansen couldn't do anything about that, I was wondering | :26:28. | :26:31.
if he was going to counterattack that Viviani very wisely took it | :26:32. | :26:34.
straight back down to the bottom of the track so nobody could fly by | :26:35. | :26:38.
underneath him and sure enough, Hansen is also trying to get a | :26:39. | :26:41.
breakaway. He's not faring well enough in these sprints and he | :26:42. | :26:44.
really feels under threat here from Mark Cavendish. 68 laps still to go, | :26:45. | :26:50.
Ignacio Prado from Mexico tries once again, with Dylan Kennett on his | :26:51. | :26:57.
wheel, with Roger Kluge in third place and Monteiro in fourth. Mark | :26:58. | :27:00.
Cavendish still very much in the mix for the medals here and he's in the | :27:01. | :27:03.
bronze medal position at the moment with excision of eight points. He's | :27:04. | :27:07.
really been closing that gap and he's not too far away now, only | :27:08. | :27:12.
seven points behind Viviani. If he keeps sprinting like he is he has | :27:13. | :27:15.
still got another six sprint ahead of him and the strategy he is | :27:16. | :27:19.
employing right now could well do the job and take him the gold medal, | :27:20. | :27:22.
providing nobody seriously gets away. He has to mark anything | :27:23. | :27:27.
potentially dangerous from getting away. Dylan Kennett was eighth, no, | :27:28. | :27:33.
he has got eight points so far, Dylan Kennett of New Zealand, on the | :27:34. | :27:40.
attack with Prado. 65 laps to go in this points race, the final race of | :27:41. | :27:46.
the men's omni. Can Mark Cavendish finally get an Olympic medal to go | :27:47. | :27:48.
with all the other wonderful achievements in his career? Those 30 | :27:49. | :27:54.
Tour de France stage victories, that one day in the yellow jersey, the | :27:55. | :27:58.
World Championship Road race victory, the three rainbow jerseys. | :27:59. | :28:03.
As an Olympic champion on the track, an Olympic medal he is after and | :28:04. | :28:07.
still in with a good chance of getting one. He's currently in the | :28:08. | :28:11.
bronze medal addition, not out of the running for the gold possibly | :28:12. | :28:14.
but so much can happen in the closing laps of this race and we are | :28:15. | :28:18.
three laps away from the next sprint and Cavendish in the middle of the | :28:19. | :28:19.
field. So, now at the front is Suter from | :28:20. | :28:30.
Switzerland with Cavendish peeling up. There were two riders clear of | :28:31. | :28:35.
the pack so there could only be two points on offer for him next time | :28:36. | :28:41.
over the line. Everyone of these last six sprints has to be treated | :28:42. | :28:45.
like a finish because every one is going to count. I think Mark | :28:46. | :28:48.
Cavendish could well take the gold medal here. | :28:49. | :28:51.
BELL STUDIO | :28:52. | :29:01.
Well, if you want to see the... If you want to see the conclusion of | :29:02. | :29:02. |
